Alibris Disappointed with Alibris: Poor Customer Service and Damaged Item

I just got my book from Alibris and it was wrapped in a flimsy plastic bag. I was excited to read it, but when I opened the package, I was disappointed to find a big dent and tear in the hardcover. I was really bummed out because I was looking forward to reading it, but now it's damaged.

I contacted customer service to see what they could do about it. They told me that I would have to pay for the return shipping, even though it was the seller's fault that the book was damaged. I was really surprised because most companies will give you a free return if the item is damaged. They only charge return shipping if you just changed your mind.

I was really frustrated with the situation, so I asked customer service if they could do anything to help me out. They said they would give me a $3 coupon to "offset" the shipping costs. I was really disappointed with this because it didn't seem like a fair solution. I feel like they should have done more to make it right.

Overall, I'm really disappointed with my experience with Alibris. I don't think I'll be using this company again because of the poor customer service and lack of concern for their customers. It's really frustrating to receive a damaged item and then have to pay to return it. I hope they can improve their policies and procedures in the future.

Alibris Alibris Review: Frustrating Website Navigation and High Shipping Charges

I gotta say, I had a bit of trouble navigating the Alibris website. I mean, I was trying to buy a movie - "Persuasion" with Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penry-Jones - and I ended up getting pretty frustrated. I wanted to add it to my cart, but then I saw that the shipping charge for a second item was over six bucks! That's just too much, especially since the first item I bought was only $3.99. I tried to get a cut-rate shipping deal, but it didn't work out. So, I ended up deleting "Persuasion" from my order.

But here's the thing - I really wanted that movie! So, I hope someone from Alibris sees this review and can help me out. Maybe they can fix the shipping charge error and get me that movie after all. And while they're at it, they should tell their webmaster to sort out the website so it's easier to use. I mean, it shouldn't be so hard to go back to the shopping screen after you've checked out.

Overall, I think Alibris has some good stuff, but they need to work on their website and their shipping charges. If they can do that, I'll be a happy customer.

Alibris Only received partial refund

Alibris stated that my book order was never processed because of "address issues". I have been doing business with Alibris for many years. I NEVER had an issue with my address! And no changes in address for last seven years. The book in question was supposedly from Albris itself, listed as "the seller". I now hesitate to purchase from Alibris because I only got the refund for the book but not for the shipping! If Alibris wants my business in the future it needs to refund the shipping since it WAS NOT SHIPPED. The "bookseller" IS listed as Alibris according to the website. Why would Alibris still mention the book is still for sale on its website and that it is still available FROM ALIBRIS for the exact same price I paid? What gives?Alibris advised me in an email to try another bookseller on their site yet still advertises the book from Alibris itself. Like I stated previously, I have bought dozens of books from Alibris for years and never had an issue with my address. What's the problem with Alibris? I sent half a dozen emails with no response. I tried their"phone service" with again no communication. From appearances, it looks like Alibris can "sell" a book with shipping charges; and to make it look legit just refund for the book, then keep the shipping charges. A perfect scam.

Alibris Hitler's war volume 1

I've ordered this book on March 11, 2022. The order# is [protected]-1. Almost three weeks has gone by, and I did not receive the book. I've tried to contact the seller, which is Discover books, but the seller never reply to my request about this item. I've tried to contact Alibris customer service, but this dept. is not helpful either. They never resolved the problem.

I haven't had any with Alibris till now in this order. The book is quite expensive and I want an answer from Alibris if they want to prove they're are a good, scrupulous business. The seller of this book is not an honest one I believe since he/she never replied to my email requesting info on the shipment of this book. No tracking number provided. I did requested this but no answers.

Alibris Dishonest business practices

One of my orders, I only received 1 out of the 3 items I ordered. I know they were all in the same shipment because it was the same tracking number.

My other order, I revived both items, but I also received an extra item I did not order and do not want. You are all shady thieves. I will stick with EBay, because they provide seller accountability.

Alibris Underhanded and false communication tactics

Please know that the people operating this business and website:

#1) continue to use underhanded and false communication tactics to make themselves appear legitimate,

#2) manipulate every communication to appear good for their image,

#3) will continue to manipulate the truths - my personal experience and so many people you see on here - except the naive and false people.

Conclusion: do not risk your money buying anything with this website or business. They have no responsibility and are willing to lie to you (and everyone!) with their communications. They clearly lied with their communications to many people that you see on here and they will continue to do this. Be warned: do not use or buy or have anything to do with the people from this website!"

Alibris Service refund not full refund when they sent wrong item

Ordered a book and they shipped a compact disc. Email is only option to communicate with them. They took back wrong item sent but would not refund the shipping back I spent to get wrong item! I returned the wrong item and am out the shipping fee's both ways to correct the mistake they made sending wrong item. Do not order from this company read all the negative reviews on the internet. Had I read the reviews I would not have ordered from them buyer be aware same time and disappointment.

