DirecTV unauthorized debit on expired card

Beware! My checking account debit card had expired in Oct. 2010. I made payment arrangements to pay my past due bill plus the next month's bill on Nov 11, 2010. On or around November first they debited over $367.00 from my account. I called to have the charge reversed. I was on the phone for over 3 hours demanding and speaking to supervisors and supervisor's supervisors. I explained my main point--I already called on Oct. 26, 2010 to set up arrangements to pay Nov 11th. This was so I could pay my mortgage. What good does it do to have satellite TV if you can't pay for the roof over it? I had to contact my bank and file a fraudulent charge claim and get it reversed--which really worked! Apparently making payment arrangements with those clowns is as binding as scotch tape on the space shuttle. Beware! There will likely be another comment on this board when I once again, call the clown college and dispute all the charges on my account. Why get charged for NFL Sunday ticket when your service is cut off. What a bunch of "igits."

DirecTV fraudulent pricing/billing

4 months ago I called in to direct tv about getting a package. I was quoted $46.00 a month if I used the automatic withdrawal for payment from my account. They came to install it and at the end was charged $53.00. They gave free 3 months promo on starz and showtime never stating you had to call and cancel. This month they took $88.83 from my checking account. When I called in trixie told me I was wrong and that I didn't have more taken from my checking account. Hello you idiots! I know what comes out of my checking account. I got mad and swore at her. I asked for a supervisor and she hung up on me. Not when I swore-but when I asked for a supervisor. They took the channels off and did not put difference back into my account. They gave a credit. I have auto payments coming out. Beware! Do not recommend these crooks! Oh - and trixie first tried to tell me it was an increase to provide me better service. I signed a contract locking them into a price. Apparently according to trixie they can increase it for better service. I told her if that was the case and we were locked in I could change my mind at any time. I don't trust these guys at all!

Oh I am far from miserable. I have a lot more going for me than you do I am sure of that. All you 2 have to look forward to is attacking people on the "public Forum" as you put it. You 2 idiots have missed the boat on even understanding what this site is for. You guys are actually entertaining when you show your lack of intelligence. You like to make yourselves sound knowledgeable but you are not. And I am quite satisfied at home, but thank you once again for thinking you know everything. You remind me of school kids trying to bully the kids you were jealous of because your mommy or daddy would buy you what the other kids had. So pathetic are you!

Again, you are a pretty ignorant person. Do I care if you post my messages? No. Do you care? Obviously you do...pretty typical of someone who can't win the battle based on intellectual debate. It's all about you, how does your husband put up with you. Probably, spends more time away just to be able to live with you.
Oh, love the "check your spelling". That is classical attempt to try and show your intelligence.

What's wrong, did I get under your skin? Of course I did because you are very thin skinned and can't come up with anything on your own. Someone disagrees with you or gives you a different spin and you SNAP.

I guess this is the only thing you figure you can do, since you can't say anything too make yourself look good because you can't make ### look good. It's ###, it is what it is. Your a piece of ### left out to dry and harden. No one gives you a second glance because there is nothing special about you or your personality. Your post show how miserable of a person you really are.

You asked for the verbal assault against you. You sent me an IM so I would know what was going on. I believe I read each and everyone of the post and I even said that 123321 was not trying to be combative towards you but you won't believe anything but your own lies you tell yourself every day.

Like I keep telling you, go ### yourself it appears you need it really bad.

Real post is Direct TV having to return the over charge that these 2 ignorant ones think that they now everything about. To all you people out there with Direct TV problems, use BBB as they are not only supportive but help out with legitimate complaints with companies like mine was. Mine was resolved not as these 2 idiots would have you believe because I whined. It was because I was correct with my contract. And my new bill came in correctly this month. Enough said. That is the true purpose of my complaint. Not these 2 idiots.

They wanted you to pay $250 to use their equipment so you can pay a monthy leasing fee, DVR fee, and pay for their montly services? Bearing in mind these recievers will always belong to them, you're upset you didn't get to this "deal"? I would be upset they wanted me to pay anything at all outside of the monthly lease fees.

Maybe it's because I have never had satellite that I'm not ok with these policies. I have never had to pay an upfront fee for the recievers or DVR's that I wanted. If a new receiver comes out and I want it, I call and at worst be put on a waiting list until they have one for me and then someone comes out and installs it for free.

Post from 123321. Admits never has had satellite yet knows everything

Equity statement was in reference to the ignorant comments that I don't know what is in a contract. Probably know better than the 2 of you put together! Never said I was rich. Better Business Bureau does not help a person if they are in the wrong. BBB has an excellent reputation of fixing problems that companies think they can get away with. I have a problem when someone insists they know what goes on with my bills and what I agreed to be obligated to. In fact, just got my new bill and it is back to the agreed upon price so where in hell do you guys get that you are in the right and know my business or that of the others that posted against Direct TV? I didn't insist on 123321 getting into my business. That one felt it was her place-swears at others and her actions are justified. Should really mind own business and move on. Doesn't agree so be it. Needs to leave people alone. As long as she wants to keep this up I will too. Make the call.

