I too received an email from AIL claiming they got it off of Monster.com and that I had just what they were looking for and could potentially make more than $60k in my first year. Intrigued by the salary, I followed the lead further.

Luckily, I did more indepth research on AIL since their company website had minimal information. I stumbled upon this website and found over 50 statements. I was so shocked to read what others went through because I heard much of the SAME EXACT dialogue from the HR representative who I spoke to. I found it odd that he told me that I should "dress professionally" and that I should bring in "a crisp new resume." When I spoke to the HR Rep at AIL, I asked what the job title was and he would not answer that question directly. He only beat around the bush by saying we will train you to be a manager. Like so many others, I was told to plan on a 2 1/2 hour interview. They are reading off of a script!!

After reading the messages posted, I decided that I would never have anything to do with a company like this and called to cancel my interview. When I called, I could not reach the HR rep NOR could I leave a voicemail. The receptionist took down my message. I read this same scenario on another woman's posting. Fishy, huh??

My advise to others: DON'T GO THROUGH WITH IT. I'm so happy I never went through with the interview.

Carlsbad, California.

Paul Lund,

Paul,

My name is Trinity King. Although my name should be irrelevant but for some reason you seem to think that just becuase you post your actual name, this makes you credible. It is just a name. As for the above post regarding the AIL script, it is the same one they've been using for at least 10 years. You state that you worked there for 7 years, yet have never seen it? You also say that you left over three years ago, but are still on here defending a company that you no longer works for? Who does that? Are you sure you worked there? And "First -Class conventions?" I don't think so. I too went to a few of those and a trip to a hotel in Beverly Hills does not qualify as "First-Class." Funny how I don't remember seeing you there.

AIL uses shady at best sales tactics (or pitches) to get their agents into people's homes. Once there, they are sold an over priced policy that the statistics show won't stay on the books for more than a year. So you can talk all you want about how you still get renewals and AIL is the best and so forth and so forth. But the fact remains, you too decided to leave, yet still come on here defending their practices (and for some reason feel its necessary to have someone's name). Why is that? Do you want to go back? I'm sure they'll hire you. You only need a heartbeat, and a name to work there.

DeAngela R. Osborne, it's nice to see someone that actually knows what they are talking about list some facts instead of hear-say and opinion. It doesn't surprise me that someone as well informed as you are had no problem listing your name and standing behind your statement instead of simply slinging unjust accusations from the safety of anonymity.

I have read through blogs and blogs and blogs from people that thought that they were misled into an interview that was going to be a "real job". I personally thought so myself when they contacted me out of Goodlettesville TN. However I knew that when I left that building that first day that it was a commission only position but I was intrigued by the benefit package itself as well as the lead process. I researched the company itself as a company and was further impressed. I moved forward with obtaining my insurance license which does nothing but further my career opportunities, so what that they didn't pay for it, it's mine, I own it and can use it anyway I choose whether it be with AIL or somebody else. I was approached one afternoon in a Super Cuts right after my test and right after my first visit with AIL by a gentleman that overheard me telling the girl that I just got my license. He worked for New York Life as an agent. He very, very much so wanted to give his manager my number and I got a call from a man named Shayne 2 days later for an interview. I would guess that the guy that approached me may get some type of "recruiting" something off of me, I don't know, but I assumed he would. Why else would he have approached a total stranger in a Super Cuts in the aggressive manner in which he did going on and on and on about NYL. I went and interviewed with NYL and determined it was not for me. I had no desire to cater or sell to persons that are already filthy rich, they don't really need me. As I a sat across from the 30 year old "partner" in all of his incredible arrogance in his high dollar suit and gold cuff links, I did not like the guy. I thought he was a jerk. But it would take a jerk like that to cater to a filthy rich business owner looking to "hide" some money. He let me know that they pay high dollar for their leads and that when I "cold call" these people I would know everything about them. How much income, what they paid for their home, DOB, etc. He then informed me that to be considered "full time" I had 45 days to sell 6 policies. I found that to be just plain tacky. He then lead me to a computer in a tiny little cubicle in the very very back of the mass fancy building by an exit door and told me to take my little "hamster test" online and when I was finished I could exit out of the building "here" as he pointed to the door under the exit sign. I was thinking, seriously? This is just plain tacky. He was a smooth talking, overly aggressive twerp and although I am quite certain that he would have hired me I emailed him and copied in the original guy with an incredibly appreciative email extending my gratitude for his time, etc that any normal human being would have sent a response back to. I got nothing. Because I am incredibly green in the insurance world, I want to know about the package itself, not the employment opportunities or lack thereof that people may feel. I have been able to pull up both positive and negative. Personally comparing this package to policies that I have been sold over the years I find it to be well worth the dollars paid. Again though, I am as green as it gets in this new conquest of mine. Somebody please prove me wrong. I have seen some people saying that AIL has an F rating through the BBB so I looked here

http://www.bbb.org/central-texas/business-reviews/insurance-companies/american-income-life-insurance-company-in-waco-tx-35384

