Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Unethical charges

One morning I had noticed that the deposit I made at BBT did not appear on my online statement...but the 2nd day hold that they put on the check was there resulting in my avaialble balance being negative! I called the BBT 800 number and told them I thought something was wrong, but the teller was talking the company line about holds, etc... and wasn't even listening to me telling her that I understand the hold, but that the deposit wasn't yet showing on the account as it should be because it was made in the morning the day before. So I called back to get another operator and got the same story. Then I called the branch directly and told them about the problem, they immediately recognized something was wrong and got my contact information to call me back with a resolution. About an hour later I got a call back from a BBT rep saying they are very sorry for the trouble and that the problem was the bank teller that took the deposit did not get her "work" put in that day. They made the money avaialable, etc...

The very next day I check my account and there is a Phone24 charge on my account for $2.00! This charge is for calling their 800 twice per month apparently. what a joke! Going in there today to get that money refunded and then close the account. Too many issues with BBT. They suck!

I too was with bbt. I found so many wierd charges on my acct. I am an honest human being and still didnt get the excuse from the teller i was looking for. I actually thought that someone was using my bbt debit card...i did walk away supposedly owing them money...but like i said ...they charged me so much for what? i couldn't believe it

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Lying over the phone and not returning any call.

My name is Homan Hazrati. I have been calling BBT bank in Springfield, VA in Manchesterlake for the past year regarding different issues. Each time they are telling me that everybody in the bank is busy to talk to me. I have been leaving my name and phone number but nobody never called me. When I called today 03/12/09, again they told me that everybody in the bank is busy. When I asked to talk to the bank manager, they told me that she is in the meeting until 5 PM. I don't know what kind of meeting is that which started at 8AM and is going to finish at 5PM. Anyways, this is what I hear each time I call this bank. I am writing this complain so somebody would pay attention about the performance of this bank which is way below average. Nobody can tell me that this is part of the bank policy.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) To many credit cards

Dear board I am disable due to a bad leg, I am a christan woman and like every body. I went to the bank to consatdate a few bills and they did and gave me a vista card with a 5000 dollar limit. Weeks later I received a letter telling me they had pay my bills twice. And it was up to me to get the money back. They said that I had call and said to tranattion which I didnot even know what that ment. I call my crediters and got the money and gave to the bank. I call the bank manger but he would not return my call. Come to find out there was three cards in my name. I only reply for one. Dont they ask for your ss number. One card came back to the bank. They said they did not where the second came from. And bless patty they send me a fourth card. I am at the end of my road. If I could move my account I would. Now they hate to see me come in the bank I am not responable for they mistake. I wish I had somebody to tell my what to do. Thank you

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) No reason for overdraft

BB&T! Add me to the list. I have received over a $1, 000.00 in fees within the span of a few days. I have a spreadsheet showing that I never should have received an overdraft fee and was never overdrawn. Their fee caused the overdraft. I was a business owner for thirty years and know how to balance a banking account. My overdraft fees are now over $1, 000.00. I am still being stonewalled by BB&T. I feel there is a deliberate an error in their computer programming they refuse to recognize.

I thought I was loosing my mind.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Credit/debit posting

BB&T are extremely unworththy of care for your banking needs. If you have ever had an NSF charge check the order of how they process their debits and credits. Did you know if you call BB&T 24 and you are told you have funds and your puchases are on ACH hold. guess what there not. If you make a purchase beleiving they have sent your funds in good faith to the ones you owe and you continue to do business 2 or maybe 3 days later and the last merchant send in their request for payment. Well the funds you believe was sent to the first sent of merchants have now been re-deposited to your account sent to the last transaction (because they got there merchant request in first) is paid and anyone who you have left based on the money in your account now just costed you a large amount of NSF fee! There for look ant your statements closely I had 115.00 in bank made 4 (50.00, 44.00, 11.00, and 10.00) separate purchases leaveing .61 cent in the all posting on 2/17 then a purchase (69.99) that was made online 2/18 this merchant sent in their request 2/19 BB&T this company then NSF all 4 of the transactions (yes, even the 10, 11) And by the way my direct deposist from work was showing on the automated system and was available at midnight 2/19 going into 2/20 with other transaction that are reoccurring on the 19th they also NSF them as well to a total of $290.00. When informed well the funds are there and you don't post till midnight why am I being charged and if your system tell me funds are there why did you not pay the 4 first and prompted told its not our policy we pay the largest first. I say ther purposely NSF people accounts for their own selfish gain. In my opinion this is theft and fraud

Experiencing problems with BB&T in which they are posting the debits before the credits during their nightly processing Batch cycle. It seems that this must be a recent change to their processing strategy for I am getting dinged with OD charges... but if you read your online statement, you can't conclude that is what they are doing for the credits are listed first then the debits which infurs to you that is balancing your account that is the order of processing.

Also had issues when a deposit was put on hold by another group when the 1st group waived the 2 day hold. It was a local check drawn on a major university... go figure... it's like a gov't check here. Apparently the 1st group didn't talk to the 2nd group to know that the 2 day hold was waived. Next day, I had ODs ... the branch CSR was a witch with little knowledge and assistance...saying I was negilent etc... The issue again with looking at your acct detail info online does not show what is really going on and is very misleading... if you follow it there is no negative balance. Another issue which was not addressed by the witch. Ended up going to another branch to get help and was sucessful. The online activity that they post is still misleading and no word if they deem that as a problem etc... BTY... 3 days later, received in the mail a bank notice that my deposit is on a 2 day hold...

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Overcharged

I have been a customer with BB&T and needless to say that this bank is very unprofessional with the way they conduct business, and with the way they treat their customers (Especially the customer service call center).

I have been slammed with outrageous NSF fees. The problem is that I had placed CASH in my account to cover charges that I had did on my credit card. I asked the teller if this was going to cover anything pending. He lied right to my face and told me yes. The very next day the money was gone and I had several NSF fees. This is not the first time that BB&T has done this. I admit I have made mistakes in the past regarding my account and took the blame when need. However the past two times this has happened was not my fault. I made sure there was money in my account to cover my ###. Appearantly cash is not good enough to BB&T until they make sure they can get their damn hands in my honey pot.

