Champion Windows sun room

Very disappointed - big mistake ordering from this company. We purchased our screen porch in late summer of 2017 and promised to have our room installed in December. When negotiating the price, we were given a "discount" to wait until December because they were behind on installations. We were convinced to apply for their financing for down payment with program to pay only interest while we waited for the install.

When December approached we attempted to contact Josh, the project manager several times and never received a call back. When finally visited the showroom in person, we were given a promise to resolve issue but again no follow up or call back from the project manager ever. January, February, March without a definite install date and project manager avoiding our calls, we made the decision to contact the finance company to file a complaint that we were paying for something we never received. Their finance company called on our behalf and guess what - we got a call that the work would begin the next day and there was no need to call them back.

At this point we decided to cancel the order because of their poor customer service and lack of confidence in this company - if they don't call us back to build we're pretty sure they will avoid us if problems come up and not have issues resolved. We felt strongly that we could not trust this company to perform structural work on our home.

We are now stuck paying $1, 000 to the finance company for absolutely nothing! In the end we felt we fell prey to their promises and scam to finance through them. So disappointed we didn't get our sun room and even more disappointed we are $1, 000 in the hole. We went with this company because they are a national chain and family members have purchased from them in other states. So disappointed and after going through this experience can honestly say this is how they operate with all customers - buyers beware!

Champion Windows siding

Champion Windows of Boise on Franklin Road doesn't know their product line or how to install their product. We waited for MONTHS for them to complete a simple (less than 1, 400 sq. feet) siding job. We told them our windows looked less than professional on several occasions and they have completely ignored us. It took them two times to get our fascia so that it looked half-way presentable. If you want nothing but frustration and the run around, contact Champion Windows of Boise, Idaho on Franklin Road.

Champion Windows warranty replacement of 2 windows.

I have 2 replacement windows on order from July 24, 2017 & August 24, 2017. On the July window I was told 4-6 weeks & on the August window 8 weeks, then changed to 12 weeks. This is not an acceptable waiting period for the 2 windows. I have called the Denver location several times for the status of the windows & spoke with Kim & Mi. They keep telling me they will call me & don't, so I have to call them. I feel someone has dropped the ball or is not getting the job done within a reasonable amount of time. Winter is approaching & I need the windows. Can someone expedite these please?

Champion Windows windows and sliding door

The house I bought was full of Champion Windows and their siding. I had sliding doors installed and three front windows replaced not completed by the previous owner. I have constant condensation on all of the windows in the house all winter. I now have black mold ONLY around the window sills and the woodwork around the windows. I cannot help but blame Champion since the installation had to be faulty since the mold is only around the windows THEY installed. The sliding door is faulty. The rollers no longer function making it near impossible to open and close the door. In addition, the lock on the door is not working properly. The products they sell are extremely expensive and guaranteed. They removed their office out of my home town. They now ask for you to pay their gas for travel when fixing anything? Is there any reason ANYONE should do business with them? I don't think so!

Champion Windows vinyl siding

This company provides zero customer service. The project started a day late and then there was excuse after excuse why hardly anyone showed up to do the work. A project that should have taken 4-5 days ended up taking 11 days. It was clear that the Champion installers were working at another site at the same time. To finish the job they annoyingly showed up on a Sunday with a full crew for the first time. After they finally finished they told us the dumpster and pallets blocking our driveway would be removed in 1-2 days. 6 days later they were still in place. When we called the dumpster company directly, they told us that they wouild not pick it up for another 6 days. The job that Champion performed was average, nothing special. Given the aggrevation and the finished product, it was a huge mistake to sign on with them.

