Bench Craft Company no bench sign/no refund

In May of 2008, I received an unsolicited phone call from Mark Hogan offering a bench sign promotion at Rancho Carribe Golf Course located on the Bolivar Peninsula beaches of Texas Gulf Coast. I paid $385.00 for a bench sign to be placed at one of the 9-hole sites and was promised my company would be the only one of it's type to be displayed on the course and would be delivered in the fall of 08.

Prior to the "fall" of 08, we had Hurricane Ike which devastated our peninsula and Galveston Island. We literally had neighbor's lose everything, some included their lives. The golf course was tore up and still does not exist today, eight months later. Like most of my neighbors, my home in Galveston was destroyed, but my office in Port Bolivar, located on the farthest west end, was only slightly damaged. This is where I live today...in my office. I contacted Bench Craft Company about getting a refund, but only received a voice message from Mark Hogan that the benches were still coming to the golf course. I again called and had to leave a message that there was no golf course any longer and would like a refund since the benches weren't even made and it was into February, 2009, six months past delivery.

Mark Hogan again returned my call and left a message stating he was calling in reference to my call about relocating my bench sign. Is this man for real. There is no place to relocate the sign. There is nothing left here. We just got telephone service back in April. How we take the conveniences in our lives for granted. That bench is the lowest of priorities to anyone who participated in this scam. Refunds! Refunds are what we are asking. There is no golf course to place them on. They are way past due. And now, Mark Hogan won't even take calls or return left messages.

Where is this state's attorney general? Why is he still allowed to scam people? Doesn't this fall under some type of fraud? HELLO LAWMAKERS. Why aren't you protecting WE THE PEOPLE? $385 doesn't seem like much money, but when you are starting over, it feels like a million.

I don't see how Bench craft could be responsible for the loss. They were paid to make a sign, and they did so.

Bench Craft Company fraudsters and cheaters

My story is similar to many. I was sold a diamond necklace with fake diamonds. In other words I believed what the salesman was telling me about a gorgeous 18 hole golf course with 10 tournaments a year plus numerous corporate sponsored events. My advertisement would be seen by thousands of people each year and over 30, 000 new cards are being printed this year alone. All they need is a credit card, 50% down and an email telling them 'good to go.' Because apparently 'Good to Go is now my name.' I am not sure when signatures stopped being so personal. And they will tell me that I owe them money because this constitutes a binding contract.

Worse still, I spoke with the manager who told me that I was a liar. He not only argued with me, he tried to force a fight. He was waiting for me to threaten him. I only told his employee that he was being hunted and yes I mean it. I have now informed all the right people of the situation and will approach the client this company is representing.

Now I forgot to tell you that the golf course I am actually giving my money too has only 9 holes and is more of a locals hang out. Nobody there is going to look at my name or the advertising. They just want to get a few rounds of golf played and move on. This is the affordable golf course as opposed to the luxurious golf course down the way where the rich and glamorous tee off.

Am I mad? Yes, because they think I will just disappear. Not this time. I want my money back.

DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH BENCH CRAFT COMPANY... EVER.

I hope this warns others before they make the costly mistake you and I have both made. I wont share the details of my encounter, but I am not surprised by this story and do hope other take the warning seriously.

All the posts are responded referring to the complaint as being a disgruntled employee. I am not am employee and these types of complaints are on so many review boards.

Honestly - like I said before. They called me, I bought ad space and within 30 days, my ad was up and I have had customers tell me that they saw our ad at the golf course!

We all buy stuff and check into that purchase before
A)We buy it.
B) Give authorization to buy it.
Question when you buy a home do you look at it before you spend money or authirize to buy it. Think about what you do before you do it. Just my own opinion because ive been ripped off by my mortgage company before. Nothing i could do.

Bench Craft Company - i'm an employee who is resigning is about an hour - and i'm willing to co-operate with law enforcement

SCAM- WIRE FRAUD- I wish I would've checked them out before I went to work for them 2 weeks ago. I have resigned from benchcraft. I can no longer turn a blind eye to their systematic pattern of deception. I apologize for soliciting people even though I was already pretty suspicious. If it makes anyone feel any better, I sold a scorecard ad to my own...

Bench Craft Company mis-representation of goods and services

I was solicited by phone by Bench Craft Company to purchase advertising space on a tee marker at a local golf course and the advertising was to be in place for a period of 24 months. A day later the "sales manager" of Bench Craft Company called me and told me he could offer me the same deal at two other nearby golf courses. I accepted his offer and my credit card was charged for 3 separate "contracts" a total of $1125.00. A few days later when I received the "contracts" there were discrepancies as to where the advertising was going to be placed. Instead of a tee marker for 24 months the 2 other ads would now be placed on a bench and on a ball washer and for a period of 12 months each. I phoned to complain. And I felt the products and services had been mis-represented to me and simply wanted Bench Craft Company to fulfill their agreement to me and give me what they had offered me. After being passed from one department to the other in the end no one would take responsibility for the offer and when I said that in that case I would like the credit card charges to be refunded they said the "contract" was "non-cancellable" then they also sent me a letter informing me about the legal ramifications if I attempted to somehow get my money back. I have already contacted my credit card company and will dispute 2 of the 3 "contracts". The attitude of this company is terrible and they are rip off artists of the first degree. Buyer Beware!