You never answered as to why I did get my money back if I am the idiot and they are right. Talking out the ### is that why you are labeled on this site? I have nothing to admit to on reading contracts. Like I said if they are right and they have the right to increase why did I get my money back. You are the ignorant one. Update by K. Hannaford
Mar 31, 2011 12:49 am EDT

Maybe you should look up the definition of "contract" since you think you know so much about mine. I know what is in it and if I was wrong can you explain after making a complaint with the BBB why I got my overcharge back. You should only speak of things you know not what you think you do. And as to swearing-if the customer service level was where it should have been there wouldn't have been a problem. Customers shouldn't have to put up with belligerent employees that speak out of turn not knowing or having a clue. I know what comes out of my account and I know what I signed for a contract. Price is locked period. You are stupid to even comment on something you are so much ignorance on. Contract is an agreement between two parties for a specific service, dollar amount, and for a period of time. Duh to you!

Thanks for the fore warning concerning Direct TV- I am moving and I began to search out a new cable company, I use to have U-verse SBC, but it's not offered in the area that I'm moving in, so Direct Tv was one of the offers I was considering it because they offered no down payment but as the saying goes you pay for what you get, and therefore this is probably why I see so many complaints on line, never the less thanks again for steering me away from this company and saving me all the heartaches and anger, this is an awesome web sight, now when I'm getting ready to do anything concerning the internet I pay close attention to this site plus in other site with customer complaints, everyone usually doesn't have the same or similar complaint unless it is true.

DirecTV early termination billing.

Let first say direct tv customer service is the worst! I recently moved from my old house where i had direct tv as a provider for my tv. On febuary 26 i contacted direct tv and disconected my service. I was told that i had an early termination fee, which i was aware of but willing to pay. They istructed me that they would be billing me for 221.18. They also told me that they would be sending boxes via fedex to ship the receivers back i received the boxes and did exactly what it insturcted me to do. On march 10 i received a bill stating that i owed 105 and some change, i contacted direct tv and they told me dont worry about that bill that they would send me a updated bill with the full amount to disregard the 105 bill. I received the upodated bill on march 15, 11 for 221.18. It said due upon arrival. I pulled the check book out and paid the bill by the end of the week. On march 23 i received a bill saying paid in full nothing due. Today i was checking my bank account and they had debit my account for the 221.18 on march 19, 11 and had cashed the check that i had sent them on march 24, 11. I contacted direct tv and told them that i need my money back they instructed me that it would be six weeks at the earliest to receive my refund by mail. I have bills coming out of my account and they said nothing we can do sir. I am so pissed off right now i can hardly type. They instructed me if i had any over draft fees from this that they would pay it. They gave this fax number if anyone else can use it [protected], she said to include direct tv account number and a good number to be reached at and put attn: finance department. It pissses me off so bad that they can debit without authorization and then even deposit one of my checks and then they wont debit it back to my account. I hope this will help the next person shy away from them as a provider, they have the worst customer service. I have been a customer with them for over 6 years never late and i get short end of the stick . So plea to anyone please dont go with this provider to me customer service is a big thing to me and i hope it is to the nexzt person.

DirecTV suzanna - supervisor

Been with Direct TV over 2 1/2 years and it is terrible when you have to wait on the line for a supervisor for over an hour and not get good customer service nor incentives for being a valued customer, but it's amazing when they want your service they would do anything to get you but nothing to keep you... I was just displease with this supervisor nonchalant attutide ... the customer service rep was more pleasant than the supervisor Suzanna... WOW! I would not recommend Direct Tv...

I called direct tv in feb. To have m y service disconnected due to poor service, and my finances and they did not cut it off at that time but today I got this bill that said I was past due showed my prevs. Balance of $137.05 –showed a disconnect fee for $15.00 - showed an early cancellation fee for $300.00 for a total of $477.21.
Well I called the local office and explained to them I was never told there would be a early cancellation fee they said that it was in my contract well I don’t even remember getting a contract as this was done over the phone well they could not help me, so I looked up who the pres/ceo was got his phone # as [protected] called and some lady answer the phone I first asked for the ceo she said what could I do for you he is not in but if you have a problem that is my job.
Well I begin to explain to her what had happen that they had cleaned my bank acct out plus cost me a nsf fee as there was not enough money in bank for what they got I had already asked them several months ago not to take any more money out of my debit card and they agreed not too but they did, she said I am so sorry to hear that but let me see what I can do for you said can you hold, I said yes after a few minutes she came back to the phone and said sir I done some research on your acct and everything is on the up and up but I did notice where you called in feb to have it disconnected and they did not do it so I am going to refund $11.00 for that and I am going to refund the $15.00 disconnect fee since you did call in but as far as the $300.00 I cannot help you there as that is our company policy well some more things where said and she finally said that the only way we could refund the early cancellation fee would be if you reconnected back to direct tv I was happy about that I said could I go to a cheaper rate like the $29.95 rate and she said sure you could I saod ok let’s do that, she then said ok can you hold for a moment I said sure, so she came back a little later said that for them to do this that I would have to pay what is past due then this is where she started doing what they are trained to do: she said that since they have got the money that I will not have to pay anything to get reconnected and there would be a little money left over for future bills, then I said ok but the $300.00 plus would go back into my acct at the bank so my bills would get paid right she said no sir you will not be getting any money it will go into your direct tv acct then I got upset I said lady that does not help me one bit on what I am trying to do and I told her you know that I said I needed the money to go back into my acct for bills I had coming through she said sir I am sorry you misunderstood me, but, I said but nothing lady I did not misunderstand one single word then I told her you are playing the same games with me that all the direct tv complaint sites say about you guy’s then I told her lady my past due bill is only $137.05 if you take away that amount from the $396.00 you took out of my bank acct that would leave $259.00 that would be refunded back into my bank acct. Then she said sir you not understanding me you have a early cancellation fee, I said wait a minute lady you said you would waive that if I came back to direct tv, she said sorry sir you are so right but you also have a disconnect fee, I said wait a minute lady you said you would also waive that, she again you are right so I need to do some refiguring so she can back and said sir after refiguring everything you will have $86.00 credit on your direct acct. Listen to what she is saying here she is still trying to confuse me but I am hanging in there with her she then tries to say the last time she came back to the phone sir you are forgetting about the return of the equipment as soon as we get that you will then get about $180.00 back once we get that at our warehouse I then got very upset and I said lady will you please just take a breath and listen to what you just told me, I said you just told me that I owed for the equipment, well how would I owe for equipment if I was not going to return it as we both agreed that I was going to get reconnected she tried to get out of that but just got herself deeper in a hold, I said lady it is time for me to go I have been on this phone for over two hours with you and to break this thing down, I told you what I needed from you— you said the only way I could get it would be to come back and get reconnected—i agreed to do that, then you started putting me on hold while you spoke with your boss and or tried to figure out what to tell me next— each time it was something different— but to top it all off lady your finally attempt to screw me you tell me that I am owing you for equipment lady that blows my mind why would I owe you for something that we have agreed to reconnect she just said nothing then I just told her lady I tell you what I am going to give you my e-mail address and give you a chance to go to your boss man or who ever makes the finally decisions and get them to refund my money that you guy’s cleaned out my bank acct and now has me in very very deep crap or I can promise you that if I do not hear from you by this afternoon I will see an attorney tomorrow this is not a treat this is a promise. She said ok but we are not allowed to e-mail so I need a number to call you if we make a differ decision so I gave her my son’s number.