Champion Windows unethical behaviour and product still not completed

To whom it may concern,
Which with Champion Windows, no one there is concerned. So, this is to warn everyone else who might be thinking about using this company. DON’T! My wife and I decided to use Champion Windows of Atlanta to get 19 new windows installed in our home. One of the main reasons we went with them was the salesman stated that they do not use subcontractors to install their product, this is a lie. Two - they stated that they would seal the windows so no air would come thru the seals - and the casing would have foam inside to protect the seals from water damage, rot, and insects. This is a lie.
Let’s begin on the installation day, which I was told would only take one day. The crew shows up, its pouring down rain outside, they look like a bunch of crack heads and have no rain gear. Their truck and trailer looks like they just came from the dump along with their cloths and had nothing that identified them as a Champion employee. I asked them if they worked for Champion or if they were sub-contractors. They stated they were all employees of Champion. I was appalled by this and it made me worry about what product was fixing to be installed in my home.
I offered to let them use my garage for a work space, so they could be out of the rain, I gave them rain jackets, and I had to put towels down in my home to keep them from tracking mud through the house. Which is when they asked if “do I have new carpet or was it old?” – hmmm - (I replied: “what does it matter - it’s MY carpet”).
They start removing windows and installing new windows and just throwing the trash on the ground and in the floor of my home (they did not put any plastic or drop cloths down anywhere and kept asking me for paper towels). They get about half way thru the windows and they come to one of the windows that needs the seal replaced (which is the reason I needed new windows and was part of the deal I had with the salesman). Instead of replacing my seal, the lead guy stated he was just cutting out the rotted wood and was going to fill in the gap with foam and that the foam was stronger than wood. I stated if that’s true then why are we not building house’s out of this foam. He argued with me for about 15min in the rain and then stated “your right I will replace it” and asked where a Home Depot was. So, he came unprepared to do the job and had no intention of doing it correctly from the start.
After his trip to Home Depot he asked me if they could return the next day to finish the job. I asked what time will you be here and how long will it take, since I now must accommodate you even more and change my plans to accommodate his crew and his schedule. He stated he could be at my house at 800 a.m. and would be done by noon. I agreed (which was another mistake I made, the first hiring Champion Windows, second allowing this crew to be on my property). So, the crew picks up their tools puts them in my garage and leaves. Leaving all their trash in my yard in my garage in my home and on my roof.
The next day (Sunday) the crew does not show up until 930 a.m. and did not call to say sorry running late or apologize for being late in the first place. Instead he states he did not agree to being there at 800 and that I did not know what kind of week he had and he’s been working every day and he did not want to be here anyways. His words not mine. So, I told him to pack up his things and get off my property. They did leaving my wife and I about 4 hours of cleaning up after them, including picking up screws, glass, and nails left on my driveway (not sure how many are in my yard, guess I will find them when my lawn mower gets flat tires).
Now the phone calls begin, starting with calling the salesman, the Atlanta location and their corporate office in Cincinnati Ohio. This leads to a lot of arguing, Champion employees not caring or being concerned with my issue and telling me they cannot get a crew out there on Monday, they were not going to make another customer reschedule so they could complete a job they started. They sent a crew manager out to my home on Monday to look at the issues and to reschedule my job for another day. He came out stated that the job would have been completed if I would not kick his crew off my property. I stated your so-called crew left me no choice and their work shows for it. We agreed on Champion sending another crew out on Thursday to complete the job. He stated he would be here and he would bring his best guys to complete it.
Thursday, crew arrives on time and they begin to work. They start by removing 99% of the work that was already done and redoing it. We get to the seals that need to be replaced. I am watching the work being done and am next to one of the workers (I have been a police officer for 7 years), I look at him and ask him how much marijuana have you smoked today (the odor coming from would knock you down). He stated - none – but that he was around a guy smoking it this morning. I asked him if it was another person on the crew (knowing that he was lying and that he did smoke it that morning) he stated I don’t want to get anyone in trouble but yes, the guy in the shorts. I then went to their crew leader (same guy that was there on Monday) and pulled him to the side and talked with him about the issue. After he spoke with his crew, the original guy I accused of smoking brought me two cigarette packs with 7 marijuana roaches, one marijuana cigarette, and 2 plastic bags of containing raw marijuana in it. The crew leader asked me not to lock his workers up and not to tell Champion, that he would be fired. As a police officer, I do have the right to lock them up or give a warning. Since I have been inconvenience 4 days, I decided to be nice (another mistake) and let the guys go and get back to work.
So, work continues with another crew member stepping thru my bathroom ceiling and creating a nice hole in it and cracking my sheet rock in 3 areas. He is fine and the crew leader assures me that he can have a sheetrock guy at my home the next day (the best guy in the business).
Finally, all windows are installed and I am walking around inspecting each window with the crew leader. Every window had to be re-caulked and 4 windows needed to have the metal casing they put on fixed (had dents and bows in them). The crew leader said he would be back tomorrow with one guy and the sheetrock guy to complete everything and make my house whole again (5th day I must accommodate Champion Windows).
Friday, crew shows up and starts working. The sheet rock guy (best in the business, NOT) made every spot he touches look worse than it was. I had him fix the hole 3 different times until he gave up. The crew leader left around 130 p.m. and the window guy stayed to complete any issues with the windows while the sheet rock guy made a mess. The two guys start cleaning up (which I don’t think they know what the word clean means) while I inspected their work.
Sheet rock repair still need to be repaired, windows still need to be finished correctly. I asked the window guy if he would be happy with this job, if it was done on his home. He stated, one I wouldn’t pay this much for windows and no he this job was not done correctly. HE then pointed out some issues with the install. I asked him why didn’t you fix them, you have been here all day? He shrugged his shoulders and no reply. The two workers packed up their tools (leaving me 2 hours of cleaning) and left.
I called the crew leader, he texted me back and stated “give me 45 minutes and I will call you back” (still have not heard back from him). I called corporate, they stated that there is nothing they will do to make me whole and that was their company policy. The Atlanta district manager was supposed to call me but corporate stated he was busy and that he would not be able to do anything for me. I am left with a crap install job, 3 cracks in my ceiling along with a hole to fix and still have trash in my yard. Last spoke with a new person in corporate, whom stated she would check into my issue and call me back.
So, if you are looking for any work to be done on your home, DO NOT call Champion for anything.

In summary:

We expected:
Normal people in champion attire/logos.
Workers on time and being respectful.
Windows to be installed.
4 sills to be replaced.
Job completed in one day.
To be happy, warm and looking at our little house with all new windows all spiffed up.

What we got.
Crack head/meth head narcotics using homeless looking crew – stoned and brining narcotics onto our property.
2 hour delay on day 2.
6 days and counting – job not completed.
Hours of explaining and complaining and convincing to install sills we have paid 18K to install.
We are not happy, exhausted – out buckets of money from missed paid days to accommodate these bozos – frustrated – infuriated – and frankly feeling ashamed that we were ‘had’ buy this crap, underhanded, conniving, schystering, smooth talking, unprofessional bunch of human beings that have been in business for 65 years.

Read their BBB review – what you can stomach of them – no where do you see champion responding in a pleasant, accommodating tone – no where do you see a simple – ‘we apologize’ we will make it right.

