Castaway Pools and Spas

Never came back to finish the job!
Complaint Rating: 99 % with 131 votes
Castaway Pools and Spas installed a pool at my home on 4/5/07. They have never came back to finish the job despite numerous phone calls and letters sent to their office. Their salesman john refuses to answer any phone calls. I would advise anyone in the tristate area to be aware of this company. If this company is hired to install a pool at your home read the contract and beware that the are not responsible for any damage to your home or property. Do not under any circumstances make a payment until they are completely done. They seem friendly but are that lie and deceive the public.

I am having the same problem. I only wish this comment was posted before I contracted with them in March. They are very nice on the phone... if you can get them on the phone. I have called the office, the owner and John about 8 times today and no one ever calls me back. The sales person Denny also seems very nice, but does not call you back either and does not communicate any changes to the department. There was a change in the ordinance and Denny wasn't aware of it and neither were the installer. It wasn't until after the pool was put in my yard did I find out about it. I now have a pool with green water and dead animals in my yard and they didn't show up today to finish.

I also contracted with castaway pools to install a fiberglass pool and they have not come back to finish the job. it has been a month... the water is dark green and is dangerous with no fence... their ad in the south jersey magazine states they have no subcontractors and pool installations take 1-3 days. FALSE ADVERTISING HERE. They will not answer my phone calls and John the owner or manager... they call him pinnocio because he tells lie after lie. The branch I bought the pool from is located in south jersey in Berlin on route 73. They also have a vineland office. I do not know how they get away with this. I am so frustrated I could cry.

Castaway pools... Id like to cast... away this company!!!

Unfortunately they have all my money and did not complete the job of installing my pool. BEWARE!!! This company is a FRAUD!!! I personally believe it must be a front for some other operation. The owners will not call you back and care less about you after they have your money. I have all my receipts... and I am posting this so others will ban together and take action against this unscrupulous scoundrels. BEWARE. THIS COMPANY IS A FRAUD AND HAS FALSE ADVERTISING IN THE SOUTH JERSEY MAGAZINE.

I've been having a problem with Castaway Pools also.

But, I can not even get them to submit proper permit paperwork into my township. They won't return phone calls or even certified letters even though they promised "swimming in a couple weeks". This has been going on since the beginning of May . Has anyone complained to Consumer Affairs or BBB? How many other people are out there that they have taken their money and will not perform the work? I'm afraid that we are only the beginning of people surfacing with problems.

My experience with Castaway has been very negative. I signed the contract with them in the beginning of June. I ran into a permit issue and tried to contract my salesman Denny. Next to impossible to reach.

I stated that I want out of the contract, haven't heard back from them. I just called the NJ Division of consumer affairs. Their are two open complaints on them at this point. They can be reached at 800-242-5846. I am going to file a complaint to get my deposit back. I think if we all file complaints it might get something done.

Also curious to see how many complaints it takes to turn a civil court issue into a criminal complaint.

Hello again, it has been over 30 days since they plopped my pool into the ground. I have had it. Yes, i agree with all the comments on the complaint board here. We need to do something together. A class action suit is coming for sure.

I have already contacted the better business bureau, the division of consumer affairs at the attorney generals office and the consumer fraud protection agency of Camden county. I even called the magazine where they advertise their false and misleading ads. The ad states no subcontractors, fast installation( yeah right) and they state that they are members of th better business bureau(1609-588-0808) which they are not.

I suggest you all get copies of your receipts, and contact the division of consumer affairs at 973-504--6200, we need to stop complaining and do something about this company! call action news at 1215-878-9700 and fox news. Call the south jersey house & home magazine at 856-751-4509 false advertising is a crime isn't it>??? Contact me at my email address if you agree>
Liz

Start calling and take action. Ask for a complaint form... get your receipt together.

Their CROOKS>>> At first Denny the salesmen was such a nice guy (too nice)... everything I asked him, he gave me the perfect answer... what bullshit... then after I gave him the deposit he would never return my calls for 5 days. I did some more research online and found this web site... Thank you to everyone that posted complaints... I called the bank and stopped payment on the check... he had never cashed it... thank GOD...

I feel your pain & frustration. They are complete frauds and these mounting complaints prove it. I guess none of us will be swimming in our new pools this summer. As stated Denny started out nice like most snake oil salesman then after five weeks (Denny took my deposit on 04/28/2007) and not being able to reach anyone I called my town about permit .They did not have it yet, he said it was being dropped off next day. Five weeks wasted. Denny said ,"Oh your permit and two others were not sent out by mistake".

