Darin Michael Smith purchased farm land in Los Tambos, Cayo District, Belize, Central Amercia.
He did not complete the laws of Belize in that he created a subdivision, put up a website and lured sales knowing full well he did not meet with the laws of Belize. The first owners were threatened and intimidated and forced to leave one by one. He has resold said properties and as of December, 2014, the owners fold discrepancies and started investigating the property and Darin M. Smith. It was through the Belize Title and Land Department that said property shows the only owner is Darin M. Smith and used as agricultural land thus the taxes are paid for such. Darin M. Smith lied from the beginning and never disclosed the truth of the land or developed a safe road way and other objects per the Belizean land laws. After a homeowner pays the land/cabin in full, he gives them a "Quick Claim Deed" knowing full well that the Belizean government does not recognize such a document however he homeowners take said document because it at least gives them some comfort to their said claim again the land which is Titled to Darin M. Smith. After being confronted, he now slanders, lies, threatens and tells those that are against him to leave. The owners living full time at Biospharms wants this resolved in a legal way as per the sales of each homeowner.

Darin, please contact me in regards to the property of Ralph Richard and Barbara Lanaux in your community in Belize. Ralph has passed away, so expect communication from several attorneys. I hope you have documents proving joint ownership, as you know I also purchased solar panels, appliances, and furniture. I can keep you posted from Florida, as I am getting info from others involved. I would appreciate any help. Thanks and take care. Contact me at barblanaux@gmail.com or [protected]

I, Veronica Poirier, and my husband John Michael Poirier, through court appointed mediation, have come to a binding, confidential agreement with Darin Michael Smith and his agents of BIOSPHARMS, INC. And at this juncture, are no longer pursuing our claim against Mr. Smith and BIOSPHARMS, Inc. and it's agents in Belize.

I, Jeremiah Allen, have settled my legal dispute with Darin M. Smith and Biospharms Inc. via court appointed mediation on July 28th, 2016. Darin has agreed to complete the subdivision as demanded in my claim. I am pleased with this outcome, and I have renewed optimism concerning the future of the community. My lawsuit has thus been dropped, and we anticipate receipt of our land certificate within a matter of months. I wish to thank everyone for their continued prayers and well wishes as we advance our adventure in Belize.

U.S. criminals try to hide in foreign countries and it appears there are some here, who prefer spending their time complaining about those who are not criminals. These unfounded complaints against Darin M. Smith (whom I know personally) are nothing more than bitter revenge on him and his beautiful family. This attempted character-assassination is being bankrolled by a disgruntled non-resident, and John Michael (do your own background search on him) who is the acting ringleader, making personal-and-online threats, who's wife has left him (yet he continues to make complaints in her name) while instructing his "cult" followers to do the same! I urge you come to Belize & see for yourself, meet both parties in question, before listening to the rantings of a few angry, self-medicating, losers who will never be able to find happiness in this world or beyond.

My wife and I are currently residents of the community known as Biospharms. We have had dealings with Mr. Darin Smith regarding our purchase and the construction of our home and have no complaints. Our home was built exactly to our specifications. The design was ours and Mr. Smith and his team built to the design. Others on this thread have complaints of one sort or the other. We, however, have no complaints, so just know that some are happy while others are not.

For those that insist the Smiths are faultless on the charges brought against them then, I ask you this...why would someone go public and stand to be sued for slander and liability?

Perhaps those not involved should sit back and hear both sides of the story before making off the wall comments that do not involve them.

You can see what is being said first hand if you want to start opening your eyes.

IF this does not go directly to the Biospharms report...slide the bar to about 43:21 to see. https://vimeo.com/156787569#t=2601s

Thank you

We are unified group of full and part-time buyers of the 'Biospharms' Inc. Christian community, in Los Tambos in the Cayo District of Belize. Since 2010 buyers have come and gone. All came for the same thing buying into the vision that Darin Smith described - an "Acts like Christian community”, affordable, self-sustaining and organic. A small handful has stayed full time. The common denominator was Christian community, and owning our little slice of tropical paradise with Belize sanctioned contracts and documents. Over time each of us has discovered, often through great resistance – that Darin Smith owns the entire 43 acre property personally, “Biospharms Inc.” of Fort Myers, Florida denies any connection, and that Darin Smith never subdivided the land as presented in maps, boundary markings, and laminated plot plans. We also discovered from the Lands Authority and attorneys, that all of our documents were fraudulent. Many over the past 6 years have left with that discovery, despite losing money that was not returned, only to have their homes re-sold.

