Brown Mackie College Financial aide dept.

First of all I must say I am extremely upset with the fact that I had completed my FASFA in February of this year (2012) It is now May 10, 2012 and my FASFA hasn't been added on because they have still not received the software needed to add it on? This is something that should have already have been done. I am also upset about how you are treated when asking for or turning in a stipend. I shouldn't have to stand in the main entry and be questioned about how much money I have in there, am I sure and so on before I receive my stipend, same thing happens when turning it in and now I have to actually have a meeting with the President of the school bring in my bills, rent and etc to even receive the money I am suppose to get! I feel this is ridiculous! Last month I had to have a class in a motel due to lack of space in the college, not to mention the news was at the school this month. If I must say if we don't have room now why would we publicize this school at this moment? This is just a "few" of several issues going on here at this college. I will by all means not be referring anyone to this school. Everything about it is wrong all the way down to some of the most "ghetto" acting teachers I have EVER seen! No professionalism what so ever from the majority of the teachers there but they sure will grade you on yours. I will be letting other student know about this site so they to can bring their issues here and hopefully something will be done about this school. I would just drop but it's hard to once you've already got so much tied up into it already. I should have done a little more research on the school before I entered I just learned their success level is 41%

Brown Mackie College Fraud, Deception, Coecion

There are so many things that are wrong with, Brown Mackie College's, it's hard to know where to even start! First of all, the entire recruiting and enrollment process is not only deceptive and misleading, students are flat out LIED to everything from class scheduling to financial aid. BMC doesn't want to let the cat out of the bag that they don't have a regional accreditation, thus non of their credits will transfer to other local colleges. They are a college for profit and believe me the only thing they are interested in is lining their corporate pockets. It's definitely a real shame! There are a lot of decent students that do attend BMC with hopes and dreams of bettering the lives of themselves and their families; however, those dreams very quickly turn into nightmares for many people! There are a hand full of us that all started at the same time that have experienced different problems. No more so than those that signed up and enrolled in the OTA program. Most, (not all but most), were not told that they would have to take the Compass Test, pass it and if they don't pass it take the refresher courses, pass them and then take the Compass Test again and if they can't pass it they can't get into the program; however, person's in that course study still get charged for the first semester. As far as the classes and the instructors go, that aspects an even bigger joke! Like I said, you do have a hand full of students there that are serious about improving their lot but the larger majority of those that attend BMC, only about 1% are college material! You have people that can't even read, write or speak on an elementary level, let alone a college level. Almost everyone at the college makes a 4.0.! Instructors allow people who walk in an hour late or those who are going to leave early to sign the attendance book. An instructor who was honest enough to answer my questions, based on anonymity, said flat out that is done so they can get the money. This school for profit is just that, for profit and all about their bottom line! Open book and note test almost every class! It's all a big scam and I wish I would have known what a scam it was before I signed on the dotted line! Now, 6 months into it, I feel trapped because of the financial debt that I've already accrued and if that isn't punishment enough, it's also been discovered that most major employers look at a BMC degree and laugh! Just a disclaimer in as much as those of us who are suffering have a portion of the blame, as we should have been more thorough in checking this college out. Still, it seems to me that the federal government would be interested to know how student's are being done, and the dirty tactics that are being used to entrapped people who genuinely want to improve their lot in life, only to be done dirty. If you are someone who goes to a BMC, please respond back to [protected]@gmail.com. We'd love to hear your story and see if your willing to join us in trying to expose this injustice! There is way more that could be told; however, to protect certain individuals from retribution, they can't be told here on this public forum. Food for thought, "friends don't let friends go to BMC"!

I went to Brown Mackie in Michigan City, IN. for Veterinary Technology & was assured that their program was accredited & that when I graduated, I would be fully prepared to take the National/State exams & be able to get a job in any clinic. While I was there-I did very well, but the problem is-what they teach is not what real-world veterinary clinics require. Through sheer determination-going in on days off to use the microscopes, library, equipment, etc.-I graduated, passed the VTNE/State exams with flying colors & was licensed as an RVT. I was concerned with my lack of 'hands on' training, but was told repeatedly that once I got into a clinic-I would pick everything up quickly & be fine. This was one of many, many lies I was told by the Brown Mackie staff. Had I known that the education I was going to get was NOT up to standards, I never would've signed on, but the recruiting staff were very skilled at weaving all kinds of BULL#### into convincing me my dream of becoming an RVT would be realized through them. I am convinced that Brown Mackie is nothing but a scam & I am not the only one that feels that way. I am now stuck with $29, 000+ in student debt & did not get the education I was promised. I have been unable to work for the last 2 years because of being assaulted by a former boss (veterinarian), so I don't know how I am going to be able to pay the student LOANs. I've been told that there is a class action lawsuit against Brown Mackie & I would love to know how to get involved. If I had gotten the education I was promised & was able to work in that field, fully prepared & trained-I would have no problem, but since the education I received was sketchy at best-I'm livid that I wasted 2 years of my life & only got years in debt. Anyone have any information on a lawsuit against Brown Mackie...? By the way-I am 1 of only 2 students in my class that were able to go on, pass the exams & become licensed.

