Dollar General discrimination

I bought my daughter a ed hardy stylish carry bag for her sweet 16 birthday in july and every since I bought her the bag she been carrying it everywhere she go so on aug. 7th after she got off work from her job she went to dollar general store with her stepmom and as soon as she walked into the store the manager on duty noticed her bag and picked up the phone and called the cashier at the register and had the cashier to stop my daughter and tell her to put her bag/purse on the floor next to the register until she got done shopping and told my daughter that they dont like for people to walk around their store with big bags or big purses so they automatically assume that my daughter was there to steal, so 2 days later I went to the store myself to talk to the store manager about the incident and all she could say to me is 'sorry' they didn't seem concerned about issue plus it's not even a store policy for what they did to my daughter and they didn't seem to care that me and my daughter was upset customers on how she was treated and we feel that we was violated of our civil rights and discriminated against and the cashier actually followed me outside after I left and told me that they dont do all the customers like that so that really made me feel that it was some type of discrimination so im advising anyone who see this post not to shop there because you might get treated like a criminal when your clearly a honest citizen.

If some of yall cant understand where the discrimination come in at then maybe you guys dont realize when yall are being treated unfairly and the discrimination for the impaired is, JUST BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER WALKED IN THE STORE WITH A BIG BAG THEY ASSUMED THAT SHE WAS GOING TO STEAL THEIR MERCHANDISE, DUH! and she just got paid 2 days before that so she have money to spend and even if she didnt my child is not a theif, if she need anything thats what im here for i work hard for everything i got, wont, or need. AND also my daughter and her stepmom are honest people "MauiAl49" plus why risk going to jail on stealing there, when everything cost $1.00 "CLEARLY".

Very similar situation in my case: after hearing my accent, the clerk immediately asked me to put a small shoulder bag I was holding by the register. At the same time there were a few women in the store, with even bigger bags walking around. I had to call DG corporation and report it.

Don't blame the manger he or she ( I could finish reading because of the text) for asking your little girl too put the purse near the cashier, the store proably got robbed recently or had items stolen from employees, etc.

@ Gino - Yeah, most likely not... you have a point. @Zachary, I almost believe you except I have met mothers like this who are so on the "everyone is discriminating against me" band wagon that them, nor their children or family can do no wrong. Plus the praying then wishing death on people... really pushed my button there. Can I still wish to send this letter to her family, church and the ex? :)

Whoops, just read this response

"Yeah, I do pray for you. People on this site seem to have anger issues. Including these people, MauiAl49, GoldOpals Opals, jbfirebird and Trevor is now a proud father a baby boy . Trevor, I hope your baby dies from SIDS. You obviously have anger issues so if your baby boy dies of SIDS at least he does not have to worry about being shaken to ###ness. Do you beat your wife. I bet you do. Aamd with you Manial49. You all seem to have anger issues. I admit when my daughter was younger she did steal from Dollar General, but that was probably under the influence of her father, though he claimed he punished her. So because she stole before they are discriminating against her. She has learned her lesson now. I hope all of you die a horrible painful death, along with the dollar store employees. They called the cops on me when I wanted to talk about my daughter who is being discriminated against. f*** you all.t"

Well honey, NO WONDER they called her out. I don't care if she only stole once and learned her lesson. She's proven she has no qualms about it and MIGHT do it again!

I love how you say you will "pray" for everything then claim you wish death on dollar store employees along with hoping someones child dies. How Christian of you. This is why, while i believe in a god, I don't call myself anything like a Christian, I don't want to be lumped in the same group as someone like you. A lunatic.

I so wish I was more prevalent in computers, i would send your response to every dollar store, your church, your family and also to the cops. I bet they called the cops because you threatened them. Just because you are behind a keyboard doesn't mean you cannot be charged.

you need therapy.

I live in a town where shoplifting is rampant, there are some gas stations here that not only do you have to leave your bag in the corner, but also only a certain number of people are allowed in the store at a time... regardless of color, race or creed.

Most of our dollar and clothing stores have explicit signs on the door asking you to leave your bag with the cashier, regardless of size. Because of this I usually take my card and my Id and throw my bag in the trunk when I know im going out shopping. This stops me from being stopped and I can do my shopping in peace.

This is not a discrimination issue, unless you want to pull "big bags" into that category ( and if that's the case you need to be institutionalized) People need to stop pulling the race/discrimination card. It's that irrational thinking from any community that is keeping you down. You are a proud woman, be proud and be glad to be you. Didn't the African American community ask to have equal rights? Well, getting your bag checked and/or kept at the register or your receipt checked at the door is something EVERYONE puts up with. Welcome to Equal Rights.

