BatteriesPlus sold bad product

My 12 yr old son purchased a 12v Welker Battery for his pocket bike with his cash. He brought it home and used it for a couple of days before it died, way earlier than it should have. Tried to charge it but it would not take a charge. We took it back to batteries plus where it was purchased. The clerk informed us that it was indeed bad, but since my son purchased this with cash and did not have a receipt, the would not replace it. This is a battery that is unique so they knew it was from them and in near perfect condition.

I suggest people do business with companies that do the right thing when they sell a bad product.

a smart company would have taken back the battery with absolutely no questions asked. I know if they had done this you would have continued to purchase batteries from the company and told others how great the company is so it would have created more customers. The problem with most franchisees is that they think small and don't have the customer service attitude. On the positive side, you learned that it is best to go to Walmart, Target or any other major retail chain where customer service is superior. I never buy from mom and pop shops because they have bad customer service when it comes to returns, warranties and price.

I know you make the story more sympathetic because you mentioned it was a "kid" who made the purchase, but bottom line is you need a receipt to return things. You as the adult should have either told him to put receipt in safe place or take it from him and save it. Its called being responsible.

BatteriesPlus bad watch battery

I went to the Orlando store on Orange Blossom Trail to buy a watch battery. I was told that I could buy a battery that they would install for $9.00 without a warranty, or pay about double to include a "lifetime warranty." I felt that with a new standard battery, I could expect at least a year's life from it. In 3 months the battery died! I would not buy anything else from this company.

When you have a watch and they replace the battery and tell you it’s lifetime and charge you for it Be sure to bring your receipt otherwise they sell you a lifetime battery again. They tell you it’s in their computer but I guess they can’t read. I thought I had lifetime so I came home and found my receipt took it back and they did credit me. I have another watch with lifetime that I just found where they charged me twice. I guess from now on bring you a receipt or else get charged double. It’s a good scam

BatteriesPlus cheated/scammed

Bought a battery from Battery Plus with a three year warranty. Since this is a convertible, I opted for the more expensive, higher AMP battery which I think was a 720CCA. One and a half years later it failed. Called the store, said it would be prorated and come on down. Got there and he calls some guy from Advance Auto to double check the specs. Told me that according to Batteries Plus and Advance Auto that the battery called for in this car was a 525CCA. Tried to tell me if I put a too big a battery in a car that the alt wouldn't be able to charge it. When I complained that he was replacing a more expensive battery with a cheaper one, he continued with his sales lies. This put me in a bind; if he'd told me this on the phone, I could have called a few places to check around. Not knowing if this bad battery would last another day or get me home, I took the 525CCA that he prorated. I found out that the 525CCA would fit but every auto parts store had about three upgraded options for a better battery.

That was June, now it's November and that 525CCA battery has failed. The manager has graciously offered to upgrade me to a higher amp battery at my own cost. How kind to replace a replacement I shouldn't have ever been given. The replacement should have been like kind and like quality. I think I'll take the smaller battery, let it fail in another five months and let them give me a second free battery.

Want a good battery, anyplace but this place.

the manager is a fat tobacco chewing redneck slob who use to work for advance auto. He has inexperienced sales associates that just kiss his fat ### to keep their job but the employees dont like him. The batteries are crap and refurbished and they have a huge mark up on the batteries from what they pay for them.

BatteriesPlus dishonest and poor quality batteries, #

First off, lets get this out into the open. Batteries plus batteries, despite their explicit denial, are refurbished and recycled. I purchased a battery for my brand new 2009 motorcycle, that has had all of the routine work and diagnostics performed, and is in perfect working condition. The battery looked "used", and the date stamped was several months old, but when I installed it my bike fired up and it worked for several months. During the winter, I pulled the battery and placed it on a workbench attached to a batttery tender. As soon as the weather broke I put it in my bike and went for a ride. Started fine. After a couple days of rain, I went to start it again, and it would not fire. I recharged the battery, and it kicked over again. After a few more days of non-use, the battery was unable to hold sufficient charge to fire. I took it back to the store, it being only 7 months into a 1 year warranty. They tested the voltage and told me that I was mistaken, the battery was working properly. I asked them to keep it for a few days, so tthat they could see the battery looses it's max charge by simply sitting unused. They called me and told me that the battery was working "better than our new ones on the shelf", and that the problem was obviously my brand new motorcycle. Having run a diagnostic on the bikes charging system, I knew that the problem was the battery not holding charge. This is an indication of a bad battery, shot, kaput, useless, and most importantly, old. The manager agreed to honor his warranty after much heated arguing, and give me a new battery in exchange. I brought the new battery home, put it on the trickle charger for a few days. When I put it in my bike, it would not fire. Now either they gave me a bad battery, or, and this is more likely, the # manager gave me back my original battery to play a fast one, and prove to me that my battery worked. I went right to the store, extremely angry, and demanded a new battery off of the shelf. I installed the brand new battery that I personally picked off of the shelf, and the bike fired right up! And is running fine for days now. The manager had the nerve to call me at 8am the following morning, angry at having been found out for his # dishonest business practices. He denied giving me back the old battery, and I not having marked it before I returned it, had absolutely no way to prove it. He was unprofessional, dishonest, and unpleasant to deal with. All in all, this was way too much of a hassle, and I will spread the word to every biker I know to never to business with batteries plus again. They give you batteries that fail far too soon, because they are all recycled and recharged refurbished old batteries. They don't stand behind their products, and lliterally "fight" with their customers in the most unprofessional way possible. #, selling # products. I will buy yuasa from this day forth, because trying an off brand isn't worth the 10$ you save.