Champion Windows patio doors and home improvement

Just in case you're considering Champion for a new patio door, I'm here to warn you to find another brand of door in the landfill, and have it installed in your home. You will be much better off with the discarded door, instead of paying Champion's exorbitant prices in order to give you a shoddy install for their so called, "guaranteed" door. They will also tell you that the Champion patio door is GUARANTEED against all perils for a Lifetime. Again, I'm here to tell you that their LIFETIME is not a human lifetime, because their lifetime ends in two short years. That part of the fine print is not something that you will see or hear them discuss when they dupe you into hiring them. After two years, your door is pro-rated and most anything that goes wrong with it at that point, is the customer's responsibility and NOT theirs. It doesn't matter whether you choose a Champion corporate business or a franchised Champion, they will all swindle your purse-strings/wallet to death. They are one of those companies that's dedicated to making a lot of money and making it fast. To make matters worse, each time we wash the siding at the rear of the house where the patio door is located, water pours into the kitchen due to their unskilled and inadequate installation. They used no sealant, caulk, foam, insulation, flashing, tape, weatherproof membrane or backer rods to keep out the cold air and the water! In addition, the locking mechanism is no longer functioning, and guess who controls all of the parts for the door? That's right it's Champion, and they will charge you a trip fee that is more costly than boring out the door for a new type of lock! You have been warned about dealing with this shyster outfit! They shouldn't even be in business, since they certainly do nothing but wreck people's homes and steal their hard earned money!

Champion Windows replacement of screen door with extra large dog door in it.

Screen door stopped rolling properly in May 2016. Called Champion in Tulsa, OK where we bought our windows and doors in 2012. First said shorthanded, so we removed the screen door and took it to them to have them to access the problem. After several weeks called them to find out the mechanism that holds the roller was broken. They were waiting on parts to fix door. In July, not hearing back from them we called to find out
that they had to order the door. In September we called and found out that
they sent a door WITHOUT the dog door which we refused. So they reordered on a rush which took several more weeks and got a door in that
was too big to fit the frame in our door. Now the locking mechanism on the door is going out so they had to order the parts! It is now almost
December, 7 months and we still have no door and broken lock. They say they are waiting for the replacement but have no idea where in the process the door or parts are but they are checking. This is very poor
customer service and manufacturing if you cannot build a door by the specification on a work order or get replacement parts in a timely manner
particularly after 7 months of waiting patiently for them. Very disappointed in Champion Windows of Tulsa, we really liked your product,
but service after the sale is terrible. We want our screen door now as well
as the lock replaced, we have run out of patience. Jerry & Beverly Berry

Champion Windows windows

My father is in his late 80s. He replaced all his windows in order to clean them easier and avoid a ladder. The windows keep falling out and now he is climbing a ladder to wash them. We have called mutiple time and have been told he will need to pay $99 dollars for them to even come look at them. I am so disappointed in their service. We are told that the windows come with a lifetime guarantee but, they do not stand behind it. I pray that he does not fall . please just want them to stand behind their windows and fix them. I do not know how to attach pictures

Champion Windows replacement sliding glass door

We had our whole house replaced with Champion Windows, 9 windows and 1 sliding glass door. In 2015 the sliding glass door fogged over and was almost I impossible to open and close. They ordered a replacement door which came in around January 2016. Understandably it couldn't be replaced over with nter, however in the spring and summer the company repeatly cancelled every appointment if weather that week was bad and their new paying customers had to have their installation finished. So for a customer who has paid and this will be a nocharge installation we are at the bottom of the barrel. It is now August and no replacement yet. I can only hope they can fitt us into their so called busy schedule before its winter again. Would not recommend this company since they have no loyalty to their customers.

Champion Windows misleading statements, atrocious customer service, rude

Ordered two window replacements in late April 2016. Both salesperson and window measurer told me the windows would be ready for installation several weeks earlier than was stated in my contract (6 weeks). After 4 weeks, I called the office to inquire about installation and was told the windows weren't ready yet. I mentioned the verbal commitments, which were disregarded because they apparently don't stand behind their word. First red flag.
I was enrolled in the wrong finance plan, which took over a week, more than 10 phone calls, and several hours to remedy. I was also told that I'd not have to pay until after installation, and I had to call the finance company to confirm that this assertion was wholly incorrect. Second red flag.
Sales rep called, asked how I was liking my windows - obviously he'd not even looked at my file to see the status of my project. When I noted this as 'miscommunication' within the office, the office manager took umbrage and rudely objected to that characterization. Third red flag.
Supervisor to whom I later spoke said he "wasn't there" for the verbal commitments and thus couldn't say anything on that topic, so apparently they won't trust the customer's word. I only received an apology after I mentioned that no one had yet apologized for wasting my time, but he phrased it as "I'm sorry you feel that way" - not genuine at all. He refused to consider giving me a discount for repeatedly wasting my time and energy. When I asked if they wanted another bad online review, I was told, "that's extortion, and we'll just leave it at that." Nevermind that they'd be getting a bad review from me regardless (though even a $100 discount would have lessened my ire), and such an unfounded accusation has motivated me to more widely distribute my discontent.
Too many red flags to count by this point. I'll be researching my contract to see if I can dissolve it.
Bottomline- they'll make untrue statements to get you to sign a contract, and after they won't much care how they treat you or if you're at all satisfied. Avoid Champion.

Champion Windows windows lose their seal

I do not know the cause, I believe that when the windows lose their seal whatever chemicals they use become visible. Suffice to say, we had 20 windows replaced and over half looks as though someone has smeared crisco all over them. It reduces the appearance and home value. We spent over 10 thousand dollars and ended up with this mess. Since I have been in Law for more than 25 years, I plan to pursue this.

