DriveTime Automotive Group fraudulent business practices

Like many of you, I have been victimized by DriveTime. Their fraud, deception, and abuse must be stopped! There are hundreds of complaints regarding the company posted in various locations on the internet. Certainly, there are countless other victims who remain silent. I am presently in the process of gathering information to present to the Federal Trade Commission regarding their illegal business practices. If have a complaint or need instructions on how to stop their harassment, you may email me: [protected]@yahoo.com

purchased a 2002 buick century from drivetime in chesapeake va in july 2009. my credit was bad and the previous car i owned died i didn"t have a whole lot of money so i tried drivetime. the cars are appointed to you as to what you can get financed for. the car was alright but the price left me stuck. the finanving was approved at 25% interest i needed a car so i took the deal regret it now the car was sold to me at 10, 000$ one week later i saw the same car for 5000 the total cost with financing was 18, 000 dollars will never be able to sell the car because it is now only worth less than 3500$. never again will i be stupid and put myself in debt to drivetime they should be stopped because the interest rate should be illegal.i have two years to pay on it i hope i win the lottery so i can say goodbye to drivetime. i will then hire people to picket their business.

DriveTime Automotive Group unfair business practices

I purchased a vehicle from this company in February 2010 after a very messy divorce. Basically, I fell on hard times as what often happens to women after divorce. I was dignosed with Breast Cancer and have incurred substantial medical bills. I work on a government contract and with the new fiscal year the contract came up for renewal. Several individuals where laid off, others (like myself) who were fortunate enough to have been hired back were hired back at part time rates with 2001 wages. I called DriveTime and explained all of this to them. They told me to borrow the money. I didn't try to hide or not take their calls. I asked if they could put the payments to end of my loan, and I was basically told that "management" would not approve the action because my loan was too new, but if I made one more payment they could assist me ( I struggled and made the payment) and called back for the assistance that I was told would be granted; to only be told that their was nothing they could do. They have harrased me to NO END ... called my family, job, and my ex-husband who I have a restraining order against (now he is harrasing me again because someone at this company gave them my private information).

It would be a safe bet to say they are not donating to the Susan G. Komen foundation!

They need to be sued for unsavory business practices. Even the banks got a bail out!

My complaint is basically confirming everything everyone else is going thru with Drivetime, the over pricing on their vehicles not knowing how much interest you are paying until you get your paper work in the mail, the inconsistent lies from the loan manager, you will discuss a situation with them(Eric) especially then when next month comes they have no recollection of the conversation, I am like "ok if you guys are recording the conversation then just play back the tape", for some odd reason they can not, my main dilemma with Drivetime is the no late tolerance, I guess they are the only ones not going thru the recession.
I bought a 2002 liberty jeep from them its going on 4yrs. I have been paying on this jeep. I have never really had any problems, because I was paying on time or satisfactory to the company, I have 1 more year and a couple of months to be done, and I tell you I have never been so disappointed in a car dealership performance before in my whole entire life they are pathetic, and the majority of the employee's there are all caught up in that cult, I feel sorry for them, treating old people, and people who barely making it like we are the villians, that is why the commerical says people who thought they had less than perfect credit go to the go to guys, hell if they could pay every pay every month on time for 5yrs. they should just wait to go to a real dealership, cause Drivetime is just a mom and pa shop...
Please include me on the lawsuit well my car payment is 2 days late they(Eric) already talking bout repossession, even though I sent payment out on the 3rd they will get it on the 4th...(ONLY 2 DAYS LATE)

I am going to seek an Attorney who can help us defeat this nonesense. ClassAction it is. DriveTime Automotive Group warranty repair

I bought a car from DriveTime near the end of June, 2010. In August, I had to take it to a repair shop to have a wheel bearing replaced. This, luckily, was covered under warranty. Two months later, in October, I had to take it in AGAIN! The rotor on the wheel that had the bearing replaced was warped by the previous repair, but since it is a "maintenance" item, it is not covered, even though it cannot warp itself. Additionally, my car has started stalling, making it a hazard to drive. They say this is also a "maintenance" problem, so it is also not covered. The warranty office told the repair shop these are maintenance items because I have put 11, 000 miles on the car in three months. I thought the warranty was 3yr / 36, 000 miles, not 3yr / 36, 000 miles unless you drive a lot. I now have a car that I've owned right at four months that has a $1, 400 repair estimate, all of which I must cover myself. This so-called "Warranty" is apparently good for nothing.

I bought a car from them in December and in February had to have the water pump replaced. I called the number on the card for 4 1/2 hours. Got nothing but busy signals. Finally made the decision to have the water pump fixed and now they are refusing to pay for it because I did not go to an "authorized repair shop". They had the nerve to say I should have called them to have it towed to a mechanic they choose. I told them that if someone had answered the phone I would have! I see how their "warranty" works, call first and we may or may not answer your call.