To All:
Direct TV wiped my bank account out in February, without any permission. I had been disconected 1 wk before
christmas and intended to pay the bill. Well in Feb no notice took 825 in fees out of my bank. No money left and bounced everything. No idea went to withdraw money for oil, guess what no oil and no heat in February. We had gotten about 4oo. back and the rest went to whatever charges. Anyway the bill is not in my name its in my husbands.
The bank card is how they felt it was ok to take my money. My previous bank has taken the money out of their visa and now we are back to owing 825. and no bank account for them to get into. Smart this time around. They called me
about 1 month ago and turne me off on April 2, claiming my bank took the money back. MY x Bank had the added feature to pay overdraft protection. Never paid any other over the limit charges. This one was a whopping 825. the bank states they have up to 6 months to repay me. I will not pay any one till solved.
Rip off, and the states need to address these issues of illegal usage of ones credit cards on file. Not to take money when they want to.

DirecTV credit dispute

Wow I see everyone has issues with direct tv - why are we letting them do this to us? Is the word not out that they cheat people. I can't believe they are still in business. Direct tv has been sending me "no payment due" billing statements for several months that say they owe me 32.75, when I called them and told them to send me the refund, there was some "mistery" charge that cost exactly what my refund should have been - wow imagine that! They of course will not refund my $$. They are bad business and I hope whoever is reading all these comments is smarter than I was and decides to purchase their tv entertainment service elsewhere.

DirecTV billing errors

I had been with directv for 10 years prior to moving to cox cable. During the 10 years I was never late on any payments and for which they expressed that I was a wonderful long term customer and they were sorry to see me go when I cancelled my service. Also, during this time I never had our phone line connected to the services so ppv services could not be ordered without directly contacting them via their on line ordering or via direct telephone conversation. I also had never in the entire 10 years ever ordered any pay per view services via their on line ordering or via phone. After I had cancelled my service I dutifully sent them back the 3 cards out of the receiver boxes. Upon receipt of my final bill I noticed 2 charges for ppv movies. I called them and they explained to me that it was for two movies from november 2002 and june of 2004 that was attempted to be accessed but they weren't viewed since there was no phone line attached to the receiver to be able to download the movie. They refused to remove the charges even though the transaction was never completed. Mind you that these charges are 7 years and 9 years past the date they were attempted to be accessed. All I have to say is beware to all directv customers; when you turn in your receiver cards you may have ppv access attempts saved onto your receiver cards that they will bill you for. Thankfully mine was for only two ppv the charges for which they can choke on.

After closing my account and returning my receivers Nov 2008 I was billed $9.99 for a pay-per-view from july 2007. Customer Service explained that the movie was saved on the access card and they fould it when I returned my equipment. Tere is no way I can research who ordered an ADULT movie from 18 months ago. The "call back" feature didn't work. If it had the item would have been billed the following month and I could have paid it or disputed it at that time. One and half years later makes it impossible. I was unable to speak to a supervisor and Directv refused to remove the item. There seems to be no other avenue to pursue correcting this. Directv is UNAVAILABLE .

First DirecTv offered rebated on First month bill in numerous areas of the agreement if you filed online which I did first day. First bill came no discount which I had to call and they said it would start on my second billing.( I expect at the end of the 12 months to be missing 1 month of discounts. When this happens I will sue).
Second billing scam was the service plan. Apparently after reading on the internet. DirecTv sends you a piece of junk mail after your first month automatically signing you up for a service plan. If you do not respond to the junk mail you are automatically billed. (By junk mail I mean it is not sent in any envelope or with a official bill, it looks like a pre purchase advertisement. As consumers we are not required to look at every piece of mail sent to us especially in this form). Took me two months of calls to get the credit back each time being told it was done but never was. Also they tried to only give me partial refund due to being covered under an agreement I never agreed to.
Third billing scam involved the 3 months of free HBO, Showtime, and Stars. I called twice in advance because I knew it was a scam cancelling the package early to ensure cancellation. Each time receiving a email confirmation. When the three months expired I was indeed billed (shocker), called again only to receive a partial months cancellation of $1.40 which I will not call to recover I will include it in my lawsuit.

