Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) excessive fees - deceased family member

Service Charges for Deceased Family Member David, on or about July 2010, BB&T Bank was notified in regarding the recent death (Dave died on Easter Sunday 2010) and one account was closed. At the time of Dave's death, his checking account had less than $500.00 but it would have been enough to help bury him. Due to limited funds and our brother dying without a will, it took a time to have proper paperwork to close account, but BB&T started charging Inactivity Fees $7.50 and also Maintenance Fees $8.00" deducted monthly. After contacting and trying to explain our situation to BB&T, at 3 separate locations and unable to reach anyone via telephone, his account is continually charged $15.50 monthly. Our phone calls and face to face visits have fallen on uncaring and deaf ears. BB&T offered for us to close the account since they have now taken over $250.00 in charges.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Dishonest bank practices

I had closed my account after noticing i was charged $ 187.00 in fees for dollar movie rentals, and fast food.
I am unemployed and i put my money into the bank, when i got my ballance from the teller 1/3 of my deposit was gone.
I paid the money and told the teller to close my account, she informed me that it could not be closed for 1 day, so i asked is there anything pending...she said no. Okay so the account is paid in full, I closed my account, no pending charges...good
NOPE, on the sencond of August I get a letter stating they paid a check to Kaiser for $105.00 and the letter states that if i want to keep my account in good standing i need to pay this in 30 days...of course you know they charge $35.00 and $5.00 a day with a negative ballance.
So to sum up this letter, I closed my account paid in full and 5 days later they decide to pay a check and charge me all sorts of fees.
this is a big bank involved in Dishonest banking practices. Uncle sam i need more money to pay the fees please.

My bank promised me a new type of account. They promised me that if I didn't have the funds to cover the purchases I made the purchase would be denied. They promised me I would not incur overdraft fees or have purchase amounts on my account that I didn't have the funds to cover ( I never use or order paper checks). They never once said that it was only for purchases made at the store with my debit card until after I agreed to open the account and noticed there was -$141.00 in my account. So I called them up and spoke with a manager who informed me that only the purchases I made at the store with my debit card would be covered by that account feature and that I would have to pay the cost of those purchases but they would wave the overdraft fees, and that the banker who talked me into opening the account withheld those important details ( they came to my work and approached me by the way I did not go into the bank to inquire about opening an account). Now don't get me wrong, I am thankful that they agreed to pay the overdraft fees but I do believe the banker who withheld those details to trick me into opening the account should have to be held accountable for his dishonest business practices. Don't fault me for this I was raised to be an honest person and expect the same level of excellence from the people with whom I do business. It's called good business ethics.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) bb&t customer service

Let's start when there was a charge on my account. I wasn't sure where it came from, so naturally I called online customer service to ask about it. They told me if I didn't know where it came from I needed to disable my debit card. I had no problem with that because I was told it would happen the next day because they didn't even have my right address in their system. They said I needed to fill out a form and email it back before they could change my address . I got off the phone went to withdraw some money and with in 10 minutes it was already cut off. I had to go home to re contact BB&T the lady was rude denying what she had previously told me, so I asked for the supervisor. After explaining and yelling the supervisor turned my card on long enough so I could get money then she shut it off again. I hate this bank with a passion, and have NEVER had so many problems with a bank in my life. Now I am finding hidden call fees to THEIR customer service when they mess up or i don't understand a transaction, so i get charged 2 dollars to ask about MY bank account. Oh and I had already called my bank earlier that day and they never returned my phone call. They shouldn't charge for customer service online if there's no way to contact a main branch for free.

Just be glad you do not live in Beckley WV. We have one branch on Harper Road and those employees are usually very pleasant. But we also a branch on Robert C Byrd Drive and those are the rudest people. They are not pleasant and they act as though they do not want to be bothered to help you if you have an issue. I hate going to that branch and aviod it as much as I can.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) 2.00 amphone charge

this company is charging people to ask questions it makes no sense that you get charged 2.00 to find out why they screwed up your account in the first place. It kind of makes you wonder if they don't intentionally skew their online results with charges and no online help so that you basically have to call and get charged they're worthless

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) handicapped senoirs

This bank was informed more than once about my mother being blind and having a hearing impairment but also that their was a member of family may come in with her to withdraw money. The manager was told this along with two other associates to notify me if this happens( I'm POA). This happened and now the banks claims they did the right thing because my mother was sitting there. My mother did not hear or know what she was signing during this visit. This was not a small amount but $76000 to support her and pay for her caretaker because of her situation. BB& T denies any wrong doing--I feel like they did not protect my mothers best interest. They also let this family member go into the safety deposit box(my acct. also) and go thru all my personal papers. Again just because she was present they proclaim no wrong doing..I thjink they breached my confidentiality and my mothers.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) poor service

