Never came back to finish the job!

Castaway Pools and Spas installed a pool at my home on 4/5/07. They have never came back to finish the job despite numerous phone calls and letters sent to their office. Their salesman john refuses to answer any phone calls. I would advise anyone in the tristate area to be aware of this company. If this company is hired to install a pool at your home read the contract and beware that the are not responsible for any damage to your home or property. Do not under any circumstances make a payment until they are completely done. They seem friendly but are that lie and deceive the public.

That was my post a while back about the sand going back into the pool and to date it is still shooting back in. We had the entire tank, inside and top replaced by Hayward, and still is doing the same. As for the pool leaking, i guess we aren't alone. I thought that we were the only one with the leak. We lose about an inch of water a day! They came out and dug under the concrete and fixed the jets in the seats, HA HA, so good that they glued the knobs so that they don't turn! We may not be able to get them off, when we close the pool this weekend. As for the other leaks, I contacted five Fiberglass pool companies across the US, and they all said the same thing, there is a leak in the returns!

Lets get this party started! A few posts back, the guy called about the pool after I emailed him and John tried to sell him a pool!

Did we forget who really is holding the bag here. Kalai is the owner. He should have fired John Jr. and tried to make good to everyone who has issues on with their pools. (So that should be all their customers.) John Jr. is the scum of the earth, but you can't let the Kalai's off when they knew exactly what they were getting into. Has anyone tried to contact the Kalai's???

I talked to Willie Jr on October 5th, he knew all about the problems with our pool. He said that he would let his dad know that I called and have him call me back... well that was 11 days ago, and nothing!

I am blown away. I did a self install w/Castaway. They set the pool plumb it and hooked everything up. I hired my own electrician and plumber. Everything was great.. no major problems.. there were some small issues that they stood behind. They seemed nice, John jr. & sr. I am shocked that they have done all of those things to innocent people. It just goes to show that you do not really know who to trust.

The NJ attorney general called me yesterday and said Castaway (aka John Jr and Dave) would not agree to repay me the money they owe. ($12,000) I still don't know why they just want pour my concrete, install my ladder and hand rail, install my fiber optic light kit, give me my solar cover and my safety cover and be done with me. I guess that is too much to ask for. All I'm asking for is to finish the job. These guys are all losers. I think I may have to wait for my court date with Castaway. That will probably be the only way for me to get the job done. If anyone has a court date coming up with Castaway and wants a statement of facts regarding my situation please contact me and I will be glad to provide it. By the way I think a sting operation is a great idea!

BY THE WAY, JOHN & DAVE IF YOU ARE READING THIS...WE HAD THE TEST DONE FOR THE POOL, IT IS NOT THE FILTER! THERE IS (OR ARE) LEAKS IN THE RETURN LINES! THE SAND IN THE BOTTOM OF THE POOL IS NOT FROM THE FILTER, BUT DIRT THAT HAS BEEN WASHED OFF THE SAND. WHEN THE FILTER IS TURNED OFF, THIS CAUSES THE VACUUM IN THE LINES, SUCKING IN THE DIRT FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE LINES. WHEN THE FILTER IS TURNED ON, THAT SAND SHOOTS INTO THE POOL. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE POOL SHOULD HAVE BEEN BACKFILLED BY HAND OR BY A SALLER MACHINE. WHEN YOU DROP DIRT FROM A BUCKET FROM SEVERAL FEET ABOVE THE POOL ONTO THE HOSES, AFTER SEVERAL TIMES, WITHOUT SUPPORT, SOMETHING IS GOING TO GIVE. THAT WOULD BE THE HOSE OR CONNECTIONS!
THIS IS GOING TO COST BIG MONEY TO FIX AND RIGHT NOW, WE DON'T HAVE IT. YOU POOLS HAVE A LIFETIME GUARANTEE, SO WHO DO I SEE AFTER A FEW YEARS WHEN THE DIRT CAUSES A VOID UNDER THE GROUND AND OUR POOL GET SUCKED INTO IT, AND CRACKS??? THIS WAS TOLD TO ME BY THREE BIG POOL MANUFACTURERS AS WELL AS TWO POOL INSTALLERS. AS FOR YOUR COMMENT ON SATURDAY, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT??WHO, YOU OR THEM?? IT LOOKS LIKE JUST ABOUT EVERY POOL THAT WAS INSTALLED THIS YEAR, WAS DONE IMPROPERLY, BY YOUR SO CALLED FACTORY TRAINED EXPERTS.
AND AS FAR AS BEING TOLD YOU WERE THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY WITH ONE MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF EQUIPMENT, YOU USED THIS LINE ON EVERYONE. ALSO, YOU TOLD US THAT YOU HAVE INSTALLED THESE POOLS FOR 15 YEARS, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT YOU ARE 28 YEARS OLD! I GUESS YOU WERE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES WHO COULD START A BUSINESS AT AGE 13!

Hey Ben T. Over, don't forget about the pool maintenance equipment (pole, vacuum, hose, etc.) and also the "startup chemicals"... I spent over $500.00 on those things. There are a lot of things that you need to put into your pool water so that it will be balanced and not damage the pool equipment... your pH, alkalinity, hardness... these are all important things and Castaway did not ever do anything with my water, I had to do it myself by taking a sample into a pool store and having it analyzed. I had to add FORTY POUNDS of hardness additive, and I don't have a large pool. Also don't forget about the first closing of the pool (if that was on your contract) which is probably another 300-400 bucks.

Oh and "Tom", I thought my pool was plumb too, the corners look good... but then I realized later on that there is almost a 2-inch difference in the water height towards the middle of the pool... the distance between the water and the top of the pool is almost 2 inches more in the middle. John promised me it would be true to a 1/4 inch, so much for that promise. I thought about getting a tile border put on the pool (by another pool company) but I can't even imagine that it would look anything but STUPID given that GIGANTIC difference in the center area.

I guess "Tom" didn't buy a safety cover from Castaway since NOBODY has EVER received one from them. If you really got everything that you contracted for, you're pretty unique.

I did go out and buy all the chemicals, hoses, vacuum etc and it cost me about $300. I still have not winterized my pool. Does anyone know a web site that gives good directions on how to winterize a fiberglass pool? It looks like I will have to go out and purchase a basic tarp to put over my pool this winter. I really wish Castaway would just finish my job.

Since there seems to be TONS of us in the same boat, I would like to start a petition of names to see exactly how many of us have been scammed by Castaway. Maybe we can all become stronger in numbers.

For now it doesn't have to be your actual name & contact info. But we just need to see how many of us are truly effected. Hopefully you can add you name or reply to my post email & I will gather all the data & post a completed list on this board. If the numbers are large enough then we can use the document to send it to the Attorney General so they can see just how many people have been scammed by this company. Maybe then when they see it all in front of them it may help us get help from them.

Worst case scenario. My Husband's best friend works for Action 6 news & knows Nydia Han personally. She has contacted (emailed) us to see how she can help. Once I collect all these names I can try to pass it on to her & see if she can help get the Attorney General's attention or some other form of help for us all.

They have either joined their cons with someone else or have just started up a new business again, in Vineland & AC they also found some fool that would sell pools to them.
