CertaPro Painters Not finishing the job, and not communication when it will happen..

I signed up for services 3 months ago. They did the outside paint a few weeks later. Was told initially that it would be a few weeks to finish the concrete portion. About a month later the salesperson kept giving me the runaround. He finally quit, maybe he could not get the company to help me and others. The GM finally called me and reassured it would get done asap. I had one quick visit and was told they were behind schedule. Again, the GM said I was scheduled . The day when service would be finished, the excuse was the ONE piece of equipment needed was broken. I waited a week nothing happened. Ten 10 ago I texted the GM and told them I have what they need to get started they can borrow from me; he said great we will get you scheduled. Ever since NO communication, EXCEPT a sales call to solicit more work.

Claimed loss: Asked either for the work to be completed or a refund, have has neither.

Desired outcome: REFUND

CertaPro Painters - Certapro painters of middletown and kingston

CertaPro Painters of Middletown & Kingston (NY) have been a nightmare for us. They are unprofessional, unreliable, hire subcontractors who are unable to communicate with the customer, were unqualified (1 out of the 4 people sent to paint the exterior of our home was a painter - an interior painter), and were unprepared - no power washer, ladders, nor paint...

CertaPro Painters Certapro pain job

We built a brand new nice home in a 55+ neighborhood in GoodyearAZ. We desired to paint the interior a color other than stark white. CertaPro put flyers in mailboxes, so we called for a quote. Chris Stilwell, Residential Sales Associate of CertaPro Painters of the West Valley, Phoenix area showed up. We told him exactly what was to be painted, and he gave us a quote. I expressed my concern about quality and cleanliness, asking specifically that they wash brushes outside and not in house. Chris assured me over and over that they were very careful and clean, using drop clothes, etc. We were not home when the job was to be done so as not to be overwhelmed by smell, so emailed specific instructions on where the crew could find entry key, etc. First day to start, crew said they couldn't find the key, so already a day delay, which messed up the plan to be gone while painting was to be done. Second day, they emailed they were done and sent invoice! We returned home to find they only painted 1/2 of required job. We were home now, so not ideal to finish job now. Called Chris and he said they'd come back to finish in a few days. Everything was filthy. Paint all over everything. Evidence they washed brushes in our bathtub! Crew (hired by CertaPro, but independent from CertaPro) didn't speak English and came back same day because they were already" in the neighborhood." Good for them, but not for us as moving van was moving our stuff that same day, too. They painted anyway without prior notice or permission for that day. Lots of chaos with movers moving our stuff and also painters painting.. Crew wore dirty big painters' boots with mud/dirt all over. Everything speckled w paint spray! They touched everything with dirty, painted hands.. marks on floor, dirt on carpet, appliances, towel bars, etc. Hard to see in pic's but there. I just had finished cleaning up their first mess! The disrespected our beautiful, brand-new house. We were missing some door stops they had removed.. had to purchase new ones. There still is paint on wall switches and plug-ins.. can't remove it. Evident they just wanted to finish fast and go home. They tried to turn AC up, so paint fingerprints all over face of thermostat. WOULD NEVER HIRE CERTAPRO PAINTERS AGAIN! Very disappointed in salesman, too. Emailed him but no reply second time.

CertaPro Painters Lack of professionalism

I lease one of the spaces in the PYRAMID PLACE in Indianapolis. The painters are taking a very long time and after watching I see why. Staring and talking to every woman they see. They break often and wreak of marijuana so operating machinery should be a definite no. I have witnessed a worker being berated and talked down to while there were customers coming and going. where is the professionalism? Lets get it together certapro

