I was scammed
I have this crazy disease, Hereditary Angioedma. It requires "home" IV infusions of a drug every 4 days. To help in finding arm veins it's useful to have a vein finder. Esp. one called Accuvein AV500.
Recently, I found a webpage online that's sells (seemly) used medical equipment. The site is: DOTmed.com (incidentally I have photos of all of this scam)
The online ad had the unit (Accuvein AV 500) for sale for $1300. (listing #3745123) The best price from the company that makes this unit is $4500/$5000. So I registered my name, email … ([protected]@yahoo.com) … and got in touch through email the name of the fella who was the seller. He used the email address: [protected]@yahoo.com (it could also be @gmail.com)
I was led to believe he was a pediatric doctor who was closing his office & that this unit was purchased 3-6 months ago & was new. His name David Milligan.
I tried paying for this device by a credit card that did not work (this card was from a charitable group called "Patient Service Inc" & I was unaware of the conditions under which I was to use it). We used a personable credit card & he told me it did not work as well (this card was hacked as well, used & charges caught by the issuer & was cancelled & a new card issued to my wife & me by mail.
My wife & I ended up paying $1300. Plus $16 charge through Western Union at Walmart. The money was picked up by:

I found Kent Austin Killeen on facebook & messaged him. This was our conversation:
(me) Kent, this is James Old, 6632 Santo Lane, Maumee, Ohio 43537. I have yet to receive the Accuvein av500 & power supply. If it was sent by US mail is there a "tracking number" I can use.
I have been trying to contact [protected]@yahoo.com but I get no answers. I'm worry that it may have gotten lost in the mail. Can you help me out? James Old.
Mmm … no answer. Let me know about this about this transaction. If it is a "SCAM" you left a trail a mile long. Call me tomorrow at [protected]. Do not wait!

End … no more. Kent Austin Killeen does have a Facebook account. He is NOT a son of David Milligan & David Milligan is NOT on his "friend list" on his facebook page. I did find a David Milligan living in Bullhead city, AZ.

bad review process/policies
When a company gives a bad review, regarding a supposed bad business incident, you (on the other end) usually get a chance to reply. Unfortunately, with DOTmed, they allow other companies to make one sided bad claims about said businesses which is their actual competition! Everyone deserves the right to reply and, show reconciliation. You live and learn right? It is in bad taste for the Medical industry to allow such rude exposure practices and there is obvious push back on resolving business conflicts. Instead what it does is it promotes some sort of personal gain and feeds the negativity. We are a much smarter industry than that DOTmed. Please use discretion on your platform, take down old irrelevant content, filter the complaints and allow companies to respond accordingly especially to those reviews that are publicly about small businesses in the Diagnostic Imaging Industry.

Save your time and money - go to a real online marketplace.
I'm in the process of building out a Physical Therapy clinic and I found a ~$5, 000 EMG/E-STIM device on DotMed that I wanted to purchase. With 3 days left in the "auction, " I registered so I could make an offer. It was really not an auction at all, but a submit your best offer via email.
DotMed required me to go through a "Gold Dealer" named Medicka unrelated to the transaction and seller. After communicating with them my interest, I received sporadic communication from a guy named Asif at a gmail address. He told me the device was worth 3x what I know a new one costs and that I should "kindly submit my best offer."
This made me uncomfortable, so I asked for the item serial number to verify with the manufacturer. Asif never responded and the auction ended 3 days later.
At the very least, DotMed did their Seller a disservice as I would have made a lucrative bid on this item. The process felt shady and I didn't trust Asif.
I later found the same model listed by on eBay by a Medical Supplier and purchased it without any issue at all. I recommend to both Buyers and Sellers to stay away from DotMed. Any business that lacks transparency like this should be avoided.

I used dotmed for many years and find it very transparent.
I think you didn't know how to use the service correctly or misunderstood. If asif had to send your offer to a seller and you never gave him an offer then why are you complaining?
Most of the time I buy ondotmed i go to the dealer directly as I can see their information. I don't use the make an offer system.