Directv has been nothing but a pain since I started using them last year. Our building has a contract with them so I agreed to use them but after such a poor experience I'm about ready to drop them and use a local cable company instead. The most recent incident involves them offering me a 3 month free trial of showtime and charging me for the first "partial month". What a scam! These guys should be ashamed of themselves. I've called and submitted emails to their customer service department but they refuse to issue the credit. I guess free isn't free after all.

DirecTV auto payment change date

To get the special nfl package last fall I had to enroll in auto-pay. The past five statements I received had a due date of the 24th.In february I went on-line on the 16th and paid using a one-time payment option with a real credit card so my debit card would not be used. This was fine, no problem. My march statement showed no due date becuase they processed the auto-pay payment on the 10th, the same day they created my statement. After 3 phone calls, supervisor and manager request I learned that when I used the real credit card "on-time" they put it on-file as my auto-pay card. There was no due date because they said credit cards are charged in-advanced, debit cards processed 10 days before the next statement. How can this be right? How can they change the due date from one billing cycle to the next without any notice? I never authorized re-billing on the one-time card.

Dealing with the billing issues is one thing but the way I was treated was just a joke. I spoke with 2 csrs, one supervisor and one manager. No-one was authorized to make any changes to my account and the manager directed me to their "investor" section of the webpage where I could file a complaint with the president of the company. She (The last manger) said if I still have a problem, contact my credit card company and dispute the charge. I am so sorry I signed up with them for two-years!

DirecTV billed after account termination

I cancelled my direct tv account to switch to fios and had long since been finished with the two year contract. They then billed me $450 for the equipment eventhough I sent it back promptly. They admit they received it on time etc. And are giving me the run around about needing to wait 6 to 8 weeks for a refund. I've received two mails from them that say I have a credit of $450, but that is worthless to me because i'm no longer a customer of theirs because I switched to fios. Again, I was no longer under that initial two year contract because I had been a customer for about three years or so. I highly doubt that i'll recieve the refund when the 6 to 8 weeks have elapsed. This is ridiculous that I should have to wait this long to find out that they're just going to give me the run around again! Do not sign up with direct tv unless you never ever intend to cancel from them.

DirecTV unethical practices

I have been a Directv customer for nearly 10 years. However, after constant rate hikes and horrible customer service experiences, I decided to make a change.

I cancelled my Directv service in December. I was told by them that I would have to send back my leased receivers and that they would be sending boxes and pre-posted labels for me to do so. I received the boxes on Thursday, a full two months after cancelling my service. I was on vacation until Saturday, but planned to return the equipment today.

I was reconciling my bank account on Saturday and noticed a charge from Directv. They had debited my checking account for $750.00, without my knowledge.

I was concerned. So, I called customer service. They informed me that the charge was for the equipment that I had not returned. Apparently, they used the debit card on file that I used every month to pay my bill, to debit my account. I was told that part of my contract agreement allowed them to do so to cover unreturned equipment.

The boxes came on Thursday, but they debited my account on Friday.

I shipped the receivers first thing this morning. When I returned home I called customer service again to inform them that the equipment was on the way and that I would be expecting a complete refund. I was then informed that as soon as they received the shipment the refund would be processed. It would take about 6-8 weeks for me to get a check from them.

So, Directv has my $750, which I did not know they were taking. It took them one day to get the money, but it will take 6-8 weeks for me to get it back.

I moved from 9598 Cottonwood Dr, Howard City, MI 49329, in Nov 2009. I called DirecTV to transfer my account to the resident of the home, William J Fisher. I was told that both of us would need to be present to facilitate that request. On Feb 09, 2010...I called DirecTV as William Fisher was with me. He approved the transfer of the account into his name; I approved the removal of the account from my name. (This should have all been recorded by DirecTV as all conversations are now recorded.) This was completed by the agent that we spoke to at the time.

As of yesterday (05/10/2010)...I received a notice in the mail to pay a bill for DirecTV. (I haven't even had cable or satellite since 11/2009 because it is expensive.) As of 11/2009, William Fisher has been paying the bills for this service. I contacted DirecTV at 10:15pm on 05/10/2010. Initially I spoke to Tamika, a customer service rep. She told me that April 19, 2010, William Fisher called and transferred this account back to my name and opened "his own" account. This was without my consent or knowledge. She proceeded to tell me that because we were never married, this account should never have been authorized into his name.

Due to the inability of DirecTV’s representatives...I am now being penalized, having to pay a $140.00 bill, $60.00 disconnect fee, and $250.00 + taxes for high definition boxes. I spoke to a "supervisor" named Shawn. He refused to even acknowledge that his company had done anything wrong...1) by permitting William and I to transfer this account from myself to he and/or 2) for permitting William to transfer this account back into my name without my consent or knowledge.

So, 3 months after the approval of the transfer of the name on the DirecTV account, DirecTV decides that they have done something wrong. Without cause or notice, DirecTV permits William Fisher to transfer his account into my name, thereby causing me alarm and undue stress.

