Camping World service work

Purchased a used motorhome from a indivdual in April 2013. Before getting on the road I elected to have maintainence performed (oil change engine & generator), (radiator flushed and checked), (21 pt powertrain inspection), & (45 pt MH inspection). They found out I needed new belts, new slide topper, new slide seals & rams, new inverter, new exhaust fan in bath, new toilet, new brakes and refriderator and AC service. It took 35 days to complete all items and $6500.00. Before I could pick it up they called and said the slideroom would not come out. I told them it worked when I bought the unit and it worked when they installed new seals and rams.
I was debating having them upgrade the cabin with new carpet, sofa, chair, etc., but I am rethinking that now. Too bad most of the RV dealers were taken over by Camping World as it leaves rv'ers with fewer choices for repairs and service.

Camping World wrongful termination

On Monday, March 4, 2013, Aaron Hawkins wrote:
To whom it may concern:

I am writing this letter to appeal a wrongful termination of my employment with Camping World on February 27, 2013. I was terminated because my manager says I was a no call no show for work on Monday February 25, 2013. I had a legal court summons to appear for court in another state that I had to attend to and notify my manager Damian Schafer of this prior to me leaving.

To provide you with more detail I have been working for Camping World in Dover, Florida since December of 2012. I have never worked in the RV industry but I AMA very fast learning and caught on to this very quick. I built a strong relationship with customers and the employees at this location. At the end of December I had a family emergency that kept me out of work due to the nature of events that were taking place. My wife communicated with the General Manager Tim Joslin and also the Service Manger Damian Schafer to keep this updated of my situation. They both agreed that when I came back they would find a place for me with the company. When I was able to return I was given a job back with Camping World working in the parts department until another opportunity opened up that I was more qualified for. Now with this being said I am sure you can agree that I must have been a great employee to be offered a job back after being with the company for a short period of time. Prior to me leaving for my February 25th court date I spoke with Damian Schaefer and let him know the days that I would not be there so he did not get concerned if he did not see me there. I have always made Damian aware anytime I was leaving or coming to work. Prior to me leaving for this court date on February 25th, I had a court date on February 6, 2013 that I had told Damian about and at that time I also informed him that I had would be leaving on the 25th. I have known about the courts dates prior to me being reemployed. The day of me leaving I called a total of 5 times and left a voice message for my direct manager Carl which is the parts manager. I also called and asked for several different people to try and speak with. I was trying to call to make sure one that they remember I would be out of town and two that I would be back a day later than I had planned. I wanted to call to make sure this would be okay. I made several attempts and left messages. On February 26th I received a voicemail from Damian asking me to call him as soon as humanly possible. I made several attempts to call him and he finally answered and said he would call me back in the morning. The following morning I went into work at 7:30 am to talk to Damian and at this he told me that my employment was being terminated for no call/ no show. He told me that he was not aware that I was leaving. I asked him if he had forgotten that I told him that I was leaving and he said " I thought you had court of Saturday and that there was people in the office when you told me and I was not really paying attention because I had a lot going on." He also said that he had made tried to call me about fifteen times and left several messages. I explained to him that I only received the one phone call and message from him and no one else. He mentioned that the General Manager and the Service Director had asked about me to speak with me about a new opportunity in the company on Monday. He stated that because he did not hear from me that he had terminated my employment on Monday morning which was the day I was summons to appear in court. I have no history of ever being late for work or not showing up for work. I have never been written up for any reason while employed at Camping World. He told me that it was the General Managers decision. When I was leaving I saw the correct General Manager Glen and asked him if I could speak with him. I told him that I had just spoken with Damian and he told me I was terminated. He was not aware of what was going on and said he would speak with me. He went and talked to Damian to find out what was going on which demonstrated to me that he was not aware or had taken part of any decision to terminate me prior to our conversation. I am not sure of the conversation that he had with Damian because it was in private for about 10-15 minutes. When he was able to speak with me he brought Damian in the office and repeated what Damian had said. Glen would not listen to the facts that I had and I tried to show him my phone which has the records of my phone calls and text messages. I also had called my cell phone provider and they have no record of calls coming from Camping World on the days Damian states he attempted to contact me. All of these things are facts which can not be made up and would have demonstrated I had given accountability for my absence. I have tried to contact human resources and have not received a call back. I have left several messages with Tess Beckmann [protected]) she said she would help me but she has yet to return my call.

