Good 👍
Consumer Portfolio Services is generally doing well in dealing with customer problems, which is nice to see! But there is still a lot of work to be done (for example, responding to all incoming complaints). We suggest reviewers take some time to understand how exactly the company operates. Reading other customers' experiences can also give insight into how Consumer Portfolio Services handles challenging situations.

Consumer Portfolio Services Calls others and gives detail infor about my loan status

They changed my original due from the 13th of the month to the 1st without my permission or request. If my loan payment becomes past due they call my work, fax my work and if I hit 60 days (twice I have) they call everyone of my references and leave detailed information about my loan status, even my last payment date. They have threatened to send the repossession company over to get my van - I was passed due $100. due to a posting error by Western Union. - $100. I told them when the repo man came - I'd give him the $100.

I was making payment arrangements in my son's behalf. Once everything was agreed by two CPS assc., here comes a call from a third assc. by the name of Ms. S. Hampton, it was received on the 28 of July 2017 at 1pm eastern standard. The young lady seems to have left her bussiness manners and etiquette at home or somewere else, after I explained her in detail what I was doing she was very abusive and demeaning in her attitude towards me, and you know the beauty of all this I was only trying to help some else. Boy CPS you got my *&&^%$()_ vote of no confidence, you are trash! Like a rebuttal?

Call and harassing even if its a day later that the due date. They are so rude. They will say things like well borrow money from you family for gas or food money or we will take your car. They on a regular basis take more money then they are supposed to out when you make a payment. When you call and ask they say oh well they should have told you there were extra fees, how many extra fees can there be? They have do that several time and have left me negitave in my bank. When I filed a claim with my bank they called and said since it was rejected if I didnt pay right then they were going to pick up my car. Nevermind the fact they took 120.00 more than they were supposed to. This has been the worst five years because of these horrible people. I'm so glad I'm done paying them but still am getting the run around trying to get my title. I hope the next future customer reads this post and does not use them no matter how desprate they are. DO NOT USE CONSUMER PORTFOLIO SERVICES!

I agree with E. Miller. Our harrasing phone calls started the day after our first payment was due. I had already mailed the payment, but they insisted it would take two weeks for them to proccess, so I had to make another payment to them right away so I would get proper credit. BULL! I told them that that was not going to happen, and they proceeded to threaten me with bad credit reports and repo. Every 3 weeks we get a phone call from them asking when we are going to make our payment. They call my husbands work and get him in touble. They harrass us evn when it's not payment day! This is so uncalled for, as well as should be illegal. These people should be out of business! I am in the proccess of selling my car and getting away from them! Good luck if you'e reading this!

I agree with ALL of the other complaints filed about CPS. If your auto retailer mentions that they are providing you "in house" financing or lending with CPS (Consumer Portfolio Services), walk away, run, hitch hike, do whatever you can do to get out. Don't sign up for a loan with CPS!
I was in a real pinch when I purchased my car from a local auto (Big Name) dealership here in Anchorage. I won't name names, but it rhymes with "Hal Northington." They offerred in house financing which I thought meant the loan came straight from the dealership. Come to find out, this was not true. They had actually financed me with CPS! Now I am stuck paying on a car that I've been upside down in since the minute I purchased it, almost 3 years ago!
If my payment is more than 3 days late, they start calling me at my work, home and cell phone, which I regret ever giving them! Harassment! Today I attempted to call them SEVEN times, each time I was told to hold on before I even got a word out, then my call was disconnected after holding for 5 minutes. This happened SEVEN times over a three hour period. Eventually, I caught on and started talking immediately when they answered and was able to catch someone's attention. Then I explained to the agent on the line what happened and she didn't care! I told her that I'm sure she meant to appologize for their poor customer service...
This place has NO customer service, they harass you, and they don't deserve to have anyone give them their business!

Let me start by stating that I get constant harassing calls from CPS (Consumer Portfolio Services). They not only call me and falsify who they are, but they also contact my references and question them and give out my personal information, which really should not be discussed. They also falsely stated that they were detectives looking for me, when I have been living in the same place for the past 10 years (or more). They constantly lie to say that they are trying to help me with my matter(s), but yet when I call them back to see if I can set up some type of help with payments, they continue to harrass me and just tell me what to do without looking further into my situation. I have recorded them numerous times making threats and accusations which were not true. I have every intention on paying them for my vehicle, and heavens knows I need it, plus I am a single parent doing the best that I can. But the stress that comes from harassment is just unbearable and will be stopped. I am not going to call people back who are doing more hurt than harm. I understand that when you purchase items they have to be paid for, but I did not sign an agreement to be harassed. When they call, they call back to back during the day constantly when there is no need for that. I also wonder if this is a reputable company for the lies that they tell in order to contact someone. I don't have to hide from anyone, but you cannot sit on your cell phone all day at a place of business when it's your job. This company need to realize that people go through things every day of their life, and not everyone can always predict when things happen they may alter their financial situation.

I have had an auto loan with this company for over 3 years and until recently, my payment had never been late. The last couple of months, my payments were a couple of weeks late and they not only call me multiple times daily, they contact my mother, and others. Then, last week, I CALLED THEM to make an arrangement and the "customer service" rep says things to me like "What's your problem, do you not make enough money?" "What makes you think you don't have to pay your bills on time?" "Are you broke?" and finally, "Do you have an addiction? Is that where your money goes?" I was irate, asked to speak to a supervisor 6 times and was finally hung up on. I Contacted headquarters and was given the name of the "supervisor" for the Illinois branch. I have left no less than 10 messages for him and heard nothing!

