My husband and I tried to cancel our Retro Fitness automatic bill withdraw for over 6 months. We live out of state to where the Fitness Center is. At first we called to cancel our membership & the automatic deductions that ABC Financial / Retro Fitness was taking out of our account. We were told that we could not cancel by phone but we had to either travel to the original state & the original Retro Fitness we signed up at or send a letter by mail... We did not understand this? Because no one has the right to continue to bill your account after you have specifically expressed for them not to & that you no longer wish to continue your service with them. So we traveled down to the original state my husband signed up for his membership at with ABC Financial / Retro Fitness- Both my husband & myself went into the facility & said we would like to cancel our membership & the automatic deductions to our account, that have been taking place for over a year with minimal & in the last 8 months...no use on our account in even entering a Retro Fitness facility. We were then told: "We cannot cancel your membership here, you have to call ABC Financial"...I then began to seriously address the "manager" ...or the guy who told me he was the manager at the time. That Retro Fitness has no right to continue to withdraw funds from our account without our permission. This must stop we are telling Retro Fitness we do not want a membership here & please discontinue withdraws to our account. TO NO AVAIL...They told us that we did not sign a contract with Retro Fitness but with ABC Financial, & they are no longer in control of it now, because ABC handles the collections past due, so we have to cancel with ABC. They clerk knowing that our collections would not have been passed due had we been able to cancel our membership prior that we tried to via the phone & in person at another location. I asked the clerk to show me where on the contract that my husband originally signed does it say, that ABC Financial / Retro Fitness has the right to keep billing you & to so much as withdraw money out of your account after you have asked them to stop...several times I might add, because originally we went into one location in our area, but they told us we could not do it there either. The clerk could not show us where it said this, the only thing he could show us was an expressed sentence on the contract that said give up to 2 weeks for the account to be completely cancelled & closed upon your expressing the desire to no longer do business with ABC Financial / Retro Fitness. And even to ABC Financial / Retro Fitness's POSSIBLE credit, the contract also DID NOT SAY if your account is 2 months past due...( I MIGHT ADD BECAUSE WE REFUSED TO PAY FOR A SERVICE WE HAD OPENLY EXPRESSED NOT WANTING SEVERAL TIMES) ...that you can only cancel in one specific type of way. If the contract had said that, I would have been more than happy to adjust actions accordingly. The clerk simply stumbled over his words, as I let him know it is illegal to continue to charge my account after I have openly & writtenly expressed that I no longer wish to do business with your company. He claimed we have nothing to do with it, it's all ABC Financial. My husband asked the gentleman for a cancellation form anyway to fill out & have as our own copy so that if we ever have to take ABC Financial / Retro Fitness to court, we have a signed written copy that we...whether they chose to honor this or not did sign a cancellation notice.

To add on to this, once my husband and I called ABC Financial they told us to call First Credit...

My daughter signed up for Retro then went away to college. I thought she " suspended" membership until summer but apparently she did not or the suspension is temporary. Anyway at some point our debit card was hacked and the bank send new ones. We forgot Retro was taking automatic payments. Now my daughter has graduated college and has a ding on her credit. Is there some way I can remedy this issue?

Same thing here. I have been trying to cancel for three years now. I recieved threatening calls from a collector after my card number expired. They said that they would ruin my credit if i did not provide a new number. Still struggling to get by after loosing my job. These people should all be locked up. Stealing from consumers that have not used a service for over three years is approaching grand larceny!

My girlfriend was a manager in the EFT department (Personal Training) at Retro Fitness. As soon as she found out how bad and sneaky Retro Fitness really was to their clients, she quit her manager position the following day. Even though EFT has nothing to do with the contracts that clients sign, she still felt as though she represented Retro in a way. I currently go to a Retro Facility, and I've overheard several complaints about billing issues. One missed payment and they charge you asap. Two missed pmts and they send you to collections (where they will call about 10x a day to collect any outstanding balances). I know from an employee there, she says to cancel all you have to do is send a hand written letter to ABC Financial stating that you want to cancel your membership and also state that your one year contract is over. The process takes 3-4 weeks.