I believe that someone should over turn this wrongful termination of my employment and reinstate my back to my job. I am 33 years old married Christian and trying the best I can to support my wife and two kids. My wife is also 3 months pregnant. The termination of my employment has effected my family greatly. We were scheduled to move into our new apartment on February 28th but because of my termination they are no able to consider our lease due to the lack of income. My wife is a waitress at a restaurant so her income is not a lot. We do not have family in Florida so we have been sleeping in the car and staying at homeless shelters until I am able to find us a place to live with the little income that we have now. I have pawned all my valuable positions just to be able to provide food for my family. I believe giving reinstated me to my job you gain a valuable asset to your company. I have over 10 years of Management experience and I am a Army Veteran.

I really hope that someone will try to get in contact with me regarding this situation. I am forwarding this letter to the following people in hopes that I get a response, Marcus Lemonis, Rick Matar, Mark Gilman, Libby Simon, Thomas F. Wolfe, Steve Adams, Sue Bray. I am also posting this letter on every website available that pertains to Camping World to let the world see how good employees are treated. I am also sending this letter to NAACP, the Veterans Association, Florida EEOC, and every local news station in hopes that someone will hear my concerns.

Camping World myrtle beach

Horrible company. Myrtle beach dealership charged me $39.00 to check the air in 4 tires. I didn't have a flat or leak of any nature, I just wanted to ensure the tire pressure was at the correct level. They also charged me $39.00 to spay wd-40 into two locks as well as an additional charge for supplies. When I asked for the can of wd-40 (Since I was charged for it) the manager asked me if I was kidding. The manager then informed me if I refused to pay the bill in full he wouldn't release my rv to me. The corporate office stood behind the dealership. I will never again do business with this company (Or their subsidiary good sam).

Camping World deceptive online process

Online order "receipt" showed items total, then discount, then shipping (0.00), then tax (0.00) and lastly the order total. As it turns out, they actually debit your account for the sales tax... Even though it states 0.00. They say they can"t keep up with tax rates. As it turns out, there is a disclaimer a couple paragraphs below your"receipt", that says not only can they add tax, but can change the prices too. Anyway., be aware that your online"receipt" is merely an estimate. I think they should call it what it is. Seems to be a deceptive means to appear more competitive to us while we are shopping.

These businesses are designed to find the reason they can't help you and they write the contract in such a way that the law allows them to commit legalized fraud. This company wholesalewarranties.net scammed me out of 5000 dollars!

Camping World negligence and poor service

An appointment is worthless, first come first served! After 3 trips to install and correct the sloppy work of the mechanics, I still have problems. First the mechanic had to tighten several bolts on my auto tow bar installation, before I even left the lot. 4 miles later, on the interstate, the brakes on my new car locked up from the improper installation of my new towing brake system. During a trial run of my new motor home with new car in tow, the towing braking system failed to work at all. This required two more trips to North Little Rock Arkansas camping world to fix. I ended up taking my new car to my auto dealer to repair damages done during the installation of the tow bar and braking system. My brand new motor home was given back to me with the leather seats covered in dirt and grime, a grommet missing from the brake pedal, ( they ran a wire through there ) and improper wiring to my tow vehicle, which rendered the new braking system useless. A total of over 29 hours in the waiting room, 900 miles of my time ( and gas ) driving back and forth and A frustration factor of 100. When I finally had enough and asked to speak with someone in management, I received more excuses and run around than a politician can give. All to no avail .
Think it over several times before having them do any work, you will be putting your LIFE and property in jeopardy.

In the last year I have bought 2 Travel Trailers from Camping World North Little Rock, now everyone knows how expensive 1 can get but try 2. SO here goes the events.

