ABC Financial Services terminating a contract

I signed up with Anytime Fitness for a 2 year contract for their gym because at the time I was working graveyard shift. Well I no longer work graveyard and have been dealing with some hip problems and have not been able to exercise. I called to inquire about canceling, and they said it would be about $300 to terminate, unless I had a doctors note. So I went to the doctor on 9/22/10 and got a note and word for word it says: "patient has hip problems and can not exercise". I called ABC and told them I had a doctors note, and the guy on the phone asked me what the note said, I told him, and he said I could then do a medical buyout option of a $50 fee, and one months charge ($29.00), and told me to tax it in with attention to member services. I had to wait to 10/15/10 to fax it to make sure I had sufficient funds to cover the fees incase they would draft it soon. Several days later I called on 10/15 and they said they had not processed it yet, and to call back at the end of the week. I called today (10/21/10 @9am) and the guy said he was not sure what the $50 and $29 fee was, but because my doctors note does not say "disabled" I cannot terminate my contract or do the buyout for the $79. But he would go through the recorded phone calls on the dates I provided to listen to what this other guy had said about me being able to do this $79 and said he would call me back at the end of the day. I called back around 4:30 to find out if they had figured out anything and listened to my phone calls and what this other guy said, and now are standing firm to not letting me do this option of the medical buyout of $79, and want me to pay 50% of the remaining of my membership time. I will be calling again at some point to attempt to talk to a manager, but DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!

ABC Financial Services unable to cancel membership

I can't believe all the complaints about ABC Financial. I thought it was just me. We should all do something about this...not only are they scam artists, but are FRAUDS!

I had a gym membership cancellation request revoked several times because they claimed to never receive my faxes or mailings. I can't tell you how many phone calls and faxes I've sent over the past couple months. Each time, they claim to never receive anything. See, I moved out of state and per the memebrship clause, I was able to cancel due to relocation. Not a chance! They even stopped charging my credit card for one month to make it appear that I successfully cancelled, only to start charging my card again 2 months later. On top of everything else, they sent it to a collection agency.

It's surprising to me that this company is still allowed to do business and that there is no one out there to help the consumer.

Wish me luck everyone. I will continue to attempt to legitimately cancel my membership. Anyone been successful out there?

Signed,
Still a CT gym member with a 1, 200 mile commute from TN

I have been trying to cancel membership of golds gym. The account is managed by abc financial and after 5 calls and writing 2 letters u have been unable to cancel membership each customer service representative gives me a new reason and apologized for the previous but I still can get nowhere. I actually feel like I am held hostage.

My son joined Gold's Gym here in town. He told them he would be moving to another state to attend college and they assured us the membership was transferable. When he moved to SC he found that it was NOT transferable and he had to join the Gold's there. His contract stated that he could cancel if he moved more than 50 miles away. We submitted the required documentation several times to ABC Financial and each time they tell us there is something wrong with the documentation. I have been paying on a gym membership that nobody is using, they have refused to honor the out-clause in the contract, and they keep telling me that I have to send new documentation. Unbelievable.

Once again we sent verification showing his name on a lease in SC. They told us it was a bank document and not the lease and they wouldn't accept it and are now sending - again - a list of acceptable documentation for use in cancelling membership. I personally belong to another gym in town and have never, never had anything but above-board, honest dealings with them. I've been with them for years. Gold's Gym and their financial company ABC Financial, on the other hand, are non-responsive and continue to give us the run-around.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear that you have not been successful at cancelling your membership through ABC Financial Services. The relocation clause in your agreement is in place to prevent situations like yours from occurring, however, if we do not have record of what you sent in then consiquently your cancellation was not processed.

I would be happy to assist you in this process - please contact me at alex.mena@abcfinancial.com or fax directly to me at [protected].

Hello,

I apologize if you feel you are getting the run around in order to discontinue service with Gold's Gym. ABC Financial Services, like any other company, makes mistakes - if you indeed sent in the proper relocation documentation as you state, I would be happy to re-troactively cancel your membership to the date of your request.

If you have further comments or require assitance please feel free to email me at alex.mena@abcfinancial.com or call at [protected] Ext. 1804 and I would be happy to review your son's membership to ensure it was properly handled.

People who have had issues with ABC Financial,

1. Make sure you have not violated any of the terms of your signed agreement and have fully executed your duties as stated on the signed agreement. You should already be aware of the terms because you should have read them thoroughly before signing. Just because you don't want to keep going doesn't mean you don't have to keep paying for the entire term of your agreement. It's a legal agreement.

2. Close your bank account OR contact your bank/card company and deauthorize all future payments to ABC and the club you joined.

3. Fax a copy of the signed agreement and your valid proof of cancellation according to the terms of the signed agreement to ABC, your bank, the 3 major credit reporting agencies, BBB, and district attorney who has jurisdiction over your location. On the letter you send to ABC notate at the bottom that a copy is being sent to your lawyer. That will usually catch their attention.

4. Again, this is only valid if you have completely fulfilled your terms of the agreement. Not wanting to go to the gym anymore does not absolve your responsibility to pay.

I am on 3 months after I sent my letter of cancellation. I was working with a manager here in Culpeper, left him my proof that I sent my certified letter. Now the guy does not work there any more and I have to REsend a certified letter which means at least another month of dues taken out of my bank. I think the whole thing is scam and plan to put flyers out in my home town and blog until I am crazy. I hope this makes ABC loose money and Golds Gym to loose customers and warn those who are not caught up at this time to save themselves. $152 down the ABC drain.