Also, if anyone is interested, the bike is still running well, and starting as it should. Test complete, and proof that the original battery was unable to hold sufficient charge.

It's impossible to say, since I haven't been to every Bat's Plus store...
However, this one, does. And if it's a chain... Do the math.
If a battery is "new", it has yet to be activated. I have purchased new batteries, they come with acid, and the cases are flawless. These batteries are already activated, charged, and the cases show signs of wear and restickering. = refurbished

Good. I'm offensive, because I actually know a thing or two about motorcycles and batteries. The problem isn't and never was a question, bad battery, ### customer service. Don't offer opinions contradicting what I already know to be true, unless your an expert. But judging by the 80 posts you have on here, I'm sure you're just bored.

Update by steveybee
Apr 11, 2011 7:50 pm EDT

Crybaby, please actually read my complaint, instead of policing the complaint boards to offer a contrary opinion. People continue to shop despite ### customer service because they still need products and services, ###s don't take the need or want away, just make the process unbearable.
I purchased the battery in summer last year, it worked, after storing in warm dry place ON a battery tender, it no longer held capacity charge. Indicates old, beat, battery. The warranty is covered BY batteries plus, they manufacture and service their own warranties.
This WAS a warranty situation, but because they considered a battery that no longer was able to hold capacity, but passed a load test (ie powered the lights, not the starter), they wouldn't exchange. Eventually the manager/owner agreed to exchange for a new battery, gave me the old one back to pull a fast one, which didn't work. A week ago, not cold weather. The "third" battery I got, actually works. Again, please read before you post. I know people just like offering their opinions on here, but I don't understand making irrelevant comments on an issue you're not involved in. If Batteries Plus wants to chime in, I'd welcome it.

Update by steveybee
Apr 11, 2011 3:44 pm EDT

Location is listed above. Like McDonalds, yes I believe that though each store is a franchise, the product remains the same. Read the complain threads on here, and you'll see. Though this particular owner was an ###, and ruined his own stores reputation, the product and warranty are the root issue. Selling a refurb product as "new", and not honoring the warranty are i'm sure, company policy.

Also, test completed, battery laid unused for three days, and fired up again today, thrice. Proof that the problem was indeed the battery, and not the electrical system of the motorcycle. I have come to the conclusion that customer service is a thing of the past.

Update by steveybee
Apr 08, 2011 6:44 pm EDT

Yeah, so here's the thing. The new one actually works. the one they gave me back, didn't. There's your comparison. That's not an alternator problem, that's not a spark plug problem, and that's not a starter problem.. It's a battery problem. Batteries Plus just doesn't want to admit that their battery could possibly be not charging to capacity, because they'd have to admit that they sell ### products. And substituting a new battery with my old one, just to prove your point, is a ### business practice. ###.

Took I-Pad to Batteries Plus Bulbs. Only problem was it wasn't holding a charge. Two weeks later and 6 trips to the store, l picked up my I-Pad destroyed. Tried to offer refurbished said I want my money back. Received my money and ran as fast as I could out of there customer service was the worst I ever experienced. Went to Apple Store, purchased brand new air pad and very happy with purchase and customer service at Apple? I am enjoying reading these compailnts against Batteries and Bulbs on my new I-Pad. I too am in customer service and will not recommend this store at all. I have plenty of opportunity to recommend but remain silent, my only vengeance is what goes around comes around, and this store won't be around long.