I see A+. Somebody please guide me to this F. I have wanted to back out due to some of these blogs but will stay in just because I am finding very positive things about the company as well after digging deeper. At the end of the day is the package presented to these families horrible, that is what I truly want to know. I can't find anything saying that it is. I was looking for a job after walking out of a job after a horrifying merge. I tried to start my own company within the same industry and was immediately sued because of a non-compete. It is only good for a year and I will move forward with that. In that industry I was the person responsible for bringing in benefits for my employees and find this package that AIL is selling to be far superior to things that were being offered by others such as AFLAC etc. Somebody please prove me wrong on this, that is what I am asking. I am not afraid of hard work and sales if I truly believe in what I am selling. Furthermore I will generate my own leads if I am truly passionate about the product.
So, please, for the love of Pete, somebody help me out and show me that the product sucks because for the life of me I can't find anything stating such. I have found a great deal of negative feedback from ex employees on the discount card so I decided to call around in my area. I went to http://www.findbestbenefits.com/
and entered promo code 849004 and did a search of pharmacies that take the card. 11 showed up in my area so I called and all of them acknowledged that they do in fact honor the card. I fail to see the negative here. I have several friends and family members who are self-employed and would find any savings on prescriptions to be of value. I myself plan to be self employed no matter what I choose to do and would find the discounts to be of value, self-employed folks don't normally have access to affordable programs of any kind. I saw one guy bashing the child safe kits saying the information can be put down on notebook paper. In hindsight, that's brilliant. But most don't. This is a vital reminder to them that they should as well as an opportunity to do so, so what's the harm? As well as the family info guide. Most don't have this info handy so it seems to be a vital reminder as well and an opportunity to do so so again, so again, whats the harm? And at the end of the day I'll take a free $2000.00 AD&D policy so again, what's the harm? The way that I see it is that people don't want to think of death and most go their entire lives without even getting a policy of any kind and reality is that the burden is left on somebody else. Nobody wants to discuss it but it is all too real. This is presented in a way that people can go, "huh, you know honey, we don't have anything". To me it's bullshit to put the burden of your death on others and everybody should have protection in place. What do you care when your dead that your family, be it your mother or father, siblings, whomever, had to take a second mortgage to bury your ass and take care of your personal affairs and children and/or spouse that you left behind, YOUR DEAD. So again, somebody please show me where what AIL is offering to people is bad. And as far as the argument of just tucking the money away yourself, again, hindsight. Not to mention that if you tuck 30 bucks away in 2 weeks and are killed in an accident on that second week you've socked away a whopping 30 bucks to take care of your affairs.

The job isn't for everyone NotForMe. I don't know what office you work out of but I ran 4-6 appts a day, 4-5 days a week and a few extra on Saturdays. I averaged around $3000 ALP per week and I was always in the top 25 producers in the company. My wife and I also went to multiple conventions while I was there, two of which I received awards at. While I was doing this I was also building an agency from scratch which is still there today and going strong, even though I haven't worked for the company for years. I notice many of the complainers here say they were having to be deceptive with clients. That is probably why it didn't work out for them. I was extremely honest with my clients which I'm sure cost me many sales, but my honesty is the reason most of the policies I placed are still active today and my renewals are secure.

To fail3, all salespeople in every type of sales use some sort of sales pitch. You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Also, if you want to attack someone like you do, have the courage to post your own name. Especially if the person you are attacking is using theirs.

Actually the script shown is the exact one I used. This job is tough but they also make a lot of empty promises like you only have to do 20 presentations a week. That was a total fabrication I have to work every day of the week and I can't stand that. I make decent money but not a lot. I just have trouble really believing in this product. Don't get me wrong their programs are pretty nice and affordable for a lot of people. The insurance isn't the problem the problem is with the "managers." Most of the time they are extremely unprofessional then tell the rest of us to act professional. I am currently looking for another job while I work with AIL. I guess you can call me lazy but I usually run about 6 appointments every day I have just become extremely tired do due 10 hour days for 7 days a week. In the past 2 months I have had about 5 days off. I drive about 5 hours a day and do about 7 hours of presentations then there are those booking nights which are extremely unproductive. This job isn't for me I guess. I didn't go to college for 4 years to work 7 days a week. I mean you really can make a lot of money doing this job but some people are better fit for this job than others and I guess I'm not one of those people but that sure as shit doesn't make me lazy, I work my ass off and just don't see the results I want. I hope to find another job but this job is good just not for some people.