Good luck!

ABC Financial Services - scam

I just found out today that abc financial has been billing me for over 5 yrs. I personally went into the gym to cancel my membership after some serious health issues arose, I was active duty military at the time and was instructed by health care professionals not to work out, I provided medical transcripts and phone numbers, to gold's gym on why I had to...

ABC Financial Services unfair billing practices

ABC Financial has been auto deducting $58 from my checking account for the past 18 months for Anytime Fitness Center membership that I canceled at the end of my first year. Every time I attempt to have have it stopped I receive the run around. I am reporting ABC and Anytime Fitness for fraudulent billing to my State Attorney General. How many more are out there that we could possibly get a class action lawsuit to get them stopped.

I no longer will join any gym because they all use ABC Financial. I reported Anytime Fitness to my State Attorney General office after 18 months of billing after I had canceled. The total paid was $1100. the owner responded by saying she would give me a free membership. Are you kidding me? I quit your gym because I wasn't happy with it and you are offering me a free membership.

I did join another gym and found out they used ABC as well. So I no longer have gym memberships. I will only join one if they aren't affiliated with ABC.

I find Alex Mena's request "to little, to late". I had given written notice to the club that I belonged to. I do not believe it should be my responsibility to contact the billing agent for the company. I called ABCfincancial the month after I had canceled. It is 18 months later and they have been charging me $58 a month since that time. I have reported them to the attorney general of my state and the better business bureau. I believe a class action lawsuit is in order.

ABC financial is ripping people off left and right. I myself am still a gym member because i have done research and realized there is no possible way to cancel my gym membership. ABC financial would just continue taking my money, and then send me a message quite like the one Alex is proposing here. This message may be read as a helpful PR move, but in reality it says, " Too bad, we already have your card number and/or bank account number, and we will run it dry." These greedy individuals need to be stopped, and they need to be stopped now. They are getting rich by stealing our money, and not by offering a fair finite ending to a contract that was agreed upon. This will not be my last post, as I will do further research until i find the most proficient way to bring these crooks to justice.

Thank you,
Thomas Dogood

I joined Anytime two years ago. Due to a new debit card (new expiration date), I received an email that I needed to "update my information". I did. Then I saw they had me due for two months membership (only one month had been affected by the new card's date) plus $19.50 service fee. I inquired and received an email stating the service fee had been removed and "send payment as soon as possible". (I was guessing, at that point, that I'd been wrong to assume it would be automatically drafted.) I submitted an online payment (printed it, for $21.49). Next day, 21.49 plus 19.50 deducted from my bank account. I sent notice of cancelation to ABC and the local gym (leaving my key card...though I was paid up till 3/15). Next day, another 21.49 out of my bank. Now, after canceling, I'm paid up through 4/15. Unauthorized, no less. No response from ABC. None. I sent copies of every email, every transaction to Anytime's corporate office, then filed a Better Business Bureau complaint. I thought about joining Gold's, but now that I've read Gold's uses ABC, I'll be investing in home equipment. The real shame about it is that I loved the gym I used. Now, because of ABC alone, I'd never recommend them...and I'll tell anyone who asks.

I feel the same way, I was told on the phone to contact Kenkeita Carroll about any legal issues or to file a complaint. In my case I just recently canceled (in writing on 12/23/2010 after several attempts to cancel over the phone and in person at the gym) and during the 30 days, they are trying to bill me for another full month's membership (1/15/2011) even though my 30 days notice ends 1/23. They want to bleed me for another full month fee effectively through 2/14/2011.

I really wish they would change their billing practices!

my email is jmandracchia@gmail.com if you want to start sending out emails to the others that have been screwed over.

Alex,

Its nice of you to offer this lip service but I have to agree with deedee. Why dont you try and google abc financial scam and look at all of the complaints your company gets.
Want to hear what you guys did to me?

Well, I signed up 3 years ago in location A, after about 9 months i switched jobs and was told i could transfer my membership to location b. I was promised that the same owner managed location a and b so i could simply transfer it. After being hassled a million times at location b for "not havinga membership" (my financial records can prove against this claim) location b decided to "rewrite" my membership but oops they forgot to tell ABC so i had nagging calls and probably bad credit because somebody forgot to communicate. so aftera little over two years i try and cancel my membership!but NO i cant do that because i am under contract for two years? Because location b changed something i now am obligated for 2 years and 9 months. So now i decide to stop paying my bill and back to the nagging calls..

I would love to persue a lawsuit if anybody has been in a similar situation unfortunately how can i possibly fight? will anybody from abc help me? or will they just continue to rack up charges and destroy my credit?

DeeDee,

Most health clubs requiere that a cancellation be submitted in writing - have you already done this?

I'd be happy to review your membership and ensure you have taken the proper steps to discontinue the service. Our intent is certainly not to take advantage of circumstances but, rather, to execute the financial provisions of a contract made between two parties.

Fitness Express
Norman, OK

When I joined 'Fitness Express', I was told that I could pay month to month and quit, then come back again with no problem.
But, when I went into the gym & said I wanted to stop for a couple of months that I would be out of the country, then they told me I had to speak with 'someone else'. At that point I became familiar with ABC Financial... one of the MOST nasty outfits I've had the misfortune to encounter.

