You can’t pull off a great Halloween costume without fab makeup and hair! So whether you choose to go vampy route, fairy, animal or as your favorite celeb, the devil is in the details. Here are some ideas to make your costume a surefire hit.
Hair
This one is almost a no brainer. If you want to disguise yourself for any reason, changing your hair is an obvious first step. That’s where wigs come in!! For Halloween you can find so many off beat wigs to take your character to the next level. Try a blonde Afro and spray paint it red to pull off a clown costume. Get a curly long wig in a different color than your own and tease it so it looks crazy to top off a vampire or bride of Frankenstein look. Get a spiky wig to pull off a punk rock look. Get a long straight dark wig to do Cher or a witch and dress in long black dress, fishnet stockings and boots.
The point is, why use your own hair when you can buy a wig to really create a credible look. According to Heidi Klum, Diva of the Halloween costume; ‘It's good to invest in one amazing element of your costume. Wigs, especially, make a difference!’ The editors at RealBeauty.com agree: “Lady Gaga's style changes so much, you'll have tons of ideas to choose from if you want to channel this pop star. Just pick up a platinum blonde bob and go crazy.”
Makeup
This can be so much fun!! The sky is the limit. Want to look like scary zilla? Paint your face white and then smudge a lot of black liner and shadow under your eyes. Then do black lips and use face paint to fake trickling blood down your chin. Want to go as some kind of cat? Over do a smoky cat eye, get long fake eyelashes and try red lips and fake fangs. Paint on whiskers with black eyeliner. For a fairy or angel look, add glitter and sparkles around the eyes to soft pretty makeup. For a clown, draw circles and stars or hearts on your face with face paint or lipstick. Geisha inspired? White face and red lipstick in the middle of the lips and wicked eyeliner winged out on top of the eyes.
Accessories
You must pull out all the accessory stops. Gloves, Hats, sunglasses, goofy glasses, trench coat, fake nails, jewelry—for Halloween accessories are essentially your props. A witch needs a hat and broom. A vampire needs teeth (and blood). A fairy/angel needs wings, a clown needs a nose and big shoes—you get the picture.
For a more realistic costume an easy route is to copy your favorite celeb look. Realbeauty.com highlights Posh Pixie Glam: ‘Why not copy Victoria Beckham's signature pixie look with nude lips and smoky eyes? With her sleek pixie cut, nude lips, and vampy smoky eyes, this one's a definite Halloween do. Good luck finding a guy who looks like David Beckham, and remember: Don't smile for any photos.’
