AAMCO Transmissions violation of the motor vehicle repair act of colorado

March 10, 2010

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter concerning the less than acceptable treatment and business practices of AAMCO Transmissions located at 1 Widefield Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80911.

In April of last year, at the recommendation of my father, I took my car to AAMCO because of a problem with my Volkswagen Jetta. After they looked at the car, they discovered the clutch had to be replaced. I agreed since there was no other option. At that time, I was told the repairs would not go beyond $800. The day I went to pick up the car, they told me there was some other parts and labor that were involved and the cost of the repair was going to be over $1100. I told them then that I was not going to pay for that and I would only pay the $800 I was quoted. The manager at the time said he would bring the price down and charged me $959.

This past weekend, I had an appointment to get my rear brake pads replaced, but upon driving my car didn’t feel safe. I also noticed that my clutch felt loose all of the sudden, however, my car was still driving normal. I was able to pull my car into my driveway and move it for the tow truck company. I got a call from Felix on Monday afternoon stating that the caliper, rotor, and brake pad had to be replaced and it was going to cost two hours of labor. The total cost of this came to roughly $400. I expected that amount. He then told me that my clutch had to be replaced. I received no reason why, but he told me that the clutch was still under warranty-that they would cover it and my car would be ready the following day (Tuesday, March 9) or the next morning (Wednesday, March 10.)

On Wednesday afternoon, I received a call from Gus, the owner. He told me that my clutch was 4, 000 miles over the warranty. That they were going to pay for the clutch but he was going to have to charge me for 5.5 hours of labor which would be $485. I was outraged! How could the previous day I be told that the clutch was under warranty, but now I am being charged for labor? I told Gus that the only reason I brought my car there is because they fixed it before, AND I told him that the previous day I had been told the clutch was under warranty. He said “Sorry, but when we looked into it we found that you’re over your miles, so we will cover the part but you will have to pay for labor”. I didn’t appreciate the tone that he was using with me and I told him to call my father and tell him the details. At that time he said “We’ve always taken very good care of your father. I’ve done him more favors than one.” I have to admit, I probably wasn’t very pleasant with Gus, but I told him to call my father and hung up the phone.

I received a call from my father, Michael Hubbard Sr., and he told me that Gus had told him the same thing. My father stated he would no longer be doing business there, as he took a car there to have the transmission replaced and has had to take it back more than twice with repairs that cost thousands of dollars.

I then went to AAMCO personally. I asked AGAIN what the problem with my clutch was. The technician told me that the car couldn’t even make it up the ramp. This is the problem that I was having with the car back in April when they supposedly replaced the clutch with a brand new one. How could I be driving a car that had the same clutch for more than 8 years and now this one doesn’t even last one? Also, the previous day Felix told me I could drive my car for a couple days and bring it back for the repair, but now the car is not drive-able! Gus came in the office and told me he was sorry that they gave me the wrong quote but he has to “pay his guys” and he can’t do the work for free and he had given me discounts on the brake parts, labor, and wasn’t charging me the $200 it was going to cost him for the clutch. I expressed my ill feelings about being told one thing, but then another. That they should have done their due diligence BEFORE calling me and should honor the estimate they provided. I told him about the incident last April, he blew it off as if my concern about that incident didn’t matter.

Upon taking his statements into consideration, if he is being charged $200 for a clutch kit that is the same as what he put in last April and it is 5.5 hours of labor at $90 per hour, then the cost for repairing my clutch in the first place should have been roughly $600.

In both of these instances, AAMCO is in violation of The Motor Vehicle repair act, C.R.S., [protected] which states that a repair garage may not collect any charge for labor or parts in excess of the estimate plus ten percent or twenty five dollars. In these instances, they should not have charged me more than $880 for the repair in April and no more than $440 for the repairs currently.

I did, however, tell Gus that I would pay and I will honor MY word. He obviously is not going to honor his word or the word given by his employees and I do not want any of the technicians who are working on my car to suffer for that. Personally, I was completely offended by the tone he took with me, the way he managed the situation, and his constant effort to get me to somehow thank him for the favor that he did for me.

I would strongly discourage anybody from patronizing this business. In both instances to be given some hype about labor charges, and the charges being more than quoted and OUTSIDE of Colorado State law is not ethical and is a complete disservice to any consumer, and I feel for the consumers that have patronized this business and didn’t take the time to let other people know, or didn’t KNOW that their rights had been violated.

I don’t expect AAMCO to try to rectify this situation in any way. I’m sure Gus is still waiting for me to thank him for whatever favor he thinks he has done for me. I wouldn’t expect any kind of service after the way I have been treated. I hope this letter serves as an informational tool for those that are looking for quality auto service and this complaint will be filed with the proper authorities to ensure that they don’t handle their business like this in the future. Due to this complaint being filed, I will also have my car inspected at an outside vendor of my choice to ensure the work has been completed in a satisfactory manner.

Unfortunately, I have to report that when I called AAMCO this morning I had a very unpleasant conversation with Mr. GUS SOTO. I was trying to pay for the repairs to my car in the event I could not make it there before they closed OR before they could get in touch with me.

Mr. Soto told me that he will not take any money from me until they fix the car. That he does not appreciate what I put on GOOGLE about him and that he tried to help ME out and I am WRONG. He told me they will call me when it is done, I can come get my car, but he doesn't want any more PROBLEMS with me.

