Collegiate Housing Services Inc is too good to be true. Everything seems fine on paper, and they make it seem like things will work out with a stress free environment. I am currently and unemployed student using student grants and loans to get my way through college. This housing services has chosen to move me about one time ever six months. This I could live with, it wasn't bad nor did it cause me any stress. Until the decided to move me into an apartment that was filled with bed bugs. Now at the time I didn't know what bed bugs where. How to tell they where there. Or even how to tell that you had them besides the bites on my legs.

I lived for about one full year with bed bugs and there so called treatments that never worked. When I talked with the bed bug people they said, "Once its in the furniture there's really no getting rid of em unless you replace said furniture." This I could not live with as it directly affected my studying. Then they opted me to be moved to a new apartment, which was forced and I had to. I thought this was a great idea though I would have the chance to get away from the bugs and return to my studies and move on with my life. Well that was short lived after one month of living there.

In this new house I knew where and how to find bed bugs. I did the checking and the searching I found nothing but after one month of living there the room across the hall was showing signs. Guess I should have checked there two :(. Lesson well learned, but that's not why collegiate housing is screwing me. Now I was living in a new place with bugs I didn't bring over yet again. The proof was solid that I didn't bring them there and would be hard pressed to prove that an infestation that high could be proven as my fault. So then I went through the normal procedures yet again. Things didn't work out well this time to it seemed. Though near the end of my stay at that apartment the bugs as far as I knew they where gone. They where not in my living space.

So then Collegiate Housing services decides to move me yet again. This time though when they move me they have to do a bug treatment on my new apartment. They called it a heat treatment that was going to cost me and my roommate's around 1, 430 dollars each. Now it's not my fault that the bugs where in any of my apartments. Yet they choose to charge me. Currently they are trying to evict me over this. Because in Collegiate housing when a bill is passed due your rent you pay them goes to paying off any bills you haven't covered. This mean's according to them I have payed rent in a while even though I only gave them the cash for rent and nothing else.

Then the refused to accept two hundred and Fifty dollars as payment for my rent not this over priced bill they are tying to make me pay. They say I was negligent in telling them that we still had bugs in our house. When from my area of the house there where NO BUGS. How do you call this fair? How would you wanna live knowing that if they choose to do something unless you take it to court they will try to screw you out of your money. Well currently I am going to court with them and I feel that they may win. As I am a student attending college with NO income. Not sure what I am going to do, but there is know way i am going to back down and let them try and screw me out of my home. I'll see em in court and I'll do everything to win my case.

The issue was resolved, due to diligence on my housing directors working with the housing services. I wrote this out of anger and was literally the situation I was in. Now they have decided to settle and things are finally going back to normal. Thank you collegiate housing and sorry for this post.

MOLD! There is no way CHS did not know about the extent of the mold within the apartment I leased. In the contract there is a statement related to mold in the apartments. It stated that mold only makes people who do not have a normal immunity system sick.

I have asthma and a compromised immunity from a medical condition. I trusted CHS to provide a safe and clean environment. I have photos and made them aware I was requesting a refund. Crickets..

My son lives in San Francisco, Ca he lives in the Housing there before the rent is due the office is calling him telling him he better pay the rent or he will be evicted. They gave him a NOTICE TO PAY RENT OR QUIT he was not 30 days late. At the first of the month we were trying to pay online they blocked us so we could not pay. Then they started to call. I talked to one of the people in Indiana she was VERY rude and hung up in my face I called the supervisor and she didn't do anything she said she had a bad day. They came up with extra money they were trying to get the students to pay also when he first moved up there. I tried to call and talk to Amanda Wylie they put me on hold then the girl (Tabbtia) said she was on the other line I called back thirty min later she said she was on the other line this was 6/16/09 at 11:46 and at 12:24 these peolpe have very bad attitudes and are unprofessional ad over charging these students my son pay $965.00 along with three other students in the same apartment. They will keep calling your phone over and over it is very stressful for them to keep doing that I have asked them not to keep calling but they do anyway. The supervisor isn't any better they need to be put out of business and give people back their money. Debra Ortiz

I too am going through a similar deal with collegiate housing, myself and another Army Vet was kicked out with a two day notice.
He was lucky he was from the area I had to find a place and got lucky to find a extended stay with no down payment. for $750.00.
But still had to drop out of school because i couldn't afford that without using all my savings. It all started about three weeks after moving into the apartment. A bed bug treatment Man shows up and say's we have an appointed treatment time on that day and time, He told me they put papers on the door but I didn't see them and no one else did either. The second time he came another guy wasn't ready. weeks go buy two guys left after graduating and then me and the other Army Vet get a eviction notice the day was DEC 08 2014 we was due out by DEC 10 2014. The last I checked stat law was 30 days notice. When I the guy that ran the program if I was kicked out of CHS he was acting sketchy but said no, all I could get him to assure me was help in finding a place elsewhere. Now they are trying to hit me up with a 1, 500.00 bill. I called and tried to talk the people and they were rude from the start. If they want to play a ARMY Vet this way that's cool. I have alot of bothers and sisters in uniform and retired that will have my back. I will go on facebook and inform my comrades about this crap game on.