That is extremely unfortunate that your car buying experience was so bad. However, the worst thing about your situation is probably your grammar. Your car came with a free 30 day warranty like all cars they sale including the car I bought from them 4 months ago. Granted I had my car check out by 2 different mechanics before buying it. I bought a good car despite the car was in an accident twice. I had a minor issue with a leak after 10 days of owing it. It was repair in day, for free, and was not even cover in the warranty. Drivetime gave you option of extending the warranty while not increasing what you pay upfront to get the extra warranty. All used cars are machines that may need to be repaired. Get the warranty they try so hard to sale you and enjoy the high payment you earned because you agreed to finance a loan with have no credit, previous repos, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and or bad credit. Make the best buying decision you can live with your errors and your high ### APR (interest) and don't blame others for not paying your bills. The car business never claims to be the most honest industry, but they are not out to bluntly do wrong by their customers either. They let you know what you are buying. People need to be smart research and actually read contracts. I know people who have good and bad experiences from DriveTime, but one thing that is certain the more intelligent you are the more you will like or at least respect this company

there is no lemon law in the nc, which i think is bad. the only thing that you might have to do, is take them to small claims court, if its under 5, 000. and take them to court if its more. they should give you your money back, or at least give it to you towards another car. i got a car from them in va. it wasnt the car that i wanted be it was ok.

DriveTime Automotive Group stay away

Everybody please take heed to what I am about to say about dt corp. first of all it's a lose lose situation and it's not meant for you to win I was young and had no credit and dt corp will get you in a car but with a high interest rate and high mileage, and when they tell you to never be late you better not be late my warranty was over and my car gave me some problems and i couldn't use it any more so i told dt corp i was not gone make a payment to them until i can get my car fix they offered to put five of my payments at the end of the loan without telling me that it was gone be drawing even more interest so my loan was up in January 2010 but those payments they put at the end of my loan extended my payoff to April 30Th 2010, when that day came i thought i was done but oh no i had to pay the 2059.00 more from the interest i was upset because i thought I had paid every thing on the car, OK so now i don't have the money and they were only giving me 90 days to pay the whole amount or my car was going to be charged off and it was still occurring interest, it was a lose lose situation but i fooled them baby i got up the money and paid they *** off and them ### didn't even congratulate me but i was cool and now it's over and next time i purchase a car from anywhere I'm gone do my research, best thing you can do is stay away from DT corp.

i feel just because you have bad credit doesnt mean your a bad person, circumstances can lead to bad credit, in my case i did it all. i didnt pay my bills and my credit is bad. You still dont take advantage of people because, if youre going to mark up the car, give a decent interest rate, if youre going to have a high rate dont mark up car that much. drivetime is bad about both, i knew my rate was going to be high and the car was over priced, but its the price you pay for decisions you made in past. i will tell you this, if you can by a DT car any other car lot in the nation should finance you just on a signature...lol!

Sounds more like a learning experience. Any loan that you skip payments on will extend the length of your loan and cause added interest. This is common knowledge to people used to having loans but may be new info to you. That's why it's suggested to over pay every month and make extra payments so you can pay any loan off early (as long as there isn't a pre-payment period. Drive Time wasn't wrong unless they told you the 2050.00 had to be paid in full ASAP. It should have just extended your loan which means you'd have to continue to make bi-weekly payments. Also getting a pass on 5 payments is almost unheard of. Some companies re-po after 2 missed. They were kind of doing you a favor but one you didn't know would cost you more in the end. $2059 is kind of high though what was your interest rate?

DriveTime Automotive Group over charging for vehicles

I purchased a vehicle from Drive Time and recently found out that the 2003 Saturn Ion I purchased for $13, 665.57 was only worth about $2700.00. I was in need of a reliable vehicle and no major dealership would sell me a car. So I was told by a friend about Drive Time. So on 1-2-08 I was approved for the car. My car payments are $379.80 a month and I have had some problems making the payments. Now it is even harder for me to make the payments, because SSDI did not give us an increase for the next two years. To make a long story short how can this company be allowed to sell cars for more than what they are worth, especially 5 times more. Now I am in an upside down car payment and no one will take the car as a trade in without me coming up with $1000 or more for a down payment.

I want to know if there is a class action suit being filed against this company? If so how does a person get added to it. I would love to see some justice for those of us who were prayed upon by these monsters that call themselves a business.

This world is so corrupt that you don't know who to trust anymore. There are so many companies out there that have no morals or values. How do they sleep at night knowing they are taking advantage of hard working and disadvantaged people. The last I checked we are in a recession are we not? It is hard for everyone during these times.

I just want Drive Time to know that I for one is not going to give up on finding a solution to this problem. I will continue to pray and keep looking for a way to find a resolution. If there is anyone out there who is willing to help with this problem please let me know.

Thank you
Debra

Mr. Common Sense Dude, I don't think it is being stupid. It is more of not knowing the facts, and that in my book doesn't mean I am stupid. My father used to say if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all. That's my advice to you. I consider myself a very smart, intelligent woman, and I was desperate need of a vehicle. When noone else would consider selling me a car they did. Mr. Common Sense Dude, should be mr. arrogant dud.