Joey,

I tried you on your cell this morning but did not receive an answer. So I really want to give you a run down on the problems I have incurred for a while now. Now I do want to say before going any further your Staff has been really nice to me, and that in itself is the only reason I have not just gone off.

STORY OF EVENTS:

1. Came in for a part for my Road Runner, talked to a salesperson, decided to trade the Road Runner in for a Shadow Cruiser.
2. Had the Shadow Cruiser for a few months, had it out this past summer the AC Blew, brought it in to service was told it would take a couple of months for it to be fixed due to back log of other units in for repair, spoke with Wade decided to trade my Shadow Cruiser in for my 2014 Coleman
3. Moved my Coleman once from your facility to a lot, starting to notice just a few things to be fixed on it but it was really no rush on these.
4. Just moved the Coleman again this month to another park, now I can’t get out the back door, the speakers are busted, water leaks, trim coming off, just several different issues.
5. Contacted service talked with Spring, she requested a list and pictures of my problems so that she could submit to Keystone for repair, I complied. And set a date to bring it in for repairs.
6. I will say I can now go out my back door, my speakers are fixed, water leaks tight, trim is fixed, minus a few others that I just assume got overlooked.
7. Had walk through with Johnathan I believe was his name, he explained that the trailer was not leaking but had a manufactures defect on the ceiling, bottom line whoever was putting it together made a mistake now I have what looks like water marks on my ceiling, not even just the one that showed up just before bringing it in, but now I have one starting in my bathroom.
8. Yesterday came in first thing I noticed the microwave is out, tried to clear it nothing would work so I unplugged it waited a bit, plugged it back in it worked, woke this morning it was out again, it is now permanently unplugged due to I’m afraid of a fire hazard. I have also sent a picture taken this morning of the front plate on the microwave to Spring in the service department.

Here’s where I am needing help, I’m scared of this unit, not only was it incorrectly manufactured but now it is becoming a fire hazard.

This unit is the second I have bought from your company and I’m not giving up on you guys, but now I am upside down with no extra cash, which I feel is not due to myself due to the fact I’ve had to trade up a couple times due to problems.

This is what I feel should be done, there is another Coleman Unit on your property, it is actually right at $30, 000.00 I own 33, 000.00 on my unit. I have no extra cash anymore, I would like to be placed in that Unit my payments be the same, I want my Gap Insurance and Extended Warrenty which I have keep on all my units. I will pay my Sale’s Tax.

I hope you guys can get together and work this deal out for me, I know the paperwork can be worked.

Please advise, I am at work at this time so reaching by email is the better way, due to I’m on my phone a lot.

Thank you for all your help

Since this was written I decided to put my extra sheets under my leather couch for storage, OMG, lifted it up and the screws holding it together were put in sideways, now i need a new couch.

Has my issues or my solutions been handled, no they just say keep taking pictures, or I've got some phones calls in for you in your behave, or well do you have another 3 or 5 thousand dollars so we can get you into this other unit...What I've given all I can.

My suggestion to anyone buying trading ect get on your hand an knees, touch everything, then make sure you use the heck out of it cause you only have 1 year bumper to bumper on it then the baby is yours, well actually its yours when you drive off.

Just about the worst comapny you can work for.

Assisted in re-opening a "tornado-stricken" (yes, N. AZ gets 'em) retail store/service dept. in Bellemont, AZ through merchandizing, trash disposal, lawn chair unpacking/set up, even volunteered to re-paint those bright yellow security posts (I painted about 14 of them), including willing to come in after all (after an approx. 55 hour week already) on my day off that he initially scheduled me to work . My manager was temperamental, unclear in giving direction, un-gracious with all my 10-12 hour a day efforts and accused me of failing to follow thru on what he asked, AFTER RUNNING OUT OF TIME AFTER ELEVEN HOURS DOING WHAT HIS MANAGER/BOSS ASKED ME TO DO!
Manager was piss poor in communicating, delegating, even told me to use Acetone to get the yellow paint off my hands! SO I HAD A GRREAT LAUGH AND LAUGHED HARDEST AFTER FINDING OUT A "FLOOD" CAUSED THE RETAIL STORE PORTION TO RE-CLOSE AFTER I HAD ALREADY FOUND ANOTHER JOB ELSEWHERE. What satisfaction to know his un-managing @$$ was put out of a job that he couldn't do anyway. Knew nothing about RV's, products, etc. Justice was served in my behalf.