Dollar General hostile work enviorment/mental stress

On july 10th 2011 i quit my job with dollar generl due to the mental stress i had been dealing with for about 8 months. i was with the company for nearly three years. My first promotion was within the first year, to third key. By the following january i was promoted and transfered as assistant manager to the rockmart store #4163. Around july 2010 we were sent a new manager william brazell. My issues of slander, and stress began at that point. I was moved to dallas 0877 within the first month, and back to rockmart around the first of summer due to transportation issues. All i heard while in dallas was talk of him lying to the employees, constantly keeping things going that caused alot of drama. my first day back i was told everyone dreaded hearing that i was returning to 4163. I was told by a new hire that he was told he should be scared of me that i was over demanding and that i would cause problems because i didnt like william brazell because he took over my store. A couple of the managers from other stores informed me that he was calling and starting rumors that i wasnt doing my job and that i wouldnt listen to him. Also that i was working against him to make him look bad.
None of these rumors were anywhere near true but still it frustrated me bad. I would come in to cover 2nd shift behind himthe store was never recoverd and stock, rolltainers, shelves etc. would be left on the sales floor. I spent most of my shift cleaning up after him. No time to work frieght for that reason, he was telling the District manager charlie foster that i wasnt doing my job and that i refused to do what he asked. He constantly blamed the store being behind on a former key holder christina fuller, and would tell me that she would blame the store issues on me. He continued the rumors over at the bank we used. The dm at one point came in and spoke with myself and william about everyting that he was hearing about our store from other store managers and that we must stop telling other stores about any problems within our store. we both agreed. not even a week later it started again, i was being told by cashiers that william was asking them " so what did marie do the whole shift the night before"? First off thats something he should have came to me about not cashiers. He would tell cashiers that i was trying to cost them their job, and that i was telling they wouldnt do their job. creating tension between my self and them. causing problems when i would work with them again. Constantly creating and and fueling a hostile work enviorment for everyone. I came in one day at 12:30 to relieve dustin clark because he had something to take care of. William once he showed me what i was to work on went to the front pulled dustins till and put it in the safe instead of counting it lie we are supose to do at the end of each shift by the manager who ran that shift. He didnt tell me before he left that he didnt count it down so it was a few hours later before i realized it and took it to the back to count. I noticed on my way into the stockroom that the auto timer box was lit up and making noises id never heard it make so i steped over closer to it and briefly read the screen. On to the office i went. Counted it and returned to the front to balance the till. It came up $55 and some change short. I immediatly called william brazell and informed him of the shortage.Later that night i counted the deposit it was short also. That comfirmed dustins shortage. A few days later a was aproached by the dm and told that william reported suspious activity when i took the till to the back to count and that i made the statement that day that i would be glad when dustin was gone. Not true. This really upset me. I was asked to write a statement about everything i could remember about that night. So i did, explaing why i stepped over to look at the auto timer because william sugguested that i might have taken the money trying to get dustin fired. Dustin and i were no longer allowed to work together and he was told not to talk to me at all by william brazell. Between this and all of the reports to the dm that i wasnt doing my job, i became more and more stressed out worrying about losing my job due to false accusations made by mr brazell. I talked to a coworker sheree colosky about all of this trying to figure out how to handle the situation. I tried talking to charlie and tell him none of this was true that in fact if he would work as hard as he run his mouth we wouldnt be behind. I got a call from another store manager Doris telling me that the next day william called her told her about the shortage and that i had called him as soon as i found that dustins till was short. But when reoprting it to charlie he told him that i leid that i did not call him and let him know anything. When i got off the phone with her i called charlie and asked him why i recieved a call about a matter that was under investigation from another store and what she told me he had said. The night of the shortage was i guess investigated, nothing was ever done about it. I felt i was wrongfully accused and worried my self sick about possible being fired. with everything pileing up i began to stay angry all the time and was taking my frustrations out on the people i cared about outside of work. I was dreading going to work more and more everyday. I began to let my attendance get real bad because of all of the stress. Time and time again i asked sheree to mention to charlie that i wanted to transfere because she worked with charlie alot being on the smart team, hoping he would do something about it if he heard it from her. Nothing was ever done. The tension continued to build and it became harder to deal with. somedays i feilt like i was going to have a nervous break down. I tried to hang in there until william told me he would be steping down in 2 weeks per charlie and he would be taking my position as lead assistant. This absolutly unnerved me, at that point i knew i couldnt handle anymore. I called because of a funeral on a sat i believe to be informed that i was soppose to have worked the day before and that i had a no call no show. William had changed the schedule on my day off with out informing me. Another unfare situation created by william that made me look bad for our new store manager. He didnt tell her about the funeral on saturday either so that was another no call no show. I told her that i told him he must have forgot to relay the info to her. she asked me for proof of me attending a funeral. which upset me even more never have i been asked for such nor have i heard of anyone else. Already off on the wrong foot big time with the new manager, shortly after opening i had all i could stand told the cashier i wasnt staying and putting up with all of the crap anymore and walked out. The last atleast 8 months was not something i would ever put anyone thru. I seriously thought i would have a nervous break down and seen nothing being done about it so i left.

So you were an assistant manager? Why not be a manager and be assertive rather than letting things pile up to the point of being overwhelming? It doesn’t sound like you did much managing!
Many people in management should not be there.

Dollar General rude new assistant manager

I recently went into our local Dollar General Store in Giddings, Texas and did not like the new girl that they hired as assistant manager there. She was very rude to me and very slow on checking people out. She rolled her eyes when I told her that I had something to return and said something under her breathe about dumb white people, and when I asked her to repeat herself she said she didnt say anything. But I know what I heard and I didnt appreciate it a bit. The new manager that recently took over the store was doing just fine until this girl came along, even though she was still learning the ropes. Why they gave her such a rude person to "help" her is beyond me, but she sure isnt worth it. Get rid of the bad one before you loose more customers.

I have been in the local General Dollar store in Chandler Indiana twice with three weeks between, they have the same packages of ribs that have been expired since 10/5/2013 Both times I have pointed it out and both times I was told, well check on it and second, I'm showing it to the delivery person when they come in. Really, and they apparent don't know that it's against the law to sell expired food.
I was happy for the family dollar to have some competition but now I'm Leary if the store in general.
There were also crushed cans of tomato soup on the first trip. I didn't buy any because of this. The second trip I checked on the soup and some of them had been sold but still crushed can for sale.
These managers are messing up and when someone gets sick and they get sued, they will have to close. I'm just pissed.

Tammy decide to do a no call; no show; no fault to the manager, Look in the mirror and point fingers at yourself. if you have worked for Dollar General for a length of time you should understand the policies.the manager was just doing her job.(like Tammy should have been) she would still be with the company. and not in the compliant section.