Under most situations a dealer can sell a car for as much as he can get for it within the law. Also, theres something called Kelly Blue Book. Look up the next car you buy. Just using basic information for your car I came up with purchase price of $5, 465 for a 2003 Saturn Ion and a $2450 trade in allowance. Next time take your Kelly Blue Book and a friend. There are no class action lawsuits for being stupid.

DriveTime Automotive Group drive time scam

I purchased a Jeep from Drive Time. I paid all payments on time. The vehicle was stolen 7months after I purchased it. My insurance company informed me that Drive Time accepted the offer to write off the vehicle (it was totaled when found). I did not think much of it at the time. Drive Time called me to purchase another vehicle. Because I thought that it was a bad company to work with, I decided not to purchase from them again.

Now it is time for me to purchase a car and I check my credit report and Drive Time has on my credit that I failed to pay for the car and that they had to write it off as bad debt. I am trying to get this issue resolved but they will not return any of my calls. I cannot purchase a vehicle with a good rate without this information from them.

What can I do?

DriveTime Automotive Group re:class action against drivetime

We live in Phoenix Arizona. On May 20, 2006, we traded in a 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity as our sole form of "downpayment" at the DriveTime dealership at 2143 W Camelback Rd in Phoenix, towards a 2003 Kia Rio Cinco, a small station wagon. We went to DriveTime only having been turned down by all the other major dealers in and around Phoenix; we needed a car that had working A/C, and the Chevy also had a mysterious "leak" that we couldn't figure out. We had been paying for a child to be in private school 1500 miles away, and didn't have any cash to hand over as additional downpayment. As of yesterday, June 23, 2010, the lien on the title was released. We took a loan from relative to pay it off; we took a Cashier's Check for just over the current quoted balance the previous Thursday, to their corporate office, their headquarters in Mesa, AZ.
Clearly, the pieces of paper we signed back in 2006, should have told us that these people are loan sharks! The "sticker price" on our car, before we took it off the lot, was $11, 329.00. As of right now, at the original mileage of 47, 272, this vehicle is valued at $5730. At an interest rate of 29.90%, our total finance charge was calculated at $8442.45 for this loan. The last department store credit cards I had, had carried a maximum interest of approximately 14%, less than half that rate! But we needed to have a car with working A/C & less than 200, 000 miles on it, and we weren't qualified anywhere else, where the interest rate would have been more reasonable. So of course, we accepted the loan at their terms.
Just over 2 years into owning the car, when it had achieved just over the 65, 000 mile mark, the timing belt broke. This caused us to need to replace the engine entirely. Had it happened before the 60, 000 mile mark, it would've been covered by Kia's bumper-to-bumper warranty. And of course, it wasn't covered even remotely by DriveTime's "limited warranty". But when our mechanic looked at it & quoted us a price of about $1500, we called DriveTime to see if there was anything we could do through them, since they had their own repair people. We had about $600 to pay out for this repair, and our personal mechanic couldn't sit around & wait for the rest of it. DriveTime told us about their no-interest repair program, Repair Tracker. Their mechanic got the car & quoted us about $2000. We had to come up with half up front, so we emptied my husband's small 401k to pay the first $1000. My mechanic would've had the car done inside 1-2 weeks; DriveTime's "authorized repair facility" had my car for 6 weeks! And every time I called to ask for an update on my car, they either got caught in some "red tape" something with DriveTime when trying to get approval for a necessary part, or they had been busy with "paying customers' repairs"! And when I finally got my car back, DriveTime willingly took off several hundred dollars from our financing payments, due to repairs my own mechanic had to do. He basically "cleaned up" the mess left behind by DriveTime's repair facility. Among issues we paid our family mechanic for, the engine mounting bolts hadn't been tightened, and the same day we picked the car up, I drove it home, then to the family mechanic's shop. As it turned out, the fuel injectors in the new engine were shot; I went back over to the repair shop that had replaced the engine & asked if they still had the old engine & parts. They sent someone out to collect the original fuel injectors. 3 out of the 4 that were in the new engine (not brand new; rebuilt, with 30, 000 miles on it), were useless. Only 1 fuel injector out of 4 in a rebuilt engine, was working! And the mechanic who had posession of my car for 6 weeks didn't think to check if they were working! And when I asked him why my mechanic had been forced to tighten of all things, the mounting bolts, and replace 3 out of 4 fuel injectors, he said "I was only paid to put in the engine"! Apparently that doesn't include tightening down the mounting bolts or checking to make sure the thing works! And of course DriveTime was willing to pay all the repair charges associated with the work done by their "authorized repair facility"; several months later, he lost his repair contract with DriveTime. I submitted complaints on the facility to the Better Business Bureau of Central AZ, as well as submitting a [redacted] on the facility.
We will openly admit to having more than 1 or 2 late payments, but it was normally no more than a week late. Twice in 4 years, it was a month late. But even when we called them to explain the situation causing us to be late, they would call us anywhere from 1-7 times per day, until the account was made current! Recently, I paid 2 payments that had been late plus another payment that was being made over a week early. About a week to 2 weeks after I made this payment to get us ahead, we started receiving collection calls again. I went in to the local dealership to ask why, and they were calling us for about $25 in late fees! And their customer service agent when I made that $603 payment couldn't have told me about that $20 some dollars why? Nobody could tell me. When we called to find out the payoff amount (the total amount due to have the title released), I was told that only the office in Mesa could give us the title, and was told the amount. A few days later, I called to verify that when we handed over that Cashier's Check, the title or something that released the title from the lienholder, would be given to us when we delivered that check. The representative this time also told me to take the Cashier's Check to Mesa, that the home office did all the title work & they would give us what we needed. We drove close to 30 miles one way to deliver that payment, to find out that DriveTime didn't have physical posession of the title! They had to go through MVD to get the title released, then have it signed & notarized and send it off to us! Their "senior level account representatives" didn't know this? Clearly, communication between the different departments at DriveTime, and general customer service knowledge, are not priorities for DT Credit Corp! And they were wrong again, telling us we would receive "the clear title" in the mail! What we received was an MVD Lien Release, signed by the appropriate person(s) at DT Credit Corp, and notarized. We still have to take this release, accompanied by our registration, to our local MVD office and pay them $4 and THEN we'll be handed a "clear title" to this vehicle!
In short, we would love to find out if we qualify to join your efforts to put these people out of business. As a general summary, they are loan sharks with crappy customer service skills, whose collection attempts border on harassment, and they utilize substandard repair facilities that charge you through the ### for work you can get done at better quality, in less time, at reputable repair facilities, for a lot less money. They prey on those with little or no downpayment and poor credit ratings, making us feel as though we have no choice but to accept their ridiculous interest rates & exorbitant payments on horribly overpriced vehicles because nobody else will give us credit. I put these people at the same level as payday loan providers, and our family agrees that DT Credit Corp needs to be put out of business, as DT, as Ugly Duckling, as whatever other names they might hide behind!

