Dishonest self-serving people!
Complaint Rating: 78 % with 9 votes
I recently separated from my wife. I called GEICO to ask them to send our auto insurance bills to my new address. When they heard I was separated, GEICO immediately removed me from my former policy (which jointly insured both my estranged wife and I) leaving only my estranged wife on the policy. GEICO then created a new policy for me (increasing my premium by over 100%). They also re-rated the former policy (which covers my estranged wife) and refused to discuss the new premium with me. Finally, they re-applied my most recent premium payment (which had been applied to the old joint policy) to the policy which now insures my estranged wife only. They told me that my wife could cancel the policy and if she chose to do so, they would refund my premium to her.

I asked them by what legal authority they were splitting up our policy and making decisions about applying my payment exclusively to my wife’s account. They told me that my wife called them and asked them to split up the accounts and that their actions were standard company procedure in a divorce situation. When I called my estranged wife (we are on amicable terms) to inquire about why she asked GEICO to split up the accounts, she said she never talked to them. Not once . . . EVER! GEICO FLAT LIED TO ME ABOUT MY WIFE CALLING THEM!!!! They also used my separation (not a divorce yet) as grounds to jack our rates through the roof. Never (repeat NEVER) do business with these dishonest self-serving people. Avoid them like tainted shellfish.

SAY NO TO GEICO!!!

I have spent the last two months going around and around with GEICO...it is the most unprofessional and incompetent company that I have ever worked with.

They told me they would pay my auto claim back in December, but then said they would not because they claimed I had no insurance. When reviewing my case, I told them what the GEICO rep told me on October 16 - that if I called on October 20 to make a payment, then everything would be taken care of. They pretty much called me a liar, and said they had no record of a phone call on that day. I proved them wrong by collecting the phone records from my place of business and confirmed my story. Even with those records, and me proving that they keep inadequate records, they refused to pay. During the two months that I have been dealing with this, they have given me, and admitted to giving me, erroneous information on several occasions, haven’t called me back when promised (making me wait up to a week for a response), and the list goes on and on. I have contacted the Florida Insurance Commissioner’s office twice now, the first time having them siding with GEICO. In the letter that the commissioner's office sent to me describing why they sided with GEICO, the reason they gave was TOTALLY incorrect, because all they did was call GEICO and ask them what happened instead of doing an actual investigation. GEICO gave the commissioner’s office an absolutely false statement, which I have proven since then, and the commissioner’s office is now involved in their second investigation.

I URGE you not to get involved with GEICO Insurance Company. In addition to the countless problems that I have with this company, I went to another company and received much better service and deal! Please look around...15 minutes with GEICO can only lead to months of headaches and troubles, not a smaller insurance bill!

I agree that GEICO is the most unprofessional and incompetent company that I have ever worked with.

I too spend the last month calling GEICO being swiched from department to department.Only for them to raise my policy 100%.Though I have no moving vialations, and the insident
that I had was not with them and still under investigation
and through no fault of mine. It's Great that they'er not the only insurence in town.AND I'AM FROM N.Y.C.

P.S.if you don't want to loose your head don't waist your time
with GEICO.

If you're living in two separate places, of course you have to have separate policies. The rating factors are different depending on where you live. If you're separated, you have to be listed as such, which would of course cause the premium to increase as well.

What you're trying to do by keeping the two of you on the same policy is called rate evasion, and it's illegal. I'm not saying you're trying to be a criminal here, but they could certainly file criminal charges if they wanted.

GEICO AUTO BREACH OF CONTRACT RE: Reply to BBB
I have received your letter dated April 9, 2008 regarding the full coverage that was removed from my account by Geico Ins Corporation without my knowledge on February 1, 2006. I am fully aware of what Geico is telling the BBB and the BOI. It is a blatant untruth. This was my initial complaint. The problem lies herein, that full coverage was removed from my policy, without my knowledge, when I called to renew. Geico took it upon themselves to do so and I was never made aware of this until my accident 2 years later. Visual Inspection? Ive never heard of such, and was never informed of such.

This vehicle was still owned by the bank and was the day of the accident as well. I was made aware that it was "THE LAW" that a vehicle carry full coverage until paid off. Suntrust Bank was never notified, nor was I. Otherwise, I would have done what needed to be done to correct the situation. I pay all my bills online or via telephone. There was no reason for me to read the policy, as nothing should have changed, nor was I informed of any changes.