Dollar General death of pet due to food

We recently purchased the Everpet brand dogfood for our dog, who up to that point was happy and healthy. We began to feed it to our dog and within just a few days he began to get very sick. He got so sick that the following morning when we woke up we found him dead with several spots of blood, as well as him bleeding from his mouth. The vet said, without doing expensive test to be fore sure, that bleeding from the mouth is typically caused by either an organ shutdown or by poisoning, but that she would lean towards poisoning seeing how the dog was healthy. We are currently in the process of having the food tested but are also contacting the company for some results in releaving the situation. It looks like their food is poisoning ALOT of people's pets and something needs to be done about it.

Dollar General treated rudely, humiliated

On saturday, 6/26/2011 2;30 pm, I was at the register in the dollar general, galeton, pa having trouble with the credit/debit card machine yet again! This is an ongoing problem w/the card swipe equipment. As im pulling out different cards to pay for my purchase. Im so embarrassed since people are on line behind me and the line is growing. Finally a card works and im talking to the cashier about why the card I just paid with got declined the 2 previous swipes. Along w/ 2 different debit cards, all visa. As I continue to load my cart w/bags a different cashier, who was not helping other customers by opening the other register, started to tell me, loudly, that I need to do something about my cards because I always hold up the line... Bla bla bla... Everyone was looking at her as she chastised me like I do it deliberately! She was addressing others on the line like I wasn't even there! I just wanted to crawl out! Well there is always someone on line that has card problems every time im there! My cards are always paid off and are always swiped with more then enough money to pay! I even use debit and I know dam well I have the money in the bank to pay! I shop there 5 days a week and this happens at least 3 out of 5 trips! My so, husband and I just purchased the local pharmacy and I can assure all my customers that no one will ever be treated and/or humiliated like a 3rd class citizen looking for a handout at our drug store!
P. S. There is never a problem at any other stores, food stores, sears, loews... Etc... With my cards.

I think that's very rude! If it happens frequently, it sounds like a problem with the card reading machine or the employees operating them. I would speak to a supervisor or something, that's definitely not okay.

Dollar General unprofessional/poor customer svc by store manager, darryl.

On june 24, 2011, I purchased approximately $50.00 of items at the dollar general in knightdale, n. C. I was buying some various items for a belated father's day gift. I purchased an "as seen on tv" item—a nondestructive, waterproof wallet. It retailed for $10.99. Upon returning home, I realized that the packaging was taped and the item had been previously opened. Since this was a gift, I preferred a package that had not been tampered with. I returned to the store approximately 1 hour later. I approached the cashier who had checked me out and explained the situation. She then called the so-called store manager, darryl. I originally had preferred to swith the opened package for an unopened one. When the manager got to the register, I explained the situation. The manager, darryl seemed extremely bothered and accused me of opening the package. I explained the situation and he still did not believe me so I then requested a full refund for the product. Darryl, store manager, said in an extremely sarcastic tone "so "you" didn't open the package, in a very accusatory tone. He said that several times, an I continued to explain that it was like that upon returning home and opening the bag of items purchased. This made me extremely angry and I sugggested to the store manager, darryl that if he did not believe me, he should pull his security camera and watch what I took off the shelf if he was going to continue to accuse me of lying to him. This was all carried out in front of a line of approximately 5 persons. He embarrassed me and angered me severely as he was so extremely sarcastic and accusatory.

Several years ago I once had a return for a damp mop that had a metal handle. After using the item for approximately 20 minutes, it bent in half exposing a very jagged metal edge. I almost sliced my hand severely. I had purchased that item approximately 2 hours before this happened. I returned to the dollar generaal store in knightdale, n. C. To return the defective item which only retailed for approximately $8.99. , darryl, store manager refused my return, said " I " broke it and would no accept the return. I then contacted the manager's immediate supervisor, mike moore. Mr. Moore stated that the corporation had just sent out information on returning items and darryl, store manager, he had not followed proper standard operating procedure. That has recently been reinterated by company management protocol and this information was given at that time to store manager, darryl. Mr. Moore asked me to again take the mop back to the store and the manager, darryl would "gladly" accept the item for refund. It seems that if the manager, has to do a void, or is called to help a customer, it bothers him intently. This occurs all the time. I chose at that time never to return to a dollar general store due to this first incident but did continue to shop there for some particular items due to price. The store manager, darryl, in knightdale, n. C. Severely lacks any customer service skills or store loyalty. I will contact all administration associates with dollar general and give a recount of this extremely uneccisary, rude treatment by this manager.

I have proudly been employed by the home depot corporation for 12 years as of sept. 2011. We realize that the customer is the most important, they pay our salary, and continue to recommend the home depot to others. We, at the home depot are extremely disciplined in customer service and our corporate strategy has definitely, without question, proved to be extremely successful. We know to treat customers with the utmost respect no matter the situation. I have been truly shocked by the treatment by this manager, on many occasions. If any of my fellow associates or store managers. Or assistant managers, or department supervisors, or treated our loyal customers in the fashion that this manager, darryl at knightdale nc, we (No matter which position) would be terminated immediately. I have seen the many complaints about management with the dollar general and am know amongst those who have commented on this extremely unprofessional, annoyed, distasteful manager, darryl, dollar general, knightdale n. C. Thank you for allowing me to express my discontent. I truly hope that this information reaches the appropriate dollar general management executive and addressed in an expeditious and severe manner. This cannot be allowed to continue. - karen m kalas

I too have recieved poor service from the dollar general management in Dothan Alabama attempting to return merchandise to the store. The dollar store management are the least professional people ive ever encountered in my life and their actions certainly wouldnt be tolerated in any other customer service atmosphere. I serve tables for a living so I understand completely how important it is that the customers are treated with the respect that they deserve. I wish there was a way to actually let someone in higher authority be alerted when management at one of their stores was setting a dark outlook on the dollar general name but im not even sure they would truly be concerned. Pissed off in dothan!