I was told that I could not just stop, that I had to pay a month dues in order to be able to quit... or, I could pay $7.00 per month for the privilege of not going to the gym.

I am now back in the country and have paid for my 'last month', which I will attend the gym to make use of the fee. I have requested that I quit and I am told that will happen when my last payment clears.

This looks to me like unethical practices as the place where you sign up really has no idea of what the deal is. I was never given a copy of the 'contract'.

Who do we need to get in touch with to see they stop their predatory practices?

Sincerely,
Mark

Hello Penny,

ABC Financial is a billing company for many health clubs across the United States and does not have anything to do with the sign up process.

I am sorry to hear you were not aware of the terms you were signing up for, but I would be happy to review your account and see what options your agreement allows.

ABC Financial Services fraud

I joined GOLD'S GYM Buford, Georgia. Gold's management had me sign a contract that designated ABC Financial to debit the monthly fee from my account. The fee was reasonable so I agreed. Then, during my time at the gym, I would hear other members complaining about ABC Financial doing "double debits" and continuing to debit accounts after they were expired. ABC pulled the double debit on me while I was a member at Gold's. They hit my account twice in one month, hoping I wouldn't notice it. Not an unusual occurrence for them. Management was eventually able to credit my account back, but it took a while. My contract was coming up for expiration in April 2010. The fine print stated that I needed to notify Gym management in writing that I wanted my contract to "really" expire? That meant, if I didn't give them a 30 day written notice that I really wanted my contract to expire, then ABC would continue to debit my account, even after my contract dates have expired. So, I did what the contract wanted. In fact, I went above and beyond because I knew from the other members complaints, I was going to have trouble.

Two months after my contract expired, I received a phone call from Mr. Tater, bill collector for ABC Financal. What Mr. Tater told me was that he was hired by ABC to be the debt enforcer and collect from me. Tater stated that the balance was $180 but he would be so kind as to offer me 10 percent discount if I paid for it right now. I explained to him that the contract was up in April of 2010 and that I followed contractual procedures to end the contract as it expired. Mr. Tater said, "Well, Since you didn't send in writing that you wanted to cancel (even though the contract expired) we've been charging your account for service, late fees, admin fees, month to month fees". Ok, even if my contract went month to month after that, then my balance should be $37.50 a month, times two months (expired contract time) for a total of $75. Not even close to the $180 Tater was trying to get me for. Mr. Tater said to me, "You didn't send in the correct documents and follow the proper procedure for cancelling you contract, so you owe us membership fees, admin fees, tater fees etc and that is $180". I explained to Tater that according to my contract I was only required to notify the Gym in writing that I did not wish to renew my contract and I did that plus sent in the certified letter and fax to ABC Financial. Tater said he has no record of it, (of course not!) He continued to insist that I pay the $180 they were trying to scam me out of. Mr. Tater would not even try and listen to the fact that I had already sent the required paperwork into ABC. Tater stated that he would place a negative mark on my credit since I was not willing to pay the balance.

This is deceptive, intimidating business practice and is indicative of extortion by demanding money that is not due and if it's not paid, giving a threat to scar a credit rating.

I too have been scammed by ABC Financial. Our gym recently closed, Golds Gym Roswell, without ANY notice to it's members. No e-mail, no phone call, no one said a word to us when we were at the gym a few days prior. We found out by walking up to the front doors with gym bag in hand, only to find a paper stuck to the door telling us they were closed for good. The note also said the Gold's Gym in Woodstock GA would honor all memberships. The Woodstock location is 25 miles from my home and clearly not an option. I called ABC financial to cancel my memberships and pay only a partial months payment (the gym closed on the 11th of May) and was told by 2 levels of managers that this was not possible because in our contract we are required to give them 30 days notice. I wasn't given 30 days notice from the gym that they were closing! If I had been given this notice, I would have canceled with the 30 days notice like a responsible member. Now I am being told that a possible 2 more payments will be debited and I cannot be helped by either party. I am furious over this thievery and deception on Golds Gym Roswell as well as ABC Financial's behalf. I have recorded all phone conversations with ABC Financial and plan on using them in court. How is a member supposed to cancel their membership 30 days out when the gym closed with no notice what so ever? I also plan on petitioning outside of the Woodstock location (Golds Gym) if they refuse to make this wrong a right.

I TOTALLY agree with the complainant, I just hung up from ABC Financial, with the exact same situation. If my contract is up, I fulfilled my obligation, why should you still benefit, from an expired contract. When I wanted to cancel, she said you have to be current to do so!? If I was current we wouldn't be having this conversation. THEN, shhe said we can "freeze" your acct for. $10.00 a month! Seriously? I pull up ABC Financial and find Scam and Fraud right next to your name. I'm going to contact the attorney general, and see if something can be done, this IMO is deception! For the ABC rep above me, I would to know whom the "other"
thousands of clients that really like/lovve you!

Mr. Ansbro,

ABC Financial Services reached out to you through several avenues to find a resolution for your issues, and even though we found neither Gold's Gym nor our company had record of your cancellation request, we retroactively cancelled your account and reached out to the collection agency your account was sent to due to none payment and asked that they close your membership.