Sincerely,
Holly K. Wooldridge & Stephen J. Wooldridge

I have had some of the same issues! My vehicle stayed in the shop the first 6mos I had it. They don't cover any expenses upfront for the consumer. Everything always has to be reimbursed, and they never cover the full amount paid out. I have now had my vehicle for 2 years and 7 mos and already more issues, but hey who's counting..I am just ready for this nightmare to be over already!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! These ###s ripped me off about 2 years ago! The location in Marietta, Ga on Cobb Pkwy. The 2006 Chrysler 300 cut off on me driving up Cobb Pkwy THE DAY I bought it. I called back - nothing they could do. I've had issues with the car ever since - the employees are complete gheto bunnies who are quick to tell you they "don't provide customer service; you got that when you bought the car, this is the loan services division" when you question their ridiculous tactics. People don't have time to talk to your stupid ### all damn day long over a payment that's 30 minutes late. They "repo'd" my car within the 1st month after I told Brandy I couldn't talk while at work - nothing personal, I'm at work. She replied "oh really, you don't have time to talk - well there seems to be a communication problem so we'll come get the car" and they damn sure did. Of course, I got my car back (I just gave ya'll $2, 000 plus a payment) - ummmmmmmm, find you somebody to play with, little mole-rat! Brandy talked crazy (punching into their hands and everything) to my mother WITHOUT even verifying that she was with me!

Come to find out they sold me a FORMER RENTAL CAR that has had the front of the engine block cut off and glued back on (with pink guage glue that is now spattered EVERYWHERE under the hood), a repaired water pump, and a bad transmission - NONE OF WHICH WAS ON THE CARFAX REPORT! They refused to even wash the damn car since they sold it to us dirty...which Jarvis promised to do. Just a ### operation...glad their catching the same hell they ditch out to their customers. How's that for customer service Drivetime!?!?!?!?

Their cars are HUGLY overpriced...look ANYWHERE else, the car'll be cheaper! Save yourself the time and money! Go somewhere else!

Sorry, Ugly Duckling...a swan you'll never be!

I cant get over the numerous complaints on this company. After reading your comment, I know now that the problems my husband and I are having with these IDIOTS, are true 100 %! After months of dealing with them, I am seeking legal advice. NO one should have to be subjected to what I and (from what I have read), others have!

This DT Credit Corp is the worst company I have ever dealt with in my entire life. They lie cheat and steal from people. I have called to make a payment and I have had to hang up because the reps are too dumb to make the payment or rude. I have been lied to and reps have said they do not recieve checks from me. My son who was in the military at the time sent money to them when I was laid off and they said we never recieved it. I have sent them certified mail and it was signed and they said we have never recieved a check or money order. This is the worst company the cars are garbage and they cheat from the beginning. I want an attorney who get rid of this company to do something about all this.