Dollar General horrible fathers day card shopping experience

Please help me get justice on how i was treated at the dollar general on the night before fathers day. Our family shops here quiet often as the "dollar" is mighty tight these days. I had just got done working & stopped in to grab a fathers day card, it was about 5 minutes til 9 "closing time" & apparently "they" were in a rush to get home. What has happened to the "people" of this great country of ours? I was totally caught off guard when this happened.
Http://www.Youtube.com/watch?V=cbaoand3k_w and http://www.Youtube.com/watch?V=heaknkfqpbs

My receipt says 9:04:45 or 21:04:45 military this was after it was all said and done. Couldn't they give me 5 minutes?

Please pass this on!

See what this country is coming to. Idiots that think they are right and have all the answers. You have no idea how that woman spoke to me to initiate my actions. She change that pathetic attitude as soon as I started filming. You all should just shut up when you have no idea what your talking about. I've been in management and upper management, this was total abuse by a disgruntled employee who doesn't get appreciation from her supervisors and is working there because she apparently has to and is miserable. In fact they both are in that same situation. I was nice to her until she started being verbally abusive and forceful in her actions. Google how dollar general treats their employees and you will see. Until you have a better understanding of this whole situation, stfu.

I removed the video and I'm done with this unless others keep it going.

Happy 4th to everybody!

I feel obligated to give a comment back to some. Have to express my thoughts a bit more as I'm shocked on the responses. I certainly hope there are no TROLLS here and can we be civil to each other for the most part?
This is a Discussion Board not a Bashing Board. If I have offended anyone, I apologize. Can we be adults and reason properly. That was a very bad unexpected night for me, but the more I see on how Dollar General Employees are being treated the more compassion I have for their situation.

Jim52 That's a lot to say to someone you have never met. Is that necessary? Nothing can be accomplished going that route.

wanderinghebrew REALLY? Your comments about me are one thing, what you did to insult my Wife was just wrong. Removing that would be nice, can we be nice and civil?

whats this about 15 min of fame? That's the 2nd youtube video I have posted. You have the wrong guy here. My fame is being a Christian, Father and Husband. I have a wonderful "Fan Club". Family, the ABSOLUTE BEST THING IN A PERSONS LIFE.

Bottom line... You have all cast JUDGEMENT on me by watching 2 videos and the fact I'm from TN. That's just sad... Notice it was slamming from the start, not one person wanted to get some valid info. Here is another Dollar General Post on how they treat their employees, I TRULY feel sorry for them. At least their working... Right? I mean there are no JOBS "Just Over Broke" in America right now... So... "they" can treat people however "they" wish... Right? And I must of been in the line of fire as the percipient to absorb their frustrations. Dollar General — unfair treatment of employees

We are headed toward a Dictatorship at a rapid rate, whether you want to believe it or not. Obama it set to take that position and We The People are just letting it happen. We "Most of U.S." are running in circles from 9-5 and stuck in front of a PC or TV from 5-9 day in... day out. Nobody is paying attention anymore. Most work 2 jobs putting their kids in after school care and before school care for that matter, letting the "system" program your kids. A study has recently shown that Parent - Child interaction is down to an astounding 15 to 20% of Daily time.

What happened to me the night before Fathers Day was just sad, it should of never happened. Perhaps if I were a more frequent shopper they would of treated me differently. The woman actually insisted I leave 1 minute after when I was standing at the Cards. That's just insane, so yea I was upset that she was in my face in those circumstances.. who wouldn't be? Honestly... If you all were in the same situation what would you of done? I'd like to know. I have many Friends and I'm the type to give ya th shirt off my back so to speak. I really didn't expect this kind of response. I'm going to lunch with a "Friend" this week and listen to his thoughts on this.

Can we approach this a little different, if you knew me I think your approach might be different, maybe not for a "few".

Have a good night.

Look who is being the "jerk" now. No I'm not going "overboard". Just stating the FACTS. I agree on the 5 minutes... I will tell you this, the woman's attitude changed like she was bipolar the instant I turned the camera on her. they were being a**es / B****es for no reason. I go out of my way to be nice and respectful to others especially Elders.

I take it most of you here work retail or something. Probably TROLLS keeping the opposition taken care of.

Dollar General has decent deals on some Name Brand Items and they are convenient. They do underpay their employees which 99% of the companies in America do.

Walmart has taken MILLIONS of Americans Jobs away with their mega stores and mega ships that come to the U.S. weekly FULL and leave EMPTY.

It's SAD what direction this Country is headed in. When the Dollar folds as it will soon, we will see who the TRUE PATRIOTS are in this Country and we will see who the Corporate minions are. INFRA-GUARD for example. Most of you will fit right in with that program. The Obama Citizens Police Force. "Tell On Your Neighbor".

heath, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THEIR JOB. Too much of this CRAP is going on where People are being disrespected day after day with nothing being done. I have worked Customer Service as my Wife has too. Just because your are tired and bi***Y, you have no right to talk down to a CUSTOMER as this woman did. I'm finding there are many other instances of this going on to other People in this community. Call me names all you want, so juvenile. I worked about 12 hrs that day myself on a project for a Disabled Veteran. Bottom line, People need to get back to being people. Not Corporate minions.

mrwonderer... Seems like you had a similar experience. Quit judging people.
"The employees have always been respectful to my family and myself. My beef here is with the customer service manager who spoke to me like I was a piece of garbage. She completely embarrassed me in front of other customers and I refuse to believe that this is how loyal customers are suppose to be treated. Her actions were unacceptable and I hope this can be resolved without any more drama."

Listen wanderinghebrew... looks like you are the "redneck" by your walmart complaint.