Is there something else that we can do for you? I realize that you personally are not happy with our company, but there are hundreds of thousands of members, gym owners and employees that are.

ABC Financial will continue to do business for years to come as we are the most reliable and efficient in the industry and pride ourselves in the services we provide and the relationships we cultivate with both our employees and customers.

ABC Financial Services canceling membership/ fees

Absolutely the worst companies I have ever dealt with - both work out world and abc financial. I moved out of town but was still required to physically walk into the gym to cancel my membership. I finally found time to drive an hour so I could cancel my membership, which was literally signing a piece of paper that they could easily have faxed or emailed to me, only to find out that my membership wasn't actually canceled until I call abc financial and send them this signed cancel form. I proceeded to call abc financial to cancel, sent them the form, and found out that it takes 30 days to cancel, so I would be charged another month of membership fees. They still continued to charge me after the 30 days...

Prior to this when I was still a member, I saw a commercial that work out world was running a special deal for $ 9.99/month. I had been paying $ 19.99/month for the prior year and a half... I asked if I could switch to the $9.99/month deal and was told it was for new memberships only... So apparently their loyal members get the shaft... Absolutely ridiculous...

I absolutely agree! They have this cancellation process to keep people from cancelling, plain and simple. And then they still make it difficult after you do cancel.

I cancelled my membership in June of 2012. After realizing they had been charging my account for several months I contacted them in Dec. of 2012 to request again they cancel my membership and refund my money. I spent hours on the phone but they would not refund me over $200 of charges. They sent me emails saying they cancelled my membership, but they are still charging me (May of 2013)! I am going to the BBB and I will take other means. Worst experience ever in trying to cancel a membership.

They do it like this because they want to make it harder for you to cancel and still get your money. Many people are neglect canceling things with so many steps, and they forget about it. By the time they do it, WOW has collected many months. It's a very unfair treat to the costumers, it sucks

ABC Financial Services billing - account issues

Me and my husband have been members since before this gym actually opened. We signed up together, still have the original agreement but yet they still continue to screw up our account.

First time: Both accounts were under me. My husband didn't exist. Supposedly they corrected this. Fine.

Second Time: Call in to cancel tanning packages on both the accounts on June 30th. The girl said it was taken care of. No worries. Wasen't told at that time I was not even in the system. Great employee. I should have been told there was an issue with my account at this time.

Checked most recent bank statement- billed for tanning and for 2 accounts.

Called and spoke to Christina who said she would have the Manager call me when she gets in at 5. 8 PM rolls around and no call. I call in, she knew about the situation yet didn't lift a finger to even call and let me know the situation. Got into an argument with her and she says I dont exist and that the tanning was never cancelled? Well I have 2 years bank statements showing otherwise.

Blamed ABC Financial and said I need to take it up with them. They make those changes blah blah

Call ABC... They told me that the changes to my account were in fact made at the Gym. She read me the notes on the account. She had found my account labeled as my husbands... AGAIN! I guess Santa Clause did this? Maybe the Tooth Fairy? So they keep changing the names around on our account and then act like they don't know whats going on or who did it?

ABC has the account change history and notes. I asked for a copy for my records. The rep told me she cant do that but said I can do it on the clubonline.com . She had me on a 2 hour wild goose chase and in the end...no notes. She said they changed their system last week and she wasent aware... UM HELLO YOU WORK THERE. Basically ABC is will not give me my account notes in writing. 2 Hours wasted with an incompetent representative who doesent even know how her own company works or their changes.

I am out money on the tanning. I am out of my time dealing with this BS that I pay for on time monthly... and I am angry that the Gym pointed the finger at someone else when the computer system shows who did what at what time... BIG SCAM AND LIARS. For someone who doesen't exist you sure dont mind taking money out of my account for 2 memberships? Rude and Poor Customer Service.

I wonder if there is a class action law suit that we can all get involved with. I am so disgusted with Retro Fitness, and don't want anyone one else to go through what I did trying to cancel a membership for my son because he went to the Navy. Having to mail a letter in order to cancel is the biggest sign, please anyone sending a cancellation letter be smart and send if certified, its worth the money to know they cant lie and say they never received it

I went to retro June/2016 looking for a class so that I could keep moving a whole hour and get my body in shape. The person at the dest shoved a paper for me to sign. I did not take my glasses with me and the print was small. Not once did she say that it was for a year. She said that I would have to come back later to find out about the place. I left and came back a few days later and a woman told me I could only do four machines. One hurt my new knee. She then took me to a small room and showed me 6 exercises. I asked her where do you teach classes and she said that they do not teach classes. As I was leaving she said, "When you come back, be here at 6 am because the MEN come at 7 or 8. I NEVER returned to Retro. On Oct. 2nd. we had trouble with paying bills on line and on Oct. 15th the Comcast bill came and noted that we didn't pay the Oct. bill. Now we had to pay double all our bills plus a late fee in Nov. We closed our account at that bank and went to another bank. About that time I went to Retro and said I am closing my account here because I never once used retro and the man said, "You paid for a year". I said, "WHAT?."
Now ABC is harassing me time and time again. I am in my 80's and never used the place. I have been discriminated against because of my age. They don't want old women there while the MEN are there. Guess they are using my 3 machines also.

