I purchased Direct TV on line in Sept. 2007. No where on the site did it state that my bill would be over the amount that was calculated on line as being $59.99 a month plus $13.00 extra for HBO channels. When I received my bill there was a charge for each receiver that I had of $4.99 a month. My actual statement came to $83.00 plus change. Then I was notified that the contract I did on line was for two (2) years.

In February I received my monthly statement and they (Direct TV) had increased my monthly statement to $91.73 a month. I contacted Direct TV and they informed me that I had been notified of the hike in my monthly contact via inserts in my last months statement. I believed that my contract would be the same amount I signed up for? How can they (Direct TV) do this legally?

I am all for a class action lawsuit against Direct TV. How is it that this company can use false advertising to its customers, raise their monthly rate anytime they please and we the consumers have to agree to it? Please let me know immediately if there is any class action cases against Direct TV--- sign me up!!!

They did a similar thing to us. They offered us a promotional package for $43.00/mo., with the first three months free. We told them we didn't want it. When we got our first bill, the promotion was on there and our address was incorrect. I called Direct TV and told them to cancel the promotion (because we never used it) and correct our address. The girl spoke such poor English that I was on the phone with her for like 45 minutes because she kept putting me on hold and coming back. Surprise, surprise... she didn't cancel the promotion and still screwed up our address. When our last bill arrived, there were charges for the promotion. We called and told them we cancelled it a while ago, but they said, "Sorry, we have no record of you calling to cancel it, so you have to pay it." Total scam. Of course they have no record... because they have every incentive NOT to create a record so they can charge you later.

Let's sue 'em!

I agree with you all. My situation was not a promotion, but honor of contract. DirectTv sent out nation wide flyers stating that you will get local and satelite channels for a promotional price. The only problem with that is that a lot of these flyers come from authorized dealers but have DirectTv name on it. When our service got connected, we noticed that we did not have loca channels. Come to find out that local channels were not in our area but they want to charge me for earlier termination fee because I disconnected my service. I entered the contract with the promise of having local channels, so I feel like they didn't honor their part of the contract...

we were told our bill would be around 30.00 each month, it soared to 85.00 per month. we were told we were purchasing the equipment, we now pay a lease each and every month for the next 18 months. customer service hasnt told us the same story once out of all the calls we made to them. i want in on that class action suite. contact me, im ready to sue.

Guys and Gals, what they did to me is totally outrageous!
They let someone from another state get service in my name. I have a fraud alert on all my credit reports. They did not call me or anything. But they called when I ordered service in my "real hometown." Crazy, huh? I have contacted an attorney, in hopes of filing a class action lawsuit against them. Cuz if they did that to me, they have done it to someone else.
