Rheem Rheem products and customer service are junk

This is my 2nd Rheem Classic Series Professional, the first one went bad after 2 1/2 years and was replaced under warranty for the unit but I paid labor. Plumber charged $350 and said could not transfer balance of warranty unless I paid a few hundred $'s. Now after 2 1/2 years this one has gone bad, have flushed it numerous times regulary with power off since I have had it. Last time what came out was what looked like black mud as hot water is yellow. Have flushed it again 4 times since then again with power off but water continues to be yellow. Had plumber change expansion tank as that has not helped, this one when it was put in 2 1/2 years ago had a new expansion tank. What is with your water heaters to go bad after 2 1/2 years twice. I called technical service as I was told to and a total waste. Rheem is JUNK.

Rheem Rheem Air Conditioner Installation

I am very disappointed with the new Rheem Air Conditioner. The following information is my review for AND Services in Florida, but the Rheem Manufacturer has been just as negligent as the distributor. Please read until the end to get a full picture of the Rheem team:

I rated AND Services five stars a year ago. Since I have lived in Florida, I have used their services for my air conditioning needs. My regular technician was not present during my most recent encounter. I was immediately told the coil was bad with absolutely no diagnostic tests run on my old unit to determine all possible issues. The next advice was to buy one of their new systems with a fifteen year warranty which could be installed the very next day rather than waiting a week for a part that might not totally fix my problem. I should know better at my age, but I did not attempt to call another company to verify the technician's evaluation. Instead I bought the new system over a month ago. Since that time, I have received the worse possible service for a new unit that still DOES NOT work a month later. I now understand they service customers differently. If your existing air conditioner needs work, they are there within hours to possibly solve your problem or more likely try to sell you their new system (buyer beware). Once you make the purchase of their new air conditioner, they have a different servicing department for their warranty work. Work on their new system may not be serviced within hours or even the same day. Because of my troubles, they promised to refund 10%. I still have no refund after one month, and I DO NOT have an air conditioner that works properly after one month. My home will not cool below 79 degrees now so it has been running continually during the days for over a month. I will reevaluate if these issues are resolved properly.

Update: It is now six weeks into this fiasco, and I still have not received my promised refund or replacement air conditioner. I tried to contact the owner like the reply offered, but I am directed to the same supervisors unable to provide closure. Today I left two messages for two different supervisors but no response. Rheem (Air Conditioner Manufacturer) sent the supervisor to my home on August 24 to complete a page of tests on their unit. When a replacement was requested, Rheem requested two more pages of tests on August 28. Now I have been told I have to wait until the week of September 11th (going on two months) for a Rheem representative to come to my residence for yet another evaluation. Where was Rheem over seven weeks ago when their defective unit was not working? I am still waiting for assistance to get a functioning air conditioner. The owner's reply on Google has not lived up to expectations, but I am not surprised. Avoid using this company and avoid buying a Rheem product. I will still consider revising my assessment if AND Services and Rheem makes this right as the owner of AND Services promised. Thankfully, I am not holding my breath.

Rheem Rheem hot water heater

Ijust bought and installed a rheem 40 gallon hot water heater

Today. 8 12 23. I installed it correctly. I had not wired it yet. After I hooked up the supply lines in and out I turned the water on. The tank filled up and I drained the air out of my house plumbing and the water tank started leaking out the top of the tank on the hot water out side. Very frustrating. My installation work was correct. Now I get to spend my Sunday working on it because this quality assurance on this product sucked. Probably cheap China labor. A pissed customer.

Rheem 50L stainless steel hot water system supply & install

We were told by Carl on Friday 14/7 morning that the refund was being done immediately.

Today 18/7 Tuesday we called only to be told that it was only done yesterday and that we would not actually receive our money for another week.

Please tell me this is incorrect.

A reminder of what has transpired -

Logan came out to quote and said that the unit will fit and booked in the date.

We made immediate payment as Rheem won't book in a job without full payment.

Carl arrived on Friday and said the unit won't fit.

Carl called Peter and THEY cancelled the install, not us.

Carl replaced the thermostat at no cost to try to get the existing unit working.

We thanked Carl but turns out it didn't work, we still have no hot water.