I'd like to also take a moment to THANK Mr. FELIX the customer service manager, who has been pleasant and neutral through this whole situation. In GOOD TASTE, he has apologized to me for the situation but I understand he can only do what the owner allows. I also want to thank the technicians, and the reason I am paying is because I don't want anyone to suffer for poor taste by a business owner.

I don't expect Mr. Soto to be happy about my complaint, but I would expect him to handle it professionally. I would expect him to now understand and realize I am a professional too. Should he want to resolve this matter with me, I will be happy to report and document that with the Better Business Bureau and update all posts that this complaint has been published on. HOWEVER, if Mr. GUS SOTO wants to deal with the situatioin with ugly words, and placing blame-that will be documented as well.

I don't believe in supporting businesses that do BAD BUSINESS. I don't believe in NOT educating people that might walk into the same situation but not know how to let their voice be heard. It's a shame that this situation has turned out this way. I hope that I can come back and report that the situation was resolved in the best interests of AAMCO and myself.

I had the SAME problem with these people!
My best friend was in Iraq and he let me use his truck. Something happened to the truck, mechanically, that was expected. I talked to Gus and we had the truck towed to his shop. They gave me a discount on towing. Got the truck mostly fixed (it's a long [censor]ed story...) and he told me the charge was like $600. Then I told him that my best friends mom would be calling to pay for the truck, before I pick it up. When she called, Gus charged her $240 OVER what he'd told me! When I went down there and talked to him, he 'apologized' and said that he'd "missed another charge". In the matter of ten minutes? REALLY?!
He did a similar thing to my fiance, when he came back from Iraq too!
This Gus character is lucky my bestie didn't go down there and dot his eye for him! But NONE OF US will EVER recommend this shop to ANYONE!

As the business owner I must look out for my business and treat everyone fairly. Ms. Monica Hubbard was advised before the work was started of the fact the clutch was out of warranty by almost 4, 000 miles. She was upset upon hearing this but agreed the vehicle needed to be repaired and approved it. I told her I would not charge her for the clutch kit and gave her a 10% discount on the labor.

Her brake repair was discounted 40% on parts and 10% on the labor. I gave her a rear main engine seal at no charge although the price is $78.00 (our cost) and no charge for the labor.

If Ms. Hubbard is a true professional as she states then she would appreciate and understand my position as a business owner. We don't believe in taking payment before the repairs are done on a vehicle over the telephone on a credit card. I specially wouldn't do this from someone who bounced a check for $245.59 on May 15th of last year.

Please consider the source. No matter how we treat her she will never be happy. We treat everyone fairly and have a long list of very satisfied and return customers.

What happened to quality work and customer service?! We have had issue in the past with AAMCO in our area as well. I know that you mentioned that you do not expect the corporate office of AAMCO to rectify this issue, but I hope that they do.

AAMCO Transmissions rip off

I will have to say that I learned a very very valuable lesson here! This location took me for $2500.00 and over a 15 month period, I have had to bring my vehicle back to this dirty so called transmission shop 5 times. This last time was for a torque converter that burned up due to the fact that they rebuilt my transmission the first time with a rebuilt torque converter that they swore up and down that if they were to install a new one, it would cost me thousands of dollars! Lie lie lie! A new one that is even modified out of the box is only $450 all day everywhere. It is a family run organization that has had its share of complaints as I found out thru the bbb and google online reviews. The lesson learned here is to always go to the dealer!

AAMCO Transmissions fraudulent practice

I took my recently purchased car to them to have general service . I had driven the car for 3 days prior on highways and city traffic. After an hour in that shop I get a call stating there was no trans fluid showing on stick, and codes and they needed authorization ; which I gave . After 2 hours I get another call ; now I need to have transmission overhauled @ $2300 . I declined and advised them I'd pick up my car up . I then pay $155. and ask the servive advisor to show me the trans fluid level. When we get to the car pop the hood and guess what ? there is no dip stick . I ask how did they read and was told they have a gauge( ok I bite) I then proceed to drive away and now my dash board is lit up like a christmas tree with check engine, electric code etc.. and to make matters worse now the transmission is slipping . I call back the advisor states possibly the codes appeared due to the scanning performed. Next I call the Customer service * must leave a message *
My next call is to the State Atty generals office * They will never touch any vechicle I own!