I really feel sorry for anyone who have to finance their car through this company. I was used as a reference by a friend. They call my job every time my friend is late. They tell me they are reporting the car stolen. They tell me my friend makes enough money and should make the payments. They ask me for personal information about my friend. Even though I've told them not to call my place of employment again, they continue. Fortunetly, my boss and I are real close friends. We laugh at the representative. I love telling them where they can go...to *#&! ...you can fill in the blanks ;) So if this message can spare one person the stress of dealing with this company, it was worth the typing!

CPS called me saying it was regarding a "very urgent matter". Turns out they were trying to collect $ from my roommate for HIS car loan. I asked the man how he got my phone number and he said "Well, it's listed with your address, it's public information." Not the nicest guy, I told him to please remove my name and number from whatever account they had set up for my roommate and I did not think it was right for him to call me regarding a matter that has nothing to do with me. So unprofessional.

Perhaps you should pay your bills, and stop complaining when the company that you AGREED to pay, actually wants their money. Loser.

Consumer Portfolio Services harrassing and rude

I called into CPS to set up a payment arrangement for the following week and the man I spoke with (MIKE) was unreal. He threatened to take my van. He actually yelled at me! I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said no. I, again, told him that I was not going to argue with him and that he made me feel uncomfortable and that I wanted to speak to someone else. He said, "Why, because I won't do what you want me to, still no!" Only after I told him that I was going to start recording the conversation, he finally gave me to someone else. The other gentleman (BRENT)was proffesional and set up the arrangement with no problem. Brent even stated that I had made my payments faithfully for over 2 years with no problem so he didn't understand the problem with being a week late, yes just a week. Brent also told me that he'd have a supervisor call me so I could report how Mike was acting but no one ever called.

Consumer Portfolio Services Harassment from CPS

Consumer Portfolio Services Inc financed my husband’s vehicle back in July of 2006. In any event – my husband lost his job two weeks later. Low and behold my husband has been trying to get back on his feet. I informed CPS about our situation – however – they were not interested.. CPS did not assist or work with us in anyway. Therefore - since then - I've been behind on my payments. CPS calls me, my husband, my sister and my job on a daily basis. They went as far as sending a lady (who did not care to leave her name) in a FORD fusion to deliver a letter and to take pictures of my home and my neighbors on Sunday, June 27th 2010 @ 2:30 PM. I have a list on dates and times that CPS has called threatening me and my family. I reached out to an Attorney for advice and they suggested that I get in contact with someone local who can assist me with filing a suit against Consumer Portfolio Services. Please assist me with this issue. I know - I'm behind on my payments - but - when I try to talk to someone @ CPS - they don't want to hear it. They just want to threaten me and my family... PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIATE IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST CPS - PLEASE LET US KNOW. MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS: [protected]@gmail.com

Consumer Portfolio Services Harassment

I have had a auto loan with CPS since 2005. I signed up for the automatic payment option when I purchased my car. I have been on time with my payments for the last 5 years and am close to paying off my loan. I was recently laid off from my job and applied for unemployment benefits. As most people know this process can take anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks. I called CPS and let them know of my situation and was spoken to rudely and was given no consideration even though I had been a loyal customer who paid their bills on time. I have been HARASSED the last few months with several phone calls a day on my home and cell phone at all hours of the morning and evening. I am only one month behind in payments and agreed to catch up once I received my unemployment check. I have never been treated or spoken to in such an unprofessional manner and on top of that they leave threatening messages like "if we don't hear back from you today i'll have to make a decision on your car". What kinda crap is that? My boyfriend sometimes gets the messages before me and is VERY concerned about who I have my loan with. It is emberassing when they are constantly calling, even though you spoke to someone SEVERAL times! Plus, not only do they call and harass you, they call anyone you have down as a reference! Not sure if these people get a commission or what. I want to switch my loan to someone else immediately! This business should be ashamed of themselves and be closed down by the better business bureau.

I purchased a 06 truck, and I got CPS as my bank. I didn't know who they were at the time, but now I wish I had done some research before I got into my vehicle. For the first couple of months, everything was fine. Made my payments on time, everything was good. I was late for the first time in 8 months do to business being slow, and they called the day after my due date. Now from my experience, if you are are late by one day or so, no one can call and demand you to pay them. Now, it is even worse. I have had the vehicle for 2 1/2 yrs., and they are getting worse. I have been out of work for 8 months now due to a work related injury. And they don't want to hear it. When people go from making X amount of dollars a month to less than half of what they are making, its tough on what has to be paid first. I don't know about everyone else, but keeping a roof over my head is more important.

CPS does not want to hear any excuses. They have no sympathy for anyone. I have been phone call after phone call. Even on Saturdays and Sundays. 3-4 times a day. My wife has had to deal with them for me cause I could not take it anymore. They have called all of friends, my family and my job looking for me. And asking them when am I going to pay.

I have made several attempts to try to stay in their good graces, but it don't matter. I have put myself and my family more and more into debt trying to cover the payments. And now, I have a way that I can do my payments without screwing myself or my bank account, and they don't want to hear it. I was willing to work it out, but they don't seem to care. They want me to pay $1150 now. That is my last payments and my next payment that is due next month. Plus interest and late fees. No one no where can come up with that kind of money. Especially if you have bad credit.

If there is to be a Class Action Suit against CPS, I am in. I am currently looking for a lawyer to discuss my options, and I am also looking for someone else for the loan for my vehicle. Some one that is more reliable and not so cold hearted. Please, please, if you are getting any type of loan, DO NOT go thru CPS. They will harass you to no end.