I was told by the GM that the employees were being taken care of and that they were very sorry for the episode, ensuring me that I am welcome at their store ANYTIME. Yes, I spen a lot of time with my children, doing "redneck" things like Camping, Fishing, Riding ATV's, etc. I buy our Fishing poles from a LOCAL Bait n Tackle "Being RED again" not wally-world cheap a** JUNK. That's why your Son told you to TAKE IT BACK! Lol... It was a couple of days not a month "redneck". wonderredneckhebrew wonder your a** off this post. Your point has been made several times, let me guess... you work for Dollar General in some fashion, wondering around causing havoc. Or just keep making your stupefied redneck remarks. Public Places are Fair Game, Almost

Generally, it's perfectly legal to videotape or photograph any person and anything while on public property, except:

You can't take pictures of areas that are usually considered private such as bedrooms, bathrooms, changing rooms, locker rooms, hotel rooms and so on
Certain public places have banned the use of cameras such as mass transit systems, courthouses, capital buildings, secured government buildings, jails or prisons unless you obtain written permission
You can't film or photograph if it interferes with police, fire, medical or emergency operations

"Security Risk My A**" FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION & RIGHT TO BE AN AMERICAN. We still have a Constitution last time I checked, even though "they" are doing EVERYTHING possible to DESTROY it. With all the SHEOPLE in this Country... That might happen. What has happened to INTEGRITY, MORALS & VALUE of ones self.

Just wanted to put that out there, I have already confirmed I am in compliance with TN Laws.

As for me being rude... What would your response be to someone in your face saying "you have to leave NOW! when it's 1 minute past. I was simply caught off guard.

Secondly, Look at all this JUDGEMENT. WOW! Are there "any" Christians on here making Comments? Sure doesn't seem to be the case.

This whole situation was totally out of line. If you research Dollar Generals Complaints with Google, you will find this is a trend. Apparently they think they are untouchable and can treat customers however they wish. That is CRAP. Or is it? Is this the "New Customer Service Protocols" ? Is this a result of The Patriot ACT ? Is this the start of the "Civilian POLICE Force" Obama was talking about? I have to ask these questions, if I don't who will?

I could understand this somewhat "if" I "personally" were a regular customer of that store and have caused trouble in the past... This is not the case, since that store was built 6 months ago or so... I have been there maybe 5 times. My wife "a Former Dollar General Manager" does most of the shopping. She say's she would have been fired on the spot for doing this to a Customer 8 years ago. Times have changed I guess.

As for me "looking" for a Lawsuit. Exactly the opposite, just not gonna lay down when being treated like this by a Employee of a Store where I'm BUYING their Product. RIDICULOUS.

Keep it coming TROLLS. People with 1 complaint & 2, 3, 4, 700 Comments = TROLL

So me being from TN classifies my accent as a redness. Interesting... most likely these people making comments work at Dollar General. Question, what has happened to customer service? Making sure the CUSTOMER is taken care of. This Country is on a down hill slide because of ###s like you. Where is the compassion for your fellow American? It was literally 1 minute after when this woman approached me rating... you have to leave! As I said it was 9:04:45 when my receipt was done. I arrived at 3 minutes til and as soon as I for to the isle... the other woman was screening..."I told him he had 3 minutes". Absolutely amazing the comments that have been posted. I say its Dollar General and their friends. Oh... I do have an attorney available anytime if needed and after yesterday experience there getting ice cream with my kids... It will be looked at very closely.

BTW, that was pretty shallow minded questioning my love for my Father because I grabbed a card at the last minute. You have no idea what your talking about.

Keep the comments coming, shows where this Country is headed.

Do upon to others as you would have them do upon you.

The only employee in the store did not greet me as I came in, although she greeted everyone else. She also did not speak one word to me as she checked me out. She did however speak to everyone else that was in line before me. I think its very rude to pick out the people she feels don't deserve the respect that everyone does.
Her name was Maggie and I think she's a manager. Which does not speak well of her or the store.

I feel that this company is very interested in earning the almighty dollar. They do nothing to ensure their employees safety. Sure, some locations have security cameras, but that seems provided moreso for reduction of customer thefts and shoplifters than to protect the employees. Why have a store open so late if there are few customers, and little to none neighboring businesses open?

I cannot stand to go into the store in Carencro anymore due to the rudeness of the employees. A man who is in there sometimes is why I quit going in the first place. I decided to try to shop in there today and once again rudeness is how they live and work. It's sad! I have shopped at your stores for years and hopefully after today I never need to walk into your store again.

Let me get this straight... You went into a store five minutes before they closed and thought it was acceptable to pay for your item and leave the store five minutes AFTER they closed and YOU are complaining? Do you know what closing time means? You are inconsiderate and have obviously never worked in retail or customer service or maybe you just aren't that bright. I am a closing manager at dollar tree and if we don't get out on time we get written up by the store manager. Three write-ups is a termination. You expect us to lose our jobs over YOU? Get a clue. You have no room to complain. You have it completely backwards.

Dollar General locust grove ga customer service appalling

Worst experience ever... Went to a dg in locust grove ga tonight they had items in boxes with prices on them and the items were not the price that was on the boxes... I was perfectly fine when I walked in to the store untill I walked down an isle and the whole isle was completely sticky my sandal actually came off my foot... Ridiculous... I told a cashier and she blew me off when I checked out she had a total attitude so I had one in return I dropped a body wash and it busted on the floor no one offered to clean it up. (Guess that's why the other isle was a complete mess too) when I went to the car I looked at my receipt and noticed the item was price wrong on the box and was expecting them to take off the few extra dollars I was then told by a "manager" that I came into the store with an attitude and I told her that she had one also I mean isn't it a managers duty to make sure the customers are happy? Well I looked for a name tag because I believe that the way she spoke to me was horrible even if the customer has an attitude we as the customer are always right so I asked for her name and she said devin asked for the customer service number and she says its on your receipt (And it is not on the receipt I had to go to the website to find it) then she gave me a dirty look and blew me off... And now for the cherry on top of my experience the cashier whose name tag was not on her shirt told me to clean up my mess that I had made when I had dropped the body wash! Excuse me they pay you to do that and she had the audacity to say this to me! I asked for her name she said it was brandy. I will never return to a dollar general again and would love to speak to someone about this I cannot believe that this actually took place they both should be fired in my opinion. Please contact me back.