CertaPro Painters Interior Painting

Horrible experience! Couldn't make my desired date, even though I paid two months in advance. Took 4 days to paint an empty 4 bedroom house, Interior only, no doors or ceiling and minus a few small rooms. Sloppy work, you can see he (one man crew) painted over socket covers. The person who showed up for the estimate/quote told me to go with higher quality and more expensive paint to avoid a second coat, but end up being charged double coat two walls and a room. This horrible experience cost me over 3.5K. I confronted Dudley, the painter about why it's taking so long to paint an empty 1600 SQ FT house, without painting doors, ceilings, most closets, and no exterior walls. Dudley replied with, ...[we only worked for 3-4 hours a day and were told by our boss that we had till Tuesday (4th day).] which was utterly false, I was assured that they could finish the job in 2 days. I also express my displeasure with how everything I discussed with Mike Dobbs during the quote, hasn't come to fruition, and Dudley completely separated himself from the company and said he was not part of CertaPro but was outsourced and he was an independent company based out of Florida. Dudley also offered to paint the based board, doors, and master room closet on the side for a discount, not through CertaPro. The offer was made less than 20 mins into the initial walk-thru. Full disclaimer, I paid him to do the baseboard, since Mike dropped it off the contract and I need it painted. Brendan Anderson, who seemed to be the boss, either didn't know how his crew is operating or he is completely complicit.

Because of the extreme time constraint, I was in, I stayed with the company and I'm writing this to ensure no one ends up like me or even comes in contact with these horrible people and their business practices.

Desired outcome: Portion of the money back

CertaPro Painters House Painting

Initially looked at 3 different house painters but was most impressed with the CertaPro salesperson. Every question I had for her was answered with "yes, absolutely" and "that's no problem at all". I say sales person because after the contract was signed I never saw or heard from her ever again. My start date was Sep-8-2021. My house is 3 different colors and I had the three different colors specifically spelled out in the contract. During the first week of painting I was notified that they had some extra effort locating one of the paints, it was ordered but wouldn't be arriving for 5-10 days. Why they waited until the weekend before the job started to try to procure the paints I don't know. There would potentially be a pause in my job by 1-2 weeks. There was a pause for one week until the paint arrived. Fine, the inconvenience wasn't too bad. Here's the kicker, when finished they sent me an "invoice" for 3K more than my signed contracted amount. When I explained the numbers were different than the signed contract amount they explained that I was being charged for the extra effort and inconvenience that they had to go through to find the delayed paint?!? No joking, I was the one who was inconvenienced by their incompetence and laziness of waiting until the last minute to get the supplies. They were charging me over 35K to paint my house, and on top of that they were trying to charge me more for their inconvenience!? Unreal?! I feel sorry for these people, but even sorrier for anyone who uses them in the future.

CertaPro Painters painting services

Choose any company other than this one! They have no respect for your time, property, or a job well done. They borrowed items, broke them, and put them back without a word... killed hundreds of dollars worth of rare perennial plants... painted the whole house the wrong color, tried to rush and lie their way through the job, violating every requirement of the manufacturer of the product they used and telling us it was okay. I had to get the manufacturer involved. Parts of the house look horrible. They ruined outlets with careless power washing, and also didn't properly prepare many parts of the house for staining, leaving old stain in place. The competely forgot to remove or replace stain on part of the house, so it was a drastically different color with nine years of weathering, and they requested pay as if the job was done. They required multiple "safety stand downs" and meetings which cost us way too much time and money. They usually didn't come when promised and would show up on random weekend afternoons. I could elaborate forever. The owner was nice, and I think he tried to apologize, but it was not nearly enough to make up for the extreme inconvenience, property damage, and regret for hiring this company. The finished house does not make me very proud.

CertaPro Painters complaint

My grandfather hired them to paint our house and do a few other things. He was impressed originally with the people they sent out to assess and write the contract. That impression didn't last long.
The people they sent out were outside contractors and far from professional which had the job been done up to par could have been overlooked. It was not though, they did a horrible job. They barely scraped any of the old paint off, just painted over it. They were supposed to do 2 coats but only did one. They painted all of our windows shut and failed to even paint alot of areas. They, per the contract, were supposed to clean up everyday as well. They didn't. They were also supposed to do a bunch of other things, per the contract, that they failed to do such as sealing and caulking certain areas. To sum it up, they did about half of what they were supposed to per the contract and the half that they did do was shoddy and half assed. My grandfather is 85 yrs old and now feels as if they stole his money. If you are thinking of hiring this company then please think again and get other quotes.