I had a loan through this company. I trusted my now ex-boyfriend to make the payments, and he pockted them. No one called me from CPS to let me know I was behind on payments. They called my brother, who was a co-signer on the car. He informed them that I was responsibile for the car, and to call me not him. My brother then called me and gave me the message. I called them, and explained that if something is wrong with the loan, to please call me, so that I'm aware of the message. She sent up an agreement with my brother and he held up his end of the deal. Now she leaves a message on my mom's cell phone and discloses that she is trying to reach my brother and that he hasn't returned her calls, and that is about the settlement. They are trying to back out of the agreement with him. When she calls me she uses a private number, I have told her that unless you call from a number when I can see the number I'm not answering the phone. She calls at least 6 or so times a day. I have proof she disclosed personal infomation to a third party, and that's against the law. I use to work for a collection agency and I know that you can't disclosed any personal information about someone unless the debter gives his/her ok. I was sick a few weeks back and she called me and was very rude, I told her I was sick and I could hardly talk because of the flu and all. I told her that I had a very bad case of the flu along with bronchitis and she continued to talk. I hung up and went back to sleep and she kept calling me. I finally just turned my phone off so I could rest. If you have proof that they are disclosing personal information, talk to an attorney because they aren't allowed to do so. If they make a settlement agreement with you make them fax it over to you so you have it in writting. Keep a record of all the calls and if you can tape all the messages that are left. This company thinks it can do what it wants and they don't care. I threated to go to the media about them.

I too have had the same exact problem with this company. I have come to the conclusion that this is a govt owned company. Because they break every law that can be broken and they are still in business, it leads me to believe that the govt set up this company to give the poorest of poor and those that struggle the most to pay their debts for whatever reason, a loan to get a car so they can continue to work. A person with a car is much more likely to be responsible then someone who doesn't have a car. If it wasn't a govt owned company there is no way they wouldn't have been sued. I would like to start a civil law suit. I would like to get everyone that has had any kind of bad experience with this company an opportunity to take part in this law suit. If you are interested in moving forward with me, please email me at julesbydesign@yahoo.com. In the subject line please post CPS Car issues. If you would forward me an email with what you have gone thru with this company and any contact info you feel comfortable sharing, I promise you I will do my best to expose these people in our court system. This company went into my daughters checking account a second month in a row, and took payment, even though they were told several times that they could only take one months payment. The lady then said to my daughter we will be taking next months payment as well. My daughter said no, they didn't have her permission to go in there any other time but the payment she was calling for. They went ahead and stole the money out of her account the next month without any kind of contact or permission. I too have suffered all the same phone harassment as well as having all my family members being told that they were coming to repo my car. Again, I will be shopping for an attorney and filing a class action law suit. If the govt is behind this, it needs to be exposed, if this is an American company doing business in America, then they need to abide by the laws in America and calling and threatening and stealing money from our accounts is not the way we do business in a law abiding country. Email me if you are interested in joining this civil lawsuit. julesbydesign@yahoo.com

Wow, you complaint is just complete crap! First: you stated "I trusted my now ex-boyfriend to make the payments" It's your loan, take responsibility. Second: you stated "They called my brother, who was a co-signer on the car. He informed them that I was responsibile for the car" They have every right to call him, he is also signer on the loan. He is responsible as well. You claim they they are trying to back out of a settlement, how? Because they called your brother? He probably didn't make the payment. If he made the arrangement, of course they are going to call him! You have proof they diclosed third party information... what proof? a voice mail about a "settlement"? Please, that is not third party diclosure. I bet you a million dollars you will never have an attorney because your complaint is crap and your trying to get something for nothing. If this compny had any since, they would issue repossession and liquidate the collateral. they have every right because you seem to be in constant defaulgt.

They are just ridiciolous I went to trade my car in and the words of the gentleman at the dealership is that they F&*( you. Your car isn't worth what you were even financed for.

Does anybody know if a Class Action Suit has been established? They call my daughter's job about 12 times a day. They call stating that they are from a law firm and have gone to court and filed papers.
They tell her that they will come to her job to seize the vehicle and if she does not turn over said vehicle that she will be arrested for "bodily posession".

Consumer Portfolio Services Payment credits

CPS has continuously posted payments to our account AFTER the due date, however each payment was sent AND deducted from my bank account BEFORE the due date. Our last 10 payments are showing late charges incorrectly.
We recently made the last scheduled payment, a total of 48. They are claiming we only made 47, ( the payment history I have that shows 48, and has been looked at by my accountant and my attorney) came from THEIR records!

They also double 'autodrafted' my account, which in turn caused not only a negative balance, but bounced a mortgage payment. THEN they charge me an NSF FEE for that check, even though that months payment was made and posted!
SCAMMERS and THIEVES...

I have filed several complaints with the States Attorneys office.

Consumer Portfolio Services COMPANY IS A SCAM

I was financed through another Company for my car loan. The finance went bankcrupt, and CPS took over.. I was sent ONE letter informing me of the company change, along with my new account number. I lost all my documents while moving, and tried to contact CPS to get my account number so I could send my payment. I called numerous times, and could not get in contact with any live person. I was always referred to leave a voice message with a return number and my Social security number( which is very unsafe to do). I NEVER received a return call. I received NO aditional bills to make a payment, and no call backs. It has now been four months and still no catact has been successful. Now they are looking for my car for reposession, and have not gotten any advance notice. I am still trying to contact CPS, and still no contact, and no return call. DO NOT GET FINANCED WITH THIS COMPANY IF YOU ARE SEEKING A LOAN FOR A CAR. This is a Dishonest company, avoiding your payments only to repo your car and sell it to collect the dept from the companies they take over. BEWARE if your company has been taken over by CPS. You'll be sure to lose your verhicle.