Champion Windows replacement windows and back door

This company is horrible with little to no customer service. We purchased their windows and from day one we had air leaks and then water started to come in through the bottom. When we called they took our information and took weeks to come out and when we discovered the sashes leaking they said it was a 4 to 6 weeks to get the windows in and then they will call us to schedule, but they never called. 8 weeks later we called them and then they took another week to come out. When they came out they brought 1 Window for repair and we had 2 Windows. They said it would be another 4 weeks for the other Window. We had also informed champion of the water damaged wood we had at the back door which the head originally replaced. They replaced the bottom seal but did not address the door seal around the door nor did they address the wood rot. We called to explain all of the areas the crew did not address and they informed us that another visit was necessary to take measurements and create a materials list. That took another couple of weeks. Now we recently called and I asked to speak with the regional manager who had conveniently left for the day at 2:30pm and would be out of the office until Monday. They promised me they would have the regional manager call me on Monday 10/19. We did not receive a call and Tuesday has come and gone and still no one has contacted us. This company will respond to you quickly to have you purchase their products, however they will take forever to address product issues or installation issues. Extremely non responsive, extremely poor quality and leaks the customer service we deserve. They are quick to reply to you if they think you want to order products, however extremely slow on issue resolution and customer care. We do not recommend this company and instead would recommend a company like lowes or home depot where they carry quality products and stand by their installers. At least you will know these companies will address your issues and concerns because they are in your communities and need you business. Champion windows and doors of KC could care less about you after the sale. This has been our experience and this is our opinion.

Champion Windows patio room

We had a patio enclosure that replaced a screened in porch completed by champion. The sliding door screen was spent at installation and the installer said all you have to do is push on it and it'll slide easy and close without scraping. After one year of pushing on this screen door and the screen now comes out of the seam. We recently after about a year and a half have gotten that replaced. We asked them about caulking at the base of the patio enclosure because of leaking water in after a rainstorm, the installer stated we seal the base so that it doesn't leak. Well every time it rained we got water inside the patio and after a long wait a champion service rep did come back and eventually caulk the flooring. But it still leaks and when it rains. We had windows installed above and below the sliding windows and we were told that these would basically repel all the hot South Carolina sunshine. They do not, the windows get so hot you cannot touch them. This is an advertising gimmick that is a lie. These windows that are above and below the sliding windows that open collect dirt on the edge of them and actually the dirt goes on the inside and there is no way to clean this out. Very poor design I cannot imagine what this is going to look like in 10 years. I would never recommend for anybody to buy any type of product from champion windows and patio systems.

Champion Windows sun room leaks

We purchased a 12'x30'x6" sun room from Champion in May of 2014. Customer #12144. I do not feel that we were scammed, we were perfectly happy with the salesman. We are ok with the product. Our issue is with the installation and our inability to get resolution. With the first rain we had water leaking into the inside of the sun room and it has continued with every rain since. We have complained and they have sent out the original installer several times and he has done a lot of cosmetic things (putting in more and more caulk) but has not fixed the problem. We worked with the service manager and he came out and identified a few problems with one corner and it got better but the 30' section of wall continued to leak. I have lost count of the number of trips they have made but the last several have been working with the branch manager. They have added flashing on all 3 walls (covering places that you could see light through) replaced 1 transom window that was cut too small and the installer said he had replaced, and on this last trip completely removed two sections of windows with the transoms above, caulked where it should have been done during the original installation, and reinstalled everything. Two days later we water tested it again (they didn't come out to follow up) and it is leaking worse and in more places than it was before.

All I have wanted from the beginning is for the leaks to be fixed. I have tried to work with the local office. I have lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I have tried to email their corporate office but can only find a "Contact Us" that goes back to the local office to request a quote. Champion Corporate has pretty well isolated itself from feedback from customers. I was able to call corporate customer service twice but they did not return either call. I don't know if they don't care about getting it fixed (it has to be costing them a lot in return labor and even more in bad advertising) or are unable to fix it. I would like to keep it but I am ready to tell them to take it out and give me a refund if they can't fix it. We have been dealing with this for 16 months. As of 10/21/15 this issue has not been resolved.

Update by Randy Wright
Feb 24, 2016 3:36 pm EST

We finally went over the head of our District Manager to the Regional Manager out of Denver. He made a trip out to Utah on the Thanksgiving Day weekend. Since then there is now a new District Manager in Salt Lake City (not saying there is a direct correlation) and the new manager has been out to meet with us. We have a plan in place and hopefully we will have resolution soon. Call your local office and get the number of the next level and push it further up the food chain. Working for us. Good luck.

Thank you for your suggestion Randy. I have had several other problems with their sunroom including windows loosing the seal and a leaking sky light. I was hoping to find someone who was having problems with this polydeck. If you had polydeck and your room was leaking like you show in the pictures, then you would be having the same problem as I have. It makes me wonder if that is what is causing my polydeck to disintegrate. It upsets me that the service manager came here with his mind already made up that I was causing the problem. He never even considered that it might be their fault. I will try to reach the regional office as you suggested. I just wish there was another option for repairing the polydeck instead of having to take this room apart again. It's very expensive and also really inconvenient because I have to empty the whole room to do the work. It's a big job for one person to move furniture. Again, thanks for your suggestion.