When I call into the customer service center of BB&T to try to handle this situation; I was basically told 'Oh well, perhaps you should conduct your business elsewhere' What kind of customer service is this? I am highly pissed and because I can't trust my money in BB&T hands, I have already switched bank accounts. I have been with other banks in the past and have never had issues like this. I highly recommend anyone who is a customer with BB&T seek other banking methods.

It is completely understandable that people, such as myself, make mistakes. I made a mistake by banking with BB&T. They lie, steal, and commit fraud. I have already begun making a report to the FDIC; and I will also be filing a report with BB&T Corporate headquarters. If someone would like to share with my their situation- please do. I feel that people should stand up for them selves regardless of how big a company is. This is what companies want- they think people will just blow hot air; but assume nobody will do anything about it. So these compnaies ( BB&T included) continue to get away with unprofessional behavior.

I wrote several checks around the first of January. It was quite a shock to me when I checked my online banking around the 18th or 19th of January to find that there was $590.00 worth of overdraft fees accessed to my account. These fees were accessed as follows: Overdraft fees in the amount of $210.00 to cover Checks in the amount of $97.00 which were paid by the bank; $30.00 unexplained overdraft fee; $350.00 in overdraft fees on checks in the amount of $214.01 returned to payees as not sufficient funds. Four (4) of the checks had been charged overdraft fees twice.

I had made a deposit of $337.50 on on the 5th of January because I knew I had to write these checks. The total amount of the checks was $311.01. I talked to the branch manager in Charlottesville about this and the impression I received from him was 'thats tough'.

In the past several months I have had a few instances of overdraft fees. At the time I did not pay any attention to them, but after this instance I have given BB&T a second look and am very disturbed by what I am seeing.

I have been a customer of BB&T since 1969 when my wife and I were first married and have remained a customer of BB&T through the many name and owner changes, that have occurred over the past many years. In 40 years I have never had a check returned to the payee for insufficient funds, until the last few months.

The one thing I did notice was that, problems with BB&T began after their new posting process began, and even had BB&T tell me that they could post things however they wanted to. It didn't matter in which order they were received. Also, I have checked my account many times by BB&T's phone 24 and received information about my account, and then checked my online banking within a few minutes and the online banking told me a completely different story.

After looking at complaintsboard I can see that I am not the only one complaining about this travesty of justice.

BB&T doesn't seem to realize that customers are what makes them strong and not the bank itself. If it weren't for the customers, BB&T wouldn't exist. This problem doesn't seem to end with just BB&T, but seems to be the attitude of most of the big banks. The small local banks have a completely different attitude about customer service, as did BB&T a few years ago.

The first of next week all of my business dealings with BB&T will cease to exist as I am closing all of my accounts with them.

yes these ### holes just charged me $395.00 in over draft fees and they waited tell me my money was gone so they could screw me out of $395.00 dollars and thier computer told me that my $500.00 check would post the next day so they made sure they posted all my debets first and all at once so they could get my whole check

BB & T pissed me off the most today. i go on my online banking and see that my account is in the negetive $120, WHICH IS OUTRAGES! i mean i can admit that i overdrew my account only $20.00 and got 3 OVERDRAFT FEES for one overdraft.

I calld the customer service center just like you did and this girl representive answered and i told her the problem, she contiuned with "well you should be more careful with your money and its not a bank error" I told her straight up that it was ###. how are you going to tell me to spend my money better for one. yeah i overdraft once everyone makes the mistake but they shouldnt charge me 3 times for it. and then she trys to tell me that im lieing to her that i made all these overdrafts when i have the bank recipets proving that i had the money in there and that the only thing i would have overdrafted on would be the one thing i had on hold which was only 20 dollars. SO INSTEAD OF paying $55.00 which i understand i would have to pay cuz thats what im at fault for...BUT NO i have to pay almost $65.00 more because of there greedy ###. AND OMG that girl on customer service was so rude and started to yell at me because she knew she was talking ### and i calld her ###ing bluff. BB&T IS ONE OF THE ### BANKS EVER and ive been with them since i was 9 years old and open my first bank account, AND BACK THEN THEY WERE COOL...BUT TODAY THERE ###ING LOW LIFE THIEVES...

I so agree with you! This is the worst bank I have ever had the misfortune to deal with! We moved here to VA from MI. BB&T doesn't do business there so I was unaware of their reputation. They were close so we tried them. I am very, very careful with my finances and no matter what I do I cannot have a complete billing cycle wihtout getting overdraft fees. Its the way that apply your deposits and debits that is the problem. They are crooks! They have this set up in a way that they can screw you every time. And you can forget about their customer service, its non-existent! They are very rude and not at all interested in helping you even when it is clearly THEIR fault. I really wish that a class action suit could be filed against them. I think its about people stood up and refuse to be screwed over anymore. BB&T gets a bailout everytime some poor, unsuspecting person walks in the door!

I am writing this letter to BB&T requesting pertinent information regarding my tentative modification. In the body of this letter there will be a summary of the contacts, content of them, subordinate’s in this forum, details discussed, and relative documents to any and all parties subject to control or information regarding Federal/Government TARP monies and conditions. It is my opinion that the summary of fee’s and charges should be disclosed much like a mortgage origination; whereby, a quasi-HUD statement be provided prior to any agreement being approved by “both” parties for their perusal, under the law. BB&T’s behavior in this regard and the pervasive, lack of concern attitude to its consumers and customers is emotionally draining and cumbersome, making positive outcomes near impossible and very time consuming.
It is my stated opinion BB&T is making a modification extremely difficult or maybe impossible due to the financial demands they have made on me to perform this modified mortgage, given their lack of timely and relative communication, and the pervasive attitude of BB&T and its subordinates, condemning the mortgagee, and changing all of the rules of conformity. I have filed a “formal complaint” with the FTC, as the date of this letter.
BB&T Credo: "John William’s extensive commercial knowledge and career accomplishment make him an excellent choice to succeed Dixon as president of our Blue Ridge Region, " Brown said. "As a longtime senior manager at BB&T, John has a keen understanding of what it means to deliver the BB&T brand of highly personal and competent client service."