The batteries are not used--in any way... each battery is filled before it is put on the shelf--bp fills it for safety reasons. After a battery is filled the shelf life begins...bp keeps track of the shelf life...and only one battery of any kind is filled at any time... so think what you want--shop where you want--but stop assuming that you know everything and that all batteries plus stores are the same...

every store or group is owned by different owners--so smash the ones who deserve it--but leave the ones out that dont.

Just so you know not all batteries that are new have not been activated. The flooded batteries at B+ are activated when you buy them and the other ones are activated when they put them on the shelves and the top of the lines one come to the store activated and are fully charged out of the box.

BatteriesPlus 15% restocking fee on "most returns"

Moral of story: neither dell nor hp battery fit in the computers and battteries plus employees blamed the computers not the batteries.

My husband bought a battery for his hp computer nov, 2010 opened the package and the battery did not fit. We returned it to the store within the 14 days and they returned all of his money. I noticed that the package was already opened. I mentioned to the store the package was already open, the man stated that they open all packages. The battery did not fit. I returned the battery within the 14 days. It was the same scenario but I was charged a 15% restock fee that receipt stated "may apply".
Difference - man got all his money back – woman got 15% restock fee.
Store response: teresa walker co-owner, batteries plus 217/218: it is currently our company policy to charge a 15% restocking fee on "most returns". This charge is indicated on the bottom of all sales receipts. Also, whenever customers bring their applications into the store, we make sure the battery they are seeking actually fits that application. To do so, packages, to include laptop batteries, are opened. The practice of opening packages is not allowed per corporate return policy: product (S) must be in unused, unopened (my package was already opened) and resalable condition.

BatteriesPlus rip off

My experience with batteries Plus started when I called the store to see if they had a replacement battery for me Dell D820 Laptop. I was told yes that they had a replacement battery made by Rayovac COM10005 for $115.99. We drive 30 minutes across town to purchase (2) Rayovac COM10005, for my Dell D820. Once we get to the store the young lady that I spoke to on the phone were busy, so the manager Ken waited on me. Ken the store manager charged me $125.00ea., and then I said no I was quoted $115 over the phone. He went on to tell me that I was quoted the wrong price, until I told him by law he had to sell it to me for the price quoted. At this point I should have known that, there were problems to come. For 2 weeks with this new battery, now my laptop is turning off with no warning. I took it back to the store that was closer to me, only 15 minutes away. I walked in and the manager Ken that over charged me is now at this store. I told it that there is a problem with the battery and wanted a refund; he refused to give me a refund. I asked for an exchanged and he refused an exchange as well. He stated that if there is a problem with the battery, which he needed to send it back to Rayovac to have it tested. I asked at this time what do you expect for me to us meanwhile, he said oh well. So I asked for the 800-number and he said why do I need that? I called the 800-number and they called Ken the store manager and told him to replace the battery. She told me if the laptop still shuts down it could be my laptop. Since I use this for business, I had to call dell to get them to replace the motherboard and AC Adapter. After doing all of this I am back to the same problem, which a battery that doesnt do a full charge and shutdown whenever it feels like it. Doing this time pulling the battery out to reset the laptop the battery fell and has a very small crack but still works. Batteries Plus in Richmond, VA refuses to take it back, for a refund. I have called the 800-number for batteries Plus and they care less and tell me that the store is following company policy. We I am looking to sue batteries plus for selling batteries that have known problems that do not work with Dell Latitude laptops.

I've heard of battery plus in the past and always new that there was something unreliable, maybe it was gut feelings but, a few days a go, I bought batteries for my Garmin VivoFit Trainer. The batteries only lasted a day. I tried to return the batteries back to the Fredericksubrg, VA. store and was treated me like crap. They we're rude and whey they tested the batteries they failed. I asked for a refund and they said they could not even though their policy say they would provide a refund as long as they have a receipt and it was within the time limits stated in back of the receipt. The employee and manager only offerred a replacement. They didn't follow company policy as stated and very unprofessional. The batteries were only a like $7 dollars but, I wasn't concerned about the $$, it was the principle. I WILL NEVER BUY A SINGLE THING FROM BATTERIES PLUS AND THEY BEST BELIEVE ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE INFORMED NOT TO SHORT THERE. TOO BACK THE BBB DOESN'T LOOK MORE CLOSELY INTO THEIR PRACTICES. WAY TO GO BATTERIES PLUS!