Desired outcome: prevent others from ordering and having problems with this company

Alibris Extremely reliable books seller

REF ORDER No.: [protected]
I wish to file a complaint regarding this seller. The order clearly states that the item will ship directly from the seller. It did not in fact ship from the seller - the seller took my order, then turned around and ordered it from a 3rd party seller ship it to me. Because this order took over 3 weeks to get to me I did some research and found another copy to purchase. Interestingly enough I just so happened to order my second cd from the seller your seller ordered the first cd from! Now I want to return the cd and your seller is asking at 15% restocking fee (which I feel I do not owe them because the item was NEVER in their possession). I plan to file a complaint with my credit card company as well.

My order stated it would ship directly from the seller it did not therefore I'd say that I was lied to and mislead.

I've been attempting to get information on how to return the cd and have gotten all sorts of excuses including "we need to pass this along to our refunds department please allow 48 hours" - a week later.. oh we have a problem with our computer system and couldn't print your return label please allow and another 48 hours"

Alibris books/music cd's

Earlirer this year I ordered 4 CD. s of Collabro's which cost me over $100.00, at that time. I received 2 of them. and Alibris kept my money for the other 2 CDs I gave them a good bit of time to rectify the situation, they never did. I complained to them directly, and they adjusted my credit card balance, and asked me to give them a second chance which I did.
I re-ordered the 2 Collabro CD's that I didn't receive the first time. The balance was over $50. AgainI received only 1/2 of my order. I am still waiting for my other CD, and they still have my money. I want my CD/Collabro Road to the Royal Albert Hall. I think it is time to contact Better Business, and the Attorney General's Office within the County that they reside. I am sick of this.

Alibris dvd not as advertised

"Caro Diario (Dear Diary)" DVD was described as region 1 (for US players) in the details of the listing and showed a picture of the DVD that was made for US release (yellow cover, English translation, although I based my purchase upon the written description of the listing, not the photo). I received a Korean region 3 DVD with a white cover and a big label warning that it will not play in the US. It was sent by Half Price Books. I filled out an online return form, only to find out that I will only be compensated for shipping with a $3 coupon for Alibris. I do not want to order from Alibris ever again. I will file a complaint with my credit card company. I should receive a refund for the DVD plus a refund for all shipping charges. I do not believe this was an accident. I live in Iowa and the DVD was shipped from Coon Rapids, MN. It would be unusual for someone in my area to want a Korean DVD.

Alibris one book was missing

I have ordered two books from www.alibris.com and arrived only one. When I contacted customer service they claimed that they shipped two books. I told them that there was only one book in the package and demanded a partial refund but they refused. I contacted them many times asking for a refund but hey did not believe me and literally called me a liar. I'm so frustrated and disappointed abut this. Never again I will order something from these cheats!

Alibris long delay of delivery

I was a seller for this organization. I shipped books the same or next day. However, they would pool international deliveries at their warehouse where they would sit and gather until sufficient were accumulated to ship en masse. Delays would be more than a month. Just from Texas to Canada, it would take more than a month. That's plain ridiculous.

Meanwhile, I would get a complaint from the buyer assuming I'm the party at fault. I had to explain to several buyers how it worked and apologize for Alibris' horrible business practice and its effect on the buyer.

I would receive negative feedback and have to get Alibris correct that feedback and add a note stating I was not at fault. Unfortunately, such is not looked upon well by customers.

The only solution is for Alibris to drastically increase shipping speed or provide the funds for the seller to ship the book direct to the buyer.

Alibris none delivery of book order

I ordered for a book, "Handbook of Tribology" online and fully paid with my credit card since mid-February. I received an email notification from Alibris CS that my book order was shipped February 27 and will be delivered March 17, 2011. Not receiving my order after March 17, I emailed Alibris but was asked to wait until 30 days after the shipment date (being March 29) afterwhich if not received they will fully refund me. I have email correspondences to this effect. I have emailed Alibris on March 29 and 30, notifying them I have not received my book order but so far their CS prefer not to respond. I earlier requested for their phone number, but none was given me. Now I am confused, sad and disappointed. If I know the appropriate Govt. Authority to complain to, I will hastily refer my complaint.

Alibris scam and fraud

We placed an order with Alibris for three books on 12/8/10. We never received the first two items; we received an incorrect book for the third. We immediately contacted Alibris, followed their instructions and returned the book to them. We received an email yesterday stating this seller has denied our refund for the book we returned.

We have tried repeatedly to work with Customer Service to resolve these issues, to no avail. We have filed claims with our credit card company, and now intend to go forward with any and all legal means at our disposal.

