Clayton Homes Clayton Homes

Our home is 1 year old, purchased in 2021, our roof leaks, the siding holds water behind it creating mold on the siding, the living room floor bounces up and down when you walk on it, there is a leak at the cook stove vent causing water to run down the wall behind the stove. The two small porches in included with the home are not made of pressure treated wood resulting in the wood splitting and banisters falling apart. Clayton Homes needs put out of business because all they are doing is ripping people off.

Desired outcome: We need our home repaired, we are disabled living in a fixed income and we can not afford paying deductibles to the insurance company for all these repairs. We want our home repaired.

Time for a class action lawsuit, I think. Clayton Homes does not even answer their own phones.

Clayton Homes Home not right

I went to clayton homes and got a land home package. I found the land and prepared it for the home I then ordered a home and u was not allowed to see the inside of the house and when I got to see it I found that the floors were out of level the roof was sloped the wrong way all the doors and counters were 4 inches out of square and the mid walls were bowing and pushed the drywall loose. Stan the manager had the setup guy meet me at the house to see if it was out of level and it wasn't he told me that the home was built that way and would need fixed. About 2 hours later Stan called me and said that since I wasn't happy with the house he was backing out of the deal and taking my land with him. All I wanted was for the house to be fixed or replaced so I could close on it and move into my new clayton home. My name is Jason Smith and my email is [protected]@att.net

Desired outcome: The home to be fixed or replaced so I can move in and I want Stan to be held accountable for what he has put me through.

Clayton Homes Home set up and construction

Home was set up in five hours and was poorly done at best. Home has now developed leaks from the roof and is less than 15 months old. Have reached out to seller(Blessed Homes) and to Clayton the manufacturer and have gotten zero in regards to reconciliation of issues. I assume legal action is the only way to get these entities held responsible for the damages and time lost to the poor construction and set up. A 90,000 dollar Home that didn't make it 15 months. See attached of screws that are too long and penetrated roof causing leak and water damage.

Desired outcome: Fix and repair immediately.

Clayton Homes 2021 3 BEDROOM, TWO BATH

Customer Service at Clayton Homes in Dublin, GA is absolute worst. I paid cash$$$ for my mobile home. From the time the trailer was set up "by professionals" up to present day has been an absolute nightmare.

Terrible customer service by manger, numerous issues with the trailer. Called Waycross, GA as was told this is where the home office is, and they redirected my call back to management in Dublin, GA. Called the corporate office in Tennessee, and they sent my concerns and issues to my homeowners as a claim, rather than a complaint.

Desired outcome: None, management worthless as well as home office, corporate about the same. Not even worth wasting your time on.

It is the same here. Clayton Homes has a nice little shuffle going on and nothing ever gets resolved. I applied for a class action lawsuit; you should look into it.

Clayton Homes Doublewide home unfinished work since delivered oct 2019

Home purchased nov 2019. No inspection prior to given keys to move in. Reported the cracks in the walls, ceiling and window frame. All but 1 ceiling crack fixed. The site location states that clayton origination center should fix and they are saying the site who hired the transporter/setup crew should fix because it is mostly the marrying wall. So no one is helping and I as the customer is in the middle of this issue.

Desired outcome: Just want my house fixed like it should. I have yet to fully decorate because not sure or if my walls are going to need painting when cracks get fixed hopefully.