First and Foremost Do not I repeat Do not buy this Motorhome!
It has all kinds of problems. I went to see it from Ohio and was surprised at the shape it was in pictures did wonders for this coach. There was rust pits all over. the inside stunk. the slider window wall were loose. none of the electric blinds worked they even had the day shade zip tied up. The sales person named James was GREAT. But the store manager Roger was rude and nasty. They want 139, 000 for it I offered 125, 000 even thou I needed to fix a lot of stuff he would not come down. He said he had to much invested in it. I asked how long has the coach been there (expecting to here 6 mons) I heard 643 days...IOI. I said that is almost two years you had it here and you will not come down to 125, 000. I walked out. the coach needs ALOT of work. I did'nt know it set there that long. They could have told me. I would never had gone to see it if I knew that. So please pass this on so no one will get ripped off from this store. Thank you Dennis Wolfe

Camping World failure to repair damage they did

On July 22, 2011, I picked up my motorhome after it was inspected at Camping World, Bath, NY. I noticed that someone at the facility had broken my right outside mirror and I immediately reported the damage. I was told that Camping World would order and install a new mirror. But all I have gotten is a run-around from Camping World during several follow-up calls to the firm. They are careless and untrustworthy.

Camping World worst service

Not a complaint but more of a warning, do not take your motorhome or camper for service to camping world. The service department has inconsistent charging, they do not have your camper ready when you need it and if you consider letting them add after market equipment be sure to do research and understand what is involve. Camping World does not have technicians, they are oil changers and tire pressure checkers at best. Please be cautious; I myself will never, ever let another Camping World technician touch my motor home again!

On Oct 13 2011 I bought a 2004 Monaco Monarch and the salesman told me that Rv is going to be detailed completly. I told him you got three days before I be back to pick it up. I went after three days and the vehicle was nasty and dirty with a sticky floor. After all they charge me without let me know $300.00 on the sales contract. Also I live in Texas and I have to call so they can send the paper to Texas and they couldnt find them. Finally they send me all the paper so I can take them to the Tax office.

Camping World warranty repairs-non responsive

Today is the 22nd of October. We purchased a 2012 5th Wheel Dutchman Denali travel trailer. It's been the shop so many times we have just come to the point where since taking delivery in June, Camping World has had it exactly the same number of days as we have. I understand warranty issues. What I do not understand is the fact that I cannot get them to return my call. Their warranty manager, when you do reach him, says each and every time without fail..."I will check into your situation and call you back in 15-20 min" then weeks pass. You call him again and again, without fail says 15-20 min is the magic number for him to call you back. I have discussed this with his boss thinking things would improve. Nothing. I will also point out that the sale department sold me on their service department by telling me that Camping World has the ONLY service department that carries all parts for all units they sell and that they are in stock at all times. When speaking to the service department I was told that what sales said is not true and in fact, the service dept has very few parts in stock if any, they have to order by the job. So if service is something that is important to you, think about it carefully before purchasing from Camping World.

Camping World terrible product

Bought a gazebo, followed the instructions for erecting and as we had the gazebo on our patio, we couldn't peg it down so we used the supplied guy ropes to secure it to trees and our house. It lasted 3 days and then with overnight rain, it crumpled. Camping World have told us that their tent and gazebo poles are not covered by a warranty. They also told us that we erected it incorrectly and that it is our fault the gazebo did not live up to expectation. No where do the instructions mention weighting the gazebo and the pictures on the website show no guy ropes or weights on the legs anyway. We have been offered NO OFFER OF REPAIR, REPLACEMENT or REFUND. Steer clear of this company and certainly of this product.

