Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Family Dollar handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Family Dollar and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Family Dollar Cashier stole $100 from my 13 year old daughter

On April 1, my daughter purchased discounted easter decorations and some candy at Family Dollar located at 2305 Rhode Island Ave, NE Washington DC at 244pm. Her purchase came up to $10.07. The cashier a Hispanic female told my daughter she did not have change for $100 bill. My daughter then told her two brothers to gave her their money so that she could purchase the decorations. My daughter then gave the cashier, one $5 dollar bill, $6 one dollar bills and one $100bill. Rather than return the $100 bill to my daughter, the cashier took it and gave my daughter change for $11.00. Once my daughter realized that she had given her $100 bill to the cashier, she asked her for it back. The cashier told her she did not have it. My daughter then called me and I asked to speak to the manager. The manager a thin black man with dreads/braids, could be heard cursing and saying "That [censored] don't need to talk to me. I aint got a [censored] to do wit dat." He repeated obscenities like that. I told my daughter to wait there, that I am calling the police. Within 5 minutes, I was at the store. An elderly/middle aged black man came to me and said he was reviewing the cameras. He concluded that no customer at the store could be seen picking up the money. I knew that as the cashier had taken it. However, by the time I got to the store, the cashier had hurriedly left the scene of the crime. I called the police and the police told me that the cashier had left. I told him I would call the store at the end of the day to see if the money was placed in the cash register. This is not the first time that this particular cashier was involved in missing money. A couple months ago, she attempted to steal a $50 bill from me under similar circumstances, but I insisted that she give me my money back and then she pretended that she saw it on the counter in front of her. This cashier and her manager should both be terminated. The cashier is a thief as she stole my daughter's money and the manager is highly unprofessional to be using obscenities in front of children. I will pursue this to the highest degree. I want my $100 returned, and I want the cashier fired and the manager retrained at the least.

Claimed loss: $100

Desired outcome: I want my $100 returned, and I want the cashier fired and the manager retrained at the least.

Family Dollar Discrimination

I was told by an employee that her boss started I couldn't be in their store. I was not given a reason, and I've never had any issues shopping here in the past. I was humiliated and for what reason I dont know. I have never stolen, or had any disagreements with any staff or fellow customers and I've purchased several times from this store. I feel I was discriminated for what reason I don't know. It's the family dollar in Brawley 1400 is the address. I arrived at around 6 pm, was shopping in the make up, and had three items in my hand for purchase when a young female employee with glasses and in uniform approached me and made the aforementioned stamens. When I asked why, she shrugged her shoulders and started she didn't k kw, that her boss just said that . She stated that she hadn't been there and didn't know. There were several other customers shopping at the time, and I was extremely humiliated, and really wanted to cry. I stated that I have never done anyhghinv to the store to merit this treatment, and I placed the items on the shelf and walked out. I am mortified at the complete33 and utter disrespect and incompetence of the boss who sent someone to kick me out without any reason. I have spent a good amount of money at . Your stores Ober the past few years and this is the treatment I received. Ridiculous and I have half a mind to sue. I hope the matter has a resolution that prevents other customers being humiliated and treated so disrespecting. Today is the 3rd of April 2024 and it's is now 626pm

Claimed loss: I was unable to purchase what I came to buy which was a lipstick, a lipliner, and eyelashes

Desired outcome: I would like to see the "BOSS " that did this to me terminated, or written up at the very least. I would appreciate the items

Family Dollar Mixed Experiences at Family Dollar

As someone who values convenience and affordability, I recently explored Family Dollar for my household needs. The store offers a wide range of products, from groceries to personal care items, at budget-friendly prices. However, my experience was mixed. While I appreciated the variety and value, I encountered some challenges. The customer service was inconsistent, with reports of rude behavior and unhelpful staff. Some customers even faced difficulties with returns and exchanges, impacting their overall satisfaction. Despite these issues, there were positive mentions of helpful employees and well-organized stores. It seems that Family Dollar has room for improvement in ensuring a positive shopping experience for all customers.

Family Dollar My trip to Family Dollar On Quaker Rd, Queensbury, NY was GREAT!

