Alpha Ecological Lack of service

Alpha Ecological service rep came to my house and I agreed to have him spread what was needed to control carpenter ants. He said there would be a follow up every 3 months to make sure it was effective. He quoted a price and I agreed. He was there 50 minutes, did his job. I signed contract. Later I noticed he had marked "1 time" that I didn't see at the time of signing. I called Alpha thinking I would get a partial refund from the $334 charged. Was told I would be called back. Never happened. I called a week later, talked with 3 people and was told that nothing could be done and that I must have misunderstood. I never would have paid $334 to spread some ant powder. I could have done it myself. Anyway, this company is not a good one to work with. I feel like I've been robbed and there is nothing I can do about it. I hope this warning will keep potential customers away from them.

Alpha Ecological Pest Control

I have been a customer of Alpha Ecological for the past 6 years for pest control services on various properties I own in the Portland area. I have seen an overall decline in tech professionalism and knowledge as well as courteous office support staff. The mission has really changed from providing a professional service to remedy problems and put people at ease to profit generating and sell sell sell. The last time they came out the tech was about 19 years old and was very clumsy with the equipment and seemed to have no clue what he was doing.
I called Green Choice. Very straightforward fee for service. Funny that the very professional tech was a former Alpha Ecological employee. I guess it is a good lesson for them that if you replace all competent experienced staff with teenagers trained in sales you will see customers leave.

I would NOT recommend this company to ANYONE! If I was smart I would of looked up complaints! They are not rated low at all with the BB web-site! I have spent over 400.00 Still have a problem, he has been here 3x, He has yet and will NOT go down in the scrawl space under my house where most moisture Ants are in almost all cases ! He shinned a little pin like Flash Light, and said he didn't see anything! I was TOLD when I signed up they would do all of it spray in side and outside! (Obviously I went to see him as he was at my neighbors spraying her garage for Ants and told him I had them inside)! first time he was here he never even sprayed in the house? My husband and I and I sat down with him and told him what we were seeing, paid 240.00 + 59.00 to spay a application, Then second visit I pretty munched begged him to spray inside, as I was still seeing Ants Sprayed last month, he seemed bothered that he even had to come out, and re-spray 3rd time, As they were coming from under molding in bathroom! Talked to Customer Service and stated I can't figure out WHY he won't go under the house to spray, she gave me NO real answer! I have read more complaints about this company on SO many other places! If they DO NOT COME OUT and SPRAY like he promised I will be filing a complaint with the Attorney Generals office, BB, and a law suit, which I think with so many complaints a Class Act lawsuit should be started, I HATE to see others to get scammed Or Prey on the elderly! Please comment on this post! I would love to talk to someone in Vancouver/Portland area! Please just write after I do! Somebody has to stop this company from falling Victim like some of us already have!

I know how you feel. We have been quarterly maintenance customers with Alpha for about 4 years and we are seriously thinking of switching companies. We have regular carpenter ant maintenance, and when a new ant problem developed, it has been like pulling teeth to get it taken care of. Every time I call the company (4 times over the last month), I have to remind them who we are, what the problem is, why we are calling, etc. Each time they send someone new and we start all over, reminding them what the problem is, where the problem is, who we are, etc. It's been a real downer working with this compnay, and I feel like if they are going to treat me like a new customer everytime I call, I might as well be a new customer with someone else. I'm completely fed up.

Alpha Ecological Too expensive and poor service

My husband and I are military leaving soon out of state and needed to clean our air ducts and have our crawl space inspected for pests. Inspector guy comes out and goes down into the crawl space and comes back with pics of proof we had a rat. So, an initial air duct cleaning (est $300) turns into him having to go to home depot to buy air duct replacements and rat bait/traps. I ask him how much will it cost for that? He says $975. I was like ok, i think i will wait until he gives me the " I came all the way down from Seattle and am not leaving" bit. Basically, bullying me into telling him go ahead and fix it. Before he leaves i confirm with hubby over the phone the quoted price, which includes the air duct replacement and rat traps. After the replacement of the air ducts and the rat traps are set, he says he cleaned up underneath and presented me with the bill. It came out to be $1, 320.69! My hubby was home at the time and was furious! Luckily, i had some money to pay the guy but it was stretching it. Come to find out, when we were replacing some cable wire underneath the house the inspector/tech had in fact NOT cleaned up any insulation chewed up from the rats or their remains and feces. This weekend another inspector came out to QA/QC the previous tech's work and told him about what he did. He was nicer, but said he could not do anything about the price and if we paid him he would clean up the mess the other guy did not clean up. So, we said no thanks, we are not shelling out any more money than we have to. For the amount we paid, the guy could have least cleaned up the crawl space! Air ducts are still dirty, so definately going with someone else. Don't use these guys and heed these complaints!