I have not resided at the address of 9598 Cottonwood Dr, Howard City, MI 49329 since 11/2009. This account was transferred correctly with a DirecTV rep on 02/09/2010 into William Fisher's name with both of our consents. The account was then transferred back into my mane on 04/19/2010 without my consent. DirecTV has really shady business ethics and practices.

I too had nothing but problems with Direct TV! I lived in the northern US, and everytime it would storm, rain, or snow, the satellite would go out all day. One day on a clear Friday afternoon, the satellite went out yet again for the umpteenth time. I called their office in Dallas, TX and was told that my "smart card" in the reciever box was bad. They however would send me out a new one on MONDAY! MONDAY? MONDAY? Duh! this was a friday, so I had to go without tv for the whole weekend! I was major pissed. As soon as my contract with them was done I cancelled. If I had cancelled early, then they would have socked my bank acct for who knows how much due to erly termination. Be sure to read the fine print with these guys! As soon as I could cancel, I did, and signed up with DISH Network, and have had NO problems at all.

Anyone wishing to actually speak to someone is the Presidents Office, Mike White, they need to call [protected] and don't push any buttons. Just wait...it may take a few minutes for someone to actually answer the phone at the Main Switch Board, but if you're like I, a few more minutes as opposed to the endless hours I've spent being jerked around by the uneducated, ignorant, and rude call center operators as well as their Extremely Rude Call Center Supervisors from all over the world, a few more minutes will be a welcome change. O.K. any ways, wait until a switchboard operator answers then ask to speak to: "THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT" which is Mr. Mike White. Now although Mr. Mike White's office is actually in the corporate headquarters in California, and you're being routed to Idaho, the call center you're going to be connected to is actually the call center for "The Office Of The President!" The person who answers the phone is a call center agent, and has quite a bit of authority . But as with any employee they too have a supervisor. I had the great pleasure of speaking with a Wonderful, Kind, and EXTREMELY Helpful girl named Dacia. She was extremely apologetic and immediately handled all my concerns. Just out of pure shock that it was so easy..I asked to speak with her supervisor, who happened to be, Lauren just to check that everything Dacia just informed me was accurate. It was all as stated, and again I thanked her as well. Now by pure sheer endlessness persistence of calling dozens of numbers after dozens of numbers from their directory and asking hundreds of literally hundreds of people for such an office, I finally stumbled, again by pure luck or persistence, upon the correct number [protected] and was sent right over to the proper place. Just to make certain that it wasn't a one time fluke and that it would never happen again, I tried calling the number again and again and asked for the "Office Of The President" and each time I got an operator at the Office Of The President! So Good Luck and I Truly Hopes This Helps!

DirecTV criminals

While living in atlanta ga I subscribed to directv hd service. Probably around 2002 or 2004. I paid out of my own pocket for 3 standard definitions directv receivers, 1 directv hd receiver and 1 hd dish and triple lnb with mounting hardware. From the beginning I had problems with the hd part of my service. First I was told that it was never ordered. With continued problems receiving the hd channels I contacted a local satellite installer. They came out and checked over the directv installers work and said the aim of the dish was not right for hd. They said that the design of the dish was not really very good to capture signals from the 3 satellites required for complete service. They re-aimed it best they could. No reliable hd service and regular sd service that would pixilated freeze and go out on cloudy days, during cold weather and never hd.

I put up with it for a little over a year. Then I cancelled my service. When I did directv sent me a bill for over $200 for canceling. I pleaded with them that they never actually delivered to the terms of my contract in that they never actually provided me hd service and the sd was substandard.
They rejected my claim and proceeded to try and collect the cancellation fee. They said I had not called the service folks enough times to convince them that the service was really bad. I told them to consider that I had paid over $600 out of my pocket for all of the directv equipment and why would I cancel service and loose my investment in all that worthless hardware if I did not have to because of no hd?
They never replied and continued to try and collect. I sent them the serial numbers of the receivers and said if they pay me for them I would pay them their cancellation fee. No response. Ultimately the bill has been sold to 3 different collection agencies. I continue to inform each of the situation.

Bottom line: directv sucks. Its policies suck. Their people suck. The epitome of rotten customer service. An example of raping of the consumer.

When I purchased my home there were 6 rooms with working cable outlets. We decided to have Directv installed. All seemed to be OK. Later I had financial problems and had to cut back. I dropped my Directv service. A year later I decided to go with a basic package from our local cable company. The only working cable outlet in the house was now in a bedroom. The cable installer showed me the wireing all through the attic sliced to pieces. I would understand that Directv would have to splice into existing wiring to add their equipment. I paid for the install and service. I did not pay to have the other existing wiring in my home sliced and mutalated. I now have to pay my local cable company to come out and rerun all the wiring in order to get any service. I contacted Directv but they will not assist by recalbing themselves or paying the bill to have it done. I still feel they are responsible for fixing this. If a person came to my home and was destructive I would press criminal charges and they would have to pay. I am now pursuing this with Dircetv.

DirecTV unauthorized charge of credit card

Beware! My friend didnt have a credit card and asked me to pay her direct tv bill and she would pay me cash. I selected the one time payment option. Months later her service was cancelled and she had an outstanding balance. Because they had my credit card info on file they charged my card without my consent. I am still fighting this but it didnt matter that my card was not even the name on the account they still said they had the right. If this isnt fraud i dont know what is!