I visit the dollar general store in Gordon, ga. at least 3 times per week. The products and prices are very good. My complaint is all the boxes and big carts blocking the isles. This store has many nice employees but they need some one or two persons to put stock only. They now have people putting up the stock and also try to run the register's. Please look into this matter and try to resolve it a.s.a.p.. thankyou joe simpson ivey ga.

Dollar General unfairness

I worked for Dollar General for over two years. All I wanted was to work part-time, a few hours a week to get out of the house. To make things short I ended up working full time and becoming Asst. Mgr in 6 months! I really enjoyed working there, up until the last six months. My mother became sick (lives in Germany) so I needed to go back there a few times in the last six months, DG was very understanding and let me go, with unpaid vacation and letting me return to my job when I came back (VERY THANKFULL!). Two weeks ago, my manager had a store meeting (all 4 of us) and was YELLING and SCREAMING at the top of her lungs on how SHE screwed things up in the store, by not doing what the District Manager told her to do, AND THAT IT WAS OUR FAULT! Funny, she screwed up, but it was our fault. We only did what SHE told us to do. At the time of the meeting we had quite a few customers in the store, who in turn was shocked at the yelling and screaming going on. Not only were they shocked but we were shocked also. Every Friday we have a conference call with our District Manager, (Richard Luce) for Asst.Managers and Third Key holders if the Assistant Manager is not present that day. The third Key holder (Jerry) came up to me and said the conference call is going to start, I said, " you do it today, I'm to upset to take part in it." He in turn told the Yelling and Screaming Manager, came back out and told me to got ahead and go home. Now, this was at 2 pm and my shift was over at 3:30 pm. So, I went home. The next day, I went to work at 0730 am, our manager was there she said "here is your right-up for not taking part in the conference call." I looked at her and said "you know what, all I said yesterday is that, you don't have to yell and scream at us, we are all adults here, you told us how you wanted to run the store, we did what you told us to do. "I have told you before, that I don't need this job, don't need to be treated like an idiot (if anybody knows anything about Germany, then they know people are trained for over two years in there profession they choose) here are your keys, I quit." She sat there, shocked and I walked out the door. I then told my husband about what happened, he said call the District Manager and tell him what happened, get your side of the story in, there's no telling what your manager will tell him. He had always told you, let me know if you are having any problems or need help with anything. I tried calling my District Manager, several times, leaving voicemails to please contact me, which he never did. I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER, set foot in another Dollar General Store. I have enough "dirt" on my manager to get her fired 10 times over. I won't do that, because thats not who I am. It is unbelievable, how a National chain of stores can treat there employees like Dollar General does. Iike I said, I will NEVER EVER SHOP THERE AGAIN.

You are correct "impudent1". The meetings are not optional, EXCEPT we were and have been told if the asst mgr and the third key are working, during that time, one or the other may attend or both. That is what our MANAGER told us. I am 52 yrs old and expect to be treated as an adult, I have earned that right. I have worked in retail since I was 14 years old and have NEVER been treated like this in any of my years working. Thank you Kimberly for sticking by what I have said, some people are blind by what DG tells them and believes everything that they say, to me it is a form of "brainwashing."

I'm sorry that you went thru that i am also a former employee of DG in San Antonio, Texas. Richard Luce was also my DM. I have to say I loved my job there and i'm glad to say I am returning to work there soon. I also had some family issues at the time with the loss of my brother. I did not return to work from then on. I am thankful that they gave me my job back. As for Richard Luce to me he was a great DM and have no complaints. You can't say that Dollar General treated you wrong. A person treated you wrong; that I do agree with a Manager should keep it at a professional level. That was very un-professional. The golden rule has always been and always will be treat people the way you would like to be treated.

Dollar General rude management

I went into Dollar general to pick up a few things. When I got to the register I noticed a few items rang up for more than the price they were marked on the shelf. When I spoke to a member of management about it, her name was Chauntel, she told me that the tags were wrong and should have been changed a long time ago. She then refused to change the prices for me saying that I should have noticed the dates on the shelf stickers were several years old. Isnt that the store management's job? This store in Leesville has gotten ridiculous in the last year

I visited the Dollar General Store in Merkel, TX on Friday May 31, 2010 around 6:15. Upon entering the store I noticed a large cart of cases of Dr. Pepper, Mt. Dew, and Pepsi with a sign posted $6. I went in and picked up some laundry detergent and fabric softner. Then I went to check out and asked the cashier if the $6 posted was for the case. She said yes. I then said I will go ahead and get a case of Mt. Dew and a case of Dr. Pepper. We brought them inside and they rang up $2. Immediately the cashier seemed flustered and requested management. The manager then appeared and I can not even begin to describe how rude she was. She started punching hard & vigerously on the key board complaining about how they shouldn't have posted the sign because the sale hasn't started yet. She never once spoke directly to me or apologized for the mistake only complaining to the cashier about how it wasn't her fault. She then demanded the cashier to go and take down the sign becase she WAS NOT going to go through this again. She was rude and hateful through this whole transaction. She made me feel as though it was my fault that the item did not ring up what the sign had posted. With a growing line waiting, I left the store feeling extremely humiliated and WILL NOT be returning. We have a Family Dollar in town and I will start driving the extra couple of blocks to visit that store. Furthermore I am very active and well known in the community and I will certainly pass this experience on to many of my friends. I was once in retail management and the one thing I learned was word of mouth advertising is the best form of advertising, therefore you always want your customer to have a good experience because more people will talk about the bad than the good. The cashier did say she was sorry for the wait as I was walking through the door to the next person in line maybe she got better service since she didn't have any cases of soda.