I have had a problem with my BB&T account since December 2011 and I have been unable to get anyone to correct this for me. In September I requested your Business Online ACH/Wire Service be added to our account. After we reviewed the service, we determined we did not need it and cancelled it in October with our local Relationship Banker, Liza. At this time we had two accounts with BB&T and decided to close the account the service was charged through. In November we realized the closed account was reopened because the service had not been properly cancelled and the account automatically reopened when the service was charged. At this point with spoke with Charlie, the bank manager who said he would be sure to cancel the service and permanently close the account. He did this in December. However, when he closed the account, instead of canceling the service, he switched the service to the current bank account I have with BB&T. Since December I have been charged 15.00 a month for the ACH/Wire service I had asked to be cancelled in October. In January I called the banking 800 regarding this charge, I was told someone would look into it and call me back. When I saw the charge in February I went back into my branch and spoke to the Relationship banker again, she said she could not help me. In March I was charged again, I called the 800 number, I was told, they would research it. At this point I called Charlie, my bank manager two to three times in March and left messages, he never returned my call. In April, I phoned the 800 service again to explain the total charges on my account had now reached 75.00 and no one was willing to cancel this service and refund my money. I informed her that I would like a refund so I could close my account. Her name was Sarah. She promised she would look into these charges and get back with me. Instead, I received a letter from my bank manager telling me he was closing my account, with no refund. I do not understand why BB&T could not provide the simple service of canceling this charge for me. I have requested this cancellation since December and have been ignored. Please inform me why you have refused to return my calls and cancel this service. Also, please inform me why you are not going to refund the charges for the service I clearly have repeatedly asked you to cancel. I am surprised that a bank would treat a customer so unprofessionally.

At this point I have been charged a total of $75.00. $15.00 was charged to my account on each of the following dates: 12/01/2011, 01/03/2012. 02/01/2012, 04/02/2012.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) unfair business practice

We closed a family business. The checking account had a $25 balance. The bank charged a low balance fee and charged the account $100. They bounced the payment for lack of funds and charged another fee. They charged our credit card the overdraft protection. We went to close the account and they want another $18 to close the account. Manager was rude and could care less about the 5 years of business we ran though their bank. There are lots of banks out there. Do yourself a favor and deal with someone else.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) Cashier's check deposit delay

I deposited a cashier's check today and asked the teller to verify that it was the same as cash; no chance for it to be stopped or not be funds available. Another teller butted in and said "oh no, the cashier's check has to clear before it is proven to be good". Surprised I trid to ask "then what's the difference between a cashier's check and a regular check". Before I could get the question asked the teller talked over me and repeated the above statement; of course I couldn't hear her since I was talking. I waited until she was finished and then tried to ask the question again. Again she talked over me. When she finsihed I asked her to let me ask the question before she talked over me. I started to ask the question again and she talked over me again. Steaming, I didn't try again because I was ready to explode. Don't they teach these people how to listen?
I'm now looking for another bank and will transfer my accounts in a few days.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) security questions

I wanted to check my BB&T account and could not because I needed to set the security questions. None of the questions pertained to me and my life. I called customer service and was told that I would not be able to use the on-line banking with out answering those questions...questions that I would need to make up answers to. How does BB&T expect me to remember "made up answers"? I will be closing my account because this is the worst customer treatment..this is a total inconvenience...say goodbye to a customer that has been with your bank since your start. My balance is $215, 848.00. BYE, BYE!

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) misrepresentation

I'll make this short and sweet. I don't have perfect credit, when I was younger I made a few mistakes, most of which I have resolved, I still have a few things in Chexsystems. So, I was looking into getting a pre-paid visa card or some type of pre-pay or second chance account. Someone told me about the BB&T pre-pay debit card. I thought to myself, BB&T is a reputable company and this might work just fine. So I applied, I was denied, ok, so how is it pre-pay when they do a credit check or other checks? Most pre-pay accounts I know of do not do credit check, hence the PRE-PAY part of it. So I called to question the decision, I was told by a representative they do do a credit check of some sort. My advice you everyone out there and why I am writing this review is, take a second look at this bank if you are in the same boat as I, I went to a local credit union, they opened me a regular checking account with no problem, been with them for months now, not issues. I am much older and more mature and it is sad to see bank like BB&T punish you for past mistakes, I though that was the point of the pre-pay account, if they are going to deny people for prepay accounts, why bother, just check them for a regular account. I would recommend checking into a credit union or other financial institution. I believe in being up front and honest with people, if you are going to do a credit or chexsystems check, that is perfectly fine, just let people know, if you are going to offer a PREPAY account, represent it in a way the people know what to expect, either it is PREPAY or it is a credit or credit worthy account.