I live in Ohio and I have been dealing with this company forever. So today I get a call from Tanisha Edwards, make that two calls within 2 minutes both with voicemails stating the same thing I need to call by 2pm today this is my last day to call, blah blah blah. First off I want to say it is illegal for any company to call and leave more than one message a day. As a matter of fact they are not supposed to call you again that day once they leave the message. I was told this by a collector that works for the government collecting student loans so they should know their stuff. I will also state I never return their calls because I have learned it absolutely pointless. They will never work with you no matter what the circumstances are. So the first person I talk to I explain to her I can make the payment on next Friday. Well we cannot accept that was the answer I got. I was then transferred to Ms. Williams. She immediately got an attitude with me. I started off by telling her it was unnecessary to call me 2 times in 2 minutes and leave messages and also told her that this was illegal. She says well I have two numbers for you. I said no the calls and messages were left on the same number. Then she says well that doesn’t matter. She goes on to state so you have been receiving my calls why have you not communicated with the company who finances your car. I then tell her because every time I call no one will work with me I am generally spoken to like I am the [censor] of the earth and have even been asked to pawn things and questions like where is the money we refunded you(they once took two back to back payments out). She then goes on to say well I have excellent customer service and I treat people the way I want to be treated so if you give me attitude I will give you attitude. So I tell her I cannot make a payment until next Friday. She says well you were paid 2 times in January so why have you not paid. I then explained that one check pretty much goes to rent and then on my last check I had an unexpected car repair that took my car payment. Well she says that's not my problem, it's your problem to figure out how to make the payment, you are driving our car for free we don't care about your other bills it is up to you to figure out how you are going to pay us you are two months behind. Every time I tried to say something she cut me off (She has excellent customer service remember) then I tell her well if you can't wait one week you will have to come get the car. She says how much mileage is on it I was like what does that matter? She gave me a big sigh and was like just tell me. I was like I am not in the car so I do not know. Well what condition is it in? I responded good. Where is the vehicle parked? I told her you have my address you figure it out. She then says okay this conversation is over have a good day. So I ask to speak to her supervisor. I then get Cherise (which is probably not a supervisor) I ask her so when are you picking the car up. She says well as of right now it is not out for repossession, when can you pay? So I have to go through all of this for the third time now with the third person. So I tell her I am making a payment next Friday for my December payment. My income tax return will be in right after that and I will make January's payment and then in two more weeks I will pay Feb which would make me current. She then says well your car is three months behind so we cannot make any arrangements with you. I was like I just told you I am willing to give you almost 900 dollars next month to cover the past due months and the current month. She says well you cannot negotiate the terms you are driving our car for free. I cannot tell you when this will go for repossession but I advise you to pay as soon as possible. Can you borrow the money? I say no. Have you tried to borrow the money? I say yes. Can you take out a payday loan? I say no I am not going that route I am not going to take out a payday loan for 300 so I can owe that place 400. Okay well then all I can do is note your account and this conversation is over. Have a good day.. Are you kidding me? I am so sick of this company! I just don't know what to do, you try to talk to them and they are unreasonable you don't talk to them and they get all upset about that. WTF any advice would be great!

We have been dealing with a auto finance company for 3 yrs, we ended up voluntary surrendering vehicle due to their constant hounding us, even if one day late they would call every phone we had sometimes 2-3 times daily and even call relatives and friends stating they were "CPS calling" they are consumer portfolio services. We set up arrangements of $50 mth they said it costs US $12 extra for them to process, due each mth on the 15th, they start calling us as early as the 5th of each mth every single day threats if we do not call back and "confirm" payment on the 15th. They call any and every number they have or can come up with. We have even been forced to change all our numbers and instruct family and friends to simply hang up on them!

I used CPS to finance my vehicle loan back in 2007. I made perfect payments to them every month and there was no problem, however after 7 months of perfect payments i enlisted into the military and had to leave for Basic training. I called CPS prior to leaving for Basic and explained the situation to them. I made every attempt possible to keep my account current while i would be away, offering to give them bank account and routing numbers for automatic withdrawls, offered to make payments in advance for the next four months while i would be away, and even offered to have my fiance who had power of attourney while i would be gone make payments on my behalf. CPS said none of these would work, that i personally had to call and make the payments by credit card, check by phone or mail a check monthly to them. I explained that i would be at basic training and i would not be able to do any of these options since i would not have access to a phone, my check books or credit cards for those four months. They said that is not their problem, (How patriotic of them to try and work with a soldier who is fighting and giving them the right to run this BS excuse of acompany (i use the term company VERY LOOSELY). so i told them that my only other recourse is to surrender the vehicle, i gave them the address where the vehicle would be, told them insurance and plates would be off the vehicle, and keys would be in the vehicle under the floormat on the driver side. i then left for basic. After four months i came back and the vehicle was gone, i called to confirm they had taken it and thery said they did. then i got a letter form them saying they sold the vehicle for 3500 dollars, A 2004 FORD EXPLORER 4x4 fully loaded with under 50k miles on it, ([censor]S), then further saying i owed them the balance of 12500 dollars that they lost. Well guess what, They arent gonna get it! my contract clearly states that the vehicle was put up as collateral in satisfaction of the debt in the event the loan defaulted, not my fault they sold it for less than a thrid of its worth. ever since they have been reporting the vehicle on my credit as reposessed and that the ACCOUNT IS STILL OPEN AND ACTIVE!?!?!?!?! i have faxed, mailed by certified mail, and called the company informing them of the innaccurate reporting on my credit report, they have not responded, i have disputed it with the credit agencies, and CPS confirms it is correct so it stays on as is. I called the BBB, FTC and STATE AG, and have filed greivances against the company, well see how this plays out. How can a company be allowed to conduct business like this? and ruin peoples credit with innacurate information, and why is it that we as the consumer cant fight it with the credit bureau, all we can do is dispute it to which the reporting company only has to say yes its correct and it stays on, i have news for the credit bureaus, a company can lie (case and point CPS) just as much as a consumer can, why can a company say yes its correct and it stays on, but i cant say no its wrong and it comes off?!?!?!?!