This gym robbed me for a year and is now charging me an annual membership after I cancelled. Disgusting. I don't care who works there and who is going to try to justify this on here. There is nothing you can say that will make me believe you are ethical

ABC just charged me $40.89 for my $19.99 membership because my debit card expiration date changed, number stayed the same, they claim the called and left messages and sent a letter. they lie. WARNING So they charge a fee if your card changes or expires. I too have been with them since they opened, I decided to cancel my membership because of this, too many gyms around here for the same price and I won't have to deal with this crap. I was told I need to send ABC a certified letter (don't know why, I signed up at Fairfield NJ Retro, not with ABC) and it will be 60 days until they cancel which means another $40. Seriously Retro? Get the word out, Retro isn't the place to go...find a gym without the BS.

We were told the same thing with my sons membership when we told them that he could only use the gym for the summer and then he had to go back to college and they gave us the same "no problem" line. They do nothing by letter or e-mail so nothing is ever in writing; they are also impossible to get in touch with by phone, it's always they will call back and never do! To make matters more of a problem their web site is impossible to make any successful transaction plus they randomly charge late fees when their bill is paid automatically. Your right they are a scam and I will add my name to the list of names at the better business bureau.

I am dealing with the same horrible customer service and sketchy business of retro fitness and abc financial. First off, I went into retro and told them I could only go to their gym for a couple months before I had to go back to school. The mangaer that made my account assured me I could pay the start up fee and then just pay for whatever months that I come in and use the gym. He never said anything even hinting that they would be charging me for a year long membership. a week ago I get a call from a very rude and unprofessional abc fincancial rep saying I owe retro hundreds of dollars...funny, I haven't set foot in there in over 5 months and told them that I couldn't come anymore the last month I was their. I call retro to work it out, the manager indirectly calls me a lair and keeps saying "well u signed the contract". That may be, but your manager lied directly to my face when I asked him how my membership would work. Now I'm in the process of trying to end this whole fiasco. My credit has been affected because no one ever sent me a letter, email or anything about overdue fees (if I got a notification I would most definitely taken care of this before). Moral of the story: Retro Fitness is a scam. They tell you one thing that sounds good, then hand u a contract with fine print saying somthing else. I've done so research, retro has 11 formal complaints about them ar the better business beauraun which they have refused to respond to. AND this ABC financial service that they are in cahoots with have over 800 consumer complaints on the BBB for unscrupulous tactics and taking money that's not theirs. Whatever you do don't go to retro fitness.

ABC Financial Services fees

I moved to north carolina about 5 months ago. I noticed that I was still getting charged for my gold's gym membership so I called the gym and canceled. Or so I thought. I got a call last night from abc financial so I decided to call today. They tell me that I owe for the past 3 months after I closed out my bank account and that I might be charged for an additional 60 days (2 more months of membership fees). I told them that I moved 5 months ago and have not used the service that I am being charged for for the past 3 months. They said tough and that I have to pay for those 3 months as well as a 60 days cancellation period after they receive a notice. I am angry about the 3 months already because I thought I had canceled, but the fact I could get charged for another 2 months just because it apparently takes that long to cancel is ridiculous.

MP87,

I regret to hear that your experience with ABC Financial was not satisfactory. Most health clubs requiere that a written notice is given in order to discontinue your membership. This is explained in the copy of your membership agreement. Please not that if this was not a step you ever took, your membership remained active.

If you feel your situation was not properly handled, I would be more than happy to review your account and see if there is something else that can be done.

Should you have any further comments please feel free to contact me directly at [protected] Ext. 1804 or by email at alex.mena@abcfinancial.com

ABC Financial Services cancelation/membership

I recently got a membership for me and my family at gold's gym in crowley, texas. We attended the orientation process and paid to have a pt for 6 sessions at 250.00. Trevor the pt guy told us to be in a couple days later to do our weight in and everything. He made the appt and we showed up for our day at the gym and when we got there... Well he didnt show up that day... That was just so nice to get a call stating he wasnt going to be in, and they didnt even offer to have someone else help us! Well a week went by and my husband tried to call and nothing returned from this guy. So finally after complaining he showed up to see us. That happend once. He never set us up another appt and everytime we went never saw him! So after a month of being dogged by them, I called to speak to michelle the accounts manager, well everytime we called she was always with someone, which we found odd considering that she was never there when we were and I went everyday for tanning. Nedlesst to say, my husband and I have called and not recieved calls back until I finally emailed the company and the bbb, now they have called stating that they have tried to call! Yeah ok.. Dont they know it loggs on your cell phone records. They have worst management skills and I have stated to cancel my membership which the salesman said that I could... Ohhhh but wait, that's only in 3 days after you sign the contract. Well, I have a couple people that have been screwed by this same location and more than willing to get a class action suit together... But if there is one in the works already against golds and abc then please let me know and we will join that one! Uuuggghhhhh these people!