We were loathe, as Christians to hire attorneys; Mr. Smith counted on this. Having exhausted all other means, WE are now 8 plaintiffs, (so far) suing Mr. Smith as defendant, in the Belize courts to perform, and to prevent further sales in the un-subdivided 'Biospharms' community so that more innocent people are not deceived. If successful, our hope is for refunds to those who lost so much, and a completed subdivision. Those few residents who are happy with the current arrangement should not feel threatened by what we are doing, as it will benefit them as well to be legally recognized. We were all charged a huge premium so that Mr. Smith could do a proper, approved, legal subdivision. This should not be a difficult task. All we ask is that Mr. Smith do things legally as promised and then leave us alone to live our lives peacefully and without the constant gossip, slander, and dividing that has been done to us. We ask you to realize – that there are 2 sides to every story, that we are doing all we can to bring justice and that if history is any indication, all will come out eventually.

I must say these claims of biospharms and darin smith being frauds and scams are completely uncalled for and their reasons unjustified, if people would take the time to actually talk to Mr. Smith and learn of both sides of the story then perhaps they would see what is actually going on. I know Darin and his family personally and they are some of the most kind hearted genuine people trying to help the children and people of belize and these fraudulent complaints are completely uncalled for as well as causing them and the people around them extreme amounts of worry and stress. Please I implore of you to seek out and talk to Mr. Smith before accepting these negative reviews.

I learned of the so-called Christian community "Biospharms" on their website in April of 2014. I made contact with the developer, Darin Smith on April 22nd, 2014. Darin and I exchanged dozens of emails as I inquired about the possibility of leaving the western world and moving to the Belizean countryside for a simpler life with my wife and two school aged children. Darin was very helpful and charming, and we even spoke on Skype on a couple of occasions to discuss all of the details. We decided to make a visit to the property in May 2015 and see for ourselves whether or not Biospharms was a legitimate option for us to consider.

We arrived in Belize for a short 3-day tour of the area and Darin showed us around Biospharms and the wider community as well. There were five other homes occupied full time at that time, and we met with and enjoyed getting to know four of them. They seemed happy with their living situation on Biospharms and so we felt very comfortable making the decision to buy a 0.6 acre lot with a custom build 900sqft cabin for 58, 700USD. Darin stated that he was setting things up legally and our ownership (via “quit-claim deed”) was “just as good as a title”.
The first few months we spent at Biospharms were a joy, the community had fairly good relationships, and we were starting to truly love one another as a family. However, during our regular meetings, we started pressing Darin for more information regarding the legal structure of the development, and what progress was being made towards a permanent legal structure for the land ownership. At that time (August 2014), the land was titled as a single parcel in Darin’s own name. We also discovered that the quit-claim deeds that he was giving to owners after full payment were not even signed by him (the owner), but by his father. Within a few months after fact was exposed, he rewrote the quit-claim deeds and signed them himself, as they should have been in the first place. But that is far from the end of the story.

In November 2014, we had a meeting where nearly all of the full-time owners met and discovered Darin was no longer considering seriously pursuing a legal subdivision, but rather had decided (unilaterally) to place the entire development into a trust. Immediately many of us started voicing concerns about this proposed legal structure. We (with several others) began demanding that Darin complete the subdivision and supply us titles for our individual lots. Darin has been saying ever since that he is working on it, that he is waiting for bureaucratic red-tape. However, we have checked with the government offices responsible for these actions, and they report that he has never even filed an application for subdivision (the first step in the process).

