This company calls me on my job no fewer than 6 times a day. Currently I owe for last months payment and this month's payment goes past due on Friday. I will pay these people. In the meantime, although they have an alternate number for me, they call me at work. I work in a call center and can not make outgoing phone calls unless I am on a break. The call and leave me multiple messages and if I don't call back soon enough they call my co workers (our number are in numerical order by desk). I have some people coming to my desk that don't even know me to tell me that my bill collectors are calling about my car or they have asked my bill collectors to stop calling and they won't. This is unbelievable. I don't care much to talk to them because they say things like what is more important to you eating or driving to work? They have threatened to come to my job and take the car and then how will I get home. That is really unprofessional for someone to say. They need to be stopped. I have asked repeatedly that they stop calling but they wont.

An account manager from Consumer Portfolio Services, Inc. called me about my account which was 47 days late. She refused to give me her name and constantly told me I need to make a payment over the phone. After asking for her name 6 or 7 times and being told I didn't need her name I asked for her manager. She asked me why I wanted to speak to a manager. I told her I have asked for her name several times and she is refusing to give it to me. She said “is my name going to help you make a payment?” I again asked to speak with her manager. She told me her name is Ms. Duval, so then I asked to speak with her manager and she told me she was the manager. She repeatedly told me I need to make a payment over the phone even after I had already paid for 3 months(January 2008, February 2008 and one month in advance March 2008) earlier that day. She continuously asked me questions about the vehicle, where the vehicle was at, what condition it is in, what the mileage was suggesting they where going to repossess the vehicle. I later called to speak with a supervisor and spoke with Mr. Egan who told me that I was 47 days late and the account managers are not going to be courteous. I asked that my account be assigned to someone other than Ms. Duval and he said No, I don’t get that choice. He said CPS is a company that works with individuals with bad credit and the reps don't have to be respectful. I informed him that I made a 3 month payment today and he said "well, excuse me for not rolling over and saying thank you." I told him not to call me at my workplace anymore and he said "you gave your work information when you acquired the loan and I'll call you anytime, anywhere, any place." I told him I would contact a lawyer and he said "go ahead, we are regulated by the F and some other letters (I can't remember the letters I was crying and upset) and we have not broken any laws." My husband later called and spoke with someone that was very apologetic but, did not ask for any identifying indicators and told him everything there was to know about my account, which if you ask me is a breach in confidential laws. Later that same day Ms. Duval called back my residence harassing my husband and said "you can afford a lawyer but you can't afford to make your car payments?"

I've contacted a lawyer and I hope I have a law suit and Ms. Duval might be paying my monthly payments.

This company is a JOKE everyone that works for this company is a JOKE and I encourage everyone that has a story like mine to send your information to an attorney for a free consultation.

I have been dealing with this company also since 2006, they are a pain. Even when your not behind or have sent a payment by Moneygram, they still harrass you. I have requested a payment history from them for the last year. I was told they do not have a form for that. LOL. I suggested a screen print which would do just fine, however still nothing. I have requested an audit of my account, still no use. I would also love to see a class action lawsuit get going or something to stop these people. I would be willing to help in any way.

CPS is the worst company ever!!! I lost my job about a year ago and was a month behind and I called to try and set somethign up with them and the women was VERy rude. She told me that they had to have both payments "now" and that if i didnt pay it I would be "taking a chance" and wait and see if my truck was gone in the morning!! RUDE then about 6 months later I fell behind again and told them I would send them one payment that is all I had. the women asks me "well dont u have a job yet"? I said "no I am staying home with my 2 small children" she tells me "I think maybe u need to get a job". I told her "I tink maybe you need to kiss my ass and dont worry about my life bitch"!! Then I told her that I was hanging up now and that my husband would be calling her boss when he got home. When my husband got home he called and after about 30 mins he finally got the boss on the phone and told him that we were making 1 payment because that is all we have and if he didnt like it come get it and if they want their money they better learn a little. Cause being rude will not get them their money any faster.