My first week I was in CHS my truck was broke in to. They put us into an apartment with drug dealer and addicts. The neighborhood they put us in there were three murders and kidnappings and a seiral killer across the street. There were over ten cars stolen from our parking lot in six months. When we ask to move they said we had to wait four months before we could get out of this area. So when we went back and talk to them again they had no record of us coming in and talking to them. After a roommate dropped out they did not notice that he did not turn in his keys so they picked one of us at random and charged me one hundred and fifty dollar for the keys.
When I turned my keys in they took photo copies of them. They also charged me for the shower head that was broke when we moved in. They said shower head was broke and they were going to have it fixed. I went in when I found out about the the keys I went and talked to them and told them that I did turn in the key. They tell me that they would take care of it. So now three weeks later I get an eviction notice that I owe them two hundred and seventy six dollars. The eviction notice is a three day notice. That I got on 2/12/14 and I had to be off the premises on the 10th. We have a roommate that steal our food and any thing he can get his hands on. He punches holes in the walls. Know we have gone to CHS about this guy so many times its not funny and they tell us one more week just one. This there only response. Management has no idea of what they are doing I went and paid my rent and the next day they called wanting to know what the money was for. So they don't hire people who know what they are doing they just hire a warm body to fill the seat. They don' t care where they put you. They don' t help with an of the problems that occur. But then what can you expect when they hire people with no education to work for them.

I am also a victim of Collegiate Housing Services. In 2012 my son attended school in PA. I co signed my son's lease. I was shocked to see the conditions of the apartment my son moved in. I was completely disgusted, horrified and appalled when I saw the other two apartments my son was moved in. In 6 months he was in 3 different apartments. Every move I would get this outrageous cleaning fees. the second apartment cleaning fee was for $1, 037.00. My son only lived there for 1month an a half. I refused to make this payment. They sent pictures, and said that my son and roommates cause all those damages. They said that the same charges were applied to all the students. It means that they made $3, 111.00 just by relocating students to another apartment, and accusing them of damaging the apartment. The damages were already there when this students moved in . Then I received a letter saying that my son was been evicted from the third apartment for non payment of rent. My son's rent was paid every month by the 23th. They also added late fees in my son's account. I called several times, eventually I found out that the money I was sending to pay my son's rent was been used to pay the cleaning fees for the second apartment. At this point I was sick of CHS, I decided to find my son a more suitable place to live. Then I get a bill from CHS for the amount of $2.490.11 Reparation/maintenance, Rent charge, Late charge, another late charge, Cancellation, Lease termination, Lease termination admin fee. I called again to asked if they were out of their minds. They kindly decided to remove the late fees since I paid my rent in time every month. What?... I thought my son was been evicted for non payment of rent?. So my new bill is $2, 248.73 plus $787.06 for collection fees, making a total of $3, 035.79.
CHS has put an incredible amount of stress in my life, and my son's life. They have destroyed my credit beyond believe. I can't even get a job in government agencies that require clearance. It would be so easy to pay the money, but I refuse to let CHS continue to take advantage of innocent people. I am just a single mother trying to get my son through school. I don't have much resources. We all have to get together. Join forces and make sure CHS get the consequences they deserve. They have taking advantage of to many people already, and they continue to do it. Please feel free to contact me to my e mail account hair.stylist4u@yahoo.com. I know in my heart all of us together can do something to stop CHS from victimizing more people.

This company preys on unsuspecting students and parents. Your stories are just a few of many that I have found online when I began searching to see if others had experiences similar to ours. My son was signed with CHS in Mooresville, North Carolina. We are currently fighting with CHS regarding fees after we chose to move our son from their housing due to a concern for his safety and well being.

Please feel free to tell your story on the FB page Collegiate Housing Services Complaints. I can only hope that as more people share their stories a lawyer will take a legal stand against CHS. If not, perhaps together we can save others from suffering the same fate as many of us already have.