BTW i was able to acquire the Phone number of the Senior Vice President of Operations at CPS, along with her name, maybe i should give CPS a taste of its own medicine with the harrassing and unpleasant phone calls LMAO

I can actully get though after an hour! to make the phone call, but as people transfer you over and over and over! and then when you try to get a code they transfer you to a california # and then they put u on hold, I used to have a different company and CPS toke over, they are the most retarted excuse for a company! I just actully spoke with a live rep. and she actully said to me "we got your old companies accts. and are totally sure what to do with them" REALLY! F$%^^ get a clue and train all the people that work there or give them to someone else!

Consumer Portfolio Services Excessive Phone Calls

These people call my excessively at work for my loan payment. I believe they sent out someone to repossess my car and I saw them sitting in my apartment complex so I left then came back about 20 minutes later and they were parked in a different location. When I called to ask if they had sent someone to repossess my car, they wouldn't give me a straight answer. Also they asked me the condition of my car. I would love to give them the car back! Working with this company has been a nightmare. Please let me know about the lawsuit. I'm all in!

My husband and I have had nothing but trouble with this company, they are rude pushy and liars! They had a towing company call to threaten us then told us there was never any orders for a towing or any contact with a towing company, they said they did not know what we were talking about.

My husband has been in the hospital with health problems, been laid off his job and we have had multiple other financial difficulties, they say they may be able to work with you but then turn around and charge you 10 dollars A DAY in late fees! Our fees now total more than our monthly payment and we are not even paying on our van we are only paying fees! They are more crooked than credit card companies! DO NOT FINANCE WITH THEM IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING IT!

Please keep posting any info about the law suit!

There is a law suit against this company, please let me know about it. These are the most inconsiderate rude people I have ever dealt with. My car payment is 1 month behind and they had someone call me today to say that I was turning my car over to them. Which I never said, they lie about every conversation and call all the time. I would love to give my car back but then they will take my pay check according to them. I wish I have never gotten involved with them.

I understand I am responsible for making my payments on time but having some very hard finacial times right now.. I am tired of them calling an threating to take my truck just come and get it already I am so sick of all of this! Today I tried to call them to request a copy of my title the guy put me on hold came back on and asked why I need it I told him that I needed it to file bankrupcty he put me back on hold, then came back on and said the scanner ate it? It will now be 2 to 3 days for them to get a new one and fax it to me! I think this is a stall tacktic to try and get me to pay them as much as possible before I file... I don't know what to think of them except don't ever use them! No matter what walk ride the bus even a skateboard just DO NOT ever finance a car through this company! Oh yes and they have given my information out to third parties SO illegal!

Well MAGGIE
The problem is that even if you're one (1) day late they are hounding you as if you're 3 months late.
Most banks (or other lending institutions) will not contact you until you are past the 10 day grace period where a late fee will be tacked to your account.
Why you ask?
Because most Reputable institutions take certain things into consideration such as mail, website malfunctions, and so forth.
However regardless of why you're late, there is no reason (ABSOLUTELY NO REASON) why they should be rude, nasty, obnoxious, or inconsiderate when they call.
I'm a customer service manager and if I ever heard one of my employees THREATENING a customer they would be properly dealt with and more than likely terminated.
Also, you do not release information to anyone other than the person(s) who is on the loan. You do not threaten or give personal information to any listed reference. Your only goal is to obtain contact information so you can contact the person(s) on the loan.
You do NOT harass friends, co workers, bosses, or family.
As a matter of fact, do you NOT HARASS ANYONE.
You only find out when they are making the payment and that's it. If the payment has not been received by the date agreed upon, you make another COURTESY call stating you haven't received the payment and go from there. All this can be done without threatening the buyer or being rude or nasty to them.
Yes proceedures have to be followed, but personal vendettas, grudges, rudiness, arrogance, and being nasty toward customers is absolutely un called for.

Consumer Portfolio Services Disturbing Phone Calls

My husband and I received a message on our answering machine from this company. The person said that they were looking to repossess "their car", and that according the car's owner, this car was left at our residence. These collectors named us by name AND stated our address! I have never heard of this company until now, nor do I know anyone who drives a car remotely like the one they are looking for. So I call the number they left and found no one helpful. Next I call the cell phone number that showed up on our ID, a woman answered. When I asked for the collector's name she said that there was no one there by that name. I stated that I was returning a call from CPS. She then gave me their 1-800 number! I explained to her that I do not and would not have an account with them, and that I am merely returning a call. She asked if the car was in my driveway. When I answered NO she immediately said "don't worry about it, they can't do nothing". I want to know who is supplying these people with contact information! She wanted to tell me that I had the wrong number, but it was okay for her to call my private home number looking for a car I know nothing about? These people are the ### of the earth. I pay cash for every vehicle I buy. We could put these losers out of a job if everyone did the same.

Consumer Portfolio Services Currupt services

Working with Consumer Portfolio Services is impossible. Looking at account or trying to talk to them on the phone is impossible. Cheating customers with pay offs. If you are making a payoff your final payment should drop, but looking at a payoff cutting 2yrs of interest off a balance of $10566.00 the pay off would be $10640.00 . How could it increase . they cheat their customers every way possible. I would not recommend using them. If you see them comming run the other way.