I went to Family Dollar on Quaker Road, Queensbury, NY on June 30th 2017... what a great atmosphere in that store. The manager is sooooo friendly and congenial. Greeted me with a "hello how are you today... is there anything I can help you with. " The store is clean and neat... just amazing. I have been in this store a couple of years ago and swore I would never go back but on June 30th I was looking for decorations for a party and did wonder into the store and ami glad I did. I was greeted, offered assistance, and I felt important to this Family Dollar. I will be returning to this store each week to shop for goods that I need as I looked through the store and saw many brand names of items that I use and combined with the friendlyness that I received this store will be a main stop for me on shopping days.

Family Dollar Poor, poor, poor and poor customer service

A few individuals were waiting outside the family dollar store at 195 mclean avenue in yonkers, ny. The website states that it will open at 8am. Many parents just dropped off their children at 815am at the school across the street from ths family dollar store. There were staff inside the family dollar store near the register but not one acknowledging the individuals waiting outside. Take note that there are various glass windows and yiu can see that there are people waiting outside. A gentleman waiting outside knocked in the window only to ask if they will be open today. One of the staff members literally screamed at him through the glass. He backed away into his car saying sorry. Earlier, he told the rest of us that he simply wanted to purchase pet food for his dog. I stayed near the door hoping to make eye contact with the store manager which I did. But not before getting a mean look from the screamer lady. I have spoken to the manager before and he was kind. However, he is meek and literally stood there as the screamer lady screamed at a potential customer this morning. Anyway, he came to the door and opened it. I asked him that I simply wanted to know if this location was going to be open at all today OR if it will stay closed for today. He told me that as of 8am that morning, they were having an "event" and were not going to open probably until after 12noon. By this time, almost all the individuals have walked away, it was almost 9am and it is freezing outside. To have waited almost an hour outside, our hands were literally numb. He was ever so kind. I did suggest that a sign, big and legible, should be put on the doorways, as there are two doorways. Also that the screamer be put in the back to do some work as she clearly can not work with people. This location gets ZERO stars for customer service. I came in for halloween as well with some kids to ask for candies with their candy bags. An employee said very rudely, "We dont do that here!". I stepped up to her and informed her that she didnt have to be so rude about it and could have simply told the kids that but in a nicer way. I onky come in to this location for whatever I REALLY need and leave out as soon as I can. I rarely, rarely go there. It is awful due to the customer service of the employees.

Family Dollar Low level Customer Service

In 2022 the day before Easter my husband and I decided to stop at this location to get some items I needed to make my own Easter baskets. Was able to find some items cause the store is so unorganized. We were 3rd in line. No other employees in site and the employee called for assistance due to a declined transaction. An employee finally showed up to a empty register and asked if we was all set. I was unaware my husband told the 2 people behind us to go before us because he was being curtious cause we have 30 items. So I look over at him and say to my husband why peoe behind us going before us we been standing here before the line piled up. My husband told me what he did I said ok and turned ahead to stay in the line with the declined transaction. Tell me why the rude ratchet employee started yelling about she asked if we was all set and just yelling. Mind you I already knew she was a loud mouth cause exactly how she showed her $#*! is exactly what she looks like physically. Started saying how she don't give a $#*! about her job it's so many jobs and how I don't know who the $#*! she is. At this point from the time she opened her mouth I didn't even respond with words I said " ahhhlt ahhllttt ahhllttt ahhllttt. " She was livid talking about Im disrespecting her and she lied to the so called supervisor and said I was complaining about the line when I never complained I asked my husband a question. He answered me and isaid ok and turned around until this raging bull with a time ticking bomb started her show. I even told her she should have more self control of her emotions because its alot of people in line and she started saying how she dgaf. Whole time NOBODY was even speaking to her from jump. Covid cases on the rise so I keep a mask on she standing here with no mask trynna fight and the other employees were insigating a fight. This got to he the LBGTQ location there was 3 people with brush cuts and I ain't know if I had to address with u sir or mam. The supervisor didn't even ask the customer what happened she/he just sided with the lying $#*! employee. Anyways whole time I'm standing there with a smile in disbelief, no fear in my heart. I was relaxed waiting on her to run up and I was prepared to put the technics I've learned into place. Luckily she was all bark with no bite cause today I wouldn't be posting this I probably would have been in Monroe County jail cause I already had a store rag tail come in my hand ready to gouge her eye out when she attacked. She would have been trynna pick up her eyeball off the ground and I would have been in jail. Thank God for self control and protection cause she really tried to take me to a point of no return. This is the worst store in Monroe County and this isn't the first incident. So much happens a cops killed a man in there. Fiend just stand outside and beg. It's really terrible do not go to 715 West Main unless you Ready to risk it all. Employees don't care about the job or the customer service no nothing they work here to survive. UberEats pays my husband over 100 $ for three hours if delivering food. If people don't like thier job. Just quit and do something you love to do. It's 2022 so many options available than to work at a place you hate to work at. My husband and I just walked away and left with no items. It wasn't worth the wait or the experience.

