We have been customers using the Bill Me Later plan for a few years now. Our bill has always been paid in a timely and regular manner. I recently went on-line to purchase the Nutrisystem plan and was denied. I called Bill Me Later to ask why I was denied and explained that we have always been on time and paid more than the minimum. The response was, " Bill Me Later has the right to decide what they will / will not approve." I then asked her what our spending limit was and she replied, " Ma'am, we don't have credit limits, it is based on your spending patterns." That is the craziest thing that I have ever heard. I then asked her to take a look at our credit report and payment history. Her response to that was, " I'm sorry ma'am, we cannot do that. Bill Me Later decides what they will or will not allow." Sounds like CIT Bank / Bill Me Later has a nice little racket going here. They can pick and choose whatever they want to approve with no restrictions or guidelines to have to follow. Nice way to slip through the cracks. Oh, and I asked her if we paid off the balance, would they approve the charge and she said, " No ma'am." That just doesn't sound even remotely legitimate. They are definitely not a professional bank organization and have poor customer service. I will never use their services again in the future.

I have excellent credit and have never been turned down for anything before and was turned down by Bill Me Later - I have not received the "reasons" yet, but will post an update when I do. Please do NOT ever apply for or use Bill me Later as they are obviously incompetent.

I have had an account with Bill Me Later for 3 years now. I haven't had a problem so far. I hope that the CIT is not a part of Citi Bank. They are ruining things for everyone. Power driven control freaks.

Yeah, I've been a Bill Me Later customer for about 2 years, having made many purchases with them. Never have I been late and I don't have one blemish on my credit report. I got turned down for a Preferred Account with Newegg. I've purchased thousands of dollars worth of merchandise through Newegg over the years. Newegg says they have no control of who gets approved or denied. I've called and emailed Bill Me Later/CIT Bank and all I get is the runaround. What a sorry excuse for a company.

I do not know who reviews the credit apps for this bank but supervisors need to take a good look at things. I just applied for a JTV credit card through this company and got turned down. I already have a Fingerhut and a Dell account opened with this company and now they are turning me down. Both accounts have been paid off and I paid them off early and was never late with a payment. I do not understand the system that you use to approve people. I know that the economy is bad at the moment but I would think that companies would want to keep their good customers and their business by approving them. Without credit approval to your good customers your business will go under real fast. I understand turning down people but why would you turn down someone like me that has already proven themselves with two other of your credit card. If this is the way you do business I will not recommend any of my friends to buy from Fingerhut or Dell. sgswv

I just happened across this complaint forum while doing some searching for information on CIT. I too applied for a Bill Me Later deal back in January and was declined. They have been in trouble since 2007 because they too were involved in the subprime mortgage mess. They have managed to avoid bankruptcy for the time being but who know what will happen in the next few months. If you were declined after having a history with them its because they probably aren't lending to anyone regardless. Very few of those people you get to talk to on the phone actually know why you get turned down or not and the ones that do aren't allowed to tell you anyway. Good credit is not worth what it use to be right now because financial firms are not operating normally so most people are getting turned down just because the banks are losing their ### due to defaults and do not want to take any risks period. Just wanted to let those with complaints about being turned down know your credit history means almost nothing to companies on the verge of bankruptcy.

I've used the Newegg Preferred account and Bill Me Later (both handled by CIT) for more than five years, now, with absolutely no problems. I misunderstood one promotion and made a late payment, and they refunded the late fee when requested. I've used Bill Me Later for airline travel and other purchases, again with no problems at all. Very satisfied. I can't say what went wrong for these couple of people, but I also don't see anyone really researching the problems. You can get a bad cust. serv. rep., but then you should ask for a supervisor if you don't get your questions answered. I don't see that having happened with the first complaint.

As for CIT not getting paid if you pay off your balance with no interest - all credit companies get paid by the companies they process the sales for. If you think they don't make any money if you don't pay interest, you are mistaken. If you do pay interest, the bank is collecting from the seller and the buyer, both.

You apply with Bill Me Later on a site that accepts them for payment, during the checkout process. You will get an answer as to rejection or acceptance before completing the transaction.

Do they deny you on the spot if they don't think that you have good enough credit?

I too was denied credit from Dell when I wanted to purchase a new computer under their no interest for 6 months deal. Dell told me that I would have to wait until my notice of credit denial letter came in order to find out the problem.
At frist I thought that I was denied credit because of the company checking, named Experian from Allen TX. I went on line to view my credit report & it was just just fine. It was then that I noticed the CIT bank logo at the top of the letter.
The reasons why I was denied credit, I'm sure was because of them. The two reasons listed were:
Insufficient credit experience
Insufficient balance activity within the last 12 months across open revolving trades opened at least 6 months

I am 62 years old, have bought 3 homes in my lifetime, more cars than I can remember, not to mention home appliances, etc. Does this sound like a person that has insufficient credit experience?

I have no earthly idea what the hell the second reason means, except that I don't use all of my credit cards every month, and the ones that I do use, I pay them off at the end of the month. As a matter of fact, I get credit cards in the mail that I cut up because I didn't request them! Shame on CIT! I hope they go belly up! RRW

CIT/Bill Me Later who runs this madhouse? I applied for Newegg account and got denied because of "derogatory" items on my credit report. I knew I had nothing like that but double checked my reports again and sure thing there is nothing derogatory, just all payments made on time. I called CIT bank in Utah and only person that answers the phone has no clue, she said: "I don't know, our system makes decisions automatically...I dont know what to tell you..." apparently there is nobody else to actually check my credit report...In other words, CIT sucks big time, I will make sure not to apply for anything offered by this bank.

Do not post your SSN and sensitive information floating around the net. The whole world can see that. What was that first guy thinking? You must be nuts. E-Mail CIT people, Heather Fields or something!.

I'm only researching Bill Me Later and what's going on's. Kinda funny if they dont approve you when you're truly a "credible person". (i-e: Debra Beach).

That should keep anyone thinking if they wanna give that a try, whether be it for the fun of it or really need some extra time to pay up. Hope to hear rebuttals from CIT on their approval system. Non-clarity is bad business.

I think, CIT is betting on certain people who may not pay on time and they could make some interest money off them. People who pay up on time do not give CIT a dime, so why bother? That's no business. Do you get the logic if you turn the tables? That's just my opinion.

When I look at my true credit reports, I see an alert credit notice from CIT Bank/BILL ME LATER in Timoivium, MD. What is this and why do they keep doing this? I have a lock on all 3 credit bureaus.