AAMCO Transmissions rip-off scam

I want everyone out there to be aware of the scam this shop tries to pull.
I dropped my car off at 8 am and at 9:30 am I received a strange phone call from the shop which consisted of "Has anyone been messing around with your car?" well no except for Jiffy lube and pep-boys for repairs here and there. Why the question with no reason to ask I thought? I also thought is there something weird you have found I should know about? Well this will make more sense toward the end of my story.
I recently had a situation where the check engine light came on and the car had trouble accelerating and shifting out of first or second gear. I was told it was the transmission by another mechanic and he suggested taking the vehicle to AAMCO or to the dealer. I chose AAMCO because they specialize in transmissions. I was informed by AAMCO that they had checked the car diagnostically and the codes were for the transmission however they were not ELECTRICAL codes but rather MECHANICAL codes and the trans would need to be taken out of the car, taken apart and possibly overhauled costing no less than $1500. When I said no thank you I will be in to pick up my car I received a phone call from the store serviceman about a half hour later offering me a "feasible alternative" which he was "confident would have the car problems solved". The story suddenly changed as far as what was causing the trouble with my car. It was no longer a mechanical problem located on the inside of the transmission but rather a problem with the solenoid sensors on the outside of the transmission. But the catch here was the solenoid sensors are located (according to him) in a panel on the outside of the trans which requires the trans to be removed from the car in order to access these solenoid sensors. Seriously? Suddenly went from mechanical to electrical but this would only cost me at least $800. I politely declined and proceeded to drive 15-20 mph all the way to Lincolnwood Illinois where the car dealership is located.
It turns out the car dealership said I do not need a new transmission nor new solenoid sensors nd the transmission. The car has some wore out wires which run along the underside of the vehicle that had been pinched are spliced and corroded and need replacing. Fixing it at the dealership did not even cost 1/3 of what the AAMCO shop wanted to charge me. The dealership price also included a new O2 sensor and installation along with the price of the diagnostic workup.
I wonder if the AAMCO noticed these wires and that was the reason for the question regarding has anyone been messing around with your car? Even if they did not notice this I believe they are incompetent and do not know how to properly diagnose a vehicles transmission problems or just plain crooks out to take as much money from consumers as they can by pretending to conduct unnecessary repairs on vehicles. It is a shame thet someone would try to take advantage of another person like this. This shop lives up to the stereo-type given to auto mechanics regarding ripping people off. I want to share my experience so hopefully this does not happen to anybody else.

AAMCO Transmissions aamco sabotaged my car!

errible, awful, horrible place full of dishonest untrustworthy people to be avoided at all costs.
The Aamco store located at 6629 Lomas Boulevard Northeast, Albuquerque NM Lomas Street in Albuquerque NM 87110 had my classic Ford with a four-speed manual for literally 3 months attempting to repair a leak in a recently rebuilt transmission which was installed at the Aamco store at 68680 Ramon Rd.

in Cathedral City, Ca 92234.
Despite being given literally thousands of dollars to completely rebuild the transmission, clutch and U-joints, neither the Albuquerque store, nor the California store ever fixed the problem or took responsibility.
When I first picked it up, and took it home it did not take me long to notice it leaked about a quart a day. Then, after a several week "repair", the car drove seven miles before blowing a front input shaft seal and dumping quarts of fluid into the clutch. Ruining it. Then, after another few weeks, I was again told to come pick up my car. This time, I drove it for a few days and it now it occasionally engaged BOTH first AND reverse gear at the same time. So, again it went back to Aamco. They spent another two weeks trying to fix the sticking in gear problem, and told me to pick it up for the fourth time. At which point, during the test drive with the head technician named "Mike" in the car with me, it had a new vibration so bad you wouldn't drive over 50mph on a dare. The tech swore it was normal even though the car never did that before. When I complained, I was threatened by the staff and told to take my car home despite it not being repaired. So, I took it home. I had spent almost $3000.00 and now it is worse! So, I immediately reported the case to both BAR and NM attorney general. The Albuquerque NM Aamco store blamed the other California Aamco store and so forth, and the car never got fixed, and I never saw that money again.

AAMCO Transmissions sabotage vehicle

Absolutely, positively the worst service I have ever had, at any buisiness of any type, in my life! Seriously, take your car anywhere else! These guys permanently screwed up my four-speed ford manual. Five months with car sitting at their shop and $3000.00, aamco never fixed the damn thing. So after being utterly disgusted with them, I gave the car to one of goldenwest community college's auto techs, and he fixed the car for $75.00, and pointed out numerious items aamco had tampered with for no apparent reason. Case reported to bar and nm attorny general.

That is completely factually untrue, and it is my opinion that you knew that already. If you had actually checked; it would be virtually impossible to not have found the attorney general for the entire state. The current attorney general of New Mexico is Hector Baldaras, his office is in Santa Fe on #408 Galisteo Street, his phone numbers are: [protected], [protected], and his fax number is: [protected]. Now, as far as the complaint filed with the Bureau of Automotive Repair, California is where the transmission was originally installed, so I filed with them after checking that they do in fact have jurisdiction in this case. If your interested in making amends I will gladly provide whatever copies of the paperwork you want, but if your goal is simply to try to invalidate my complaint, save your breath. It DID happen and I have ALL the paperwork and photos required to prove it. The shop you now own, did in fact break a standard Ford 4-speed manual transmission that was installed by Aamco Cathederal City California, and then after months-and-months of waiting, attempted to refuse to fix it, and then finally sabotaged it so you wouldn't have to fix it at all. It happened, I can prove it, and I will absolutely positively NOT tolerate any ridiculous insinuation that it didn't. John, you are the NEW owner and I hope you do better with the shop then the previous owner did, but you don't get to erase and re-write the past.

Thanks for following up, I've been through hell with a 2007 Dodge Durango, seven trips, over $5000.00 and the truck shifts worse now then it did when I brought it in. I will be following up with the NM attorney general! Thanks!

AAMCO Transmissions - the truth about free engine check light on

Hi Everyone, We are really pissed off with AAMCO. Our car (98 Honda Civic) had a Engine Check Light On, so my husband called AAMCO and asked about Free Engine Check service (as we saw the add on the TV) KEN (the guy at Lake Forest, CA location) said bring your car on Monday at 8:30am and we'll check it. My husband took the car on Monday and KEN said it...

AAMCO Transmissions destroyed our transmission!