Every store that I have worked at the general policy was to give the customer the advertised price and then take the sign down (as long as the price mistake isn't something ridiculous that isn't plausible). I'm surprised they wouldn't do that for you as long as you weren't trying to take advantage of it.

Incase you didn't read my entire story I DID work retail for almost 7 years. I worked in retail management for over 5 of that. Then was a waitress for 5 years prior to that. I have worked in the public for many years and I would have never behaved that way in front of a customer. And I would have never made the customer feel it was their fault I was having to fix an issue. That was the first time the issue was dealt with because they were surprised about it and yes I was and am still due some sort of apology for the behavior displayed in my presence. You should never discuss issues like that infront of customers. That is the problem with this world today, very little respect and no customer service just always looking for someone else to blame. Any and all conversation while waiting on a customer IS the customer's business. Just another reason I prefer to shop online for most things and do away with jobs for rude people like you and the manager I dealt with.

I had a similar occurence. I requested a day off one month in advance to have two teeth filled at the dentist. I verbally submitted my request as well as posting it on the calender for days off. I was scheduled to work, when i confronted my manager she replied " i dont have to give it to you "! Thanks to another employee I was able to keep my appointment since he filled in for me. What kind of management is that, Ill tell ya. She decided to take that same day off, in this case it wasnt first come first serve. I havent felt the same about the job that I love every since. I feel very deceived and wonder who to trust now.

I bought a bird feeder from Dollar General. It just fell apart. I stoped by one day & showed them to a manager on duty. They were falling apart sitting on shelf & had not been removed. I has toldto bring it back & exchange it for something else. I took it in today, but ended up leaving w/ the junk. The manager on duty would not take it back & treated me like some fool. Unless this is taken care of I will not go back to any Dollar General.

Dollar General deceptive sale prices

When shopping last Saturday around 2:00 in the afternoon I purchased cherry pie filling with a sale tag of $2. I then got to the register and saw 2 litre Coke on sale for $1. When my purchases were being rung up I noticed that the clerk had charged # 2.25 for the pie filling. He said "Was it a tag like that? (Pointing to the soda stack) I said "Yes" to which he replied "That is tomorrow's sale." I said "That is deceptive advertising." He replied "I know, but the manager wanted to get the signs up before he left." The people behind me were going to buy the soda too until he said that. These signs should not have been up until late evening. No telling how many people bought stuff thinking it was on sale and paid the regular price.

Every Time I go into the Dollar General Store I am over charged on a few items that are on sale. This is really bad business. You may not think a quarter is a big deal but I work hard for my money. Just think of how much money they are making off all the stores and all the folks they are over charging. I know they aren't paying their employees well so shame on them for this dishonest practice.

I do know until just this week, we were told by our DM to place the sales ads and signage on the floor by 2pm on Saturday even though the sale didnt start until Sunday. Our poliy was to over-ride the prices if mentioned by the customer. However, I just worked today, our ad was effective this morning and as of my leaving at 330, our registers werent ringing correctly. And I absolutely KNOW that when I go in tomorrow, if the stuff still isnt ringing up properly, our Store Manager will tell us to pull all shelf tags, ads and flyers and pretend nothing is on sale! DG cares about nothing but $$$.

Dollar General retaliation

I complained to my district manager about the damages in my store #11824 ...because it hadn't been done in over a week by a specific employee Tom [censored]a who is in charge of that ..after the email.. the damages were done now nor Tom [censored]a speaks to me or The store manager since I sent the email...josh woomer is the acting store manager and she should act like one he lets Tom [censored]a do nothing all day and get paid for it when everyone has to work to get paid...I am the store assistant store manager and since the email Josh woomer has decided to cut my hours from 40 hrs to 35 hrs for next week and Tom [censored]a has 38hrs...it"s not that Josh woomer is cutting my hours because of my work ethics or performance or attendance..it"s just because I made the dm aware of his slacking performance in running the store Tom [censored]a knows that he is to do the damages twice a week and does what he wants to do and I end up doing it because of the best interest of the store and the company...I have child support which will be affected by this change decided by Josh woomer...The store moral has gone down so low by the actions of Josh woomer that most of the employees want to resign...is there anything someone can do to help me resolve this situation I'm also getting fed up but he's not going to get away with playing with my livelyhood or my kids I need help to resolve this asap please thanks

I think this is probably the under-performers forum. I would probably suggest to all of you to spend less time complaining about what other people are not doing, and concentrating on what you should be doing. Maybe then you will have someone to blame on your troubles other than yourselves.

I work in a DG similar to what youve explained, at least regarding what youve said about the managers cutting hours. I am frequently a victim of my store manager getting upset at me and cutting my hours down to anywhere from 0-5 hours a week and she does it whenever she gets upset with an employee. She either cuts your hours to the point you cant live or she will give you the worst hours that no one wants. Or she will give you hours that you cannot take due to prior engagements. I know mine does this in an effort to get us to quit. Im sorry you have to deal with similar problems. DG is apparently notorious about it.

The chain of command is a joke ! Go to the RM and let him know what is going on and he is not doing his job !
I am a Store Manager and I treat all my employees with respect and they respect me the same .. I do not favor anyone, we all work as a team.
But I do know how you feel because I have been there, I worked for the laziest store managers ever and no-one would listen so I went to the top, and something was done about it ! I even split my bonus with my employees because they work just as hard as I do and they deserve it !