I've been at brown Mackie for two years now and have never had any problems . I started at the Louisville campus and transferred to the northern Kentucky campus. The majority of my classes have been closed book closed note test. I'm in the MA program and all classes related to the program were like that on the test. No notes on tests! However I do agree that if a person comes in late or leaves early they shouldn't be allowed to sign in. It's simply not fair to those of us who are trying to better ourselves, plus it's a huge distraction when people come in late. But like I said I've yet to have any issues with them. I have two months left and I will be done!

Brown Mackie College Financial Aid Fraud

I was supposed to received a state grant of $867.00 in December of 2011, the State department Deposited it in the schools account on January 10, 2012 and it is now February 17, 2012 and my money has still not hit my account. this is not the first time this has happened to me. The financial Aid department here needs to be AUDITED, where is my money and why is it taking so long to hit my student account? I tried to call the main office and was given the run around and disconnected every time. this is unacceptable and needs to be addressed right away.

There are steps that the department has to go through to get in grant money. It's actually not "your" money. It is money that should be used towards paying for your education. GET A JOB!

I agree 100%. I was a student at Brown Mackie for a little over a year before I realized I wasn't learning anything that was going to make me successful in my chosen field. The amount of money they charge is ridiculous, especially when you find the majority of your instructors aren't even trained to be instructors. They wouldn't even accept credits I had earned from a major reputable University so that they could collect more money by making me repeat them. When I finally reached my technical classes they were a joke. Now that I have withdrawn and found a reputable school where I can get a decent education, I find that I do not have enough federal funds remaining to complete my education. I am just sick over the amount of money I owe for nothing thanks to Brown Mackie scams. I don't understand how the Government continues to provide funds for attending this school. I trusted that if the government was willing to provide money for this school it was reputable...wow was I wrong!

Brown Mackie College They are not fully accredited and their credits do not transfer to other universities

I graduated with a 4.0 (1 of 4 students). Brown Mackie boasts a lifetime job assistance program. They didn't send me on 1 interview in 11 months. They are not fully accredited and their credits do not transfer to other universities. They do not inform their prospective students of this info and they still recruit for programs such as paralegal and vet tech when there is no market for these in the area, leading students to believe that there are. They won't even hire their own graduates for positions open on their campus.

I entered Brown Mackie's LPN Program in the fall of 2010 and discovered within 3 months that they are not accredited with the board of nursing. They also were on probation for 1 year at that time. I withdrew from the program, even though they told the LPN students that they are going to be accredited by November of 2010. Since then, i met a woman who use to work at Brown Mackie and she told me that they lie and deceive students, basically a marketing scam! Of course now Im left with a $1600.00 student bill. Choose wisely what school you go to...

I found out the hard way after my first year (of a two-year) degree - that their credits are worthless at any other NE Ohio colleges. I am now discovering that employers consider Brown Mackie graduates to be the least desirable for hire. That's an expensive way to get no respect. Needless to say I'm cutting my losses for now and starting over at a real college - to get a better degree for less money! I am seeking to join in a class action suit against them for their blatant moral depravity.

Brown Mackie College TITUTION

I went to Brown Mackie and didn't learn all that I should have learned. I went to do my hours in MA, got there and was not prepared for the job. They are saying I owe them money and can't get my transcripts or degree until I pay. For one, I don't owe them nothing and for two, I didn't get the education to prepare me for the MA field. Brown Mackie did not have the material or the equipment that was need for any of my Clinicals. I've got papers that I didn't sign but was signed by them. I need help in suing them. Anyone out there.

I know your pain and experience is a hard teacher because I choose this scam of a college for a education and there are no words that can express the heartache that has been endured.
I am sorry and may we continue to strive for improvement within our life's.

Brown Mackie College lack of community support

Parkview Hospital and Lutheran Hospital will not accept a Brown Mackie application. They are 2 of the largest medical providers in the tri-county area. Brown Mackie College cannot offer community supported clinicals other than hole-in-the-wall offices that want free help with cleaning and tasks any high school student could perform. I am paying a parent plus loan until the year 2027, my daughter has the same job (cna) she had prior to attending Brown Mackie College. She was on the honor roll every semister [protected], Associate Degree in Medical Assisting. She has a solid work history with perfect attendance and reviews. So I ask you where does the problem lie... At registration our credit report and income were reviewed my daughter(19 years old) and I were told by a women that if she(daughter) became pregnant her education would be free. Who advises that... their goal is to get as much federal money as possible for selling classes no one will acknowledge therefore that student will not be self-sufficient. Government pays for classes and supports graduate and child, how is that not frauding the government and student... I told the women to shut-up and invited her to step outside. We had good jobs then, now we are all struggling to survive and pay Sallie Mae $210.66 month. I have contacted local, state and federal agencies in addition to a local tv station and a lawyer. I am looking to join a class action suit, together we may be able to shut them down and hopefully get a refund and/or cancel debits.