Yes DriveTime is horrible! The personal references you give them, they call and harrass them as if they own them money. They call your personal references 3-4 a time a day every day if they can not get a hold of you. They will start harrassing you if your car payment is 1 day late. I can't wait to trade this vehicle in and I wil NEVER do business with DriveTime again and I told everyone I know not to do business with them.

DriveTime Automotive Group broken car

I need it a bigger car for my growing family and I stopped the first dealer I saw, Drive Time. They sold me a Dodge Caravan 2005 nice looking from the outside. A month and a week into the account my car started to give me problems with the gasket. Took the car to the repair shop and to my surprise I had to pay 50.00 just for them to look at the car. They make the call to the warranty department and the claim got denied. I called and argued with them and the agreed to pay. Then I started to have problems with an oil leak again take the car to the repair shop and got denied, this time they say they would no cover the damage. Now I have an oil leak, a light sensor on and my car gets over heated as soon as I'm 5 minutes on the road. I went to see the manager and he said there is nothing he can't do about it, called customer service and they can't do anything about it. The warranty department won't pay for my repairs either. The sad part of this story is that I only had this car for 3 months!. Drive time is a nightmare.

Purchased a 2008 Saturn. Needed front end alignment, I was told to do it under warranty. Took the car in 1 week after purchase and found out all 4 wheels were bent. Repairs denied. They are telling me that we hit something. Now we are 2 weeks into the contract and the car is dead. Told to have it towed to a shop 13 miles away and that they would only cover $75 remember only had car 2 weeks. Was told that it would have to be diagnosed to determine if it will be covered under the warranty. Told that since it was under 30 days that they TRY to take care of customer. Was told by lot that we could bring car back and they would cancel the contract but that we would not be able to get another car because the warranty department probably would not ok another sell. Since when does a warranty department have the say as to who can and who can not buy a car? My son is in the military and he has to have a car to get to his next duty station and after today when the warranty department comes back and says that nothing is covered we will have to much money invested in this piece of ### car to give it back. DONT BUY A CAR AT DRIVETIME BECAUSE AFTER YOU LEAVE THE LOT IS NOTHING BUT A RUN AROUND AND THEIR WARRANTY IS NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT IS WRITTEN ON!

DriveTime Automotive Group bait and switch

I applied for a loan on their website. 5 minutes after applying I received a phone call stating that I was approved for a loan on a car. I had told the person who called the I only had $500 down payment. I was asurred that was enough and that they could put me in a car. 2 Days later I paid $20 to take a taxi to get the the showroom. While there I decided to do the financing before looking for a car. I had all the paperwork with me that was required. While there I was introduced to the credit manager and he said $500 should be plenty. Well he did the numbers crunch and guess what? Now they wanted $900 down payment before I could even look at a car. I came up with $860 for the down payment, taking every penny I had on me at the time. I asked if we could find a car, and give me 20 minutes to go and get the other $40.00. I was told no! Well I left the lot, again having to call a Taxi. I went to another car lot and bought a car. After I got home the credit manager had the nerve to call me and asked if I was still interested in one of their cars. When I told him that I was upset over the $40.00 difference he said that it was the computer that told him he could not accept anything less then $900. I told him that I only needed a car (to get to the bank) and I would have had the other $40.00. He said he could not let a car off the lot for less then $900. Again he blamed the computer. I told him that I wanted nothing to do with him or Drive Time. He actually told me that if there was anything they could do in the future to help me with a car to call. You have got to be kidding. I would never do business with them again and encourage people to stay far away from them. I read the other reviews on the internet but still thought I would give them a chance. Boy was I wrong. If they would not budge on $40.00 for 20 minutes, I don't think they would understand any other circumstances that could cause a person to be 20 minutes late in a payment. Don't do business with them. I personally went to a "mom and pop" dealer who was more then willing to help me out and with only a $500 down payment. Oh by the way, the car I got was only 12% interest and Drive Time wanted approximately 33% interest.

After reading all of the complaints I am so glad drivetime did what they did to me. I went to drivetime in conyers georgia, and the sales guy was so rude to me. When I called and did my information over the phone the sales guy said I would need a 400 dollar down payment, so I was so happy about that. I go up there the guy that I had spoken with on the phone I did not get a chance to meet with because this other sales guy was so pushy that he forced me over to his office. Once this guy saw my income he literally got up from his chair and left while I was still sitting there. He wanted me to put down 2000.00 plus have a monthly payment of 423 dollars. He suggested that I get a co borrower. I was thinking this is just like a real dealer ship, there is no difference. I am so glad that I read the complaints. Thank you to everyone who posted you really helped me out, because I thought about going back. Everyone sometimes have a situation that causes you to be late, and you don't need knowone down your back every second of the day. Again thank you so much!

DriveTime Automotive Group repairs on car

I bought a 2006 Chevy Colbalt from Drive Time Feb. 1, 2010 and had a week and had to take it to one of their repair shops in Haltom City only to have them tell me that they could not fix it. So I had make an appointment with their main shop on Blue Mound Rd to have it fixed there. About a month later the clutch goes out and I take it to the same repair shop in Haltom City only to have them tell me it is gonna cost over $1400 to have the clutch fixed and Drive Time was not gonna cover it. So I took it somewhere else to have it fixed for less then what they were gonna charge me. Only to have something else go wronge with the car.