You can try to dispute the charge all you like with your bank. Direct TV stipulates that in bold print, that "your credit card information is kept on file for your convenience." Though convenient it is certainly not. You think your bank would protect you from such unauthorized debits, but in fact, they do not so long as the debtor is providing a confirmation code. So basically there is nothing to stop anyone who has your credit card information from debiting funds fraudulantly from your account. Thank deregulation in America. It's not the land of the free and home of the brave. It's the white collared crooks paradise. Sorry Laura777, but like you, me and thousands of others that Direct TV and other several corporate monsters who rip off their consumers, they've forced us to take it up the duff with no vaseline.

DirecTV took balance out of my bank account without my authorization

We had been customers of Directv for years and repeatedly had billing problems with them. They always had fees added on to make our bill more than we agreed to pay, and I don't mean because we were ordering movies or doing anything to justify it. We remained customers even though we did not like their service or practices because they have the rights to NFL Ticket and we are big football fans. Well this year we finally had enough and decided we were going to try cable instead and give them a try. We never agreed knowingly to them having authorization at anytime to deduct money from our account. I always had to give authorization for my online payments all along. Well, when we changed to cable about a couple of weeks later I went to do some online banking and noticed they took the FULL balance they SAY we owe of $241.62. Never called to inquire if there was funds to cover that. They just decided I had the extra money out of our fixed income. I went to the bank after trying to talk to Directv and getting nowhere, and they informed me that they had other complaints about Directv doing that to other people. Apparently in the fine print they give themselves the authorization to take money from your account if you fall behind on bill or decide to leave them. I don't know how this can be legal! How do they know I have that kind of money to spare. I planned on paying on my balance as I could afford. Please think twice before doing business with them. If you do then at least don't give them your banking information or pay online as they keep it saved so they can do this to people. Get one of those money cards that can be used as a credit card and you keep whatever balance you want on it. That way they only have access to the amount you are willing to and can afford to pay.

They did the same thing to me. THey took all of my money, bounced my mortgage check, and left me so far in the hole I will never dig my way out. Apparently if you EVER pay by debit or credit they keep this info and use it for their benefit. You also give them a card number when you sign up, which they tell you is for something else. This company is the biggest ripoff in the world and they care nothing for their customers. BEWARE! It may be too late.

DirecTV not really whole home

Since aug. 2010 direct tv has promised us the use of the all famous whole home system. Beware, it is really not whole home. You have have one dvr and recievers in each bedroom. They told me that my boys could watch their recorded shows at the same time in their bedrooms. They cannot. After months of calling in, long evenings on hold and numerous e-mails and phone calls they finally tell me tonight that only one other reciever can watch a recorded show at a time. I have been paying a monthly fee for the whole home service all this time and nothing, it will not work. They will do nothing for me, no partial refunds, no offers, nothing to help soothe the situation. I tried to explain to him we have had 3 installation people out here and they have all promised the whole home and watching recorded shows at the same time in each bedroom. They will not budge. Their commercials are misleading and do not advertise as promised. They should be sued for false advertisement and leading on the public. I am furious right now and I never had these problems with dish network. They are downright rude to me. I do not recommend the supposed whole home system to anyone. It is a lie and decieving, save your time and money and go with dish network.

DirecTV - scam

Direct Tv Watch out if you cancel service! Internet I had Direct TV satellite service for almost 10 years. I cancelled service for a less-expensive tv service on March 17th. When I cancelled, the cus.service agent advised me of a $100 cancellation fee (which was fine because my new tv provider was giving me that $ to switch to them). I had a $12 credit on...

DirecTV misrepresentation, unjustified rate increase

On January 15 2011, I contacted DirecTV satellite services to review my account. The purpose was to determine whether to continue service with this company after having been a customer in good standing since 2003.
Disclosing that I was considering switching to another television service provider (cable/satellite) if I could not receive similar offered/advertised services from DirecTV, that others were offering, a verbal offer was made by the customer service agent, as follows:
1. swap out of a standard receiver with an HD-DVR receiver for 0.00 (I agreed to pay a delivery and handling fee of $19.50 + $1.50 tax to total $21.50 before the end of the call by credit card)
2. free DVR service for 12 months if I agreed to a 24 month service agreement and kept at least 2 receivers active on my account for an additional 12 months
3. free professional installation
4. maintain my current pricing plan with no increase in my monthly billing fee for 24 months unless after 12 months I opted to continue receiving DVR service at which point I would be charged an additional $7/month; if I opted to not receive DVR service, I would be required to send back the HD-DVR receiver and continue to have, at least, 2 receivers active for the duration of the service agreement (12 more months)

Once the details of the verbal agreement were stipulated, I asked that this be emailed to me for confirmation. Upon receipt of the email, I agreed to the "Terms and Conditions" (Exhibit B) that were available, as instructed by the DirecTV representative, by direct hyperlink in the email under "Other Important Details To Remember", "terms and conditions of your order", "as stated in your agreement" (see exhibit A)

On January 20, 2011, the installation was performed and my wife, who was not privy to the verbal stipulations, and the "Terms and Conditions" agreement, signed what she believed was merely a confirmation that the installation had been completed to her satisfaction. She also agreed to the inclusion of a "service contract" that was "free for the first 30 days."

Dispute:
As stated above, the final point of the contract/agreement was that there would be no increase in my monthly service charge. However, upon receipt of the February statement of charges for services from DirecTV, the DVR service had not been credited and an additional $1 was added to all receivers active in my home. The previous months bill (January 2011) was $86.93 and February's bill is $100.29, an increase of $13.36.
Obviously, the terms of the agreement we not respected and institued by DirecTV. If I had not reviewed the bill before my wife paid it, I believe that DirecTV would have interrupted this as a binding agreement through payment of services.