Clayton Homes Poor product / dishonest service / job not completed

We purchased a Clayton home from the Pueblo Colorado office working with Vincent Hall. Our loan came in 2021 and we moved in, in June of 2022. To start with we were told 4 to 6 months and it took way longer than that. We were also flat out lied to. We were promised numerous things like the ability to go all electric rather than including gas in our home. The home we walked through appeared sturdy and solid. The home that was put on our property is anything but. Vincent seemed like he was on our side and nice enough at first but once our loan money was in and there was no turning back on our purchase he started acting like he was just bored and everything was a problem. There were excuses for everything. He never told the builders that we were supposed to have electric only. We were told it was no problem but according Matt (another Clayton Pueblo employee) they just don't usually do that and though it was noted on our original paperwork, Vincent never put it in the actual building plan, he never informed anyone. We were told that we would be able to fence our entire property without issue in a 6 foot wooden privacy fence but once it can't time to install the fence we were told it was no longer in budget. We now have only a small portion fenced in a 6 foot chain link fence that is stapled to our neighbors wooden fence because they claimed that they were not allowed to put a pole on our own property. It was also claimed that they couldn't remove the part of the 4 ft pre-existing chain link fence that was there. Vincent claimed that information was not correct but he never contacted the fence people to have the fence properly tied in or have anything else removed. We have a gap on one side of our home where the dirt was never filled in yet there are piles of dirt that were left up against the old 4 foot fence. We had to fight to get all of the construction debris removed and I finally have up because it was just too much hassle. Our dishwasher hasn't worked right from the start. We can't close our back door without pushing in just the right spot to latch it. Sometimes the handle won't turn at all and it leaves someone locked outside! The clothes washer cold water hookup has leaked since day 1. They claimed they hired someone to clean the construction dust and what not from inside the home before we moved in but we had to vacuum out under all the sinks and scrub wood dust out from the baseboards, there were several screws and nails just sticking out in places. I got cut on one of them. The trim is coming off and we haven't even lived here for 3 months yet. I complained to Vincent numerous times and he even brought someone over who was supposed to fix all of our issues. He did fix most of them but some are malfunctioning again, like the back door. More and more pieces keep falling off. We installed chain locks which we have done before but here everything is so low quality that even an eye hook won't stay in properly. I've given up on trying to work with Vincent because he makes excuses, has become rude, and blamed us for it. I'm not looking for excuses, I wanted the issues fixed. I can't work with Vincent because nothing gets done right. The people he hires take weeks and there is no communication from him or them. He has lied to us from the beginning and refuses to be responsible for his behavior. I will never recommend or use Clayton Homes again because of Vincent Hall.

Desired outcome: I want things fixed properly without having to go through Vincent and hear more bad excuses.

Clayton Homes Home purchased

We had a "punch list" that after a year has not been completed. We had one of the people that came out told us our back steps were lower that they should be. Which could contest to why I almost fall in and out the door. Person said code was 7-8 in and out steps are about 10-11 inches from door. WE called about these problems and the response was oh well your house is out of warranty. First these items were mentioned before the house was out of "warranty" second of all the fact that the air conditioner (new problem) is leaving puddle of water on my floor and we have only been in this house less than 18 months a little concern should have been shown. Unless Clayton homes builds homes to last just a year. And then put you in file 13 to never have to deal with you again. And I guess from what was told to us. All major appliance's only last a year. This is bad business and at this point would never recommend a Clayton home to my worst enemy as the saying goes. My regards Regina Fowler

Desired outcome: Fix what has needed to be fixed

Clayton Homes Terrible home

This home is literally falling apart. Trim falling off. Light fixtures falling out of the ceiling. Floors creaking like it's falling down. Screws or nails trying to come through the laminate throughout the home. Laminate to tight in bathroom and looks like it's going to bust.( Oh did I mention we have just lived here not even a week!) We are both disabled I will be on dialysis soon this home was supposed to last us the rest of our lives but I don't see that happening. I wish we had never bought this home! Cindy Seagroves

Desired outcome: Treat people right to begin with build better homes.

Since May, 2022 to present.

Clayton Homes of Mobile, Al. follow up repairs have not been completed going in our forth month.

The install off skirting, result in damage to the vinyl on the home, to the skirting. Poor install, covered up my dryer vent could have caused a fire.

Steve manager of Clayton Homes in Mobile Al, sent out unqualified person, for install of skirting, It is going on 4 months repairs still not made except for a large hole for the dryer vent to be exposed.

I have called there home office, several text begging for this to be resolved.

I told Steve when they started that the install look bad, that I did not want it, he sent his crew out when I was at work to complete the poor install. I have pictures and text of everything and conversations.

Desired outcome: I want a full refund on my skirting, and repairs completed on inside of home.