To fail3:

When you resort to name calling and foul language you are showing that you have no valid points to make. Your made up name suits you, coward.

To Paul Lund above:

You are a complete liar. Every SGA has some form of this script. This is the Altig version and since that is the largest agency, I would imagine you have seen at least some form of it before. It really hasn't changed it at least 9 years or so. Regardless, you already admitted you used "a sales pitch" and since all AIL offices have to use a script we can also assume that your full of sh** much like any one who works for AIL.

I worked out of the L.A. office for 6 months. It's true that they sucker you in by "showing" you how easy it is to make six figures, just 5 average sales of $60 montly premiums, per week, and you will make $100, 000. They lead you to believe that this could be done by working only a couple of days a week and the other 5 days are yours. You quicky find out that the 5 sales can take up to 60 hours to make and if you are able to make those sales in a couple of days you are expected to work all 7 days. You are also required to meet at the office 1 day a week for "phone night" to book appointments. Phone night is about six hours long and on the average you book 3 appointments, which makes it a total waste of time, since you are not being paid to be there. Some agents phone night was on Sunday. Some employees are required to show up 3 times a week, from 7:00 am to 10:00am to call clients and book appointments, this is in addition to phone night. Agents that are interested in promotions are also required to interview potential agents, again not being paid to be there. Most of the training is done by fellow agents, even agents with a little as a couple of months are expected to train potential agents. On the good side if you are successful they do pay well, with an exceptional bonus incentive program. They also provide you with about 30 leads a month, of which about 20% are spanish speaking only, yes very frustrating. I would estimate that less than 5% of agents stay there for more than a few months. My work environment was very unprofessional also, vulgar language, and alot of  sexual inuendo.I could go on and on but I'll stop there . It's not for everybody but for a few it's a great way to make money.

The script posted by AIL Cautious is exactly what every AIL rep that either sold us insurance or tried to sell us insurance said, practically word for word. We wouldn't do business with AIL again for anything - not even for pet insurance.

Great post, AIL Cautious, and no, those sales tactics are not ethical or even honest.

"After I got hired I was given the script that all AIL agents are REQUIRED to use."

This statement is false. Maybe the agents working in the particular office you were hired at are required to use this script, but in no way are all AIL agents given this script. In fact, this is nothing like the sales pitch I was taught or the one I taught to the many agents I trained years ago. Most offices, or territories are owned by entrepreneurs operating as independent contractors. They are all different. If you didn't know this, then you never really worked there.

I am currently contracted with American Income. It is a lot of work and time, however it is not a scam by any means. I cant say that I agree with the hiring process in some regions or whats done by some managers. But if you are hard working, self motivated, and dont just give up when there is a bump in the road, it is a great company with good values and lots of support. I help families on a daily basis and enjoy going to work everyday because I can make my own schedule, am my own boss, protect children and families and can earn limitless amounts of income...you will get out what you put in.
To anyone who says differently or quits within the first few months, you are obviously not right for the position or the company and should consider a 9-5 salary job elsewhere.

To lovemylife808:

Normally I would reply and point out all of the areas where you are wrong, rude, completely stupid, etc. But I think you showed everyone here how an employee of AIL really thinks. So thank you for doing that for me and I feel sorry for your kids that they have a parent like you.

I work for the company, and both sides have points. It's not easy making it in insurance, period. All insurance websites will promise the world and all will have disgruntled workers. It's a sales job, in sales management. If its not for you, then its not. If it is, it is. Right now i'm pulling in 1000 a week working 40 hours. And i like my job. I've also made 3000 in a week, and i've made nothing in a week. This job has ups and downs, but i can make my own schedule, and that is awesome. But a steady paycheck and normal hours is awesome too. Every company will have bad and good experiences. You don't know which one it will be until you try.

Got a call this morning from a "recruiter". I knew from what was said over the phone that the first place I will be checking was Google.. And Wow! exactally what I expected. There is thread after thread, just like this 1, stating all the same information. Problems and misfortune, people that have been douped by this company and felt like making this information available to us all. And for good reason...

