Today i received a recruiting phone call from ail, also going by american income life insurance saying they were responding to my submission of a resume to them, which took me off guard because i actually had submitted my resume to many different places and was not sure of all the jobs i had submitted for. So eager to find a job with a layoff 4 weeks away, and this being my first call back about an interview so far, i continued the conversation. It struck me as extremely strange how quickly the "hr rep" said his company's name and his own and moved right on to asking me a couple of "preliminary interview" questions about a supposid management position for this new office they had in central pa. I found it to be extremely weird that he was at all pleased about my rushed, taken off guard - type answers i gave him, and how quickley he said "great, we'd like to have a sit down interview with you tomorrow at 10:20 am". Eitherway i agreed, and came back to my desk in which i explained to my fellow co - worker what had happened, and he let me know that it was an insurance sales scam that he had gone through 9 years ago, and his story was exactly the same as all the other complaints you will read on this page. Also, some things to consider about positions like this are door to door sales jobs in which you are an independent contractor, meaning ail does not have to pay you benefits, and also that anythign they will pay you in the first year will be taken out of any income you produce on your own. I. E. You make nothing. All of the people i see on here defending the company are obviously working for the company to do just that, try to dispell the truths about the company on blog pages like this. If you are a salesman with this company and you actually think you are going to rake in the money and retire at 40 as i saw one person write. . . I would say that maybe you should comment on your status after you have been with the company for more than 2 months. . . "they sold you and you just haven't realized it yet!" these guys are wolves in sheeps clothing. I concluded my 1 / 2 hour long experience with this outfit by calling back the # provided to me to reference if i had any questions (Which of course went to a generic voicemail with no prompts) and let them know to lose my number and resume and that i didn't appreciate the phone call or misleading approach they took. I pray that someone responds to my voicemail by actually calling back so i can really sound off.

I Received a call too scheduled appointment 10:20Am (MST) / Boise, ID.
American Life Income is what the company is called or I might have it backwards. Either way I was shopping for food, the call had come in around 4:30pm, from James Horn: 208.344.3774 - James failed to state the company name, I have been unemployed for sometime and didn't care where I got a call back as long as I got a call back. James started asking questions such as help desk and other information about helping people, towards the end of the phone pre interview James, asks me to get a copy of my resume, assuming James is staring at my resume during the pre interview call, it made no sense. I need a job so I scheduled the interview, I tried to obtain my resume through the library as I don't have a printer in home, which the library was closed, I tried to call James to let him know I could not bring my resume but I wasn't going to miss my interview over a resume, he already had there was no answer just a voice mail that finally stated the company name "American Life Income", so I got to thinking this doesn't seem right, I call my girlfriend who was at home on the computer and had her type "American Life Income" and she stumbled apon this website, so I turned around, skipped my interview and wrote this letter for you people out there to understand that selling insurance is a total bust, you don't want that type of job. Be-careful who you hand your resume out too on craigslist!

-Someone Like You.

I also received a call from AIL (American Life Life Insurance). The individual that call stated his name was William. He explain how the company was expanding and needed additional manager for a new office opening up in the Kansas region. He provided the following phone number of [protected] and the address as 235 Southwest Noel Street, Lee Summit, MO. I was asked a few questions about my management experience and I began to wonder about the questions. William was quick to ask if I could attend an interview. He stated he could schedule on on 1_26_201 at 09:15 AM. I decided to check out the Better Business for information about the company and found the following phone number listed: [protected] (no answer) and [protected] (number set by AIL to fast busy). I also decided to Google "AIL"and found this link. Also before I forget, I also have a resume on Career Builder and this was also mention where they go my resume. I seems they like to pray on individual who are seeking jobs. I did call after reading these comment to cancel my interview (number: [protected]) and the representative asked why would I want to cancel my interview. Also I would like to thank everyone who posted on the forum and help me from making a big mistake.

I also received an email from AIL. I caught them red-handed lying to me. I asked why the email said that they "...were having trouble contacting me." The lady said said someone tried to call. NOT TRUE. Also, it's funny that they tried to contact me anyhow because my resume screams that I am looking for a job in the scientific field. The email said that "...something in your resume attracted us to call you." (Paraphrase) AIL has been in business so long because because they attract masterful cheats and liars.