Actually, any customer would get much better service if Keith Eigler the incompetent, stupid idiot didn't work anywhere near a battery store. Him and his ugly monster of a girlfriend pretty much do a daily brief walk-though of the stores and act like they own the place, which they don't. Keith doesn't work. He likes to pretend like he works. He basically just rides from store to store complaining about how much his monster of a girlfriends' body odor is that particular day. He also likes to give customers a hard time.

he knows nothing about batteries or how to run a store, he dresses extremely funny, and he smells bad.

I came here for a battery review, and instead I received the complaints of a disgruntled, poorly informed customer who deflected his/her problems on the store and its manager. All Rayovac-branded laptop batteries sold by Batteries Plus carry a full 1 year warranty. Some testing is required for warranty, but can usually be accomplished quickly in-store with the customer's cooperation. Batteries Plus also offers over 300 stores nationwide to service any warranty needs.

In addition to the initial decision to exchange the untested battery with a new one, this customer was notified the morning of the 28th that we would refund his money in full. Both decisions required the approval of either the owner or myself, and were not within the authority of the store manager. This was done despite the more than minor physical damage to the battery. Our goal at Batteries Plus is to offer exceptional customer service at all times.

Any of our customers in Richmond or Charlottesville, Va with any complaints or concerns regarding the service they have received in our stores is welcome to request my e-mail to contact me directly, or can provide the store with their contact information so that I may contact them.

BatteriesPlus poor service

GolfLogix GPS-8 unit quit working. Contacted their support by email, they wanted it sent in to diagnois. Got RMA on the 17th of Nov. and sent it in by UPS on Nov. 18. I inquired again on Dec. 9th because I had heard nothing for 3 weeks, they answered back on Dec. 11th and said it was forwarded to a manager and they were going to check into it. I inquired yet again on Dec. 18th saying I would just like to know one way or another if it could be fixed. No answer so I sent complaints to all department I could find listed in the Garmin Company and I got back so CYA excuses and finally an email saying it couldn't be repaired. It took 34 days to determine that it could not be fixed and that was only after extreme pressure was applied! Not a bad product but terrible customer service.

BatteriesPlus terrible experience

I bought 4 separate 6 volt golf cart batteries from Batteries Plus in Tucson (Wilmot Location). I have them tied in series in a 24 volt configuration for a special solar application. I regularly check the status of my batteries and make sure they are always charged and maintained properly. One of the four batteries began to have a diminished capacity. When the other batteries where at 6.2 volts this one battery was at 5.8 volts. There is no reason for a battery in series with other batteries to be unbalanced unless it is bad.

I took the 1 year old defective battery back to the store where I purchased it and they said they would have to fully charge it before they could test it and I would have to leave the battery overnight. I called the next day and they said the battery was fine and I could pick it up. They had charged it for over 10 hours with a 40 amp charger. When I picked it up I asked them what the battery voltage was and they said "6.5 Volts". I thought that was pretty good and I was pleasantly surprised they were able to get it charged. A fully charged 6 volt deep cycle battery should read about 6.35 volts fully charged and almost 7 volts if it just came off the charger. After I put the battery in my car, I tested it with my own volt meter and it was only at 6.1 volts. I went back inside and told them that it was only 6.1 Volts.. They said "well it passed the load test so its fine". The problem is that a load test is not the same as a capacity test. Also they refused to do a hydrometer test because they said it would be inaccurate because I added distilled water to the battery, which may be true, but that doesn't mean that the hygrometer test should read dead.

I attempted to prove my point and explain that the load test is not the same as a capacity test, and they refuse to understand what I am saying. In fact, they kept saying things like

"whatever.. I guess you know something about batteries that we don't".

"here you go, you battery is charged and ready, you can come pick it up any time".

"I've been here for 10 years and I think I know what I'm talking about"

"Your volt meter must be bad".. Note: My volt meter is $400 certified calibrated fluke meter... EXTREMELY ACCURATE

"its over 6 volts so its charged"

and my favorite:

"Whats the difference between a load test and a capacity test!? There is no difference".

The entire experience was dreadful. All they did was talk to me like I was stupid and treat me like I didn't know what I was talking about, but in fact, they didn't know what they were talking about... Either that, or they didn't want to warranty the battery. Now, I've made several trips to the store (40 miles round trip each time) and walked away angry each time. They are rude, a-holes and scammers. I still have yet to know if they will warranty my battery, but even if they do I will never buy from them again... not because of the defective battery (that is expected to happen occasionally with batteries), but because of their lack of knowledge and rudeness towards me.

I know all of this might be a little too technical for a lot of people to grasp the profoundness of their errors, but please believe me... Me and my fellow engineers just laugh and cringe when we talk about this. Batteries plus Tucson location on Wilmot is STUPID.