I hate this company! My finance company was bought out by CPS and it's been a nightmare ever since. Yes, my credit isn't perfect..granted I was putting myself through school and was unemployed for a year. I was late on one payment and it wasn't 30 days pass due...however it didn't stop them from being rude and ignorant. Clearly these guys are [censor]S and I thank god that I don't have their low end job. Yes they can harass me for a few days...but at the end of the day their harassing people on the phone for a living and get yelled out by their customers...bless their heart. My score is improving, and I'm sure living a better quality of life than most of the CPS employees. ..I have seen them...they look as what they sound like. I was young and I made my mistakes and my score shall pass.

Consumer Portfolio Services 3rd Party Information Disclosued

A representative from CPS Car Loan called my neighbor on Saturday, December 12th disclosing personal information regarding my car payement and what they were going to do. My neighbor called and stated that the car loan peoples called her and was wondering how did they receive her number. I stated to my neighbor that I have never given out her information to anyone. My neighbor was very upset about what was shared with her and stated that the representative was very nasty.

I know that 3rd Part Information Disclosure is against the law. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau regarding this matter. I have not given CPS the right or permission to call my neighbors. It is not my neighbors business on how I conduct my business.

I am requesting that phone records be pulled from Saturday, December 12th between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

My name is Laiche R. Gutter and I can be reached at [protected] from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

I know exactly what you are going through. I had something extremely similar happen to me a few months ago. My information was illegally disclosed to someone i didn't even know, and then to top it off my identity was stolen. So the problems just kept coming in and i had no clue what to do, how much it was going to cost, and who i was even going to call. Finally my best friend presented a legal shield, which i can honestly and literally say SAVED MY LIFE. I know for a fact that there is something you can do in order to get the justice that you deserve, and i can help you get that justice and prevent this from ever happening again. You can email me whenever you want and i can help walk you through the process. My email is stevensinoradzki@prepaidlegal.com and i look forward to speaking with you in the near future.

Consumer Portfolio Services Intrusive call

I received a call at my private home number from this company asking for my husband in reference to someone who has the same name as mine. I called to find out what this was about and learned they were seeking a woman supposedly related to my husband in regards to a 2004 Toyota Camry. I explained that my husband has been deceased for 5 and a half years and although my name is the same as the woman they were asking about, it was not me. I did not have a 2004 Toyota Camry. The woman on the line interrupted me to state they used investigators to obtain the information and that was what they go by. She asked if I lived in Ft Lauderdale and I said I used to but now lived in Tennessse which is the number she was calling. I stated that their information was incorrect and to remove my number as I do NOT like getting calls referring to my deceased husband.
MY complaint is that this unscrupulous action is very intrusive and disconcerting. They obviously obtained my number by crossreferencing similiar names.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My mother had a similar incident with MCI several years back. They did an unsolicited call to her about their "Friends and Family" plan and told her they had just got off the phone with my uncle who recommended her to join the plan. The problem? He passed away 2 weeks prior in a very long and painful struggle with cancer. The person on the other end actually had the gall to proceed with her sales pitch and ask if my mom was interested in signing up anyway. Some people have no sensitivity and deserve to rot in hell.

Consumer Portfolio Services Car Payments

Consumer Portfolio is a BAD COMPANY to use or work for. They are rude and really could care less about their customers. If you payment is due on the 6th or any given day for that matter and you are not late or anything and that payment is not in their system by the Close of that Day; they will start calling and harassing you non-stop. This is not right and something should be done to stop creditors from calling your job all day using various callers from their office or calling you home from sun up to sun down. If I had known that Mercury Finance was behind CPS when I got my car loan; I would have walked out the door flat out. The dealers should tell their customers up front we they are dealing with and not when something goes wrong with the account. So, heads up and beware of ALL HIDDEN COMPANIES and the SMALL print for sure. DO NOT DO ANY TYPE OF BUSINESS WITH MERCURY FINANCE, CPS OR WHOMEVER THEY WANT TO CALL THEMSELVES.

If anyone wants to do something about this company, I just filed a complaint at the following web site: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov
This company has done everything from call my friends, neighbors, family. They even called the hospital where my granddaughter was a patient, asked for her room, then told the person answering the phone it was an emergency. When I asked how they got the information to call me there, I was told that was none of my business that he was just doing his job. He then went into great details about personal things in my life that he had NO business knowing about. Because of a loss of business, I got behind one payment. I was going to make the payment this past weekend but the front four wheel drive went out of the car. I called CPS on Monday morning to explain what had happened. I was told "don't worry about it" we'll defer two of your payments because it was going to take 1000 to fix the car. I was asked what garage my car was in, so they could verify that I was having it repaired. I gave them that information trying to be honest about the whole thing. They immediately began calling the mechanic, the parts store where the parts was coming from and demanding to know where the car was at so the could come repossess it. This garage and this mechanic are people I work with everyday. Although the mechanic refused to let them have the car until they paid for it, I can't begin to describe the embarrassment and CPS continued to call them every 10 or 15 minutes for two days. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and contacted an attorney to file law suit for breach of personal information. I want to get caught up on my payments, but when someone tells me they are going to try to help me, then deliberately lies about the facts, I will get satisfaction one way or another.

Consumer Portfolio Services Harrassing Phone Calls

We have been harrased on levels we have never seen before. From CPS calling our family and friends, to unauthorized charges to our checking account, to being called names like ignorant and stupid. My wife was verbally attacked and insulted on the phone by a so-called representative who wanted to speak to me concerning our account. This person went off on her and when she told him she was busy and needed to go, he added insult to injury by referring to her employment status. My wife is in school and works very hard to support me in paying this bill whenever she gets some money. They yell at me when I try to explain my situation to them and this has to stop! They even suggested to my wife that I allow them to repossess the car so "they won't have to call back ever again". I wish I had the fianances to repay this loan in full so we wouldn't jave to deal with them.