As time moves on, we have learned that before we moved to the property in 2014, there had been a trail of at least eight (8) other clients who bought into Biospharms, felt manipulated and deceived, and questioned Darin’s methods. Each one (facing Darin on their own) was made to feel intimidated, discouraged, and even scared, and ended up leaving Biospharms at severe financial loss. Right now, there are seven (7) current owners who have filed lawsuits in Belize over the matter. We are all hoping to get things resolved as peacefully as possible, however, Darin is so manipulative and deceptive, we have all lost complete trust and faith in him. This seems to be the only viable course of action.
I am writing this report in an effort to help others avoid the problems so many have already faced at Biospharms. Darin seems to want strife and dissension, and is constantly spreading nasty rumors about his “enemies” in order to destroy their reputations, and in order to tear down their spirits. However, the seven who are currently fighting this scam in the legal channels are standing strong and we will see this through. The problem is, that Darin is still trying to con more people into buying lots, increasing the resources available to him for fighting us legally.
Please be warned, if you are looking for a nice, low-priced retreat, with the benefits Darin claims of Biospharms, KEEP LOOKING….this is not the solution for you. God bless you all.

We have lived in Belize for 3 yrs. We know this man and almost bought into his lies. We are friends with those who are not still blind to his manipulation. We have seen lives damaged by this man and it hasnt stopped. He has illegally disconnected an owners water and refuses to allow it to reconnected. Those who pretend it is a lovely place are liars. We know first hand and don't advise anyone to buy from him. These people are stuck with a property they can't legally sell because they have no deed. He is so charming and deceitful. So many have been misled cause he uses the Bible against them. Do yourself a favor and do not buy into any community in Belize. Do your own footwork down here and dont give anyone money who cannot produce a clean title. Many people have been ripped off.

I'm Cindy Carson aka BetterWatchIt. Janis and Veronica are honest Biopharms residents who would not hesitate to help a stranger or friend in need. We all believed Darin Smith was who he claimed to be. We each joyfully paid and made payments (interest free!) to Darin through Biospharms, Inc. until learning that the documents we signed and the quit claim deeds received were fraudulent and invalid. We who desire only honesty in business dealings will remove our truthful warnings when Darin Smith actually provides the promised legal subdivision, individual titles, and an actual orphanage we each paid $10K for. Who are the haters, those who warn potential buyers of the scam or Darin Smith and his pseudo HOA?

You know Darin aka Owner who knows, I truly feel sorry for you. You have no soul to lie the way you do to our faces and behind our backs ... to say those things about me you will be judged one day before the Lord. To come on here to publicly say those things about me after the friendship and trust I gave to you until November 2014 are an extremely sociopaths comment. Anyone that knows me knows your lies. You use the word "hate" a lot with my name and again those that know me know I don't hate anymore or wish them harm. The only truth to why I am not in my home there is due to the stress of your intimidation and actions against me You know absolutely nothing about my children and family and once again I call you a liar for your comments. God have mercy on you Darin.

Darin Smith, owner of Biospharms, is currently being sued for fraud, as he has sold small lots out of a parcel of land that he holds in his name only. There is no application for survey, permission to survey, application for subdivision, nor permission for subdivision and he uses US documents that aren't worth the ink and paper that they are written on as far as Belize is concerned. He uses slander and extortion as facts to destroy any person that questions his motives or actions. I believe, that people who display characteristics, like the owner has displayed, are sociopathic.

Belize is a beautiful place to live, that being said, it's not without it's challenges. While the concept of Biospharms is a good one, Biospharms is NOT a legal entity here in Belize. Not only is it not a legal entity, Darin Smith cannot give titles to the properties that he has sold, as he did not apply for a subdivision, he did not apply for getting a legal survey done and he refuses to give receipts for money that he has received for the lots with houses that he has sold. This is just the facts. My husband and I came down here on a handshake almost 2 1/2 years ago, trusting that Darin Smith was a Christian and was doing things above board. Instead he slanders those that have discovered the truth about how he has done business and threatens them with volatile and abusive emails. Please think long and hard before you buy into this. Make Darin Smith show you the paperwork from the Lands Office in Belmopan, that has the stamp from the director that he has a 'legal' subdivision, and that you will receive title before making any final payment to him. Darin Smith puts himself above the law and uses ILLEGAL tactics to extort money from those that he can't control. He has illegally cut water to our house claiming that we owe him money, which we don't. He has violated the PUC(Public Utilities Commission) rules and regulations, which is punishable by a fine and up to a year in jail. These are not words and actions of a Christian man! Promises were made, none were kept.