his is by far the worst gym I have ever been to. The management is horrible and the credit card company they use to process payments is even worse. I was a member at the Crowley, TX Gold’s for a year. When I moved to Austin, TX on 6/12/2011 I contacted Gold's to cancel my membership because I was moving and you are allowed to break your contract if you relocate.I was told that I needed to send a letter to their credit card company with a copy of my lease as proof of my move to Austin. Since each location is not corporately owned you cannot transfer gyms. I mailed the letter and lease copy to the PO BOX 6800 address I was given. My cancelation was not processed because my card was charged the next month. I called several times to Gold's in Crowley and they said there was nothing they could do. They can take your payments but cannot cancel a membership or stop a payment. After receiving another charge to my card in March 2012 I called again and Gold's was again no help. I called the credit card payment processing company, ABC Financial in Sherwood, Arkansas, and explained the problem again. They said the letter must not have made it. I was advised that my contract was going to expire in April 2012 anyway and that I should just send another letter and they would cancel the membership. Even though my contract was to expire in April 2012, ABC continued to charge my card. In September 2012 I called Gold's in Crowley to get help since I could not get ABC to stop charging my card. They were, of course, unable to help me. I then told ABC that I was going to cancel my card and they said "If you do we will turn you over to collections for non-payment and place it on your credit report". I spoke to Hunter at Gold's in Crowley about this and explained how long this had been going on. He stated that he needed to speak with Michelle and would call me back. I called 4 times over the next week and never heard from Hunter and Michelle. In January 2013 – a year and a half since I tried to cancel my membership - they are still charging my card. I called the gym several more times in January and Michelle was supposed to return my calls. I still haven’t heard from her despite having left over a dozen messages. She never will call back. Now here we are in February 2013 and I spoke to Kevin at Gold's in Crowley, TX. He stated that he needed to talk to Michelle and would call me back. I have tried 2 more times on two different days and left messages. No calls have been returned. I called ABC today (Feb 6, 2013) and they said "We can't help you with anything. If you want to cancel you have to send a letter with 60- days notice." I stated that I had already sent one 1.5 years ago. They said the letter has to be certified or they do not accept them. I was never told that they had to be certified. All I could get was “I’m sorry”. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she gave me the same run around. I explained to her that they have charged me over $900 although I have not been to the gym in 2 years and have provided proof that I live three hours away. She said if I would send 60-days notice they would cancel my membership. Then she stated she was going to look in to my case and return my call. ONE HOUR after I spoke to her they charged my credit card and of course I haven’t received the returned phone call she promised. I am mailing out a CERTIFIED letter, a copy of my lease from 2 years ago and a check for 2 months gym of fees. As soon as I drop that in the mail I’m calling my attorney.

Sorry for the long post, but you do not want to join Gold’s Gym in Crowley, TX or any business with ties to ABC Financial in Sherwood, Arkansas. Both are running a scam. Read the other reviews and BEWARE.

ABC Financial Services scammed!

Abc financial is horrible, do not go through them for anything! Including gym memberships! I signed up for a no commitment membershp at work out world. I paid in cash every month 7 days before my payment was due. Abc financial took money out of my account after i had already paid in cash. I called them the day it happened, and they said they were rebating me right then and there. A week later i called back because i had not gotten rebated and the representative said they had 'forgot'. Since they were taking money out my account it caused me to go negative, which then ontop of the money they took i was getting charged 35. 00 over draft fees. I am now 258. 00 negative, and abc fiancial refuses to pay it, when it was thier fault. I even had the head of citizens write them a certified letter stating it was thier fault, with my bank statments, and they still told me they were not paying for it! They are junk! Do not ever ever go through them. I know many many people who are having the same problem with them. They suck and i will be taking them to civil court for this!

Wow...someone who works for ABC Financial stood up for their deceptive practices. What a shocker! They are modern-day bandits. They rob unsuspecting consumers of their hard-earned cash. But, I am sure they sleep well at night, since they are able to hide behind their contracts which are printed in legal-ease.

ABC Financial Services - unable to cancel membership at work out world gym

My gripe is not with Work Out World gym per se but with deceptive advertisement on the ultimate cost of membership, the customer's ability (more accurately "inability") to cancel membership, the lying salespeople who trick you into joining by saying "you can cancel anytime", and the fraudulent billing practices their billing company (ABC Financial) follow...

ABC Financial Services stealing money

I was a member with Anytime Fitness for 4 years. They took their money out of my bank account every month on time until Nov 2009. They did not take their money for Nov and when I called no one answered or returned my calls. In the Dec, ABC FINANCIAL decided to take 478 dollars out of my bank account. When I finally got a hold of them, then claimed that I owe them that much because of tanning thur out the year. Funny, I paid for unlimited tan. Right then and there, I told them to cancel my account there and That I would no longer go to Anytime fitness anymore. They messed up not me. They didnt even offer me a discount to cont. being a memeber there. So a couple months go by with no problems. Then like a week ago, I noticed that ABC went back into my account and took another 178 dollars. When I called again, then claim that I never canceled my account and that they will not give back my money. Didnt know companies could do this. NOw i dont know what to do. I am so mad

I do realize that having to take care of something you had already before is in no way a pleasant thing to do. Most health clubs prefer a certified letter because this gives all parties involved tracking that this request took place.

Why your membership record was sent to ABC by APEX as an open account? I do not know. - However, documentation showing your account was closed through them would clear everything up.

I'd be happy to review your memberships with ATF and The Edge and send you the documentation you are requesting. Please feel free to contact me directly at [protected] Ext. 1804 or by email at alexm@abcfinancial.com.

Oh please Alex. Don't even start. I canceled my membership to Anytime Fitness BEFORE you were the billing company! Yet, you still charged my account. Then your uber-rude customer servicelessness person told me I had to give 30 days notice. No problem, I had done that already. She didn't listen and immediately threatened collections on me if I refused to pay. That's NOT customer service at all, now is it? hmmmm?