This company is absolutely out of control. I make the payment month after month but this month when I made the payment, I accidently paid the payment for $4 less that what it was supposed to be. That is right (FOUR DOLLARS) less that the amount supposed to be. They called the day after the payment was made and said this "I suggest you call us today or we are going to repo your car" OVER FOUR DOLLARS. They can kiss my A$%. Does anyone know of any class action lawsuits currently going on with this company that can be joined?

I totally agree. If they are calling a third party that is against the law. It took them 4.5 months after I told them to come and get the car that I lost my job and couldn't pay for it. Even since they picked it up I have received over 200 calls from them most of them just a recording.

Consumer Portfolio Services Harrassment, Disrespect and Lying

The next time you go car shopping and the dealer says CPS has approved your loan - RUN, take a bus, ride a bike or steal a car, but whatever you do don't finance with this disreputable company.

I am a professional person with an MBA, but a history of some difficult times which ruined my credit. I am not an idiot and therefore do not feel I should be subjected to being treated like one. I have been harrassed daily by this company for over a month. I have had them call my place of employment and threaten coworkers to find me. They call and leave endless messages that the driver is "on his way to get your vehicle". All this for ONE missed payment - 32 days late. Now I realize a contract does not allow for missed payments and they have every right to repossess the vehicle. However, just stop with the calls and bring your truck!

I called the day before my payment was due to discusss arrangements as I am going through some difficult times. My intent is not to default on my loan and I was merely trying to keep the lines of communication open. The "manager" I spoke to was not only disrespectful, but openly LAUGHED at me on the phone because I was trying to explain my situation. I asked him not to be rude which merely escalated his poor behavior to the point of yelling at me. I have never been treated like this by a business in all my life.

The sad thing is, I wanted to speak to someone to report this unprofessional behavior, but pretty much everyone in the company has the same attitude. I think this is the source of my frustration. I understand by not paying my bill, I breached the contract and it is ultimately my fault. However, quit harrassing me and take the car!

I would encourage anyone to refuse to purchase a vehicle from a dealer who uses this company for financing, refuse to buy any vehicle financed through this company. I will never, ever do business with them again.

they do what they want and the government lets them run amuck! they are jerks and i will never ever in my life give this company another penny! don't let them threaten you with i'll attch your wages crap either! send them 5.00 and if they accept they are up the creek! then they have to accept 5.00 until the balance is paid! i think everyone that has a loan with them should quit paying and let the company go belly up. they called here and my husband answered the phone they were talking about another loan holder and laughing he was on the phone for 15 minutes listening to them laugh about what they had said to him and scared him and he went and made the payment. my suggestion to anyone who is having problems with them give it back! they hate this and then it turns into a screaming match and in the end you'll feel better. trust me! i have went round and round with them! and told them to come and get it asap! like yesterday! they drove by and shined their spotlight in my house windows at midnight and the car was right there! scare tactic! then they call and say we're going to assign it! ASSIGN IT AND COME GET IT! THEY CALLED AND LEFT A MESSAGE AND THEY SAID F**K and i called them right back and cursed them out! they have very poor communication skills! and the government is avoiding them! close them down and sell all their loans out! maybe then i could work with the other comapny and keep my car! they called me and told me they were from the sherriff's department and then they told me they were from the federal government and they were an attorney. i have caller id. it was a cell phone number! i forwarded this to my attorney.and then they would not answer the phone! could it be that it was from an attorney office on their caller id? and that maybe scared them. well they have called about 12 times today starting at 7 am. and these calls will last until about 10pm tonight! it does'nt really bother me. call as many times as you would like! some good advice like stated above if the dealership says CPS run like the wind! i mean like the wind!

Consumer Portfolio Services About company personally

One thing is for sure. I worked at Consumer Portfolio Services before. I was relieved of my duties when I wasn't able to conduct myself in a professional matter on the phone. I was almost forced to treat customers unlawfully. I was mistreated by my supervisor while residing there and also my manager. I was called slow, I was told I was not fit for the job; you know what... I was fit for the job just not the illegal tactics they deliberately wanted me to perform. I was told not to do anything illegal in front of the VP and Manager because we could be fired yet they were the ones enforcing us to retrieve the payments any way we can. Even if it meant falsely stating that the vehicle was in repossession status when it wasn't. If anyone wanted to file a law suit on the company, please do count me in on the law suit. I will be a benefit to anyone considering I was on the inside and they attempted me to conduct illegal tactics on customers.

I agree 100% with all of the above complaints. I don't even have an account with them, my brother put me down as a reference on his auto loan. Now with the economy the way it is he has fallen behind on his payments. I've been getting numerous phone calls from them wanting me to advise my brother everything from "they are reposessing his truck", to "call them", to "their having an attorney start a lawsuit", , they are terrible. I have asked them numerous times to have my info removed from the file as my brother did not have my permission to even put me down for a reference and that I haven't talked to him in months that we don't communicate any longer and they still call me. The last 3 calls I've received were all from a Larry out of the Illinois office and he is, in my opinion, a terrible representative. I advised him that upon speaking with my attorney after the last call to advise him that this is now considered harassment and that I am invoking public law 95-101 and that I do not want any further contact from him or CPS regarding this account. I asked him for a mailing address as I need to send them a written request to stop contacting me and advising I've invoked public law 95-101, he advised me they had attorneys too and wasn't worried about it and proceeded to give me an address in California, which from what I've found on the web has nothing to do with Minnesota accounts. If there is any type of civil action taking place on them by all means count me in, my email is skinskiinc4@yahoo.com and I'll send an email to the above individuals as well. Thank you for taking the ball on this.