I was convinced by the sales representative to add on the polydeck insulation to the floor of my sunroom. Four years ago I found out that if the polydeck gets wet it melts resulting in extreme repairs, including disassembling 2 of the 3 walls and replacing the polydeck. Champion blamed the problem on their electrician mounting a light fixture on the outside wall of the room. Now I notice that the opposite corner of the sunroom is also getting soft. The service manager came out to look at it and he insists that it is my fault because I keep house plants in the porch all year long. Mind you, the sunroom was built in 2006 and I have kept house plants in it for these past 10 years. It is ludicrous that this company refuses to take responsibility for selling a poorly chosen material in the construction of these rooms. I am at my wits end and facing a very expensive repair and major inconvenience again. I am open for suggestions on how to avoid this in the future. I would not only give Champion a very bad reference but I would also tell other people they would be making a grave mistake to do business with a company that does not take responsibility for problems which could have been avoided with just a small amount of product testing.

Champion Windows buy 2 rooms get 1 free scam

Advertising "Buy windows for 2 rooms, get an additional room of windows free." I had Champion install two 32 x 64 windows in 2011; I paid $650 each, which includes install and sheet metal trim. I figured with this new deal/offer, I could get two rooms with 2 smaller windows each (32 x 55), and the third room for free, totaling 6 windows. I also assumed that smaller windows would cost less. Hardly. First, the sales rep said "prices have gone up since your 2011 install." Of course. Then he quoted me $4200 for the six windows. That's $700/window - MORE than I paid for larger windows in 2011 - with NONE of them "free." Basically, they should say "one room free IF YOU PAY FULL RETAIL PRICE FOR THE OTHER TWO ROOMS." Full retail price, OF COURSE, is $1050/window. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I told the guy he was outta his mind; NOBODY pays over $1000 for basic standard size windows!

Beautiful windows until the seals leak. Try to get them to replace them is almost impossible. Then there is the service charge no one tells you about. Don't buy Champion Windows. Go anywhere but Champion.

Champion Windows treated terribly won't recommend

Prior to this event I already called and got quotes from a couple of different window companies in the area. Recently, I called Champion Window Co to get a quote on 6 average size windows for my home. Champion sent out two "project managers" and when I asked them for the estimate, they rudely asked "who will be paying for the windows". Then I said my wife and I would be paying, they said that they would only give a price when they could talk to her. They came back that afternoon to talk to her and a blank piece of paper they wrote $6, 800 for 6 windows. When I asked what is the basis of that price they said "I'm not talking to you", like I wasn't even there. They finally came down to $3, 900 which I found out later was almost twice the amount that one of Champion's competitors charged for the same quality window. These "project managers" were relentless in their pressure and scare tactics with my wife. We realize that Champion Window's seller methods may be legal but their methods are still dishonest and unethical. Nobody deserves to be treated like that especially senior citizens.

I would like to recommend that anyone think twice before dealing with Champion WIndows Co.

Mr. Gold

Champion Windows awful experience, stay away!

Worst company ever! Absolutely awful experience at every turn!

We asked to be fully indemnified for the large crack put in the driveway by the dumpster. It stretches about 15 feet in total length and is very noticeable on what had been a clean looking driveway. (See attached picture)

While discussing the driveway crack the project manager Mick Atwell got hot headed once again, enough that my mother thought there was going to be a fist fight. He was very disrespectful, unprofessional, raising his voice and trying to intimidate us all in front of the division manager Brent Luettel and Brent wasn't doing anything about it! After several minutes of this I finally told him that any employer I've ever worked for, if I talked to a customer the way he was talking to me they would fire me on the spot. At that point the division manager began quieting the project manager up and sent him around back to correct work. It's hard to believe champion being an A+ rated BBB member would allow an employee to talk to their customers the way he talked to me.

While we were trying to discuss the crack the dumpster put in our driveway the hothead project manager also threatened to put a lien on the house! Our family is not full of money, this is the only house my 78-year-old mother has to live in. Her monthly income isn't that much and she is not in any position to have her home taken from her! So we proceeded cautiously under threat of losing our house to this "A+ rated" BBB member.

The project managers experience is either not good or out dated. The deck and landing that they built were not up to current building codes. They failed the city inspection for multiple code violations. They built us a deck such that it was possible a child's head could get stuck between the balusters and the stairs they built on the landing were unsafe and could have caused someone serious injury. I emailed them before the start of the business day on Monday, October 20 listing out a host of things that we needed corrected/resolved. One of those things was that the stairs stringer had just two boards attached underneath holding the stairs up. This was not up to code and was not safe. Decks are actually the most dangerous part of the home structure from statistics that I've read. More people are killed or seriously injured on decks than any other part of the home structure because of unsafe building techniques. We went with champion because we believed we could trust that an"A+" rated BBB company would know how to build a sunroom/deck/landing that it is safe and up to current building codes.

When I notified them early morning before business hours on Monday, October 20 about the stairs and other issues you would think an A+ rated BBB member would put their customer first and reach out to them about their issues and concerns. Not the case here. I had sent the Oct 20 email directly to the division manager and the project manager and also carbon copied the email to [protected]@championfactorydirect.com the general email for champions Kansas City branch. The only response I received was from the project manager ignoring EVERYTHING I wrote in the email except to tell me that the final inspection from the city would be at 3:30 the next day. In his email reply he did not address WHATSOEVER the stairs only being held up by just two boards nor any of the other concerns/code violations!

This company tried to pull a fast one and moved forward with the city inspection in hopes the inspector would not notice the violations and then they would not have to fix the unsafe work they did that wasn't up to current building codes. Why else would they ignore a email with a list of 19 issues and only respond they are moving forward with the city inspection at 3:30 the next day? By the project manager replying to my email, they clearly received my email yet they ignored the issues/concerns and code violations that would need corrected prior to inspection? I even sent them very good pictures illustrating the problems so they could see right away and not have to wait make a special trip to our home. Any experienced engineer looking at those pictures can see the stairs stringers were not attached safely and the metal floor hanger/support was not attached safely either. Yet they push ahead with the inspection before fixing problems brought to their attention? Of course the next day they failed the city inspection on both of those violations and more. When someone pays $36, 000+ of hard earned life savings, it is extremely disappointing to be treated this way. When you communicate clearly including pictures that provide enough compelling evidence and then they move forward with inspection before fixing those violations? Not what we expected from an A+ rated BBB member.