Brown Mackie College False Claims- Financial Aid Fraud - Official Misconduct

07/31/2011

***Abuse includes falsification, distortion, or misrepresentation of information from a school official. The College Official’s actions towards me are fraudulent, Intimidating, harassing and unacceptable to me. I want the United States Of America to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law and I am placing all involved under a citizen arrest and be held accountable. FULLY *********

This is a formal complaint against Brown Mackie College-Phoenix-Tucson, The Art institute of Phoenix and EDMC in its entirety. I started brown Mackie on 11/30/2009 I enrolled in the program to get an associate’s of science degree in Surgical Technology which was $24, 000.00 when I started the program. College officials told me they were nationally accredited which were 96 credit hours approx. 1400 hours. I found out in august 2010 that the accreditation department was coming to accredit the program which I was already enrolled in and the officials lied to me and everyone else in that program. Since I started I have been on the DEANs list and PRESIDENTS list and received a CLASSIC CITIZEN award as well as Mentoring for new students who come in as well as volunteer my time to the children’s first academy every time the school has helped the community.
I never missed not one single day of school in 14 months, until I was Forced to sit out a month in February 2010 (WILLFUL OBSTRUCTION OF LEARNING) due to the College Surgical Tech Administrator who was the Head of the Department, telling at the time, told me Donna you are going to have to sit out in February 2011 because no one is teaching that class next month and it is no longer a required class to take as credits for your associates degree in surgical technology" I said well put me in a class I need, I said back. I don’t want to sit out... She returned with well you are one month ahead of everyone so they have to catch up to you. I said BUT I DONT WANT TO SIT OUT. Shayna Labou said there is really nothing I can do so she walks me to the financial aid Department and tells Patricia (The Financial aid supervisor) that I need to sit out next month in February and then she walks away and leaves me with Patricia. I said Patti I don’t want to sit out, and I am Very upset I wanted to have perfect attendance through my whole academic career.
She said ok you can leave now. I was dumb founded. So I went to Patrick Selenas who works at the registrar’s office and I asked him, what is the next class you have me scheduled for? And he said Pharmacy for the surgical technologist. I said thank you and left. But I was even dumber Founded and totally confused at the fact that I received a phone a phone call about two weeks later from an admissions rep that says Donna I need you to come in and sign a new enrollment agreement. I said WHAT? WHY? She added well you’re no longer enrolled here at brown Mackie Phx and if you want to start your class in two weeks you need to re-enroll. I WAS IN COMPLETE SHOCK. I never dropped out I had my next class scheduled I was so upset. My now PERFECT ATTENDANCE and DEANS LITS was ruined. I made a name for myself at Brown Mackie and everyone who works there knows me. I went back to the college and I looked at the enrollment agreement and I noticed it said a little over 33, 000 as the cost for attendance. I said this is CRAZY it was originally paying 24, 000 now I have to pay 33, 000 she said well if you want to start class in two weeks.
So I felt like I had no choice because I never wanted to take off a month. She also said I need you to fill out this form why you dropped out of school. I SAID I NEVER DROPPED OUT I WAS FORCED TO SIT OUT SO PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS CORRECT. She said well go ahead and fill this paper out anyway I need to put it in your file cause you are on probation it’s a standard thing that has to do with financial aid when you drop out.. I was confused. Here I have this new lady talking down to me like I was a loser because she thinks I dropped out. NOT CORRECT! FORCED TO WITHDRAW! I was not yelling either I just felt like I got hit by a truck and I was in shock..
I went to financial aid and all my aid was messed up now. I had to fill out a new award now when I already had it to where I could survive on the extra aid for food and to help out with gas and insurance. I completed 8 credits for the term but they were acting like the college was keeping that money cause like I said three months later they refunded some of the tuition money, but after three months of ### they finally gave me a refund but only for the class and fee not for the book charges. Two days later I’m in class and financial aid want to see me so I leave class and Carol said I need you to sign this award, I said I did with Patti the other day. Carol said well it’s wrong, so sign this award letter, I trusted the official and I signed it. I went back to class with my copy and i noticed she was trying to take out a Parent plus loan out on me when I am an independent student on disability doing my best to rehabilitate myself. So i went back and told carol you had me sign a fraud false document, I want that original copy I signed, you can’t take a parent loan out on me I am an independent disable student and I am separate from my parents.
She gave me the biggest attitude. I said have the correct award letter, a new one, and I will come back next break, I went back and told her I will review the new one but I need to get back to class. I will look this one over and bring it back later. She said “I WILL JUST HAVE YOU PULLED OUT OF CLASS” LITERALLY YELLING AT ME WITH THE BIGGEST ATTITUDE. I said go ahead but right now I am missing out on learning because of the fraud false claim you made in the first place. So my next break I took my classmate