My first communication about the arrearage was in November 2008. At that time I received an offer of modification which raised the payment over $300.00, which they said was “just an estimate and could be higher”. (See enclosure) I wrote a written response and asked for the payment to be lowered, maybe by lowering the interest rate or extending the time frame of the loan. Currently, I have a jumbo loan for $300, 000 and an adjustable ARM, interest only for five years @ 6.75%. I also questioned the validity of the appraised value @ $498, 000, given the current value being 50% less than the original appraised value.
I waited about 4-5 weeks before contacting BB&T to elicit their responses and I was told “you refused our modification offer”, so we are proceeding with the default and subsequent foreclosure. That was in early January 2009. This statement is completely untrue. (See enclosure) I have a letter, signed and dated with a receipt of mailing, proving this is incorrect. Since that time I have been getting forms for financial statements and letters saying we have tried to contact you and have gotten no response, “we are here to help” please fill out these forms and send them back to loss mitigation, SC and we will reply promptly. Since January 2009, I have sent the paperwork 5 times. Every time I sent one of the forms back I get the same form again and again. The last time I sent one of these forms and followed up with phone calls was in early March of 2009 and flat out refused to send them again, as they kept me chasing my tail.
By late-march I finally contacted a fellow named Adam Mills over the phone he offered me a modification, in which the payment seemed fair, so I tentatively agreed. The date to submit the papers and monies was April 06, 2009.
Prior to remitting the monies and final paperwork, it came to my attention that BB&T was asking for 2 months mortgage, which I thought was fair, but also wanted up front fees of $1425 for the attorney and $300 for an appraisal, plus late fees, interest etc… At that point I asked for a reasonable accounting of these monies.
I immediately called BB&T and left a message with this request for Adam Mills on April 05, 2009, he did not return my call. It is my opinion the call was not returned due to the resistance of BB&T to be honest about these fees. As the days went by, I left several messages and finally left a final angry message stating “I guess if I do not comply with your demands, you are going to continue the foreclosure. Why don’t I just bring you the keys and let me get my belongings out! The original message included these questions:
1. In the past, I have paid for full appraisals, which include an interior measure; upgrades, lot size, etc…cost $350.00. To my knowledge their, BB&T”s appraisal was only a drive by. Why is this fee so high?
2. As far as the attorney fees; I questioned my personal attorney and he stated “if all you have gotten to date was the registered letter”, it should have only cost $300.00; hence $1, 425.00?
3. Additionally, I have called HUD, the FDIC and the FTC and have been told there should be “no fees” of this kind upfront, and the amounts seem out of range as well as the payment structure set forth in the modification (1st payment 23 days after the $3, 000.)(See Enclosed).
I never heard back, so I called BB&T again and this time I spoke to Tiffany Whitmore. She relayed to me that I left a message agreeing to give up the keys and I no longer wanted a modification. Well, somehow the other messages either got deleted or were not relayed to Tiffany, which escalated the anger regarding the message about giving back the keys, etc…this was wearing me out! These things were said in frustration and emotional distress, as this has been going on since November 2008. And further, why can’t I ask/contest the fees, interest, the appraisal cost and the attorney’s fees?
After some dickering on the phone with Tiffany we were finally able to come to a conclusion. We agreed to a modification with a payment of $3, 000.00 on or before April 22, 2009 and 3 monthly payments of $1, 700, till July of 2009, totaling $8, 100.00. The $3, 000 was made on April 22, 2009, and then the next payment of $1, 700 is due on May 14, 2009, 23 days after the $3, 000.00 payment. I did the math on this and when I complete the modification contract BB&T has asked for (with some of the monies being put at the back of the note), with accruing interest and the additional attorney fees, I will have paid over $23, 000, to them by July 2009. Also, my flood insurance which was late due to this whole process taking so long and never knowing the outcome was not paid on time. I got a letter from BB&T placing the insurance, knowing full well I was in loss-mitigation, for the premium of $1, 235.00, a 410% inflated rate, as the original insurer’s premium was $309.00. Harley Insurance, the original insurer states “It is 99 ¾% unlikely in the location and district of this property there would ever be a flood”, and it is on 15 ft. of pilings.
In the conversation with Tiffany, she specifically advised me that there would be no further foreclosure advances by the attorney or BB&T if I agreed to the modification; verbally I did, on April 14, 2009. I received an email with the terms on April 15, 2009. She said she would make contact with the officer in loss mitigation and have the attorney contacted and hold off further work on the file, until the time period had elapsed by which I was to perform. The agreement was made April 14, 2009 and I had until April 22, 2009 to supply the paperwork and funds. Until that time expired had I not sign the modification or remitted the fees, all bets were off, and they would proceed to acquire a court date. Well, I performed; on April 21, 2009 a fax was sent to BB&T with the signed modification and on April 22, 2009 a payment of $3, 000 was taken over the phone by, DEE conf # 475647 @ 10:26 a.m. EST.
Can you believe, on Thursday April 22, 2009 I indeed did receive a court date, by certified mail! The attorney and BB&T went ahead after our agreement and filed the date and time of hearing, which is May 21, 2009. On April 22, 2009 I also received a letter from BB&T thanking me for my payment to “my account”. There was never any mention of the modification/new contract payment and it did not come from loss mitigation it was generated by the loan customer service office. When I realized the attorneys’ were still working on this and the monies may not have been put toward a modification, I immediately started calling BB&T for clarification. I left messages for Dee on 04/23/2009 and 04/24/ 2009; Tiffany 04/23/ 2009 and 04/24/2009; sent emails to gloria.smith@BBandT.com and spoke with Glen Milsap on 04/24/ 2009. No one has done anything to quell my distress and clarify the situation. I subsequently have spoken to my personal attorney, Jeremy Williams and contacted John Ceruzzi of Jacksonville, NC for advisement on how to proceed, alas I do not have the monies for this and the ongoing fees associated with their counsel and interest running at $54.20 per day. This lack of due diligence, timeliness, feedback and consideration is unconscionable.
Since the inception of my job/income loss and the tragic events that have besieged on me, I have done my level best to accommodate those I am indebted too. I have reduced my life style and spending to bare minimums, sold every worldly possession, (even thought everything I had was paid for) except my credits cards and mortgages, which I used for business. I have availed myself of counseling at GreenPath Debt solutions, as requested by HUD and its affiliates. I have remitted over 450 resumes and flyers to retain gainful employment. FYI: I hold an MBA, 2002, a BS in Marketing and a Paralegal Designation, in addition to 15-18 years of HR experience/Management and for 18+ years I made six (6) figures consistently. I “do not” expect this situation to continue and I do believe it is not my fault employment opportunities are not readily available.
At this point I need someone’s help. The reason all parties are being sent copies of this letter is because this situation is dire for many of this countries citizens. The banks are not “helping people”. They are helping themselves at the expense of consumers. Even though President Obama has flooded the banks with funds to alleviate this situation, the banks continue to make it next to impossible to get assistance in a timely, honest, and favorable manner. Foreclosure is a lose-lose situation for all and I wonder if they have and or are receiving TARP monies, saying they are suffering losses; why would they continue to exaggerate those losses by continuing practices that are unnecessary? A modification should allow the banks to recover any past due monies, and if done properly the bank should not suffer any loss on accounts receivables. Even if they did lose a small percentage of the monies, isn’t that what the taxpayer’s monies were for “to clean up the toxic assets”? I have to wonder, with all this foreclosure business…could these foreclosures be the “toxic assets” they speak of…all SELF CREATED and By DESIGN? There must be some reward for this behavior!