I received the same phone call on Monday and went into the interview the next day. The interview the next day was a large group interview with many potential employees. After they tried to "sell" me this great career that will at least be paying $60, 000 salary, with union benefits, I started thinking about this opportunity, too good to be true? It also is true that the first couple of weeks you will need to get a state license to sell insurance, which you will have to pay out of your own pocket. You will have to get training during this time, as well as study for this test, without pay. They want you to meet with 20 clients a week, they do give you the leads, and continue training 2 or 3 days a week. I figure all of this too add up to about 70+ hours a week, working probably 6 or more days a week, combination of both selling and training. (Hope you don't like spending time with your family LOL). Another weird aspect of this is when you go to make a sale they want you to ask for a canned food donation, to give to laid off or striking union members. How awkward would that be after making a sale for about $300 a month from this family and then asking for canned food? C'mon man! I like to give to charities but not to ask middle class families that I'm selling a product to give up their food. You would think that these salesman making $60, 000 minimum a year can just donate to these less fortunate union members and not ask their customers to give and take credit for it. On top of this factor, with most companies like this, it will have a high turnover rate, so you better be able to sell some insurance. This high turnover is backed by their fishing type hiring practices, contacting anyone with a resume on the web, and the numerous potential hires they bring in at once. I received a call later that night saying that I was selected as one of the hires for this company. This surprised me because I have an accountant/consultant background and have no sales experience, except a high school job at Ace Hardware. I also only spoke with one of the associates for about a total of 2 minutes 1 on 1 which would give them very little knowledge of me or my background. I wondered how many people received this great news that they were being hired, they only said they hire 3% of the people interviewed, highly doubtful. I respectfully declined the offer after I received an e-mail from a company with a real interview for a staff accounting position. Bottom line this is not what I was looking for in a job and would have researched this opportunity if I could have understood the name of the company from the voice mail. If you like to work 6+ days a week and think you can do this job well, go for it. If you don't think you will be capable of this schedule or a good pitch man you will be looking for a new job a month later, down a couple hundred dollars, with a piece of paper that will allow you to sell insurance. Good luck on the job hunt everyone!
P.S. Just because this is a successful company that makes money and has successful employees, doesn't mean that they treat all employees well.

Just received a call from a gal named Jamie stating she got my resume off of Monster. Said pretty much what everyone else has stated. wanted to set up an interview for tomorrow morning, but I could not so she said that we could set it up for next week. When I asked what the job entailed, she stated that it is a managers position and I would be training and mentoring people. They clearly were email harvesting because if they would have read my resume, they would have seen that I would not qualify to make the GREAT money they advertise in the area they are in.

I received THE CALL today at about 1:30 p.m. today (11/23/10). Said she got my resume off of Monster. I asked what does the job entail? There was this long pause and she said, "I don't know, what does that mean?" I asked what was the job's responsibilities. She instead said they offer benefits, including dental, health, pension, etc. I said, before I make a trip up to Camp Hill, I have to know what the responsibilities are, since my wife is partially disabled and I have to plan any jobs around that. And then she hung up.

Thank you for all these postings. This is an example of the best of the Internet.

I received a call just this morning from [protected], from a Loreen? My answering machine took the call and I could barely make out what she was saying and had to replay the msg 4 times just to get the phone number she left for me to call her back [protected]) When I called I did reach Loreen and she sd the company name so quickly I could not understand and she went right into asking me a few questions about my previous job and what I did.

After answering every question she asked she seemed to have that "I don't really care" tone which made me VERY suspicious of the whole thing. She asked if I could come in for an interview @ 9:50 the next morning and that I would need a "fresh" copy of my resume, casual dress code, and a few refrences. I asked her for the address and she gave it so quickly I had to verify it with her several times. I asked if I could do a later time and she sd she could squeeze me in at 10:20am.

I then asked if I should ask for her directly when I come in for my interview and she sd I could but to tell the receptionist that I am here for the 10:20am interview and it maybe her or another H.R. person that does the interviewing...once again the struck me as strange. After that I googled the address and both phone numbers and this site came up. THANK YOU GUYS FOR BEING HERE!

Of course I am not going to call them back til after my scheduled interview time so I can waste some of their time as they waste ours!