I agree with every last single word on this page. I just received 5 phone calls from CPS, while the first two messages were pleasant, the last three were horrible. I was in a meeting and couldn't get to any of my phones and during this time they called 5 times and harassed my co-workers. That is extremely embarrassing. All over (ready for this) LATE FEES! I find it so hard to believe that the law could side with such a unprofessional group of thieves such as CPS. I was reprimanded by my boss for the personal phone calls at my job. If I lose my job, I sure has hell will not be able to pay at all.
I know that each of you had your own problems with them and mine are the same, but in order for the law to work I am going to have to prove that I took measures to alleviating this problem. The first thing is I am going to send a letter to the to stop the phone calls at work. I don't mind them calling me at home, but my place of employment is off limits. One writer above mentions that the FDCPA does not apply to CPS, but that information is incorrect. I work for a collection agency and next to the officials of the FDCPA and it states in section 805 that NO DEBTOR CAN CALL YOUR PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT IF YOU OR YOUR EMPLOYER HAS VERBALLY INFORMED THEM OF THAT THOSE KINDS OF CALLS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED. Therefore you can have your employer write a letter or speak to the collection operator and tell them to stop calling and they MUST. This rule applies to CPS also!!!
I have gotten to the point that I don't answer and let them leave messages...I have enough sense not to go to battle with them because of their unprofessional approach on getting a debt solved. With the information provided above, I now know why this company harasses people because they are not to far from going belly up, and I assessed that from looking at the financial report. I am truly sorry that any of you had to go thru this, bad things happen to good people sometimes and CPS takes advantage of this and tries to treat people inferior if they cannot make payments on time, or send the amount they feel you need to send. I pray that they are revealed for what they really are and soon. As for me I am doing my best to get rid of the car I have now and trade it in on something else with another company, but with the negative equity in my current car its been difficult. If anyone decides that they would like to pursue any of these claims, please count me in. We will only be effective if we work together.

Yep call early.. call late... call on Sunday...

They take absolutely no record of correspondence or comments you make to them..

I'm saddened to see them profit so much because my credit took hits thanks to a bad mechanic destroying my previous car.

Evil company... even the mafia is kinder when asking for protection money.

The collection act needs to make it clear that companies aren't trying to contact you.. they're trying to embarrass.. just like asking for 8 references... so many good people have bad credit thanks to slimy health insurance companies...

I know folks who haven't had a bad break can be uber judgemental.. I hope they wind up having to use CPS someday.. then they'll learn.

Every story i read is true and exactly what has happend to me. the only difference is they repo'd my car. My mother got the car in her name for me. They went and ask question of her neighbors about what kind of car she drove and lord knows what else. They didn't know my address or phone number, but they called her at work and at home. They even went as far as to tell her supervisor that if she didn't put her on the phone that they would call her manager and talk to her. They kept telling my mom that i owed 2 payments, i know i didn't, i was only one behind but they were adding may to april and thats where they came up with the 2 payments. I made arrangements with someone named kendra and she gave me until april 30 to make another payment. They came to my house and got the car about 4am on tuesday morning the 29th of april. They must have followed me home to find out where i lived. I say i'm better off. They are nasty, rude and unprofessional. They scream at you on the phone and tell you that you are driving around in a free car. They yell so much you can't get a word in at all. I'm seriously thinking of getting a lawyer to see if a law suit can be filed. Someone should be able to do something about them. Good thing i don't live in irvine.

All of you need to record these conversations or messages and file a complaint with the states Attorney General. Also the Attorney General for the state you live in, if different. You can send CPS a letter (make sure you get it certified) and tell them they can no longer contact you by phone. If they continue to do so you can sue them. Even if you don't sue them right away, you will at least have all that evidence if you choose to in the future.

I had the same problem. Be sure to also keep track of all calls even the ones you are not able to record. They called me at work 43 times in a row one day and each call went through a switchboard to get to me. My boss was mad and it caused problems. I also had a problem with them calling from day one and saying they did not get my payments. It would take them 3 weeks or more to cash the checks I sent so I started sending them certified and it was interesting to see that they were picked up and signed for the next day. I think they just do this to people so they can report negatively on credit report and keep people in high interest vehicles. I went to NIssan and bought a car and they were shocked that my interest was 18% with CPS.

If you can't get an attorney to take the case, we should all get together and find one that will file a class action law suit for their illegal collection practices. I also had problems with CPS collection workers calling me from their cell phones from somewhere in Illiois.

If everyone files complaints with the Attorney General, BBB, Federal Trade Commision, and any other agency that will listen, they will eventually do something.

I agree with K Payne...instead of b%#$*ing about this, I say we all get together and file a class action law suit. They still call me during work hours (even though I sent a fax to the effect for them to cease).

Now I admit that there are times when I am late (but I always make it up within the following 2-3 wks), and I am not perfect..but there is such a thing as common curtieousy and following the law.

Seriously people, start recording calls, saving your phone records (because they list incoming calls), and make sure you fax or send them a notice to cease calling you during work hours (keep the transmit sheet for your fax or if you send by mail..send delievry confirmation and return receipt).