Clayton Homes Got screwed

If I could go lower than a 1 I would have. They promised us quality materials and we got the lowest of the low. Note we have only lived in the house for 3 years and stuff started falling apart after a year. The kitchen drawers fell apart had to fix them multiple times. The carpet is paper thin and is missing in some places just wear and tear. The paint on the house just comes off with the slightest bit of rubbing so cleaning the walls is impossible. Some of the electrical outlets don't work. Had my brother who is an electrician say he was surprised the house didn't burn down. One outlet is right underneath a window with is a no no from what he told me. We got way over charged for what we got when we were promised something better. I will never do business with them and I hope however is reading this doesn't make my mistake of doing the same. You are better off finding another place to build your house than Clayton.

Clayton Homes Roof, walls, plumbing, vents, openings all leak creating mold and water damage throughout

Almost a year ago, I purchased property that included a 2018 single wide Clayton Home. I was hesitant to purchase a mobile home but figured it was fairly new so maybe it would be okay. We had the house inspected prior to purchase and that turned out to be a complete waste of time as very little was revealed and we would instead learn of the actual damage over the coming days and weeks.

We knew the A/C was leaking but assumed it was due to the negligence of the prior owner as there was also some other superficial damage as well from animals. However, we quickly learned that EVERY window, every door, every vent, and even light fixtures leaked incessantly EVERY time it rained. Walls were filled with mold and decay, floors were buckling and rotting, ALL off the plumbing was leaking throughout the house creating not only water damage, but mold as well. Pipes under the house were leaking as well, allowing sewage to collect under the bathrooms.

We contacted Clayton Homes and were told that there was a warranty on the home at time of purchase (in 2018) but this warranty was non transferable. We shared our concerns about the issues and asked for help in finding resolution and Clayton Homes was completely uninterested in any of the issues, ALL of which seemed to be manufacturing issues and NOT consumer error or neglect.

We could actually see daylight through our light fixtures and upon further investigation discovered there was not a single drop of caulking ANYWHERE on the structure making it impossible for each opening NOT to leak.

The edge of the roof, was too short for the structure, forcing water back under the shingles and down behind windows and walls every time it rains.

We looked into gutters and were told the roof would need to be replaced and redone in order for them to work. The cost? Almost the value of the house itself.

We tore out and replaced walls, flooring, and plumbing. We replaced ALL the appliances. We rebuilt walls around the water heater and A/C in hopes of creating better ventilation for the A/C and eliminating those issues. We caulked around every opening we could find on the roof and walls. We updated as much of the bathrooms as we could but ran into challenges due to the limitations of what you can actually PUT in mobile homes (size, thickness, etc), as nothing in a mobile home is “standard”.

We’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars in the past year on a home that is valued at less than $25,000 (per the insurance company), and almost a year later, most of our improvements are again soaking wet and covered in mildew… making our efforts a complete waste of time and money. The windows are again leaking profusely and we are at our wits end.

Our original plan was to trade THIS home for a much larger, newer home after purchase. We spent weeks looking at larger, more desirable manufactured homes.

At the end of the day, however, given the challenges of THIS home, we opted NEVER to own a mobile again as we are certain they are all made with the same shoddy workmanship. With the company not caring at all about customer satisfaction, what would compel us to purchase again?

We are considering ALL options at this point, including legal action, as we are certain there are many more customers who are as frustrated and disappointed as we are. This is unacceptable! Aside from the lack of ethical standards, I am perplexed that Clayton Homes is allowed to continue doing business in such an appalling way. Is it because most people who live in mobile homes are lower income or status so they can get away with it? It appears there is plenty to be found online about customer dissatisfaction and the lack of company concern for such a fact. It also appears there have been previous investigations about unethical and immoral behavior time and again.

I also understand that, oftentimes, RV and mobile home companies don’t care about their customers because when one company folds due to poor credibility and shoddy practices, they simply bankrupt THAT company and open another one with another name making it near impossible to hold them accountable.

Despite my experiences thus far and my assumption that Clayton Homes will continue not to care about their shortfalls or the long line of dissatisfied customers, prior to moving forward, I want to offer one final opportunity to right a serious wrong. For this reason, I am reaching out hoping for resolution.