My husband's transmission went out on his 2004 Subaru WRX. We had it towed to AAMCO where they told him that it was a clutch problem, which my husband knew was wrong. They told us they would take it apart and look at it, then call him the next morning. My husband ended up calling them the next afternoon because they never called like they said they would. After days of them telling us they would call and us having to call them when they never called back, they tell us his front differential went out but they couldn't get the part. In the mean time, my husband found a Subaru shop to work on his car, so he had AAMCO box up all the parts and we once again paid $100 to tow the car to the new shop. As soon as we got the car there, the owner looked over the transmission and said it was not the front differential that was out, but the center differential, which is an easy fix and you don't even have to take the transmission out of the car! Also, they spilled transmission fluid all over the front fender and left big, greasy hand prints on his matte black hood (impossible to clean!) Since they completely destroyed the transmission, we still ended up having to replace the entire transmission. We called AAMCO about a possible refund for what they charged us to take apart his transmission and all they could offer was a credit toward a future repair. Like we would ever bring our car back there for them to destroy!

This pertains to AAMCO, 9880 Main Street, Woodstock, GA

I can't stress enough to residents of Woodstock, Kennesaw, Acworth, Roswell - do not take your car here. You will come face to face with an insolent, snarky, dishonorable, incompetent owner who could care less about you, your car, or anything other than himself, and you will drive away spewing transmission fluid all over the highway. Trust me on this.

Go here instead - Aamco Marietta, 1702 Cobb Pkwy SE, Marietta, GA, [protected]
Ask for Mark McGregor, and you will have one of the most pleasant and helpful experiences you've ever had in a repair situation that is normally very worrying. Mark and his team are exemplary with their concern for you, the integrity of their shop and the skill and knowledge in which they conduct their business. They have been there for almost 30 years, and there's a reason why their location has five-star reviews all over the Internet. They went way beyond what was expected to help me and my car, and I wish I had gone to them in the first place. Now I know.

AAMCO Transmissions rip off

After two vehicle inspections, new brakes, a tune up on my truck, and an oil change, I was informed that there was an issue with my transmission. My truck was sounding like it was getting stuck in gear. I was told one day before taking my truck in to AAMCO that I had a non serviceable transmission. I called Aamco and told the guy the problem and he said that it sounded like the differential and not to drive. He sent a tow truck out at no charge. I backed my truck out of the driveway for the tow man to drive it on the truck. Once the car got there, it was confirmed that it was the differential and the cost would be $3056.29. It took me almost 6 wks to pay the total cost. I picked my car up and found that it was riding exactly the same, with the exception of the ABS sensor light now on in my truck. I called back and was then informed that there were 2 problems with my car and the one I had complained about hadn't been fixed. They stated that the rear end was locked and they had to fix that first and if I wanted to fix the problem that I had complained about, I could bring it back in. I asked for a detailed list of everything that was done on my car and the name of the tow company so that the tow truck driver could verify how my truck got on the tow truck, proving that my car was drivable. I am still waiting for that response.

A year ago they put in a new transmission for 2500 dollars. A year later the transmission had problems and was not shifting. Basically it did not get out of 2 gear. I took the car in on a friday. Next Wednesday, I had not heard anything so I called them. They never called to update me, and when I called, they acted like they didn't know what vehicle it was. They charged me 80 dollars initially to look at it and told me that it was an internal transmission problem. To find this out I had to call them thursday, and friday, mind you, I had to call them, sometimes they called back, but I had to initiate it. They said that to diagnose the internal problem it would cost 1000 dollars, that does not include fixing whatever they found. I expected them to offer something since, their transmission that they put in was junk and broke after a year. horrible customer service. It took a week to tell me that it would be 1000 dollars to diagnose the problem. They would not stand by their work at all. That is a ripoff.

I took My 2003 Tahoe to Aamco after getting estimates from several companies. They were the only company willing to finance the job. The Original quote with converter and transmission was around 3, 400 plus the financing brought the total to almost $4, 000. $1, 000 down and 250 a month for 15 mths. Now I didn't do the math at the store office when i signed, but that's more like $4, 700. Ok I say, as long as it works I NEED my vehicle.

After 10 days the call finally came..ready to go. I picked it up and it ran great for 1 1/2 days. On the way home from work it made a horrible sound in the front, then started making a very low chirping sound all the time. I took it back, they told me the converted had engaged the 4 wheel drive inadvertantly. It was broke, they replaced it again and again called me to pick it up. As I pulled out of the Aamco parking lot My truck made another horrible noise and the chirping was still going on. They took it back again to check it out. New diagnoses...the Rear end was busted. Another $1, 500 and they would have me good to go. Well, now it's been almost a month and I still don't have it back yet.. I keep getting the runaround on the phone. We are still working on it. They guy who was working on it got sick went to the hospital had metal in his eye. Still waiting to hear from customer service.

I can see but the research online that this problem is not over even when I do get my truck back..Is there any help out there? What can I do... I know they BROKE my rear end with their faulty converter...HELP... over $6, 000 for REPAIRS? And I get the Run around?

July 26, 2010 took my vehicle to AAMCO at 950 Frelinghuysen Ave. in Newak, NJ. Informed AAMCO employee Justin of problen with transmission. Justin say's "It's definately the valve body." I say alright how much to fix it? Justin said $500 and it will be done at 2:00 p.m. today. Told Justin to go ahead and fix the problem. At 2 p.m. I called to see if the vehicle was ready, Justin told me that it would be done in another 20 minutes. 30 minutes later, Justin calls and tells me that when they went into the Trans that there were some springs broken and that more repair was needed. If they really fixed it when I brought it in at 10 a.m. that morning, why didn't someone call when they saw it? They are scam artists. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS AAMCO! My vehicle is worse than it was before I took it to AAMCO at 950 Frelinghuysen ave. in Newark, NJ. Justin had the nerve to tell me that if I had another vehicle that needed some work to bring it in. This place really bites!