If you saw a model store an investor store fall apart once taken over by some young kid with no experience and at the same time lowering the moral of the employees who worked so hard to maintain it at that level for someone to come tear it down and let a lead with no interest in the company do everything but his job wouldn't you be bothered...he is really good at one thing he can surely smoke himself some packs of cigarretes in no time at all tooo bad his work ethic isn't the same

Dollar General employee assist in theft / rude

I entered the store a weeks ago during the evenig hours around about 6pm. When i entered the store the clerk did not speak and was not even aware of my entrance. Because i am from out of town, i am not familar with this store, so i asked an employee by the name of Britney i believe to assist me in finding a product. I was looking for their laundry detergent and i was trying to locate some medicine and a couple of other things. So i asked her to help me locate these items, and she told me she was busy, and said find them myself, i then informed her that i was from out of town, and she responded, so and kept on doing what she was doing, stocking i believe. After wondering all over the store and locating these items myself, when i approached the register the lines were too long, but i saw that there were two employees behind there register, the one i had met and the other, she then began to open the other register, and checkout other customers. She came upon one customer that she knew because the customer kept saying her name out loud, and laughing this is how i got her name. But as she was scanning, i noticed that she was not scanning some of her items and just putting them in the bag, not many but enough. When i approached the register, she told me her lane was closed and told me to go to the other lane, but when i went to the other lane i had about three individuals in front of me. By this time i had become frustrated, put my items back and walked out of the store. I think this is a very rude and unprofressional store and i will never go back to that store again.

Dollar General theif

Company information:
Dollar General
Chattanooga, Tennessee

Dollar General is trying to use me as a scape goat for their lack of security at the store at which I was employed. I was an employee there less than six weeks. While working there I can recall a few incidents of customers stealing. When this occurred I responded and reacted as I was trained. I immediately attempted to alert the on duty store manager. The Managers' response was lackadaisical or none at all. As the only employee on duty and having the cash register responsibility with no security guard at the store, there is not much an employee can do. I alerted the Managers and they did nothing. Each time there was a theft while I was working there I alerted the Manager and received no response. Currently Dollar General i maintaining that I was in some type of conspiracy to steal over $40, 000 worth of merchandise from their store. This is absolutely ludicrous. I even cooperated with them to tell them the people I knew who were involved. Dollar General is maintaining that I am responsible for losses incurred at that store even before I started working there. I was a good employee, enjoyed the time I was there and was loyal to Dollar General. I would think to get that much merchandise I would have to back up an 18 wheeler to the store and load it up to get that much merchandise. I am unemployed and have three kids I will not go to jail for something i didnt do. Dollar General picked me to blame because their store is located in a high crime area, they do not have adequate security and they thought I was weak and they could use me as a scapegoat. I truly believe that the store GM interrogated me like I was a criminal when i was the victim. I was mis-treated and talked to like I was a criminal. Even the investigating police officer was not forthright. I attempted to contact them many times to no avail to try to assist in this case. In the end I am being charged with felony theft while they have absolutely no evidence. As I stated in my opening I am being made a scapegoat due to the lack of security. This appears to be an insurance scam. I have done absolutly nothing wrong and will fight till I am fully acquitted. I am planning on suing Dollar General for defamation of Character. I will keep readers of this board informed .

I was a store manager and was tranfered to a new store. When i arrived the change fund was short. I admit I did not inform the DM, but i was told that the DM didn't like to micromanage, so i took that as i needed to handle it in house. I was gathering the evidence i needed, and was sent to management school. I was in school and the DM came into the store, and found that the change fund was short. I was called and interigated about where the money was. The next day i was pulled from class interigated by and LP and suspended pending investigation, I was terminated a few days later. I have yet to be paid what i worked. no explinations.

I work in a store where our former 3rd keyholder was stealing massively stealing. She supposedly would have her boyfriend come in, fill up several of our large dark plastic totes with expensive inventory and then return all the items later in her shift, WITH NO RECEIPT FOR CASH! Our manager never noticed this! Our DM, after seeig=ng our communication board and the sales vs %returned board was very very high for 2 weeks straight, (over 500.00 in 3 days Im told!) she came and veiwed the cameras and say everything! To this day, our Store Manager still says it wasnt the girls fault, it was the drugs her boyfriend was addicted to! I dont see how someone else being addicted to drugs has anything to do with someone both consciously stealing AND fraudulently returning items!

Dollar General racial harrassment and discrimination

I would like to express my deep concerns about an apparent racial harassment incident that occurred at Dollar General, 2884 New Cut Road, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29303. My son was employed at this location for approximately one year and developed a good rapport with the customers and store management. After the store manager (the person who hired him) retired, he experienced extreme harassment under the new management: (1) He was monitored under excessive surveillance, (2) The store manager communicated to him in a very disrespectful and demeaning manner, (3) He was denied time off and threatened to be fired when he called in sick for the first time while other employees were granted release time under less stringent circumstances. This harassment reached a climax on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 when he reported to work and was asked to take a call from the District Manager. The District Manager informed him that he needed to attend an employee training session that should have been scheduled by the prior store manager. My son informed her that the scheduled date and time for this training conflicted with his current college class schedule. With a total disregard to his class schedule, the District Manager told him that if he failed to attend he would be demoted from his current position to a cashier which required him to turn in his store keys. My son was quite upset at the response, turned in his keys and quit his job. After I learned about this incident, I call and spoke to the store manager and she confirmed my suspicions about this matter—a clear indication of undercover racial harassment on the job. She stated that the former store manager operated the store in the same manner he operated a former business that he owned but this will be changed under the new management. I requested the name and telephone number of the District Manager but was denied. I am PRAYERFULLY awaiting a call from the District Manager but in the meantime I wanted to share this story and alert the public that racial harassment and discrimination is still infecting our workplace. I also encourage and challenge those who experience such cruel and unjust treatment to speak out and let your voice be heard—even if it is a small matter.
