Fifth Third Bank / 53.com supervisor demeanor

I contacted 5th Third Bank Mortgage Department about waiving my late fee as an active duty military service member. I have signed up for the four payment recurring method via ACH debit each month. The first person I spoke to stated they could not help. I politely asked to a supervisor. The supervisor was officious, unhelpful and when I asked to make a suggestion to the organization (to extend the recurring 4 payment method to indefinite), he talked over me, became extremely belligerent, and very aggressive on the phone. I'd like to continue doing business with 5th Third Bank but unless this issue is addressed, I will refinance my mortgage as quickly as possible.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com payment holds

I just received a letter from Fifth Third today telling me that there is a hold for 9 days on my Fifth Third HELOC, as I just paid the outstanding balance down to zero from my Fifth Third business account to my Fifth Third HELOC account. And, I did this in person, at a branch office. Correct me if I am wrong, but this payment transfer was made from an available, verified balance in a Fifth Third checking account to another Fifth Third HELOC account-- both in my name. It's completely an in-house transaction, and Fifth Third writes to me that for "payment verification reasons" the credit on the HELOC will not be available for 9 days. How incompetent does a bank have to be to take 9 days to clear moving money from its right hand to its left hand. If I were to have gone in and asked for the money to be wired OUT-- they would gladly do that instantaneously (for a $30 fee, of course).
Customer service manager (Willoughby Sexton [sp?]) tells me that this is not crazy, but written in the contract. It's policy. I received absolutely no empathy from Willoughby-- just by the book, take it or leave it.

I'd like for Fifth Third to be taken to task for such a crazy policy. I don't understand how they can do this-- especially to longtime, 22 year customers (and 6 years business customer).

I wish I had contact information for P. Brian Moore, VP at Fifth Third, as I'd like to tell him personally how upset this makes me, and how I will begin shopping for a new bank tomorrow.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com provisional credits

For the last 2 months I have been in 5/3 Bank more than I care to be. I have filed 2 complaints with Fraudulent transactions and was given Provisional Credits. Today, I was charged back $89.28 plus a $37.00 OD Fee as they stated they have an Electronic Signature on a piece a paper. A company I don't even have a phone# for. Angry does not even come close to where I am right now. I was having my checks direct deposited, so that will cease immediately. I will now be looking for a new bank as I cannot deal with a bank that says we have a piece of paper with an electronic signature, so we will honor it. Doesn't that give you alot of faith in the banking system? Good luck to all who continue to keep your accounts at % 5/3. Please do not let this happen to you.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com being waited on

I have (goiing to be had) a checking account with Fifth Third bank and tried to get waited on during my lunch hour at the 161 N. Clark branch in Chicago at 12:30 PM on 10/16/15. I waited 15 mins as they only had one male rep who could help me and all he talked about to a customer in that entire time was about a Hawaii and Costa Rica vacation, nothing about banking. I walked out and am now closing my account, if I can get waited on, and this isn't the first time their service has been anything but helpful.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com unreal... faulty atm ends with overdrafts totaling $259

On August 19th I tried to make a deposit via the ATM at the branch near my business and was unable to because the ATM was not working. I also tried the morning of the 20th on my way to work and the machine was unable to accept deposits. My account as a result was overdrawn and had a negative $71 because some items cleared the previous day. Fifth Third is not like Chase, with a very limited number of branches or accessible ATM's it limits your banking options. The overdraft fees totaled $259 on my small business account. I contacted the customer service number and the branch, explained the situation, you would think that if they had excellent customer service they would've made me whole again. I was offered the possibility of reversing up to 3 of the overdraft fees which would be $105, well I'm still out of a whole lot more for something that was an inconvenience to me as the customer. I can see one charge for $35 maybe I wouldn't have made such a fight about it but $259 because of faulty equipment. I will be taking my business back to Chase once this nightmare ends. As a small business owner every cent goes back into our business, I don't have anything to give to the bank. So far with only being a customer for about 6 months this was the worst decision. Stick with Chase or another bank but avoid Fifth Third at all costs. You will end up being the one paying and regretting it otherwise.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com extended od fees

Was recently charged 64.00 by Fifth Third Bank for what they call "extended overdraft fees" ; they threatened to close account unless i got it current ; yesterday i read an article that says that there are lawsuits being put together against banks under the premise that these fees constitute usury (interest charged illegally) ; the article references an attorney in florida who is looking into a possible lawsuit. Call me if you want his info. [protected].