I have owned for years there and know most people involved. Only a tiny handful of vocal gossips are causing all the mess. It's been about 8 months since the false prophet who hides behind his wife Veronica which is posted above tried to do a back hand take over and miserably failed. Since then he has done nothing but look terrible and now is finally on his way out. We all thank God. We are now stronger than ever. The dead wood is gone and burned up and the community looks and feels better than ever. No community is without their Judas but at least the ones here are all now found out and no one listens to their lies. I know the women who began this lie post and string of lies. She has had me for coffee and muffins. This women trapped me there for nearly three hours telling every lie and nasty gossip imaginable. She Janis, went on to cry about how no one in her family liked her and how she hated her parents and own kids and by the end I knew she would never survive in a community. We learned God took this women out and for us it was obvious why. Here's the thing, this community is so awesome. The neighbors are like family, everyone is growing food and raising families or pets and it's like life was in the good ole days. It took some bad people to show all of us left what we have and we are thrilled to share it with them. Come and see for yourself how beautiful the place is and how wonderful those who were refined through those fires are and you'll see it one of the most wonderful places ever. There are only a handful of empty lots left. But some foreclosures and resales are sure to happen as well.

I have spent many years in Latin America and am also a happy Biospharms homeowner. I love my beautiful and uniquely built cabin and the chance to grow coconuts, papayas, yucca and bananas in a charming tropical setting. I was quite drawn to this place and look forward to helping to build the orphanage there, and offering many other of my life skills over the next few years. It seems that some of the above commenters did not fully listen to the terms of ownership nor did they do all their homework in advance. It is unfair to mob bash a good man who has a wonderful vision to farm off the grid and help children in a developing country together with his loving family. He has taken many risks and overcome many challenges thus far. I know things move slower in Latin America, permissions take a lot of time and yes it rains heavily in a rain forest! I hope and pray with all my heart that those who are so unhappy in this beautiful place, decide to move on so that what will remain is the loving, safe, helpful community that this is meant to be. If what you as a reader looking for is moving into a subdivision with electricity, high speed Internet, and lots of government permits and conditions to comply by etc. in Belize, there are probably many other better options for you. I you, however are drawn to a simple farming life, with some of the natural risks and obstacles of farming worldwide, while helping to build a community with some commons, and want the blessing and challenge of supporting an orphanage with your talents and skills, then consider Biospharms as a possible future home. Please come first, experience it yourself, talk to the visionaries, optimists and problem solvers, ask lots of questions, do more research, fast and pray, and if then this is the place for you, we welcome you with open arms. Of course you can listen to the naysayers too and be convinced that it just can't or shouldn't be done but that's never any fun! Far better to live, love and dream, create and leave something worthwhile behind.

It's not hard to see the complaint posts are sour grape liars. The one that posts under the name Veronica is a man named John. This man did indeed come down and try to make it in the community but was ousted by everyone there but two cronies who also have negative post. This man John was found to be false prophet who was trying to take the lead in this cute little community to lead it down a road to destruction. Once he was discovered to be hooked on prescription drugs and a serial wife beater the community turned on him and all but two began shunning. There only tool left to fight because no one in the country of Belize will any longer listen to them is sniping comments on this site.
Feel free to contact any of the dozens of families who have owned here for years and years and get the real scoop. The place is beautiful and peaceful and a fantastic place to be. Come be the judge for yourself the proof should be in the fact that there only remains a handful of small farms left to offer.