Tiffany who can testify to this fact) with me to see carol cause I was afraid to go by myself and she was still being rude to me and harassing me, yelling at me, in front of tiffany. Carol said just sign the the damn form. I asked carol why the date said 2/25/2011 and I am signing it in June 2011. Carol yelled again sign it. I said please don’t get an attitude with me because of the fraud false claims you made in the first place. Carol is a trusted official and knowingly had me sign a financial aid document that would be a lie if given to a United States of America Official, so I signed the award document because I trusted her to do the right thing.
Tiffany could not believe the nerve of carol treating me that way and neither could I. I also noticed when I got on my student portal to check my degree audit there were two separate DIFFERENT degree audits. I was confused once again. Here I am trying doing my best to rehabilitate myself and i had created a positive, safe environment at school for myself for the past 14 months. In a matter of two weeks the college had made fraud false claims that were confusing, uncomfortable, and I feel very unsafe. I was crushed by these people that seemed like they no longer cared about me and my accomplishments of perfect attendance and my G.P.A of 3.71 and my safety. The Student Portal has false claims and information on the portal about my grades and my aid and needs an investigation. The college has three different portals that are all False, misleading, confusing, and distorted. They college has a lack of ability to management skills and financial documents.
I didn’t understand what the college had done to my little green progress degree line in the student portal, to see what I had left till I graduated. I went an spoke to Patrick Salenas in registrar, he said I have nothing to do with the portal, he said talk to bonnie, so I went to bonnie she said you need to log on to the new portal, I said what new portal and she told me. The new portal had no degree audit, and if i wanted to check my financial aid or account summary I had to click in the new portal that took me to the old one. I started having an issue and concerns with the student portal because it said i attempted 4 credits on one portion of the portal and the class was listed as unsuccessful attempt... and then I went to the other degree audit and it said I had changed programs. Which I NEVER did and it had a different class listed as credits taken credits unsuccessful. for two months I was putting tickets in to talk to someone higher up and I didn’t get much response other than a revolving door. I’m about to rip my hair out cause no one seems to think anything is wrong with my portal.
I finally put a complaint into AZ Department of Post-Secondary Education and the President of the school called me and I went to talk to her and told her ALL the issues but I really didn’t get to far other then her apologizing ALOT for everyone at the college. She commented on how detailed I am even over people that worked under her. She finally saw my side and realized I was having several problems and they were addressed again by all the departments but nothing was properly handled. The college and everyone down there other than the instructors have driven me to the point that I don’t even care what they think of me, I just want to address and correct mistakes that are not mine.
They willfully held me from learning; they forced me to ruin my 14 months perfect attendance. Not to mention I had Pell grant money of 925.00 that the college said they returned because my 8 credits was not considered half time with the department of education. When I checked the NSDLS it said nothing about returned money. I called the department of edu, they said the school is the only one that can update the grant part of the site, and as soon as the college updates the information they have it posts to e.d.u site that day, but Patti in my financial aid office said it don’t update for (6) six months. The information from patti was a complete blatant lie from a trusted official at the college. So it was charged back to my account as -925.00. I sent an email to carol Swanson that I wanted a copy of every original financial document so I could see that the money was returned to the department of education she said

I was under the impression that the rT24 was to be completed 30 days from withdrawal. It’s now 5 months later and they didn’t complete the form, which is against the law per the department of education. I also was given a re-pack of aid but carol and the college, were factiously trying to take a parent plus loan out on me, but I told them to give me my original back. I was given a copy of my ledger card which clearly states in carols handwriting, I attempted 8 credits and I was Half-time, but they withdrew me and tried to keep the my Pell grant money and my tuition for the class they were no longer offering for my program I enrolled in. Also the new award repack I signed it stated I was a graduate student and not a repack which is false, and I asked carol about it in front of tiffany and she just gave me an attitude and a half answer about why it said that so I left confused and appalled. My account says 4 years of aid but I am a 2 year student.
I REQUIRE an investigation of my whole file and all records and an audit done on the financial aid department of Brown Mackie College PHX-TUCS- Art institute and there EDMC and their cohorts, done by the Arizona Commission/Board for private Postsecondary Education, NASSGAP, Arizona higher education, and the proper authorities for a financial aid audit and any other authority you see fit. Also
I was enrolled in two prior colleges and gave them a copy of my transcript but they made me take a compass test to determine if I had the ability to benefit and they said I failed the English part of the compass test and forced me to take a FUNDAMENTAL OF ENGLISH CLASS, but they already knew I could benefit due to my prior college records with mostly A’s for the classes I took. I feel the college does this intentionally to get people off track on purpose so they can keep the students money for the 4 or 8 credit terms. The college is showing a BAD DEBT from me as part of that curriculum change of over 400 dollars for that term and the class they never gave me to me. If this information is found to be true this is considered PRE-MEDITATED FRAUD and WILLFUL OBSTRUCTION OF LEARNING and want The College and their Cohorts to be held ACCOUNTABLE. I feel I have been the best student I could be to represent the school in an extra ordinary positive up-lifting way, since I enrolled in 2009. the College has totally burdened me because of this whole situation of me bring a drop-out and taking months to return the money that was rightfully mine to live on. This whole situation has CONSUMED me, my TIME, and my sanity trying to correct the the wrongs the college officials have bestowed upon me.
It has caused me undue hardship and I feel sabotaged, and intimidated by the official’s actions towards me. This can’t be the thanks I get for all the hard work I put into my education and representing Brown Mackie Phx- Tucson- EDMC- The art institute of Phoenix to the best of my abilities. I feel they willfully obstructed me from learning and I want a complete audit done of my financial account the three enrollment agreements I signed starting from 250 a credit for general education classes to 275 a credit for SURGICAL Core and 330 for CONCENTRATION. The program I stated which was an associate of science degree in surgical technologist. My student portal says I transferred to a different program but never did that was 24000.00 I want my money refunded or adjusted accordingly and my school records to reflect I did drop out of school and that I did not transfer to another program. I was under the understanding that I was a half time student because i took 8 credits in the term. They said because it’s not listed in the catalog for a leave of absence, but I didn’t leave and the college says I attempted 8 credits and did not complete them, which is false. I can’t see how I could have taken a full 12 credits when the college forced me to take a month off and didn’t offer any class for me to take in return.
They are to be held responsible for the cost of this occurrence from their pocket not mine I don’t want the college’s burden they cause by lying to me and falsifying Documents about the program I started and reflecting on my record. The student portal needs to be investigated; it seems distorted, fictitious, misleading and just plain falsely manipulated. The college has caused undue hardship on me and according to the 2009/2010 catalog they should not and will not do that to a student. The college has, financially, and emotionally caused undue hardship to me. I have proof of all documents. Connie mallard who is the president spoke to me and addressed issues and as she agreed with me that the actions toward me were wrong and should never have happened. I told her at the time after ALL HER APOLOGIES and she was very kind but I don’t think she understood how burdened all this has been on me and still is. Nothing got handled to my satisfaction.

