Buffalo Paws and Claws Animal Shelter Trying to adopt a dog from this shelter

I was reviewing this site and fell in love with one of the shelter dogs. I submitted the online application and called the number available 3 times. This all occurred in the month of January 2016. By the third attempt leaving a message, I did comment on the difficulty I was having getting a return call. That day (it was a Saturday) I did get a return call from "Dawn". She did proceed to apologize for the delay - explained she had a 7 month old child and was quite busy. She was very polite and gave me alot of information on the dog I was interested in. The call ended with her stating she would reach out to the woman who was sheltering the dog and get dates when we could meet in a neutral location. NEVER HEARD BACK from her! That was the last contact I had with anyone at that shelter! I happen to look online and noticed that (recently) the dog I was inquiring about had been adopted. While I feel good for the dog finding his "forever" home, I am quite disgusted at how these adoptions are handled. It makes me question the legitimacy of the facility. None of my "referrals" were contacted, no questions were asked, I can only assume that this organization is not interested in finding homes as much as giving free pets to their family and friends. I am also hoping to file a complaint with the SPCA which has their website advertised on their website.

I am Dawn, the shelter President. You in fact DID hear back from me. You wanted to think about it, and by the time you contacted me back several weeks later, the foster mom decided to adopt him. That is the BEST situation for any animal, especially a case like his where he is incredibly timid. I’m sorry you’re unhappy but the animals are our first priority.

You cannot say they are giving away animals for free to family and friends. They have adopted out thousands of dogs and cats. Clearly the dog got adopted which is what any rescues goal is. You probably didn't hear back because a better fitting home was found or because you were denied adoption. Just because you say you want an animal doesn't automatically mean you get it. The rescue or shelter decides where is best for each animal that they put a lot of time and money into. It also sounds like that woman was quite busy doing rescue and having a baby...good for her.

Buffalo Paws and Claws Animal Shelter Parvo pups

My daughter adopted 2 pups from Kristy at Buffalo Paws and Claws. They assumed they were both healthy! Both pups had PARVO and it cost $5000 as they were in OP Vet hosp for a few days. Poor pups were so sick!. The hosp told us that a pup from the same litter was brought in and died several days before! They said they told Kristy to let my daughter know RIGHT AWAY! She called 3 days later while the PARVO was making them sicker by the day! A 4th pup was also brought in and all 3 pups were secluded in the back of the hospital. The courts will make the final decision on this one!

That is really terrible . We get get our paperwork but as you have seen we really had to work for it. Vets needed the paperwork before they work administer any additional shots. But we got results from channel 4 no matter what Kristy says I was told by a news 4 repm that she was contacted and that's when we received our paperwork. I would never go through her organization again. It looks like it has beena nightmare of many people. Too bad for the animals. And they have the guts to email for donations ...go figure

Buffalo Paws and Claws Animal Shelter Paperwork on animals

Buffalo paws and claws president Kristy Cordova was paid for 2 puppies and promised paperwork & neutering certificates. She provided none of the paperwork and we are out hundreds of dollars.

Vets need things in writing. I did listen but hey, I took your word for it that the paperwork would there...it wasn't . Telling is not in writing...you can say whatever you want...that doesn't make it true...I contacted News 4 ..see again ...you don't know what you are talking about...Whatever...believe what you will... we are done and that is that

It required a call to News 4 to receive any results. Pretty sad!

Well when I was told it's in the mail and I'll fax it right over and it doesn't arrive...slander...vets do not want to treat new animals without knowing their history or the vacinations they received previously...I couldn't even get that...If you can't handle the work load do something about it...I'm glad I took the animals to the vet the next day...they needed medical attention...I needed verification of vacinations and would have been happy with that be couldn't treceive it until after a month. I was told the paperwork would be with the puppy when I picked it up...it was not available ..Great record keeping if you don't know when I purchased the pups...You should get the story straight before you respond!

For all those above, we have been under new management since 2015. We apologize for any issues prior to that but we weren’t in charge at that time.

Kristy was one of, if not the most, unprofessional "business woman" I have EVER dealt with. It's disgusting to know someone like this could be in charge of an organization. She lied about a few of the pups being sick and wouldn't answer or return any of my calls ;she would only respond through text message.

I am also sorry to see the comments and complaints against this shelter as I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my experience with them. My boyfriend adopted two kittens several years ago from BPC and when it came to looking for a dog, BPC was top on the list. Even after checking out several other shelters, in the end we chose this organization because of their accurate presentation, clear compassion, and assistance 100% of the way. I had nothing but great encounters with Kristy who was very flexible with our needs and even came out to our home after the adoption to check on our dog. We also received her paperwork in the mail within a week, including a certificate for a first vet appointment which was extremely helpful in establishing a relationship with a local vet. I would recommend BPC whole-heartidly!