I have been trying to cancel my membership with Retro Fitness in Middletown since September 2013. A friend of mine is a personal trainer and had given me a workout to do I had asked one of the guys where a certain machine was he was at the counter reading a nnewspaper as if he couldn't be bothered upon seeing my notebook with my workout he began to drill me about where I got my workout who my friend was where she trained he was so rude. I tried to cancel my membership and was told u had to cancel in Manahawkun because my membership had been transfered there the Middletown manager tried to say I was close to $300 behind on payments I had to call ABC Finacial and bring in my bank statement as proof that ivwas NOT $300 dollaes behind on a membership. I went to cancle my membership in Manahawkin and was told I could not cancle because I had to complete my contract which is up in May and I had to give 60 day notice and I have to pay for May and June of 2014 this is nonsense. I hate this gym. I wastold I need a certified letter or a ddoctors note I'm healthy 28 year old female a doctor usnt going to give me a disability note. I want OUT of this contract. I WANT OUT of this HORRIBLE gym that I havent even set foot in since December of 2013. I'm contacting the better business bureau because I'm getting no where with Retro or ABC Finacial.

I have been a member of Retro Fitness in Brick NJ for two years and I am trying to cancel membership. I did what was asked and brought in a letter to cancel. I understood that I have to wait 60 days for cancellation and my last payment is april 30th. However I was also cancelling the trainer. I was told it was a month to month basis because I went past my 6 month sessions. I was never told I have to also wait for 30 days for cancellation so the company took out $160.00 again in March, 2013. Not only that BUT I never got my last session in March but was charged! I left 3 messages with the desk and text ed the trainer and he never called back. I do not want anymore sessions and at least that one session should be credited to my account as it was the trainers fault for not returning my calls to reschedule a session. There is no communication with the staff I was told on numerous occasions that someone would call me back and they did not do so. Gym membership is very much by word of mouth and I hate to tell you that I would never recommend this gym. to anyone! If they continue totake out funds I will not hesitate but get an attorney!

DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM! I am going through the same thing as several people above. My grandmother signed up and after she went into the hospital I have been trying to close her account for 4 months and every person I talk to gives me a different story on how to close the account. Nothing works, went into the original gym, they said no problem they would close the account but never did. Called but had no success. Wrote letter, nothing. Just a bad company to deal with... STAY AWAY!

Even though I have the proof of cancel date from abc financial, these guys have sent my case to collection and asking much more than the due amount. I was in the middle of talking to VP of retrofitness to resolve this issue. These guys are not doing fair business. Let's get together and file a case against these guys to stop doing the business.

I m trying to cancel my membership with Retro but nothing worked. I went to the location twice to cancel the membership, where I was told that i have not complete my one year contract. i joined them in January 2011 and due to my knee problem I can not continue. I sent my doctors note with a letter to the Retro fitness at the end of June 2012, I freeze my membership cuz I was out of country for 6 mos. Now I get harassing phone calls from ABC financial. Today i spoke to them for like 40 mins and was helpless. They say you still has time and they cant cancel it, They say that they are going put me in collection. I dont know where to go for help? I never had any problem with my previous gym which was Atlanticare Life center NJ. Can anyone help me out,

Worst company ever! I moved 25 miles away from the stupid place and they still wouldn't cancel my member ship! With gas as much as it is I wasn't driving that far to a gym and they still harrass me and are sending my balance to collections. Why should I pay when I wasn't even going there? I shouldn't but they don't care about there costumers which pretty soon they arnt going to have any because everyone I know is done dealing with them.

I cancelled my account with the expiration of my contracts months ago and they continue to call and harass me. They still billed me for months after cancellation and after resolving the issue with a customer service rep at ABC. I plan on going to the proper authorities to resolve the issue and blog wherever i can to spread word. I'm going to make this cost them far more in future clients than what I owe and time I've missed talking to these people on the phone.

Give them a declaration of cancellation in writing and make sure its in writing. They won't come to you again.