CertaPro Painters Camp Hill, PA Office (Glenn Pensyl - Franchise Owner)

Reference Glenn Pensyl - Camp Hill Office...

I was looking for shutter and dentil molding work so I reached out to Home Advisor and was connected with Glenn Pensyl. An appointment was made for Monday June 27th at 7:30am. I was called around 8:00am on Monday, saying that the paint crew was running behind and would be late. I then received another call around 10:30am saying they were in a crash and wouldn't be making it out that day. My wife had used a vacation day for this, but I understand things come up. The appointment was rescheduled for Tuesday, June 28th at 7:30am.

This time I used a vacation day from work. The crew was a no show/no call while I was sitting around waiting for them. I finally called them at 10:30am asking when they would be there. I was e-mailed by Glenn Pensyl, saying that the crew would not be out at all again, but he would "keep me advised on timing".

7 days went by without hearing anything from Glenn, even though I had e-mailed him twice and called him once. He finally replied on a Tuesday saying he could get me in by the end of the week. He didn't apologize for the lack of communication, or the fact that his crew didn't show up at all. I told him that I would like to talk about the final cost of the project now that we had to take 3 days off work, plus the no call/ no show. His only response was "I understand your viewpoint. Thank you for your feedback."

It's very apparent that he (as a direct reflection of Certapro) could care less about the lack of customer service. I would expect this kind of attitude from a small business, but certainly not from a franchise owner.

This was a simple fix - call me on Tuesday before 8:00am and ask to reschedule (which I would have been fine with), OR apologize for the lack of communication and make things right with the consumer. Those are standard business practices which Glenn Pensyl obviously didn't care about. I was treated like the absolute ### of the earth by Glenn Pensyl, and Certapro in general. I chose Certapro because of the company's history and from referrals, but it's clear that the Camp Hill office is an exception. Needless to say I'm looking elsewhere for my current and future painting needs.

