Never came back to finish the job!
Complaint Rating: 99 % with 130 votes
Castaway Pools and Spas installed a pool at my home on 4/5/07. They have never came back to finish the job despite numerous phone calls and letters sent to their office. Their salesman john refuses to answer any phone calls. I would advise anyone in the tristate area to be aware of this company. If this company is hired to install a pool at your home read the contract and beware that the are not responsible for any damage to your home or property. Do not under any circumstances make a payment until they are completely done. They seem friendly but are that lie and deceive the public.

The BBB is really disorganized, or sleazy, or both. NOW the reliability report for "East Coast Fiberglass Pools and Hardscapes, Inc." says this:

BBB Accreditation Status

On January 22, 2008 the membership was suspended due to failure to respond to one or more customer complaints filed with the BBB. The matter will be reviewed by the BBB's Board of Directors at its next meeting.

So they went from REVOKED to SUPSENDED.

It also now says that the complaint listed was resolved, but not in the BBB's timeframe, where it used to say that the company failed to respond.

Which way is the wind blowing today?

We feel the same way, if the BBB updated their files on a timely basis, perhaps, all of us would have taken a second look and ran, before hiring Castaway, to take our hopes and dreams only to turn it into a never ending nightmare, with no way out.

Seems like East Coast pools has been removed from two of the three web sites listed here earlier for Leisure Pools USA. The address and phone number listed is the main office in Texas.

The one that still says "East Coast Pools" still says 173 Matilda, but it has the Texas phone number.

I'm not really sure what this means, maybe East Coast got booted, or maybe they are just getting their name off the front page. East Coast is still listed on the main Leisure Pools USA web site as a NJ dealer.

Went by the store a few minutes ago...they are selling pools! There are about 5 or 6 new pools on display.
They aren't too big nor are they deep. They are
retangle shape. There is a white one, a dark blue one and two smaller light blue ones and the old one that is by the road. The name still shows CASTAWAY POOLS. They were closed, I wanted to stop in and say Hell-o!

Please find out for all who have been Swindled by Joe or Joseph Kovacs & Kristen who reside in 173 Matilda but filed Chapter 7 at 175 Matilda and also transfered the ownership to Father Joseph & Carol Kovacs

Is this "Grandfather" the same who is now hiding assets for his son?

Case highlights odd registry rules

TRENTON -- A recent Superior Court case highlights one of the peculiar rules by which some convicted sexual predators can’t be listed on New Jersey’s Internet sex offender registry, even if their crimes are severe.

On May 20, 70-year-old Joseph Kovacs was sentenced to five years’ probation for raping a 10-year-old girl three years ago, a crime that judge Bill Mathesius called one of the worst he had ever seen.

In 2002 Kovacs, of Thurston Avenue in Ewing, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, but pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child in January.

According to prosecutors, the sexual assault was so severe the victim, who’s now 13, needed surgery to repair her genitals. It was the second time he raped the girl.

Mathesius called Kovacs’ conduct "vicious, grotesque and unfathomable."

Noting psychologist reports that stated Kovacs was a danger to commit another sexual assault, Mathesius wanted to hold the suspect under house arrest.

But prosecutors let the rapist plead to a lesser charge of child endangerment to avoid making the young girl testify in court.

Kovacs’ sentence was influenced by the fact that Mercer County law enforcement said it couldn’t afford to keep the grandfather under house arrest.

The court required Kovacs to attend group therapy, ordered a psychological evaluation and said he must register under Megan’s Law.

But Kovacs won’t appear on the Internet registry because of the lesser charge.

Moreover, statutory rape, incest, sexual assault against an adult and sex offenses committed by juveniles are all crimes which do not require the offenders to be listed online.

"If the underlying crime involves a person having sex with an underage girlfriend, the community is not really at risk," said Jennifer Downing, a Mercer County assistant prosecutor and chief of the county Megan’s Law Unit.

"It’s the same with incest if the victims are family members or somebody that lived in the house. The logic extends to offenders as juveniles because they’re just so young that they should not be subject to the strictest portion of Megan’s Law," she said.

"If, despite the fact that a crime fit into one of those categories, we still feel the person is a risk, we don’t have to stick to the exemption."

Sex offenders who fight prosecutors’ attempts to list them on the registry use the incest exemption most frequently, according to a November 2004 report by the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts.

Offenders listed as the lowest risk to the community are placed in Tier I, a level at which only the police and not the public are notified.

"If the offender is a Tier I, I know they are there and the police know, but the public will never know," Downing said. "Registering and tiering are two separate things."

Downing said she often lectures at schools, police departments, and community meetings on the specifics of Megan’s Law and its implementation. Most are surprised to find the Internet registry does not include every type of sex offender, she said.

"Like it or not, Megan’s Law is not meant to punish. We cannot punish these offenders with it. It just means that now there’s going to be some notification," Downing said. "People don’t like to hear that."

Still hard to say what (if any) connection this all has to our buddies at Castaway Pools... although I am having a hard time believing it is a coincidence that Castaway started out as being listed on the Leisure Pools site, then they were replaced by East Coast, and then East Coast turns out to be swindlers too.

Did anybody notice if you go on their web site under plans and design that Leisure isn't listed any more? There is only dolphin and blue hawaiian are only listed?? A company from Texas was the ones working on the site when it was down. If I'm not mistaken thats where I think leisure pools were made. Maybe Leisure got taken for a ride by the good ole boys, like everybody else. I can't beleive their still selling pools.
138 days ago by Pissed Off [send email]
If they are not selling them, they have pools on display!
FYI- People who are having problems with your pools, as we are (the leak in the return line)... I have been in contact with several different pool companies to see if they will make repairs, they won't touch anything done by Castaway! Their lawyers strongly advise to stay away. So the screw gets turned a little deeper!

Go to court, why? They don't pay restitution and come up smelling like a rose.