This complaint states all the harassment Carol Swanson used towards me in an Intimidating, abusive way and the false Document award letter that she had me sign to take out a fictitious loan, and by her willful obstruction of learning by pulling me out of class while I was trying to learn and the College and all their cohorts as a whole for being an aggressive and greedy for-profit institution and for not keeping me in there best interest above monetary gain. Also in financial aid, Patricia Curtis, who stated “here comes trouble” when I walked in to the aid office, and the admissions department for rail-rodding me into a 33, 120 dollar contract that was supposed to be 24, 000.00. The complaint is towards the admission and financial aid officials for their aggressive, intimidation toward me to sign legal forms for contracts and financial aid award letter before I had a chance to look them over thoroughly, then basically using my education as a scare tactic to get me to sign the forms. Carol for yelling at me and treating me like I was a minority and feeling as though I can’t even ask questions about anything let alone aid money. The Officials have made me feel so uncomfortable to even step into the financial aid offices at the College or to even talk to the Officials in person. They are all held to a professional standard and having anything less than the standard of care is misconduct that has and is adversely affecting the interest of me personally as a student and my studies and has adversely affected me as a human being pushed around, and humiliated with their bullying, unprofessional, unacceptable misconduct. It also adversely affects EDMC in its whole entirety, Brown Mackie College- Phoenix-Tucson, art institutes and/or its reputation. I have supporting documents and witness to the lack of safety and support, and best interest of me as a student.

FULLY

I should never, nor should anyone else feel the way I was made to feel and still feel.

BROWN MACKIE COLLEGE ALSO LEAD ME TO BELIEVE I HAD TO BUY MY BOOKS IN THE BOOK STORE INSIDE THE COLLEGE, I was not allowed to get funds for my books and supplies anywhere else, The officials would not release my aid unless I filled out a stipends paper which no one ever told me I needed too. THE COLLEGE OVER CHARGED ME FOR ALL MY BOOKS AND SUPPLIES AND DIDN’T OFFER USED BOOKS.
I feel with all the colleges they already have in place, this has all been a PRE-MEDITATED act against me and the united states of America.

Brown Mackie College Brown Mackie

So, I decided to go back to school, as I had paid an old student loan off at tax time. I was interested in a medical career, and wanted the option of going on after graduation for a bachelor's degree. After speaking with a rep, I decided on Surg Tech. She explained that they were a nationally accredited college and therefore thier credits would transfer nationwide. What I know now that I didn't know then, is the difference between NATIONALLY accredited and REGIONALLY accredited. In short, national accredidation sounds better, but isn't. It's bull.
Anyway, I left my recruiters office and went to financial aid. There my f.a. advisor, Jason, helped me screw myself dry. I had gone to school in the mid 90's and had loans, one that I had just paid off I had thought was my last, but I did ask him should I owe on loans, would it show up when he applied for me? He assured me I was eligible, and that if I owed, we would know before I started classes the next week. So, I went to school. I did the work, I spent the time, I got an A.
The day before finals for the first class, Jason called me to inform me that there had been a small balance left on my Perkins loan and that through the years it had tripled due to interest, and my loans would'nt go throgh until I satisfied the loan, but if I could get it paid by the end of the term, all would be well. I told him I wanted to drop for the time being and get it taken care of, but Jason assured me that if I wasn't able to get it paid in time, Brown Mackie Akron would allow me to walk away only owing for books, but would not recieve the credits. I conceded.
Tax time, i got my w-2's and went to HnR Block for a rapid refund, taking the hit so I could get the money faster. Then I called the Dept of Ed, who referred me to the attorney general, who referred me to Akron U, who referred me back to th AG, who referred me to a debt collection attorney, who referred me back to A.U., who referred me back to the AG. WOW! Anyway, I got the total finally and sent them the money order. It was supposed to post the last day of the term, just in time! It didn't. $2.50 in interst had accumulated from the time I mailed it untill the time it was recieved, so it was NOT paid in full. But they said the University could forgive it, if they wanted to. Short story, they did'nt want to.
So, I called Jason and told him the bad news. This time, he told me he did'nt know whether the powers that be would forgive ANYTHING, and it depended on if I continued at Brown Mackie how much I would owe. By now, I had seen what they were offering, I had learned the difference between regional accredidation (good) and national accredidation (bad). I had also found bad review after bad review online. I realized I had made a BIG mistake trusting them at thier word. But, i was my fault for that. But in the end, I have no intention of accepting an education from an institution that decieved me for thier own benefit. I am raising 2 children on an income below the poverty level, and wind up doubling my debt for B.M.'s benefit. $4500 for 3 classes, for credits that count nowhere else? Really?
Don't jump into an education, do your research, and go to a REAL school. What Brown Mackie wanted to do was rob me of my options, and forcing me through threat of debt to continue at thier sub-par, over-priced school. Do yourself a favor, and just keep laughing at thier lame commercials, don't screw up and call them, even if you don't go they will call you like you owe them anyway.