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com they don't care

Tree fell and knocked down power lines. Duke had to shut of electricity and told me when I hire a licensed electrician, get permits, get the line put back up and have it inspected, call us and we will turn you electric back on. Banked with 5/3 for ever and had same job, with direct deposit into 5/3 for 12 years. Credit score was good 664. I needed to do a $3000 loan to cover cost to get electric back on and they were going to take automatic withdrawl. Was told i was approved and could have the money in my account by the end of the day. I said, slow down, i'm not sure IF i need the full $3000. I was told to call back the next day and let them know how much was needed and i would have it by the end of the day. So the next day i called and said i decided i needed $2500. Ok, you will have it by the end of the day. He pulled up my name and said oh, you were denied. WHAT? You already approved me! Well, it's been denied. So you mean i faithfully had automatic direct deposit from my 12 years at the same job deposited into this bank, and you are going to take out the first $100 dollars every month AND i have a credit score of 664? and i was denied? He said he'd see what he could do and call me back at work. I had to call before i left work at 4 and he was gone for the weekend already and didn't call back. So Monday after several attempts he took my call. He very friendly asked how my weekend was. I said "how the hell do you think it was?" It was cold and dark since i couldn't have anyone work on the electric since you denied someone who has a credit score of 664, 12 years of same job direct deposit AND you were going to take the first $100 a month payment AND you had already told me i was approved. I said 5/3 doesn't care about the customers at all.
He said, and he works for 5/3 said "No they don't" But he wouldn't even fight for me and wouldn't even tell them what i needed the money for. They don't care at all.
8 days now and no $$ to pay so i am w/o electricity.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com unfair practices

I went through 5/3 Bank for a mortgage which I did get, but I had to move my checking and savings accounts there with direct deposit. In 2013 the bank offered a program called Early Access, which is nothing more than a payday loan scam. In order to repay Early Access they take your direct deposited paycheck and pay the Access. Well what happens is when you get your paycheck the bank takes it then you have to re-borrow in order to pay your bills. Then of course the total of Early Access increases to the point where your tapped out, and they are taking your whole paycheck leaving the customer penniless. Now, here is another thing, when your paycheck comes in they leave it in your checking account until bills that you have paid start coming in then they transfer it to Early Access and begin hitting you with overdraft fees. My overdraft fees for 2014 have gone 15+ fold over 2013`s. 5/3 Bank is not customer friendly and soon as I can dig out of this quagmire they have put me in I want nothing to do with this Bank.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com unfair fees

When I opened an account with this bank a few months ago, I was told that I had twenty four hours to put money in the account if I were to get a negative amount. If the money was not deposited within that time period, then I would be charged a fee. Well, I got a small negative that showed up in my account on the 9th. I put the money in to take care of the negative. Well, I was charged a fee anyway. This made absolutly no sense at all. I tried speaking to someone about this but he talked around the issue, Anyway I have closed my acount and I will never deal with this bank again.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com dormancy fee

I left some money in my savings account when I moved to a different state. I also provided the bank with my new address. After a few months, I called to close to the account and I was advised to come in person to do so. Given the distance, I never made it back to Ohio. There was no local branch in my new state. I forgot about it and recently while on travel, I saw a local branch in Florida and decided to close my account and withdraw my money. To my surprise, the account had been automatically closed last year and all the money had been eaten up by the bank under the pretence of dormancy and maintenance fee. The manager refused to help out and asked me to call customer service. I was told that the bank normally sends correspondence out but could not prove it. There was no communication to me in this regards over the years and when I called the customer service, I got the same response after a 30 minute conversation with the rep and her supervisor. This bank is a fraud! They steal your hard earned money. I told the rep on phone that why would anyone knowinlgy leave their money in their account and let someone keep stealing it. If I had received any communication regarding this, I would have done something sooner and not just sit around for them to steal my hard earned money! Bunch of scammers!. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK!

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com restricted account transactions

I received a letter from P, Brian Moore, Senior Vice President of Fifth Third Bank. Didn't understand it so took it to thee
Fifth Third Branch in Boyne City, MI for explanation. An employee told me it had to do with writing too many checks
on our checking account. I've never heard of such a thing and wasn't advised about this before I paid numerous bills
for my Mother who is in a nursing home.

This is shocking and has caused upset here.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com check hold scam

Closed on current home and immediately deposited check. Told they would place hold on funds for 10 days or until they could verify the availability of funds. We explained that we needed funds 1 day sooner to purchase new home. Bank manager assured us she would begin calling the issuing bank that day to get funds cleared. Three days later we are told "she's still trying, getting voice mail, etc". I called company that issued check and they sent me a photocopy of check that had actually cleared within 4 hours of our original deposit. Did I mention that we had several accounts with Fifth Third for over 25 years? So, bottom line us they hold large deposits simply so they can keep the interest for themselves and then lie to customers about the circumstances. No regard whatsoever for long time customers. The best part? They made sure to add the total amount of the "held" balance to our daily average balance (even though we had zero access to it) so they could then inflate our monthly service fee which is based on average daily balance. Wow - and this is legal?

