Castaway Pools and Spas

Never came back to finish the job!
Complaint Rating: 99 % with 126 votes
Castaway Pools and Spas installed a pool at my home on 4/5/07. They have never came back to finish the job despite numerous phone calls and letters sent to their office. Their salesman john refuses to answer any phone calls. I would advise anyone in the tristate area to be aware of this company. If this company is hired to install a pool at your home read the contract and beware that the are not responsible for any damage to your home or property. Do not under any circumstances make a payment until they are completely done. They seem friendly but are that lie and deceive the public.

Remember, you only have to scam two unwitting homeowners out of their $4000 deposit to pay the $700 lease payments on that Hummer for the whole year! How easy is that?!? I mean, it's a no-brainier, right? And just wait till the spring, when business is REALLY booming. The beauty of it all is that you don't even have to have any pool suppliers that will sell to you in order to steal from people, since you're not planning on delivering anything anyway.

That is the thing, read my post from a few days ago...
they are working out of vineland & AC with Leisure Pools, I think from Arizona.
I went by the store again
today, they are having a HUGE pool sale! They just don't give a #@*# about anything, but themselves.

I say, lets meet at my house, I am only a few minutes from the store, and make a surprise visit, bring some Holiday Cheer to them.

To everyone out here that filed a complaint with the AG - NJ Consumer Affairs. I was told by Jen Mikko (spelling?), Joe Iasso's boss, that all people that paid a deposit and never got any work done, have received their money back. Is this true or not?

Forgot to mention, they are also aware of the new website and are on them about it. Technically Castaway is not registered to perform home improvements" in NJ, only Kalai Excavation.

I guess if EVERYONE got their deposits back, they had enough money left over for new TRUCKS! What about all the people with faulty instillation, I guess we are left to clean up their mess, at our expense. The township sent them a letter that they would be fined $2000 a week (including us) for non-compliance of the building permits THEY CHOSE TO DO NOTHING! We took care of that. The BBB sent them a letter about fixing the leaks in our return lines... THEY CHOSE TO DO NOTHING!! So come spring, I guess we have to shell out between $2000-$8000 to get the leak fixed in the return lines.

That includes digging up the concrete around the pool to run new lines, but does not include the cost of new concrete. I guess it would be cheaper to fill the damn thing in with dirt and make a big patio!

PS-I hope that you are enjoying your new vehicles at our expense!

I know one thing for certain. I WILL NOT BACK DOWN FROM THEM. I WILL EITHER GET MY JOB FINISHED BY THEM OR I WILL GET MY MONEY. They owe me about $15,000 worth of work. I WILL NOT GIVE UP THE FIGHT! EVER!

How is everyone doing. I am willing to meet somewhere also and talk over what happened to us. I got a call from Joe Iasso...I sent them all the info they wanted. But he said things not looking up for us getting our 8k back. My wife is here blaming herself and going through a lot of emotional distress for allowing herself to be bamboozl. I went to the address in Vineland 2 weeks ago and lights were on but no one answered the door. There seemed to be packing boxes inside.

It seems that non of us would be getting our money back. This is a story from KYW yesterday.

The system is not on our side here with these guys in NJ.....We all have to get together and do something ourselves. There is power in numbers. Email me please and let's all work together in getting our money back.

Just for the record Castaway pools and spas is under New Ownership . John Dalrymple and John Lacomp SR. They are the same owners of Oasis pools. Obviously the kalai 's tryed to make changes in the company . With out the cooperation of John JR and SR things became hopeless So they cut there losses and walked away from the business . Now who can they Scam into helping them out , I guess will have to wait and see . Also when the distributors and pool supply houses found out that the kalai ' s walked away from castaway , they would not sell anymore pool supplys or pools to castaway . Thats why there getting there pools from Arizona.
For all of the fools that purchase from castaway Good luck

Hey, to Just to let you know... we were not FOOLS! we were scammed by these scum bags. I think that all of us did our background and leg work on this company, and they were in good standing. It was not until June, when all HELL broke loose. By then, most of us had either got our pool installed by shotty work and were left with less that a superior product and the so called "FOOLS", were robbed of their hard earned family dreams and money. Don't feel sorry for us, try to HELP, some of these families are being ripped apart by these scum bags, lower than dirt people. We have been married for almost 30 years and every night it was an argument about the pool. It is covered now, almost that we don't know it is there. But come spring, the headaches will start all over. The court system isn't helping, if you should win a judgment, it doesn't mean that you will ever collect any money, they are no where to be found! the only one that wins will be the lawyers, when we shell out more money to get our problems resolved, that's a good one, who will resolve the problem?? Not them, they get the $$$retainer and you are still left with NOTHING!

One thing that I am really mad about is the Better Business Bureau. When I ran the report on Castaway back in april, it showed only 2 complaints in the past 3 years, and also showed (like it still does today) that Castaway Pools had been in business since 1995. What a load of crap, maybe Kalai Excavating had been in business since then but Castaway had been around for less than 2 years. I can absolutely state that there is NO WAY that I would have ever gone with them if I had known that. We talked with quite a few pool companies, and there were some we eliminated from the list for just that reason. I'm sure the BBB has some disclaimer somewhere that absolves them of responsibility for false information presented on their site, so there is no recourse. Of course hindsight is always 20/20, right?

Oh, and I don't really believe that stuff "Just To Let You Know" wrote about Kalai no longer being the owner either.

We too, looked at the BBB site, everything seemed to be on the up and up. I also googled complaints against castaway pools, nothing came up. I check the Vineland BBB, they were in good standings. When did things go wrong? Why wasn't the BBB site updated? These are questions that will haunt all of us. As for Kalai, he knew all about the scams, he WRITES the CHECKS. When and if you were to speak to his wife, you got the same old run around, they just didn't care. I left voice mail after voice mail to Kalai, all unanswered. I even called the excavating office and got know where. These people are lower than scum.
John told me in June that his dad left Castaway to start up shop in North Carolina, I guess to start up a new scam. But who was the BIG money baking the pool business... KALAI! If he did not know what was going on in the past with John Jr, why didn't he run a background check on him, he was handling large amounts of money. I guess if the money kept pouring in, everything was A-OK! I guess the money was so good, they all got new trucks.

We also contracted for a pool on July 25th and gave Castaway a $6,500 deposit. We are located in Middletownship in Delaware County, Pa. We were having Permit problems , Castaway could not comply with out townships current codes. At the time we were talking to Dave and he said the owners agreed to cancel the contract and return our deposit. The deposit was on a credit card which they never refunded. I then tried to dispute the charge through our credit card company but the Merchant (Castaway) has since denied our request for credit. I too have tried many times to call Castaway with no luck. Let me know, if anything we can do next.

Anyone know anything about this address that this website lists for Castaway? http://www.insiderpages.com/b/15239812498

"Pissed Off" could you check this out?

I went by the above address, didn't see anything. Maybe they are using that address just for mailing purposes. I reversed phone number lookup and it still gives the Landis Ave address.