I have called the Warranty Department and have called the manager of the Dealership that I brought it from. All I want is for them to make it right. Which they have not done. So now I am at the point were they can have the PIECE OF CRAP that sold me back. This place needs to be exposed for what they really are SCAMMERS!

I BOUGHT A CAR JANUARY OF 2009 AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS FROM TWO WEEKS OWNERSHIP. AT TWO WEEKS OWNED BY ME THE CAR NEEDED ROTORS, AND THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER MY WARRENTY WAS DONE AT 6 MONTHS AND I REPLACED THE EGR VALVE, MASS AIR FLOW PUMP, MY A/C MOTOR INSIDE THE CAR SOUNDS LIKE AN AIRPLANE TAKING OFF, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ARE A PART OF MY LIFE WITH THIS CAR (ALWAYS ON NO MATTER WHAT) NOW THEIR TELLING ME I HAVE A VACCUM LEAK AND IT IS EXPENSIVE TO FIND.
WHEN I CALLED DRIVE TIME TO TELL THEM THAT THE CAR I NEEDED TO BE DEPENDABLE ISN'T AND I NEED MY FAMILY TO BE SAFE AT ALL TIMES, THEY TOLD ME TO CALL THE WARRENTY DEPT., SO I DID WELL THEY DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH ISSUES AT ALL BUT IF YOU GIVE THEM THE PAID REPAIR ORDERS THEY WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF THE BILL BUT DIFFER YOUR PAYMENTS TO THE END OF YOUR LOAN. SO TECHNICALLY THEY THINK THEY ARE HELPING YOU BUT YOU ARE STILL PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS AND YOU CAR PAYMENT TOO JUST AT A LATER DATE. WHEN YOU PAY $16, 000 FOR CHRYSLER PACIFICA 2004 YOU EXPECT IT TO RUN EXCELLENT FOR ALONG TIME. THE ISSUE WITH THE ROTORS, MY CAR WAS DRIVING ROUGH AND WHEN I TOLD THEM ABOUT IT THEIR SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM WAS RAIN PUDDLES AND THEIR MECHANICS AS WELL, WELL OKAY BUT CONSIDERING I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR WHEN FLORIDA WAS IN A DROUGHT AND IT HADN'T RAINED IN SEVERAL WEEKS AND NOT WHILE I HAD OWNED THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS, IT SEEMED A BIT IMMPOSSIBLE... SO ANYWAYS THE SO CALLED MECHANICS THAT THEY SENT ME TOO REPLACED THE ROTORS WHICH I DON'T BELIEVE THEY REPLACED THEM I THINK THEY MAY HAVE RESURFACED THEM. I REALLY WANT TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT PROBLEMS I AM HAVING AND REALLY STICK IT TO THEM. I ONLY WENT THERE CALLED CAR DEALERS MAKE IT SO HARD TO BUY CARS NOW DAYS AND MY VAN'S WHOLE GAS SYSTEM WENT AND I NEEDED TRANSPORTATION FOR MY KIDS TO SCHOOL ETC. SO HERE I AM 15 MONTHS OWNERSHIP WITH THIS EXPENSIVE PIECE OF CRAP AND I AM ALWAYS IN THE SHOP WITH IT (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AGAIN), GOING TO SHOP TUESDAY FOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (LOOKING FOR A VACCUM LEAK)... i HAVE EVEN ASKED DRIVE TIME FOR THE NEW PURCHASE WARRENTY ON CARS 36 MONTH WARRENTY INSTEAD OF 6 MONTHS AND IT COVERS WHAT WRONG WITH MY HUNK OF EXPENSIVE JUNK. BUT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T CAUSE IT'S ONLY FOR NEW CUSTOMER PURCHASE. THEN I ASKED THEM TO SWAP IT FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE A NEWER ONE WITH MAYBE LESS PROBLEMS AND THEY SAID I HAVE TO WAIT TILL I OWE ABOUT $3500.00 ON THIS CAR BEFORE I CAN TRADE IT IN WITH THEM. WOW THEY HAVE A ANSWER AND A SOLUTION FOR EVERYTHING. SINCE I HAVE PUCHASED THINS CAR PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME STORIES ABOUT UGLY DUCKLING CAR SALES AND DRIVETIME CAR SALES...
AND THEY THINK I GOT STUCK WITH A LEMON... AND I DID! I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON 441 OR PINE STREET IN OCALA FLORIDA ACROSS FROM AAMOCO THEIR MECHANICS WHO ARE JUST AS CROOKED AS THEY ARE.