They don't do a credit check, but they do check with Chexsystems to see if you have anything in their system about you, if they do you are considered High Risk and thus not eligible for a card. I have a $150 limit card that is post-paid credit that I use, Prepaid will do nothing for your credit at all, and most charge you every time you do anything with the card or account. The one I have there is no interest, and only a $10 a year maintenance fee for it, but then there is a $150 limit on it which is really small, but it counts on your credit report as revolving credit.

I would resolve any issues with Chexsystems first before trying to build your credit back up, as they can and trust me will eventually take any checks sent into them into court and garnish your wages or levy your bank account.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) repossesion

So we accidently write a truck payment on the business account checking and it bounces. 7 days later after the error, we put a stop payment on it so we don't incur double NSF fees and re-right the check on our personal account. For whatever reason, it does not clear. We bring cash to fix this but by now its almost 30 days late. This started it.
Today - December 22, the repo man was at my door. Yep. 69 days late and they wanted $1768 CASH or the take the truck. Glad to say the truck was out of town. We run an all volunteer horse rescue with 27 mouths to feed. After 3.4 years, we make this ONE mistake and this is how we get treated.
I go to my local branch and pay them $400 cash and $900 in a check that will clear and can pay them the balance Dec. 30 - which would be for our Dec. payment, which is now 8 days late! Not good enough! Repossession 800 number says they will still come take the truck. Glad we have friends with locked garages all over town.

Merry Christmas BB&T - thank you. Don't expect me to ever say anything nice about your services.

Wring on the wrong account is an old trick right up there with putting the wrong check in the envelope. Have you tried that one? It should buy you a couple of extra days or pretending to forget to sign the check but mail it anyway. Good luck. It's not like anyone does this. Oh wait; I first did it in 1963. Maybe banks have caught on by now.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) thieves

Warning if you go online to check account balance and use no other service and are being charged a BB&T online banking fee. It is wrong they are charging you for Quicken and the bill pay service. This fee is 7.95 a month and it is stealing from someone if they don’t use the service or never signed up to use it.

Then being told by one person Branch Banking and Trust Company can only refund 2 months then being told they can refund it all if the bank wants to, then being told oh now we can do three months but that’s all we can. This is wrong and in my eyes I see it has stealing!

I thought this was the fee for just going online to check account, I only found out today that this is for something I don’t use or have never signed up for.

I have been trying to resolve a reoccuring fee on my account. It comes up as OFX Software fee 7.95 a month. Total of 5 charges October 2021 - February 2022 .Not something I signed up for. I have spent over 5 hours on hold in 4 day period. No one to ever talk to ! I went to my branch in person. Nothing they can do to help - I have to call! The only option the branch gave me was to cancel my card. Instead I am going to cancel my account and go to a new bank. Things have been awful since BBT merged with Truist. I would not recommend this bank to anyone.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) stay away

Cash is always good...right?! Not according to BB&T! I intentionally went to Suntrust to cash my paycheck so that I could make a cash deposit at BB&T to cover bills, etc. I made the deposit on 8/29/08 at 2:05 p.m. thinking all would be fine...the deposit would be credited to my account since there was no 'wait' time on cash. WRONG! The deposit was not credited to my account until September 2, 2008 causing an INITIAL overdraft charge of $420.00!

I immediately called the branch and was told the same old speech about 'deposits made after 2:00 p.m. would not be credited until the next business day'. I understand that with a check, but CASH! I was told that the Manager could not do anything and would get with the Regional Manager for authorization, if any, to refund the fees.

I never heard from anyone that day and low and behold...you guessed it...when I check my account on September 3, 2008 there had been an additional overdraft charge of $385.00 added to the already withdrawn $420.00!

I again called the branch, spoke to the manager, this time in tears. Got the same speech..he was waiting to get a call back and would let me know when he heard something. Never heard anything that day either.

Sooo, I check my balance the NEXT day, September 4, 2008 and OMG! another $315.00 had been deducted for overdraft fees! My husband's entire pay check that had been direct deposited into the account had been totally eaten up! I called the branch again, same story, never heard so I went to the branch. Unbelievably, I got the same story.

Long and short, I sit here right this minute STILL waiting to hear whether or not my life can go on, if I can eat, pay my rent and just have gas to get to work on Monday. I am with ANYBODY and EVERYBODY who would like to start some type of legislation to stop this type of thing from happening to the citizens of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

Once had a similar experience with cascading debits. They purposely arrange the order of incoming debits so as to maximize the number of overdraft fees assessible. Took me for $300, the crooks!