We have now engaged another company to install the unit we requested and they have confirmed it will in fact fit including the safe tray, without any customisation required.

Now we have to wait over a week to receive our refund for a job Rheem cancelled.

We all know it does not take over a week for funds to be transferred.

This is disgusting considering we promptly paid the money upfront, Rheem cancelled the job on the day and embarrassingly, another plumber has said yes it can be installed after all.

Surely a prompt refund is the least Rheem could do? Why withhold the refund when it is not a fault of the customer?

Rheem Rheen 5 ton ac system

I have a unit that is on its SECOND leak since it was installed in April 2022. Both leaks are on the coil at factory solder joints! The inside unit has broken down also due to a bad TXV valve. I have made several calls with no results other than I can get parts under warranty. I am Paying for repair Labor. I'm out thousands of dollars. These units should have been replaced!

My repair Tech has told me to expect one or several breakdowns a YEAR! I live in South Florida!

This is the first of a email campaign I am starting. There must be someone at Rheem that cares about the customer and the quality of their products. I need a new System!

Desired outcome: Replace the system or refund cost of system so I can replace.

RE: Warranty registration not entered correctly so not honoring coil replacement part

I purchased a new home from GHO Homes Corporation, 590 NW Mercantile Place, Port St. Lucie, FL 34986 on October 31, 2016. It was a brand new home, never lived in, never sold before. It came with a Rheem A/C unit.

The unit was purchased on 3/17/2016.

When I went to register my unit, it verified that it was already registered. As of 5/3/2023 the coil leaked and needed replacement. I contacted Rheem Customer Service at [protected] to give assistance with the warranty for replacing the leaking coil. My Limited Warranty - Parts information stated I have a TEN (10) YEAR CONDITIONAL PARTS WARRANTY for my model #.

Upon contact to Customer Service, I was told that my warranty expired after 5 years. But, that’s not what my warranty certificate stated. My calculations are that my unit is just under 7 years old.

Due to the faulty registration of my unit being registered in someone else’s name which was no fault of mine, I’m having a problem that needs resolve.

I produced my WARRANTY DEED and Closing Statement at their request to prove I was the only owner of my Rheem A/C unit. How did I know my registration was in someone else’s name when it replied that my serial numbers were verified. There is something really wrong with how the registration is input to be incorrect and cause the consumer such grief.

I am requesting reimbursement for the coil I had to pay for to fix my Rheem A/C unit and I do believe my Limited Warranty - Parts states that the coil is a part that is covered.

I will include a copy of my closing statement, Warranty Deed, and my Limited Warranty - Parts document that I received when I purchased my new home to prove original ownership. I hope that Rheem Manufacturing will honor what they print on their document and stand behind their product regarding Limited Warranty - Parts.

Rheem Rheem Hot water tank

I filed a complaint with BBB and Rheem headqtrs. in Atlanta and recieved only a pat answer regarding to the fact that my warranty expired which I already knew. My issue is with the manufacturer in Montgomery. Alabama. We took care of our H.W. T. and even had a water softener that was maintained. Our town even has a state of the art treatment plant. I understand from the installer and what I've read that tanks should last 10-15 yrs. but ours just made it a little past the 6 yr. warranty? We are just looking for some assistance since we took care of our tank. I've worked in manufacturing and know mistakes can be made. attached are some pics of the tank and the invoice. thanks, Mick Dilley

Rheem Rheem HVAC Unit SN W052115404

I purchased a new AC unit, not even two years ago. I had the contractors come and do the normal cleaning and inspection and told me the ac coils had a leak in them. Then they quoted me $1100 to replace it on a unit that should be running fine. They said the money is for labor and replace coolant.

How am I having a leak on a new unit? I used it last summer, then winter hit so it wasn't used as much. Now it's starting to get hot outside and it's taking forever to cool the house, and my electric bill is increasing. So basically it was installed around June 2021, I used it summer of 2022, and now it's broke.

Desired outcome: As mentioned, it's a new unit. I just want the coils replaced, or whatever need to be fixed, without having to come out of pocket with another $1100 after I just spent thousands getting it.

Rheem Rheem Hot water tank. case # [protected]

Hi. My name is Mick Dilley and I first filed through BBB because I wasn't sure you had a complaint/resolution department - sorry for that. Kaylie was the contact person for me at the BBB.