In closing, I request BB&T supply me:
• With an exact accounting of legal fees, before and after April 14, 2009, broken down to hours, minutes, and any subsequent associated court fees.
• Interest due
• Late fees or misc fees
• A copy of the full appraisal done

One Final question: Is anyone out there overseeing the way taxpayers monies are being used, and are there any rules imposed on the distribution of these TARP monies? Why should I pay all of these inflated fees when this modification has been requested since November 2008?

I noticed a $950 withdrawal from my daughter's savings account, made on the same day that we made a deposit for an almost identical amount. I thought it might have been an error in the cashing of bonds we had just completed, but it appears to be the sheer stupidity of the Wellington branch personnel in Manassas, VA. A teller apparently wrote down my daughter's account number on someone's else's withdrawal slip, then withdrew the money, not noticing the name on the account, or requiring a signature on the withdrawal slip, ( 3 mistakes so far). When I came in and asked to see an image of the withdrawal slip, the customer service rep was so inept that he literally could not distinguish between my checking and savings accounts. When we finally saw the image and saw that a grave mistake had been made, the branch manager sauntered over (he had been busy with his Blackberry) and told me that he couldn't do anything about it till Monday (it was a Friday) because the teller involved had her tapes under lock and key. They finally did restore the money, but their arrogance and indifference is appalling. This was college tuition money we needed and didn't have in time for the payment. Clearly, you need to check your accounts carefully because BB&T won't. And don't expect any level of customer service to resolve your problems.

Sounds like poor employees. Mistakes happen but this wasn't handled well. As with most banks, BB&T has really good branches, and really bad ones.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Overdraft rippoff fees

I am writing on behalf of my mother. She has been banking with BB&T for some time now. It was just recently that she noticed that she has started receiving all kinds of overdraft fees, incorrect deposit amounts, etc.. My mother is disabled and on fixed income as a result, so as you can imagine these overdraft charges seriously hurt her. I went to the bank with her to have some of these issues looked at and the mangers at the bank tried to speak to us like we were both complete idiots. They tried telling me that money she withdrew from the banks atm went into a "holding area" then after some other transactions came thru and brought her account to a low amount they put the money she had previously pulled out back into the account to finish proccessing, and that caused the overdraft. I have never heard of money being taken out of your account then put back in. On numerous occasions, two of which I was with her to make a deposit upon getting the slip back, or after arriving at home an checking h er balance she would notice the deposit showed up incorrectly, , a $30 deposit processed as $130, and a $200 went as $202..
She had 5 similar deposits on her account within a two month time period. Upon showing these to the managers at this bank they just smirked and stated, it was a clerical error and would fix itself in a day or so. HOw is it that a financial institution cant keep its own self straight yet quickly charges an overdraft to its customers when they dont. Good luck to anyone who banks with this bank.

I am a single female retiree in Central FL. In 2017 my loanwas with Florida First Federal, then it was sold to Colonial Bank, then unfortunately it was sold to BB&T. That is when my problems began. In early 2017 Wachovia Bank had been watching my account for some activity other than my SS income. When I took a part-time job they suddenly helped themselves to $547.00 from my bank account leaving me with $1 and a $111.00 overdraft. (Needless to say they are no longer my bank after 23 years). However the loss of $547 and a negative balance of $111 put my financial situation in a desperate situation. I went to BB&T and asked for assistance with my loan (i.e. a skip payment chance, etc.) First of all there are no longer any loan officers in the bank. Even the employees have to call the main branch to get any loan information. They then started charging me past due charges because I had gotten one month behind. They have piled up almost $700.00 in late charges and keep sending threats of foreclosure. They had me fill out a Loss Mitigation form and that turned out to be a waste of time. I defaulted on my property insurance and they bought insurance on the debt of $9, 000 by purchasing it to cover the loan. They purchased $43, 000 insurance against a $9, 000 loan that covers ONLY the structure. Now they want me to fill out Loss Mitigation again. Nothing has changed so, I do not know how that would help the second time. This could have been so simple if they had just let me skip one payment. I have tried to contact other banks but now my credit has been hurt by this situation and BB&T could care less!

BB&T is the absolute worst bank that i have ever dealt with, they have online banking for what, i don't know because you cannot depend on anything it displays and as far as holds on accts. i was told by both a representative of BB&T and through my online acct. that my check that i deposited would clear on the 7th so when they tried to cash a check that i had wrote they said that they couldnt because of insf. funds which became that way overnight i guess never can see my ballance as debits hit my acct. i have to guess...but anyway i got hit with an overdragt fee due to the fact that the check that was suppposed to clear on the 7th actually didnt get processed until the following morning which i was told was of the norm, this is not the first time but i just dont have time running from bank to bank, with a failing economy the last thing someone needs to worry about is that theyre hard earned money is going to be safe...i wish i had a voice that could be heard so that i could maybe put an end to these major banks not having to be held responsible for anything but the customer, we are at theyre mercy without any rights.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Outrageous new deposit policy

First of all, I'd like to state that I always accept personal responsibility for my mistakes. The complaint I'm making about BB&T has nothing to do with mistakes I've made such as incurring overdraft fees due to my negligence. It is about BB&T seemingly making new deposit policies intentionally unavailable or unclear to their existing customers. See below for details.

