Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Dollar General handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Dollar General and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Dollar General blacksville, wv store

The store at Blacksville, WV is filthy. It has been this way for months. The floors rarely get scrubbed, and there is always garbage and products on the floor. This morning, I found a container of Edy's ice cream sitting on the floor. I am sure that a customer left it there, but, believe me, I doubt if a clerk would have bothered to pick it up. I placed it in the freezer, with its dirty bottom facing upward, so that no one would purchase it.

It is clear that, when the floors get swept, a push brown goes down the center of the aisle only. A scrubbing very rarely takes place. If these floors were scrubbed, you would have to use a scrubbing pad on caked on dirt before the mop was used. And floor wax? Never. Believe me, if managements states that mopping and waxing are done on a regular basis, they are lying.

The parking lot is dirty, too. Litter everywhere. The mats and sidewalks are dirty.

The shelves are cluttered and not always stocked. As a result, it is difficult to locate items. I frequently check several areas of the store for an item. This has been a problem since the store first opened.

I visited a nearby store a week ago. 20 minutes away. It was so clean and orderly, and to my surprise, I learned that both stores have the same district manager. Why would the DM permit one store to be so filthy and, after talking to the manager, be so demanding of the other?

This store has been open for a few years and uncleanliness, disorderly shelving, and insufficient stock has been a reoccurring problem. I have talked to a two long term employees and morale is bad. They probably remain at the store because it is close to home. I know that turnover at this store, as well as in retail in general, is high. However, surely, if this store had a better reputation (and this includes treatment of employees), it would be easier to hire good employees and keep them.

I have worked retail, and various members of my family have worked retail for years. I couldn't work in this store, and I know that they could not either.

As I said earlier, I wish that I had an alternative place to shop in my area. If I did, I would avoid this store. It is just disgusting.

If the Blacksville store was not so close to my home, I would not shop there. However, since this is a rural area, options are limited.

I wish that I had taken pictures. Corporate needs to send someone down there to check it out and take pictures, someone that is not known to the DM and staff.

Dollar General products not on shelves

I live within 10 miles of three DG's ...there are things you have at a price point that nobody else has...so I go there. The aisles always have boxes of stuff being unloaded in them and you cant' get to anything on the shelves. This is at all three stores...I have been in DG coast to coast and they are all the same. There aren't enough employees to stock and check out. I'll say all the employees are friendly and helpful ...but the don't seem to stay very long...must be difficult to work there. I am also a shareholder and the stock has done well...but I'm wondering how much longer it can survive ..I took pictures of two of the stores if you would like to see them.

Dollar General no hair products for black people on shelf

Why is it that this store is new shelves fully stocked but there are no hair products on your shelves for black people? Store is in a predominantly white neighborhood. I hate to say it but it seems as though someone is trying to keep the black people out of this store. This is truly sad you still have companies that don't want to deal with black people or any other race that's not caucasian. Well this world is full of several races but if you don't want my money I have no problem spending it at family dollar, sallys, beauty supply businesses and walmart.

Dollar General no cashier around - ever

The new Lisbon, NH store hardly has a cashier up front or around near by to cash you out. There has been plenty of times going there and I've waited a good 10 Min. to be checked out. While I wait I walk the end isles to see if there is an associate to call upon, no one. I understand they have to stock shelves too but they really need to have one person up front dedicated to checking people out and stocking up front, seeing who is coming in and out of the store. This place could have been robbed from merchandise and they wouldn't have know. I as well as others could have just simply walked out of there on multiple occasions.

Dollar General I worked there

Dollar general corinth< ny 12822 I worked there for a couple of months and I really enjoyed my job but a lot of stuff happened. I was told I would have day hours and then I was put on nights, 4-1015 shift which I do not mind once in a while. I have problems at home just like everyone else but I put in all my effort and made friends with customers. I enjoyed every minute of being there. The managers could not be on the same page at all. Too many things were coming up missing and drugs are a big deal there, now a couple people are hhired that worked at a bar, I don't think that it should be who is known on how you get a job or how you are treated. Like I said I have 4 children as well. What am I suppose to do? I told them I was done on friday the 11-04-2016. But I really love my job. Can some one help me?

Dollar General disorderly store

The store in New Waverly Texas has been a disaster for quite a long time. As this store is the closest business to all the residents of the area, many of us use it as a convenience, so that we do not have to drive a long distance to a grocery. The pictures attached show how this store is EVERYDAY!

I have two young sons who have fallen a few times from the overwhelming amount of store items that are on the floor.

Two people cannot go down the same isle at the same time.

