Canceling a contract
Complaint Rating: 100 % with 1 votes
Company information:
American Laser Centers
Orem, Utah
United States

I recently went in for a free consultation (because I had won a 300 certificate in a drawing)... I ended up signing a contract for 3000 dollars in laser hair removal. I was told i was ''taking out a loan''- when it was actually A Credit Card... As soon as I left I realized that I could not make the payment the coming month (laps of judgment) so i went back in to ask them if I could get out of my contract-2hrs after singing this contract they would not let me out of it. They said they had to charge 15% of the total fee for breaching the contract with the bank who I took the ''loan''(credit card) out with. So i called Care credit and they said they DO NOT CHARGE American Laser for a refund. After being lied to, they wouldn't return my phone calls w/in 3days There is Rescission Law... you have three days to reverse your contract(buyers remorse) if you haven't had a treatment-and if you did not approach them... meaning you didn't come in for a consultation on your own... they called, emailed, etc. So I went in twice during these three days and I was told they couldn't do anything, that corp. would contact me. - Nope, in the end I ended up paying the 15%..Basically these people will rope you in, sell it to you, and lie to you while(for lack of better words) screw you.

This is almost an exact replica of my situatution! I too "won" the bogus $300 credit toward a service at a local event in FL. They told me to come in on Saturday to get an extra $100 off a service, but I had to go in that day. 5 hours after agreeing to financing for $2200 for 60 months, I found that I was not able to commit to the contract and emailed the clinic manager my issue - no reply. On Monday, I left 2 messages, with no return call. Tuesday, I spoke to someone who said the manager would call me back. She didn't. I called again at 5 pm and they told me to come in Wednesday at 6:30 to discuss my issue. Wednesday, the manager told me she had received my email, but couldn't call or write me back because her regional manager was there, which makes no sense. After finding that there was no way I could afford their services I said I wanted to cancel my contract (at this time, this falls within the 3 day no-fault cancellation). The manager tells me I need to pay 10% of my amount financed ($220) because that's what Care credit charges them for cancellations and no matter where I went, that is a common business practice. What a lie! I called Care Credit myself and they told me they had no such policy! So the manager, neglected to contact me in a timely manner, she LIED to me, and never gave me any documentation of this policy, nor did she mention/warn that this is their policy, even when I had asked about it.
I am fighting this by going straight to corporate, and filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of America. I refuse to pay anything to this con artist company, especially because no services were rendered! This is wrong and illegal in so many ways, and I advise anyone and everyone to steer clear of this company. Protect yourselves!

To all posters,

I represent American Laser Centers and we apologize that you have received a delayed response upon contacting our customer service team.

As we recently expanded our customer service team, we are fully committed to answering your request for assistance in a timely manner.

This is how our process works right now:
When you call our customer service hotline at (877) 252-2010, you are directed to an automated voicemail. At the voicemail, please leave your full name, spelling of your last name, phone number, services received, and account number (if available).

Once we have this information the customer service department will gather background information about your service history from your clinic manager and our data systems. We need this information to be informed about your needs when we talk to you and to make any necessary action on our end happen as quickly as possible.

With the exception of the weekends, this information gathering process will take approximately 48 to 72 hours (if not sooner) until you receive a personal phone call back from our customer service team.

Please understand this process expedites our ability to resolve each issue. We appreciate any and all feedback and hope this helps clarify any concerns about the automated voicemail.

Thank you,

Nicole

This is MY MANUAL BOOK FOR KICKING ASS AGAINST AMERICAN LASER CENTERS:

In May 2008 I went to American Laser Centers in Santa Rosa, California.

I was told about this company because my friend gave me his $300 coupon he won at a fair.

Long story short. I too signed the contract. The next day I was feeling I was being charged too much for only 6 appointments = + $5, 000

I talked with a friend who said you should not be paying in advanced.
His example was: If you go to the dentist, get a haircut, dr. appt = you pay as you go-- NOT in advanced.

I called to cancel my laser appointment. No work or services were ever done to me.

I was then told I had to pay the 10% administration fee. (I was furious! = + $500)

I told the laser people under the California law according to the “State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, The Consumer Transaction with Statutory Contract Cancellation Rights there is a three-day no fault cancellation.”

American Laser Centers would NOT honor this Law!

I then consulted my friend who is a business person.

That DAY I DID THE FOLLOWING—

This is The MANUAL BOOK FOR KICKING ASS AGAINST AMERICAN LASER CENTERS:

(REMEMBER: ALWAYS BE professional and business like in your letters.)

10.)I went to Small Claims in my area for extra help. Do a Google search with the name of the county of the state that you live in and “small claims” for the location. BRING ALL YOUR PAPERWORK including your contract!

MOST IMPORTANT: Keep copies of all your letters, your certified mail receipts, correspondents, emails…!

Good luck! Think positive!

P.S. At first I did not want to write the letters. I was feeling like I was causing too many problems. That was until I was told I had to pay $500 + for no services or treatment.

Do your BEST!