Camping World service department

I contaced camping world and made arrangements to have the generator fixed, have a satelite receiver installed and a few other issues, before our 3 week vacation. We scheduled for the Motor Home to go in 4 days before our vacation started. We were told there should be no problem getting it taken care of, in fact they would have it done in two days. On the morning of the second day I received a call telling me the generator needed a starter, and they would call me right back with an estimate. Later that afternoon I received a call telling me it would probably be best if I took the Motorhome to the generator dealer and have them fix it. Because the generator dealer could not get to it for two weeks I called Camping World back and told them they would need to complete the repairs. They told me they couldn't do it until the next week. I finally insisted that awas not acceptable. I then got a call back saying they would install the starter the following day, (now the third day). They also then informed me that they could not program the Satelite receiver they had just installed, (and charged $119 just to plug it in).

Camping world said the unit would be done by the end of the day on the third day. We arrived to pick it up 20 minutes before closing and it was not done. They said it was taking longer and they still needed about 45 minutes and wanted to finish the next day. I refused because we were already late in leaving for our trip. They reluctantly agreed to keep working and finished up in about an hour.

Two of the additional items we asked them to do, were to fix the refrigerator, it was not cooling on gas, and to install a trailer brake controller. When we hooked up our trailer we discovered the brake controller was not working. On the second day of our trip the refrigerator was just barely cool. We stopped by on our way out of town and they fixed the brake controller. They told us they could look at the refrigerator for nearly 2 weeks and it didn't matter to them that they had just worked on it. Then they told us that if a RV refrigerator lights but doesn't cool enough the only option is to replace it. Earlier this same person told me the purpose of my inverter was to convert 110v A/C to 12v DC.

By the way after paying around $500 to have the generator fixed, it won't start again. I did call the customer service number for Camping World Headquarters. They told me someone would check into the situation and call me back. It has been more than a week and no call yet. I paid $1, 900 for the repairs, my refrigerator still doesn't work, the dash air isn't cooling again, I had to call the satelite dish manufacturer and spend about 15 minutes on the phone with them to program the dish (camping world refused to make that call), my generator won't start.

I WILL NEVER DARKEN THE DOOR OF A CAMPING WORLD LOCATION ANYWHERE.

We have owned 4 brand new rv's from our local RV dealer, Reines in Manassas, Va.over a period of about 6 years. The deals themselves were OK. My complaint with them was their service time. Even for small repairs I had to wait weeks because they always said they did not have enough service people. They were the only game in town so I had no choice but to wait, or drive 60 miles to Winchester Va. to the camping world store, where I could get in within a couple of days.
Imagine my joy when 2 weeks after buying our new unit last year I learned that CAMPING WORLD was taking over Reines! Well silly me! After a recent trip to Florida we had several small issues with the RV. No problem(I thought), but NOW CAMPING WORLD TELLS ME, IT WILL BE 2 MONTHS TO GET IT IN, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH SERVICE PEOPLE! I CAN NOT GO TO WINCHESTER, AS THEY CAN NOT DO WARRENTY WORK!

There went the rest of our summer trips. I find it hard to believe that Marcus Lemonis would allow this to a business he leads! I have no doubt this is an issue in other CW sites. NOTHING WILL HURT YOUR BUSSINES MORE THEN NOT TAKING CARE OF THE CUSTOMERS YOU ALREADY HAVE.---