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com early access and credit card fiasco

I have been with fifth third bank for a very long time never had major problems with them until this year and the product they call early access. I am stuck in it and I think they should have alternative routes for loyal customers. I called to give suggestions and they actually told me that the early access is actually done in year 2015, well if you are ending it because of how much chaos it's causing then help us out of it please like do a separate account to let me pay it off slowly or something. Then I go to the branch and try to get a loan and couldn't so the personal banking gentleman suggests to use my credit card for like gas etc. I said ok. He sent it out to my Indiana address like 13 days later still no card called call center and they send it back out today is 10th business day still no cars ... pretty upset now the gentleman says he had it sent to the branch and will be here by Tuesday ... really ? Fifth third in my opinion needs to reconsider the way they treat there customers and how to help them out! I know they aren't like Amazon where they can refund or credit you but come on how is this world ever going to get better when people can't get out of situations like this ?!

I totally agree that 5/3 Banks Early Access is nothing but a scam to cheat it`s customers out of their hard earned money. I have been assessed over $ 3000.00 in overdraft fees just since July with over $ 900.00 just in October alone. Get as far away from this bank as you possibly can, and do it quickly...

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com unable a wire transfer

I have been using Fifth Third as my primary bank for personal savings and checking accounts, but had successfully negotiated a mortgage refinance with another company. I needed to wire closing fees in order to close and secure the tens of thousands of dollars in interest savings the refinance was going to give me. Fifth Third would not perform a wire transfer via phone or internet. They insisted I go in to a branch. This was an impossibility because due to a work trip I was 450 miles from the nearest branch. I had to take a cash advance from my credit card (serviced by a competing bank) and work around Fifth Third's ludicrous policies. If this bank cannot offer internet banking in an internet age, they are a liability to do business with. Their inability to perform a simple wire transfer nearly cost me a very personally lucrative refinance.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com screws customer

I deposited a check on a Saturday the bank teller informed me that check would be clear by the next day which I thought was odd but I figured a professional bank teller would know. Sunday comes and the money is not available I called the bank which was open on sunday and they said check would available the next day which was Monday. I spent the money I had sunday due to the understanding money would be available monday the money was still not there Monday and fifth third bank would not do anything to help a loyal customer of 5 years even though they were misinforming their customers.

Every time I go into this branch they are short on help, often there is only one person working the teller station. I would think this is unsafe, and when I ask for a manager, the manager is never onsite, or even available.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com deposit hold

So earlier today i used my debt mastercard issued by 5/3 bank to pay for a medical bill that i had received after a car accident. I did this knowing that it would pull my account negative but since i was going to the bank later that day to deposit my settlement check from the car insurance company i wasnt concerned about any overdraft fees since i knew the check would be enough to bring me back into the positive. The problem was that when i went to deposit the check they told me that since my available balance showed negative that they had to place a ten day hold on the check and that because of the amount of the check (Only $3400) they would have to place any other deposits (Other than a payday deposit) into a ten day hold as well until the large check clears (This includes cash deposits). So since i only have one paycheck between now and then and its not enough to bring me back into the positive i have no money for 10 days. After i left the bank i called their customer service department and explained the situation and they told me that there is nothing they can do and that it is a federal regulation to place a check on hold when an account is negative.

I know it is normal for a bank to place large checks on hold for a couple of days but i have tried to deposit larger checks then this with 5/3 and never had a hold of ten days and i have had many other banks in the past and had many similar situations in the past and i have never had an issue with a check being placed on hold when i made the deposit the same day as the overdraw but to also make it so that i cant make any deposit with out it receiving a ten day hold is completely unreasonable and i fully intend to change banks as soon as i can.