Here is what you do to [censor]ic companies like this. You go to your bank, file a dispute to the charge. Tell them you gave no permission and/or rescinded permission for the company to withdraw funds from your account. That's what I did. Next step, file a complaint with the BBB and your states attorney general's office. Document all phone calls, names, times, etc. Inform them that if they keep calling you, you will file a complaint with the FTC against them for violations of the FDCPA, which I am sure ABC has MUCH experience with.

Here's the nice part for me, 3 years later...THREE YEARS, I get a call because they want to update my billing information. I was a bit confused and told the lady that I had canceled the membership years ago and lived in a different state. Come to find out, somehow, without me even being in the state, being over 6 hours away, my membership card was used, you know, the one that I don't have any more, the one that the gym should have canceled? Ya, that one, was used in 2009, when I was not there!

You want to satisfy my needs Alex? NEVER call me again, one. Next, send a certified (since your company seems to like demanding certified letters as they ALWAYS miraculously loose those that are not) letter that has been notarized stating that I owe you and Anytime Fitness NOTHING!

ABC Financial Services horrible customer service

First off they have the worst customer service ever, that is, when you actually get a person on the line. You are on hold for at least 20 minutes before you can actually speak to someone. I have called several times where the whole place is closed down for "inclement weather". All I wanted to do was terminate my membership with my gym because I found another gym that was a lot cheaper. I was told I was still going to be charged for the full month membership even though my membership was on freeze while I was looking for another gym. I was no longer in contract with them, Iwas past my year contract so it was open-ended which I thought would make it easy to cancel, boy was I wrong. They are famous for being rude to you and telling you "it's in the contract, do you want me to read it to you?' They are so unprofessional and total scam artists. Now I am stuck paying for a gym that I canceled for b/c it takes 30 days to cancel and you need to send a letter certified mail. Why my phone call wasn't good enough for you? And the fact I am past my 1 year contract? Why do I need to stay somewhere I don't want to and get charged for it?TOTAL SCAM ARTISTS!

ABC Financial Services scam!!!

Last month I noticed on the 1st that my membership fees for the gym had not been taken out of my bank account yet like it normally is. On the 3rd I checked my account again and it showed that they took out 39.45 instead of 19.95. I called ABC Financial and they said they tried to take the membership fees out on the 1st and they was "insufficient funds" and thats why there was an extra 19.50 charged. I told them thats BS and that I had the money in on the 1st and even printed out my bank statement and faxed it to them. They told me it would take 3-5 buisness days to hear anything from them and they doubt the fees would get reversed. I called them after it had been 6 business days and they said the bank statement had to come from my bank, not me (which they never stated in the first phone call). Everytime I call I get some bs answer from them. Then this month comes around and they actually called me this time about not having any money in my account on the 1st. I told them there is money in there, the money is always in there and they said they are going to charge me another 19.50 anyways. After yelling at them that this is bs, they finally said as a "one time courtesy", they can give me 60% off the 19.50 charge, but there is a $5 processing fee for it. I called my bank after this and they said abc made no attempt on pulling the funds on the 1st of this or last month or the payment would have gone through. I called abc right away and they said they would fax me proof that they did and i should receive it within a few minutes. Never got it that day so i called first thing in the morning, they said it has to be approved by a manager to be sent and that can take 24-48 hrs but they saw that it was approved and that it had been sent. told them i never got it so they said they would resend it. Four days later, I still have not received it. PLEASE DONT GO THROUGH ABC FINANCIAL! THEY ARE FRAUDS!

ABC Financial Services undisclosed fees

When the new gym came into town, I was excited to finally start my workout routine. When I signed up, as usual we signed the contract and when the second month dues came, ABC financial had added a service fee for $19.50 without explaining anything about the charge. When I called them, their answer was 'its a service charge, because we were not able to charge your credit card' they never contacted me to inform that. Nowhere in the contract it states any amount or percentage for any service charge. They claim that its their right to charge it, as needed, any amount without informing us. This is a total scam. Beware, when you sign up with Anytime Fitness, their association with ABC will screw you and you cant do anything about it, until the contract is over.

ABC Financial Services charging for membership to closed gym

There's an awful lot of complains about ABC Financial and I'm starting with the most recent posting to see if we can make some headway against their practices.

Here's the simple (and hopefully short) version of my story. The Cardio Club in Orlando, FL which I belonged to for 10 years, closed on Nov 11, 2009. I actually saw the owner in the parking lot at 5am that morning and he told me I would receive a letter in the mail giving me options for other gyms in the area including YMCA. I decided to check out the YMCA and compared to where I was a member for the last 10 years, it was unacceptable.

One key point is that in mid-Oct, the credit card that was charged for my gym membership called me and said there was a breach on my account (i.e. unauthorized charge attempt) and that they were canceling my card and sending me a new card in the mail. THANKFULLY, I didn't notify the gym with the new credit card number. The Oct gym membership payment went thru but when Nov charge was attempted, it was declined since the old card was canceled.

As mentioned, I saw the gym owner on Nov 11 and about a week later, I received a past due notice from ABC Financial asking for the Nov payment, late charge and service charge. I immediately called ABC Financial, spoke with Keisha and she told me that the gym had to contact them to cancel my membership. I called the number to the gym, received voice-mail instructions to send email to the (now former) manager, which I did.