We just spent a week and half at Dustys Camping World of Bartow Fl. Had a waste tank explode on ou 2011r keystone cougar xlite 5the wheel, it was 17 days out of keystone warranty. All blame for this was placed on me thee owner. Dustys is thee eyes for keystone and they accused it of being a blockage caused on my part yet they had no evidence to prove this. Dealt withe extended warranty CW care and they refused thee first time but agreed to cover part of thee whork after there inspector visited thee site at Dustys. If you paid for extended warranty there cw care read your agreement contract closely especially thee exclusions. It took 3.5 business days to receive thee tank from keystone (although they did not cover thee problem) overnight whould have cost me $350. Dealt withe thee service guy whose name starts withe an (A), he was very arrogant at first withe thee problem. Then in thee middle of thee problem he was nice and joking. Had other issues that had not been satisfied in thee past brought them to there attention and they had to check on thee past issues and get another approval from keystone. They finally completed thee shower and slide issue at this time. Also had a counter top issue that was a mystery on thee part it was discovered at Dustys and was replaced. The Tech man Steve is an expert at his whork and my wife and I applaud him for his whork. Back to the settlement issue after all whork is complete, came into the service guy (A) ask that we whould settle up on all whork cost on Saturday morning, my wife and I had been out for the day to an event and got caught in the rain and were very wet when we arrived to check on the status of the unit which was having the counter top installed. All whork was complete unit ready, told the service guy (A) that I whould come over Saturday morning to settle up whould be staying in there camping area again overnight. He wanted payment at that time and was very arrogant and insinuating that we may leave out and not pay the billing. It was time to bite the tongue or cuss the guy out, he was very unprofessional many times during these issues and camping whorld should deal with him on this. I am sure they will jump on this issue just like they do all other issues was you drive the purchase off the lot. So people they have good deals but there service and some service people are unprofessional and really suck at there job especially the service guy (A). Camping World extended warranty

I purchased a 2008 Fleetwood Southwind from Sirpilla's Camping World three years ago. I also purchased a extended warranty at the same time for $3000. I was furnished with the agreement and the items covered on the reverse side. I just recently experienced problems with the on board generator starting but won't stay running, electric awning won't close tight against RV for travel, Tailpipe hanger broke, metal skin to storage door separating from frame, driver seatbelt won't function-release or retract and the storage door support struts won't hold doors open. This is the first time I've had a problem and took it back to where I purchased it for service. The items listed were reviewed by the dealership and contact made with Camping World Care. They denied repair of every item except the struts for the storage door. They sighted exclusions for all of the items and stated that the extended warranty was primarily for the engine, drive train, air conditioners, furnace, water system and plumbing or mechanical failure of a covered item. They agreed to send me a booklet outlining covered and excluded items. The estimate to repair everything I cited is approximately $2000. I'm not sure why I purchased the extended warranty, but was advised by a friend at the dealership that it was a good investment. I'm not as displeased with the dealership as I am with Camoing World Care. This sounds like a scam ... just deny everything and keep denying it and after a while the customer will go away. MONEY SAVED.. I going to forward this information and issue onto Marcus Lemonis CEO and President of Camping World for his attention.

Camping World damaged rv

Installation left caulk on new slide-out vinyl. When I rolled it out it left holes. The repair department manager refused to take responsibility after manufacturer refused warranty. This was the third repair department mess-up and I will not let them touch my camper ever again.

Camping World poor service

We purchased a New Fifth Wheel RV at Camping World, Woodstock 5 months ago. Once I got home I discovered they had wrongly connected my lights, and under inflated the tires. On my next trip I when pass their business and they reluctantly corrected both. Later I reported multiple defects in workmanship to them. My RV has been at their place of business half of the time I've owned it, once they contacted me to tell me all work was complete I picked it up and they informed me that only part of the items would be corrected under warranty and in addition I discovered they damage the exterior fiberglass and scratched my corian counter-tops. Their customer service and quality control is some of the worst I've seen. I will no longer do business with them.

I took my RV to Camping World to have the roof cleaned and calked. They told me it needed to be completely replaced for over $2000. I just had them calk it and had a friend do the roof cleaning. It has been fine with no leaks for 2 years now. Then my air was not properly working, so I took it there again. They told me I needed a new air conditioner for $1000. I went to another RV service place and they fixed it w ith a $37.00 part

Camping World highway robbery

Took my camper in for a 45 point inspection and a small list of things I needed taken care of. I left it for 3 days and every day they were calling about something they found needing repairing. It was always things that we had never seem to have a problem with or with something one could not see, such as a leak behind the refrigerator, etc. What I thought would be about $500 or $600 worth turned into nearly $1, 500.00. I finally had to tell them not to do anything else. When I was told it cost me $35.00 to replace a 50 cent bulb, that was enough. I felt they got me in and then got money for everything they could. I could go on about the problems we had after we picked the camper up. When I would call and asked why such and such was happening I always got the answer, "I don't know." Just a bad experience for me and will never use their service department again.

