We moved here from Wyoming about a year ago and started looking for an internet provider. We contacted Dishnet because we transfered our dishnet TV service that we already had. Dishnet said that they could not serve us, , even though they advertise they can provide internet service anywhere in the country, because this area was blocked. We also contacted Direct Tv. and was told the same thing. Our only choise left was Hughesnet. We made a decision to go with hughesnet and everysince we have constantly complained to them about how slow it was and it is consistantly down or unable to log into the...

HughesNet.com - Lies

I signed with HughesNet in December of 2008, only because I needed the internet for school as I was taking online classes. It was the only provider out where I live. I found it and went to set it up. buying the satellite and modem was going to be $400, while renting was going to be $360, but I was told that when my contract was up, I would be able to sell the stuff back to them for $200. LIES. When I called to have it set up to have my contract canceled and the stuff sold back, I found out that you can only sell it back if you cancel your contract early. I was also not told about the $150 installation...

Do NOT get Hughesnet.com as your internet provider!! They tell you that you have 30 days to cancel your service but they still make you pay for the 1st full month of service, even though my service started on 7/22/10 and I canceled it on 8/5/10. They make you wait the entire month before they will give you the RMA# inorder to return their equipment. If you don't return their equipment within 45 days of your cancellation date. Their web-site says that you can be charged $300 for Unreturned Equipment Fee. By their web-site it says that if you Lease $99 Upfront Fee is forfeited. But it ended up...

HughesNet.com - Texas, Mansfield - poor service misrepresentation of product

My husband and I signed on to Hughesnet in 2009. The installer came and set it up, all seemed well except we did not get the promised speeds that were advertised. A few months later the speed was abominable to say the least. When I called I found out about a Free Access Policy (FAP)...basically we could only download s500mb/day. I had no idea we had this restriction. Basically once you exceed this FAP you literally have no internet for 24 hours. Luckily we had our air cards but this was no consolation. The service we received was close to $100/mo...for speeds we rarely if ever experienced on top...

HughesNet.com - Louisiana, Quitman - tech support

I has a home office with internet service hook-up via Hughesnet satellite. When I have had reason to call tech support, I have been connected with someone in India, someone who speaks English with a heavy Indian accent, making it difficult to understand said person. In my experience with these tech support people, I am made to feel that I am somehow at fault. I am talked down to, as if I am either a child or a person below the technician's station in life. I personally believe that something like tech support should be handled by someone who speaks English with an American accent. Perhaps I...

HughesNet.com - internet download

Yes, many complaints from other people than myself!!! I am on my last 5 months, then I cut the contract up for good.
If you plan on using this internet service, you best not use it for streaming videos, you tube, or even Hulu. I download some stuff and within a minute into the downloading the spead of transmitting went down to 15 KB/s which is slower than dial-up. That is no good for anything.
I wished I had complaintsboard for any product or services that might be considered as a purchase.

I am not a type for contracts, and am very disappointed in getting this internet...

I made the biggest personal judgement error of alltime by joining Heghesnet.com. Faster than dial-up? Not hardly. I started with the $60.00 a month plan because I was told by the female sales agent that based on what I described as my daily useage, the system, bandwith and so on, would be plenty.

After day (2) I had already exceeded my FAP (2) times and was told I needed to buy an upgraded plan which now runs $80.00 a month. Any better speed, performance you ask? Not a bit, not even close. You call tech support and they are foriegn nationationals usually in India or the Phillipines...

HughesNet.com - $350 Termination Fee on a FREE Trial!?

Complaint Rating: 100 % with 1 votes
Bottom line...HughesNet.com INCORRECTLY debited my checking account for $334.34 for an early termination fee. They immediately found the problem and "fixed it", they said. Well, fixing it means they will refund my money in 30 days! I spent a half hour with a Hughes billing support agent (in the philippines). He said their standard operating procedure was to refund their mistakes in 30 days. After he put me on hold for a while and visiting with other support folks in his organization they were able to shorten it to 7 days. But that still does not seem like a reasonable time frame for them...

HughesNet.com - Georgia, Hamilton - WORSE THAN DIALUP!

Complaint Rating: 100 % with 2 votes
After upgrading from 56K dialup to the HughesNet HN9000. I decided it was time to finally do the much needed updates from Microsoft I had been put off.
While it was downloading, I called and canceled my dialup service from Bellsouth ( I have had for 10 years now). Within 2 hours I had reached the FAP Usage Limit ( 200MB / day). I was unable to load a single webpage afterwards. The connection would timeout before I could even load the yahoo mail home page. I read over the paperwork and discovered the FAP that I was never shown or told about. It was in there. I setup windows and my download...