Oct 21, no one from champion even showed up to the city inspection. The city inspector found multiple code violations between the work that champion did and the work champions subcontracted electricians did. City said all of these violations were unsafe and ordered them to be corrected or it would not pass inspection.

At the end of business day on Tuesday, October 21 still no one opening/reading/responding to champion Kansas city's general email, nor the project manager, not even the division manager responded to my concerns emailed before business Monday Oct 20th. Finally 2.5 business days later on the afternoon of October 22 the division manager finally responses to my email from Monday, October 20 yet HE ALSO does not respond to ANY of the issues/concerns/code violations, only emails putting me off two more business days when he wanted take a look in person that Friday, October 24. I emailed him back letting him know I certainly could meet with him that Friday however I had been anxiously awaiting a response since Monday and I would like to hear from someone regarding my concerns as we were already in the fifth week of what was supposed to be a two-week project. Finally on Thursday afternoon October 23, after 3.5 business days of unresponsiveness the division manager responded to the issues/concerns/code violations. By this point they had already failed the city inspection for the code violations.

When the division manager did respond Oct 23rd he dropped a bomb on us. He told us "we don't do French drains". Now from the very beginning with the salesman we had discussed how we wanted French drains and he said it was no problem and it would be in the contract. In the original contract the salesman wrote "2 French drain", but after adding another option to the purchase a new contract was needed and when he wrote up a new contract in that contract he wrote "downspout to connect to French drains". The wording seemed fine to me for shorthand and the salesman had given us no reason not to trust him. Moving forward as expected we had discussed these French drains with the project manager and the workers on site and none of these people ever said "we don't do French drains". In fact the workers on site seemed like they didn't want to do the hard digging work involved and even tried to talk us out of the French drains suggesting doing something that we felt was inferior to French drains. They said to us "we can dig you French drains but we're just going to tear up your yard", never once did they say "we don't do French drains". We bought this in June INCLUDING French drains, spoke with multiple people at Champion as outlined above about those French drains and then come late October the division manager says "we don't do French drains"? When the division manager comes out to meet with us he insisted the contract wording was in his favor and he wasn't budging, he wasn't going to have his company put in French drains. This IS dirty business.

The project manager wrote in an email to me on July 30 "rest assured that we will absolutely install your project to your satisfaction". This is the same "satisfaction guarantee" that the salesman gave us several times too yet we are far from satisfied at this point.

The following is a summarized list of reasons why we reject the businesses response to this complaint:

A: The 15 foot long crack in driveway was not fully indemnified for. They said the crack could be fixed for not much but the repair was done this week and the repair actually makes it look MORE noticeable, you see a much more obvious large crack now in what was a clean looking driveway before we hired champion for our project! The repair cost was $945 because the company said we needed the entire driveway resealed. Champion only gave us $500 for the driveway crack so there should be another $445 reimbursed for this expense. Please find the attached picture of the invoice which details out the part for the driveway for $945.

If we go to sell the home we are going to get something less for it than we would have if this large crack wasn't running down the driveway. This is not right and the company should do the right thing and fully indemnify us for it. When we bought our sunroom they did not tell us that we would therefore also receive a home value reducing crack to our driveway that we would have to live with and look at every day. It wasn't part of the deal to get a sunroom on the back of the house to enjoy the beauty of a backyard, while getting an eyesore placed on the front of the house in our driveway. That wasn't part of the agreement. It was reasonable for us to expect that no damage like this would be done to our property in the course of Champion building the sunroom/deck.

Please find the attached pictures showing the original receipt when the driveway was installed in 2006 for a price of $4650. Additionally please find the attached picture showing the cost to have the driveway sealed at $699, so a total cost $5349 was paid for the driveway and sealant. Champion needs to do the right thing and make it as it was before, when we had a nice clean looking driveway. If they just redid a couple of the concrete squares on the driveway it would look off colored from the other squares, so you have to put in an entire new driveway to make things as they were before. To make this right they should refund $5349 for the cost that was paid to have that driveway put in and sealed so that we can have it redone. Plus the remaining $445 that was paid attempting to fix this crack makes a total of $5794 which should be refunded to make things as they were before and fully indemnify us for this crack.

B: We asked to have the wall panel replaced that the electricians put a hole in and the panel was not replaced. We still have a hole in our wall that now looks more noticeable with this extra piece sticking out up above the surface.

Project manager said to replace that wall panel it would require them to jack up the roof and do a bunch of work that would be pretty much like having to tear down the sunroom and rebuild it. Well this is not our fault. We bought a sunroom without a hole in it, but what they gave us is a sunroom with a hole in it. This is not what was described in the contract.

The day the city came back out the inspector did acknowledge something needed to be done regarding the railings going down the stairs as they were not up to code. There was a lot going on when he brought it up and we quickly got off that subject and he never remembered to address this with champion. By the time I remembered the city had left so I asked champion to put up a handrail on the stairs which could help make up for the hole in the wall and make our stairs safe to use as they should be. But a $35 handrail and $5 mounting brackets from Lowe's is not enough to fully compensate for this hole in the wall.

