Texas college sued by students for misrepresenting that it would become accredited
Dallas, tx - august 7, 2009 - several students have sued argosy university, which is an education system of education management corporation (nasdaq: edmc) in dallas county district court, alleging that the college lied to them in order to get them to enroll in the college. argosy university is a for-profit college. plaintiffs were students enrolled in the school's psychology doctoral program at argosy's dallas campus. at the time plaintiffs were considering enrolling in the program, school officials told them that the program was in the process of obtaining crucial accreditation by the american psychological association and that the program would become accredited before the students graduated. as a result of these reassurances plaintiffs enrolled in the program at significant personal expense.
The lawsuit alleges that during the students' enrollment in the program the school indicated on numerous occasions that the school was actively pursuing apa accreditation. in reality, the school had not begun to secure accreditation, and the students ultimately graduated from the program without the program ever obtaining apa accreditation. julie johnson, plaintiffs' attorney, explains, what sets this case apart are the blatant and repeated lies told by school officials: "when students expressed skepticism about the school's progress toward apa accreditation, the school dismissed these concerns as baseless 'rumors' and perpetuated the sham that it was in the process of pursuing apa accreditation."
The school's repeated lies, claim the plaintiffs, have significantly hindered their ability to repay the exorbitant student loan debt they assumed in order to attend the college. johnson explains, "even though the state of texas does not require a degree from an apa-accredited college for individuals to practice as clinical psychologists, the reality is that in this competitive job market, most employers require apa accreditation. those that are willing to employ clinical psychologists that have graduated from non-apa accredited institutions pay them significantly less than they would pay a clinical psychologist that did graduate from an apa-accredited institution." this, plaintiffs claim, has left them saddled with unserviceable student loan debt and dashed dreams.
Attorney julie johnson often represents students in texas deceptive trade practices and consumer protection act, fraud, and breach of contract cases against proprietary colleges such as argosy university. to contact julie johnson, please call [protected], or send her an email at [protected]@vanweyjohnson.com. for additional information about julie johnson and her other areas of practice, go to http://www.vanweyjohnson.com/.

Unfortunately, I am crying speared milk again, but someone needs to speak for me. Argosy has broken its promise, but it has offered nothing more than a great deal less...that it's more geared to your education level. I guess many of those attending had autism spectrum disorders, Asperger's or schioaffective disorder--I'm just speculating. Although Argosy U had good representation of quality educations, it's staff, professors and employee showed a different outcome of what the school stands for today...high way robbery.

A company going by the name of "Gigats" had placed an ad seeking employees for a warehouse position on Simply Hired. As their ad made me believe that THEY were the company that was hiring I applied. After ignoring 3 emails telling me to call they called me today. I was told they were a hiring company who does the seeking for you while being careful to select only jobs that will work for you. They then transferred me to a company that wanted to talk with me about completing my degree, which I stated I needed to do but was not financially able to. After nearly an hour of talking to me; without getting only my phone number, address and email address which are on my resume, they attempted to transfer me to yet another school called "Westwood University" which I then declined to continue the call. At that time, they agreed to call me back tomorrow. After I got off the phone, with my head spinning from the information overload, I began searching for more information on all the "company" and"schools" I found in one search on Bing a large number of negative feedback and only the "company, " "schools" and their representatives giving "positive" feedback. At 31 I learned a lesson, no matter how much of a hurry you're in, ALWAYS do your research BEFORE you share your information with a company or school!

Ok so I started argosy in feb. This school lied to me, and was basically trying to get money. They lied to me. I started the clinical and forensic psychology program. Comes to find out after they got my loan, and then told me that nothing is credited, so here i am with a 5, 000 loan that i have to pay for a course that i did not need. the classes that put me in after i started were already on my transcript that they have of mine! Then i check my fasa yesterday and they have charged me for three semesters, i was no longer attending argosy for the two semesters that they got money for. And i am trying to appeal paying back this loan that they had me take out, because they lied, this is fraud! and not fair to me and or future students! the more research i have done the more stuff i am finding out about fraud and lies with this school! so i checked my fasa and my loan was a total of 15, 000 something, then i emailed the college and told them to call me asap, i have left messages, i left emails.they refuse to respond. So i called the company that i borrowed from, they then told me that the school must be on to me, knowing that i have contacted authorities and other people, and now my loan has dropped to 4, 000 something.so DOES ANYONE KNOW A LAWYER TO CONTACT TO HELP ME DISPUTE THIS MONEY THEY ARE CLAIMING I OWE!

According to the APA's Web site, several Argosy clinical psych programs are APA accredited. http://www.apa.org/ed/accreditation/programs/clinical.aspx Why would it be unreasonable to assume that the Dallas campus would also be pursuing accreditation?