I took my car in for an oil change and asked them to give it a once-over. I was told that the brakes were completely messed up and had to be replaced -- the pads (which the manager said was down to bare metal), the rotors, and the calipers. I was told that I was in danger if I continued to drive it. The estimate for the bill was $600 and change.

I took it to one of my co-workers, the same guy who had fixed my car after Stockton Ford s____ed the pooch (that's another story). He took apart the brakes and found that the brakes were a little less than half worn. Bare metal, like ***! And, there was nothing wrong with the calipers or rotors.

I went to Aamco's website and submitted a complaint. They wrote back and told me they would investigate. That was a couple months ago, and I haven't heard a word from them since. So, here I am, warning the public. The thing is, it used to be a great shop when the oldmanager was there. I had recommended them to other people even -- too bad the new management got greedy. I don't suffer fools gladly.

I took my 2000 Dodge Durango to the Aamco in Douglasville GA on Fairburn road. I was told the man that I was having transmission problems. He told me that I need to have my transmission rebuilt. The cost to have my transmission rebulit would be 1600.00 So on tuesday june 21th I tdropped my truck off to be reapired. Then on Thursday June 23th I recieved a call from the man at Aamco saying that the cost had gone up to 2, 289.70 to rebuild my transmission. because once they open my transmission it needed more work odne it then expected. I told him that I couldn't not afford that and that wasn't the price quote that he had given me on Tuesday. He claimed that it was the cost of the parts and that he would all around to see if he could find something cheaper. He later called me and said that he couldn't find cheaper parts and that was the cost of the repair. He said that if i had the title of my truck I could do a title loan, Aamco work with a title loan company. I declined and said that I would be coming to get my truck that afternoon. He said that I couldn't come get my truck until I pay 500.00 for labor and they had to put my transmission back in the truck and I would be able to get it until monday.( I was never told about t 500.00 fee until then.) On friday june 24th I called again and told them that I was coming to get my truck and he said that they weren't going to replace my transmission until I pay the 500.00. So at this point they are holding my truck for RANSOM ! I just want my truck back so I can take it somewhere to be fixed...I WILL NEVER USE ANY AAMCO COMPANY EVER AGAIN

I agree Aamco SUCKS, I had diagnostics done on my 2002 Hyundai and was told I needed a high speed sensor replaced, lets do I said, I was told it would take 3 hours to install this sensor so I left car at Aamco Transmission sevice center located in Monrovia Ca, when I returned to pick up the car my check engine light was still on plus I have no reverse gear now and all my friends know my car had all gears working when I left home this morning. AAMCO Transmissions not guaranteeing the warranty

I can completely empathize with this customer! The FWB AAMCO shop should be avoided if you do not want to needlessly spend your hard earned money on needless repairs to a shop who is unresponsive, not professional, has no idea what they are doing, and lies to your face without thinking twice! This shop is one of those nightmare shops you are warned about and should be blacklisted by the AF and the local community! There are better local shops who are honest and deserve your money BUT NOT AAMCO OF FWB!

Aamco of Fort Walton was never contacted by this customer or another Aamco on his behalf concerning a warranty repair. This statement is completely false.

AAMCO Transmissions poor transmission service

Transmission failed while still on warranty. Took the car to Rubens AAMCO in Moca, PR. They have had the car for 37 days! During this time, after a full month, the car was returned to me with the transmission "fixed". I drove the car to the store, and the transmission failed again the same day. I had to have the car towed back to them. The manager of the repair station, which is an AAMCO branch center, rarely returns my phone calls when I inquire as to what is happening with the car. He constantly comes up with lame excuses as to why it is taking so long. This is a ridiculously long time to repair a car. Oh, and the center keeps changing phone numbers. The number shown above is the latest one.

AAMCO Transmissions overpriced

Earlier one thursday morning i went to two auto body shops to find out what was wrong with my 2003 kia sorento i couldn't drive it and noticed my emergency brake light and the battery light was on i then opened the hood and saw that the belts were all off track, Both auto shops said that it was my harmonic balancer and that it needed to be replaced, the two shops also quoted me around the same price of 200 dollars for labor plus parts. Since i am a member of homeandauto with road side assistance i called them and they located the closes aamco in the area.My car was towed to aamco on 9584 fm 1960 w in houston, tx. by homeandauto my auto security plan who has a contract with aamco and offers a 10% discount on all repairs done to my vehical. The manager said that he was swamped with paperwork and would get to my car the next day but wanted to know if i knew what was wrong with my car and why i had it towed, I explained to him that two other auto shops said it was my harmonic balancer and that i could not drive it. Early the next morning he called me and said that my car would need a internel dignostic to determind what the problem was with my authorization he could do it for $475 and plus the cost of the parts.Which he said i authorized. I never gave him authorization and not knowing he had already disassembled my car. I then called aamco corporate office and left messages of my complaint i was contacted by customer relations who was trying to persuade by argument that i authorized him to work on my car. I had my car sheduled to be towed from aamco and they would not release my car until i pay $475.The next day the manager called me said the parts was installed but the car was not running correctly and that my timing belt would need replacing which total an additional $885.he said he could everything for $1600. i told him i did not authorize him to replace my timing belt and asked what was the owners name and phone number which he said they do not give out the owner's number to customers and i owed him $708. STAY AWAY from this aamco, the manager raises the cost of parts to make more money a straight up cunn artist.