Thank you for your time. Pictures and video are available upon request.

Desired outcome: Roof & window leaks & damaged walls repaired. Roof overhang repaired to prevent flow-back and allow for gutters.

Clayton Homes Mold issue in entire home

My wife and I purchased a Clayton Home in 2016. Shortly afterwards me noticed mold on the outside wall nearest one bedroom and mold in the living room. Clayton Homes was contacted who removed the window nearest the bedroom and replaced the trimming. Today the entire home has mold and moisture in the floor, walls, roof, carpeting and around all windows including the one allegedly repaired. There is also mold and moisture on all of the furniture. I have COPD and my wife has asthma. We firmly believe the mold, mildew and moisture has strongly affected our health issues. Currently the home is unhabitable and worthless. Prior to any civil action, this compliant is offering Clayton Homes the opportunity to resolve this issue forthwith.

Desired outcome: Remove the mold, repair the various issues causing the mold and moisture. Reimburse my wife and I the cost of all damaged furniture and cost of inspection by a mold expert. And/or, provide a new mobile home at no cost.

Clayton Homes Clayton Homes of Candler NC

We had over an acre of land for them to work with. When we came to inspect the house for closing we discovered they had placed the house 10 feet from the road. They dug down so there is a 10 foot wall of dirt right outside my front door and the road. When we asked to cancel they refused. Instead they placed grass seed and straw which washed away at the first rain. We've been here almost 4 years and can't get anything to grow on this wall of dirt. Also just had to have the entire heat pump system replaced become the one they put in kept breaking. Clayton may seem like a good option but after a year everything starts breaking. Please stay away from this company. I am happy to share pics if anyone would like. I am also considering hiring an attorney if anyone who reads this would like to join in.

Desired outcome: Fix my land that you ruined. Refund what I had to pay to replace the heat pump system.

Me and my husband purchased a home in 2020 ,,,in 2022 ,,within two years of us living in this home ,,our Transformer on our furnace blew up,,,SO we contacted Clayton mobile Homes to see if AND WHAT OUR WARRANTY( because we were not given a copy of it) and they said that all of their furnaces only come with a one-year warranty ...I would just like to know what type of company does this ,,,they also messed up our home when they put it on our land ,they messed up both of our porches, they put a accent wall in my family room that I did not want ,,,they did not put my farmhouse sink in, and then they did not reimburse me for anyting,, they are the worst people in the world to work with,, do not buy a home from them,, me and my husband are to the point now where we are really thinking about selling this home, so we can get away from the fact that it is made by Clayton mobile Homes, the people in Charlottesville are very rude, they do not like to answer your phone calls or emails in a timely manner , they try to blame everything on the homeowners, and they just are not by their word. I would not recommend anyone,, and I repeat I, do not recommend anyone buying a home from Clayton mobile Homes all of the sales people especially the ones in Charlottesville they lie about everything, they tell you that you have extended warranties ,and you do not ,when you call them to question them about things they try to put the blame on the homeowners, and again I will repeat this and I stand by my word I wish me and my husband would have went somewhere else and bought our home ,but in the near future if any of you guys are thinking about buying a home from Clayton mobile Homes do not do it they are all Crooks and liars and they overcharge you for your setup fee.. they charged us almost $64,000 to set our home up and now we are having problems with it because they hire people that do not know their jobs.. I repeat do not make the mistake like we did and buy a home from Clayton mobile home because they are Crooks and Liars

Clayton Homes this is a case of fraud miss handling of the customers money .

In December, I had put money down on home through Clayton homes, the Brookshire Texas office. I wasn't approved due to things on my credit report . I was introduced to credit repair By Wendy, who works for Clayton homes Brookshire Tx office at 500.00 to start plus 63.00 for processing fees here, it is the end of May, and I have nothing to show for it. This repair never got done. The only thing I got was a run around and No answers. This also falls on your finance company Vander-built for agreeing with Wendy that there would be no problem once this was done. the 500.00 was my deposit money that was refunded back for a hold of the home I was going to buy, which I gave to Wendy to start my credit repair, plus another 63.00 for processing. You have some shady people working for your company in Brookshire, Tx.