BB&T took $110 dollars from me. They continued to charge fees even after a below zero balance. Now they tried to charge me $8.00 dollars to cash BB&T customers' checks. The irony is that I was paying on my BB&T Visa account. What would you do...hmmmm?
I appreciate my customers; does BB&T?

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) overcharged service, bad customer service

I have been a loyal customer to BB&T Merchant services for approximately 17 years now. Within the last year, they raised my rates and I spent half a vacation day trying to get it all corrected. No one cares to issue credit or that I am very unhappy with the customer service or lack of would be a better statement. I have tried all avenues to work it out with them and no one seems to care. Truly not the type of service I expected with the BB&T connection or all the money I have given to them over the years. I just wanted to put this out here to give others a heads up so hopefully they will not have to go through the same thing I have been experiencing with them. It is hard enough these days to make it with a small business in this economy without your merchant service company working against you.

I agree, I didn't have them that long. But when I tried to close the account, they NEVER said it was an early termination fee and I was hit with $195.00 charge. I was cancelling the account becaude I had been laid off for 15 months and couldn't afford their monthly charges...

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) online banking and customer service

Scheduled a payment to pay a credit card with their online banking. I download all transactions to Quicken to confirm. It confirmed the scheduled transaction.
2 days later a payment was made to the wrong company, a telecom company. The amount was substantial
I called BB&t immediately and they told me they could see the issue and were correcting and I could see within an hour. It never was corrected. I called again and was told something similar.
It was not corrected. I called again and was supposed to be called back.
Bottom line _ they sent me an e-mail saying it had to be my error. I could agree if I had not had third party confirmation from the date of the transaction.

Be careful with their online banking and confirm everything with some type of third party software. the issue is how do you get the mistake corrected if it is made to an unethical company. Thankfully mine was made to one that cooperated.

Go to your Bank and tell them you want to file a dispute on that payment, they will give you a form to fill out and within 7-10 business days it should be resolved. I had to do this with my bank in the past.

Truist Bank (formerly BB&T Bank) deposit

My mother deposited a $1750 check in my account on 10/3/2011, being an out of state check I understand that there is a hold on it but the teller put a 10 day hold on it because I had had previous bounced "checks". The last bounced "check" I had was in August and I had made a total of $4500 dollars in deposits in August and September and they were not held like this. I spoke to a manager at the bank and she said that she chose to make the hold and even though the money was withdrawn from my mother's account and technically in my account she is not going to release the funds. I explained to her that I had direct debits that come out of my account and my account if going to be overdrawn because she is choosing to hold the money from my account and she said it is my decision. I may have up to $350 in overdraft fees because of her "decision" and told me that I should check my account and can sign up for online banking for 5 dollars a month to avoid this.

Do you know how sometimes there is a $1.00 authorization that is requested when something is charged to a debit card? Well, BB&T actually charges overdraft fees on the $1.00 authoriztion charge AND a seperate overdraft fee on the remainder of the charge itself. On their website they say that "only the actual amount of the purchase will post to your account", but, what is happening is that they are charging overdraft fees on the pending transactions, including that $1.00.

Here's another example: After a $36 online debit charge, which was within five minutes turned around and credited back in the account, BB&T charged me $70 in overdraft fees. They charged $35 for the $1.00 authorization and then, another $35 for the actual $35 charge itself. So, the transaction was an immediate credit, but it cost me $70 in overdraft fees.

Maybe, in their disclosure statements they have drawn up their own rules and regulations. I don't know. I am not a lawyer. BUT, I do know this...there is such a thing as moral principles that businesses should adhere to. Especially when they are actually using YOUR money to run a business.

It is obvious that they are going under and are desperate and are generating overdraft fees from their customers.

BB&T is the worst bank ever. I was with Bank Atlantic, and was switched to BB&T after the takeover. Since the take over I found the customer service equal to Nazi concentration standards.

My main problem is that they didn't include my balance notification with the transfer. Because of that I was never notified when my balance got low. This was a feature setup with Bank Atlantic. How convenient that they were able to transfer all the other information, but not the low balance notification from my Bank Atlantic account. Could it be so customers will get over drawn without warning, and then they can charge an over draft fee! because of this I was charged $210 in over draft fees!

I'm am being ripped off every week by BB&T and this is a shame.

I think the Government doesn't intervene when they are benefiting from the fraudulent transactions.

So, lets find out what the Government should be enforcing and sue them for ignoring the facts and allowing the banks to take advantage of us.

If all else fails...lets remove the money from BB&T until we can find a honest institution.
