We owe "Nothing but great service' that is the statement Mr. Dan Reif, eBay Sales Manager wrote when finishing the paperwork of the purchase of the vehicle, which for the sake of privacy I will not display information about.
Purchase date was 02/23/2008, and including in a 60-day, 2000 mile warranty, which I had to use given that only after 1, 090 miles on mileage of purchase 69, 106, there were deffects on the transmission. Coggin responded w/ a portion of the bill cutting a check for USD 244.64 (total repairs were USD 376.31), but furthermore to my surprise my mechanic alarmed pointed aout extensive and heavy corrossion throughout the undercarriage, frame, all four break drums, exhaust system, muffler, etc.. Of course this was not indicated on the checklist nor by mr. dan Reif when I testdrove the car.
So for the second time I had to drive to Ft. Pierce (+/- 200 miles) on 04/12/2008 since a second negative opinion was given by the regular shop where I do the regular oil change. The shop indicated leaking of rear cylinder brakes with an estimate of USD 289.95.-
At the dealer the car was jacked up at their shop. The persons who looked at the vehicle were Dan Reif (sales manager), Laurie Ebner (body shop manager) and Gary Hunter (mechanic manager). Mrs. Ebner indicated that the heavy corrosion imposed a safety issue on the brake system. For a total overhaul of the car's body, it would have to be disasembled and sandblasted w/ a cost of over USD 6, 000, just a few dollars short of the sales price.
Finalized the inspection Dan Reif and mysef met with store manger Mr. Matt McNeal. Given the safety situation of the car I proposed to reverse the deal, he opposed. He was willing to take back the car for the same sales price (sales tax not included) and trade it in for another vehicle of the inventory. This was agreed by word and hand shake.
After leaving Mr. McNeal, Mr. Reif recognized and overlook by by the time of the inspection of the cr and indicated that had they known the problem the car would not have been placed for sale on the internet but, sent to auction. Mr. Reif also agreed on to make his upmost effort to 'exchange' the car. I would have to bear with the sales tax of the new car. This was agreed also.
And what do you think, words and good intentions are gone with the wind... The 'very best effort' of Mr. Reif never happened, nor has the replacement of cars taken place and my emials to him are deleted without being read.
Now I am stuck with a 'lemon', USD 7, 200 down the tube..., thank you for "Nothing but great service"!