CertaPro Painters Lazy and dishonest from the President of the company on down

September, 2014 I noticed some of the siding boards along the chimney chase were rotted. I received several quotes from different painting companies in the area. The quotes included painting the house and replacing all siding with dry rot, and any structural framing boards that showed dry rot. Every company made sure that I understood that there would be an additional charge for replacing rotted wood, and I agreed to pay the extra fee. I hired CertaPro Painting to replace the rotted boards and paint the house for roughly $4000. By November, 2014 they finished the project, they charged me for painting the house, and charged me extra for repairs made to the siding, I gladly paid for the peace of mind that would come when they assured me that my house was now rot free, and I would never have to worry about rotted siding again. I trusted that they did it correctly, but I was wrong. July, 2015 I noticed some rotted wood on the underside of the chimney chase. There was a hole at the bottom of the chimney chase the size of a softball, and the framing going up the side was rotting away. I called John Wutschel, president of CertaPro and told him about my concerns, after 3 weeks of going back and forth, he insisted that I have a leaky roof, even though the roof is relatively new. I hired a roofer to inspect the roof. He discovered that there is nothing wrong with the roof or the flashing, he discovered that some of the siding boards were rotted so badly that you can crumble the rotted wood away with your fingertip. These are the same boards that I paid CertaPro to replace. Here’s the problem: the siding board that rotted away and caused water to run down the inside of the chimney chase was behind the gutter, and that meant that you have to take down the gutter in order to replace the rotted board. CertaPro replaced some of the siding boards, but when they got to the board behind the gutter, they stopped. Instead of replacing the rotted board, they painted it and hoped nobody would notice, because removing the gutter is about a twenty minute job, and requires two or more men. Painting over a rotted board is the worst thing they could’ve done, because it allows water to rush in behind the paint, and visibly, there is no way to tell that the board is compromised. This is a deliberate act of fraud and deception, committed by a CertaPro employee. Finally, four weeks after my initial contact, CertaPro sent the same negligent crew to fix it. They arrived at 8:00 on a Thursday night and worked by cellphone light. By 9:00 they left, instead of removing the gutter and replacing the board, they patched it with a small piece of siding and several tubes of caulk. I told John Wutschel that this is totally unacceptable, I have a chimney chase full of rotted wood because of CertaPro’s negligence. To add insult to injury, he sent the same lazy and dishonest crew to replace the piece of plywood on the bottom of the chimney chase, and told me that the piece of plywood will cost me $400. In my opinion, and the roofer’s opinion as well, the rotted board along the gutter had been rotted for some time, there is no way that a painter could have painted it without knowing it was rotted, removing the gutter and replacing the rotted siding would have prevented the water damage and that it was laziness and dishonesty that kept a rotted piece of siding along the gutter in place from November, 2014 to September, 2015. That was one of our rainiest years, and between my initial contact in July, 2015, and the “repair” four weeks later, an additional four inches of rain had fallen. John Wutschel and CertaPro is the worst contractor I’ve ever dealt with. His lead man, Effron, and the entire crew are equally dishonest and lazy. All they had to do was remove the gutter and replace the rotted board, instead, they painted it and hoped that I wouldn’t notice. Ultimately, the president of the company is responsible for the work done by his employees. The painters never even scraped the old paint off, they pressure washed the outside, and painted the house without removing the gutters, had I known that this was their standard operating procedure, I never would have hired them. I’ve never met such an unprofessional man as John Wutschel, his default position was that I was wrong, when he agreed to meet, he was at least thirty minutes late each time. Totally unprofessional behavior. Needless to say, I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and suing CertaPro for the repairs to my house. I am not a wealthy man, I run a machine in a factory. I had to borrow the money to have my house painted. Rotted wood attracts insects, that’s how I discovered the rotted wood in the first place. I have a daughter and a granddaughter living in the house, and they are highly allergic to black ants. If they should get bitten and have an allergic reaction, I will have to sue for more than $1000. CertaPro took advantage of me and my family, took my money, and when I discovered their shoddy work, they kicked me to the curb and disregarded my complaints with extreme prejudice. Update: September, 2015, I filed a lawsuit in the Cobb County Magistrate because CertaPro’s letterhead has a N. Cobb Pwy address, they had since moved to Cherokee County, I still can’t get John Wutschel to confirm his address, so the sheriff couldn’t find him. October, 2015, I contacted Rob Petka, CertaPro’s regional manager. He arranged a meeting to discuss the repair. October 8, Rob, John Wutschel and myself, met at my house to discuss the repair, at this meeting, John agreed to send a different work crew the following Tuesday at 3:30, the crew would remove the gutter, take down the siding, and replace the damaged boards, both siding and structural boards, the repair that should have taken place in October, 2014 when the house was painted. In return, I would sign a disclosure stating that I will not file a lawsuit, I would not contact the Better Business Bureau, I would not contact the media, and I would not mention John Wutschel or CertaPro on any social media site. I agreed to all conditions, I just want the repair to be finished. The following Tuesday came and CertaPro had broken another promise, no work crew. I called John and he said no on Tuesday, even though I left work early, yet again in order to meet the work crew, Saturday instead. Saturday, October 17 John Wutschel arrived with a crew of one. One man with a ladder. No work crew would be needed because John did not intend to make the repair. The man with the ladder was there to carry the ladder, put it up against the house, and climb to the gutter, where he said that he didn’t see anything wrong. I told him that the gutter has to come down, and the siding has to come off in order to see the rotted wood. He removed the piece of plywood at the bottom of the chimney chase, the plywood that John wanted to charge me $400 to install. As I showed John the rotted wood, and black mold that is now accumulating on the rotted wood, as I flaked away black moldy chips from the wood that CertaPro was paid to replace, I did this right in front of John’s face, and he said that he doesn’t see anything wrong with the house, and he refused to make the repair. To add insult to injury, John Wutschell presented me with the disclosure statement mentioned above and asked me to sign it. He left saying that he would think about getting an independent contractor to assess the damage, the damage that he just told me doesn’t exist. Even though I’ve had three contractors from the Home Advisor website quote the job. Needless to say, I have no confidence in any of CertaPro’s promises, and after three months of stalling and wasting my time, we are right back where we started. At this point it is safe to say that John Wutschel will never fix the problem that he created.