DriveTime Automotive Group predatory lending

This company drives on predatory lending..that get you in with everyone is approved but they sell cars that are not worth what they are selling them for and they have interest rates that are out of this world. The constant harrassment for one day late payment is crazy. All of their cars have problems from suspension to transmission. When you take the car in you have to pay $50 for them to check it out only for them to tell you nothing is wrong with it. They need to be stopped! I own a 2005 Ford 500 and it's only worth $5, 000 but I owe them $20, 000. Is this not predatory lending!

You can only blame yourselves. You didn't research the car you were buying, you agree'd to the price, if you didn't like it why did you buy it. If you are going to drive time chances are your credit is junk. They know this, you know this. They know if you want a car, they are prob one of the few chances you will have to get a car that is not 35 yrs old. Don't like it, don't buy it. I keep laughing at people that pay 3 times the cars value, then complain about it like they had a gun to their head.

Wise up, its your fault and no one elses

Tony Judd!

I read your complaint and others about DriveTime being a scam. I'm so disappointed, I need a car really bad, and I am ready to go look at what they have here in Charlotte, NC. I will confront them, and see what they say.
I met someone else who purchased a car through them, here in Charlotte, she seemed happy.

Disappointed,

I agree with the first comment. I bought a 2004 Chrysler Sebring which is only worth about $4, 000. Drive Time sold it for $13, 000 and let us not forget the $7, 000 interest I was charged at almost 22%, which comes to a total of $20, 000 for a car that I can't even get $1500 for in a trade in! Yes, they helped me get into a car, but I am paying out the bazooka for it! My advice is to try to stay on top of your credit so other companies won't get to do this to you again!

DriveTime Automotive Group faulty information

Complaint starts with the company stating that they do an inspection of every vehicle that comes through their lot.
I purchased a $17, 000.00 GMC Envoy through Drivetime on 1/30/10. It all seamed to be in working order at that time. 1 day later I had to drive the vehicle at night. It was then that I noticed I could not see half of the buttons on the radio and some of the buttons on the AC/Heater control due to the illumination was missing.
I then contacted DriveTime Monday morning concerning this. They told me to bring it in and we could discuss it and see what we needed to do. I was then directed to call the warrenty department and see what I could do. They told me I needed to take it to a mechanic that was on their list. I then had to set up an appointment for that. I then went their and the mechanic informed me that the whole units would have to be replaced. They could not be repaired. He also said that each unit was approxamately $500.00.
I called and let the manager Mike know of these findings and explained that it was wrong to do this to a customer and just get over by selling a vehicle that wasnt even working right and then try and charge me $1, 000.00 to fix the problem. I then offered to be satisfied if DriveTime just fix the Air conditioning illumination and I would take care of the radio and meet them half way just to make it right.
I was then told I needed to take it to another part of drivetime that does their work on their cars for review. Note that this place is nowhere near where I live. I made an appointment and took it to them. I was there while he looked at it and then they informed me that they couldnt do anything about it and that it would have to be replaced.
I then talked to the manager Mike again to inform him that was a waste of my time to take it there. He then informed me that he was still going to try and see what he could do to make it right and get it worked out. Since then I have left 3 messages by phone to call me and I still have not recieved one phone call back.

Hey, what's your credit like? I guarantee that it's nothing short of terrible. I'm bringing this up because it needs to be addressed. If you had paid the people you borrowed from in the past, you would not have to do business with DriveTime.

When you have good credit, you make sure the vehicle being purchased is perfect. Maybe you'll be able to finance a vehicle with a new car dealer one day. Well, that won't happen. I bet you won't pay your GMC off.

Are you still driving it? I'm interested.

I am so with you on this! It is a shame that when your credit is not just perfect, you have to go and get a car (due to unforeseen circumstances), and you pay the HUGE deposit AND a trade in and still making bi weekly payments, NOT monthly and it just places you in a desperate situation! You have no car, you have a great job, and you need a dependable car! Those were my circumstances! However, I did not realize how much I was paying until I get the paper work home...(which they do not go over with you before you sign!), and I was just FLOORED! I thought, how in the hell am I going to afford this! I did make my payments, on time and then I became sick and was out of work for about 6 mths drawing short term disability and their customer service did not even care! " Can you borrow it from a family or friend?" NOT! So...after the 2nd past due on the car payment, I received a letter of repo! I called them up and told them to come and get it! It took them TWO months to pick it up! Tacking more payments and interest. Finally when it was done, I received a WONDERFUL BS letter telling me that they sold the car at an auction and received $2800.00 for it! Leaving me on my credit a balance of $6688.00! Please be fair warned! They are not out to help you with nothing! Hell I wish I would have never walked in to that place of business!