Family Dollar Dont work here

I was an assistant manager at the Big Timber MT store. When i applied on indeed for the position of cashier it advertised $17.00 per hour which i never seen. It was like pulling teeth and i was made to take the assistant manager bump just to get $12.50 was there for a year and an employee mentioned to our manager about how anyone on shift had access to a till signed in someone elses numbers. When the employee says to the boss "what if someine gets in brandons till. Then brandons till ends up short." And was told "thats on him." So i went higher up the chain to resolve the issue. Of everyone on shift (not only managers) being able to access my till. I had left for a short while for a job where i the bump was closer to the $17 i originally applied for. Less than 24 hours after my last day i heard this was said "I hope brandon plans on bringing his store keys back so we dont have to go the legal route to get it back." Less than 24 hrs. The district manager had said she kept my position for me. This was cool because i ended up going back. To that position with the same 12.50 pay. A lady in town had threatened my life and when she came into the store. I refused to serve her and told her to leave and come back when i wasnt working. Then I went to the back room to get more product to shelve. The lady came back into the store entering the employee only area asked why. I said you know why. She gave me the finger and mouthed "$#*! you to me." Being quiet and subtle so the phone she had started recording me on didnt catch her voice. Although the camera would have caught her giving me the finger. I proudly said out loud to make sure this lady heard me say "$#*! you too" so after this the lady gets ahold of corporate sent the recording of me saying "$#*! you too." Along with a text sent to the lady's daughter. In the text i had said they knew why i told her (did not ask her) To leave. Which i would happily and proudly do again and again. With my finger held in her direction. My manager did have my back knowing the things i had been going through but was told that i had to serve them if they came in. Unless i got a restraining order. This lady had tried getting my schedule from another employee. So she could come in when i was on shift. Well she did come in again. And i made sure to serve anyone who was in line ahead of her. Then i walked out and DID NOT serve her. I had gotten ahold of another ASM and they came down and finished my shift. I was told the lady was gone before they made it to the store. Didnt come back. Because she was specifically coming in when I was there. The fact that i had my life threatened. Or how i said she could come back when i wasnt on shift was never mentioned in any way. And i was terminated for walking out. Which okay i walked out. Heres why i decided to post this. I heard the main store managers across the state were going to be made to clock in to record the time when they were in store working (48 hours a week REQUIRED for the managers.) And my manager walked out. The manager is working there still. Even though they walked out. I am pointing out facts. Not hating on the boss i had. The corporate chicken lollipops above my boss and above her boss made the final decisions. To have me terminated for refusing to serve someone who threatened my life. Because of walking out they just have double standards. And care about 1 person giving them $20 then the well being of an employee. (If i am wrong than my boss would have been fired for walking out as well)

Family Dollar Threat of calling law enforcement on senior citizen.

On march 15, 2024 at approx. 10:30am I, Lillie craig entered the store. Be prepared to go to work. I usually complain about having to move boxes or carts to continue down the isle and do not forget the person stocking the freezer or shelfs, person may be on a ladder. I always complain because I have to work to spend my money. At this time navigate myself around three people and boxes. .No such thing as my space. Ms. Barbara said to me she apologizes, that the truck came in this morning and she was so tired. Ms Barbara and I went back and forth. I said it is always this way, she said no. Finally she said I will call the police and leave my store. I picked up paper towels, she stated you will not be able to buy. 0,k. The police should not be called for verbally voicing my opinion. I am 73 years of age with (27) yrs of working state prisons, been in same location (20) yrs, longer than the store has existed I think.

Claimed loss: I HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, DO NOT KNOW WHERE IT WENT THEN BUT I THINK SHE BECAME UPSET WHEN I SUGGESTED HER BEING SO TIRED TO QUIT. HAVE CAN OF SPRAY STARCH TO RETURN, DO I DARE?