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I was laid off due to the recent economy and they will not work with you. They demand bank account info and call all the time. They continue to call my references and are rude to them. These people need to be stopped. I would rather walk-especially with the gas prices- then drive anything that is financed through them. They make enough money off of us poor souls who had to go with them due to credit issues- with charging the crazy interest, the misc fees, late fees etc. I empathaze with all who are currently dealing with them.

Wow! I wish I this site had existed 10 years ago. I've read through all the complaints and had the same issues.

Ten years ago I had bad credit and needed a car, the salesperson got me a loan through CPS at some obscene interest rate. Had a couple of run ins with CPS about late payments, they repossessed the car, i paid all their fines and fees and finally paid of the car.

Fast forward to now and I checked with credit reporting agencies to verify that the repossession will no longer be on my credit report, i disputed it in April of 2008, i was a month off. It was suppose to come off on May of '08. Well, i get my report back and CPS tacked on another 10 years. Stating, "This account is scheduled to continue on record until April 2018." IS THIS LEGAL??!!!

I've tried to contact them and I can't seem to find a phone # for them. If someone has a phone number or anyway of contacting them or any suggestions I would appreciate it. I cannot believe i will have this on my record for 20 years.

Thanks and like i said, wish you guys were around 10 years ago.

all u folks sound like dead beats who dont pay their bills there is no such thing as 1 and a 1/2 car payment you sound like you were two pmts behind and you got calls to take car of your financial responsibilities and you did not liek it so you are sounding off online. CPS is a sub prime lender they do not have to follow FAIR DEBT COLLECTION ACTS You bad credit non bill paying irresponsible fools should be glad that you got funding in the first place talk about ungreatful. deadbeat loosers are always looking for ways to get out of paying thier bills, you cannot be professional with thieves who buy cars lie at the dealer to get them and they they do not want to pay their car note. you guys sound like loosers, and crybabies be thankful that someone gave your tired asses a loan and pay your fucking bills ontime and stop bitching tell whoever they think they are who wants to give legal advise to you in this forum to shut the fuck up sub prime lenders do not have to follow no fair debt collection act if the company is maintaing thier own accounts they are not a collection company they are accts recieveable

MAN, I'M SO GLAD I FOUND THIS SIGHT! CPS HAS HAD A MALE CALL MY HOME AND CALL ME BABY AND THREATEN ME SAYING THAT HE WOULD BE CALLING AS MANY TIMES AS HE WANTED AND AT ANY TIME. I DID GIVE HIM A PIECE OF MY MIND AND WHEN MY BROTHER WHO IS ALSO IN AUTO RECOVERY GOT ON THE PHONE AND TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW FOR HIM TO ADDRESS ME IN THAT MANNER AND THREATEN ME THE GUY HUNG UP ON HIM. ALSO THEY HAVE CALLED 9-10 TIMES A DAY AND WOULD LEAVE THE RUDEST MESSAGES AND THEY CALLED MY GRANDPARENTS AND DEMANDED THAT THEY SEND THEM MONEY FROM THEIR ACCT!!! F** THAT! I CHANGED MY NUMBERS AND I AM GIVING THE CAR BACK TODAY! AND I WAS ONLY LATE ONCE!
THE CAR IS NOT WORTH IT AND THEY CAN HAVE IT BACK! THEY ARE THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH AND I WILL GLADLY TAKE THE HIT ON MY CREDIT, AND I WOULD ADVISE EVERYONE WITH THESE PEOPLE TO ALWAYS KEEP PROOF OF PAYMENT BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T THAT WILL COME BACK BECAUSE THEY WILL SAY THAT IT WAS LATE OR NOT RECIEVED AT ALL. Been there through all of these! There has maybe been one polite person that I talked to with that company and that was about a year ago and He probably left them if he knew what was good for him...
Get this one on top of all the harrassing calls at home, work and my referrals also getting calls they are liars and impersonators.
Back in May I was 1 payment behind in their terms which would be on time for any other company and this is because I "sold" the car to my mom so she was to be making payments but didn't so as I said I was a little late making a payment. Don't you know they call me at work and ask about the payment and I said the check was in the mail and refused to make a payment. Then another person called same story I said they would get their payment in 1-2 days I had sent it. Then I receive another call from a "state trooper" in Ky telling me that my car will be repo'd today and they need to know the exact location and I went on to tell him that there was no need for that they would be receiving the money and I had talked to them telling them this...then my brain kicked in and thank the lord for caller ID the number was not from KY and so I said to the "OFFICER" so if you are calling from Kentucky why is the number showing up not a KY area code, his reply Oh really---CLICK hmmmm yeah I didn't think that was right impersonating an officer THAT IS ILLEGAL
So I called them back and said they just did that naturally they denied every bit of it...But I am finally free I just made my Payoff payment today to end my ties with them forever..My husband said now when we pay it off we will call them EVERY DAy 12 times a day until I receive MY TITLE...