I had sent her images of my Hot water tank and the invoice of the dealer who installed my Hot water tank a little over 6 yrs. ago. I am aware that the warranty has run out but we have always taken good care of our tank and we do have a water softener. I don't believe we ever received a owners manual for this model. Usually, tanks last longer than 6/7 years. I was told that normally a Rheem tank should last 10-15 years. By now you have received my pictures but I have several more that shows it is still leaking. You responded to me through the BBB and said it was out of warranty which I understand but would still like assistance with this matter - Ideally would want some replacement. Rheem Rheem air conditioner:

Air handler serial # W402047236

Condenser serial # W442044119

Was installed December 2020, with a 10 year warranty. Cost: $5800

January 2023 unit stopped working. Tried calling original installer many many times, with no response. Called new installer who has been to my house at least 7 times replacing different parts, some of which were not covered by warranty . So far my costs have been $2400, and the unit is only 2 years old. Still not fixed, as another part has gone bad, costing me $3000. So, now I've paid $7400 in repairs for a unit I only paid $5800 for. This unit was obviously a "lemon", and I deserve a completely new unit for free, including labor.

I am in the same situation as you. My installer quit getting back to me because he couldn't fix it! I refused to pay labor bills for repair that do not fix the problem!

Their fix was to keep charging me for freon fill ups every few months. Got another service tech and now they tell me 2 more coils are leaking , they already replaced one, and now they can't seem to get parts.

This system is less than 4 years old and it has only worked properly about 2 of the 4 yrs.

About all I can say is if someone tries to sell you a Rheem Mini-split system...RUN AWAY!

Rheem Rheem Performance 50 Gal Tall Gas Water Heater

purchased the above and was installed by Home Depot. The pilot light has been going out the whole time and finally the tank busted just as the warranty goes out. having to spend $2,000 every 6 or 7 years is unacceptable. this is the result of poor manufacturing. ironically i financed through Spire and behold their plumber brought another Rheem. maybe it will last until the warranty goes out. everything disposable these days, lasting just until the warranty goes out. sign of the times. rich get richer and the middle class get poor. God bless Anerica.

Rheem I would like to be reimbursed for some of the charges incurred due to poor quality components on this water heater.

I purchased my new hot water heater 18 months ago. I was told this was a great heater that would last a long time with no issues. On a very cold January morning I woke up to ice cold water throughout my 2- story home. I had to call a plumber and pay $380 to have the valve replace that the company knew since 2020 was bad in all of their gas water heaters. I was told the replacement part is at no charge however the installation of the part is what's costly. Why should the customer have to pay for the manufacturer's poor quality? I will not purchase anything else from Rheem and I will share my story with friends and family so they can avoid a costly mistake.

Rheem Model pros 40 cn61 s/n#q532003450 hot water tank

May 20/22. Tank quit working on Sunday 15 Jan 23. Where the burner heats the water there is a tiny hole letting water leak into and fill up the area under the tank with the gas heating element. There has been no need to look at this area since the tank was purchased but the hole is so tiny that it is obvious that this has possibly been leaking for a considerable time, possibly since the tank was new. thus why you feel your tanks should only have a 6 year warranty because the quality, in spite of the very high price, is just not there. And I must agree with you.

Desired outcome: Replace the tank. My installer has the photos etc.

Rheem Tankless hot water heater was purched on 3-11-20 and now a hole in the baffle pan

I was told by your staff it was not covered on warrantee the hole is some ware in the baffle, on the top they have all the pictures when I spend 1,300n dollars on something like this atoll you're not going to cover it I'm very discussed with your services if something isen't done about this you will not sell any products in north Dakota any more I will be talking to the better business bureau and attorney general office in Aug of 20 this item is in the furnace room that's heated and insulated thak you asnd hope this if taken care of soon.