Exact same call, exact same number: [protected], from a Marie Newton. She never even mentioned the company name in her voicemail message, but asked that I return the call at [protected]. After googling both numbers, I was directed to this site, which was a heck of a lot more informative than their ridiculous message. I called them back at the number that called me [protected]) and said a "Marie" called and that "I am no longer interested in a position".. she said "Marie.. hmm, I don't now anyone here named Marie, what is your name?", I gave her some bogus name and hung up. RIDICULOUS!

I received a call from "Laura" saying that her boss was very interested in interviewing me and said all the same mumbo jumbo about unions and such. I had a feeling it was a scam. This is the office in Minneapolis. The thing that really caught me off guard was that I had to enter a code into a panel to get into the building. Thank God I came across this site and I thank everyone who has posted on here! I am canceling the interview I have scheduled.

I received my call from "Juanita Barron" (or at least I think that's her name as I had to replay the message 10+ times in slow motion to try and understand what the hell she was saying) in the Seattle area today. It was a very weird call as 1.) I had never applied to a company called AIL. 2.) What sort of HR person would speak so fast that you couldn't understand her? 3.) Who only works until 2P.M. Monday-Friday?

Anyway - thank you all for the posts as I don't want to waste my time/resources going up to Seattle for joke job-offers. Best of luck to all of you looking for work and I hope we all find jobs soon!

Warmly,

Kris Johnson

Damn, glad to see all these posts, I actually received an email stating they reviewed my resume and I passed their preliminary requirements or whatever.

I kind of already suspected the scam with the keywords "sales" and "Compensation is on a pay for performance basis."

Happy to know now that I was right. Thanks to everyone for the stories; 100% Scam job.

Inate77 is right, I also got a call from them in Seattle today. After talking with the agent through a vague phone interview, I set up an interview for tomorrow morning at 10:30am. I'm so thankful for this website or else I would have wasted my time and a dreadful commute through morning traffic. It blows for the people that have posted and were taken advantage of. Another scam company to watch out for in Seattle is Emerald City Marketing. Here's the email I was sent after the phone conversation about the interview:

Hi! I enjoyed speaking with you earlier. As discussed, you have an interview scheduled with us in our Tukwila office.

I have included my contact information below and attached directions. Any further questions feel free to contact me. We look forward to meet you.

Warm Regards,

Well, well... got a call from Bob Drescher this morning (9/15/2010) who was very eager to have me come in for an interview tomorrow at either 9:45 or 10:15 (first warning bell... how are interviews scheduled thirty minutes apart supposed to end hours later?) and I admit, I was excited, though wary. After his brief explanation of the company and a couple of simple interview questions he had me scheduled for 10:15, and it wasn't until I hung up that I realized I pretty much knew nothing about the position or the company. THANK GOD FOR GOOGLE. Although Googling AIL brought up respectable web pages and such, they listed NO offices in Camp Hill, PA, so I decided to try just Googling the address, and this was the first page to appear. Yes, I have the same address and phone number everyone else did, though no one's mentioned a Bob Drescher yet, guess he's the newest lackey. I read this board, called back and a Richard answered the phone. I told him I was calling in reference to my interview tomorrow, he asked who I scheduled it with, I said Bob Drescher and he said "Oh, okay, well let me go find him for you..." I cut him off, saying that I only wished to report that I would not be coming in now that I was aware of their unscrupulous business practices, told him to have a great day, and hung up. I'm halfway tempted to go up there around 12:00 tomorrow (when the interviews let out) and hold up a sign that says "If you feel as though you've just been had, you have" and list this website, lol!

Recieved the same call today 9/13/10...So apparently these a**holes are still at it...These job boards NEED to do a better job screening people that want to get our information. So frustrating and irritating what some companies will do to earn a buck...Careerbuilder...Monster...No class selling to scammers and crooks...

ok, SO i recieved an email first from the compay, i didnt respond to it. Then I got a phone call this morning. I was so excited because I had been job hunting for awhile now and I wanted to make sure it was something that I wanted since I had been at my current job for the last 7 years. So they asked me the interview questions and after I agreed to the interview tomorrow at 10:15 they sent me an email stating:

It was kinda weird. So I did a yahoo search and found a ton of complaints. I also recieved another email the same day from someone different stating the same thing:

Hi, my name is Chris Hernandez and I am a State Director for American Income. I saw your resume on the internet and felt that I should contact you immediately. Our company currently has openings for several outstanding individuals like you.

