Scam as a result of replying to an advertisement on saw on my Yahoo homepage
Complaint Rating:
Company information: Blazing Words United States
It started because I responded to an online advertisement (one I'd seen on my Yahoo! homepage) offering a work-at-home opportunity with Google. I read through the info. and decided to pay the $1.97 shipping cost to receive the full info. packet. That was on Sunday, May 31, 2009. The $1.97 was debited from my account the next day. On Thursday, June 4, 2009 I received a phone call allegedly from this company asking me to verify my order and account information. This call came in at approximately 8:50 P.M. The man on the phone spoke quickly but did not have an accent that I could not understand. He asked me to verify the last 4 digits of the account I had used to make this purchase. I thought this sounded fishy, so I gave him 4 made-up numbers. He said those were not the same 4 numbers on file. It was because of this statement that I thought he was legit. I gave him the correct digits. He asked for the 3 digit security code on the back of my card and I gave him that also. He proceeded to rattle off a list of special services I was entitled to-- for special discount rates. I declined them all. During the course of his info. speal he quickly read off a customer service number that I could call if I had any questions. He also said I would be receiving that same number in an email, so I didn't write it down. My hands were soapy and wet and I didn't want to take the time to dry them off and find a pen and paper. Finally, he asked me if I was interested in the company's free financial planning service. He offered to connect me to a financial planning specialist who could help me determine what my goals for my new at-home career should be. I told him I couldn't stay on the phone because I had kids in the bathtub and needed to get back with them. He said that was no problem and said that a financial counselor would call me tomorrow evening. I have yet to receive this follow-up phone call. He also told me before I hung up that my info. packet should arrive in between 7 and 10 days. I have received nothing yet. On Thursday, June 11, 2009 I checked my bank account on-line and found that a charge for $72.21 had been made to my account from "Blazingwords". I called the bank and asked them if they had any other information on the company who had requested this charge because I did not recognize it as a charge I had made. They did not. My bank is currently working with me to recover my money. As an aside to this, I haven't seen the ad posted on my Yahoo! webpage all week.
