American Education Services [AES] student loan

I paid off the balance of my daughter's student loan a year ago. Now, they want more money! They say that the balance on the bill wasn't the "real" balance, and that I had five dollars left to pay. They charged daily interest on it and never sent me a letter or bill or anything! They are incredibly rude on the phone and refuse to answer questions. This company should be sued and put out of business! And to think that the government and the colleges refer us to this company for help! I am outraged.

I was only a month late on a bill I advised AES that I was having financial problems and that I needed assistence they gave me info on the deferrment program and adv the sooner I fax paperwork in the faster the the forbearence would be processed, I had to fax the paperwork 5 times because they always would adv me that they never recieved any of my faxes, it was costing me money just to do the paperwork because at the time I didnt work in an office with a fax machine and I had to drop kinkos $3-4 at a time, by the time they got my paperwork they then turned me over to two different collections agencys because I had 4 seperate loans with them due to different semesters, I get 15 calls a day I recieved 3 calls with in 3 min at a time.

American Education Services [AES] student loans

Led me to believe that opting to the interest on my private-student loan, monthly, would in no-way effect my credit score if I ever couldn't pay it. Well, of course, now that I'm about to graduate (therefore, I have zero time to work) and I cannot pay my monthly interest - instead of helping me, AES has marred my credit so badly that now I can't even get anything through credit, even with a co-signer.

BEWARE of AES

I agree with your complaint. My son just recieved a 1098 e form from this company which baffles us .. He never recieved a student loan from them in the first place. The school he had applied for but decided not to attend sent the money back to American
Education Services yet he is being charged intrest rates on a loan he never recieved. I have emailed them and they said that this would be corrected that was two years ago and still isnt corrected..
Now this is effecting his credit rating. Why because of their ignorance.. I am going to seek legal advise regarding this matter.

American Education Services [AES] dishones, unorthodox business practices

With many problems to date with AES, the most recent concerns having my loan changed to a graduated payment plan. I was told I did not have to make a payment in the month of Dec. In January, I got a delinquent payment notice, again I was told that I did NOT owe the payment. I was apologized to and informed that the error was on their part but all had been taken care of. In March, I received a notice from a collection agency. Again, I called AES. This time they claim that I do owe the payment and late fees. (Even though they told me repeatedly that I did not need to make the payment.) Now I have their also unorthodox collection agency, Van Ru harassing me. This is making a very long story short. However, through research, I have learned that I am not the only customer this exact thing has been done to. In addition to various other schemes they have pulled off with not just me but many others. I encourage anyone who has ever experienced difficulties with AES to file with the BBB (where they have an "F" rating), the FTC, Attorney general of PA, as well as any other consumer protection agencies federal or otherwise. They MUST be stopped!

How do we stop AES horrible practices, I am tired of getting phone calls saying I owe a payment when payment was made three days ago! Is this not some type of harassment? Their customer service is rude.

Thanks for suggesting we report AES to the BBB, I'm on it, now! I sure wish I had checked the BBB before signing that loan note...

We have been paying faithfully on time every month. But, somehow the way they have their billing system set up it shows as us paying early every month, which for some bizarre reason is not allowed!!! Don't loan companies want you to pay on time regardless if it's a few days early?! Consequently we have been denied the lower rate incentive! I asked the...

American Education Services [AES] fraud and cheating

American Education Services, AES, has terrible customer service. After a customer service representative told me erroneous information about a modified graduate repayment system (MGRS) that it would A) not use forbearance time, and B) bring the account current and not make another payment due for 2 months I immediately received a bill due in two weeks (not two months). I called AES 13 times, and sent them an email which they assured they would respond to within 48 hours. They NEVER did, when I finally reached them via phone they denied everything and said it was my fault for delinquency. They customer service rep eventually hung up on my telling me he did not care about the inconsistencies within the company and about the companies reputation because all that mattered was that I repaid my loan because I borrowed the money.

My student loan interest was locked in and now in the last three months they have jumped it way up to 9.2 percent . The loan was almost paid off and now they done this it’s out longer and now they saying it can jump up more each quarter. How is this even legal when the loan was locked back in 2004

AES is an absolute SCAM - they charged us interest while our son was in school and we have been paying interest on top of interest. We cannot get management to call us, we don't know who they sold the loan to, we want to negotiate a payoff but, absolutely no one will speak to us.