Alibris fraud

My story: I wanted to order as many hardcover copies of Hermann Hesse's works as I could find, and Alibris offered many. I ordered about twenty or so. One, in particular, Narcissus and Goldmund, was listed as, "Hardcover: New, New, Great Conditon." I paid $37.00 for that one book, plus a shipping charge of $3.99. What I received was a yellowed, worn paperback copy from the sixties--something one might find at a garage sale. Alibris and I traded numerous emails because I discoverd that there was no way to contact them by phone, and they refused to call me, though I requested a call back, leaving my phone number with, at least, two people in my emails. I was shocked to find that they did not even have a record of the sale! They told me to go to Google and find it myself. When I could not find it, someone at Alibris, finally, sent me a copy, but all it said was Alibris and the name of the book. No details--just the title of the book along with Alibiris, Alibris, Alibris repeated over twenty times: no book seller's name, no price for the book, and no shipping charge. Please know that if you need to return a book, for whatever reason, you, the customer, pay for shipping--which I did. When I complained that I should not pay for returning a book to a bookseller that was, obviously, a scam, at first, they stated that was there policy. After a few more emails, I was told that they would pay for the return shipping. Needless to say, they never did. I returned the worn paperback copy of Narcissus and Goldmund to a bookseller in New York City that offered only a PO Box and no phone number or email address on its "receipt." I even offered to accept the hardcover edition that was described on the Alibris site from that same bookseller because one of the emails Alibiris sent to me stated that "even a bookseller makes a mistake" now and then. I discovered that this was no mistake. The so-called "bookseller" never contacted me, even though I sent a letter with the book when I returned it stating that this transaction might be a "mistake, " and they could send me that hardcover edition that it lists on Alibris. I wanted to return other books because they were in paperback or not in the condition described on Alibris, I even was sent a dust jacket with no book, but paid for the book. Only yesterday my credit card company finalized the the payback. Caveat Emptor!

I would be suspicious if it said 'great condition'. Doesn't that imply someone's already licked the icing? Anyway, 'new' is subjective. Get the specs on edition date. Those guys at alibris have been drinking. You have their address? Pay a visit. Booksellers are normally harmless drudges, and most of them only respond to physical force.

Alibris product never received

On 12/23/09, I placed an online order for a book and received confirmation of my order(#[protected]). I was charged for the full amount $62.24 but never received the book. I tried to contact the seller several times and, on 4/13/2010, received an email letting me know that another copy would be shipped. However, I have never received the package. Alibris is telling me that, because the issue is so "old", it's ok for them to keep $62 (I checked I was charged but not reimbursed)... Isn't that considered theft?

Alibris refund shortened

I ordered a book from a Canadian seller, Aldresbook to be delivered to a Canadian address, 60 miles from the seller. Alibrist first requested additional $3 for shipping costs on top of $11 already paid then the book never arrived. Alibris partially refunded yhe missing book for the cost of the book but decided to not refund the shipping cost of $14.

I advise buyers to avoid Alibris at any cost - this is a dishonest retailer.

I going to said the same of the other.Please be careful when placing order with alibris. They are extremely slow in shipping and sometimes they claim that they have shipped, but the item will never arrive. The only offer a refund after 1 month of waiting and not receiving the item. Not to mention, they immediately charge your credit...

Please be careful when placing order with alibris. They are extremely slow in shipping and sometimes they claim that they have shipped, but the item will never arrive. The only offer a refund after 1 month of waiting and not receiving the item. Not to mention, they immediately charge your credit card even before shipping it.

I strongly doubt their practices and I would recommend everyone to shop somewhere else.

Alibris pending status

I ordered a book from NOMADE BOOKSTORE through ALIBRIS on Dec 15th, 2008. Until today, my order status is still pending. The expected arrival date of the book is on January 16th, 2009. I doubt that they can deliver the book on time if the status is still pending until today. I am worried that they are not going to send the book at all. If they did not send the book, I will report them to the authority for doing a fraud. They have taken the full amount of the order total value from my credit card on Dec 15th, 2008. I am totally disappointed with them because of this.

Alibris fraudulent book description

The book I received from Alibris.com was a disgrace.
The book’s condition was described as follows:
“Very good condition Good dust jacket.”

The book I received had:
*Mold on the inside cover and many of the pages
*Wavy pages from water damage (68 of the book’s 168 pages were wavy.)
*Several torn pages.

The book never should have been sold in the first place because it was in such poor condition.
Alibris' $3 coupon on my next order to help cover return shipping costs means nothing to me because I won’t be ordering anything from that company again. Instead, I will be filing a complaints with the Better Business Bureau and Colorado Attorney General.