I am celebrating life at the Pharm today! I continue to be overwhelmed at the beauty every morning of waking up to the exotic bird songs, and the gentle rustling of the palm and banana leaves. Other than this heavenly music, there is quiet and peace that is hard to find on the earth these days. I so dislike leaving it, even for a day when I have to go out to take care of business!

I can’t wait to get back to the Pharm. The potential of time passing and getting to watch my small Surinam cherries, nutmeg trees, coconut palms and custard apples mature into gorgeous, food-providing trees is so inspiring. I look forward to sharing my little Pharm house with family and friends who may come for a visit one day. While the sun comes up, I am out watering trees and singing “This is the life!

Seriously, that is what I do. I have no illusions, though... It is not “the life" for everyone. If you don’t like the quiet and serenity of the jungle, or if you are prone to heart failure should you encounter an occasional scorpion or a snake that didn’t receive notification that they are not invited as live-in guests in your dwelling, or even if you have a heavy addiction to the shopping mall, opera, or big city lights, then this might not be “the life” you are going to love. It is for me, though, and I am celebrating and thanking God for it!

I had a blast working with Darin to design the first house I’d ever lived in that was built just for me and the life I planned to live! I marvel at the beauty of the exquisite hardwoods used in building the cabinets, floors, day beds that turn into storage, as well as our own beds that do the same thing. The breezes that blow through most, not all, but most of the time, make air-conditioning a non-necessity, even in this tropical climate. I so enjoy raising my own little tribe of chickens and other small friends! and I am celebrating this amazing place in so many ways.

I am not Pollyanna, however. I don’t think it is utopia. Every place and everything has its challenges and problems, but there is so much to be excited about, the challenges don’t take up a big portion of my focus! I see that few residents who brought some baggage and soul-wounds with them here from a previous life, are so unhappy that they cannot convince the rest of us to attend their gossip and gripe claches, that they have now resorted to slinging mud on the Internet, but many are not using their real names or initials to do so. It is so very sad when God blesses people with the opportunity to live in an amazing community like Biospharms, but they choose to be deceived into focusing on every sort of negative they can come up with and sit around tearing people down that they could choose to be enjoying fellowship with, praying with, and co-operating with on a million and one different projects they could be involved in to make other people’s lives better, both in the community and outside of it! (But, hey, you know how the story goes…There is always some minority that feels a need to complain, groan, and gossip about everything and everybody they encounter, no matter how wonderful an environment they are in!) I believe with all my heart that God has beautiful plans for this community! That is probably why the enemy seems to be working overtime to discredit the wonderful vision and stellar individuals who are the core of this blessed, and happy place.

No, friends, I am not in la-la land regarding issues surrounding the two different forms of holding land ownership at Biospharms, and the fact that some want it to be one way and some want it to be another way, and that a small minority of 4 landholders want the entirety of the community to wage some kind of hate campaign against the builders just because they won’t permit the whiners to come in and take over the Pharm, to the detriment of the rest of the community.

Well, I feel like I have invested too much of my day discussing the addictions of the negatively-minded to negativity, when I have a multitude of fun things to go work on and create here, with people whose company I adore and from whom I am learning so much! When found out, though, that my sweet community is being run into the ground on the Internet, I felt like somebody ought to share the other side of our story. I have seen first-hand, the example and character of these who are like the woman in Proverbs who “tears down her house with her own hands”.

The Instruction Book tells me that I am to love and honor my brothers and sisters, and that if I have an issue with them, to speak to them personally, not to go behind their backs with gossip and slander. Scripture also says that if I choose to listen to lies, that I am as guilty as those who are speaking them! That is fearful. I do not wish to read more of what I have heard too much about already. I also do not wish to be part of the things that I believe will befall those who embrace bringing disunity and confusion amongst brethren. (Check out the six things which Proverbs tells us are detestable in God’s sight…) Let’s pray for the exposure and demise of schism and disunity, and that we may live in the praise and thanksgiving that our Father so delights in blessing!