I was not too happy with our experience either. Our puppy was not healthy when we brought her home. She was supposedly vaccinated and dewormed. She was a sick little girl when we brought her home. She was loaded with hook worms, tape worms and Coccidia. She was knocking on deaths door. She was not 8 weeks old but 12 weeks. She was male nourished. I can't say that was because of Buffalo Paws and Claws as she did come from another Shelter in Georgia. However, this pup should have been checked over before going to her fur ever home. We did call Kristy and she said we could bring a stool sample to her vet in EA, but this Vet had already checked her or so we were told. I opted not to do that and take her to our Vet whom we have great trust in. He pumped her full of fluids, gave her anti nausea meds along with other meds to treat the hook worms. Tape worms was not his priority at the moment. We treated them a little later. Even with the above mentioned, I wouldn't change a thing. She was meant to be our dog. When you adopt you take on the responsibility of said animal. We loved her the minute we brought her home. We didn't even use the spay certificated that came with her. We once again opted to use our own Vet whom we trust. She's now a healthy, energetic 2 year old who would kiss your face off if you let her.

We adopted from Buffalo Paws and Claws nearly two years ago. I can't say I was happy about it either. My puppy was very sick when we got her. At first I thought she was just depressed and missing her litter mates. That was not the case. Our puppy who was supposedly dewormed and checked for Parvo was NOT! Within 48 hours her condition worsened to the point that we would have lost her if we waited any longer to get her medical attention. I called our vet first thing Monday morning and brought her in. She was loaded with hook worms tape worms and Coccidia! She was dehydrated and male nourished. She was not the 8 weeks we were told she was but older. She was 12 weeks, our Vet told us that by looking at her teeth. Even with all of that being said, I look at it this way. Our puppy was meant to come home with us. Had she not, she may not have survived, that's how sick she really was. She's now a healthy and very active two year old dog. She sits, listens to come, does paw, other paw, rolls over and loves to be loved. She will lick your face off. We love her and wouldn't change a thing. She was meant to be our dog.

I am dismayed to see so many comments regarding this rescue group. As in so many instances in our busy world, people often are quick to comment(whether via email, by phone, or in person)when they are displeased, but take the good work and good efforts for granted. For myself I will ask to speak to a manager (even if I need to wait a bit) to acknowledge a courteous employee. And...the key word here is PAID. As one who fostered and transported rescued Springer Spaniels and evaluated their prospective future homes, I have a general ( but not inclusive) idea of what Kristy and Dawn do with their own time and money in behalf of so so many cats and dogs--not just in their vicinity but traveling hundreds of miles to pull what they can from HIGH KILL shelters. Having lived many years in 3 southern states, I know of what I speak...Now I shall relate my adoption experience: My rescued springer was in a deplorable hoarding situation--never exercised, eating poor poor quality food when fed at all, and living in floor to ceiling junk and newspaper excrement and urine. BPC saved her life---pulled her, had 800 dollars worth of dental work done on her, put her in a FABULOUS foster home which gave her her first good food, outdoor fun in years and a lot of badly needed self assurance. I keep in contact with both Kristy and the former foster mom often via emal pictures. To those of you who have not been pleased with YOUR experiences, I am sorry... No rescue group functions without some mistakes and mishaps---wondering how much volunteering you have had with other rescue groups or, hands on with this one?

Kristy is unrieliable and a liar. AS Far as I'm concern I don't trust this agency. I called and emailed her several times and she couldn't even respond. I understand shes busy and has a life, but if your running an organization this is unprofessional behavior. She obvioulsly lacks the skills and the maturity of a president of an organization. From reviewing the comments on here I could relate to all the negative comments from dealing with her. What she needs is to be honest to people and to herself if she cannot or is unwilling to help. I don't think that is too much to ask.

I don't believe none of this BS. I have been there when they have done adoptions and I have witnessed them hand over paperwork at adoption events or just coming in browsing at petco. They have the best Volunteers ever. There was a lady there that was pregnant and still hugging a cat and she looked about due. Where were you when these animals needed help? Where were you when the Staff from BPC drove across states to get animals. How about you guys put more time and effort in your animals that online forums. As for not getting a animal obviously there was a better fit than yourself. DO NOT BLAME them for what ever you expected. Everyone knows animals take time to adjust. This shelter is saving animals from death row what are you doing to help these animals? NOT A DAM THING. So keep your Negative comments to your self. And stop with the SLANDER and LIES. They are doing this with the funds they raise, donations, and out of their own pockets. I HAVEN'T adopted only because I cant have pets. But I go and donate and just stop in to show support to BPC. I will continue to support them If you don't then go about your business and GET A LIFE.

I have had my share of problems with this shelter too. We were told our dog was completely housebroken and we are now left with a completely ruined carpet. We had it cleaned but the smell are stains remain. We also had problems with our dog nipping and we were told we were doing something wrong. We asked multiple times for shot records and were also unsuccessful. We will never work with this shelter again. We walked in with a great opinion but are leaving with the opinion that money matters more than the animals and that's just sad. We are now working with another shelter and we are very happy and satisfied.