Here we have an ethical injustice with one of the largest Insurance Corporations in the WORLD. Sure they can claim the lowest rates, when they ad to, remove and/or manipulate whatever they wish without the consumers knowledge. My main concern other than being rightfully compensated, is that CONSUMER BEWARE... How many others has GEICO done this to?
The accident was on Feb 23, 2008, Thank God, no one else was even near me, Saturday 7am on my way to work on a busy interstate, raining hard, no ticket was issued. GEICO paid for the damaged Guard Rail...I paid $150 Wrecker Fee, $500 for the rental car, lost time from work, had to buy a new car, and am now in financial ruin when on Feb 22, 2008, I was so happy to be paying off my 2002 Camaro (35th Collectors Edition) and having one less payment a month.

My answer, therefore, is NO. I am in no way satisfied with Geico's EXCUSE/DECISION to not afford me the coverage I am rightfully due and have paid for all these years. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
I have faith in the justice system and the Bureaus that you stand for and have no doubt you will all make the right decisions in this unjust matter.

I am insured by geico since 2006 and I believe that they where the lowest rate i could find on auto insurance but that does not compare to all the hidden fees that they require you to pay without any notice. Geico should change its name to fraudco anything they can do to put money in there pockets. Geico charges hidden fees like under 3 years new driver insurance and if you had an international license for 6 years before that and get a US license they charge you as a new driver what crock of s***. Stay away from Geico if your a new driver and if your thinking of getting geico they will tell you a quote that is resonable and then when you take it they will add all kinds of fees when you least expect it to come. Geico sucks!!!

I have sent David Edgar, your Auto Damage Supervisor in Scottsdale AZ, two fax letters about a Diminished Value claim. I have not heard back from him one way or the other. For the most part your company has taken care of my claim when my car was hit by one of your policy holders. But this is unprofessional and all I am asking is for the matter to be answered one way or the other so that I am able to proceed on my claim.
Thank you,

My son was hit by an individual insured by GEICO, he was pulling a trailor and the insured pulled out and hit him in the side of the trailor destroying it. The insured was at fault according to the police report, however now GEICO has denied liability for this claim. This is a $2000 claim which their insured was totally responsible for and they are denying coverage. I am in the process of filing suit again this rediculous company for this simple cliam. BEWARE if you have GEICO or have the misfortune of being involved in an accident with one of their insured. THEY WILL DO ANYTHING TO KEEP FROM PAYING THE CLAIM. The Regional Claims Rep. is Jeremy House and the adjustor is Gerardo. The experience I have had thus far with this company has been very negative. All I am asking for is that I be made whole and put in the same position I was in prior to their client hitting my trailer. Now I am out of a trailor completely. A INNOCENT VICTIM OF ONE OF THEIR "CLIENTS" SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SUFFER DUE TO THIS COMPANY GOING TO ANY EXTREME NOT TO COVER CLAIMS THAT THEIR CLIENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR. ALL I WANT IS TO BE MADE WHOLE AND THIS ENTIRE MATTER PUT BEHIND US.

STAY AWAY FROM GEICO! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS INSURANCE AND HOPE AND PRAY THAT ONE OF THEIR "CLIENTS" DON'T RUN INTO YOU!!!

First of all, let me start by saying I work in the insurance industry. Second of all, I carry GEICO insurance, and I don't even work for them! Third of all, just by working in insurance, I know that ANY insurance company, big or small, will pay out money that they DON'T EVEN HAVE TO...just to keep from what they call 'bad faith suits' or putting their insureds on the hook.

Wendy Baxley, if GEICO is denying your claim - please be specific. Are they denying the liability (fault) of the claim, or are they saying their is no coverage and their insured's policy cancelled?

The last thing I'll respond to is Maria's comment since the others are from ages ago.

Maria, please refrain from being ignorant. Many people believe they know what insurance is or how it works, but they don't. I don't hold it against people since I did not know too much about it since I got into the industry fifteen years ago. NO insurance company can just 'hide fees' ... some companies are different regarding time frames, but I know my company will send out WRITTEN CORRESPONDENCE fifteen (15) days prior to changing the policy and letting them know why. Like I said, GEICO might have a different time frame, but I can guarantee you it gets done. When you get a quote with any insurance company, you can BS your way through the quote, get a nice rate, and think you're on your way.

Unfortunately, companies are not dumb...they will run reports to verify if it's correct - if it's not, they technically can cancel your policy for material misrepresentation. They will, however, give you the benefit of the doubt, and just update the policy accordingly, once they have sent you the letter and have given you time to call and discuss.

Now that I've defended GEICO for five minutes, it's time for me to go apply for a job!

Thanks all.