I contacted DirecTV customer service (800-DirecTV) by telephone. I spoke with a customer service agent (CSR), a supervisor (Ashley), and finally a manager (Dennis) in an attempt to reconcile the discrepency.
Ultimately, after some very heated dialogue, numerous long periods on holds, transfers, and lengthy explanations, I was able to get the agents and the manager to agree that the DVR service was to be credited for 12 months, that the service contract was not part of the original contract thus had to be removed, and that I reserved the right to cancel the DVR service at the end of the first 12 months as stipulated in the verbal conversation notes (only within DirecTV receipt but confirmed as existent by the DirecTV agents) and the "Terms and Conditions" received and reviewed by email on January 15, 2011.

However, what remains in dispute is the increase in the monthly "Fee" for additional receivers that increased from $5/month to $6/month. Both Ashley and Dennis, state that per the "Customer Agreement" found on the DirecTV website the company reserves the right to increase fees at any time. They also stated that notifications had been sent to customers about the rate increase. However, when I asked for them to reproduce that notification they could not and one stated that it was sent out over 2 months ago and another stated probably 2-3 weeks ago. When queried as to why this rate increase was not disclosed upon my negotiating of a new "Service Agreement" I was told, "well, we can go to lunch and when we come back things have changed". I spent a considerable amount of time reviewing old DirecTV emails I received to see if there was any containing a notification of a rate increase to no avail. Regardless, since no disclosure or representation of fees were introduced into the agreement by the original CSR, I argued that what ever increases occurred were not legal since we had negotiated a contract and agreement which clearly stipulated that there would be no changes i.e., additional charges, applied to my bill. Dennis argued that the Customer Agreement clearly states that the company reserves the right to increase its fees; I argued that the contract was null and void. He stated that I could cancel the service at which point I asked, "and how much will I be charged?" Dennis stated that per the Customer Agreement the company had the right to charge up to $480 however he was willing to take partial accountablility for the lack of clarity between what was sent to me in email, and via hyperlink within that email, and the DirecTV website Customer Agreement. For this disrepency, he would only charge me $5/month for twelve months and then $6/month thereafter for additional receivers. Understanding that this would be considered a "settlement of the dispute", I declined the offer.

Please assist me and the many other "customers" enslaved by DirecTV through these one-sided binding agreements. Fair and ethical practice establishes trust and a culture of justness. It is obvious that DirecTV uses decepetive, false, and misleading business practices. In addition, DirecTV forces its CSR's, Managers, and Supervisors, as well as it "Professional Installers" to commit collusion; the only time customers sign documents is after the installation is completed, not before, as stipulated as necessary in California contract law (http://www.lectlaw.com/files/bul15.htm). These documents contain "fine print" that attempt to nullify any and all previous agreements except the ones that benefit DirecTV and its affiliates. The signing of these documents is misrepresented as only to "certify that the installation was completed to the customers satifaction, " when in reality the document is much more. The document to be binding must include the stipulation of all previous verbal and written agreements,

"1623. Where a contract, which is required by law to be in writing, is prevented from being put into writing by the fraud of a party thereto, any other party who is by such fraud led to believe that it is in writing, and acts upon such belief to his prejudice, may enforce it against the fraudulent party." (http://www.lectlaw.com/files/bul15.htm)

Complaints need to be lodged with the US Attorney General to investigate DIRECTV and their business practices, deceptions, fraud, and Record keeping practices. Amazing how a company starts off well, makes their money and than screws their customers.

DirecTV unauthorized charged to debit card

I have just had an unauthorized debit charge to my account by Direct TV. I have made several attempts to reasonably resovle this situation but no help. This has got to be the most unreasonable and unwilling company i have ever dealt with and I just wonder how they are allowed to do this kind of thing. My bill was $378.00 and they took $822.00. Now i am at there mercy and can only hope they will return the remained when they recieve there equipment. They have completely drained my account and any payments previously made will surely find insuffiant funds.

This happened to me too. I responded to the $180 Costco Cash Card promotion by committing to a two year Direct TV service agreement. I was told the card would be sent to the address on my account. I called today to check the status and am now being told I am not eligible for the promotion and the Direct TV representative says I didn’t sign up for Direct TV through Costco.com. This bait and switch is only part of the problem I have had with Direct TV and Costco. The sales rep told me I would be abloe to get 2 HD (non DVR) receivers for a certain monthly price and I found out it was completely false only after the installation tech arrived. They also made false promises about the internet bundling with thier partner Centurylink. NOW I am being told I am not eligible for the $180 Costco Cash Card BUt I should wait 2-4 more weeks for it to arrive. I'm not kidding. They want me to sitt around using paying for their services for 2-4 more weeks for a promotion that I was promised and that I dont qualify for. They also say a cant cancel because I signed up for two years.

