Never came back to finish the job!

Castaway Pools and Spas installed a pool at my home on 4/5/07. They have never came back to finish the job despite numerous phone calls and letters sent to their office. Their salesman john refuses to answer any phone calls. I would advise anyone in the tristate area to be aware of this company. If this company is hired to install a pool at your home read the contract and beware that the are not responsible for any damage to your home or property. Do not under any circumstances make a payment until they are completely done. They seem friendly but are that lie and deceive the public.

Isn't it amazing how CASTAWAY Pools & SPAS and CASTAWAY FIBERGLASS POOLS/LEISURE POOLS have the SAME address and phone numbers associated w/ CASTAWAY POOLS & SPAS as well as the same website and yet they expressly state that they are NOT the same company/scam artist/scumbags associated w/ Castaway POOLS & SPAS, and where did they get all those fake positive comments? They've been busy, any phone numbers so that we can contact all those people? Does anyone know who "Joe" is that commented 7 days agao as well as this afternoon? Obviously on of the good ol' boys from Castaway.

This is a forum.. idiots. People can comment on whatever they want. Just because you got scammed don't blame me or others who haven't been scammed. If you read what I wrote I SAID I DON'T LIKE THOSE THAT STEAL AND I FELT BAD FOR YOUR SITUATION. It is obvious now, that you want to hear only what you want to hear. Not everyone was ripped off because they didn't research like you. What happened to this pragmatism that you show now, when you were shopping around for pool contractors? You didn't do enough research and got stung. To be honest, I would be ashamed that you pissed away so much money. My sons would kick my ass for that. 15k, 25k college money? No, I will just spend my time here listening to you dream about getting your money back...just words.

Joe - part of the problem, the agencies that are suppose to alert and help people, like the BBB, waited for months to put out bad results on this company. They had a clean record in '06, then my complaint came in on 12/31/06 and they did nothing for months to let other people know they were bad eggs. Now 40+ complaints are in the hands of the NJ AG office since April-Aug '07 and still nothing is done. They're still in business, ripping people off and trying to say they are under "new ownership" when in fact they are still being run by a guy that has at least 6 arrests (4 NJ, 2 PA). So, that leads to a lot of frustration, when this guy can beat the system for this long running at least his fourth pool company into the ground.

So, great you can feel proud that your not one of them, but if you don't have anything constructive to add, like helping us get them arrested, please don't waste the space.

joe did you have a pool installed?if so by who?i would love to hear something positive do you have anything for us ?i would hope that these guys put one pool in the rigth way.i was'nt scammed as much as most people one this forum but i will always try to undermine the castaway people.they do not deserve anything else.i could understand if they had a couple bad pools but year in and year out they seem to do this.not only do they do a poor job of installation but they steal money.how can they explain that?there is no excuse period. i can not understand how someone in the AG (JOE)has taken so long to
do something about them .it has gone on to long to allow these people to still be in business let alone have a state contractors license what is the point?is it just to generate money for the state?I know the AG
can not sign criminal charges but they have to know who can.keep up the good work up in trenton or where ever the AG office is you people should be proud of the work you are doing.

I know you are pretty one-dimensional. But let's see. I could be one of those characters you mentioned, and now I suddenly care about my reputation? Or how about the truth, I saw this because it is in the Worst section and Subjects of Wide Speculation section and read some because I was curious. I had a complaint on something much more trivial. I know you want me to be one of those people, but I am not.
#6 no one has answered my questions on what research was done before such a big-ticket item purchase. I took my used Honda minivan to Honda for inspection before buying it. Same type of thing. Did these guys offer you such a cheap price compared to competitors that you just lost your mind? Did you see 3 or 4 past pools by them and customers. I am not proud mine was done right, but I paid for it with the research and a good chunk of change for the GC etc.

Joe is a "master of the obvious". We did it all, and none of it helped.

As was mentioned, a check of the BBB report on these dopes was meaningless until August or September of 2007, long after most of us got involved. The BBB held onto the complaints and then revoked Castaway's (Kalai's) membership and made them public all at the same time.

We went by several places where they had installed, or were installing pools. In one case nobody was home. In others, nobody said anything to us about problems they were having (and they were having problems).

They continue to rip off people even now. It still amazes me. I also think that the people who aren't complaining got ripped off too, they just haven't figured it out yet, or know there isn't much they can do since all their money is gone. That last small payment at the end that you might withhold due to problems doesn't even cover the cost of the crap they didn't deliver, like the $2K safety cover, or the ladders, handrails, cleaning equipment, chemicals, etc.

Those are good points I wish you luck with your endeavors. I was actually addressing the other guy with the name calling and such. If he wants to recirculate the everyone's a scumbag theme, so be it. But, not everyone took his money. Was the price significantly lower than competitors? Is this why people continue to contract with these guys?

Since you are obviously better than any of us, and are above ever being scammed and victimized, go find something else to do with your time. Yes, I looked into Viking Pools which was about the SAME price as Castaway. Even spoke w/ a few owners w/references, and there was nothing noteworthy on the BBB. Castaway had a better turn around time than Viking. These people are obviously good at what they do and have been doing it for a long time. But their time is running out. So, Joe, go get a life, you obviously have nothing to offer us, other than to berate us. I still think you have a connection with Castaway, in otherwords, me thinks thou protests too much! Either that, or you truly have NO life. WHY else would you spend time here? You are clearly not on our side of the fence.