Brown Mackie College False information regarding accreditation

I hope their are other in Phoenix that have or had the same problem and also this is a advise to other people wanting to attend the school...I'm from the Phoenix Location of Brown Mackie College...I have been at the school since Dec 2010. Since the time I wanked through the door I have been lied t0. I was told that the school was accredited and i would have no problem transfering my credit to another school. I understand transfering of credit would be my General Courses such as Eng, math etc..the other classes are up to the other schools descretion. What I was not told was the Brown Mackie College of Phoenix is only National not Regional, which when i signed up I was told they had both. I have talked to other schools and universities about this and they told me "sorry we cant use your credits"... My plan and goal was to finish my BS with Brown Mackie and then transfer to ASU Law. I now have a set back of 1 year because they did not disclose this information to me, nor did they disclose that when startesd even though I asked if their Accredidation was in good standing, they did not have accredidation in Dec and recieved their accrediation Jan 2011. Im tried of these schools not telling the truth so we all register with them so they can recieve the thousands of dollars and we become indebut with a degree that is useless. Im thinking of bring a class action together in Phoenix. What you think?

Brown Mackie College child withdrew from school

my daughter started at brown mackie in august of 2010 for medical assistance. she was excited an happy to be in college. everythin was goin ok except she started sayin they dont learn anything in class. as time went on she continued to go. Feb. of this year i applied for her a parent plus name under my name and was approved for it. that was fine.in march i received some of the loan money. on march 13 i my dughtercame home an said she was bein kicked out of school for failin a math class in december of last year. she went an talk to someone an they told her to an withdrew file an appeal. supposedly the teacher made a mistake on one of her grades. she was so upset an cryin. shefiled an appeal an was still kicked out of school. now what my problem is how did the school let me get a loan for her in feb. of 2011 if she failed in december. now im pissed because i took out this loan an not once did the school inform her or me that she was failin. now theey want her to come bac. i was so upset that i went up there an cursed out the teacher. before i did that, i overheard anutha young lady complainin about the exact same thing. as i sit an listen, the teacher who is supposin to be teachin the class was on the cell phone havin a personal conversation for a long time then i jus blew up! i thought ivy tech was a bad school. they make it sound good wit one class a week. thats jus the advertisement to get people in the school then they make fools out of u. IF U WANT A EDUCATION DO NOT ATTEND BROWN MACKIE IN INDIANAPOLIS. ITS JUS LIKE LIVIN IN THE GHETTO. AS LONG AS U ARE THERE, U WILL NEVA GET AHEAD.

Wonder if person who commented to this is from brownmackie themselves. Mothers spelling has nothing to do with complaint. Daughter is the one in school. Besides I hear this complaint all the time. Might be something to it. Not everyone can be wrong. Unfortunately I feel school needs to be checked into an not just in Indiana.

Wow. This woman's lack of education shows, doesn't it? Perhaps if mom had placed a value upon her own education, her daughter wouldn't have failed. Sidebar: I love the caution placed above this dialogue box, "Please check text spelling before submitting a comment." I'm guessing mom's reading ability to be as below par as her spelling.

Brown Mackie College Credits not tranferrable, not creditable they lied

My problem with BM is that they claim to be acreditable school, but after attending there and graduating from my program of medical assistant I still have not been able to get a job. I am not attending Ivy Tech in Valparaiso and none of my credits from BM would transfer. I had to take almost all of my classes over again due to the false notion about credit transferring. I also realize that BM level of education that they provide is way undersatisfactory. I am taking the same classes at Ivy Tech that I took at BM and the level of education that is being taught is night and day. Brown Mackie's level of education is only one third of the education you recieve at Ivy Tech. This explains why each class at BM only lasted one month. A real college/university class lasts a full semester or sixteen weeks. THEY ARE A FRAUD. tHEY STEAL PEOPLES HARD EARNED MONEY. Brown Mackie college needs to stopped.

Brown Mackie is a JOKE. The teachers are rude & aren't educated themselves. All they care about is MONEY. If anyone reading this is planning on going to Brown Mackie, think again! You WILL regret it! Go to a REAL school. All of the comments above sticking up for that "school", are obviously getting a pay check & having fun pretending to be a REAL teacher. BEWARE! You will pay a TON of money & never find a job because any respectable hospital / nursing home, will NOT hire you once they see Brown Mackie as the college you attended. Worst mistake I've ever made! Ivy Tech is the way to go :)

By the way, Brown Mackie is "fully" accredited. And, if you did attend a school that was not accredited, WHO SHOULD YOU REALLY BE BLAMING? Look in the mirror and you'll find the answer.

Looks like you guys have grudge against Brown Mackie. The school is accredited by the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges & Universities and licensed by the state. All of which is recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education. I had no problem getting a job. It took a little while because of the economy. It is true that not every college accepts Brown Mackie's credits. It's up to the college you plan to attend to accept or not accept Brown Mackie's or any other college's credits. These these things you need to check out before attending Brown Mackie or any other college. I signed a form at Brown Mackie acknowleging that I knew that it's up to the receving college to accept my credits that I wanted to transfer. It's also stated that in the school's catalog. Maybe the problem is with you and not Brown Mackie.