CertaPro Painters They didn't return to finish the job

I didn’t like how the company Certa Pro Painters. I bought new house and called to this company. I told them that I wanted to paint the whole house, as well as the shed in the garden. They told me the total sum for the work was about $2, 000 and they wanted to get additional money for the paint. The staff arrived and they started to work. But after couple of hours they suddenly ran out of paint. They promised to come back tomorrow, but no one arrived. They told me that they would buy paint and return to finish the job. No one showed up!

CertaPro Painters Shoddy work / misrepresentation

Back in 2010 I hired CertaPro Painters to pressure wash and re-stain the exterior of my home and the surrounding decking. I obtained quotes from several different companies, but selected CertaPro because they were recommended by a plumber that I thought seemed honest, Mike Mackin of Mackin & Sons. Tracy Schlitzer was the CertaPro salesperson that came to my home to do an estimate. She went to great lengths to tell me she "understood" what it's like as a single woman to find the right contractor and "assured" me that CertaPro only used their own employees who were qualified and underwent background checks. She specifically told me they DO NOT use subcontractors. Two guys came out to do the job, the project manager "Joe" who oversaw the job but didn't actually do any work, and "Jason" who also happened to have a side business as a locksmith. They used only hot water to wash the house and burned up my hot water tank the first day. Which resulted in me having to pay $300 to the plumber, Mike Mackin, who recommended CertaPro to me. Then they spray painted over all of the landscaping surrounding the deck, including the mature azaleas, and gigantic oak trees--not schrubs that you could easily overlook. Almost seemed intentional. They disappeared for a day, saying they had trouble finding the replacement boards for the wood deck. Carter Lumber is 2 miles from my house. They tried to hand me the final bill without actually painting under the eaves or other areas along the roofline, and left trash under the back deck. They tried to tell me the final bill was $200 more than the contract b/c they needed to buy extra materials. But when I looked closer at the paperwork, they had stapled the 2nd page of someone else's contract to mine. I couldn't believe how unprofessional this company was and didn't think more about it until this spring. That's when I noticed that they didn't actually replace the rotted boards or fill in bee holes and damaged wood at the higher part of the house. I used my digital camera to zoom in and confirmed that they barely painted in some locations. The contract required 2 coats and backrolling of expensive Sherwin Williams stain. Parts of the house are green even though they supposedly used mold/mildew resistant brand. I called Rich Toriello, the owner of CertaPro this spring. He told me at that time that these guys were not even CertaPro workers, but subcontractors and that he no longer uses Jason because of some "problem" that he wouldn't disclose. I have reason to believe that Jason was involved in criminal activity and told Mr. Toriello that I've had break-ins/trespassing since using CertaPro. Despite my obvious concerns, Mr. Toriello refuses to give me the names of the two men who were on my property. IF YOU ARE A SINGLE FEMALE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. While I could live with a paint company lying about the quality of the work they do, I am utterly shocked that they would lie and conceal information about their workers. My contract includes information about workers comp liability and had no reason to think that Jason and Joe were not actually employees. I filed a complaint with the corporate office and the local BBB, and decided to post my experience on this site because of the number of people who've also been duped by CertaPro. This was not an inexpensive job, and CertaPro was not the lowest bid. I picked them because of what turned out to be blatant misrepresentations.

CertaPro Painters Terrible Deal for the Actual Painting Contractor and the Homeowner

I post this to assist anyone considering hiring Certa Pro Painters to do work on your home. I have been an independent painting contractor for over 20 years, and recently I have been in discussions with a Certa Pro franchise owner who is trying to convince me that it is a good idea to go to work for him. This guy has no practical experience and does not know what he is talking about, he just has a fancy looking truck and franchise website support/programs to guide him through making his bid for particular projects and the pricing.