DriveTime Automotive Group scam

I was a first time car buyer and had been turned down at a biger dealer. Me and my mom desided we would try drivetime they advertised that they approved just about anyone and they do just so they can screw as meany people as possible. I purchased what i thought was the cutist car on the lot a 05 Suzuki Forenza, they presented me with a car fax stating there was nothing wrong with the car. That was the first lie! The car had been in a rearend accident and the bupper had been replaced, and the engine and trani were just about shoot. Only about a month after having the vehical my check engine light came on and has been on pretty much constently. I made my payment a day early everyother week as scedualed even threw the car BARLY running. We were carrying jugs of water in the trunk if we attemted to go more then a couple miles the engine would get so hot it would nearly blow. When i called Drive Time to ask what they were going to do about my car that i was never late on payments on and could not drive, and was told it was not there problem just make sure my payments contiue to come in. My husband and I drove from our house in Arkansas to his moms house in Oklahoma and were on our way back when the engine would no longer hold ANY fluid we towed the junker back to Arkasas and started searching for a place to get it repaired and then towed it all the way to Memphis Tennessee, closest suzuki dealership, had the problem repaired or should i say meany problems. I had to pay more for the repairs then i did my payment there for i was unable to make a payment and i called drive time and told them my situation and they were very heartless they acted as tho i was lieing to them. After presenting them with the bill they defered only two payments. We contiuned fighting the car problems and ended up getting behind. These people are rude and very pushy they make acusations. This company calls sevent and eight times a day. You tell one agent you are will make a payment on x day and maybe an hour later another agent is calling about the same thing. They never comunicate with each other. Never do buisness with this company they are nothing but deseat. They pray on the unfortanate knowing they can get away with it because people like me have no where else to go being young.

Listen when you buy a used car you are buying it as is . That means that's it's the buyers responsibility to have the car checked out . And to research the car your buying. Ps Suzuki is one of the worst cars every made doesn't matter what model or year there good bikes horrible cars any way. I'm a ASE Master Certified Auto Tech and you can check a car out and it can be completely fine with no signs of trouble and then with no warning bam you have a problem. You must understand that there are hundreds and in some cases thousands of parts and computers that are no different than a light bulb you hit the switch it works it works and then it don't with out warning, this is why there are warranty available. It's my professional opinion that you should never buy a car without a warranty and if it doesn't come with one buy one but again do you research cause there are rip off company's with warranty. I know your upset you had a bad experience but with that said the dealership is not in the wrong. You need to make your payments

DriveTime Automotive Group lack of customer care/assistance

I have been dealing with DriveTime since 8/06 and until this past Oct. 09, things were fine. Due to Tucson City Court "auditing" their records June 08 and finding supposedly "outstanding" tickets for 1994/95/98, I had my vehicle impounded by Police and DT Corp retrieved it and took my vehicle to Phx for storage. I told Corporate that I wouldn't be able to get my suspended license back til Jan 2010. They said they want to "help" me but it has been a pain in the #*s for last 4 months. The non-communication between coporate and dealership in Tucson is appalling, not to mention fustrating. Corporate kept insisting on me "Just find a friend to be put on your loan w/valid license", all my family is back east or NW and to ask a friend to be put on your car note is just rude. Out of pocket and in full $458 had to be promptly paid in Nov 09 (they deferred truck note for single month) and resume note in Dec. This month I spent entire S.S. check reinstating license, paying fines and truck note meanwhile doing ALL the footwork for corporate and dealership. I asked dealer if they could bring truck back to Tucson since I got impounded there, they stated..."Thats not our responsibility"-WTF!?! How the heck am I supposed to go get my truck in Phx if you have the vehicle? again, Just find a friend to take you is all they were willing to say or do. Recently DT Corp tells me they will not go on and on with this matter and if I'm not able to pick up truck by Jan. 15th, the 16th they will put up for auction-WTF! As of this very moment I have fullfilled my end as far as jumping thru hoop after hoop and they still have not released the vehicle because of a fax that DT Corp says has not gotten-I have coversheet that says successfully delivered to them 1/14/10. The auction place holding truck is only open 9-11am today and it is 2hr drive from Tucson and can't cal Corp til 8am and dealer opens at 10am so what now? I have hustled up a ride from neighbor, got valid license and another friend on loan so I can register truck (due to hold on registration by Court). There is a whole lot more bulls*&%t I have not mentioned that DriveTime needs to be accountable for and resolve...pls contact me @ [protected]@gmail.com ASAP, yes I'd like to join lawsuit. Thanx Elena

"HORRIBLE, DECEPTIVE, LYING, MANIPULATIVE, AND UNPROFESSIONAL" all describe the types of customers that finance vehicles with DriveTime. The words of "Listen2Experience" perfectly represent the customers, not the company.

DriveTime caters to people with [censor] credit. People that rent furniture, pay bills at Wal-Mart, cash checks at the liquor store, religiously play the lottery, etc... These statements aren't race exclusive.

Grow up, pay your bills, and shop at reputable dealerships.

This is so very sad and I'm sorry you have experienced this headache. Drive Time is a HORRIBLE, DECEPTIVE, LYING, MANIPULATIVE, UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY in my opinion.

PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS COMPLAINT AND STAY AWAY FROM DRIVE TIME! They are only out for themselves and not the consumer. They will call and harass you, your family and friends constantly even if you are ONE day late. They are like finance company MAFIA!