If you are an individual seeking a financially rewarding position with a company that is part of the Torchmark Corporation (TMK), a company that truly believes in honesty, integrity and trust, then I would like to speak with you.

I was on Craigslist.com looking for work this morning and saw an Ad for a customer service sales rep here in Boise, ID. But there wad no company name just the person to call and his phone number, Glenn Woods [protected]. I called the number anyway to see if I could get the company name and of course the person didn't answer but his VM gave me AIL as the company name so I googled it and low and behold, here was this blog posting. If you look down on the page you will see another person posted, I think their name was boisejobsearch, she posted this same number but with a different persons name. Also, she mentions that she called the number back and it was no longer in service. IS NOW, stay away from this ad, it's a total SCAM! People are having it hard enough in this day and age to get jobs, why do people have to do this kind of crap!

Wow glad I read this comment page! Just had a very similar call from an "HR Manager" named Cammi. She called from a cell phone and instructed me to call that back. The only interview times available were at 10:10 a.m. She immediately asked me to come in and interview for a manager position, knowing that I had no relative experience. it felt like a scam, but wasn't sure, so I just looked it up on Google.com and the very first link was a complaint.
Thank you for your posts!

I had gotten a call from this company a month or so ago saying they had a job for me and the job was managment could i come in for an interview i neeeded a job real bad. I came in with other people and we did a group interview. He told us how this job would be management in HR and we would interview people and be hiring people. So I took the job, so eager to have anything so silly to think that they were honest, they were responding a little too fast and it seemed to good to be true.
When i cam in for my first day I thought some paperwork, and office type things. But no...they had sent up this cubicle which was called my "offie" and then sat me down and gave me a script saying I had to make these many calls in so many days. Basically the script was me lieing and trying to be as aloof as possible about this company and what they do. noone calling you is a manager and there is several people sitting in little cubiciles all saying the same exact thing. this company is full of liars and scam artests. I got sick from having to talk for so long and make so many phone calls while sick i evaluated these people and this job and realized that i was being scammed into trying to scam others for them i was nothing more than their putz. so i quit, and it has been several weeks and they have still not made me for the month i work there. I will get payment from them soon or a lawsuit is coming their way.

I received a call this morning from some lady who spoke really fast (sounded like Heidi Taylor but who knows really) and was from the Camp Hill location. She told me it was a labor union type thing. I wasn't sure what to think about it considering I never submitted anything to them; she told me she got my resume from CareerBuilder so I talked to her anyway. (I'd really like to know how sketchy places/people like them get resumes and fool people with this crap). I Googled them and surprise, surprise: the very first thing that pops up is this board...three pages long no less! What's even more sketchy is that the company does not seem to have a website period. Do not call or answer Heidi [protected]. Everything about this company is a total scam. Unfortunately that's also the case with a lot of companies these days so be careful! When in doubt, use Google! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences with this. Good luck with job searches.

I also just received a call and found the questions and lack of response alarming. I jumped on the internet and guess what, I was right, something was not as it "seemed". It was hinted at that management would be in my future. I am typing this from Boise, Idaho. The lady I spoke with was Kenna. Interestingly enough, the number she called me on no longer works. The number to reach her on is another guys number at AIL. It is obviously a scam preying on those eager and in many cases desperate to find employment. Don't answer/call back: Kenna -[protected], [protected]. Good luck with the job searches!

I DID fall for this SCAM ONLY because the "recruiter" James Horn, at AIL Boise, ID had told me the day before that it was an hourly position where I would only have to speak with US Military Veterans in their home to explain their benefits to them for the policies they already held. Upon arriving at their office, they sat me down with some prelim questions then scheduled me for a follow up interview an hour later. Thinking this kind of strange, I went in a little bit leary only to find I was in a "group interview" raising my suspicions even more. THEN when they slipped a motivational DVD into the player I texted my fiance asking him to look up AIL on the internet. His reponse was simply "Walk out". Seems he went through the same BS interview a couple of years back. In my opinion, who would want to work with a company that starts off dishonest? AIL, Have some integrity and respect for the American Workforce as you say you do and STOP with the unethical hiring/recruiting practices!

ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE! I worked for this company in the camp hill office for 5 months, and although i didnt make it there, the managers were so patient and helpful and did everything they could to help me succeed. It was disappointing for me personally, but i sure dont blame the company or mr kun for not making it. You do need to make sure that your personality will be the right one, i thought i had the right personality, i still think i do, but it was the wrong time for me because i seperated from my wife right before i got there and was going thru a divorce while working there and it made it impossible for me to do it right. i never met nick, but bob is a nice guy, chris was my manager and he's really a nice person, mandy is so so nice and happy, never liked sookie much, and garret was really good to me. so i dont know what happened to xrider but that is not at all what i experienced there. he said that agents give money or contracts to the managers, its just the opposite, the managers give business to agents to make sure they make their bonuses. chris and garret gave me deals all the time to help me bonus and make money for the week. after i quit, garret even offered me another job there that didnt involve selling. i dont know, i thought the place was good, the mood in the office is real positive, and those people that run the office really are helpful. i would recommend working there if you have the right personality.

I just opened my email, and had an email saying 'Last Chance Interview', and how they have been unable to reach me by phone (they have never tried, to my knowledge) I too would like to know how they reviewed my resume, because this name does not ring a bell. It sounded a bit hasty - call between 9-2 Monday to set up an interview next week - and didn't seem right. I am so glad that I Googled AIL and found this site - THANK YOU!

To Xrider:

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. I'm sure your posts will save some people from even going for an interview and I applaud you for doing so. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Here is the truth about AIL. How do I know it's truth? I just ended my servitude to these sharks after a 5 month stint. My term was with the Hadayia Agency out of the Camp Hill PA office which is run by Garret Kun (Kun is the correct spelling). All I can say is this, run in the other direction, run as fast as you can! Don't misunderstand here, I am not saying the product is a scam, it's not. The insurance programs they sell are legitimate & not a scam, that's a verifiable fact. What is a scam, however, is the way they use & spit out agents to market the product. Folks this was by no means my first rodeo in sales or management, far from it & I knew full well what I was getting into. What I didn't realize was the level to which these guys take it. The way this works, in a nutshell, is this. AIL "managers" (I use that title VERY loosely here as most are barely out of their teens) only make money off of their agents while they are relatively new. The longer they stick it out, the less the manager makes. Once you make SA (the first level of manager) the focus is on recruiting, or as Fred Hadayia puts it, "grinding meat" & guys, that is exactly what it is. Unless you become one of the favored few, i.e. show that you are willing to throw your own mother to the wolves to get what you want, you will be used for everything they can get from you & when you have nothing left you will be told you just don't have what it takes or as Garret put it to me when I resigned, you are just a loser, a fake & a liar. Now bear in mind here this was after I had made manager after just 1 month in the field. The problem was I could no longer live with myself after seeing the things I saw. Here are a few examples. Forgery, this is rampant here. By law, if an agent neglects to obtain the clients signature on any of the required documents, he/she is supposed to go back to the client, explain what happened & obtain that signature. That never happens, it would mean that deal can't be counted in that weeks total sales. As Mr Kun & other managers are paid based on those numbers, that particular law is broken routinely. Garret is known in that office as the king of forgeries, I wouldn't let him get within 10 yards of my checkbook! They also developed a technique of using the glass desk tops to forge signatures. A document containing a legit signature would be placed on the glass, then the document missing the signature is placed over it & a flashlight is shown through the glass desk top. Now the signature can be traced just like an artist's light board! And guys, this is by no means the exception, this is the rule. Another in a long list of problems is the practice of taking deals from new agents & signing them over to managers who may be in danger of losing their bonus or, worse yet, using them to code new agents who were nowhere near being ready for field work to meet the companies recruiting requirements. At manager level the emphasis is not on production but on recruiting. If you are not providing enough meat for the grinder you will lose that position VERY quickly. Worst of all, most of this is done without the agents knowledge! You will find out when you get paid. If you question this you will be told that it is just the cost of doing business, soon you will be making enough so that you won't even miss it, if that isn't good enough, you will be told that you just have a negative attitude, we'll work on that. I can't tell you how many good people I saw get chewed up by this company & this office in particular. I am so upset by the things I saw, and it is a very long list, that I have decided to take further action & I will be bringing these issues to the attention of the insurance commissioners in both PA & DE. I could go on all day but I will condense this a bit. If you decide to go for this, good luck to you, you're going to need it! Here is a list of what you will hear & what the reality is.
1. You are an independent business person. Well, if forced servitude is a form of independence, than yes you are. You will be hounded day & night by phone calls & text messages from the managers. There are NO days off, trust me on this one!
2. You set your own schedule. What a joke! Your schedule is determined by them & there is no leeway! Expect an average of 70+ hours per week.
3. If you hit bonus level on the first field day of the week you can take the rest of the week off, we don't care & we don't require more than that. Good luck with this one...LOL. Try it & see what happens!
4. You can go as far as you want. This is hands down the biggest lie of all. You will NEVER go any further than they want you to, it's just that simple.
As I said, these are just a few, I could go on all day. The bottom line is if you expect great rewards from this be prepared to sell your soul & those of your family & the people you will have to use & abuse to get what you want. Anything less will just be a waste of your time & money. Think very hard about this & do the research you will regret it otherwise! And by the way, there is NO HR department, it's part of the script used to make recruiting calls! The Liz people heard from is no longer with this office, she has been replaced by Casey & they are just hired to do recruiting calls (they get paid by the call). If you are contacted by any of the following people, raise the red flag! If this post saves just one unsuspecting "piece of meat" than I achieved my goal here.