I can't believe how similar my situation is. Cps has also harassed me at work several times a day also being abusive to my co worker and calling her a liar . I wish I had never gotten involved with these hoods. The relentless calls to my home cell and work and family. They call me and immediately start the attack. I fell behind by one month due to sickness . The are rude and the most ignorant people i have ever talked to. After calling me at work and yelling and calling me names I told her to call my husband . This bi-- called my husband and he asked her when are you going to pick up the car ? she said she wasn't and demanded the payment . My husband informed her that we no longer want the car and do not want to do business with them any more. This woman then called me back at work and said she was going to garnish my wages . I informed first she must get a court order to do so and some more arguing and yelling went on between us and by this time I was furious enough to b slap her if I were close enough to reach her. By the way I have worked in the same medical center for 8 years. She then proceeded to call me names white stick which i have no clue what this street slang means. I think they are a bunch of racist working there as well as uneducated unemployable bottom feeders that no other company would dare hire. Last week they called and threatened to repo my car if i didn't pay them western union right then i told them please do. My husband is retired medically and I am still working however due to medical bills and unforeseen events i am filing for bankruptcy . When my husband informed her of this she said you are liars your not filing for anything give me your case number and lawyers name and of course i gave her a name and it wasn't that.

I agree some how all of us should be able to file a class action suite and shut them down. We have pretty good senators in michigan so I am planning on writing to them and my attorney general maybe I can get some where. There are other finance companies out there that are not like this one. This does leave a bitter taste that just doesn't go away. It amazes me that this company can skirt so well around the law and still stay in business. Whats going on out there? Why hasn't this company been put out of business and why are dealerships still using these people.? Maybe we should target and name the dealers that deal with these people I'm sure they are aware of there tactics and its any thing for a sale.

I have had them call and misrepresent themselves as a tow truck company dispatcher . Wow the lengths they will go to. By the way there so called recorded calls my husband asked them to play for him don't exist after all why would they record themselves abusing a customer ? Good luck to all of you I will let you know if they ever pick up there car .

They do the same to me. My payment is due on the 5th of each month. They have actually called me on the 3rd to see if it would be on time. If its not they start calling me on the 6th to see why it is late. In the 4 years I have had a loan with them I have had ONE only 1 of their employees treat me like an actual person the rest treat me like some piece of dirt. Its insane! I am a middle class American who like everyone else is struggling right now. I hate CPS. And I have told all my friends no matter what NEVER get a loan through these people.

I can add on to the list as well...my car payment is due on the 9th if I don' pay it that day they are calling me on the 10th at my job that is crazy. I know that I have a 10 day grace period and my payment is not considered late until the 19th. I have asked them to stop calling my job and they told me by law that they can call me if they want or they can just pick up my car.I have tried to call the BBB on them but no actions taken. I cant wait to finish paying off my car so that I don't have to deal with them. The reps there are very unprofessional and when you ask to speak with a supervisor they all say that they are always in a meeting which I find very odd.Something needs to be done this is not right.

CPS what a finance company they are very unprofessional, I called to surrender my 2003 ford explorer because I cant afford it rite now and Mrs. perry homes from the repro department told us that they need proof of income to see how much I made to see if they could repo it or not, and when I refused to give her that info she told me that I could keep the car and they were going to sue me. she was really rude nasty, she also told my wife who is authorized on my account why is she calling and that she did need to call no more. I have told them to come and get the thing several times and they refused to do so.they are calling my friends house and harressing her even though she told not to call back. I also told her that I was sending a letter of surrender and she told me to keep my letter and wouldnt give me a fax # to send the letter. cps is a joke and I hope to get something done about this problem and the company.

I am very sorry to everyone who has had trouble with them.
This is my first car loan & it is through CPS. I had never established credit because my attitude was-- if i cant pay cash for it-- I don't need it... well... I couldn't come up with 16k for my car.
It was to my understanding CPS takes individuals that are higher credit risk. I always pay my bill early and add $40-$200 to the payment.. I have never had a problem. I am sure they have always delt with people who were the same as me--"high risk" and are so used to repossessing vehicles bc people simply don't pay their bill. I don't agree with the harassing calls at work or the rudeness-- but I haven't had the experience.
I have had my loan for a year- and never spoken to them... I guess all in all-- if the bill is paid on time and the account kept current people wouldn't have the problem of harassing phone calls. I am a single mother and sometimes $$ is hard to come by... but I manage.