I received a phone call today on my business line from "UNAVAILABLE." I do not answer calls of this nature so I silenced the ringer and waited. The caller hung up on my voicemail, then immediately called back. That alone was weird. The second time, they left a voicemail message. The caller did not identify himself nor the company he was representing. He stated he was calling "on behalf of" a local golf course, the name of which he mispronounced horribly! Thank goodness he did, because it was a huge red flag to me. He left the number [protected] as a callback number. I researched the number and found all sorts of negative information and horror stories. Of course I did not return the call. Beware these people!

I agree I dealt with them and received a call today after I sent an email saying I was contesting the charge. When I mentioned [redacted].com they said oh there going out of business because of defamation of businesses.. They question you of being a man of your word, Yet the BBB of Portland has 132 compliants and D Rated.

I tried to call back Bench Craft within 1 1/2-2 hours of the order to cancel the order they gave me the run around and couldn't answer me as to how to cancel. I then called again same day an hour later to see if they had done anything to reverse the charge they gave me the run around again. They figure you'll just go away and they got your money.

The man in Portland said in advertising in media your stuck as soon as you give a credit card. Even though they haven't had time to have your order go to the printer yet. There is no product even in the works... Lies and psycobable... They try to make you think your stupid... Typical business technic of shady business people.

Bench Craft Company horrible company in every way!

Charley Cobb, the guy who inherited this company is a horrible person. He has been involved in Coupon Book Scams in the past! He refers to women as "Split Bottoms", he also calls them "slugs" because of the slim trail he says they leave while dragging their bottoms around the office. He refers to his male employees as "Slaps" and "Boy". He is proud that he has NEVER hired a Black Person, Proud he went to a high school where no "black person" ever graduated. He uses a slightly worse name for Black People also but I won't repeat it here. He constantly refers to any clerical work as "Women's Work" as if it is all menial work and beneath him. He promotes illegal and terribly unethical business practices, credit card fraud, identity theft, selling ad space to unsuspecting customers that won't be actually displayed for years when the customer assumes that the ad will go into affect immediately. Review their contracts, there never is any reference to any date when an ad will start or end. Buyer beware of these crooks! Once a customer gives them a credit card number, look out, you will be charged for unauthorized ads on other courses, renewals etc. even if you totally tell them "NO". 200+ Better Business Bureau reports against them in the last couple of years alone tells you all you need to know. Oh, they also have no use for the National Do Not Call List. They think that is funny and totally ignore it, they don't even know where to find it let alone pay any attention to it. Golf courses please beware and if you wish to have the services offered by Bench Craft, please find a different company that doesn't have this kind of baggage. There are some good ones out there that you can check on if you wish.

I know all of this because I worked there for many years when the original owners were in charge, Charley Cobb got lucky when the last original owner died in a house fire and he some how inherited the operation and without the ethical guidance of the original two owners, his greedy and crooked attitude has ruined a great company.

Bench Craft Company criminal activity!

Charley Cobb who inherited Bench Craft after the real owner died in a house fire has been implicated in a Coupon Book Scam, refers to women as "Split Bottoms", is proud of "NEVER" hiring a black person, only he doesn't refer to them as "Black People", enjoys selling ads to unsuspecting customers years before they will ever be actually posted, refers to secretarial work as "women's work", promotes credit card fraud and very aggressive telephone solicitations, allows all kinds of unethical activities in the operations of Bench Craft Company ad sales. Please check him out and the company out before you consider doing business with this company!

Bench Craft also has plenty of women that are in management that make over 100, 000 a year. And they are not secretaries. Maybe you should check your sources. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones!

I have to disagree with the comment about not hiring blacks I interviewed with Bench craft and the gentleman who conducted the interview was black, and he is also in there color brochere.
The other stuff about them might be true, but as far as the black people comment he has at least one in management.

Bench Craft Company Awful company, masters of scams!

Bench Craft Company victimizes customers and takes unethical and fraudulent sales practices to a new low. February 2007, a friend of mine was solicited via the telephone for the purchase of advertising space on a course scorecard. My friend opted to participate in the advertising offer, which was to begin May 2007.

In May, the advertising did not appear in the scorecard. The Bench Craft Company sales manager, Mark Hogan, said that the ad would be present in the following month (June).

In June, again the ad was not present. Mr. Hogan again said that the scorecard ad would arrive in July. Again, in July the scorecards arrived, however, the paid ad was not present. Again, Mark Hogan said that by August 2007, the ad would be printed into the scorecards. The advertisement was not printed in August a full 3 months later than promised.

