This gym infuriates me. Not only did they not honor a free pass I had after they said they would (I read the fine print; it should have been honored no matter what), they charged me more than promised after I signed the contract. I asked over and over about the price before I signed, and was promised over and over it would only be $37 for two months if I chose to cancel. Pffft, it ended up being $37 a month!
This, along with the disgusting gym conditions, led me to cancel. The cancel "promise" was simple: talk to a trainer and go to the gym at least 17 times in two months. During the two months, I ended up not getting a promised job and didn't have a car, so it was tough making the 17 times but I did it. However, there were AT LEAST a total of six times where they did not swipe my membership card despite my asking. They said I didn't need to, even after I insisted I did. All the same, since I went the required amount of time, I followed the cancellation procedure.
I sent them a letter like they asked, said I was canceling via the "promise", and thought that would be that. I wasn't happy about losing money, but I was so angry with them at that point that I just wanted to be done with it.
A month later, they denied me cancellation, claiming I had not fulfilled the promise. I was beyond angry, and still am. I sent them another letter, this time through certified mail, ripping them a new one and saying I wasn't going to pay them one more red cent. I also said I was moving, because I did, and that they would have to cancel via the moving clause (I moved to Nevada, they have no Bally's there). I received no reply, but they call my old address everyday. I have emailed them many times to get them to stop and at least call my cell so they can leave the other tenants alone, but no dice.
I have referred many people away from Bally, and most of them don't want to join a gym at all because of what happened to me. I am worried about being sent to collections and having my credit score ruined, so I am still trying to figure out how to make them stop and do what was promised to me.