This store has a lawsuit waiting to happen. Either someone is going to fall and hurt themselves, or God forbid if the store would to catch fire people will possibly die.

I have spoke with the Fire Marshall and explained the situation without mentioning the business at hand. He stated that from what I described to him, the building should be shut down.

I wanted to give Dollar General the ability to rectify the situation prior to me taking that step.

Again, I have been a resident of the area for many years and I know that this store has been on the decline in this matter for about the last year and a half.

You must not be able to tell that they are stocking. Since they do not work overnight to stock, they have to do so during the regular business hours. I have managed to shop in stores like this for 27 years without ever having hurt myself. It is a simple case of watching your kids and watching where you are going.

Otherwise, you will be here complaining that the shelves are empty.

Dollar General coupons not scanned

I went in to do a $25 deal, Now my husband just had spine surgery so money is tight. I was only allowed to use 1 manufacturer coupon, when i was trying to use 5. There was no limit on the coupon but the cashier held the line up and argued. Then the manager came up and argued some more. Manager took all the laundry soap out my bag and told me they would have to be rung up separate. This will be my last visit to dollar general period. I only got 1 laundry soap, 1 fabric softener, loaf of bread. and it cost me $18.

11/5/2016 around 3 pm.

Dollar General overcharge

I went into store #11071 in Spartanburg S.C. to get a few items. While there I see they have Halloween candy there with signs up for buy three get one free. So I pick up four of the $5.00 bags along with my other items. I check out then I look at the receipt and was charged for all four bags of the candy. I got the manager and was told "Well you have to look in the ad. It's only certain ones that are on sale." I told him that they need to fix it on the shelves since the signs are on the wrong boxes. I
I would have loved to see him at least give me $5.00 back but noooo and wouldn't fix the self items so now how many others are going to do the same as I did. I shop this store all the time but now that things are happening like this more often I am not going to be shopping here. I will find somewhere else to go.

Dollar General unethical behaviour

Upon entering the store (Manager-Ross) said I will be checking backpacks, purses, bags _ I think I grunted but never said nothing about NO you will can't check mine. Upon getting my two cards and proceeding to checkout (cashier - Manager - Kalia purple/pink hair) said Ross needs to look in your purse before you check out. Granted that's not what he said upon entering the store neither did he say this to other customers. Kalia went out to say out load to a crowed store "###" I seen you around and if he can't look in your purse before checking out you not getting the cards. Granted I have not shoplifted from Dollar General nor been ever arrested for anything - I am a successful woman of God just trying two buy two cards. I left the store and went to car but came back because I wanted their names for cursing, yelling at me in front of customers when no one else was treated by this unethical behavior. I want these three managers fired and a apology in front of them. I will be pursuing a lawyer by Monday to discuss my rights to sue your company and the three managers for unethical behavior to a black woman. This was at 1555 Washington Street East - Charleston, Wv. I'm still trying to find my receipt but I think I was so upset by the names I left it

Dollar General entire store

I only live about 5 blocks from our NEW General Dollar store. We are about 15 to 20 minutes away from all other stores. I am very appreciative of your company putting us a Store here in Helena, AR. But it is terrible. The store is always dirty, the shelves are never stocked. The Employees are very slow at helping out customers. I see NO MANAGEMENT in this store at all. I have been trying to get my Motrin PM there for the past month and it's always the truck hasn't run or the truck just run but we have to get someone in to stock the shelves. I have done been in there 4 or 5 times since the truck has run this week and the shelves still aren't stocked. I just left from there, went to get ice and they were even out of that! Like I said Thank you for putting this store here. it is so much more convenient for us. But it is seriously LACKING MANAGEMENT.

Dollar General cashier attitude

Shopped at the dg in franklin ga. The cashier is rude and condescending. With all of the unemployment of today, you would think they would hire people with better "people skills". I am retired and do not have to work, but I talk to people with more respect than the dollar general cashier. I can think of different store in which to spend my money. No more dg for me.

People's attitudes usually are a reflection of the way they are spoken to themselves. I find that most people will be nice upon a first meeting, but when retired people who do not have to work speak to lowly cashiers they usually do so in a rude and condescending manner.

