I answered an ad on Craigslist for a handy man to build a wall. He gave me an estimate and had a small child with him, saying his son was on winter break and he would use the opportunity to teach him a craft. I paid half of the money in a check with the date post dated to the day of work. I was in contact with him up to the morning. He cashed my check and ran. Wouldn't answer phone, text or email. I did a thorough background check( yes, a little to late) and discovered he has an AKA and his wife has 7 alias'. I posted an ad on Craigslist warning others which was promptly flagged. A man contacted me and said he had ripped him of just 2 weeks earlier. I contacted the wife to let her know I knew who they were and her information. I said I just want my money back. Immediately a got a call from a different number, it was the scammer calling me with a threat. Within minutes my phone started ringing off the hook and my doorbell kept ringing. Someone showed me an ad on Craigslist with my address, phone number and it said everything was free, come get it. For the next hour I had over 100 phone calls and at least 75 trucks pulling up outside. Ringing my door. I posted an ad that there was nothing free at this address and flagged it but it took an hour for it to come down. There is a serious problem with Craigslist when people can just make a fake ad and send people to your door and give out your phone number. I guess at this point I need to stop trying to get my money back as this guy is crazy, a criminal with no morals.

I was stalked, threatened, harassed. I had reported it to Craigslist and IC3 and nothing was ever done, the same men who preformed this are still active, destroying another countries culture, promoting prostitution and pre-marital sex, when i tried to defend against them, they used flagging software to block my posts and committed the acts above.

I answered an ad from craigslist for a personal assistant after 1 email response I was told I had the job however I dont even know the name of the supposed employer as well I was told tat I would be receiving a check in the mail and to keep 10percent and to send the rest forward by way of western union smells awful fishy, just wondering if there are any others out there that have had the same experience

Craig's list is okay if you are a buyer but to be an advertiser was a real waste of my time. Each time I posted an ad to sell something the only replies I got were ###s who don't know how to read the part that says not to solicit me. The only ads that got the desired results were my cell phone ads and my software ads. I answered a couple of job ads on Craigs list that turned out to be scams. I stopped using this site and went elsewhere. If you want to use this web site that's up to you. Use it with caution. I don't reccomend Craig's List.

Someone tried to scam me when I posted a desk on craigslist using the same two e-mail addresses that the other's have posted [protected]@gmail.com and [protected]@yahoo.co.uk I had this happen once before so I was on to him I am glad to see there's a place to post this kind of fraud

i wrote to craigslist complaining about spam and it seems my ip has been blocked by any and all craigslist.org sites. this is very good business practice, instead of blocking the ip of the scammer they have blocked mine. seems that sprint offices and others must contribute to the financial well being of our buddy craig and he cares nothing about his users.

Someone called 'Dan', using an email address of [protected]@gmail.com, is 'selling' some laser tag guns on Craigslist in London. He claims to be in North Ayrshire, KA25 7HQ (insistent on telling you that in every email). However, his bank details provided - for a purchase of over £1400 - was under the name of V D Stoican.

Account : **579263

He adds:
"10 Brockly View, Kilbirnie, North Ayrshire, KA25 7HQ. Once you send the funds give me a copy from the bank receipt or a digital picture so I can verify.".

Dodgy, VERY dodgy.

Glad I saw this site, as other people had reported his name - thanks for highlighting it, and sorry to hear about other cases involving this guy.

What a remarkable level of incompetence.
So huge, yet so distant from what is happening on their own site.

Scammers are given free reign to post an unlimited number of scams.
While honest ' real ‘ considerate people are NOT allowed to post at all.
They can’t even manage something as simple as their own flagging process.
It’s like they want the scammers to take over their site

Phone verification system is a joke, with absolutely no verification alternative if you use a VoIP phone service.
They say to: “Check out the phone authentication help page”
Oh, DUH.
And then provide a fake link that appears to be helpful:: “Problems? Let us know.”
Yeah, right.
All you get is the same standard response every time with the same help links that you already read.
With no real person to contact.
I've been letting them know for over 2 years now and they couldn’t care less.

every single time i post an add on craigslist.com my add no matter if it is not in breech of terms of agreement is flagged and removed after all the craigslist killings i would think the feds should step in and tell the owner of the site to make it safer and adds should be reviewed before un necessary deletion

A craigslist scammer under the name of Gabriella Barney is using false has responded to my post to sell a power chair. After further research on the internet. I have found that this person is a known scammer who attempts to obtain the product without paying.

This person uses a fake paypal account in which they claim they will send money through paypal to pay for the product. This personal also claims they will send a check to pay for the shipping costs.

Below is a copy and paste of the fake fed ex email. I have also forwarded this information to fed ex.

This is known scam based upon other searches and I wanted you to be aware.

I am a Realtor and we post our listing on our MLS, them Trulia.com, picks these listing up as well . Someone is stealing the information from Trulia and reposting this information on Craig List, He obtaining email addresses for yahoo.com. Here are and are using them to scam us .