DON'T EVER BORROW FROM AES.

AES sent me a bill for $30.33 so I called since I was in an IBR and said where did this come from? They’ll states that it was a late payment from a year ago. I told the person on the phone I wasn’t aware of being late but let me take care of it now. So I paid it. The next month I received another bill for the late payment in the mail. I called and was informed that they did not apply the $30.33 to my late payment and would not. That I had accrued $12,000 in interest on my loans since being on the IBR PLAN since 2008 and all monies received by them would be applied to the interest and not to the late payment. I said I specifically paid my monthly payment and paid separately for the interest that their representative took payment for. They said that that representative made a mistake and she was filing a report against that representative for taking my payment. So until I fulfill $12,000 in interest I will receive a bill every month for a late payment. I believe this should be against the law!

In 2007, AES contacted me, encouraging to consolidate with them. Too long ago to remember why, prior servicer was ECM. Like most I was overwhelmed by the minutia of student debt. My otherwise prestigious university had no loan counseling. I had struggled to climb out of default. My success, believe it or not, I credit to an honest collection agency - or agent working there. On the announcement of Public Service Loan Forgiveness I called AES, explaining I wanted to pursue PSLF. I was assured by either an uninformed / undertrained or Venal customer service rep, that since my loans were "Federal" it would be fine. I still have the notes I took from the phone conversation. I also contacted the Dept of Education . Dept of Ed customer service rep, after looking into my file, noting I could consolidate, neglected to tell me that I HAD to consolidate into Direct in order to qualify for PSLF. I mentioned I spoke to AES. Sad story short, I moved my FFEL to AES instead of consolidating into Direct . 2015, I contacted AES to check on my PSLF progress. I was one of those who got the sad news: loans not eligible. It was crushing. I experienced like a death. The cruel irony is that AES Is Part of PHEAA (aka Myfedloan.org). And PHEAA - Myfedloanorg - was the sole servicer of PSLF! I was looking at working into my mid 70s in order to qualify. 2015 I reconsolidated, into PHEAA. PHEAA the "owner" of AES. Due to the Waiver, I'm finally up for loan forgiveness - despite the most underhanded efforts of AES! To be candid, I think AES "steered" me into consolidating with them. Someone at PHEEA got a bonus for the crime. There are more honest and simpler ways to finance education. America's developed one of the most complex and out sight stupid means of doing it. A middle-class or blue collar family shouldn't have to hire a financial planner & tax consultant in order to send their kids to a public or private 4 year institution. I entered public service to serve the public. A decision I don't regret. But I never expected to by exploited by Wall Street and poorly regulated "servicers, " accountable to no one.

I was on a income based repayment plan when I was married and my spouse made double my income. Now I'm divorced and my payments on the same plan have doubled. When I called to find out why they recommended I get it recalculated using my tax info. I did just that and they raised my payments even further. I called again and they literally told me there was nothing they could do so too bad. Please tell me they have to answer to someone.

yes I am considering a lawsuit after reading what I have... I think one needs an attorney and to write a formal letter to the Attorney General of your state for starters...

Three times I have sent in advance payments for my loans which will pay off the loan. I had Unsub and Subsidized loans. Every time, they applied the payments incorrectly and spread the payment throughout ALL THE LOANS INSTEAD OF TARGETING THE HIGH INTEREST LOANS.

I specified how I wanted payments to be applied very clearly.

They are not honest.

I am on social security disability and do not remember co-signing a loan for my son. These people are worse than the mafia. They are causing me all kinds of health issues. I tried helping my son by paying over 7 years at 175 a month. The loan has now exceeded the amount of the original loan. It is like pouring money in a sand hole. It never stops. Is there anyone or anyhow to get help. I think this is despicable. Immigrants get free education and we get the shaft. Is there any way out of this mess? Our country wants educated people, but they will never outlive these horrid loans. I am at a loss. Has anyone ever figured a way out of this mess? Please let me know.

Is anyone in a class action lawsuit against AES? If not we need to start one. They are absolutely ridiculous. I'm sick over how they are treating people.