@ Indianapolis Apartment Manager: Your an Idiot! Collegiate Housing Services IS DOWN RIGHT STUDENT LOAN DICK IN THE ### RAPE!
***COLLEGIATE HOUSING SERVICES IS RAPE!***
First off the apartment I live in cost 1, 300 normally, but me and my roommates collectively pay 3, 200 a month! $620 a/mo for your own room, and $520 a/mo to share a room. Two of us have our own rooms, and four other people living in two small bedrooms. If your counting manager there is six ADULTS, full grown men living in a $1, 300 a/mo, but were paying 3, 320 a/mo So Ms Manager if you don't know math Collegiate Housing Services is stealing $24, 240 a year from our apartment alone to just have a bedroom! The "pre-furnished" furniture consists of second hand/torn up couches, scratched up dressers, and tiny ### uncomfortable bed. Honestly I wish I had RAPE whistle when i signed my lease.
Location, Location, Location! Oh boy did they ever give us a good location! The first week we moved in the store was robbed twice, and the clerk was rapped in broad daylight(probably by Collegiate Housing Services). Theres a treasure-trove of bums right at the corner of street waving there "Homeless: Please Help". Its a great mental image i bet, and one you love to see in the morning when going to school.
*** COLLEGIATE HOUSING SERVICES IS RAPE!***
No right to privacy when you sign a lease with Collegiate Housing SERIAL RAPIST Services. At any time they can walk into your apartment and do random checks. This last week I was sleeping when they came for 'inspections", AND I WAS SLEEPING, when I didn't answer my bedroom door CHS RAPER called maintenance to come break down the door! Good thing my roommates got me up because I would have had to pay for the door that the RAPIST busted down.
To finalize this rant about the RAPING SERVICES proved by Collegiate Housing. Seriously you think you can break the lease and just move out? You are George Bush dumb if you believe that hog wash Manager lady from Indiana. So, when it comes to terminating the lease you have to pay two months rent to break the lease! So cool I get to pay the person RAPING me an extra $1, 240 just so they will stop RAPING me! Ms manager I know your from Indiana so I'm pretty sure you didn't learn about economics or finance in your hoosier schools, and I'm sorry about that. But to hand over $24, 240 of federal funding, as well as student loans, to a company that just finds students a place to live is just ridiculous and is just not financially smart. BELIEVE ME! I AM GETTING A HOLD OF THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU in Denver so they can investigate these RAPING'S!
***MY STUDENT LOANS ARE FOR COLLEGE, AND NOT TO PAY A COLLEGE STUDENT RAPER! COLLEGIATE HOUSING SERVICES IS RAPE!***

Being in the apartment buisness Im amazed that you kids dont understand that Collegiate Housing ISNT the apartment management, they are NOT responsible for someone getting bed bugs, nor anything relating to your apartment experience. Simply put, Collegiate Housing helps students who may or may not be able to get an apartment lease. The student isnt tied down to a legal contract with the apartment community by using Collegiate Housing services and will be able to leave the apartment community without being tied down to lease breaking fees, application fees, deposits ETC. Bed Bugs are an epidemic! A huge problem which everyone likes to point fingers and blame someone else for the problem. The problem is.. how do you proove who to blame? Not to mention the services to treat Bed Bugs are costly!
I see this as misplaced anger over a very real and bothersome bug problem.

Collegiate Housing Services is a scam that preys on unsuspecting students. They take no responsibility for the condition of the apartments they place you in. They also take no responsibility for the roommate placement. You don't get to choose your roommate as they promise. They simply assign people you do not know to share a room with. You don't even get to meet that person first. They just show up with a key to your place. If questionable activities are being conducted they tell you it isn't their responsibilty and to contact the school. The school can do nothing since the contract for housing is with an outside company. But still the biggest problem is with their rent collection procedures. My daughter inadvertently wrote the wrong amount on her rent check. CHS said nothing and made no attempt to contact her. Then 3 months later sent her an eviction notice. The notice was never retracted even after the proper amount was paid to them. So she left the housing and found an apartment on her own. Now almost 7 years later they are contacting her wanting money. They cannot give a detailed statement of what these charges are for, they can only tell her it is for "mostly fines and fees" what ever that means. Now they are filing a civil suit against her and myself for this unfounded and undocumented amount of money. BEWARE of CHS !

I agree totally. Collegiate Housing Services...is a joke. I moved in, the appartment was ok. The walls were damaged and the appliances are antiquated. But that was not really my issue. I have a roommate issue. CHS is all about making money. If they have a problem with students and they end up getting evicted for destroying property, theft or drug use...they don't drop them from collegiate housing...they just move them in with someone else. I was told that my roommate was moving out the week of his move. I was never told there was a replacement on the way. Said new roommate was given a key without ever have met him. He just walks in and my roommate had not moved out yet. If nobody was in the appartment when the new guy showed up he could have stolen everything we had and walked away without us ever having known about it and just told everybody that he hadn't been to the appartment yet. I could have lost everything. And CHS takes no responsibility for items stolen from your appartment. There is a major problem with this organization and nobody seems to care in the least.