Then I read some of the comments from the employees of AIL.. Can someone explain to me why EVERY SINGLE one of these people feel the need to attack the others that have commented about there bad experience?

Such rudeness and fowl language is in no way helping make your beloved company look better.. Especially to those of us who are well aware of the intentions of these scam artists... Needless to say I will be cancling..

I just received a call from "Sasha" (male) from this company who said the same lines as everyone else has been posting on this site..."we saw your resume on Monster", "our managers wanted to meet with you Thursday of this week or Tuesday of next week in our downtown LA office, please call our HR department when it's convenient for you at 323-938-7686". The number that showed up on my phone was 323-938-7637. I decided to look up both numbers using a reverse phone look-up online, only to find that the first number was registered to a user who had 6 relatives associated with him/her. Suspicious. The second number turned up as a residential number listing people whose names definitely were not Sasha, and being residential, not an American Income corporate number. Suspicious again. There was no mention of what position the interview would be for, no mention of a website to look at for more information. Then I decided to look a little further into the company and found them listed over and over again on websites revealing companies running scams and implementing unethical practices.

Thank goodness I did my research first. And thank you to everyone who posted details about their experiences with this company. There is a difference between not being able to handle the stress of a challenging job and being taken advantage of. People do not take the time to write long posts about a bad job experience where they leave because they can't take the pressure. They write paragraphs detailing their horrible experiences when something is actually wrong with the company.

And keep in mind, these posts are anonymous...you don't know who could be writing the "positive" comments. It could be any executive from the company who has a lot at stake and a lot to lose if people start educating themselves about American Income before committing to work there.

AIL independent contractor:

I feel sorry for you. I am not surprised though, that AIL would take advantage of such a vulnerable mind. That is after all how they remain in business. It's like a revolving door, this door just happens to take 6 months on average to realize that life is better on the outside of the door.

"You guys are a bunch of lazy, untrainable, bastards who just don't want to work for a living. " Oh, the mindless defense of the standard issue AIL pawn...

"Lots of money doesn't just come to you unless you inherit it. " Do you really believe that statement??? Not only is it idiotic but, assuming you mean all wealth is inherited, it is mathematically impossible for all "lots of money" to be inherited. Sure some people inherit a "lots of money" however, if they are complete morons and only spend it and will it away again, it will all end up back in the system, most likely in the pocket of a savvy business person or, complete dirt bags, like the Execs at AIL.

"I am a mother with 2 small children, a husband, and a full time college student, and I work full time at AIL. All I have to say, is if you don't want to commit yourself and invest in your own future, it's your own loss." Congratulations on spitting out a few kids, I hope they learn from your mistakes. Working for any company is not investing in your future, it just pays your bills until you find something else. I don't just mean AIL either, this goes for any job where you work for someone else. Oh, and why would anyone care about what a college student/mom/new employee has to say about investing in future???

"It's not AIL's fault that you don't have what it takes to do the job. Like my RGA said, this job weeds out the losers and keeps the survivors." What your RGA said, was exactly what he needed to, so that you stay around as long as possible before you realize the mistake that you have made. Your RGA is a salesperson, and you are a consumer bringing in more consumers to the revolving door. You can only parrot what your "boss man" says. You have no substance to your argument.

"This is all intended to see who can survive, and quickly gets rid of the losers." Well, that is a half truth. A company exists to profit. AIL's purpose is not to get rid of losers. It is to find people who can generate profits for as long as possible, if that person stops bringing in customers for any reason, they move on to the next unsuspecting person with their sales pitch. No one wins with AIL.

"Step up your game, have faith, and commit yourself to 55 hours a week of training for 6 months. Yes, you do make a lot of money. I make almost $1800 per week now, only working about 30 hours a week. I figured it, that only about 1/500 people actually make it in this job...meaning lasting more than 6 months. All the rest of you are gone for a reason; because you can't handle the fury! Continue working your "jobs" and good luck in life" You don't believe that working for AIL is a job??? You are a contracted employee. No different than a new car salesperson at a dealership. By contracting you the company avoids paying you until they have to, thus they can hire (contract) as many people that they can get to sign the dotted line. Those who don't do anything cost the company very little in time or money. It's not a bad way to have people work for a company, as long as the company is ethical. If your relationship with AIL ends for any reason, guess what... you will be looking for another JOB. AIL independent contractors are still only employees. They are just expendable employees.

So, AIL independent contractor, good luck with your new AIL job.