Brown Mackie College Predatory School

The Tucson, Arizona location had a Police complaint filed against Terry, the Financial Administrator, for allegedly assaulting a female student. It appears that after taking all of her money from Sallie Mae and then telling her she owed more money, the female student went to Terry to ask for an explanation. At this time Terry lost his head and threw his chair to the side, rushed forward and had the female student backed against the wall. He physically threatened her for making a complaint. The female student reported the incident to the Dean of Brown Mackie, Tucson, and was told that she was not assaulted. After calling the police the female was told that no one on staff saw Terry, the pathetic little man, threaten her in any way.
Do NOT SEND YOUR DAUGHTERS TO THIS SCHOOL UNLESS YOU WANT THEM TO FACE PHYSICAL INTIMIDATION AND THREATS!

Brown Mackie College Lies and Manipulation

I graduated Brown Mackie College with an "associates degree" in Paralegal Studies in October 2006. Made straight A's and B's the whole time I was there only to find out that the school is not "regionally accredited." They lied to me from the beginning by stating that my degree will transfer to either Barry University, St. Thomas University and/or Florida International University. I even had a professor, which he stated was an attorney, only to find out via FLA Bar Attorney Search that he IS NOT an attorney. What's even crazier is that I had a very bad medical emergency and was not able to pay sallie mae for about six months and they contacted my employer because they were going to garnish my checks! Honestly, is this place worth all this hassel. One thing I hate is being lied to. I owe $25k in student loans and for NO REASON! I feel like a loser because I let a bunch of people use me to pay for their rent! I am willing to contact an attorney but would like to see how many people are willing to do this with me. FYI...I GRADUATED from Brown Mackie College with "honors"

This is such a sad situation for those already attending BMC or finished like me. The only reason I learned is because I taught myself, the instructors didn't do nothing to teach me. It's ridiciulous and unfair. I will be contacting an attorney. Even the instructors are treated bad there and unfair. I have an amazing friendship with an instructor and his health was bad yet BMC was so evil in the way they treated this instructor. We need to voice our complaints and stop BMC from robbing innocent people who just want a future for their kids. Im a single mom and my first meeting was the best the way they put it but after a year being there I realized through other students and by seeing it with my own eyes that BMC only care about the money and that's unfair for the time we single parents invest and sacrifice leaving our kids at home alone while we're being fooled by this school wasting our time and our money and if we don't go we get charged either way and have to retake the class over and over again which is more and more money. When will this end?

Brown Mackie College Watch out

This “so called school” wow! Really..how does our Government allow this type of business to function.? Talk about organized criminals and schemes to give people trying to do good things in their lives false hope and a mouthful of lies while they collect their profit. I should have listened to all the complaints but instead I trusted Brown Mackie College and completed my program only to find out I cannot even sit for my required National Exam that is required in order to do the job. This should so be against the law..Last time I checked most people going to college are going so they can get a legitimate education, diploma, and sit for exams that are REQUIRED in order to do the job. This school leaves a sick feeling in my stomach. Their lack of academic integrity and many consumer violations and forms of fraud they commit and get away with are a devastating reality and true fact. My personal experience along with 42+ students in my program that are left with a huge tuition bill and no validity in our education, our dedication to a sham, makes me wonder how they can continue to receive Federal Grant money? I know that several legal actions are in progress but it is held under the radar because the school has each student sign an “Arbitration Agreement” so any case that comes out cannot be public, unless a Judge allows the case to go to public court.. However, there are several cases in appeal to see if a Judge will allow these cases to go to a Public Court and be heard. THIS IS ALL FACT, I PROMISE THAT. BE ADVISED..I WOULD NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL-PERIOD. There are so many other educational options..do not take the chance. You will hear many great things from the staff as they reel you in, just like a slimy car salesman. TERRIBLE! Seriously, this is honest and true advice from people who successfully completed programs at this school and have current legal ramifications in progress.

Brown Mackie College Disorganized Organization

As an adjunct faculty member who was told my services were no longer needed, I can tell you that this thing is nothing but a scam. It is filled with illiterate, non college material beings who expect those in authority to cater to their every excuse possible, such as incarceration (as an excuse for being absent), I don't have a computer at home ( although they sign a user agreement at the beginning of each class), signing the role book and then leaving after 15 minutes. Don't get me started! Showing up for a final exam an hour and a half late, with a smile on your sorry #$$ face? In a "real" college environment, that would not happen. I was canned because of two reasons: a student of mine was pissed because I required them to spend at least 3 hrs. on line during the blended day, yet she was best buddies with the department chair. The other reason was I gave one student two opportunities to make up a midterm. She failed to show up for both scheduled events, which we both agreed upon, but she chose not to show up. Because she showed up on the day of the final exam for another class, and all the students were done, and I had already left the building to go home and grade papers (I have no office there, heaven forbid...), I was told by the Dean that I was in violation. WTF? Even if I was there, I did not have the midterm ready for her, I had thrown it in the trash. Two times, I was available, and twice this idiot decided not to show up and never gave a reason. But because she came looking for me and I wasn't in my classroom (what was I supposed to do after the final was over? Play solitaire for an hour?), she went to the Dean. She demanded I administer the midterm. I refused, letting my lead chairperson have that honor. Look, I am an esteemed educator. I am not bowing down to the folks that make no effort. That is what Brown Mackie is all about! Making excuses, trying to educate those not even holding a high school diploma, yet they can go to college? There are many fine students that I have taught. I just wish I could have taken them all, shown them how to get scholarships and apply to a REAL college. Brown Mackie is nothing but a money machine. I am a professional educator, and the whole time I taught there, I was very anxious, nervous, and it just didn't feel right. I teach at two other widely aclaimed univeristies, and I am so proud to be an instructor. Future adjuncts, future studens, BEWARE! This place SUCKS