I will try to keep it simple in explaining why this is a bad deal all around. First, the franchise owner does nothing except get the jobs and then get another subcontractor to do all the work for them. For this he makes 53% of the total job cost, the subcontractor actually doing the work gets 47%. The subcontractor has to pay for all the materials, provide all the necessary licenses and insurance applicable, pay for travel costs, everything job related. In researching in whether I should even try to work for Certa Pro as a subcontractor, I looked at several potential projects which were already under contact to the local franchise owner - Their prices are about 25% higher than what I would charge, so price-wise it is not a good deal for the homeowner even without considering the quality of the subcontractor who will consider working for 47% of Certa Pros contract price.

Materials cost a subcontractor approx. 23-28% of the total job cost. Travel expenses can be prohibitive. Paying your insurance and workmans comp each year is another expense that is not accounted for. Bottom line is that no competent and completely legal subcontractor can work for Certa Pro, that is why the homeowner gets the shaft in the end. You are better off by finding a local competent painter by research thru the local paint stores and your friends experiences. The people who hire a Certa Pro franchisee will not be dealing with him whatsoever unless he is collecting your check. The only painters I know who work for Certa Pro are the types who have all their paperwork in order, and then they have a crew of mostly illegals doing all the work. That is the only way they can make any money in this deal.

If you hire a Certa Pro franchise owner to paint your house chances are very high that you will be paying a high premium for poor quality work. If you can understand the basic business mechanics of how this franchise is set up then it is easy to understand why the complaints you will read from other homeowners happen. The bottom line is the actual company doing your work will not be the guy who you negotiated the deal with, and he makes over half the money for not doing much more than looking fancy and talkiing slick and crunching numbers thru his computer programs to determine the price of the project.

Certa Pro franchise owners are not real painters, they just bought a franchise thinking they are going to make a bunch of money. The local Certa Pro guy in my area seems to be having a difficult time in actually finding people who will do the work - Unless you are a fly by night painter who hires illegals I cannot see how any legitimate subcontractor can do these type jobs professionally for 47% of the price. It just cant happen.

Please do your own thorough due diligence before hiring any painting company and ask alot of questions and make sure to use your common sense people.

Yes, all of the above comment is true.
It is a recipe for disaster all the way around.
They recently did a high profile client here in the Fredericksburg VA area and couldn't even get that right. Job was a boondoggle beginning to end, and I know this because they end up having to call other contractor's to clean the mess their subs made.
And one last word. ALL of their workers that I have seen on jobs are either one or all of the following: Unvetted, undocumented, unskilled, with NO DRUG SCREENING at all. So ask yourself this. Would I want someone like this INSIDE OF MY HOUSE and around my family?
Oh, and I forgot to mention, Certa-Pro will be charging you top dollar for the sloppy work and unvetted workers.
My advice? STAY AWAY!

CertaPro Painters all

Looking for others in the area having issues with this company or it's owners. I am interested in a possible legal action against
them for their deceptive practices. Having been in construction for many years, I have never had such a bad experience.

Not only are they deceptive in their business dealings. People don't realize that the professionals working for this company are all related. Production manager (his son) Color Expert (His wife). They will lie and nothing is too far out for these clowns to lie about. I am in the process of putting together a website to showcase just how dishonest this company is. My goal is to see them out of business. You don't treat people the way they do. I can say from personal experience there is nothing professional about any of them. Not sure the painters he hires are even legal. He told me that he did not hire "white English speaking" people because they all had criminal records. I think it is because they would be able to understand what deceptive practices are going on with the jobs he takes. No one on my job could speak English.

CertaPro Painters Bad company

CertaPro Roanoke VA - This company called CertaPro Painters in Roanoke VA did a very bad job painting a house, they are very shabby and rude on the phone. There are many great painting contractors in Roanoke VA and CertaPro Roanoke VA is not one of them. It is my sole opinion that CertaPro is a bad company and needs to be more respectful of it's clients and the local community that supports them.

CertaPro Painters Disappointed

Messy job. Had painters come in to paint master bath and bedroom and hallway/staircase. Besides missing some very obvious areas, when came back to "fix" created more issues. I was left with a very unprofessional job (paint in many areas on carpet, door hinges completely painted over, brush marks, fingerprint (paint) marks on ceiling, etc.). I will NOT be hiring this outfit for painting in the future.