Dollar General digital coupon policy

Shopped at Dollar General in Champlain, NY on Sept. 25, 2016. Could not purchase weekly specials because only digital coupons are accepted. I am a Sennior on a limited income and do not have a Smart phone and will not purchase one so I can shop at this store. I personally feel this is not a good policy for consumers because not everyone can afford the cost of a Smart phone, this will inevitably limit shopping at Dollar pGeneral

Dollar General customer service

The main employee at our dollar general has always been so rude. I have been going for 7 years. He has been there at least the last year. One time i had bought about 6 cards. He separated each envelope from its card and stacked them up so i had to rematch later. Rarely does he ever even look up from the register to acknowledge you as a customer when checking out. If he does he is curt and rude. He acts as if it is a bother to come in the store because he needs to restock the shelves. I love dollar general, but dread going when he is working, he doesnt wear a name tag, so dont know his name. Yesterday, I asked him how much a tube of lipstick was. Never looking at me in the face, he told me to sit the lipstick down. I didnt understand, and he repeated "sit the lipstick down". Then he picked it up and scanned it. Crazy rude man! I am a business owner myself and would never treat a customer like he treats everyone!
My last store visit was 2pm, 9/24/16 at 2127 Sadal Ct denton, tx 76210

Dollar General facility

We are glad to have a DG in our rural area. We are concerned that the restrooms aren't in working order in this new store. I have seen employees ask to go the gas station across the 4 lane road to use the toilet. They say they must plunge the toilet with every flush. It seems unsanitary for employees to do this or cross the road to use a restroom. It is a rural area so customers also need access to a restroom often stopping while going home from town a long 30 mile drive.
Florida law requires sanitary facility for all businesses.

Dollar General pricing issues, overcharging

At the Dollar General in Fort Scott Kansas I generally have good service, and not much to complain about. However, they need to do something about educating their staff on how to calculate when the scanner/computer doesn't do it for them.

Bought a DVD that was clearly marked "$6.00". Scanner brought up a price of $10.00 I had only two other purchases, one was $1.50 and the other was $2.75. My total should have came to $11.75 before tax. The girl saw that the dvd was marked for $6 but said something about this is a 'scanner training' issue? And proceeded to tell me she would have to mark it down the other $4.00 by taking it off of the other items. This would mean that somehow she would have to come up with a way to divide .25 over two items. Instead she charged me 25 cents on each. Now, this means that I was overcharged by a quarter. Not much, no big deal. Well, yes and no. I don't mind paying the extra 25 cents, it isn't going to break me. But that does not fix the situation that the dvd is not pricing correctly and every one of that same one will not price correctly. Another issue is training, this doesn't fix the issue that the girl obviously needs more training if she cannot calculate it correctly. The third issue is, had I decided to pick up something for a quarter and walk out with it, that would be considered theft. It works both ways. DG really needs to invest in their employees training AND they need to fix their computers/scanners that are not pricing things correctly. If every one of these dvds that are marked $6 and are scanning $10 are all being scanned into a central database, DG is making money off of their customers dishonestly-if it isn't caught and corrected. I will be paying quite a bit more attention when I shop there.

Dollar General filthy hand baskets for groceries

I frequent the Dollar General in my community because it has many products that are so much more inexpensive than my grocery mart. However, the grocery baskets that are stacked inside the front door for shopping are disgusting and I will not use one as it makes me feel sick when I see the inside of them. They are all the same. They are so disgusting I will not even use one. If necessary, I will use a cart even for just one item. Can't they be replaced with new ones?, or at least scrubbed.

Dollar General manager / employees at the forney texas dollar general

I try not to go to Dollar General. I think the staffing is crazy. You have ONE
person at the register while other employees are in the break room or stocking shelves. The manager can walk up and walk outside, walk back in and keep walking even when there are 11 people in line, yes 11. I waited 20 minutes with a 2 year old to check out just for Tylenol. If I really didnt need it, I would have left. This seems to be the case in other Dollar General's also. The store on Motley Drive in Mesquite Texas is just as bad. But the one in Forney is run by a asian / irani man who is rude rude rude. If you want us to continue
to use this brand new store please do something about it.
There are many of us in my community who feel this way.
I look forward to any comments you may have.

Dollar General manager behavior

I have been coming in Dollar General for quite a while and do not mind spending money there. The reason that I am writing this that in Woodruff SC.after standing in line for almost 10 minutes while a refund held up the line, the manager said I will take someone over here. Now, we live in a first come, first serve world, but, the manager moved my things out of the way, went to a lady still in the original line and said that she is next. How dare her! She knew her or else she would not have known her name. I said you can keep the purchase, abot 20.00 dollars worth and left the store. It will be a cold day in hell before I am treated like that again. Her job should be to ring up who is in front of her, not be the moral police. You should look at this store and who you have managing it! Nasty store, I almost slipped in a soda spilled all over the floor, better be glad that I did not!