Rheem ECHO200DVLP

It is ABSURD that my $3000.00 investment into this tankless water heater that the igniter fails after 6 months. But not only that, Sourcing this replacement part for same day repair in CA is impossible. My family has been without hot water since XMAS morning facing 4-5 days until I am able to actually receive a replacement igniter... If I would have went with another brand, I'd have a part in my hand, my family and extended family here for the holidays would be clean and happy and I would not look like a complete idiot unable to provide hot water for my family because I wasted $3k on a product that is unreliable and does not have a replacement part availability to support their paying customers... I cannot tell you how upset I am and generally do not understand how a product so important has a downfall like this.. The most relied upon daily resource we need fails to be provided for many days and nights in freezing cold temps because of a $20 part... I'd like a RESPNOSE TO THIS AS WELL As some form of compensation before scraping this unit and filing a suit about this practice of selling a product without warnings of extended down times upon a part failure and the customer may not have hot water for many days...! Again any other water heater or brand, replacement parts are available immediately

Rheem Gas water heater

Purchased Rheem via Home Depot. Utilized their service to have professionally installed. Installer/Company purchased and picked up new unit on 1/26/2022. Installed. Water heater went out 9/1/2022.

Spoke w/Rheem 9/2/2022. CSR did “troubleshooting” over the phone. Said issue was Gas Control Thermostat. Said would mail part. Received part & had to wait for company Rheem submitted a work order to. They contacted me and had no availability until 9/9/2022. Service person came to home. Installed new part, & unit still d/n work. He suggested I contact Rheem & tell them part d/n fix problem & to request replacement unit.

Contacted Rheem [protected]. Spoke w/someone named Shelby who seemed to have an attitude. Greeted her & started to explain issue and she hung up. Called right back & spoke w/Tom. Told him Shelby hung up and he said “umm hmm” and transferred me to Megan. She advised she was putting in another work order to replace the unit. She asked if wanted to use same company that took work order on 9th. Told her that was fine. We’d been w/o hot water for 9 days at that point, I just wanted it resolved.

Company that pulled the work order contacted me on 9/12 and said they only to installs, not change outs b/c Rheem did not want to pay their fee for that. Called Rheem back again, same day, 9/12.Shelby answered my call. She was nice on that day. Immediately transferred me to the Warranty Department. Spoke w/Donna. Said she would send work order out to one last company that could perform the change out in my area. She said let her check a few things then came back on the line & said that as the unit was just 7months installed, I would not have any out of pocket charges.

Representative from second company Rheem sent work order to contacted me on 9/13/2022 to schedule appointment. He said his first available was 9/19/2022. Explained I’d now been w/o hot water for 13 days & was there any way someone could please come sooner. He said that was his first available. Husband, three kids—just tremendous hassle—non which was my fault. Except selecting their product.

Tech from company arrived on 9/19/2022. Very polite young man. I followed him to Home Depot to exchange defective unit for new unit, same make/model, etc. Cashier scanned defective unit & told Tech to go get new unit and bring back up. He did so. She then gave me a receipt and said I would need to go through check out. I asked for what reason & she said the exchange credited $478.00 back to me. I would have to pay the difference!?! She said I would need to contact Rheem about reimbursement. The Tech started to complain to her, getting nowhere. I said I would contact Rheem to correct the matter. But as we were now on day 19 with no hot water, paid the difference so could get new, operable unit installed.

Called Rheem on 9/20/2022. Spoke w/Hope. Explained all the above to her. She apologized, said she was emailing me a Price Difference form. She said Rheem would reimburse price difference (I paid $689 in January, not including tax). She said by accepting the reimbursement the new tank would have the defective tank warranty, no coverage extension. Received form. Completed and submitted via email as directed with all requested supporting documentation on 9/21/2022. Received email right after sending that my submission had been received and to allow 6-12 weeks for Rheem to process my reimbursement claim.

Sent email to check status on 12/1/2022 to email address Rheem provided for any questions, [protected]@rheem.com. No reply. Called Warranty Department back on 12/5/2022. Spoke w/Janine. She said she needed to transfer me to billing dept as “it’s in their hands now.” ? After holding almost 30minutes, someone named Kenneth answered. Again explained reason for my call. Said he was checking status-then heard click and automated recording hiving menu options started playing. Recording I got when first spoke w/Janine? Sat there in frustration & disbelief and about to hang up when heard series of clicks, then someone named Liz was on the line. Once again explained reason for call & she said she was sorry Janine gave me incorrect information. The Billing Dept does not handle price difference, that is warranty department-where call began w/Janine over hour ago! She said I could call them back or submit email to the same email address I had inquired to on 12/1/2022.