I am absolutely outraged. BB&T changed their deposity policy in, I believe, April 2008. Every BB&T representative I've talked with since has said, "We notified everyone." To which I've replied, "Really? Because I wasn't notified." Their response has been, "We sent everyone a notice in the mail with their statement." To which I, completely stunned, replied, "But BB&T gave me the option to go comepletely paperless quite a while ago. That obviously means that I for some time have not been recieving a statement through the mail. And you're telling me you people ONLY sent out a notice about a new banking policy in paper statements? Why would you do that, knowing some folks took your option of going paperless, unless the object was to try and manipulate your customers?"

Not one representative of BB&T has had a response to this question. Why? Because, as many folks have pointed out both in person and online, BB&T is trying to manipulate their customer base through their deposit policies.

I am taking my business to a credit union come next week. I've put this off because I, like so many of my fellow Americans, work full time and all my bills automatically deduct from my BB&T account and my work check automatically deposits, so it's a lot to deal with. But I'm getting off my butt and switching over to a credit union as soon as it's humanly possible.

The only way we (the Little People) can fight a large corporation's unfair practices is by suing or taking our business elsewhere. I would like to see them stripped of their customer base, and I think that would be a far more effective approach then attempting to sue.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Do not use bb&t

First off, I want to say that over the years I have been with quite a few banks (7 to be exact). And some have been bad, and some good, but none compare to BB&T.

I opened this account 6 months ago because their new branch was close to home, and with gas prices, I figured I would save money by banking closer to home. I opened the account online, which I thought was excellent because it was a real time saver, and a representative called me the next day to let me know my account was funded and official.

The next week I made my first deposit, which was my paycheck from xxxxx. They are not a huge company, but they are big enough that their checks are accepted everywhere without a question. The deposit was accepted, however it was after 2 so it would not be available until Tuesday (Monday night processing). This caught my attention, because I thought everyone was doing all-day-banking now, at least my last two banks had.

From that point, over the next couple of months, I made regular deposits with my checks (payroll and comission) from TM Co. Some checks were for a rather large amount, but no questions were asked, they were accepted and deposited. Now, like everyone, I had a family emergency and my funds ran tight, so I was glad I had linked my savings account to my checking for overdraft protection, or so I thought. BB&T let a charge of 8.00 go through which was a meal bought at McDonalds. For that 8.00, they charged me 35.00 overdraft charge and another 10.00 'processing fee' for moving the money to cover the charge from my savings. So, I was charged 45.00 for an 8.00 charge.

I called BB&T customer service and didn't wait on hold for long, and explained to the rep my problem and that I felt that since I was charged 35.00 for the paid item, I felt the 10.00 was excessive. I was told that this was their normal operating procedure and that it was in the fine print in the agreement I electronically signed when setting up the account. So, I asked them to remove overdraft protection. That way, if I tried to charge something and there wasn't enough money, I would be told the charge was declined; a little embarrassed, but I wouldn't have the pay 45.00. I was shocked to hear that I couldn't un-enroll in overdraft protection.

I shook this bad experience off, which I regret now, but soon incurred four more charges similar for small transactions that BB&T let through. I later found out their policy is to deduct your charges because crediting your account with a deposit, that way they get to collect all their fees.

The final straw was when I went to the Newton Grove branch. Up to this point, I had always used the Smithfield branch. I went it to make my normal deposit from TM Co. and the teller told me she was going to put a 5 day hold on the deposit because I was a NEW ACCOUNT. At this point, I had been with them 5.5 months and had made numerous deposits. I explained this to her, but she refused to let up. I asked for the manager, but she wasn't available at the moment. So, I walked out of there with a 5 business day hold on my paycheck. WTF!

I closed my account, which was an ordeal in itself and went back to my previous bank, KS Bank, which is awesome, especially since they have built a closer branch also.

On a side note, their internet banking is a joke. Every bank I have had to this point using a 3 column reporting feature, Debit, Credit and Balance. That way you know EXACTLY how much money you have. BB&T only has Debit and Credit. So you can't keep track of it as easily, and they are able to charge more fees.

DON'T USE BB&T.

The teller has to do the hold if the computer says so. While a manager can override it, and probably should have in this case, if a teller overrides a hold and the cehck is returned they can be FIRED. While you know your check was OK, from the teller's perespective, you're not worth getting fired over.

welcome to the club.

Ya BB&T is a horrible bank when it comes to your account. I ended up being charged twice buy my Auto Insurance for a months payment. Long story short my AUTO insurance refunded me one of the payments. But these two charges ### up my account to no end. Nothing like waking up to find out you are -$186.00 in the hole.

Any other bank would deny one of the charges from my auto insurance saying I didn't have the money. But they are more than willing to allow the transaction to go threw and charge you for it. I had to borrow $225 to get myself out of debt and have the money to cover a doctor payment that still was coming.

The next day I found out once again I was over withdrawn. But the thing that was strange was the two charges that did it, I had the money in there to cover it. So they charged me with a $70 overdraft fee then claimed it was the two small charges that did it.

When I went to BB&t to try to explain what was going on and my Auto Insurance said it was there mistake that it happened and they where refunding a payment if they could put my account on hold until I got the refund to stop any more overdraft fees from happening and they could call my auto insurance company to talk with them that it was there mistake. All I got from them more or less "oh well ### you, it's you lose. We don't care if it was a mistake"

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Fraud and cheating

This bank has caused us severe stress due to their severe and unrealistic overdrawn fees. I have been hospitalized recently for 8 weeks; with another hospitalization April thru May of this year (2008). They refuse to listen to me regarding other people helping my disabled husband thru all of this. We have been charged over $1, 000 in fees. This is unfair and an injustice against disabled customers. Husband is legally blind and can't walk. After my return home each time, it took a while before I was able to go online or phone to get banking info. on accounts. This caused bank to go ahead and charge fee upon fee upon fee upon fee. They are now holding money for 11 days - which may cause us to not be able to make house, car, and other expense payments from our bank accounts. We are definitely closing our accounts and going to another bank.