I have emailed the former Cardio Club manager, ABC Financial and the Arkansas BBB numerous times telling them I will pay for the 10 days that the gym was open in Nov but since the gym broke the contract with me and not the other way around, the contract is null and void.

Each time ABC Financial calls to try and collect, they tell me my membership was transferred to YMCA. I didn't authorize the transfer so why should I pay? Seems to me like I have a legitimate complaint, right? As of today, ABC Financial has offered to waive late and service charges but they still think I owe them $87. Any insight would be helpful. Makes sense to me but not to ABC Financial.

I have had a similarly terrible experience with ABC financial and they're post here trying to "resolve" the issue is anything but acceptable. My gym, planet fitness, had changed ownership of several select locations. The company as a whole did not close but most of their locations in florida changed ownership and were now YouFit clubs. I had moved to michigan from florida and attempted to transfer my membership. I went to the gym in florida regularly and was not given any notice that they were planning a change in companies. There was probably a 2 week span between the last time I used my florida gym and the time I went to transfer to my new michigan club. I was told that I could not transfer because my home club in florida was now a YouFit and that I was obligated to continue paying dues to YouFit even though the contract I signed was for Planet Fitness even though I had already fullfilled my 1 year obligation. ABC financial would not offer any help stating that the Club has the right to change ownership and transfer contracts without any notification but I must give 30 days written notice if I wanted to cancel. Absolutely unacceptable! I signed a contract with one company and who is ABC financial to tell me who I must pay my dues to. Once the company closed down all contracts should be null and void. I have fullfilled my contractual obligation to PLANET FITNESS and never entered into any contract with YOUFIT. This is a SCAM all day!

John,

We are dissapointed to hear that your experience with ABC Financial Services was anything but satisfactory.
We pride ourselves in the excellent, Fast and Friendly, customer service our company provides.

A gym location closing is almost always an incovenience to the member that is accustomed to a workout routine at the location they signed up with, however, ABC Financial Services would not continue to bill you had a comparable facility not been made available to you.

Though we understand the discomfort in switching to a new gym, no harm can be made by trying out the comparable facility and subsequently making an educated decision on whether to continue your workout relationship with the new club or not.

Should you have any additional comments you would like to discuss, please email memberservices@abcfinancial.com and we would be happy to address any concerns.

ABC Financial Services charged me fees they weren't allowed to

I had so many problems with ABC Financial during my 2 year contract with Gold's Gym. I was supposed to pay 25 dollars per month, and they charged me every month 30 dollars per month then they said that it was because I was not enrolled in auto pay so there was a five dollar fee even though they were debiting it automatically from my account. Then, in November my gym charges me a 30 dollar "enhancement fee". Sadly enough, i was not able to pay this till december and my gym membership as well was forced to lapse for 3 months. I came completely up to date in december and that is where my real nightmare began. I kept getting phone calls and letters and requests when I was physically at the gym to pay. I had to go through 1000s of personal transactions on my internet banking site and track every payment I made and personally audit everything because ABC Financial showed I was 2 months behind when I wasn't. They charged me 28 dollars a month in late fees for 6 months even though I never agreed to pay a late fee at all let alone a 28 dollar one. I agreed if it was applicable (I discovered upon rereading my contract) to pay a 10 dollar NSF Fee if they ever tried to draft my account and couldn't (which never happened). I submitted this all to my gym and finally after two months the problem was resovled. I decided to cancel auto pay and take the 5 dollar hit so I wouldn't have to deal with ABC Financial at all.
I now have another problem. For one month somehow I accidentally missed a payment, and was unable to make it up till the following month, which happened in September. They attempted to charge me 28 dollars for September, and another 28 dollars for October. I told them that I would not pay any late fees since it was not part of my contract. They told me that they had to apply my payments to the past due amounts which is why I was getting to late charges. I told them they needed to apply my payments to the month I designated because I was not going to pay 28 dollars each month for an old missed payment. I also told them I wouldn't pay because it was not part of my contract. I never got a response but I have a copy of my contract and if necessary I will pursue this matter in court. They overcharged me 5 dollars a month for the entire year so they can go kick rocks in my book! I just cancelled my membership so we will see if I have issues with that!

This just happend with me to! and ABC is REFUSING to pay my overdraft fees, even though they caused it. I even got the head of my bank to write them a certified letter stating it was their fault, and they still refuse to pay any of it!

ABC Financial Services health club membership

I signed took my son to NY Fitness because of a coupon in the Clipper Magazine that stated "No Startup Fee, No Commitment and No Gimmicks". It was only $10 a month. Well after two month he didn't want to go anymore. ABC Finanical which handles the payments told us that we needed to contact the club. I did so, the General Manager/Part owner (she pretended to be a regular employee) said only the manager the next day could cancel it. Two months later i receive a letter from ABC Financial saying I owe $10 plus 29.50 in fees on top of that. I sent them a certified letter on 9/21 telling them to close. I called they told me they received the letter and forwarded it to the club. They tell me only New York Fitness can close it.

Never deal with NY Fitness of Palmyra (they also have locations in Lebanon and Elizabethtown PA) Also you shouild not deal with any business that used ABC Financial Services to take payments out of a debit or charge card.