Called Warranty Dept back. Spoke w/Dee. For fourth time, explained what I needed. She said they have no way of seeing status. Have no number to call. Have no one to transfer me to. The only option would be to send email. Told her that was done on 12/1/2022 & no reply. Thus the call. She apologized and said maybe try to send them another one or wait until they contact me?!?!

Sent another email as she suggested on 12/5. No response. Sent final email yesterday, 12/14. You guessed it. No response. This entire process has been a joke. The “customer service” has been no existent, and I will never purchase a Rheem product again. Rheem said to allow 6-12 weeks for processing of claim. Claim submitted 9/21/2022. Yesterday, 12/14/2022 made 12wks. No email telling me status, no communication what so ever.

Googling to try to find someone at Rheem who can help me get this resolved and happened upon your site. I hope you can help. I don’t know what else to do. Thank you for reading this and for any help you can provide.

Rheem used to have a good reputation, but has been taking it on the chin for the last couple of years. Poor quality, and a failure to take responsibility for the problems that poor quality creates.

Rheem Faulty furnace from rheem monoxide

Had a new furnace from Rheem installed had bad heat exchanger and leaked carbon monoxide and just about killed me. Rheem will not cooperate for a fair settlement which I think I deserve! This faulty furnace leaked carbon monoxide in my house for 18 days. I can’t settle for them saying sorry for any inconvenience. I’ve suffered for a year and medical bills as well.

Rheem PROG-40-38N RH62

Gas valve causing pilot not to stay lit. Rheem says they will send the replacement for the recalled part, but not a labor $ allowance because it was a wholesale water heater and not one bought from Lowes. What BS is this? It's a defective part that was recalled. They should pay to fix it! I am a senior with limited income. What good is a part if I can't afford to fix it? Thanks

Desired outcome: Pay for labor to fix the defective gas valve on my water heater, manufacture date 11/24/2020, install date 4/2021.

I had the same problem with my hot water heater. Rheem shipped the part promptly, but now I've gotten an invoice for $350.00 from my local plumbing company, Stephens Plumbing. They charged me $175.00 for the trip out to look at it and tell me it's a defective part and another $175.00 to come out and install the part. This is outrageous. Rheem should be responsible for the labor charges on this.

Rheem Brand new hot water heater

Bought bran new hot water heater 11/16/22. Picked it up from Menards 11/19, plumber installed 11/20/22, wasn't working, flashing blue light, called tech support, tried to troubleshoot to fix the problem for a bran new water heater, didn't work was told it was a gas valve that's what ignites it... was told part will be mailed to my house then I am to call the contractor to set up a time for them to fix it. (Bran new). 11/21 woke up with water all on top of water heater, consumers energy came out and said it's defective. Now I had to call service again to say I need a replacement, whole new water heater. Again, they will have to get a contractor out... Meanwhile I have no hot water, broken down heater that never worked. Then was told I can pay for it upfront a contractor and get reimbursed up to a certain percentage. What! Then I was told on the phone with the contractor let me call you back.. never did. This is the worst service I have ever had! Not even service, it's Thanksgiving week and I have 15 people coming over Wednesday, no hot water... Not to mention being fly season and all and COVID, can't wash hands properly in cold water.

Desired outcome: Someone needs to come out asap and replace the bran new water heater that never worked.

Rheem Rheem Water Heater, Mod#PROG40-38N RH, 40 Gal

We purchased the water heater from a plumbing company and had it installed 1 year ago. The second morning, we had no hot water for our showers. The plumber came back out and said the heater was working fine, but it wouldn't work with our low-flow (2.5GPH) shower head. That made no sense as the other heater worked fine with it for about 10 years. The second plumber said it was the shower valve. We resisted getting a new valve because it made no sense that the valve would go bad at the same time as our old heater. We were getting hot water in the sinks, just not in the shower. We finally had the valve replaced and it made no difference.

For the past year, we get up in the AM, turn the heater all the way up to take our showers, then turn it to low for the rest of the day. I'm pretty sure that's not good for the heater, but we have no choice. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? We live in the desert, so aren't willing to give up our low-flow shower head.

Desired outcome: I'd appreciate a response with possible solutions.