A request for a refund, since the valuable summer golfing opportunity had passed, was refused. In September, my friend's credit card company entered Bench Craft Company in arbitration. Bench Craft Company lost. Instead of either printing the ad or refunding the amount, an additional $400 was billed on top of the $350 for the ad.

Bench Craft Company claims that a refund is against their policy as stated in their contract. My friend responded to Bench Craft Company that a contract was never provided. Bench Craft Company denied this and provided my friend with a contract with someone else's name on it.

This story gets worse. September, October, November, December 2007 passed with no ad. Every month Bench Craft Company refusing to either print the ad or provide a refund.

It is now March 3, 2008, a full year later. Instead refunding a customer, they sent the cost of the ad plus the additional cost of the arbitration they lost to collection with the aim to ruin a customer's credit.

I noticed Bench Craft Company has quite a long list of complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau. I can see why. The company supports questionable sales tactics, does not deliver on their services as promised, is dishonest about the agreement a customer enters into and attempts to cause harm. How do they live with themselves?

Lied to us about putting up an ad at a golf tee for $400. Company is a scam. Paid nearly $400 last August for signs that were supposed to be up by November. Bench Craft never put up the signs and charged us anyway.

They eventually got the scorecards into the course, about a month late, but the location of the ad was NOT where I was told it would be. It was on a flap to be folded back for use. I was shown a sample where it was at the bottom of the scorecard to be seen throughout use.

It’s a boiler room . After 4 days I was let go . Proper training hah ! I was put in a desk from a very loud project manager most of the time I couldn’t even hear the customers I was calling over the phone . The phone I had also crackled so it was difficult , plus the radio he played music next to his desk did not help and then him laughing at his own f ups . I finally got into a flow with no little help after 4 days and I had people lined up for the next day and …. Gone! To be honest it was my first cold calling job! BUT I SPENT TWO DAYS CALLING PEOPLE WHEN THEY HAD 2 reps from different offices calling the same area / the names of those two golf clubs … mount dora country club … and wait for it Mount Dora golf club F N REALLY?

SET UP TO FAIL ! So many times people said I already talked to you .. or stop calling me …take me off the list

OR YOU GUYS RIPPED ME OFF

ALREADY ONCE

I know I could of done this job . Honestly not till my last day on a Thursday did I finally get into a flow

Maybe that’s on me —- but I still think I could of done it . I was already was so broke I hadn’t eaten in 3 days and finally Thursday I was feeling more confident . It’s too bad I think I could of kicked [censored] .

I wish I had done my research properly before opting to go with them.

Not only did we get a carbon copy experience as to other frustrated users on here, such as trying to add 'extra' charges on there or claiming we never paid but once they have your money - absolute silence. You never actually get a product from this company - we paid for 2x golf course ads and have tried multiple attempts to get in touch for art work and to ask when this is being implemented...crickets...absolutely nothing. we paid back in March 2021 and now July and have called, texted, emailed, everything I can possibly try.

Its a scam company as far as I can tell, they look like a proper media company on the outside but I don't think they actually ever what they say. After reading all the bad reviews, we experienced almost identical service its obviously a scam that works for them. I just dont understand how taking clients money and not giving anything in return is not just theft, how are they still allowed to operate?

I am putting this down to a really bad judgement call on my behalf.

I had a very similar experience with this company. They photoshopped me approving one of their contracts to convince my bank that I owed them money. I went back to Travis, my rep with Bench Craft, with the obvious evidence that the document had been photoshopped and threatened court. He immediately agreed to a refund. FYI, before this on a call he was swearing at me and pressuring me to drop the issue and lose my money. Just don't give in to the pressure and keep pushing and you should get back whatever you lose.

Same issue here with someone named Jesse. Photoshopped an email saying my client approved a 1400 dollar charge for cards at multiple golf courses, one of which was permanently closed. I am their IT provider and I know every email that comes and goes out of our system, and this email was never sent form our email server. Complete and utter bull----. They need to be thrown in jail.

Dishonest business practices! After almost a year, I still cannot verify my ad at the golf course. They pressure you for a 'deal' because they say that it must go to production only to call you three weeks later with another 'deal'. They do not honor the 'deal' that they call with, so don't do it! They try to trick you by having you quickly text approvals to them. It's really terrible. And when I called them for assistance, Mr. Sanders told me that he hadn't had but two sips of his coffee yet and he wasn't ready to deal with my issues until his finished his coffee. They are scammers and bullies. Stay clear of this company!

I called the golf course which they said the ad was for, and the golf course had nothing to do with them and had never heard of them! Benchcraft found their name online and used them as a way to sound legitimate. The lady making the scam call sounded all happy, talking about the weather, the baby in the background, what a great business I have, etc. I do not understand how people like them sleep at night...what an awful way to make a living! COMPLETE SCAM COMPANY!