HughesNet.com - Oregon - False Advertisement

Complaint Rating: 100 % with 8 votes
HughesNet.com advertises "Unlimited Internet Access" but severely limits your access time with their "Fair Access Policy" (FAP).
HughesNet restricts your on-line time so severe it does not allow enough online time for security updates without penalties.
HughesNet locks you into a two year contract for a useless service. Extremely deceptive company.
I believe the US Federal Government should investigate HughesNet.com practices to protect future customer rip-off....

None existent technical support, the people you talk to in India don't know what they are doing . FAP is Hughes excuse for overselling there
system. They hide behind 3 legal side pages of contract agreement,
that you must agree to or you don't get to use there slow, overpriced system. But if you live in the boonies there the only game in town....

HughesNet.com - Missouri, Keytesville - stuck with overpriced service

I found a better alternative to Hughesnet which may work for some of you. I link my cell phone to my laptop and use it as a modem. it's really not much if any slower than the hughesnet service I usually get. Of course you have to have a data plan but with my carrier I get unlimited access for $25.00 a month which beats the 90 I am paying hughesnet.

As with many others I have read my service is really slow and the download limit ridiculous. According to their own charts if you use the 2nd highest download speed which I have you have approximately one hour of usage at that speed...

We got Hughesnet satellite service in July 2007 and have had problems with it right from the beginning. As the months rolled by, being a year now that we have had the service - service has gotten even worst.

We have an HN7000S with hoem service and are suppose to get 1.0 mbps service. For that rate of speed you need to be online between 3am to 6am eastern time, after that it drops to 680 kbps and slower. The worst part of all that they don't tell you about is a think called "Fare access policy" - with the service I'm paying for, you are only allow to I download...

My wife and I signed up for hughesnet service in June of '07. We live in a very rural farm area and only have 2 options for internet. Dial up or satalite. Tired of slow dial up, we signed up. We paid $400 in advance for the equipment and instalation. We were supposed to get a $100 rebate. We downloaded the rebate form. It stated that we had to wait 2 months. By then the offer was expired. Since we signed up, the service has been slower than dial up. We have complained to customer service which sends you to tech support in India. These people are barley understandable. Eventually they send a...

HughesNet.com - wrongful debit

On or around June 25, 2008 I called HughesNet Commications, and ordered service for my home. My wife and I are on a very tight and very limited income I'm on Social Security and we made an effort to set aside $69.00 for service and installation, and the lady that took my order did not tell me of the hundreds of dollars that it would cost.
So lo and behold (15) minutes after the installer left my credit card sent me a message that $509.41 had been debited from my account. I ordered the special they were advertising and it states that (0) down and we would be charged $79.00 dollars a...

HughesNet.com - Texas, Rusk, Texas - Double charging for service calls

Posted:    Jerro
Complaint Rating: 100 % with 5 votes
My satellite internet service developed a problem. After three 1 hour calls to technical support, the problem had not been resolved. Finally asked for a service technician to be dispatched to my home for repairs. Was told that this tech call would cost $125. I said send the tech on out! Tech arrived, fixed the problem and charged me $125. Next billing cycle, Hughesnet charged me an additional $125. So in reality, the service call was $250, not $125 as explained to me. Called billing and discussed the problem with them... did no good, they charge $250 per service call for whatever the problem!!!

HughesNet.com - Virginia - Hughesnet offers poor and expensive service

We recently moved to a mountainous, rural area where satellite internet was our only way to get online. I signed up with Hughesnet. Unfortunately, problems began immediately. They charged me $199.99 for standard installation of the dish, but when their contractor came out to install, he said he had to do a special install. This costs me an additional $288. So for an hour's worth of work, I spent almost $500 to have my satellite dish installed. This is in addition to the 199.99 I paid for the equipment itself. Total was $688 to get started.

When I called Hughes, they told me...

HughesNet.com - New York - You cannot manage your usage, but you will get suspended

It is now 11:30pm. The latest data showing on my HughNet customer usage page is 4pm. There is no hope of properly monitoring your downloads and yet you will be subject to very strict usage policies, one that will not even let you download a file as large as a show on Itunes or an update to your operating system. Daily monitoring of their usage page reveals, on average, a four-hour lag time. This lag time is unacceptable, especially on a tight table of 24-hour usage. Downloading statistics should be updated at least every 15 minutes.

This company behaves unfairly to customers in general....

THERE IS NO DOWNLOAD MANAGER FOR MAC / ITUNES. And there are strict usage policies that will have you on almost constant suspension if you own a MAC and sign-up with HughesNet. I am a MAC user. I was told this would be no problem when I ordered. I was concerned about of being able to download large files and questioned the salesperson. I was told could get a download manager--no problem--and download large files between 3am and 6am.

There are no download managers for Itunes, which is how Macs download music and video files. I have called tech support many times. I am regularly on...