This is just not a fraud. This is inbezment I have every text message from Wendy's docs that were signed; however, she has the copies that were never given to me. I am asking nicely for something to be done with this matter I have a witness to all this which would be my Husband because his name was on the paperwork as well

Desired outcome: correction made in your office in Brookshire Tx and compinsation for a set back .

Clayton Homes Curtain Drain

We purchased a new home the beginning of 2019. After multiple issues and finally getting most of it resolved, we finalized everything after being told we did not need a curtain drain due to having the block foundation. The last few years we have noticed that the crawl space was wet... well this year it has standing water. We had a contractor come out and was told we do in fact need a curtain drain. I am furious due to specifically asking Adam with Lebanon MO Clayton Homes if we needed one. It was written up in our paperwork so I am pretty sure we even paid for one. Still working with the local branch to try and figure out what we can do... praying we do not get mold in our crawlspace.

Desired outcome: Get a curtain drain like we should have gotten in 2019 and clean our crawlspace if needed.

Clayton Homes Clayton 28x52 home built in 2020

Do Not Buy these homes. They are made with no care, by people just slapping stuff together. Thank goodness my husband is a master of many trades to fix all the issues we have had. Water leaks from drains in the showers and squeaky floors because they didn't screw anything down. The cabinets are not cabinets at all. They are 1x's with thin panels inside and outside. When they were put together they didn't even shot the nails in straight. The switches and outlets are not attached to 2x4's and are all coming out of the walls. We took out the water heater for a tankless, they did not use the right grade of wire on the water heater. Could have eventually caught fire. Vinyl flooring was not glued down so it tries to come up all the time. Have to rebuild my over priced piece of [censored].

Desired outcome: Desired outcome would be a refund on all that I have had to spend to fix all the problems. Mostly likely not going to happen. Future buyers stay clear.

Clayton Homes Construction of hone

Was told 2x6 outer walls and 2x4 inner not so. Siding falling off. Flashing around windows not in place. Doors were all fixed but the rest has not been addressed. Have pictures of everything and now the office in Marion, IL says that they can’t fix anything else that corporate is going to do the repairs Plus they owe us money because they didn’t have to put in septic. Side of cabinet is peeling off Trim is short in several places. Trim in the bathroom in the side of the sink is chipped about 3 inches The weld on the one set of steps broke. They didn’t orovive steps for the back of the house. The furnace is only 10 electric for 1265 square feet and should be at least 15 or 20. Cabinet drawers are all loose and doors are not even

Desired outcome: Give me what I paid for

Clayton Homes Wingate by clayton 2006

Ive just had so much trouble from day one with this home. The vinyl wasnt installed right so water has been coming down my inside walls. Dont get me wrong I dont expect you to respond because I know Im not your concern and have to deal with this on my own and I have since 2006. The air had to be replaced 1 year after it came here. The door rotted out so I had to replace it 2 times. Under the dining room windows, 3, rotted out and had to be replaced, which I had to do myself and not a sheetrock hanger. so you can imagine what that looks like. I could go on and on. Its been very dangerous from day one the firealarms have never worked so if I have a fire I hope I can go though a window. Like I said I dont expect anything from you, just saying. Thank You, Tracy Ayers My number is [protected].

My hope is that in the future clayton will take more pride in their homes because its been really exhausting for me to try to keep this home going because of all the mistakes, I guess at the factory, who knows but they really gave me a home that is not a home, its almost parallel to a shack

Desired outcome: Maybe Clayton will have better ethics to building these homes that are homes not a liability to the owner

Clayton Homes 2018 clayton patriot

From the beginning, the master bath tile grout has been falling out. The molding has fell from around the windows and doors. Now when we finally decided to look in the attic, the braces are broken and twisted. I have called where it was purchased, and they said they are not responsible. How can a new home have so many issues? The tub in the master bath does not drain properly, because there is no venting. The smaller bath has the vent capped off in the wall!. The kitchen drawer slides were all twisted and broken, we had to replace them. The cabinet doors are loose and keep having to be put back on.

Desired outcome: Everything needs to be repaired.