BBandT has been increasingly harder to work with and is extremely abusive on there charges and policies. Part of the problem with BB and T is they offer all these free "customer service" tools to help you but they do not tell you the full story. For instance, they offer a daily balance alert, which emails the acct holder their balance. But this info is not correct. They also offer online services where you can see pending transaction. These aren't correct either. Gas is not included in pending and certain debits, like an insurance payment auto debit, are not shown there. If you ever do make a mistake the BB and T policies will really get you. Let's say you use you have $100 in the bank and use your debit card for $10 in gas, $10 meal, and a $10 bill payment. That is all out of your account and you are showing everywhere (at the atm, online, ABD on bbt phone service) a balance of $70. But then that evening a check you forgot, an autodraft, whatever, is taken out for $105. You are now overdrawn, your mistake, 1 overdraft charge as a penalty...wrong! BB &T actually will take that draft and place it in front of the debits of that previous day and overdraft the lot of them! There reasoning is they feel that was a pending payment BEFORE you made those other transactions, so instead of a $39 charge you have a $160 charge. This is FACT, I can unfortunately show it. Other practices you may not know: withdrawing money from an ATM will result in a $39 charge if you are overdrawn. They will not alert you to the issue, they will give you the money and receipt and then charge an overdraft (yes, even at a BBT ATM). Have an issue and need help?, BB and T gives you 2 phone calls a month, free, if you call again you will be charged $2, and yes, that push you to overdraw also. Do you want to have them stop your debit card if you don't have funds, they will not do that either (ask your local manager, company line is: We don't want to return someones mortgage payment and have them lose there house). Best of luck dealing with these guys, but they should be brought up on charges for what they do.

I'm am being ripped off every week by BB&T and this is a shame.

I think the Government doesn't intervene when they are benefiting from the fraudulent transactions.

So, lets find out what the Government should be enforcing and sue them for ignoring the facts and allowing the banks to take advantage of us.

If all else fails...lets remove the money from BB&T until we can find a honest institution.

banks dont discriminate in terms of who is disabled or who is poor, etc. when they charge fees.

It is up to you the individual to be responsible when opening a bank account, and managing it so that it does not incur overdraft fees. That includes not writing checks or swiping your debit card when there is not enough money to cover your charges. There is no real cause for complaint in these postings.

Personally, I don't use BB&T because they charge a monthly maintenance fee on a checking account. couldn't close it fast enough when they implemented that BS.

BBT used to be a decent Bank but no longer. I recently got trampled by $210.00 in overdraft fees in one day because I made one error. They don't care and will take money from your families piggy bank in a second. It is time for consumers to unite and put these banks out of business. Let's learn to function without banks and we will all be better off and less stressed. We are all just numbers to the big businesses and government orgs. in this country, and that includes "all" members of Congress, the executive, and especially the judicial branch. We might as well be in Russia or Venezuela where you are bullied into submission by thieves. But do not give in, fight back by not participating in the sham. Use cash only when you can and treat others honestly and kindly.
And remember the banks elected Bush, elected Obama, and hold all the power. That is why they can bet away with getting bailed out no matter what.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Stealing my money

I deposited a check for $2, 000.00 on monday at the ATM. I paid some bills thinking the money was in the bank. I checked my account on line later and seen they was charging me $35.00 for every bill and merchndise I bought. One purchase was from a stamp machine for one .43 cent postage stamp that cost me $35.43. I called the bank and visit two of the branches showing them the online printout of my account showing a deposit was made before anything was bought. I was told the bank has a hold on the check for seven days and I will be getting a letter in the mail, they said I had a out-of-state check. It was written on a local bank down the street from BB&T. They got me for around $500.00 in fees. They gave me back close to $150.00 of it back but thats no help when money is as tight as it is these days. I was told by the branch manager that BB&T is going to get money anyway they can and they won't do any refunding that easy anymore. I'm closing that account as soon as everything I have out is cleared the bank. It's just wrong that banks are out to get us. I also heard that BB&T are in the works of closing, so if anyone reading this has an account there need to get all your money out and put it in a safe bank that will take care of you.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Fraud and scam

I recently had a talk with a rep from this bank. I had over 150$ worth of overdrafts. I had her explain what happened and she really couldn't. seems that i had charges go through, now I only use my debit card. when your debit card has a charge, the account is supposed to lock this amount of money until the actual posting that evening. I had two charges on hold/pending they were small. Then I deposited some money before noon. I then made a transaction after 3pm. this transaction was for 300$.

Here is the end result. The deposit did not post to the account because it was a check. the 300$ payment i made at 3pm got posted and knocked the other two or three on hold off hold. so that they could be charged overdraft. Now my argument was two fold. one if the funds are on hold and not available, then how did the 300$ charge knock them off, and two if i made a deposit of any kind before 12, then it should post that night before midnight.

They took all the charges off my account. BUT since then, I think my account has been targeted to get it back. I have had over $500 in overdraft fees due to the way they post largest first in the past month.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE ###!

I can get timeline reports of the account if a lawyer would like to see them and start a suit.

If anyone thinks these things cannot happen please pause and realize they do. I have an experience that I am afraid to tell for fear of being put away. Please stay away of BB&T. Do Not Give Them a Minutes Thought ! I am so sad for the lady's situation. Good luck ! If I had the money I would sue but that is why they get away with what they do, they know we don't have the money or time for a lawsuit.

I have another complaint against BB&T. I was there to make a large deposit to my savings account. The teller told me I shouldn't put it there., that I should talk to one of their financial advisors. So I did. I fell for the salesman who presented his program like a pyramid scheme, but I was dumb. Needless to say I lost money. It wasn't the tellers job to tell me what to do with my money. We are NOT all EQUAL with BB&T..

BB&T chose to work with one of their WEALTHY customers and an invalid will when my Aunt passed away this past year.

They allowed this other customer to come in and drill out and remove all contents of the joint Safe Deposit Box My Aunt had with me as the only valid co-signer on the SDB.

BB&T, also allowed this other customer to use a rescinded Power of Attorney to attach all my Aunts Accounts and IRAs...BB&T worked with these thieves because the thieves have kept large amounts of money with BB&T for over 35 years and are all chummy chummy with them.

My Aunts valid will naming me as the Executrix has been validated...but BB&T worked with the RICH customers and their Attorneys to bankrupt my Aunts Estate.