I made a deposit of $4, 000 in pay on a local bank, from a local company, from which I had made numerous deposits over a period of years. My account has a history of such deposits. Citing previous overdrafts, they held the check for 10 days, causing me all sorts of problems, as I did not anticipate any problems with this deposit. Before you judgmental holier-than-thou jerks start preaching about managing an account, just be advised you have no idea what kinds of financial problems can impact a person until it happens to you. Sxxt happens. In such case, your bank should be your helpful partner, not add to your problems. It is their power to be helpful. That is how it used to be, and still is with some banks. I know this to be true, so take your condescending comments elsewhere. Anyone reading this, I advise you to never open an account with 5/3. They lie. They are unethical. They act like it's their money. They are the most fee-happy bank ever. Their lower-level employees are incompetent and their middle- and upper-management are dishonest. Be forewarned. The 5/3 employees I dealt with were, by turn, incompetent, disengaged, arrogant, condescending, robotic, impotent, and dishonest. I wish I had come to this site before I opened an account with them, as it is a hassle to change banks. But worth it.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com poor customer service - rude

I was at the County Clerk Office today because the I needed to get the title of my parents' car. Their computer showed that Fifth Third still had a lein outstanding on it since 2005 which I knew was incorrect. The car was paid off at least 6 years ago. I called on behalf of the Gov't office and Greg of the title office insisted that he would not fax them the information until he got my executor of the estate papers. I insisted it shouldn't matter who I was and that I had already submitted all of the proper documentation to the Gov't office. The Gov't office are the ones that needed that last bit of information because they already had all of my stuff. We knew it had to be a mistake because it was from May of 2005. This error was made from Fifth Third because they never sent the information into the State when the car was paid off . After waiting an hour and fifth-teen minutes, I called and was put on hold another 15 minutes and Linda tells me that Greg does have the paperwork but that it is going to take 24-48 hours to review. I was furious! What is there to review? My paperwork is none of your business. Your only concern, is the bank had a loan and it was paid off. Just fill out the sheet and and put the date when the loan was paid and all of this would be over. There is nothing to be review ! But Greg and Linda want to be so insensitive and extremely rude that they aren't even thinking about the situation. It is the County Clerk's Job to make sure they have the prober paperwork. It is your job when a loan is paid off to notify the State. But if you don't do your job, then send the information to the County Clerk office quickly so the customer doesn't have to be inconvenienced anymore. It is absolutely asinine to be told it would be 24 to 48 hours. Greg was being extremely rude and insensitive knowing that I told him my Momma got caught up and couldn't get out of the house fire. The office closed so now I have to make 2 more trips all of the way back downtown. Terrible CUSTOMER SERVICE! If Fifth Third Bank, would have done their job in the first place...none of this would have happened!

Wow, it was your parents stupidity that they didn't follow up with their loan satisfaction. I see the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in terms of stupidity. I feel sorry for the poor employees of the bank having to deal with a pomppASS, selfish, irrational witch. Aww, poor little baby had to wait a day or two for the bank to find the paperwork that incompetent mommy and daddy neglected to rectify. Poor little girl. Two trips? I hope you can handle the tramma.

Please seek professional mental health . You obviously are about to crack . If mommy and daddy would of done their job, you wouldn't of have to experience this horrible event.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com cannot change the address by phone

I am very disappointed with this bank's service!
We have a business checking account with 5/3 bank since 2005. Recently our business moved to a new location in Charlotte area. I went to one branch office located in Harris blvd. to update our address in last week. I was told that our address had been changed. Later on I called the 5/3 bank's hot line [protected]) to confirm this address changing, and I was told that it is ok.
However, I found our new address was totally wrong when I received a confirmation letter from 5/3 bank yesterday! Then I called that hot line again to make another change. A manager (ID: MSROTS92) treated me very tough. He insisted on asking me to provide the exact address of the branch office when I opened our business account. But I cannot remember that. I told him that I can provide some recent transactions occurred in our checking account, but he rejected my requests. I cannot believe that this is the service provided by 5/3 bank! I would definitely close our account if this problem could not be solved with my satisfactory.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com ridiculous fees for in bank transaction

I have a small business checking account attached to my regular business checking which is my self funded overdraft protection account & I use it to have my company shipping charges directly debited from it. I went to my local branch and had the teller transfer funds for me between the two accounts. Simple enough. You would think. Instead, a whole month later at the end of the statement period they tacked on a $25.25 service charge fee. My account was positive so I called the 800 # and asked about it. I was told it was the fee they "always" charge on business accounts for the teller to do the transfer instead of me going online and doing it myself. And get this I was told it was in my paperwork I signed when I opened the account, which was about 3 years ago. I was told I knew about this and so its justified. Its true when there is an overdraft situation and the bank has to initiate the transfer there is a fee associated with it. My accounts were NOT overdrawn. This was not an overdraft situation. I was just transferring money. Now I've been chasing this around for almost 4 days and supposedly twice it was fixed and then I was informed the person who kept me on hold to fix it both times did not have the authority to fix it! What a circus and they still have not returned the erroneous fee. If this is how they make money and what they pay their workers for its an embarrassment.