Camping World beware - trailer stolen while being serviced

We took a brand new 2011 Trailer in for warranty service at Camping World in Vacaville, CA. On the first trip to pick up the trailer after we recived the call the work was completed, it was noticed that damage had been done to the cabinet center in an area that service work had been performed. The 5th wheel trailer was left at the service location once again to be repaired. Days later my husband recieved a call asking if we had picked up the trailer, he advised no and the caller stated that's what we thought we still have the keys. He later recieved a called from the Camping World Service Manager stating that they saw the trailer on Monday and went to work on it Thursday and the trailer was gone. And now they are stating they have no responsiblity for our stolen trailer off of their property. If they had done the repair work right the first time, this would not have happened and not to mention the fact that they do nothing to safeguard their customers property. However, for their own property they do.. Think twice before you take your trailer to Camping World and leave it, because anything can happen and Camping world will simply tell you sorry not their problem!

The same thing happened to me at the Bowling Green, KY Camping World on 10/18/2011 and they claim they have no responsibility for the loss. They even admitted to the Bowling Green Police Department that they failed to lock the hitch to prevent anyone from taking it.

Camping World mis-diagnosed and overcharged

I took my 1998 Pleasure Way (Dodge van conversion) into the Rocklin, CA Camping World service dept on Oct 1, 2010, and requested the following service:

1. Service the generator (oil change and air filter). I also mentioned that the generator was not turning on from the remote switch in the cab, and that it had not been serviced in a long time and was likely very dirty.

2. Repair a cracked drain under the kitchen sink

3. Passenger side mirror has play, see if it can be tightened to stay in place while driving.

The service person said they could not service the generator if it would not start, and that there would be charge of $175 to diagnose the generator problem. I asked if that fee would apply if the generator could be started simply by resetting a circuit breaker. He did not know but a service supervisor finally agreed that there would not be a diagnostic charge if the problem were simply a fuse or a reset. I repeated for the service supervisor that the generator had not been serviced in a long time and asked him to see if it could be started without using the remote switch, per the Onan owner’s manual.

Later, I received a telephone call from the service desk advising that the generator service had been completed (evidently they did get it started), and that the switch problem DID require a diagnosis and that the problem had been traced to circuit board that would not take the remote start signal. He said it would be necessary to remove and reinstall the generator to replace a circuit board. The estimate for the circuit board was $244.44 and the labor estimate to remove the generator and replace the board was $325.00. He said it would take about four business days to get the board. I was away from my home state and could not spare the time to wait for the generator repair, so told them not to order the circuit board; I would have the repair done back in Colorado.

He said the broken drain could be repaired with a flexible tube, but they could not get to it for several days, so I declined to have that done. The estimate to repair the line was $60 for parts and $250 for labor.

They did not know how to tighten the mirror.

He also reported that a rear spring was cracked and recommended that springs on both sides be replaced, but suggested that it be done by a Dodge service department. (The work estimate that I received when I picked up the vehicle referred to a “collapsed suspension leaf spring”).

When I picked up the RV the bill came to $436.49 for the generator diagnosis, service, and included a $125 charge for the broken drain. I pointed out that the drain had not been repaired. The desk clerk tried to make me believe that I owed the $125 for a diagnosis. I pointed out that I had looked under the van before bringing it in for service and the leak was exactly where I had described. He called in a service supervisor who agreed to remove the $125 charge as they had only looked at and verified that the drain pipe was cracked.

The final bill was $320.

I drove part way home and at the first stop flipped the remote generator switch and it started right up. I have tested it numerous times since then and it starts every time, so there is evidently nothing wrong with the circuit card. Had I been able to stay in Sacramento for several more days, I would have paid hundreds of dollars for work that was not needed. I learned later while discussing this problem with a fellow RV owner that a known characteristic of the Onan generator in the Pleasure Way van is that if the auxiliary battery is low, the generator remote start does not work. All that was needed was to drive a few miles to charge the battery and it worked normally.

