A man, name unknown, stating he works for Americal Credit Legal services, has repeatedly called me at work at busy hospital, where I am not allowed to take personal non emergency calls, and no matter who answers the call, he makes lewd, degrading comments about me, with sexual innuendos and tells the person answering that I am a very bad person and have committed fraud. I have no outstanding debt, have not been involved in any type of fraudulent activity. His repeated phone calls and sexually suggestive coments are the most vile kind of harrassment and and are disruptive to my coworkers and interfere with patient care. When I looked for the company on line to initiate a "cease and desist" letter, they are not even on the web except for the numberous complaints -- How does a company like this continue to be in business?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Sadly, they are doing what a LOT of 'debt collectors' do. The tactic is simple, and sadly, effective (it the unsuspecting consumer doesn't know their rights). They will try to embarrass or humiliate you into paying a debt (regardless of it's yours or not) just to make them go away. The fact that they are telling anyone other than the "debtor" about this 'debt' is against Federal law (FDCPA). The sick, demented statements to whomever answers the phone is equally against Federal law. It's ironic that they use the term 'legal' in their name. Try to get an address the next time they call. You can have everyone (who answers the phone and hears the statements) to make notes. These notes can be used in a lawsuit with them. I used a consumer attorney in my area who is affiliated with the National Association of Consumer Advocates (www.naca.net). They specialize in dealing with debt collectors and can help put a stop to the garbage you are being subjected to.