I just received an email from this company:

"We have been unable to reach you by phone and would like to discuss your resume and qualifications. Your resume has been reviewed and it would appear that you potentially may be a good fit for AIL. We are the Labor Union Benefits Company and provide benefit programs to all Unions in the US. We are looking to fill a variety of positions, primarily entry level management. Please contact me Monday morning between 9AM and 2PM at [protected] so we can set up an interview for next week at our Camp Hill office. Hope to hear from you soon."

I am a firm believer of getting paid for working, and let me tell you as a wife of an AIL General Agent I can say that this job is NOT A SCAM. You people took the first phone conversation, and an hour interview to base your ENTIRE opinion of a company that makes millions of dollars a year! If this was not the job for you, and you honestly went in and had the interview, fine. Then you may disagree that this is not the lifestyle you would choose. Yes in the beginning you are paying out of pocket, and it is long hours. But the effort you put into this job you get back 10 fold. Maybe you will read this and think I am bias, but I am speaking from experience. The company gives you leads to call, you are not a door to door salesman. This company sells what we all need. Life Insurance, because two things are certain in life, death and taxes. I wish that all families could have the oppurtunity mine has had. I get to stay home and raise our baby because my husband makes enough to support our family. How many other jobs can do that? Please be more informed before you bash something you know nothing about.

Food for thought ? Thought I would check this out further so instead of trusting hundreds of people where most of them have never even worked for this company let alone ever been in for an interview I decided to do some actual research so first I checked out the company's website which doesn't provide much information in regards to positions available but much more than the phone interview did, found out they're owned by torch mark corporation which owns several other insurance companies this led me further to check them out on yahoo hot jobs, right now there the number 33 company in the United States to work which would be hard to believe if there a scam. Intrigued, I wanted more information so I went to AM Best website a company that rates insurance companies and found out there rated A+ superior which is there highest rating. Then I went to better business bureau and found nothing negative there. This sparked more interest to find out what the real deal is so i'm going in for the interview, for the rest of you good luck on your job hunt, if i get the job at least i'm helping to pay your unemployment.

Thank you so much for your feedback on this company. I thought it was very strange that myself would be called for a management position, since I have been out of the workforce for 15 years! Thanks again, and I am glad I googled!

Well, I am almost at a complete loss of words... It is amazing how you people can take an opportunity like this one and just crush it for others, who are you to tell people that this is a scam. The company is among the top 100 companies in America to work for in 2008. Also I work for this company now for three years, yes I work very very hard, but I also make a great living. At this company you get the best training, you are given leads (the company doesn't ask you to go door to door or even write down friends and family.) So get the information right before you talk about this great opportunity...

P.S. this is the only company I know where it is up to you to make what you want to make of it..