Nationwide Companies will always find an excuse for unreliable an overall bad service. I heard everything but I will always be reluctant about anyone. Also, I think every company just want to maximize profit by spending less and not doing all the job so you can come back and pay more. How many times can you be a pray for people like that. I had my own bad experience with AAMCO but I will accept it was my mistake for being naive and believe that was some honest people in this world. Now I agree AAMCO is overpriced and will do anything to not honored a warranty. To make matters worst will make you feel like you are crazy because you are protecting the investment on 2, 500.00 you spend with them.

Unfortunately, this customer is only telling part of the story...

The customer took his car to two other shops, which both told him that he needed a replacement engine, as the harmonic balance had damaged the crankshaft, and this was this only solution. We asked the customer to bring the car in so we could look at it.

As he mentioned the harmonic balance was partially broken, and stuck on the crankshaft. We called and asked the customer for authorization(labor time) to try and remove the balancer and assess the situation. He did authorize it, and we have the voice recording.

The balancer was broken, and the end of the crankshaft was damaged due to be driven in this condition. Yes, he could replace the engine, but we suggested that we get a replacement balancer, and try to dress up the end of the crankshaft. There were no guarantees that this would work, but there would be no way to know until we had a good harmonic balancer. We advised the customer of this situation, and also advised him that the part was special order, and could not be returned. If it did work, he saved a lot of money. If it did not work, then we had the balancer which was needed anyway. He elected to proceed knowing all of these issues. This call is recorded as well.

After receiving the balancer and trying to install it, it simply would not go on the damaged crankshaft. Only the tip of balancer was exposed, and there was obviously damage further back on the crankshaft which was behind the seal area, which could not be seen. . We advised the customer of this situation. We offered him two options: Do nothing further and stop, or teardown the front of the engine to get to the area of the crankshaft behind the seal. we quoted the customer the additional labor for this. We also advised him if the hidden area of the crankshaft was damaged, that he would need to replace the crankshaft, which would be a worst case scenario. Either way, this work would have to be done to replace it, so nothing would be lost. He was quoted the additional labor cost, and what the total cost would be if a replacement crankshaft was required. Call recorded as well.

The customer elected to go no further than trying to install a harmonic balancer on a damaged crankshaft; all risks he was advised of and recorded prior to any work. Even the cost of replacing the crankshaft was less than half of what the two other shops quoted him for an engine. As he declined to do no further repairs, we recommended that he not drive the car, and have it towed to prevent further damage.

In summary, we did nothing more than what the customer approved. The customer was advised of all risks prior to starting, and the call were recorded. Anyone is welcome to come by; we will gladly show you that this customer is being less than honest.

Manager

AAMCO Transmissions horrible service and poor ethics

Took 3 days to tell me they did not have a part and charged me $200 in labor that included
re-installing the transmission, but when I got there it was still on a table. When I first arrived there I heard a Tech named Michael telling a lady on the phone how good women were in taking care of their cars and how bad men were in the same regard. I should have left right then. When I told Michael that I needed my truck no later than Saturday( three days earlier )he initially said that was not possible, but when I said I told him I would call him back after I spoke with some other repair shops, he called back within one minute and said " I called someone and we can have it ready Saturday." He then called Friday afternoon with the "no part story." The dealership I called quoted me $300 cheaper than Aamco's quote for the exact same repair. I sent a tow truck there to pick up my truck after paying the unjustified fees. I believe these people are dishonest and unethical.

Mralyce seems like he/she may be related to Mike. I had dealings with them as well and they charged me for "office clean up" or some garbage like that. Mike explained that these are charges they get from OSHA. OSHA? I dont own the shop and there waeren't any oil or fluid changes made on my car. He wanted to fix everything BUT what i asked him to fix. I agree, not sure Mike know's chit from shampoo...that's why his hair stinks

I just had a transmission repaired at this location. While the transmission seems fine, I have fluid leaking from underneath the car. This will be my second time taking it there within 30 days. The owner, Michael Pringle, is professional yet I do not beleive he has the mecanical ability to determine the issue. The jury is still out with this company. I will post an update once the take a second look at the car this week.

I agree with the reply to the unjustified cost of putting the transmission back together. How many times have I taken my vehicle to a shop and been told I can get it within two days or two hours or whatever, and it took longer. You can only estimate a day or time that work will be completed. Some people expect operators of shops to be God and get everything fixed instantaneously. That just doesn't happen. If we would put ourselves in the other fellow's shoes. What's your occupation? Has everything always turned out the way you expected it to or told your customers or clients that it would? I doubt it. So the next time you implicate the dishonesty of a person, think!

This is interesting. I found this complaint using an internet search engine to find the phone number for the AAMCO shop in Snellville, GA on Highway 78. I just took a second car in to the shop for some major repairs and regular maintenance too because I was so happy with the service after having taken my wife's car in twice. Both times my wife's car went in the engine light was on and we wanted them to diagnose the problem, halfway expecting it to be a transmission problem. The first time a minor sensor needed to be replaced and the 2nd time I was told it was a small leak in the emissions system, more than likely the gas cap and not worth spending money on unless it doesn't cycle itself off (which it has done in the past). That's two chances to screw us that were not taken.