We went with champion because of the hopes of having a very energy-efficient room but with this hole in the wall there will be at least a small amount of heat and cool air that will escape. This new sunroom would be valued at something less because there's a hole in the wall than it would if the sunroom had no hole in the wall. We would like to be compensated something that is fair for the loss in value on the sunroom because of this hole and something to make it fair to live with the blemish, reduced energy efficiency, and for maintenance needs down the road to keep it closed up.

C: 1-2 French drains were not put in. The only thing they would do for us is connect the downspout which drains the entire new roof over the sunroom/deck into our existing 4" French drain. Our existing 4" French drain could handle all of the water it was receiving before, but now with all of the additional water from the new sunroom/deck roof we are concerned that during times of heavy rain the 4" French drain may not be big enough to handle all the additional water causing it to overflow and flood the area. We really needed at least one of the French drains put in and now we may have to replace our existing 4" French drain with a 6" French drain if it isn't big enough when it's tested under heavy rain.

When we considered the final price before purchasing this sunroom we considered that the French drains cost about $[protected] each to put in. It was discussed that we would get one or two French drains depending on how we did it. We wouldn't have agreed to the price we agreed to without the French drains being included, we figured those into the price that we were paying. Since that was part of the deal it is not fair that they walk away without refunding us back $1000 for at least one French drain they should have installed.

D: What we thought would be a very positive experience from a "A+ rated" BBB member turned out to be one big stressful headache after another. We think it only right that champion makes some good faith effort to compensate us something for all the trouble, headaches, stress and time lost because of the poor service received with this purchase.

Just to give an idea of what we've been dealing with with champion in Kansas City, here is a list of just a few of the other problems we've had along the way to make it clear just how difficult of a time we have had with champion:

~ Before the sunroom roof was sealed champion installed the heater/air conditioner unit on the north side of the west wall. There was high chances of wet weather in the forecast for several days ahead and water leaked everywhere raining down inside the brand-new sunroom. On the walls, on the subfloor and on the heater/air conditioner unit. When we discovered the leaking we acted fast to cover up the heater/air conditioner with trash bags in hopes it wouldn't be damaged, and I'm not sure what type of damage the water may have done to the subfloor, interior ceiling, interior walls or other parts of the room. They should not have installed the heater/air conditioner unit until the roof was sealed but I think they were trying to get out of sending one of their workers back to do it later.

During this time we had no sealed roof on our sunroom and wet weather in the forecast the project manager scheduled the electricians to come out and install the electrical work even though he knew the roofers were very busy and had no idea how long it would be before they could come out to seal the roof. In hindsight thankfully those other issues prevented the electrical work getting done on time otherwise it would've been raining all over the new electrical work! They are supposed to be the professionals but they are careless making such potentially dangerous mistakes like that. Champion should've put a tarp up over our roof since they installed the heater/air conditioner without the roof being sealed and high chances for rain forecasted for several days ahead. And it did rain for those several days leaking water all inside our new sunroom. I have pictures and video of it raining inside of our sunroom and the water that got on our heater/air conditioner unit.

~They built the landing such that my mother cannot reach the faucet handle to turn on the water hose anymore because there's not enough room. I am more agile and am able to stretch enough to reach it but for my mother there simply is not enough room. I brought up to the workers prior to them building the landing that I feared there would not be enough room to access the faucet handle and waterspout because I had noticed the concrete for one of the landing post was very close to the house and it looked like it would block us from accessing the faucet handle and water spout. They insisted to me that there would be more than enough room to still access the faucet handle and water spout once the landing was built. Now this too is something we have to live with.

~ Even though I emailed them pictures and detailed explanations Champion sent the city out for final inspection anyway and the city failed them on the unsafe stairs plus numbers 4, 7, 11, 12, 13, 22, 24, 26 and 27 from my list of issues because they were all code violations that were not safe.

~The salesman was highly responsive prior to the contract being signed, once it was signed we were trying to get pricing on the rolled roof and it lasted about three weeks longer than a price check should have or would have prior to the contract being signed. Told me on several occasions he would call me and then never would so I had to keep calling him back on it.

~Before the project was started I emailed the project manager twice with specific questions and his ability to reply to all my questions was poor.

~When we had questions about the electrical layout/design/other, the workers and the project manager all told us we had to speak to the electricians when they came. Understandable. But when it came time to have the electricians come they no showed on us the first day then they showed up an hour late on the second day by which time my mother had an appointment she needed to be at and had no time left to discuss the electrical. The third time they showed up an hour early and I wasn't there yet and they tried to strong-arm my mom saying that if she didn't let them in they would not come back. So she went downstairs to open the garage door and let them in and just in that time they hopped in their vehicle and left. On top of all that I had talked to one of the electrical workers while they were at the house and I informed him I would be there within 30 minutes and he told me that was ok. Then when I show up they were gone and they never came back all day. Fourth time they finally show up when they said they would. So finally we are getting our chance to ask our electrical questions to decide the design/layout/other but as we are doing this the electricians began getting agitated and impatient telling us they had lost money because they had come out so many times and they needed to get right to installing and didn't have time to fully discuss with us how we wanted everything done. They rushed us and were strong-arming us to just let them lay out everything where they would put it. They also tried to talk us out of getting a new circuit ran to the room even though that's what we had paid for with the electrical package not to mention the existing circuit they wanted to use was running a bunch of other electrical in our home already. The owner did not seem to have much control over his two workers. Then some of the electrical work they did was not even up to code. They used one of those flexible lines outside where it needs to be enclosed in PVC so they failed inspection on that. The 240 V line they ran underneath the sunroom was not enclosed with enough PVC on either end which didn't meet code and also failed city inspection. Beyond that they installed the ceiling light quite crooked and when they came back to fix it they bent the metal base so bad that champion covered a replacement light. They damaged/crushed our downspout under the landing that was running horizontal from the house while installing electrical, thankfully this was being replaced anyway because champion had used the wrong color downspout. They were rushing so much installing our electrical that they didn't measure properly and they drilled from the inside of the room accidentally drilling a unusable hole in our wall that was to be for the outdoor light fixture. Only the hole was in the wrong spot, a spot that was too close to the outer wall of house that it was literally impossible to install the outdoor light fixture there because of inadequate room requiring them to drill a new hole for the outdoor light fixture where there would be enough room for it. In the end we were not happy with how the electrical was laid out running down the ceiling and wall to supply electricity to the west wall power outlet. This looks bad and they should've ran that electrical line underneath the sunroom and come up from the floor so that there would've only been a little bit of track running up the wall from the floor. But because we were rushed through everything that's what got done and that's what we have to live with. Champion should be able to answer their customers electrical questions or see to it that ample time is provided with the electricians for that to be done. By the way the salesman never told us the electrical work would be subcontracted out, that came as a surprise to us after the sale.