When I got home I had my local mechanic put the van on a lift and three people made close inspection of all the springs, front and back, finding NO EVIDENCE of a cracked spring, nor were they collapsed more than normal for the weight of the vehicle.

I bought two pieces of flex hose and a small section of PVC pipe at the hardware store for about $10.00 and repaired the drain myself; it took 1 1/2 hours working on a crawler in my driveway. It would take less time in a garage with a lift where one could move around more easily.

In summary: The service at the Rocklin Camping World was expensive and grossly incompetent at best, and possibly fraudulent. Given that Camping World describes itself as an Onan qualified repair shop, I suspect the latter. I paid $175 for an unnecessary diagnosis. I paid $145 for service that amounted to an oil change, air filter and new spark plug in the generator; this is about twice what the same service would cost at my local garage.

Camping World salesman cussing at customer

I have been approved for an 08 Loredo 5th Wheel, Walter Dent the salesman seemed like an okay guy to deal with at first...later in the deal he needed a purchase agreement signed and he faxed it... my fax was out of ink so I asked he scan and email it so I could print it. Three hours later I called and asked where it was, he said the girls in the back office were doing it as we spoke. I informed him it only takes a few minutes to scan and email the document, his response was " I am done" and I hung up! A few minutes later I recieved a call from him and he said " Mike do you know the meaning of FU** YOU!... I called his boss and recorded all calls and corporate has asked me to call customer service on Monday...lets see what happens with that. On the recording the boss admits that Walter did not deny the swearing, he then asked when I was coming in to Buy the camper...I told him that when Walter Dent apoligizes to me in front of the whole team and when they sell me the camper for their cost with proof. They also asked me to provide Tax Returns for 2 years with stubs for YTD for a $27, 000 deal.
We have over $160, 000 year income ...They just dont get it! Notice to all those other RV sales companies looking for unemployed RV salesmen...this guy could be a liability...be careful hiring him!

It's pretty sad that someone would even consider doing business with a salesman that he felt had treated him in such a way. ( Apology or not) I believe that Mr. Dent was attacked first and had to put up with the abuse because that is part of his job. Everyone has their limits. This guy (baffled customer) puts up a complaint on the Internet that everyone can see forever more and the only name we know is the person who the complaint is about. This complaint is a waist of my time because when I called Mr. Dent at this location to possibly buy an RV from him he didn't work there any longer. If the purpose of this complainer is to either get him fired or try to imply that Camping World treats all customers in such a way to deter them from doing business with them, it didn't work. I was treated very well and with respect when I called. If given the chance to do business with Mr. Dent I probably would and state my respect for him for not being walked all over by individuals like this cowardly, no name, complaint creating ###.

Mr. X had been working with other salespeople at the dealership. I was asked by the sales manager to take over the deal because the customer was very hard to deal with. Mr. X told me that he had been trying to buy a camper from other dealerships and was appalled at the way they had been treating him.The man had a very disgusting vocabulary. He used words in front of his wife that would make a sailor blush. As for the events over the phone. We faxed Mr. X a buyer’s order the day before this happened. He was very demeaning and didn’t believe we faxed the purchase agreement to him. He again used undesirable language. He later told me his fax machine was not working and requested that I scan and e-mail the purchase agreement to him.As Camping world does not have a scanner available to the sales force or did not at that time. Any scans had to be done from the administration office. I turned in the necessary paper work to the office and was told that it had been done. The next day Mr. X called and said he never received the e-mail. I asked the administration office to resend the e-mail. I had left the dealership heading to my Doctors office to schedule an possible ankle amputation and I probably wasn’t in the best frame of mind when I received a phone call from Mr. X . Again he was very coarse in his language and told me that he had never dealt with a more #$&**#@ company in his life. When he started cussing me again. I felt compelled to talk to him the way he had been talking to us all along. I then told him to procreate with oneself in a more colorful way. I have been in the RV industry for a number of years and have never received the treatment that I received from Mr. xx. At this time in my life I was under a lot of stress and I didn’t handle Mr. in the manner that I normally would handle a VERY trying customer. But I did not will not and never will apologize to him.