I paid them to do some work on a rental property while I was out of town. They did the most basic work for a really high price. Not the work I expected at all. I could have done better or paid someone a lot less for better work. I would be careful of what they describe to you and what they actually do and be mindful they charge a lot for everything they do or suggest to be done.

Alpha Ecological poor service

My husband and I were having problems with ants and were interested in an environmentally friendly way of taking care of them. We called Alpha Ecological and bought a guarantee service for 6 months. According to the salesperson, after the initial payment, any remaining treatment would be free. The first treatment went well and the service man was very nice. After about 3 weeks we had more ants than ever and called back to have someone come out. We were told that seeing more ants is normal and that we couldn't get more treatment for 60 days?!? This was the first we had heard of this. We called back in another week because I had found the original invoice and saw that it said we could get re-treated after 30 days. The customer service person was very rude and said it didn't matter what the invoice said they wouldn't treat for 60 days. She told me it was probably our fault that there were more ants. I finally called and threatened to call an attorney. Then they set up the re-treatment. Now more time has past, we still have ants, are out a lot of money and the company is completely unhelpful. No apologies and no service. I want to warn others against using them. Once they have your money they don't care what happens.

Being in the business of pest control myself, i have to disagree with both of the previous comments. The residual effects of the products used take time. It does not happen over night. In fact, you as the customer have to have patience in order for the process to work correctly. The chemicals have to be tracked back to the ant colonies in order to eliminate them. As i mentioned before, this takes time. Sometimes six weeks, sometimes 45 to 60 days, depending on the size of the colony, and how far away it is from your home. I would not expect anyone outside of this feild to understand this immediately, due to the fact that they are NOT trained proffesionals.

I too had an unfortunate experience with Alpha ecological sales practices. I was PROMISED by the sales guy that after the initial treatment, any follow up treatments would be initiated by me. This has turned out not to be true and Alpha just showed up, sprayed outside and then left an invoice on my front door telling me I now owed then money...and for what? They did nothing indoors, just outdoors - but charged the same. When I contacted Alpha directly about this they were rude and extremely unhelpful and tried to tell me that I had signed up for a monthly service and in fact that was a lie. They are practicing very poor and UNETHICAL sales practices at this business...and guess what...we still have ants...DO NOT HIRE ALPHA ECOLOGICAL FOR YOUR PEST CONTROL. You will be sorry if you do.

Alpha Ecological Never do business with Alpha Ecological!

I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and my husband and I have also written a letter of complaint to the company directly. We have had no response as of yet. I am trying to get this information out in as many venues as possible since what has happened to us is so appalling, I feel that others so know what they are getting into if they decide to do business with Alpha Ecological.

NAME: Alpha Ecological Pest Control
BBB MEMBER: YES
CONTACT: Ms Teresa Sickles
ADDRESS: 1200 NE 112th Ave
Vancouver, WA 98684
PHONE: [protected]
FAX: [protected]
Website: www.alphaecological.com

My Husband contacted Alpha Ecological at the beginning of March and set up services for them to come out every three months and provide pest control services. They charged us over $400.00 ($409.37 to be exact)for the initial visit, which was March 20, 2007.

They sent us a reminder card for our quarterly service on June 26. It said they would be out at 8am. On June 26th, they had not showed up by 12:30pm so my husband called them. The customer support person said that she was sorry and that they would reschedule for 1pm on Thursday the 28th and give us a $25 discount. On that day, at approximately 1:45pm, the service tech (a manager) called from Olympia saying he was returning from a meeting in Seattle and that he would be late. He arrived at about 3pm. He was complaining a lot about how far out we were and how they were not making any money on us.

Service was done within 30 minutes, where he charged us the full rate of $118.00. My husband mentioned the discount to the tech and he "flipped"; repeating that it wasn't our (the company's) fault, but they would definitely have to drop us as a customer. Almost immediately after that visit, we received a letter from Alpha Ecological that effective immediately, we were outside their service area and they were no longer going to provide services to us.

Frankly, we don't care about the second visit charge, but we do care that we had to pay so much for the first service (and they didn't follow through with their end). I would expect to get at least $300 back from the first visit, since they aren't continuing service. Any other service we move to is going to charge us the same inflated 1st visit charge as they did.

I, Andrea Foster, contacted Alpha Ecological on Friday, July 20, 2007 and spoke to Nick. I explained my complaint and that I expected at least a $300 refund. I specifically gave Nick my work number to call be back but he called me back on my home number and left a message.

I called him back today, Monday, July 23, 2007 and found out that he no longer works there! I spoke to another customer service representative and had to explain the situation all over again. She was surprised to hear that one of the technicians had been so rude and said she needed to talk with him and then call me back. She called me back right away and said that they were familiar with the situation and offered to pay for half of the last visit charge, which cost $118.00). The never did apply the $25.00 discount!

