Company information:
compucredit
United States

I had an imagine card for almost 3 years and faithfully paid on time and would get increases in my credit limit every 6 or so months. In august 2009 I went to the website to check my balance and was redirected to tribute credit card. It noted that imagine card has been closed and it has now changed to tribute card and that a new card would be comming in september. I received the card in september and when I went to use it, it was decllined. I called tribute (the number on the back of card) and spoke with someone who barely spoke english, he told me tribute was closed and compucredit was now handling the account, and that there would be no payment due until october 2009. Before the due date in october, I was receiving phone calls from compucredit stating that my account was overdue and when could they expect payment. I told them about what I was told no payment due for october, they told me not true, and also let me know that the payments would now go from 37.00 a month to 79.00 per month stating that was up to them to decide how much my payments would be monthly. I also told them that I didn't think it was fair to be charging me almost 10.00 per month handling fee. I have kept a log and they have called me 56 times since then, sometimes 3 or 4 times per day with different phone numbers on the caller id but, it always says compucredit. They even called me and left a message that they were calling from bank of america and would call back at another time, but, they are so dumb because it showed it was compucredit not bank of america. Is this legal? What can I do about this. I have sent my october payment and the new one is due in a couple of days but, they won't stop calling me. They are very mean and rude and deceptive.

look at the local laws in your state concerning your rights when a company is bought out also, have them put you on their do not call list, if at that point they call you, log the calls and take them to court, it a 250 dollar fine per call paid to you.