This has cost me an enormous amount in Attorney fees... I can't even begin to tell you the toll it has taken on my health. And the saddest of all...NONE of my Dear Aunts final wishes as stated in her VALID WILL will ever happen, as BB&T helped drag this out for almost 8 months until the Estate and Home were lost.

I am fighting the unspeakable actions of BB&T and the RICH customer with the help of many organizations and media outlets.

If you have found yourself in a similar situation with BB&T...I Pray for you. It is a living nightmare!

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Bad service

Let me begin by saying how deeply, deeply sick to my stomach, and how fed up I am in dealing with BB&T in Atlanta! I have been in a construction loan with BB&T since December 2007. It is now October 13, 2008 and my house is still not complete! Please explain to me how a bank can be so deceitful in explaining how a draw is actually dispersed, and how, its possible, to qualify for a loan, get approved for it, and have to fight tooth to nail to get enough funds from the draw to build the house! There idea of a draw schedule is an absolute joke! I was informed in the beginning that, I would have to put up an initial amount to get the project started, then, was also told that, I would receive a larger amount from the draw after the initial ground breaking . Not so! Lets do the math, grading, foundation, and frame package, 30, 000. BB&Ts first draw amount was, 8, 111.00. Now, lets assume we all know how to add. Im not sure about anyones calculations but according to mine, Im negative 21, 889.00! Then, after more work and more labor, the next draw that was given from BB&T was 4, 097.00! And the beat goes on! Meanwhile, I continue to pay the interest, which has gone from 250.00 to almost 800.00 a month. I have repeatedly called upon the manager, Sherry Bell, the VP Wendy Garry and the President of the loan construction dept. Brian to help me in this manner, either with an advance, or more of a draw to cover materials, and labor cost, but after more of the same, the project came to a screeching halt! I was then informed that after the sixth draw, I would start to incur the cost of inspection. However, the funny thing is, Wendy Gary(VP) informed me during the application process that I would only have 6 draws total! If I knew I had to fund the entire project, why in the HELL would I use BB&T for a construction loan! But let me follow with the bigger problem, the arrogant manager! Sherry Bell, who tries to insinuate that my builder is a bad builder because he has a smaller company, or because he doesnt have a two million dollar credit line. In my opinion, that simply means, we how have a discrimination problem. I am simply trying to build a house and move in it, sometime in this millennium, but I can't do that trying to rub two nickels together! I can only hope that someone will contact me on this matter to release the funds without the, quote This is for your protection crap! I AM GOING BANKRUPT TRYING TO BUILD A 200, 000 HOUSE! They have an inspector, they have insurance, and I have a great builder whose only intention is to build a beautiful, quality home! And finally, if something is not going to be done about this matter I will be determined to pursue whatever is necessary, i.e. CNN, legal action, etc. BB&T is the worst bank for a construction loan!

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Very disappointed

BB&T has caused me alot of problems for the last 3 years. From closing my savings account without calling me to inform me of this, because i didnt have exactly 300.00 in my savings account. To refusing to cash my check because of a negative balance in the account, which I've come to understand.

I'm young, and do tend to spend loosely, but I only spend loosely because BB&T gives me the impression that I have the money, Never fails this has happened to me at last 3 times. I've called the automated voice message system, got my balance, they tell me i have hundreds of dollars. I go spend some money, and the next day or two I make a call and they tell me there's an overdraft. VERY DISSAPOINTED.

TODAY is what really got me upset, I go to the bank to cash my check like i normally do on pay day. Mind you I just cashed my check two weeks ago at this very same bank, they tell me "I am unable due to your balance in your account" so I reply and say " Well, I just checked my account and it stated that I wasnt in the negative. I have X amount of dollars in the account". The teller replies with "Yes, you're right you arent in the negative, but in order for us to cash this check you need to have the same amount of money in your account in order for us to cash the check".

Now. the excuses they used for this is ridiculas.
1)"we've had customers come in with fake payroll checks and by the time we cash it they've already spent the money. - I've been a customer for 3 years and at the same job for 3 years, do you really compare me to a criminal with fraudulant checks?. Fake Payroll checks? Its not my fault you all are too stupid to realize that a check is fake.

2)"well maybe the branches you went to were doing you a favor by cashing your checks, because this is something they arent supposed to be doing"- WHY would a business...a bank for that matter, have new rules and regulations and not share them with the customers? when it effects the customers? and why would you assume it's helping me rather than tell me up front how it is?

3)I asked was there anyone to complain to, over the phone... "No ma'am, you can go online and go to the contact us and send an email"- who's to say this email would get answered?

4) so when i asked them if they would take care of the 70 dollar overdraft that I know will occur tomorrow. they say no... although they are responsible for the overdraft for not cashing my check so that i could deposit the money into my account.

I dont know what to do and if there's something I can do at all, but I will be looking into this situation and the many other situations ive encountered.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) bb&t history

I have banked at BB&T for almost 10 years. I have my morgage thru them as well I was until this week a loyal customer that even recommended them after dealing with what your about to read. Not anymore...

First I opened an account with BBT in my name alone I was married but didnt put my wife on the account. After a year or so the local BB&T we used got to know us well, and my wife was able to go in and take money out and use my account WITHOUT her name being on the account. At the time I didnt mind cause our relationship was fine. I also had a credit line attached to my checking as well. I went in and added my wife to the account because when she called in the 800 number she was unable to help maintain my account. No prob so far.. Well 9 years later we get a divorce. I went in to remove her name from the account for my financial saftey because she had created some charges after we split that went on to the credit line. I also told the branch manager to put a comment only I could access the account. Since I was going to deal with my wife about the money, and I was not broke, I had the credit line froze and removed the overdraft connection from my checking account and paid off the credit line. How ever I also found out at this time that the credit line is in my name alone still no one ever asked does her name need to be on it. I thought since it was attached to the checking that was automaticly done when I put her on checking. I was now responsible for her charges on this account completly. Thanks BB&T..

I refinanced my house to get her name off of the loan. My wife had no credit before marrying me. My wife also had no income comming in at all hardly to account for real income however I was told that I was a higher risk being single and my interest rate would be higher. um I even had a very very nice credit report with only 2 late payments in over 15 years all other accounts paid in full. After threating to take the loan else where they lowered my interest down to somthing i agreed to.