About 3 weeks ago, I responded to an ad on Craigslist about a tutoring job for a 13 year old boy who was coming to the states for 3 weeks during the holiday. The man (Larry Smith) said that he lived in Germany and in the states and that he was sending his son over with a nanny. We agreed to the terms of the tutoring sessions. He was to pay me $450 for the sessions over the course of the 3 weeks. I sent him my name, address, and phone number then I did not hear from him for 2 weeks. One night, I get a text from a strange number saying that it was Larry wanting to let me know that the check was on its way for the job we talked about and that he had trouble with his previous email address so he had to give me a new email address. He said that the check had to be deposited and I was to deduct my money for the job from the total and wire transfer the nanny the rest of the amount. I was skeptical from that point on. I asked him several questions about his son and the situation, and he answered them all. He included the “nanny’s” name, address, and phone number (a 772 area code) and the nanny had a Minnesota address (Lorie Swenson). The next day the check arrived for $1, 850. He sent me an email saying to deposit it and send the money to the nanny as soon as possible because she was counting on the money for the trip over (which was supposed to be the following day). This was the day before Thanksgiving, and I was not planning on depositing the check that day or the next because the banks were closed anyway. I emailed him to tell him that it will take a few days because of the holiday. He said it was no problem but that the nanny was waiting for it. In the mean time, I looked at the check and it looked real but the information was inaccurate. The address for the supposed sender was wrong, the phone number given to me was from a different state than Minnesota, and the address for the sender of the USPS package the check came in was googled to an AT&T store. After realizing the money was not going to be sent so quickly, “Larry” sent me email claiming that the nanny called him to tell him that his son “Jerry” fell and hit his head and he needed immediate surgery and that I needed to send the cash as soon as possible because his life was in danger. He used lines like “in the name of God help me. You’re the only one who can help me.” This topped it all! I knew it was a scam at this point, and sent him to hell in my response email. DO NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP! Use your instincts, and GOOGLE.

need to warn people about this psycho...i dont even know who he is...he gave his # through email on craigslist and i texted him once...but he has been harassing/stalking/calling making derogatory threats to me ever since. His # is [protected] ... he sounds like a different race---he seems like a crazed freak who is angry and wanting to take his anger out on women...he won't stop calling me and even though I told him to get lost and other things he keeps calling/texting... dont even know his name but seems like one major sick freak beware...

I replied to an ad on Craigslist about a house in Grand Rapids Mi that was being advertised as a rental and the asking price was $1000 per month. The house address was listed as 7395 Whispering Ridge Street in Grand Rapids, MI. The person who replied had the email of: [protected]@yahoo.com. After some research, I found that the house was NOT for rent but rather was a currently listed house for sale by Coldwell Banker agent, Brian Clinger, for an asking price of $250, 000. I contacted the selling agent who verified with the owner that he had not placed an ad on Craigslist for the house to be rented and that he was not out of the state of MI on his honeymoon, as the perpetrator had stated in his email to me. I was asked by the selling agent and the actual owner THOMAS ZELINSKI, to report the ad to Craigslist as well as the FBI, which I have done. Here is a copy of his email response to me:

There are so many spammers on this site you don't know who is real and who is fake. I found my second job on this site a few years back and everything went well. Recently, I have been looking for a new job (because I moved) as a teachers assistant/substitute. There were (what seemed to be) very legitimate and promising ads. When I sent my resume, the only responses I got were that I needed to send my credit report in order to "qualify" for the position. Are you kidding me? Then, I kept getting junk emails from random, unknown sites that I never signed up for.

Furthermore, I tried to post an ad in the gig section and my ad would either never show up or would be flagged even though they clearly followed the rules and there wasn't profanity, etc. When you try to send CL customer service an email about it, they just send you a generic response telling you to look at the help forum giving possibilities on why your ad was omitted or flagged. They don't help at all! No matter how many emails you send them it's the same response email over and over. I think it's too easy for people to flag ads. If you go on backpage, in order to flag an ad you need to specify why you are flagging, etc. That way, people take it a little more seriously. I found with CL if any little comment offendeds somebody or doesn't sit well with them, they can flag too easily. This site is just a hassle all around. Way to many spammers and scammers out there. My adivce is to be better safe then sorry, STAY AWAY!

Craigslist.com is simply not a reliable site, any longer. Especially, if one is looking to purchase products. Services can be another matter. The sellers are generally: fraudsters; whiners; low-ballers; cheats; scammers; and other disreputable characters. I have had no luck in the past 24 months with any sales items, and given up. Regarding services, trust me, Be wary and careful. First, try to screen through a mediated web mail address. Never, give a personal e-mail account, or Trouble! I still occasionally found some reasonable and reputable service, but do one's homework, please. Screen, check, and ask again. If they're not willing to talk or give any time on a phone, I say, Why Bother.

Security Jobs posted on Craigslist in Saint Louis are 99% Scams. Using words like "acquaintance".
"finding" security officers.
These are words used by scammers in Lagos, South Africa sitting in the coffee shops. You send them your info thinking you are applying for a security job, when what you are doing is setting yourself up for e-mails about Viagra, Cialis, Penis enlargement, Russian Brides, etc.
I used to post warnings about the SCAM security ads but Craigslist has since then refused to post any of my "warning ads"
This is because they are getting something out of these ads. What, I do not know.
This is outright DISCRIMINATION.

I am a recruiter for a top marketing company. I had thought that I would try craigslist to post an ad for recruitment into my company. What I have discovered is the people who did respond to the ad were less then desirable (calling when intoxicated, not showing up for a scheduled interview, lazy etc). I decided to look at other postings to see if there were any other reputable companies posting on craigslist. Unfortunately what I found was about 70% of the posting looked like scams. About a week into the ad being posted, it got flagged and removed. This made me question craigslist further. I had gone on to the help section of craigslist to find out why this would happen. What I seem to have learned is that craigslist is now controlled by many people of undesirable nature and they are trying to push all legitimate business out. After reading some of the complaints here I would have to say that the only thing allowed on craigslist are scams. It is too bad that craigslist has turned into one big scam because at one time when it first started out it was a great resource. I say to everyone reading this to be aware and do not post or respond to posts on craigslist, unless you are positive you will get the results you are looking for.