I went to my local Family Dollar in Marietta, OK I saw the lady employee standing outside smoking with another person, I went in and got my product, waited at the register for approximately 5 minutes then went to the door to leave I said "guess I'll have to go to the other one" and the lady employee said " Ok that is fine just leave". She also said " I am quitting anyways".

Desired outcome: This store has had employees for quite sometime now that are rude and not caring. We would like to see this store back in shape and more productive.

Family Dollar Customer service on the manager on duty/ prices

I went in to get a red bull and lollipops. I was looking for a certain flavor which wasn't in the coolers, they were on the aisle. When I saw that the price was 3 for 6, I got 3. When the associate rung up the red bulls that wasn't ringing up correctly, so I told her were the price was located, she said I need to get mix flavors to get it for that price. I did it but they still weren't ringing up correctly and she was getting really rude. I stated that they hire idiots because of how she was trying to explain instead of getting a manager. When I asked for a manager, she said she was the manager and for me to leave the store because she wasn't going to ring up what I asked her for. She then starts to get loud and said that if I didn't leave the store, she was going to call the police on me, and I said go ahead and call them. As she was calling the police she went to the back and got 2 other women that was in the store. They both went to the aisle where I got the red bulls and said that it's not your fault the prices were in the wrong place. We proceeded to go to the register and the associate that told me to leave asked are you going to check her out after I told her that she wasn't getting checked out. She then stated I'm going to take a break because she was pissed that the other lady was ringing me up. So, it didn't stop there because of the other associate leaving getting upset caused the lady to not check me out ither and I said I will be contacting corporate office. I really need someone to call me about this issue. By the way I'm new to this area. That was a first time. I'm in management and customers aren't supposed to get treated like this. It was very inappropriate, and I was embarrassing because the police came up there and spoke with me and they both said that this is ridiculous and a waste of time, I didn't do anything wrong, and I would really appreciate if someone contacted me at you earliest convivence. I gave the time and date so you can the pull video.

My name is Mrs., Edwards and this happened 3/10/2024 between 11:30 am. I can be reached at [protected]@gmail.com

Claimed loss: This situation had me to go to another store for the same products. It was out of my way.

Desired outcome: Can you please have your associates to take customer service training. Also, I would like to get the items that I came in there for. I can pay for them.

Family Dollar Discriminated by rude manager

Last night (2/27/2024) my bf and I went to our local family dollar (322 Valley St Providence, RI 02909) to return a couple items we weren’t happy with(2 shower curtains, and another miscellaneous item) with a receipt. The gentleman that was helping us called over the manager(Thala). This woman who approached looked at my boyfriend and I and then proceeded to speak only Spanish to the young man… and would not even say a word to either of us. They proceeded to speak only Spanish and then she walked away. I began to get aggravated at the offensive and rude behavior of the manager, so I proceeded to ask the young man and the manager who refused to speak to us by saying (can we get our money back now please) the manager then responded with no we cannot accept this item back because it has been opened.

Per company policy of family dollar, “ Family Dollar Brands Guarantee: If you are not 100% satisfied with any Family Dollar brand product, simply return it within 30 days to any of our stores with a receipt for an exchange or full refund.”

This manager said this while smirking because she clearly was I was getting upset. What she didn’t know, while she was speaking to the young man in Spanish regarding the “[censored]s” as she called us…. My boyfriend speaks Spanish fluently…. And understood everything they were saying about us. You have to love the idiocy of some people.

After this incident, even though this store is convenient to go to, has lost a customer due to the ignorance of this one manager.

Family Dollar Customer safety

I spend about $500/mo at this store as it is located near my neighborhood. I'm 62 and a retired executive. The store workers here do not care about elders safety! I really don't even think they care about themselves as the consistently demonstrated subsistence modum of behavioral standards / etiquette are highly lacking. I can truthfully say this because several times I've complained about drugged out and up disrespectful aggressive customers. The managers on duty do nothing. I spoke directly to this a few minutes ago and this kid at the register simply turns into a total [censored] show. I REFUSE will not return to this location for even a roll of toilet paper and posting this same review on the neighbor site. It's either their drug dealers or their buddies but it certainly isn't the money represented to pay their salaries.