This is the worst service I have ever dealt with in the entire United States. I was trying to buy a device from them and they cheated me (I won the auction but have never received the device). Long story short: don't trust these people, they are doing some monkey business over there.
For those of you who are interested in details, beware:
They have 2 auction types: with and without reserve price. Regardless the auction type, there is no guarantee that you receive an item even if you are the highest bidder. (If there is no reserve price, they must give away the item to the highest bidder regardless whatever the highest bid is).
In my case, the auction did not have any reserve price setting and I was the highest (= winning) bidder when it closed (start price $10 vs. my highest bid of $150)... and guess what happened then... nothing! After a few days of nothing (no e-mail notification, no shipment request, just n-o-t-h-i-n-g), they put that device for auction once again (!).
I have contacted their customer service several times over the course of the past two weeks but it did not help at all: I have never heard any excuse from their side, or any explanation on why I did not get the item, or any type of solution (they did not even remove the device from sale!)...
In the end of the "second round", that device was bought by someone else for absolutely unreasonable price (I suspect it was someone from their side just to close the auction and get rid of me, unhappy customer). Just in case, I have saved all related e-mail communications and phone calls: I am really frustrated and look forward to discussing this situation with attorney.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
These companies do not have any FDA certificates
This company is allowing Foriegn companies to list there devices on DOTMED. These companies are from China, Korea, Japa, Indonesia etc... These companies do not have any FDA certificates. The companies are not registered with the FDA. So these dangerous lasers are being sold to anyone who wants to buy them in the USA. DotMed refuses to remove them because they say anyone can sell on their site as long as they pay DOTMED for listing there medical devices. However, when you go to FDA website it says no one can sell in USA without FDA approval. So my problem is what are we doing to protect the U.S. people from such danger? If someone does not get this company to remove these listings then we telling foreign companies welcome to USA and it is okay to break the law as long as you can pay.
DotMed is a global site. There are buyers in countries outside the USA who can purchase those foreign non FDA products. Many of these manufacturers are selling items with CE marks approved for sale is Europe.
The consumer needs to check with the manufacturer to ensure any product they purchase is certified properly. America is not the only country in the world with medical equipment.
If this comment is coming from a medical professional then they should know better to read the label before buying.
Rip off in Fees and Charges
We bid on one auction item on DOTmed.com. We were the only bidders on the item and won the item for one dollar. Then DOTmed adds a $50 processing fee for a total of $51. We then have an email from a Gilpin Logistics to pay the $100 just to pkg a small pkg. Plus, we owe for the freight. So a $1 item will end up costing several hundred dollars in fees and shipping.
Plus, they charge the seller 20 percent of the auction price.
DO NOT use DOTmed.com for any of your used medical equipment.

You need to learn how to read a computer screen before entering your credit card. I have used dot med for years and find it to be very fair and effective when buying and selling medical equipment. The only time I had an issue with a credit card charge I called into dot med, they asked me to email them a description of the problem, and within a week they refunded the charge.
How much was the $1 item you bid on actually worth? Did you read the full text of the auction before entering your credit card to place a bid? I have bid on their auctions and most do not have processing fee's, however I have seen them on some smaller value auction.
Think about from their shoes too, you said they make 20% off the seller, that is accurate as I have used them both to buy and sell on auction, would you think dot med would be fair in charging a processing fee on an item that costs $1 to sell? Or should they live off a 20 cent commission? A $50 processing fee for a $1 auctions seems fair, especially if the item had a retail value in the hundreds or thousands.
I can see both sides of this story but would side with dotmed because consumers love to cry foul when many times all they needed to do was open their eyes and read whats right in front of them.
It seems the shipping company you mention is not dot med. I am unsure if your post, and following comment to your own post, should be about dot med, or about a shipper charging too much.