Still singing,
M and N

We purchased a BIOSPHARMS mini farm from Darin Smith the sole owner of the land he claimed was a subdivision. He sold this to us through his solely owned Corporation based in Florida. This Corporation sells land it has no title to nor can it convey the land as described as a subdivided Lot and Home package because BIOSPHARMS is not the owner and is not a Belizean Corporation. The land is solely owned and operated by Darin Smith according to the Government of Belize. Mr. Smith has never asked for permission to survey, or applied for subdivision, therefore he is trying to hide behind a shell Corporation who he has given permission to sell. Fact he is the salesman for BIOSPHARMS. I'm sure this seems sketchy at best, but it actually goes much further as you begin to unravel the insidious game he is playing on well intended Christain people. He lures the buyers in by plying them with emotional and spiritual desires to do Gods service. He does this with Orphanes and young girls supposedly being sold into sex slavery as he uses unfounded and unverified statistics such as 85% of the orphaned girls end up in the sex trade. If he did pull on your heart string enough with that, he claims the Government does nothing for these Orphanes who have no food, clothes, or beds. Which all of his claims are ridiculous lies used to pull you deeper into his fake orphanage that has never applied for a license, and the investigator of The Social Services has never heard of nor the creator of this fictitious entity he promotes on line as "Rene's house". Please be warned of this man we believe to be a sociopath and a confidence man.
Signed, Owner of a non lot in a non subdivision at twice the price;who got half of what we paid for, and still no title.

I am at the moment the longest-standing resident at Biospharms. I have had no trouble with Biospharms the community or Darin Smith the developer. I have no interest in beating this dead horse about property ownership. I find it boring, and I am not ill at ease with the land-owning process as it is proceeding. Land ownership differs in Belize, and one must become more relaxed with the Belize system, which can be slow and tedious and trying. Meanwhile, I live securely on my farm. Heretofore, Biospharms has been a loose confederation. Some mistakes were made in the beginning about how to put such a community together. Darin knows this. Any developer in Belize will say much the same. There is a learning curve. If you don't believe it, give it a try, yourself. Mark the red-tape you will inevitably encounter. Darin, far from scamming people, is working day and night to integrate the community. He works tirelessly, and he does more for people than they do for him. Far beyond the call of duty. The people who do not stay at Biospharms are generally unfit to be here to start with. Or, put differently, several have been nut cases. Darin often loses as much money as he makes. This community is NOT a scam. I know this from knowing both Darin and Biospharm's inhabitants. We will have a trust here or we will have individual deeds. This will satisfy American instincts and expectations for ownership. The problem comes with people fretting needlessly over things over which they have no control. Immigration, for example, here works at its own mysterious pace. And the way it works is the custom of the country. Those who cannot negotiate and accept difference should probably remain at home. And certain personality types would do better in the US, where things work with an expected convention and a massive legality. Belize marches to different drummers. Darin Smith, contra claims, is nothing more than a good salesman and what the Germans call a Mensch--a good guy, a sport, something of a man's man. I understand and appreciate this about his character; others may find these qualities contrary to their conceptions of piety. I am not bothered. If a man were interested in scamming people, he could find a much easier, less labor intensive, way to do it than working night and day. Sincerely, Stephen Gatlin, PhD

The above complaint is true. When we saw our $50K cabin for the first time, standing water was underneath and around the cabin. Some puddles were a foot deep and 5 to 7 feet wide. It was impossible to get from the cabin to our truck without going through the mud the entire two weeks we were there. When i asked the developer to add drainage, he said, "You live in a jungle. It can't be drained." We were surprised and shocked by the cavalier respnse. It was so cold and indifferent to our concerns.

Someone asked a question about flooding on the Biospharms page, and Darin Smith responded that there was no issue with flooding "at all" there. I questioned whether that was what he meant to say because I've seen photos of significant amounts of standing water in the yards with the buyer even joking about making a pond there. I've also seen photos of the bridge under running water and posts about residents not being able to cross and being stuck on their side of the bridge! Instead of answering my query he deleted my question and has blocked me from commenting on the Biospharms page. Not the action of a man with integrity. No wonder there is legal action against him now. I hope he will make amends to the people he has defrauded and misled.
