DirectBuy - scam, scam, fraud

Stay away from this company. Everybody is so nice to you during the presentation and up until the time you sign the contract. By the way the contract is 5000, I repeat 5000. When you sit with sales person they seem to forget to tell certain things about the membership, but you can overhear another sales rep telling somebody else something different.
Be aware that you will be responsible for all freight, shipping, and sales tax, which I was not told. Also, you will be told if you dont join now, you will not be able to join later. Take my advice and don't bother to even appear for the presentation. Also, after you sign up the staff is very nasty. I have filed a complaint with the bbb and currently will be submitting a copy of the recordings I taped with the attorney general office.

I was fast-talked into buying a membership at $136 a month. One of my jobs was cut and so I was trying to cancel my membership and I was told 'tough-you signed the sheet that says no canceling'. I have tried their membership number only no have no one ever pick it up after 9 rings. I can't pay my bills and I refuse to pay them, as their so called lower prices I have beaten in store 3 times so far. I am following legal action now and urge everyone one DONT BUY A MEMBERSHIP!

UCC aka Direct buy was a scam many years ago. My husband and I joined the one in Elmsford NY. We are suburbanites and were redecorating our home in Larchmont, NY.
We went to one of their so called "meetings" which was held in a classroom type setting. FIRST OF ALL .. they never tell you there is nothing in the show rooms! Just freakin catalogs, all messed up with pages torn out. YOU learn this after you sign the contracts. The owners name was JUNE another fast talking scam artist who worked along side her husband Larry. After paying a very high membership fee of about 1, 500.00 we then paid about 100.00 bucks per year to remain members. Back in the 80's and 90's this was very high. But thinking about the 50% discount they promised us, it seemed like a good deal. Our sales persons name was CHANCE.. ironic we took the chance with him. After ordering items for a few years, we come to realize all the help was rude and no one wanted to actually help you in the office. The show room had a lot to be desired with the torn up catalogs and cheap tables and chairs to seat you while you thumb through mountains of books. All in alphabetical order, I might add. NONE of the items actually turned out to be 50% off at any time. Plus there are hidden fees on top of your order. They also had a horror show in the pick up or stock room. What a mess, half the time your stuff was lost in that fire trap. A horror. Anyone wanting more info please contact treeetwoone@msn.com I can fill you in further. I would love to know where larry and june ended up. When we joined, our check was cashed within just a few hours... and it was done and cleared within less than 24 hours. How can that be? Its a first for me. This place has to be shut down by now I am sure. I hope they arrested all of them. It was done just like a cult. Sad for me... they are probably all still laughing at us!

A scam can be defined as an attempt to intentionally mislead another person with the goal of financial gain.

This company changes its name frequently because of a poor consumer record. It was formerly known as UCCTotalHome & UCC and is now Direct Buy to hide the previous poor consumer record.

There are many online reports on both companies regarding their poor consumer record. Look up 'direct buy scam' on any search engine.

Since you are reading this you probably don't know much about how a company like this does business.

A company with a dubious product or service for sale (like this one) will attempt to use coercive persuasion to make you buy. This may be a 'fear of loss' technique (you will not be able to tour the showroom and check prices again for 7 years if you don't sign-up today) or 'power close' techniques to 'intimidate' you into buying. Remember, they have nothing to lose ... they will not see you again if you don't buy 'today' so they are liable to try anything that might 'close the sale' with your personality type.

Time share is sold this way and some health club memberships because so many people drop out and don't use their memberships. They are really just selling 'time' to use their facility ... they have virtually no additional expenses when you join.

The contract, which no attorney would ever let you sign, is so one sided that it is patently fraudulent, in my opinion. But since you cannot take it home to review it ... most people who do join based on hype and inaccurate claims, find themselves holding a document that gives them virtually nothing for their money.

They are selling the equivalent of a SAMS CLUB or Costco membership for thousands!

Personally, I can find better deals than SAMS or Costco normally on the internet (that deliver to my home, not a warehouse) so DirectBuy selling for thousands is a total RipOff!

You are paying for a 'buying club' that gives almost no service, has prices that can be beat by almost any discount retailer. They hide behind a clever contract that gives you no rights to contest anything.

They are only in business because of gullible people that they can intimidate.

Beware, they employ a large in house complaint response team to counter 'real' actual consumer complaints published in various blogs.

AVOID! If it were a good, decent company they would be happy to let you try it for a month for free and then pay monthly.

But if they did that no one would pay their price.

I am awaiting a class action trial as my membership is from 2007. Hopefully, we'll all have a favorable outcome. Since your membership was only a couple of days ago, you should go onto complaintwire.org and follow Trudy's instructions. She's been successful in helping people get their money back. Always send written correspondence registered mail.