Directv is HORRIBLE! I can't believe a national company treat their customers in such total disregard. I ordered Directv thorugh COSTCO. Directv offers a $180 Costco gift card if you order through Costco. The tech came out to install it. The whole-house DVR thing is also screwy! I asked the tech if I would be able to watch recorded shows with the standard receiver. He said no, you need an HD receiver. He said he had one on his truck, but it cost $99 extra. That is misleading...their advertising says whole house dvr! So, relunctally I agreed. He called into Directv to advise them of the change in receivers. The rep. takes my credit card then tells me that I have a new account number. Later on I got a call from Directv automated call survey (automated...like they really care enough to have a live person call). After the survey, I pressed the option to speak to a live person. I asked the person about them changing my account number and if it would interfere with my $180 Costco gift card. He said I no longer qualify for it! OMG! You have go to be kidding me. What a scam! I was so mad, I called several time trying to figure out what happened. I got the run around. It is apparent that Directv is a first class scam artist. The funny thing is the tech who installed the equipment, told me to go online asap and apply for the rebates for the discounts they offer. He said if you wait a few days, Directv will not give it to you. Then you are stuck paying the full price. Now, one would think, if you enter into a promotion, you would just get the promotion. Not directv...you actually have to go online to apply the promotion. Another way to trick up their customers and not give them what they promised. Well, after 2 hours on the phone with the run around on my gift card, I was ticked off! My first few hours with Directv and I knew it was a BAD company with horrible customer service! I wanted out! I called and asked the cancellation dept. if we have a three day cancellation period. She said in California we have 24 hour. I said cancel it now! Of course, they try to keep you. I said what about my Costco $180 gift card...her reply...I have no control over that. Obviously, the employees have zero autonomy! Enough said! I cancelled. I send them an email as well as Costco. Directv sends me an email reply back that they are sorry, then proceed to tell me early termination fees will be applied to my credit card! They already show a credit charge to my card for the first month...this was done after I cancelled. BEWARE if you want to use them! They are a scam artists!

See NEED HELP IN FL...posted 2/15/11...Accounting practices of Direct TV need to be audited because they exploit their customers...and accept no responsibility for fiding and correcting ANY accounting errors..we need to band together...there has to me more of us...then we can seek an advocate to bring this to light...or at that point, perhaps an attorney will come forth to seek a class action against them. In the interim, please write to the Office of the President, Direct TV, PO Box 6550, Greenwood Village, CO 80155. Accurately, in detail, explain what happened, ask for assistance, and advise the president you are going to unify with other customers who have been harmed by them...AND follow through with it...find others who have experienced this...thru networking we can unite and have a ligitimate case...if everyone reports in complete honesty...as it happened...also, when calling Customer Service ALWAYS ask for the ID # of the rep...and name...up your complaint to the Customer Service Supervisor...get his name and ID as well to include in your documentation of your problem...they are supposed to have the recordings of these conversations..and these recordings need to be exposed...don't stop here...help fight the problem.

I just had them steal $857.00 from my bank sometime yesterday. I only found out when my banks fraud department contacted me about the large charge to my account. It threw my account over $550.00 into the negative. We have filed with the bank to reverse the charges and I have already filed a complaint with my state (Michigan) Attorney General. I would highly suggest you follow up with your state about this. They are nothing better than crooks. I told them I refused to pay the bills they were sending, because I had canceled my service due to faulty equipment and billing (bundle deal) issues. But since I am under "contract" they felt it was alright to charge my debit card with no warning of their intention to do so. Please call your state AG, since Directv is in deep water with the courts over these things already.

DirecTV not honoring contract

They said the deal we agreed on was not valid. I did not use the initial "vouchers" Said they sent the information via e-mail (which was not my address) and said they sent the info in the mail which I did not receive. So they are charging me the full monthly payment, instead of the $19.95 we had agreed on. When I finally told them to get their stuff out of my house, they said they would send me a box with complete instructions on what to send them. This was a month ago and like the vouchers I have not received it. I paid my $19.95 every month but they still say I owe them the full amount. I have not complied with their wishes, and they will not talk to me reasonably. This deal was made with our phone company and I just found out that they initially pay the fee to Direct TV. The phone company is being very patient and understand the dilema. thank you, Judie Corcoran

DirecTV forced to upgrade to hdtv

Here in Michigan if your standard receiver goes bad and you have to get another receiver you MUST ugrade to HDTV even if you do not have a HDTV. You cannot get a standard receiver, they will not allow it. I have been a customer for over 20 years but not anymore. When a company tells you that you have to have a certain T.V to get their service then obviously they do not need my business. How about yours. I am now a DISH convert

DirecTV credit ruined by their representatives lying to us to make the sale

We subscribed to Directv sattelite service fro 2years the fall of 2006. ayear later the wife wanted a DVD Recorder added to our service. I said to her ok if they don't extend the conract as she wanted to move to Phx. AZ tobe near her new grnd.son there. When she called the rep. said no i would not increase the contract time, I was sceptical so I got on the phone and asked the same question, same answer, I got. At the end of 24 mo. we called Directv to come get their stuff and they said we had to take it to Az for another 2 years, or pay $287 early term. fee. We ignored this threat and sure enough we had a collection item on my credit reportin a month. We disputed the item by telling the truth that Directv lied to us and refused to pay the extra fee. So after lots of writing and complaining to the BBB, FTC, STATE OF VA. & AZ ( GOT NO WHERE AS USUAL) AND 8 MONTHS OF PAYING LEXINGTON LAW, a big fee got rid of their credit ruin, Then 6 months later Directv would sell it to another Boiler room Operation to harras us. Got that one disputed and 3 years later we just got another credit alert directv did another Credit ruin on my credit file. So beware of Direct tv. I would not use them if they were the only way to watch any TV. I would do with out. I just signd up with a service that sues these kind of companies that harrass people over and over again like Directv has done to us! I hope we can win a big Law Suit against Directv to/and make them stop with the credit scams the have done 3 times with us on the same thing. But ti's the principle with me