At this point we are not sure where else to turn. We have included champion corporate headquarters in Cincinnati [protected]@championfactorydirect.com and the CEO of champion Todd Dickson on some of our email correspondence and no one even at champions corporate headquarters has ever tried to reached out to us about these problems.

During the six weeks of the installation the Kansas City Royals were doing very well making it to the World Series and I came to learn over the radio that champion was one of the "proud" sponsors of the Kansas City Royals. We have experienced anything but world-class service with champion and now I'm thinking we'll let the Royals know too how this proud sponsor of theirs delivers customer experiences like the nightmare we've endured. I don't believe the Kansas City Royals would want to tarnish their reputation with a sponsor like this.

The only other options left available to us are filing complaints with the attorney general's offices in Kansas, Missouri and Ohio. (We have now filed complaints with the attorney general's office in Kansas and the attorney general's office in Ohio and with the Federal Trade Commission) Beyond that we can at least take to the Internet to warn other consumers about their business practices that we've had to live through. I can post a YouTube video with a collage of all of the pictures I've taken the last several weeks of the bad work and unsafe things that were not up to code along with video clips of it raining in our sunroom before they sealed the roof to show the bad and careless work they did. We can post reviews of our experience with champion on the top 15-20 Internet review sites and complaint/[redacted] sites so that consumers can find the story of our awful experience at the top of search results in Google, Yahoo and Bing. Then take to our social media accounts and warn friends and followers with links to the reviews, pictures and video so that we can warn as many people as possible about our awful experience with this company. We can use #ChampionWindowProblems or something similar to organize on Twitter.

Upon further online research I've now come across a lot of other consumers who have also had bad experiences with champion. Some are even claiming that the windows and other products we bought from champion are not manufactured by Champion as the salesman represented to us. They're saying the windows are actually Cardinal Glass Company E366 glass. I'll have to look into this further but the salesman definitely told us that they manufacture all of their own windows and sunrooms at their factory in Cincinnati. If that is not the case then there may be some product mis-representation here as well. For reference, here are just a few links to some of the almost endless complaints I have found online about this company:

I can set up an easy Wordpress website like www.ChampionWindowComplaints.com or something similar with a forum design template so that the website could serve as a central hub for consumers to post their bad experiences with this company and organize. In the meantime I have set up the following Gmail account for consumers to organize and are posting this email address with every online review posted to the online review/complaint/[redacted] sites:

[protected]@gmail.com

If you have had a bad experience with champion windows please email me at [protected]@gmail.com so that we can connect as there will be strengthen in our numbers.

I'm not really sure what else we could do to protect people from these types of business practices. I think it would be fair the BBB in Kansas City and Cincinnati downgrade this company from the A+ BBB rating that they currently hold.

Comment: I will never recommend this company or these windows. The company is so unprofessional, rude arrogant and product comes in damaged. I hired this company to install windows in my home and all of them came in damaged. Installed unleveled. And cut corners to install quickly to get out of here. The district manager Jim is a arrogant rude person. Telling a hoe owner that they are not allowed to remove windows and told me i didn't know what I was doing and they did and that all I want to do is fight when I want what I paid for. Then the people they have representing their company calling customer ###s if uncalled for and unprofessional. We were promised quality and quality installation and have yet to see it and pushed for payment and not anywhere near satisfied. Then get told charging me for my old windows since they are removing and disposing of them. In which they had seen nor touched them due to me and my husband removed them before the arrived and we disposed of them. So I am not paying that fee. If this shows how this company operates then this company will never get my business or anyone I know. Word of mouth will hurt a business. I do not think its right to have a customer pay for something that was not done correctly and when trying to reach someone they put you off and never show up.Here is the list of stuff they left behind
All windows installed all scuffed and scratched up
Screens not fitting in frames
Locks not seated screws not sealed in them
over cut 6' window in our siding and wood on house so now lets water and bugs in
Split a 2x4 holding the window
glass scratched
frame bent up so not able to use window like promised
unable to use limit locks due to covered by frame
had to supply contractors with some of the wood to be able to install window due to having a huge hole in side of house
Capping/wrapping not done right wavy and bubbled

unable to reach anyone and then they put you off and nothing gets fixed These people need to fix whats wrong and live up to their word on customer satisfaction and quality

Example frames came in damaged and they wanted to buff out and scratched up and wanted me to use their cleaner to take care of it. Sorry they are SCRATCHES...This company is a joke thru and thru...