While refinancing and using money to put into the house to raise the appraisle I requested to unfreeze my credit line for safety on my checking. The person that froze my credit line accidently closed it instead. "No problem sir just reapply" they say. I got denied for a new credit line, I originally had a 2500.00 credit line i only wanted a 500.00 to be safe. Nope! so I complained the branch manager who called a regional manager who said reapply and Ill make sure it goes thru. Ok I reapply I got denied again this hit my credit report twice.

Well while all this is going on my car breaks down. This causes me to not have a few hundred dollars to pay a loan that the refinance of my house was going to pay off. The BB&T moragage advisor I had told me not to worry about paying it because the refinance was going to pay it off in a few days. Then there was a delay in my refinance from BB&T. I get another hit on my credit line because BB&T took 5 days longer to get everything to go through on my refinance (I think i recall it being due to somone being on vacation). Now I have the first late payment in a long time. Where was this financial institution when I really needed them. The day after I get a late payment hit on my credit report they paid the loan off.

A week later bb&t sent me a coupon for 150 off a morgage loan. Um well thats nice but BB&T even though 7 days had only passed they would not give me the 150 dollars back or a credit. Nice way of really keeping track of your customers this was an insult. I see now that other people that are new to BB&T loans are more imporatant that an existing ones. Well now to the fun part Overdrafts.

I waited a few months later and went back and told BB&T that I do not appreciate being a customer that had a credit line I chose to freeze to protect my financial stability taken from me becuase of someone elses mistake in closing it. I do not like feeling uncomfortable with out a credit line. I also do not want to add more credit cards or go around applying for new ones. Well low and behold I admittingly made a mistake on my checking and yep I get a 35.00 charge on a $5.00 mcdonalds charge. Then come more charges from a few more items. I wound up spending 105.00 on about 40 dollars worth of items. This charge is rediculous. I was able to get the bank to reverse half of this charge however I was treated like a ### in the way the relationship banker told me I should do better at my register. I made a human error, You made me feel small and stupid BB&T by making this comment you think I dont know after dealing with this that I MADE A MISTAKE. I again complained this wouldnt never happened if I had my credit line.

I later got another charge I ignored it I made another mistake. I didnt want to complain over a process I knew about I ignored the charge. About 4 months later I lost my job I used money I had saved and paid my house 4 payments in advance to keep life easy for me. Yep see BB&T I care about my actions towards you still and my responsibilities. However I made another mistake right when I got my new job and over spent my checking again about 20 dollars and got that 35.00 Overdraft fee. Mainly due to high gas rates. I had no option but to get gas to get to my new job. I carry a check into the bank and deposit part of it guess what I walked out of the bank not knowing i was in the negative at the time BB&T chooses to send me a letter 3 days later? I paid two bills and get what more overdraft fees and have not heard anything from my bank. I get my payroll check while this is happening and BB&T has held it giving me 100.00 credit leaving me in the negative by the time the overdraft fees finish and my check goes through Ive lost about 380.00 of my check due to 60.00 worth of charges. Yet my debit card still works with no credit line. Go figure sounds planed to me..

I had a Centura account 10 years ago. If you had no credit line and no money you card was denied when you swiped it. If you had a credit line but no money and chose debit you charge was denied Basically the cards worked better. BB&T says they allow these charges to occur because they say we their customer dont want to be embarrased when purchasing, they think we would rather pay $40.00 for a bacon egg and cheese bagel. I dont remember being asked this.

Heres my suggestion BB&T if your going to allow charges to occur when there is no money and they are going to be this high. Either make one charge per day not per transaction. Or how about hold the charges block future charges on the card after holding the first ones. Conact me and tell me what occuring, Its only a phone call heck it could even be automated. "Danger Wil Robinson your account is in danger" Anything would be nicer. Not a feeling that you are grinning bending me over. Even by putting a instant block on my card to signal me to contact you is better hell this would protect against theft or fraud (hmmm are you really protecting me at all?). Charge a overdraft fee thats a percent of a charge up to 35.00 that would be nicer. Damn I can come up with many more than this...

One thing with any bank you have to understand is this: The person you are talking to rarely has the authority to refund fees or change bank policy. Sometimes, it's simply the fact that the software WON'T LET THEM. Time, patience, and the right person can often get it done.

I must add a follow up, even though it took alot of complaining and alot of phone calls. I still will leave my history posted but, BB&T refunded every bit of my overdraft fee's. I was givin back 350.00 worth of overdraft fee's. Thank you BB&T you have saved me as a customer.

I have been banking with Coastal Federal here in Myrtle Beach for about seven years with absolutely no problem at all. Then the news came a year or so ago that BB&T was purchasing my bank. I was skeptical but kept the account because I knew of know other bank to turn to, and at that point had heard nothing about BB&T. Well it's a year later and they have pushed me to the brink of financial ruin! I put my money in the bank just as I've always done and I used the card with no problem to pay bills and purchase school clothes. Imagine my surprise when I checked my account on-line and it was $1200.00 overdrawn! How can this be? I had $2000.00 in my account on Wednesday and now it was Monday and it's $1200.00 in the red? Well It's now a couple of weeks later and I still have no Idea how this happened, and BB&T will not do anything to make it right. They told me there deposit system was different and that it is an 'intelligent system'. I Googled 'BB&T horror stories and this site came up and I see I'm not alone! Somebody tell me what's going on! I want to organize people who they have done this to and start a petition, go to the press, or something. How can we do that?

oh don't worry about that. i have just opened up an account with BB&T and i haven't really completely opened up this account yet. i recieved a letter in the mail saying something about overdrawing and that if i don't pay my overdraw dues, they are going to repo everything i own!

i called them up this morning, 2/9/09 and really told them i recieved such a threatening letter on an account that i DID NOT use and overdraw from. BB&T are thieves and they should not and should never be allowed to finance any kind of payments, loans, etc because they will rip their clients off. even though i just opened my account with BB&T, i am going to go somewhere else to open my account. i am not going to deal with such threats from this bank.

i don't have time for this crap from these banks that seem to rob from their clients. i'm not. it's rediculous to have to rely on a bank that you thought you can trust and then they go and rob you behind your back. if i may rate BB&T, i strongly suggest that everyone that has an account with them, switch to a more reliable bank that you can trust.