This guy is completely correct. I urge you to NOT go to this college. I will graduate in two weeks. I know no more today then I did two years ago when I started.
The instructor for my core class..Bio Medical Equipment Instrumentation... was a complete and total flake. He (KIRK McDANIEL) even admitted he was a flake and acknowledged that we got screwed by having him as an instructor. He said we would have been better off if we were in the night class with the other instructor. I cannot tell you anything about Bio Med Technology, but can tell you how much he hated his job with Jabil, how much he hated Johnson & Johnson, the differences between a 71 and 72 Ford Mustang and how to put a stereo in a Toyota Supra.
But to his credit...he can draw. He just loves to draw and doodle on the whiteboard.
Please Please Please...Do Not Attend this "college". PLEASE!

Brown Mackie College Takes but doesn't give

I too was taken by BMC many years ago in Overland Park, KS. I worked in the investigative field, and thought I had researched them...boy, was I wrong! I enrolled in the now long defunct court reporting program. You were supposed to be up to 45 wpm to go to the first speed class..none of us attained that, and it just snowballed from there. As it turns out, only 2 students in the entire time they had the program actually ever did get a decent job when they somehow managed to graduate. I switched to the paralegal program when I was tired of being lied to by the CR instructors..another mistake! I had started the paralegal program at a local junior college, plus had worked for attorneys so I had an idea of what I should be learning..wrong again! They actually had the family law class briefing the movie Kramer V.Kramer, not the case the movie was based on, but the movie. Kind of impossible to do..how do you get the citations?

I took legal computers WestLaw, etc. independent study and got an A...only problem was, the teacher never showed up to work with me like he was supposed to..I would show up and sign in..that was how I got the A. when I finally tracked the instructor down, I challenged him about it and he replied, "That is why I have paralegals..to do this stuff for me, I don't have a clue about it." It just goes on and on..I was told that I had graduated, but never did get my certification and/or diploma. I found out later that the CR program was dropped because "it is so very difficult for anyone to graduate from it". They used the enticement in the 80's that if you didn't find a job within your field after a certain time after you graduated your tuition would be free..they just "forgot" to mention the fine print during the in-take interviews...you had to go on any interview they found for you, any where in literally the world at your own expense, of course, or the deal was void. They had absolutely the worst teachers on the face of the earth for the most part..there were a couple who were excellent, and i never could figure out why they stuck it out there...others would leave as soon as they saw what was going on there. We were actually threatened by a Mr. Tally, who was owner/president at the time of at least the Salina and OP campuses. When we had all gotten sick of the being lied to, etc., he called us all together and informed us that his attorneys were better than any we could possible retain and we would go down if we even tried to file suit. In both the CR and para programs they flat-out lied about starting salaries. They changed academic deans at the OP campus almost as often as some people change their clothes..literally sometimes up to 3 per semester..their recruiters and placement counselors were total liars.

The statue of limitations is, of course, long past for me, and I am now in my late 50's and will be paying back the student loans probably until the day I die. I don't even mention BMC on any forms..I literally had people laugh in my face when I mentioned I had attended BMC!

What I find especially scarey is that they are now offering medical training?!?! I would be checking on my nurses, etc. to see where they went to school!

If anyone knows of anyway to get their money back from this so-called institution of higher learning, please share with the rest of us.

And BTW, as mentioned, I did do my research, unfortunately back then we didn't have the internet to check things out..you had to physically go to the court house to check out any complaints. Also, I wasn't a young kid at the time, I was in my early 30's, and was working full-time as well as trying to go to school full-time. The staff was horrid..I had an issue where my husband had left me without a vehicle..BMC had promised to all of their students that they would take any steps necessary for continuing to get to school. The dean at the time told me to take a cab...let's see, I lived 25 miles away, and was making minimum wage, had class 4 days a week, hmm, that would have put me in the hole to the tune of lord only knows how much every week. A little poetic justice here, though, I heard that he ended up selling men's suits at JC Penny after he left BMC!

Brown Mackie College Worthless School

I have been in touch with a lawyer and he says that I have a good case. I know there are several others interested in a class action lawsuit. I really think we can pull this together. Please feel free to contact me at [protected]@yahoo.com. Please read my complaint listed under brizi37. I attended the Brown Mackie Campus in Cincinnati.

Brown Mackie College Paying too much for an Education I didn't get

I went to BrownMackie in Louisville, Ky. I was 3 months from Graduating and got Kicked out because of a High risk to the Clinical site. I was in the LPN program. We I did my exit interview I agreed to pay $30 a month. I was Charged around $5, 000 dollars. Within two months they had a collection agency calling me about the money. They call every day. My balance has not gone down and I think because I was kicked out I should not have to pay this money. I agree I think the amount per month was $435. This school is the biggest ripe off. If I am not in school I should not have to pay for this. I have copies of my receipts where the checks were cashed.