I notice your post was discussing the unjustified cost of putting the transmission (?) back together when they couldn't get the part? I agree that saying they can fix it and then not getting the part would be frustrating but sometimes it happens. Charging labor to take apart the transmission is normal even for diagnosis. I think you're assuming that the shop operator said he could get the part knowing that he actually could not. If that were the case that would be a bad business practice. Its entirely possible though that his supplier said they had the part and then ended up not having it. Given the honesty of the shop owner that I've experienced I would find that much more believable.

AAMCO Transmissions bad clutch job and broke sensors

5/21/09 Took my 96 Nissan Pathfinder to Aamco in Arvada, CO for a new clutch because the bearings were making noise. 5/27/09 picked it up and paid 978.13. Drove a few blocks and heard the same noise again. Took it back and they said to drive it a week and the noise would stop. It did not. Took it back and they kept it a week and said they could not hear the noise. I picked it up and while driving out of their parking lot, it made the noise so they heard it this time. But the Manager was not there so they asked me to bring it back on a Monday. I did, they kept it a week and could not hear the noise again so did nothing. I went and picked it up and it made the noise in their parking lot but this time the Manager heard it. They kept it another week and replaced the clutch again. This time I asked for the bad clutch back and they said they had to send it back to the manufacturer since it was faulty. I noticed the check engine light as I was leaving and they said they unplugged everything (must be fuses) and plugged it all back in so just drive it and in 25 miles, the light should go out. Spent the next 2 weeks driving it and having my husband and brother check out the check engine light. Hooked it up to a computer at Checker Auto and it showed the crankshaft position sensor not working. Spent hours trying to find where the part is to replace it because the owner manual said there was a heat shield to remove first from the left side of the transmission near the bell housing by the starter. Ended up paying 48.97 for the part and taking the SUV to High Tech Auto in Arvada (on 8/18/09) who charged me 98.93. They found the part and said the heat shield was so mangled we couldn't recognize it and the crankshaft position sensor was cracked. They said (quote) "Aamco pulled the transmission to replace the clutch and did not remove the sensor first so they broke it." This Aamco in Arvada, CO treats their customers poorly, does not care about their work nor your vehicle and does not know anything about transmissions even though that is supposed to be their focus. The engine light was on and they did not check it and they hoped I wouldn't notice. The worst part about all this is I had to pay extra for parts Aamco ruined and they took many weeks to replace a clutch. They blew my trust in the service and knowledge as mechanics. When I went on-line to find where to post this complaint, I found hundreds of complaints against Aamco Transmissions across the U.S. I also found a General Aamco web site that says they will check your vehicle for you when the "check engine" light comes on because they have the tools and knowledge to do so. Just Shocking. I will never use an Aamco again and I will never refer anyone to them but I will make sure I warn everyone about them. I want this complaint filed for all to see because the Aamco in Arvada is running a bad business and scamming people out of their hard earned money.

AAMCO Transmissions $4,000 job gone wrong

In February 2009 I took my car to Aamco to replace my transmission. The gears were slipping that caused the car to jerk. They put in a used transmission and assured me that my car will be in complete working order when they are done with it without any problems. About a week later I received my car back and it seemed to be working good until the next day I felt the jerking in my car again. I called them and they said to bring it back and later said that it needed another used transmission. So I was stuck without a car for another week and had to rent one. When I got my car back for the second time, the SAME problem happened. But this time I took it to my original dealership to get their advice on what was going on with my tranny. This is Audi by the way. Audi said that the tail shaft of the tranny that Aamco had put in was leaking! So I took it back yet a THIRD time and they said they just had to adjust some things in the tranny to stop the jerking and leaking.
Now for the third time, I had to rent a car for a few days again. When I got back my car, the leaking was fixed but a few days later...the jerking starts again AND my starter was making a buzzing noise when I started the car. I was so furious when I had to go back a FOURTH time. This time, they blamed the jerking on the computer in my car and its not their fault. They also said that my starter is going bad because my car is an old car. Mind you, it is only a 2000. I was fed up when they told me all this and told them that I am reporting them to Aamco headquarters which I'm currently in the process of. I am also getting a lawyer to get all my money back hopefully. I paid then $4, 200 for this crappy job! NEVER GO TO AAMCO, PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE!