That comment is very enlightening. I purchased a 12 V battery for my motorcycle in April 2013 it is now August 2013 and that battery will not start my bike. The lights will come on but I found out that the CCA'S (cold crank amps) for my bike should be 190. The battery that they sold me only has or is supposed to have 185 cold cranking amps. I discovered that my bike was not the only one having that issue. A friend of mine owns the same year, make, and model motorcycle as i do and purchased the very same battery and experienced the exact same problem. Frustrated doesn't even describe what I am right now. I just want my money back. I will never recommend any of their motorcycle batteries to anyone I know.

I had the EXACT experience with them. Their batteries are refurbished, and already at diminished capacity when you pick them up off of the shelf. I had a bad motorcycle battery, and they insisted that the battery was working properly. When I explained the capacity vs. load to them the scoffed, but i explained that capacity was the reason it read 12volts but wouldn't fire up my bike. I explained that I wasn't interested in a battery that read good but only powered the lights on my motorcycle, i paid for and demanded a batttery that could charge to capacity and actually fire up my starter. Then as a kick in the balls, they said that they would replace my battery with a brand new one from the warranty, and gave me back my OLD BATTERY! As if it was a psychological issue with my motorcycle, and telling it that the battery worked would make it fire up. good placebo!
They were rude, dishonest, [censor], and I am with you, I will help spread the word of my experience and hopefully stop others from getting scammed by this horrible business.
Thanks for your post.

BatteriesPlus Defective product

Purchased Battery for riding mower in late January 2008 which supposedly carried a 3 year warranty. I was advised by merchant to take battery out of mower until mowing season which would lengthen life of battery (my last battery lasted 3 years leaving it in the mower). In early May 2008, battery was taken out of laundry room, installed on mower, but the mower would not start. Battery was taken to Auto Zone for overnight slow charge. The following day, the battery would still not start the mower. A new battery was purchased from Walmart, installed on the mower, and the mower started on the first crank (no wonder why these little guys are going belly up).

I was accused by the vendor of abusing the the unit causing the warranty to be void. No explanation of how this could have happened, no credit for the unit, just a " so sorry Charlie, but Thanks for your $35". If their products require a more temperature controlled environment than a laundry room. IT SHOULD NOT BE SOLD IN COLORADO!

People...batteries do not keep themselves charged! Just because you bring a battery inside for the wintere does not mean you do not have to charge it! Batteries loose up to !% of thier charge A DAY (if left connected in a vehicle) and up to 0.5% of their charge a DAY just sitting (in a laundry room). When a battery discharges, Sulfation occurs and your battery will be come weaker and weaker. You MUST keep the charged at all times when not in use or your battery will never be 100%

well actually a load test is the same as a capacity test...what do you think you are testing when you draw a load on a battery? you are drawing a certain number of amps for a duration of time relative to the cranking amperage. if you run the load test at a lower amperage for a longer amount of time (which is the proper way to "load test" a deep cycle battery, you can get pretty accurate results. For a car battery (starting)...you may test it at 400 amps which is somewhere near 800 cold cranking amps for 15 seconds to see if it passes the test. On a deep cycle battery the same size, you can draw about 50-100 amps for a minute or 2 and see if the voltage drops below the recommended voltage on the load tester. The only way to TRULY test a deep cycle battery is to take the amp hour rating of the battery...which a golf cart battery is near 200AH and take something that draws a certain load...say a 6 volt light bulb that draws 5 amps for example. You then divide 200/5 and figure that the light should run for about 40 hours. SIMPLE! Batteries Plus stands by their warranties, the batteries just need to be properly tested before they give away FREE product or else anyone could walk in and say their battery is bad every year. So in their defense, they are just doing their job. No way to change physics that I know of, unless maybe the guy above me is Einstein. Anyway, have a great day.

I just experienced a similar situation. I purchased the best available battery from Batteries Plus in Dewitt Ny for my waverunner last year. The OEM battery was in the unit from 2003 to 2007, that's 4 years. Purchased last year, I talked to the manager and said I wanted the best. The Batteries plus unit was there most expensive maintanence free battery, and died one year later. Stored inside in a garage and charged over the winter. Spoke to three people at the franchise today and dissapointed with the company attitude overall. I don't have my reciept, and that's the bottom line.

Not that it matters but I'm 50 years old and have purchased many batteries, also I have three kids own a business and would never be spending the time writing this if it wasn't a matter of principle.
