CIC is billing me monthly for a service I do not use, do not need and can't seem to stop. I will call them, write them, report them to the BBB and to the attorney general. Shame on CIC!

You all have nothing to complain about. Had you been observant while signing up for the service and also read the terms and conditions, you would have seen that the free service only lasts 30 days - after which time you would be charged a monthly fee. Not unlike a lot of other free offers. Now, as far as cancelling your account, read the Terms and Conditions page again and you'll find a toll free number to call - 1-888-829-6560. They were very friendly when I called. However, you have no foot to stand on for retrieving your $12.95/month. You signed up for it.

These people suck. I just called to cancel my "alleged" $14.95 monthly subscription that I NEVER signed up for. They actually offered to lower the monthly fee if I stayed with the program. I had to repeat myself over and over and over...

Morons.

It is free credit report. The first 30 days are free then they charge per month. The number given in the previous comments does work to call them up and cancel.

Here is my 2 cents on this: yeah yeah yeah the fine fine print is there when you get you sign up for your so-called "free credit report", but the truth is, this is more like a scam, let's make it so convoluted and NOT so clear that we're going to CHARGE your account, so all you idiots can sign up in hopes that you don't notice the charges adding up. Then, we'll just tell you, you can't get your money back cause you didn't read the what you were signing up for! SCAM!!!

Same problem, getting charged for something I don't want. The phone number actually showed up on my bank statement so I called to cancel yet still get charged. Major Scammers!!!

I just realized that I am paying my 12.00 a month and for what everytime I go to the site to look up my credit report it wants to charge me again - what the hell am I paying monthly for! Now it looks like even if I call them I will have problems like some of you have.

My husband and myself totally agree with all of you. We had two charges three days apart from each other for $14.95 a piece. We thought we could get online check our credit score for free and never be charged for it. Unfortuantly this was not the case. I will never use this people again and neither will my husband or famiy.

I have been having the same problem and couldn't figure out what this was for. I just got off of the phone with them. After a little over 10 minutes of him trying to convince me to keep the service, which I found out I had 3 separate services, and offering me a discount on the cic service $7.99 a month, he finally cancelled it. I'm going to wait to see if anything comes out of my account next month.

how can these companies get away with this treatment, when and if you get somebody on the phone, they cant help its a one time charge and i might add they never speak clear english so as to further confuse the matter

Just called 877-481-6825 after being billed $14.95 this month on my credit card from a "CIC Triple Advantage" which I assume is the billing company Turbo Tax works with. They said they would cancel my subscription and the lady said that they would not continue to charge my card each month. She told me that since I didn't read the disclaimer blah blah blah that it was my fault. Oh well..at least I realized it before it had gone on for a few months. Be sure to ask for a confirmation number and they will send an e-mail to you as well. Good luck!

I also was taken in by this crock and it was not until I ran into a similar problem with a $49.95 charge from Realtytrac.com how this scam works. By definition we cannot call it a scam. Unwittingly signing up for information from a service without knowing that there are places out there you can get this information from for FREE does not make it a scam, merely these companies preying on gullible people in a fast paced internet world that most of us aren't very wordly about.

Remember...if you can get the information for free elsewhere, do NOT...I repeat NEVER give a site your credit card number or financial information. Most information is public record anyway and can be obtained through proper channels.

Going directly to the 3 bureaus websites once a year will afford you a free report, however, Experian due to their poor business practices with freecreditreport.com you have to call their offices and go through a bunch of teleprompts to request your report, but it is STILL FREE!!

I suggest everyone check their credit score each year, specifically from Experian, there were miscalculations on my report that added to a total of near 100 points below what my score should have been. Each Bureau has a different system and if you find a good attorney with a paralegal who has the knowledge of how this system works they can fix you up rather quickly.

The bottom line is...keeping ourselves informed is the only way to avoid these types of business improprieties.

DUH!

The terms of using this company to access your free credit reports is that you are automatically enrolled in their pay service, Triple Advantage. Those of you saying that you "never signed up" --- YOU DID. It is clearly stated on their website and even in their commercials. If you insist on using this comapny to access your free credit reports, just immediately cancel right after you download your reports.

Or, use the following site which provides, by law, access to your credit reports from the big 3 companies for free once per year (set up by the FTC):
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/

See the FTC website for more info:

It hasnt even been 30 days, and i have been charged 14 something. Is that illegal?

I'm going to call and if they don't follow thru well they can't take money out of an account that won't exist anymore. I'm a single Mom and my Ex left me with some bills, I had to take out a loan to pay everything off. I won't allow someone to mess with my money. If they CIC complains well they will have to prove thru the court system I approved the withdrawl.I thought this was a free credit report.

You people are ridiculous. Sites like freecreditreport.com don't make it obvious that you are enrolling in a monthly service, but they don't really hide it either. They ask for your CREDIT CARD NUMBER! Why would they ask for your card number if they aren't charging you? This isn't a scam, and they aren't billing unauthorized charges, you just didn't read the fine print. I wish I could see my credit report and score for free more than once a year, but we're out of luck. Be smart consumers!!!

I completely agree with the complaints. I think the terms and charges should be clearer. And for everybody that is saying there is one month for free, that's not true. The day my husband signed up for the "one free month", it charged $39.95 to our credit card. I think they are definitely pushing it. I've reported "suspicious" activity to the Better Business Bureau, and I also attached a link to this website for them to see how many unhappy people there are. I would recommend everybody to do the same.

CIC has placed unauthorized charges on credit card. Beware of this company. Trying to resolve.