AAMCO Transmissions total scam dont ever go to aamco

Hi my name is D, I am having a problem with an AAMCO auto repair shop, located in queens, ny. I own a 1999 ford expedition, which had a check engine light on in the dash and also my A/C system was blowing warm air. I visited the aamco on june 24th, I spoke a man who claim to be the station manager/owner named "marty " he asked me what was the problem with my truck and i explained to him that my check engine light on in the dash and also my A/C system was blowing warm air. He told me that he could check the car, but that it would take about two hrs, and would have to leave him the truck. i arrived at his location at about 9:10am. I returned to the location and my car was still in the same parking space that i had left it. He didnt have anyone look at my car until about 1:15 pm. thats when i was told that they were not sure what was wrong with the car and that i can leave them the car and they would call me when the figure out what was wrong. I did not hear back from the shop for 3days, and they told me that they found something wrong with an engine valve"evr" which cost them 40 bucks as stated in reciept and that my A/C condenser had a leak. marty stated that since it was saturday there wasnt much that can be done. Marty stated that if i wanted to i can pick up my truck and use it for the remander of the weekend. when i returned monday at 8am which is when the shop opened, marty told me that since i ownn an extended warranty thru us fidelis, he would contact them and see if my repairs would be covered. Marty did not call me the entire day with any information. I called Marty about 8 times and he claimed that he was left onhold for 20 min and that he did not have time to waste, so he claimed that he left us fidedis a message for someone to call him back. I called the warranty company back myself and was able to reach them right away. I asked the person to please call the repair shop, so that marty would give them the results and we can move foward with m y possible claim. the company called the shop and told marty that they would cover 500 towards the A/C unit and not the valve. marty still did not let me know what was said until I called him for the 10th time that day. marty told me what the company would cover and that i would cover the rest. I asked him how long would it take because i really need my car and that i would have to get a rental, he said dont worried that by tuesday morning the work would be completed and my a/c would be working. the work was not completed until july the 3rd. when i went to pick up the car the a/c blew cold for about 2min and the check enegine light was no longer on in the dash, i went into the office and made the payment. when I got back in the car the a/c had stopped working and started blowing warm air once again.also my car started
shaking and even shutoff 2x on its own. i told marty who inturn said hey u can leave the car here for us again and pick it up on monday. i explained to him that i am still paying for a rental and that intotal they have had my truck for almost 2 weeks. he told me that my truck must have something else wrong but that he did what i paid for which was just change the condenser and that anything else was on me. i told him that doesnt make sense and he said that he has nothing else he can do for me. That my truck must have what he called an-underlined problem which they cant figure out yet. I told him to just refund my money which he sad "no way will i ever give u a refund as i said my work is done. I told him to look at this situation as a human being and not like a business man which he inturn replyed to by saying I am and since u think that I am looking at this like a bsiness man then u owe me 89.99 an hour for each hour that my worker has been looking at your truck since this morning. So now im out 351 from a rental 902.00 for the repair and my car still has no a/c. and now my check engine light is back on in the dash I can not afford to be ripped off by some con man. Stay away this place is a scam and the manager/owner is very rude. I really want to know can I sue them, and how do I go about it? anyone else with this drama please let me know.

I just had an experience where I left my car for about 7 hours at an AAMCO in Decatur, GA and the "manager" never looked at the car even though he promised to have a diagnosis by 3pm. His statement was to the effect of don't drive your car hard and bring it back tomorrow. Sad company!

AAMCO Transmissions terrible company

Aamco Merriam is a prime example of why this website was created. Don't spend a dime here. I wouldn't let these people touch my car again for free.

We took our car here because we suspected a transmission problem and noticed their 'free' diagnositic test offer. Well all that means is that they drive it around the block and then tell you you need to pay for the $100+ to hookup it up to the computer for the real diagnostic test.

We fell for it and paid for the diagnostic. The diagnostic test indicated that the vehicle need a tune up ($400+). I questioned the employee 'John' because the issues seemed more significant than a tune up would fix. I was assured the tune up would fix the problems. Keep in mind this is a 2001 vehicle and we were at the point of not wanting to spend a lot of money on it and were comtemplating just getting rid of it. After the $400+ tune up we were then told that the vehicle actually needed a new catalytic converter ($600).

As you might imagine I was upset at this point. We would have never spent the $400 in the first place unless we were told it would fix the problem. I specifially questioned 'John' about this prior to the work being done. After the fact he claims that he told me that the tune up was needed to even see what the problem was. LIE, LIE, LIE. Again we wouldv'e never OK'd the $400 tune up. At this point I'm questioning the point of the $100+ diagnostic test that apparently can't diagnosis anything. I expressed my unhappiness to 'John' who is also apparently the customer service guy (that is hilarious...) and they offer $100 discount on the catalytic converter. No thanks, no way I'm paying these guys another penny. How about a refund on a portion of inflated tune up costs?!?! 'John' also wouldn't tell me who the name of the owner which is interesting on it's own... This place is very shady please don't waste your time and money here. Please also do an internet search prior to having work done here. I wish we would have! There are a number of other people with similar issues/problems.

AAMCO Transmissions terrible company

We took our Honda CRV to their shop because the car would hesitate before shifting and then clunk when it finally did. AAMCO said we needed to rebuild it so they did. The car still had the same issue when they returned it. Two weeks later the whole transmission when out and stranded us. They rebuilt it again and the same hesitation problem was there. We kept taking it back and they would give us a runaround and not repair it.

The transmission went out again and we took it to another shop and had the transmission replaced with a used one. The new shop said the overdrive switch caused the hesitation and replaced it. The transmission probably never needed rebuilding. We tried to sue in small claims court but AAMCO got their attorneys to move it to a district court. We had to hire a lawyer and go to hearing and to court.

We lost since we signed AAMCO's agreement each time agreeing to their service terms. We ended up paying AAMCO for ruining our transmission and attorney fees. And then paid another shop to replace the transmission that AAMCO worked on twice. I would never recommend anyone go to AAMCO since they have inexperienced mechanics and don't stand behind their work.

I've had such a terrible time with Aamco also! I was quoted $900 for a rebuilt transmission and ended up paying $1847.13! These peopel do not stand behind their work. They are money hungry and liars. If your transmission is out...run don't walk out and get as far away as possible. In retrospect, I should of done my homework! Now that I have my car back I have a transmission leak!