I must of called both locations at least one hundred times and never get a call back, I have copies of my cell phone and home phone records. July 3rd permit was finally in and haven't been able to get in touch with anyone for installation yet keep getting runaround ("Midge " says Ill get John to defiantly call you in morning.Yeah right!. Now they are in breach of contract and after hearing all these complaints I wouldn't give them a penny more. I will get my deposit back come hell or high water.

I talked to Denny and told him he was in breach of contract & he said "I'm only the salesman" and have nothing to do with it and now was nasty. He makes me laugh, I talked to him on a Friday he said he was going to call me back in two hours and never heard back.On Monday I call him , of course, and he says I've been on vacation. I told him I just spoke with you on Friday.

Denny I hope you read this because believe me you have everything to do with it. You are the only one from the so called "company" I had contact with, you came and pitched the company and came into my house and took my check which was cashed & didn't deliver product/service. Your name will be the first on the criminal & or civil complaint. I will be contacting BBB ,Consumer affairs my township police and township police where your shell of a company is located. Thanks for an enjoyable summer! Look forward to seeing you in court.

I can't believe I am reading this. We, too have a contract. have paid 2/3 of the cost of the pool and we have nothing. No one will answer our calls and my husband and I are devastated. We are older, have worked for years to save for this and now fear we have lost everything. I went to the store in Berlin and found out they only rent space there from Piper pools. They haven't seen them for over a week and they also owe them money. Denny's voicemail at that number if full and will not take any more calls. I have talked to everyone in the office, but no one will help me. How can this be allowed to happen to honest, hard working people?

Maybe I can give some hope to some of you. I just received my deposit back today and the check actually cleared. I left Denny a message telling him I got some information about one of there people up there did some time for an alleged pool scheme. About an hour later I got a call back from Denny stating my deposit was being refunded. If any of you don't get any resolution to your problems, email and I will give you the info I have and maybe with that info, someone could take it to the Daily Journal. If it gets into the paper, I am almost certain that the Cumberland county prosecutor will pursue this.

Denny contacted us and said he would finish our pool after almost 6 weeks of waiting. I hope he means what he says this time. We shall see. Nothing would make me happier than to get this over with. I hope he does good by everyone out there who has felt the pain of waiting. Sad but true... that this can happen to so many good people... I hope he is as sincere as he sounds.

I will be anonymous because they are currently finishing up my pool and I don't want to screw it up. I have had many of the issues listed here, and more... but in the end it seems I have had better luck than anyone here because my pool is in the ground and my concrete is poured. I would urge anyone who is having problems to stake out the Vineland store and get face to face with the main offenders here (John, Denny, and so on), it is much harder for them to avoid your issues if you speak to them in person. If you are currently having work done, think twice before paying them full amounts that are due as per your contract, because that is the only leverage you have. For the people who are still hoping that their work will be done, get on them and don't let up until they satisfy you! I might also recommend calling the maker of your particular pool (Trilogy, Dolphin, whatever) and complaining about Castaway, maybe the manufacturers will cut these guys off.

Oh yeah, check out page 17 of this PDF file:

http://www.constructionpublications.com/binder/Binder_Issue_30.pdf

"A crew from Kalai Excavation, LLC takes a break at their Swedesboro jobsite to pose in front of the company’s Komatsu PC200LC-7 excavator. They are (L-R) Ashlee Binder, Kalai Excavation Owner Will Kalai, Operator Wayne Kalai, Binder Sales Rep. Patrick Warren and Kalai Excavation Operations Manager John Dalrymple."

You can print this picture out and throw darts at it, maybe.

Hey anonymous great picture of a fat rat thanks. Sorry i would not waste the ink to print this picture. Today I stopped by piper pools, as luck will have it i spoke to the owner he told me he was starting the eviction process against castaway pools today. Guess what their not paying their rent. I told him about my story and others that i have spoke too as well. He was not surprised, because so many people have already stopped in to complain.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I also got my deposit back. Maybe the company is trying to settle all the outstanding problems. I wish everyone good luck.

I spoke to john dalrymple's probation officer today she told me there was nothing she could do to him unless there was a NEW charge filed against him. Her name is Theresa Lisaik her phone #is 609 909 8028. I called to let her know that john is up to his old tricks again. She suggested people to press charges against him.