I agree, and I am glad you came forward to help. I have already contacted my attorney to start legal procedures. I have been collecting notes and dates on CPS's representative for 3 years. I would love to get your insight as well as start a national class action suit against this company. My email is tjoseph@neo.rr.com.

Consumer Portfolio Services They do not know what they are doing!

These people are uneducated to be dealing with the public. I called and told them my situation, they told me ok we can work with you. Got everthing squared away, oh no I called them today to make a payment and the ugly B**** I spoke with told me I owed $200.00 in late fees? I have spoken with different people everytime I call and NOT ONE TOLD ME THIS. I told the lady I spoke with that she works with a bunch of DumbA** who obv. dont know what they are doing, she proceeded to call me a DumbA** for not looking at my account or my bank statements! OH I can not stand this company! They also call numberous times a day if you do not make the payment early in the AM on the day it is due! Can these people really do this? I have also tried search for an email address to contact them with and there is NOTHING! How is this possible?

I do not work for CPS, but rather the car business who deals with deadbeats all the time. There is always an excuse, figure it out. What would I have managed better, well first of all if you couldn't afford to help with the funeral arrangements you should have said so or used money from savings. As for the deer jumping through your window, why didn't your insurance take care of that, as far as I can see that shouldn't prevent you from knowing what the hell is going on in your bank account. No matter what happens to you it is your responsibility to manage your finances accordingly. Again with the excuses, if you had good credit and didn't have a history of bad credit you wouldn't be financed with CPS, rather a credit union with an excellent interest rate so I don't believe the "my account has always been up to date" if that was the case then why the hell are you financed with CPS? They specialize in bad credit, you know people who don't pay thier bills? If you are living on 45% of your income then do as such, don't buy cars and spend money on things you can't afford. You have to understand that I hear excuses all day long and I am no different than anyone else, things happen to me and I take responsibility and do what I am supposed to do, I don't live beyond my means and I have a savings account with 6 months of living expenses. Poor planning on your part does not consitute an emergency on anyone elses. FYI they can reposess your car whenever they want, read the contract.

I manage my bank account just fine and you obviously have no understanding at all. My account was always up do date until the last summer. During the summer we had 2 elderly relatives pass away, neither of which had any prepaid burial needs, so the relatives had to pony up the money for bare mininum memorials which included cremations (the cheapest). In addition to that I had a 300 lb deer jump through my windshield while I was driving 70 mph. It was on a rural highway, at night and could not have been avoided in any way. So now I am off work and disabled, my husband and I are both in our 60's and we are now living on 45% of our regular income. What part of that would you have managed better? Hell you probably work for CPS.

OK, so these people are nasty and harassing. Yes, I deal with them every month, thay start calling the day after my payment is due, they call every day sometimes from "Blocked Number" and even after the payment is made they keep calling, nobody there knows what any body else has done. They have repeatedly threatened to repo my car when the payment is only a few days late and now they are asking for posted dated check numbers, as a matter of fact the woman I just spoke with told me I had given them 2 post dated check numbers (that never happened).
The man who took my payment information today was speeding like crazy and I told him so, he said oh I'm sorry, he didn't deny it, then he transferred me to a woman who insisted that because I just made the Nov payment today and the next payment is due the 18th of this month I had 2 payments due and the man shouldn't have taken the one payment. I patiently tried to explain to her that the Dec payment wasn't due until the 18th, she said that if it wasn't paid by the 30th she would have my car repoed. Just before I hung up on her she did say she would have a manager call me later today. I don't think they can repo my car when it's only a couple of weeks past due.
So the real question is; what can we do? I mean legally what can we do about the threats and harassment? If there is anything we can legally do, count me in?

I have an even better idea! Why don't you just make your payments on time! Crazy thought huh? That will avoid all late fees and phone calls. And they are right, you should manage your bank account a little better.

You maybe speaking with different people at that company, they work in teams. What they usually do is have one person with the account. When they have a problem getting that individual to pay, they have another team member call. At times, we would all call the same person at the same time whether it be at the job, at home, a neighbor, cell phone, or a relatives house. Who ever you speak to knows you've been spoken to already. Not only that, when inputting info. in the computer, we as the call center reps can place anything we want in the computer as notes. All them people you speak to are usually sitting right next to one another. I use to do it, I know. Send a letter stating you don't want them calling your phone any longer and they have to adhere to that. I understand at times they don't yet, they log all calls through there phone system. As long as you have the date and time, who your representative is... if they violate your request not to be called at certain #'s (even if they violate once) a lawsuit can and should be filed. ESPECIALLY WITH THAT COMPANY! It's horrible. Some of the supervisors don't know what they are doing in regards to finance. It's ridiculous.

Consumer Portfolio Services Over pay

I called to get a pay off for my car. They are telling me I owe $11, 000.00+ . I don't see how when I've been paying on the car for 3 years. When I got the car it was only $17, 000. +. So if you figure it up I've paid over $12, 000.+ in the last 3 years. So how can I still owe over $11, 000. If you can find out way please let me know. They say they will repo the car. After learning of this, I told them to come get the car. I'm I wrong.?

I say one thing something really needs to be done about this over paying, all because of interest.

look at your original loan papers, i have the same thing, i bought the car for 17, 500 but after interest (when i bought the car i didn't even look at what i would actually be paying, i was a kid) i will be paying 29, 000! its crazy but thats what happens

Do you know what the interest rate was on the car when you purchased it?

Interest is compounded annually and you pay the bulk of the interest off before your payments generally apply to the principal (EG the actual amount of the car).

Unfortunately they are probably right - but you should check into it. They should be able to explain it to you.