Beware!

This company is a complete scam. This company will charge you high rates and deliver no or minimal service. I am the Director of Engineering at a large resort in the Phoenix area and have dealt with several pest control companies in the area for over 20 years and Alpha in by far the worst I have come in contact with. If you do business with them now, check there work, if you are thinking about doing business with Alpha, don't.

I called Alpha Ecological to treat the eaves for spiders and inspect the crawl space. The tech said that there was 'termite activity in the crawl space. Quoted $1, 000.00 for containment.' He claimed he had a picture of the termites in our foundation but had trouble finding it on his camera. Later my wife suggested he probably got it off the internet.

The eve application was totally ineffective. When I called to complain I was told I should broom the webs down myself. I said, 'I thought that was why I hired you guys'.

I called another company to spray the eves and inspect the crawl space. They found no termite activity in the crawl space! If I was gullible and trusting of these 'experts', I'd still be dissatisfied and out another $1, 000. Stay away from these scam artists!

WHY were they using rat poison around your dogs in the first place? There are other ways of getting rid of mice that don't require poisoning. Trapping is the first solution that comes to my mind. Best wishes, and sorry to hear about your sick dog.

After a bunch of research and calls to various pest control places I hired Alpha Ecological to help with a mouse problem. Their website goes on and on about how they are leaders in the pest control industry using safe, non-toxic, natural, organic products. I voiced my primary concern about the safety of my dogs as I have a puppy and also a very crafty dachshund that can get nearly anywhere she wants to go. The people on the phone and the technician who came to my house assured me that the product was not dangerous to dogs. The technician also showed me the bait stations he was going to place in the house and in the crawl space under the house that mice but not dogs could eat bait out of. Well after my dog dug a hole under the fence and entered the vent on the side of the house (that I was wrongly instructed to leave open so the mice could exit) my partner went under the house to make sure she didn't disturb the bait boxes. He found one cube of bait out in the open and no bait stations whatsoever. I looked up the chemical used in the bait - Difethialone and discovered it is an even more sophisticated anti-coagulant than Warfarin which can cause death in dogs if untreated. You can read about it at: http://www.vetstreamfelis.com/ACI/October/VMD2/dis02574.asp I rushed my dog to the vet who confirmed that the chemical is lethal to dogs. My dachshund threw up a ton of the bait when vomiting was induced. They gave her charcoal to avoid any remaining poison from being absorbed in the intestines and she had to take the antidote Vitamin K for the next 30 days. This cost about $300 and a lot of stress not to mention any long term effects it could have on her liver. I called Alpha the next day and to their credit they refunded my money and sent a tech out right away to remove the remaining bait. He confirmed that the bait had not been placed in the bait boxes as it should have been. In order to pay for the vet bills they wanted proof that my dog was affected by way of a coagulation test which would have required my dog to go untreated and be showing clinical signs of distress which takes anywhere from 3-12 days. I requested that my vet write them a letter that the treatment she administered was necessary to save the life of my dog and that a coagulation test was not a logical option. At this point they begrudgingly paid my vet bill while still insisting that my dog could have gotten the bait from a neighbors house (even though what she threw up looked just like what was found under the house and their tech confirmed that one of the two blocks they placed was gone) and they still maintained that their bait is safe. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy as they are a bunch of filthy liars who puts our pet's lives in danger with their misinformation. I find it interesting that they advise consumers on their website to investigate other companies that claim to have safe non-toxic products and say they are "not being as transparent with their customers as they should be". Well neither is Alpha Ecological apparently! Though it is BBB accredited there have been 39 complaints filed in the last three years and from what it looked like on the chart, there is only one other pest control company with that many complaints. Please beware!

It all comes down to what type of ant is being treated. Different chemicals are used to treat different species of ants. Pest control techinitions need to know what kind of ant they are dealing with. Go to Senske.com and look for the branch closest to your area.

Alpha Ecological did a crawl space clean out to my house and sub'd it out to a local same-day labor group. The alpha manager left and had the same-day laborers do the work. When the work was completed the manager came back and explained the clean out had been finished. When my husband came home he checked out the work by looking inside the crawl space and NOTHING had been done. No new vapor barrier and no clean out was done. Still dead rats were under the house and nothing had changed. We called them on it and a few days later the work was *really* completed. Can you believe their nerves?! Will never do business with them again.

I agree. Alpha Ecological has exceedingly bad customer service. I just paid $589 for a five-year contract last July, and they won't let me take it to my new home. They also failed to send me a reminder card last spring, and by the time I remembered to call, the anniversary date of the contract had just passed, so I lost a whole year's worth of treatment. DON'T use Alpha Ecological. I never will again, either.
